I know you enjoyed the game, so I wanted to ask here: which BG3 companions would have which cats as their pets?

We're cooking with gas and putting two hyperfixations into the large hadron collider, eh?

Okay, I can tell you right now that I have several off the top of my head, not only in that would have them as "pets" (or to the extent that Halsin would consider an animal a "pet" which is more of a companion) but that they align from a character personality standpoint:

Astarion - Black and White Alonzo (Vain with courage issues) and - stay with me - The Rum Tum Tugger. Little chaotic shit with a showboat streak who holds a grudge with underlying emotional depth? Astarion. Tugger.

Lae'zel - If she could be persuaded into having a pet, I just can't help but see her with the haughty, disdainful and lonely Cassandra.

Wyll - Munkustrap and Victoria (The protector, the courageous and the loving and the romantic little princess)

Shadowheart - Demeter and Bombalurina (Both gals are both sides of Shadowheart's personality and I feel like she'd get on well with the two of them). She's also a potential Jemima weird girl.

Karlach - I can see Karlach with any of the kittens or adolescents tbh, but Tumblebrutus/Bill Bailey and Etcetera are coming to the forefront of my mind.

Gale - you think I'm going to say Magical Mr. Mistoffelees or maybe Coricopat and Tantomile (though I can absolutely see those), but it's obviously Jennyanydots and/or Jellylorum. Jenny and Jelly are essentially Tara. It makes the most sense. I would even throw Skimbleshanks in there for good measure. Gale is a cat dad - he can have 3+ as a treat.

Minthara - Grizabella (Proud to a fault and indomitable? Minthara. Hurt? Also Minthara. This one just makes a lot of sense to me, particularly if you trace who Grizabella used to be along with who Minthara used to be pre-tadpole and brainwashing.)

Halsin - Deuteronomy (Wise, loving and a commanding presence, Old Deuteronomy belongs to no one and is beloved by all - generally even tempered and protective. Oldest cat with dad lore. He also gets kidnapped, waxes the occasional poetic, and canonically *redacted*)

Why I like them:

He's Skimbleshanks! The Cat of the Railway Train! He jumps and dances and is everyone's favorite Train Dad and he's gentle and protective and fierce when he needs to be. But I think what I love most about Skimble is how much the other cats clearly adore him. Skimble's song is for Every Single Cat! Even Deuteronomy gets in the lineup! And at the end the cats literally won't let him go without a reprise.

Why I don’t: I do not see how it is possible to not like Skimbleshanks

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Skimble's song, obviously 😌.

Favorite season/movie: I'm going to interject favorite production here? I haven't seen that many but Props to Gerben Skimble for being the most 👀😳 and Tommie being the fussiest of Skimbles in Vienna. Hayden Baum for broadest smile. Gavin for being the Tiniest as well as exceptionally feline. Geoffrey Garret for being the Softest in his interaction with the kittens.

Favorite line: "It was very quiet when they found their little den with their names written up on the door" WOO WOO

Favorite outfit: His Bell is very important!

OTP: I don't really have one but I do have a very soft spot for putting him with Jenny mostly because they are so comfortable together. Also some people have written unbearably adorable fic about them together 😌

Brotp: Don't really have one? Skimble is friends with Everyone!

Head Canon: Skimble regularly finds kittens and lost cats as part of his job.

Also That train absolutely will not run without him. Call it superstition or loyalty but everyone knows that the train can't start until Skimble is at the helm.

Unpopular opinion: Look I wasn't sure about the Skimbletable until I saw Gerben Grimmius in Vienna. And that cat is intense. That pair needs help and Skimble is there to provide it 😌

A wish: My general wish to the universe is that they bring Vienna Cats BACK

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I suppose that ALW would do something as horrible to Skimbleshanks as he did to P&P and Growltiger 😩

I was wondering if you would share your favorite background moment from the movie that you think I should watch for, and any head canon you associate with it? Just if you feel like it, no pressure!

