No offense to the goodly Christian part of Skillets audience but maybe the real reason Skillet completely dropped thier old sound was because they sound more like wanting to get dommed by Jesus then worshipping him in the more traditional sense

WORLDWIDE JESUS DOMINATION indeed...

Skillet are such a case study in successfully alienating your mainstream audience that it's almost impressive. It's not even like Trapt where they only had one song anyone ever gave a shit about, they were legitimately popular for a while. But nah John Cooper had a crisis so now it's time to work that conservative outrage grift

“Why do you like Christian Rock? Christian Music is supposed to be joyous, that sounds so painful!”
Well, sometimes not all music is joyous. Yes, it’s wonderful to celebrate Jesus, of course, but sometimes people need him in pain too. If a non-religious person comes to a concert and hears “Jesus is wonderful!” They might not be convinced. But if they hear “Listen, I know life’s hard, and you are upset and you feel like a monster and you’re in the panic room, but there’s hope.” That might be enough to change their eternity.
When I went to see Disciple in Murphy, there were about 60-70 people there, and 12 accepted Jesus. While that might not seem like much, that’s 12 people who had their lives saved and the place they go when they die is looking up. While acts like TobyMac and For King and Country are absolutely incredible, they celebrate Jesus in every way. But at Skillet and Disciple shows, they have several teens come up to them saying “Your music saved my life.” While Toby and Joel and Luke are incredible, they can’t reach people the way Christian Rock can. The fact that these singers use a genre filled with agony and songs about death to talk about Jesus is truly something amazing.
I pray and hope that I get to be apart of this industry one day. I’m fired up about Jesus, and it’s such a beautiful and powerful thing that not only does music bring people together, and does music bring people to God, but it saves people’s lives and changes their eternity.
Plus, these performers are CRAZY talented. They have energy, amazing voices with crazy ranges, and can shred guitars and rock the drums like nothing I’ve ever seen.
So that’s why I like Christian Rock. Not just because it’s good. But because it’s freaking powerful.

Saw Skillet yesterday and it was amazing! They're one of my absolute favorite rock bands. Jen Ledger was one of the reasons that I started drumming, she's one of my biggest inspirations. So it was crazy to see her in person! Everyone in the band are amazing though! It's on another level seeing them live.

Am curious what got you into rock music e.g. Skillet, Citizen Soldier, Red? :>
This is gonna be a long one⬇
I grew up with my parents being very strict about what music I was allowed listen to, aka anything that they didn't like or that was sung by anyone they didn't like. We only every listened to one or sometimes two radio station in the car and that was it, and then one day years and years ago "Fire and Fury" by Skillet came on the radio and LOVED IT! It was completely different than what I always listened to and after that I listened to pretty much every Skillet song that I could find on YouTube. I found out about Red from looking at bands similar to Skillet and after a few songs (mostly from the Beauty and Rage album) I was instantly hooked. Funnily enough, I actually found out about Citizen Soldier a few years ago after looking at a list of Ninjago character playlists. The first Citizen Soldier song that I ever listened to was Weight of the World (from the Lloyd playlist)
Thank you so much for the ask! So it's so long winded!!
Here are the songs I mentioned if anyone is interested⬇
This is my favorite from the album⬇

"Sometimes I don't wanna be better
Sometimes I can't be put back together
Иногда я не хочу становиться лучше,
Иногда я не могу становиться самим собой..."

"I want someone to hurt
Like the way I hurt
It's sick but it makes me
Feel better
Я хочу, чтобы кому-то стало
Так же больно, как мне.
Безумно, но от этого
Мне становится легче"

Biggest Jesus W at the Skillet concert: All of those 'have plausible deniability as secular love songs' tracks from the Warrior Cats AMVs you watched when you were 13 still unironically go hard
Biggest Jesus L: John Cooper capping off a sermon against divisiveness by going full CHUD about #CancelCulture and the right to own your children. As he's doing this the sweet skunky odor of The Herb wafts over me from someone secretly lighting up nearby. Quite a nuanced emotion was captured in that moment. Pure performance art.

and then I drop the news that Skillet is a Christian Band….

was looking up news about Roe v wade, because I guess I still can't believe that it's actualy been overturned, and among the more recent news articles was about the rock band Skillet celebrating the reversal of the decision.
So anyway, FUCK Skillet, going to delete all their songs and unlike all their content on my Spotify. John Cooper, you can eat shit <3
Yes, yes, I knew they were Christian, so it's not exactly SHOCKING that they fall in line with these beliefs. But I had hoped that perhaps, just MAYBE, they weren't as fucking stupid as the vast majority of their cult is.
I can't believe that influencers can actively celebrate the fucking loss of human rights. What a sack of subhuman FILTH.

"Drifting beneath the horizon
Body is weak but I'm trying
To make it to shore, but I'm falling short
I need You more
Wave after wave, I've been sinking
So unto Your promise I'm clinging
You say that I'm strong, to You I belong
Keep holding on
You are my anchor"
