I'm launching a new story for my dark cream ship kids and co ^^

I usually don't warn before the first part is done but I thought Mimosa's birthday was a good day to announce it!

A Tear's Soul!

I already showed that drawing (hehe it's the cover) but now I can talk about it ;3

The project is gonna a mix of comics and writings (because I'd burn myself out trying to do full comic when I'm not very experienced in those... They're hard, ok?)

Sooo it's gonna take me a while........................

Even if I try to shorten it as much as possible (10 parts unless problems)

I think the ones who'd be interested all know how my projects usually go, it's not gonna be a cute, fluffy story uwu. It'll have some fluff tho promise, but angst is part of the journey here! I'll give warnings each time I feel it's necessary :P

finished opla and have truly shocked myself.... i think sanji might be my favorite. he is just a little baby. i want to squeeze him so hard.

#Nami is also very high up there. loved her so much. Lesbian QUEEN #of course I loved Luffy how can you not??? and zoro was great and so was usopp #but weirdly something about live action sanji was just really good to me #i didn't go into opla expecting to get a new fav. especially since i really don't like sanji in the anime #he's just not my cup of tea... even more so as the series goes on. i liked him more when he was first introduced #so this was a nice surprise!! #also loved coby and helmeppo and garp and zeff and nojiko and all the others #oh!! and buggy. he was hilarious #AND KUINA MY PERFECT DARLING BABY GIRL SHE WAS SO GOOD AND RIGHT AND EVERYTHING TO ME #SHE DESERVED 10000 MORE HOURS OF SCREEN TIME #but yeah opla was very very fun and everyone should watch it #i enjoyed that they actually killed people and the fights (even though there were silly moves) felt serious and dangerous #and there was some blood (not gore which would have shocked me if there was but it wasn't completely bloodless either which i appreciate) #and there was cursing and flipping people off which was perfect and hilarious #AND THE SHIPS WERE SO GOOD LOOK AT THOSE BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BOATS #anyway i loved it and would watch it 100 more times #one piece

I also want to make it very clear that the spider-verse franchise has made miles one of the dearest characters ever to me. All of the spidermen in the movie are great. But despite all our differences in bg and identity Miles' story speaks to me like very little else does (w/ some rare exceptions I keep very close to my heart). I'm not really coherent enough to provide sophisticated analysis rn but just know that he is my everything and I adore him so so much

#ramblings of a lunatic #like. the first spider-verse movie spoke to me as a 13 yr old when it came out #he was a kid with high expectations set for him and all these artistic ambitions but he dismissed himself. he doubted himself #he didn't realize that just being himself was valuable bc he is valuable. his journey to becoming spiderman #-hit so goddamn hard. it's about the fuckin. don't do it like me miles. do it like you (cut line spoken by peter b) #bc the way miles does it is good enough. he's good enough #and this second movie is still on that train but even harder as everyone tries to shut him out and make him feel not good enough #Miguel's projecting his bullshit onto miles his friends aren't sticking up for him his parents are disappointed in him. and he's hiding #but the movie affirms even harder that no. miles is something different and that is what makes him so special. he has so much worth #he has cosmic significance bc he is defiantly himself #and like. all of the subtext i mentioned above is clearly based around/related to his afrolatino identity #and I'm not gonna pretend for a minute that i get that part the way i get the more. surface level ig? aspects of his arc #these arcs exist bc of his background and how they thematically tie his identity into the story #but like. that context doesn't make him any less relatable. it just makes him mean different things for different ppl yknow? #and that's the beauty behind the while ''anyone can be behind the mask'' motif from the first movie #anyway. these movies are really good. i love miles #spiderverse spoilers

s11 and what i've seen of s12 have been so interesting to me..... something changed but i can't articulate what and why and how my taste and my preferences and my expectations affect the way i think about these later seasons

#new writers? something in the air? it's just different #not BAD it's just. there's a kind of‚ i wanna say cheesiness or something about s11 that i didn't expect #there are moments that i really really loved and some i was just repulsed by in a different way than ever before? #there's also the quality of the production i think but that's whatever. like it's not the same show because it can't be. right #but um before s11 i don't think i've felt that that sunny was gimmicky. the schemes and hijinks and stuff felt organic in a way #oh i did feel kind of weird about (dissatisfied with?) some parts of frank reynolds' little beauties for example but it never felt like #that was overpowering the comedy and the fun #NO sitcom is consistently funny or consistently delivers the type of humor You personally like #there are episodes i don't love in my favorite seasons too #i don't know i guess i just thought s11 was more interesting (from the character side of things) than it was funny #but then again i did think the last three episodes were also just funny #and then with s12‚ which i've seen half of lol. it's weeeird as well #because i do love it but some of it made me cringe hard but some of it was so earnest and so fun i was grinning uncontrollably #but i'll see what i think at the end.. and after a full rewatch #which IS going to happen. so #you know. #kata.txt #iasip

i have a lovely little secret project... at the museum where i work i love to look at things and eavesdrop on people. i have been writing little poems and i’m thinking how wonderful would it be to craft a zine with my illustrations and writings and thoughts from behind the exhibits ..

AND FOR THE BEST #holy shit. like outside the legacy instruments. the stuff used for this specific version is *chef's kiss* #classy and mysterious. casual but y'know something's going on beneath #and don't get me started on the fucking architect motif. oh my god #like outside it being used MASTERFULLY across the entire song (not too much nor too direct but still keeping it alive by spirit) #it just. hurts so much #so much #it's a past desperately asking to not be left out. to be allowed to be given the light it was never able to #the way it was used specifically sounds like a funeral. mournful of itself. afraid of the brighter future #yet...there's glimpses of hope in its cry. clinging to net 0 hope #yet being listened to #listened on and on. it does not know. probably never will. but its voice and sorrow will be what brings it to life #and for its hope to bloom into the brightest‚ most beautiful flower beneath the warming sun #(probably doesn't convey my feelings about this well + first impressions. will 100% change over time. but fucking christ oh my god)

Time to talk an unnecessary amount about floors!

Episode 6 of Dungeon Meshi was produced in collaboration with a smaller studio, Enishiya - and it went way harder than I expected, for being made up of two relatively simple and self contained stories focusing on one character each.

And you can really see how those extra resources meant the animators could give full focus to both halves of the episode. Let's take a look at one piece that stole the show.

The first half was handled primarily by episode director/storyboard artist Keita Nagahara and co-animation director Hirotoshi (or Hiroaki? [1]) Arai. It's actually kinda insane how much of this section can be attributed to these two.

But the real star of the show is the second half, Chilchuck vs the mimic, led by co-animation director Toya Ooshima in his first animation director role for TV anime!

And the biggest aspect that knocked my dang boots off was something that's very consistent with Ooshima's style: background animation!

By animating the backgrounds rather than using painted still images, Ooshima and the team of other similarly skilled animators are able to create these beautiful dynamic camera movements that wouldn't be possible otherwise. Like these cuts by Takeshi Maenami where the camera becomes an expressive part of the scene, zipping forward and backward, and tilting to emphasize the speed of this murderous hermit crab. (Maenami's style is also very recognizable here - snappy timing and quick camera movements)

Or this cut by the incredible Kaito Tomioka which cleverly combines a traditional background for the walls with a fully animated floor. The level of detail in these tiles is just completely insane, and used to great effect with this wide, diagonal angle, and the way the camera tentatively drifts forward before reversing direction, and the tiles blur out as it speeds up.

I don't think I'm the only one caught off guard by how much they full-assed this little side story, but it was a pleasant surprise!