And ügh I don't even know where to begin; Cats in general lives off its background moments, especially since almost all of the cats are efficiently ensemble characters! I will try and list some, anyway. :)

Firstly: basically all of Pekes and Pollicles. Here a few hand-picked screenshots:

(This isn't even a background moment, but I LOVE how all the cats have their "default stance". Skimbleshanks with his orderly folded paws, Mistoffelees with his performative tendu, Cassandra with her aloof cross-legged position, Munkustrap with his legs 509403 meters apart... we love to see it)

Also, always keep your eyes on Pouncival in the background, because the editing of the 98 movie is.. questionable at many parts, which causes him to teleport around quite a lot XD

Also worth staring at a look: the Bombademestrap action on the tire during Mr. Mistoffelees.

Demeter is surrounded by love and so, so happy ;U; ♥♥♥ Bombalurina is trying to set up a world record in smiling and she's succeeding. Munkustrap is trying very hard to catch the sparkles.

All of the Mr. Mistoffelees background action is extremely fun to look at, tbh.

im a huge cats the musical and ds9 fan please tell me everything about the AU

hehehe thank u for enabling me I will do so ! (pls bear in mind that in building this around elecetera I have largely disregarded the canon relationships in ds9 simply because I think it is more fun that way and also I LOVE to talk so this is so god damn long)

this started with the thought that electra and etcetera doing the nojay consortium plot would be unbearably cute, so of course Etcetera is cast as Nog (excitable accidental mischief maker who grows into a brave little champ and joins starfleet!) and Electra is cast as Jake (still silly but much more levelheaded/quieter than her counterpart, a worrier, and grows into a writer! a little reference to my own hc of electra as a library cat).

"why would pollicles steal your homework?" "[head tilt] because they don't have ethics?" PRECIOUS

so then building out from there you get Bombalurina as Benjamin (which I think is REALLY cool also visually I think she suits that part and I think it's such a cool thought to cast her as captain and emissary over anyone else. I love her I'm gay). and then obviously you need Demeter as Kasidy (the obvious choice for dem would be kira but I think this is much more fun for her. hot and in charge cargo ship captain! (and of course this makes her Bomba's gf :3 and Jemima their as-yet-unborn baby who I'm not technically meant to know about cause I haven't finished ds9 yet but hey) aslo. just really super hot. I'm gay. got stuck thinking about int tour dem in kasidy's boiler suit lookin outfits and ceased functioning.). as I mentioned I also cast Munkustrap as Jennifer just cause u know. makes sense. and obvs Deuteronomy as Joseph Sisko! (honestly my favourite characterisation of deut always has that little flavour of grandpa sisko I love him)

then on Etcetera!Nog's side of this family tree we have Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer taking over hybridised roles of Quark and Rom! (neither of them are her parents they're her older siblings/cousins/idk but she's theirs to raise. I've kind of been mixing and matching what narrative roles each of them take so it's sort of a. they run the bar together, jerrie is the one to become an engineer, teazer is the one to date the Leeta, they take bits and pieces of each of the ferengis plots u kno). speaking of, Victoria is cast as Leeta (because victeazer 4eva but also beautiful but kind and deceptively intelligent is literally her. also that shot of cet and vic hugging from 98 but it's rom/leeta stepmom moment Yes). also I love Ishka and originally I cast Jenny as her because YES but now that role goes to Skimbleshanks just for the utter nonsense! (I know moogie's plot is mostly about stuff that can't be reflected to skimble but I'm again thinking more of the relationship to etcetera here and I think this gives the best dynamic! also teazer as the mommas boy and jerrie with the rough relationship Yeah)

this is getting ridiculously long so I'll try to be more brief with the rest! Tugger as Kira (bomba's right hand man!), Mistoffelees as Jadzia (bestie!), Cassandra as Julian (Electra and Cass's roadtrips to disaster!), Asparagus as Worf (look at me and tell me that humour/grumpiness isn't familiar), Alonzo as Odo (elecetera hijinks to cause him to sigh grumpily as Much as possible), Jennyanydots as Miles O'Brien (this one feels kind of out of left field but 1. I love her as cettie's mentor and 2. I would LOVE to see her in the kind of irritated distress obrien lives in. I adore her let me put her in the torture machine just a little), and of couuuuurse Jellylorum as Keiko! (mentor to electra! deeply sweet and caring but also strict and kind and oooooh!), which means Tumble and Pouncival fall into Molly and Kirayoshi's places (makes them even littler than elecetera as revenge for [thing productions do that irritates me that I won't get into here cause we're having fun]), Tantomile and Coricopat as Morn (but instead of silence to the viewers and annoying chatter offscreen it's eerie staring to the viewers and referenced ominious statements they make offscreen. this is deeply funny to me), then Macavity as Dukat obviously (boos and hisses), Grizabella as Lwaxana (beloved), finally Plato as Alexander (my favourite star trek character the ds9 writers Don't understand him like I understand him but this makes so much sense), and Bustopher as the klingon chef!!!!!

there's lots of background moments and i have made gifs of some of them, but some of my favourites are probably Pouncival doing a backflip at the start of Tugger's song (not really a headcanon to it, i just think it’s fun), Alonzo and Jemima during the song of the jellicles (led me to believe they are some sort of friends), everyone during the mating dance (who the couples are, or friends/families), Munkustrap with kittens during the jellicle ball, pretty much all the cats in the background during most of the songs - there's always something going on (Tugger and Cass + Jellylorum and Exotica during Skimbleshanks song for example). and ofc Pouncival during pekes & pollicles. there are probably a lot more that i've forgotten, it’s been a while since i watched 1998, but here are some atleast : )

I should explain in more depth of my head canons for Cats. I’m what you would call more of a multi-verse shipper. I have like, a basis, for them, and I create little changes of how they would go. It’s the reason why I’m so okay with different head canons different people have. I see the different head canons and I create stories using them in my mind. It’s the same with books, actual books like the Dragonriders of Pern. I read them and I can see them play out in my mind. It’s rare to occasionally I will find a story that I try to read and I cannot because the contents I don’t like and don’t enjoy. I can and will put down because no, I don’t like how it’s going. This is why I like Tuggoffeles in certain ways because it has to fit into how I see the characters, especially if Bombalurina is painted as the enemy. I’ve read some of these and I have put them down because I don’t like how they are going. They are hard to swallow. Yes, I have different versions of how each cat has a relationship with each other. Yes, I have AUs of my AUs. Will I ever write them? No. Only one-shots and short chaptered stories I can deal with because I struggle to put words together in a meaningful way. In school, English class was my most stressful and hard class. I cannot put what I see in my head into words occasionally. It takes me a while to put the words into a meaningful way.

For example of one of my head canons, I have Bombalurina as the granddaughter of Gus the Theater Cat because I have it as she inherited his ability to draw attention to herself, focused on her eyes. As cats, Gus sees details, of magic, through illusions, and little quirks that make him such a successful actor. Bomba inherited a stronger version of his magic eyes. Thus, she can see through most, if not all, of Macavity. She recognizes that he’s physically hot, but even she can see that he’s distrustful. She, and Demeter, are the most like Grizabella, because of her ability to draw attention to herself and her magic eyes. This is a plot point why in my AUs that Macavity wanted to have both Bombalurina and Demeter. They have the spark of magic that can allow them to have the heirs to Old Deuteronomy. Yes, she does have issues with Grizabella. She’s compared to her a lot, and it made her focus on not being like her.

The grandfather-granddaughter relationship between Gus the Theater Cat and Bombalurina is one of my solid head canons. How it is actually up to interpretation depending on what I want from these AU stories. In one such AU as an example, Bombalurina is the daughter of the poly-relationship of Jellylorum, Asparagus Jr, Skimbleshanks, and Jennyanydots (two of them are her bio-parents. I can expand on this later). There are two interpretations with this, one where Demeter is her sister, one where she is not, thus allowing Demelurina ship to happen with Bombatuggoffeles (with both AUs). Both of these are great interpretations with story within them, playing off of the different relationships that are present in multiple sources.

Another example that I don’t see often (or I’m not looking in the right place, this is always a possibility) is the relationship between Bombalurina and Plato. No, I’m not talking about a romantic relationship, I don’t see it. I’m talking either a friendly or familial relationship. Platoria is still main. I can go in depth on this, though not for now. I look at fanfiction and other people’s head canons, and I get inspired.

I’m willing to talk about more of these AUs in detail some other time, but I felt like I should explain more in depth of my Cats head canons.

Do you have any good headcanons for good ol Skimbleshanks?

I have a few one of which I am going to put in one of my stories (or have been thinking about very much to put in said story)

1. Skimbleshanks is the one almost everyone goes for advice. It doesn’t matter if it’s for relationships or how to do solve a problem, everyone will ask him how to fix it. Especially with the younger kits (and his own), he takes his time to be patient and listen to their problems. I mean, I can see Tugger and Munkustrap having sibling problems and both of them ask Skimble for advice since they respect him. And Skimble tells them to look at it from each other’s perspective which helps them a lot.

2. Skimble is very punctual and gets really irritated when he is late. Even more so, he has a pocket watch that was given to him by a mentor or Jenny because they know how punctual he likes to be. I would also say he is one of the few Jellicles who can tell time on a ‘human’ clock since his job on the train needs him to know what time it is. 

3.He is the father of Mungo and Teazer. This is one of the many hcs I have for Rumple and Teazer. I don’t really have much to add to this one since it’s pretty common.

4. Skimble is a family man. I used this hc in one of my holiday fics in December 2020. So this can be applied to both Skimble as a cat and a human. Skimble is the type of man who loves his family no matter what. When he travels, he makes sure to pick up trinkets that he knows his family would love. He even tries to come home during the holidays and birthdays but there’s no guarantee so he’ll make it. When he can’t come home, Skimble sends a huge package with a card. 

5. The kittens always get excited when Skimbleshanks comes to the Junkyard. Even though they go to Gus for fictional stories, they go to Skimble for his adventures from the train. That’s how they know all the words of his song.

To me, Cats the musical is something wholesome, whimsical and warm. It cheers me up when I’m down. I don’t like the cult theories or reviews that deem the whole musical creepy or weird or pointless.

Cats sing, cats dance, cats tell about themselves and ponder about the meaning of happiness. One cat finds happiness at the end. That’s enough for me.

in your headcanon who are/were protectors?

Using only canon and canon adjacent characters:

"Retired" Protectors:

Old Deuteronomy (though that was many *many* years ago), Skimbleshanks, & Jennyanydots. There have been many others, but these are the ones still around.

Ex-Protectors:

Macavity (He wasn't very good with the compassion or actually caring part of this role, the "why we do this" part, he just liked to fight and show off. So while he was a *good* protector, he wasn't a good *protector* you know what I mean? Tugger has the opposite problem - he has the protective nature down pat, he just doesn't have the stomach for the other part of it. He's excellent in an information pinch, though)

Current Protectors:

Munkustrap (the leader), Alonzo (His "unofficial official" second in command), Bombalurina (Strategist), Cassandra (Who's not only surprisingly protective but an excellent intelligence agent), Socrates (Razor sharp tactitan), & Murad (He is literally always watching things from above, so I like to think he's a scout - very small and very fast)

Bonus:

"Rumpus" (Whichever name you'd like to use for this character - I'm workshopping names in my head. Speaking specifically about the Japanese character of the ensemble identity of the Rumpus cat. What you would deem equivalent to b&w Alonzo) and "Adult Jemima" (Or whichever name you'd like to use for her - again from Japan and names are being workshopped- she's on the brink of retirement but she will cut a bitch with no hesitation)

Protectors in Training:

Plato (And he's trying so *so* hard to be good at it), & George.

Cats Kilworth au head canons.

eSo if you don’t know, the Kilworth 2019 production of cats was very ww2 based. The set an all the costumes reflected that. I strongly recommend looking the designs up because they’re really cool. (and they inspired theses soo) -Jennyanydots was a teacher once upon a time. When the war started up she joined the army as a nurse. While on active duty she met Skimbleshanks who had left his job as a conductor to join the army as well. The two fell in love and when they left the army got married. -Old Deuteronomy is a WW1 vet. He was drafted when his sons were very young (Tugger only two) and when he returned he discovered Grizabella had abandoned the boys. They were in the care of a young woman named Jellylorum and her father in law named Gus. The two had taken care of the kids in order to do their part, as Jellylorum’s husband had also went away to war. Later, when the Jellicle’s became a group who took shelter in the subways, Deuteronomy was chosen as the community leader thanks to his war expertise. -Munkustrap joined the military in order to follow in his father’s footsteps but was unable to continue because of health reasons. He received an honorable discharge but was always ashamed of it. -Demeter was a ‘lady of the night’ so to speak. She had to make money somehow, and incidentally got pregnant by Macavity. She told him but he completely rejected her at first. When Munkustrap arrived home from war he found out about what his brother did and invited Demeter and her sister to stay with his family so he could right his brother’s wrongs. Macavity found out and got extremely jealous. -Admetus, Electra, and Carbucketty are all children of Jellylorum and Asparagus Jr. While Admetus aims to be a civilized gentlemen, his young siblings are feral children. This is because, after their home town was bombed everyone in the Jellicle tribe went to live in the underground train station. In those circumstances Jellylorum could barely manage to raise her young kids to be prim and proper. -Mistofelees is a milkman, but also the person who gathers rations for the group. Rum Tum Tugger swears he’s magical, and tells stories about it to entertain the kids, but the adults have no idea if he's just making them up or not.

i've never really thought about that!

I've definitely always had the hc that Electra is one of Skimbleshanks and Jennyanydots' kittens, but I do kind of like the idea of her being Bombalurina's kitten. I kind of love the idea of Bombalurina, while escaping Macavity with Demeter, found this little kitten cowering in one of the hallways, and immediately was like "I'm your mom now".

Ace Attorney Head Canons: The Theater Kids

It’s canon that Phoenix was an Art Major - most people assume he was a fine arts major...but it’s been said in interviews that Phoenix was actually studying Theater. His interest being Shakespeare’s works for the soliloquies and the dramatic posing.

Which I love immensely because people naturally want to make Miles the snooty cultured partner in the relationship - but actually, it’s Phoenix.  Miles *likes* the theater but he’s only really interested in mainstream Broadway and opera and stage plays of his favorite animes (he collects the box sets). He doesn’t really seek it out unless Phoenix, Trucy, or Fran makes a fuss over going.

Phoenix is the one who drags Miles to the obscure stage plays, the one-person shows, the Operas that aren’t Carmen or the Magic Flute, and makes Miles buy them season tickets to their local theater house for his birthday gift.  

The fact that people think that he’s the less cultured of the pair when it comes to them showing up the Performing Arts Center’s season openings, amuses Phoenix greatly.   

It’s also the reason why he’s super supportive of Trucy’s magic career - Phoenix wanted to be a performer himself before he decided to become a lawyer.

Despite his love for musical theater, Phoenix can’t sing well.  So in High School Drama club he would do Tech Theater when the club but on a musical, and act in the stage plays.

Phoenix's tech theater knowledge comes in handy with Trucy’s shows.  I imaging to save money when Phoenix's primary income was from his card-shark days - Phoenix can man the lighting booth during her performances and help her rig something up to make her shows more exciting,

You know who else is also a former theater kid?

Klavier.  (big surprise)  

When he wasn’t fast-tracking his way through Themis, getting his badge at 17, and starting an internationally acclaimed rock-group, Klavier preformed in a lot of Themis’ musicals and in the local community plays.

Being the son of the parents who produced, Kristoph, Klavier grew up going to Theater events, Operas, etc. .  So Klavier couldn’t not be a theater-kid, especially with his penitent for performing 

You know isn’t a theater kid? Apollo.

So essentially Klavier and Phoenix bond over this - much to Apollo and Miles’ sometimes irritation. Normally they don’t mind, because it’s nice to have their partners actually bonding over something that they themselves just enjoy for their partners’ love of it. 

However sometimes it gets to the point where Miles and Apollo will ride together separately from Phoenix and Klavier because they don’t want to hear the pair of them attempt to sing every part from “One Day More” from Les Mis.  

Or during game nights, where they play Encore, Miles will ban any card with Broadway prompts, because it essentially goes down to Klavier and Phoenix in an endless cycle of who can come up with the most obscure musical lyric to fit the parameters of the prompt, while everyone else just sits for 30-odd mins watching.

But there are times when Miles and Apollo do enjoy their Theater Nerds because yeah, you do learn some interesting things and you see a lot more plays that aren’t the instant-ticket sells outs.

Once, Apollo and Miles made the mistake of asking “What *is* Cats, even?” and Phoenix and Klavier were this odd mix of “Oh yay! We can tell you” and “Oh god...why”...and “Do you want to proceed down this path, because there’s no turning back...we love you both but we need to know that you really want to do this.”

K:  Andrew Llyod Webber decided to adapt a bunch of children’s poems by T.S. Elliott...it’s literally about cats in a junkyard...being cats on a magical holy day of their tribe.

Phoenix: It’s play meant to really show off the physicality of it’s dancers...one of the sequences is a 10-min straight dance-

K: That scene is a cat orgy.

A&M:  A WHAT?

Phoenix: Well, you know...they’re cats... and a bunch of them are going through their first heats.The whole point of them meeting is to sing, dance, mate, and converge to make a choice for the tribe.

M: And this is one of Broadway’s longest running plays?

K: Yup.  

M: So what’s the story?

Phoenix:  I can tell it badly, and yet I won’t be wrong: A bunch of Cats preform American Idol for their leader to see who gets to go to space in order to be reborn.

A:...

K: He’s not wrong.

Apollo: oh god, my bracelet didn’t even move during Mr. Wright’s statements.

P:  Oh yeah, it’s the play where “Memory” is from.

M: Are you kidding me?

P/K: No.

K: I was Busterfer Jones and Gus in my school productions.

P: What, no “Rum Tum Tugger” for you?

K: Nein, I may be able to sing and act, Herr Wright- but I am no ballerino...also Tugger was severely neutered in the High School productions-Besides... only John Partridge is allowed to play Tugger.

P: Ah yeah, that 1998 stage movie made me realize some things about myself...

K: Same.  I don’t know why mein parents thought it was appropriate for me- I watched it non-stop when I was four. My tape was worn around Tugger and Mister Misto.

Miles: Is this some sort of joke? None of this can be real.

P: Unfortunately it is real, and we can pull it up for you to watch online right now

A: I don’t know...

K: Nein...the trainwreck is happening, so you must witness it.  Also I want to watch the Skimbleshanks sequence.

P: I love Skimbles...

A to Miles: I stg they’re trolling us.

*Phoenix and Klavier are already down the hall heading for the TV room* : “SKIM-BALL-SHANKS the RAILway CAT- THE CAT OF THE RAIL WAY TRAIIIIIN”

Miles and Apollo are totally unprepared for what they soon witness, and both tell Klavier and Phoenix that they just had a collective fever-dream.

Klavier is later vindicated when he hears Apollo quietly singing “Magical Mr. Mistofeles” to himself; they do sing it together in the privacy in their own home after Apollo’s made Klavier swear to never video them doing so.

here are my thoughts, headcanons, about the human owners in the Cats universe. i have cats 2019 in mind with all of this, but a lot of this could easily apply to the stage musical ‘verses, if you’re so inclined. i haven’t thought about them in Great Detail but i have pictured a lot of these cats at home, so i’ve pictured their humans a little. oh side note: when i imagine humans in this universe, i operate on lady and the tramp logic where you cannae properly see them. like, from the neck down at the highest. maintaining the cats themselves as the focal characters. so yeah here are the few hcs i have about people who in my mind literally have no faces or names

munkustrap: i’ve considered the idea that his family is rich but it turns out he lives in a flat thats directly next to a junkyard. i think they’re middle class, maybe even upper middle class, because it’s not cheap to live so close to trafalgar square (that and a lot of these cats live close to each other and we see other cat’s homes that are well off). anyways, they’re a generic late 1930s family. in an idyllic way, really. i’ve based them off the human family in lady and the tramp. munkustrap being our lady. so there’s a husband, a wife and a baby. and there’s also an aunt who takes care of munku when the family is away on holiday. i gave them a baby to add even more to munku’s Paternal Instincts. they’re pleasant people and they treat munkustrap well. the lady of the household brushes him. munku has a bed in the lounge/kitchen area but sometimes they let him sleep on the foot of the bed. munku wants caviar like it’s crack so i have to assume he’s tasted it at least once. this would imply very indulgent owners. or they might have dropped some at a party, who knows. they’re not strict with munku (he can go where he wants to, get given Human Food, sleep on Human Beds) but this never led to him being spoilt because he respects his family a lot and doesn’t take advantage of their kindness (eg. many cats are known to push things off tables. munkustrap would never) oh also the baby has pulled on munku’s tail once but he doesn’t hold it against her

mr. mistoffelees: we can actually glean some things about his family from his song and the behind the scenes. first of all, laurie davidson says misto is owned by a magician, who uses misto as a helper during magic tricks. that is to say, he pulls misto out of his hat. this is delightful and i hold to this concept too. from his song we know at least two things: one lyric says “the family” and thats plural so there’s more than just a magician, who i imagine is a guy, by the way. so he gets a wife. i don’t see them having kids. the other thing we know from his song is that misto sleeps by the fire..... though sometimes he is on the roof, making a ruckus, apparently. misto’s owners are sometimes annoyed but overall fond of their kitties antics. since misto emulates his owner’s magic-ness, it stands to reason that this guy is a guy worthy of being emulated. therefore: decent and nice. concept: misto sees his owner doing magic tricks and being lovey dovey with his wife and is basically like “god i wish that was me”. i also imagine they give misto a decent amount of toys, like a jingly mouse, a ball of yarn, etc. this was partially an attempt to get misto to stop playing with forks and the man of the house’s magician doodads... it didn’t wooork~ yes, im still thinking of 2019 misto, just because he’s anxious, doesn’t mean he can’t be a silly little scamp too. he’s gotta practice his magic!

rum tum tugger: his owner is a sweet lady who adores her kitty so very much and loads him with praise. basically she’s largely responsible for tugger’s,,, High Self Esteem. she talks to him in baby talk a lot. she’s a cat enthusiast and has even entered tugger in some pet shows. she’s good natured enough but her house smells funny. she spoils tugger and will allow him to behave however way he pleases. according to tugger’s song, she sews. he jumps on her lap, throwing her off her task, and she sighs fondly and says “oh, what am i going to do with you?”. nothing. because she wuvs her pwecious widdle kitty. basically, tugger owns her

victoria: she was given to a little girl as a christmas present and what we see at the start of the movie is her being chucked away because the girl and the parents got bored of her once she reached maturity. so basically they’re fickle bastards who weren’t ready for cat ownership

mungojerrie & rumpleteazer: ohhhh boy, so i said tugger was spoilt but these two. these two! their owners are rich. the details of this family are unclear in my head but at the very least theres a middle aged couple who hate the way these cats behave but choose to tolerate it, and a younger stupid woman who ignores their shenanigans and says “they don’t know what they’re doing” (said whilst they grin mischievously). mungo and rumple’s behaviour is put up with because they’re show cats who are worth a lot of money. once in a while they’ll do a show and then the rest of the time these two are Chaos. as i said, their family is the one i’m least clear about, like how many people live here, how everybody is related, but im picturing a somewhat large rich family (like 3 generations in one house and theres a few bratty kids about) and they’re not very nice people. they’re snobby and unkind. any goodness the chaos twins have was given to them by the other jellicle cats, not their owners. oh this household also employs several maids, who have to put up with so much shit, lord

skimbleshanks: skimble has no one Owner in a traditional sense, he is beloved by the people who work at the local railway station. the drivers, the guards, the station master, the station master’s daughters who are 6 and 8. skimble does and doesn’t belong to all of these people. the train people adore skimble and literally will not start the train without him, which is canon. i picture the driver as being really burly, to juxtapose how cooey he gets over this orange kitty. they let him roam the train as he pleases, and honk the train horn, drink scotch and they always give him Human Food. and in return skimble is infallibly loyal and has amazing work ethic. i mean, considering he’s a cat... anyways everybody loves skimbleshanks

and for the sake of the story working, these owners are either ignorant that their cats are getting out or letting them free roam. twas a different time

Bustopher is a jolly, jolly guy and was definitely a Jellicle Choice in his past life. He has an AMAZING life where he is comfortable, well-respected, and happy. He has no real way of KNOWING that he had been Chosen in his past life, but figures that must be the reason he is so prosperous in this one. He's living the kind of life every cat DREAMS of, after all. So he lives every day honoring the unfortunate cat he was in his previous life, and is charitable towards who are less fortunate than himself.

(Look we never have gotten to see Bustopher interact with Grizabella so MAYBE he might have been nice to her. We'll never know)

Skimbleshanks Gets All The Ladies. It is canon. Jennyanydots and Jellylorum are at his head and Bombalurina (after a brief flirtation with Tugger) climbs up onto the tyre in the first gif, shoving at Cassandra, to get her chance to fondle his legs.

Meanwhile, Mistoffelees almost fumbles the catch on the tin when it’s tossed to him but turns it into a flourish, and Tugger audibly squeaks in reaction then comes in slightly too late on his next line, with a bit of a chuckle.
