the jeong jinman backstory episode was so intense oh my god. LDW is so hot in this show, i need him in more action thrillers. that insane tension he had with bale, the eye contact, that knife fight scene! psychos really aren’t human because wdym he survived a bullet in the eye, multiple stab wounds, and a blown up building???
i definitely think jj is still alive. i don’t think he fell for some deep fake catfish bs which is why he listened to the recording over and over. he trained jian if she was ever in trouble to call his name three times. its laughable that that hacker brat really think he fooled jinman
minhye better not die, she is everything.

i thoroughly enjoyed 'a shop for killers' because in addition to hot men fighting and tired men being dads, the show does a clever job of subverting expectations, which shows up in some of the following ways:
- jinman is a good guy because he doesn't enjoy killing whereas bale kills for sport and for fun. except jinman is also comfortable putting his team in danger because completing the mission is his first priority whereas bale goes looking for his teammates and ends up saving their lives by shooting their attackers. seongwa would've died in that first mission if not for bale, which makes him loyal to bale. and seongwa is a real shit starter, always saying what people suspect out loud which directly undermines jinman's influence over the team. who cares if jinman is "good" if he can't be relied upon to protect his teammates. like their leader says privately to jinman, they're not soldiers they're mercenaries. they only have each other. so even though jinman has a moral conscience it's hypocritical and he loses his team's loyalty over it.
- jian has an innate ability to think quickly on her feet and make tough decisions to survive, things she didn't learn from jinman. he just directs her but she has that raw power inside her
- i really like how minhye is introduced in the show. that part where she suddenly pops up at the glass door, startling jian (and us) was so clever because the viewer's instinct is to read her as dangerous/as a threat. so it's a relief when she turns out to be a good guy bc the show has established her as a capable and competent threat to the villains. and then she lives up to the hype
lots of effective character writing in this show that i loved as a writer. would def recommend to anyone who likes action movies with found family themes

dirty little secret - you're the only one who needs to know | bang chan
pairing: bang chan x reader, ??? x reader
genre: uni!au, predebut/idol!au, manager!reader, slow burn
chapter warnings: crying,
word count: 1.2k-ish
author notes: wow... only took me 2 years to finish this. thank u all for the love and support for this, epilogue coming soon w/ the sappy shit every writer does xoxo

Tumblr media
Chan sits there in shock. The last time you called him Chris to his face was when you were shouting at him to get out of your house. Sure, you had written it on the note to him, but he couldn’t help but feel his heart jump as he hears it. Tears fill his eyes as he listens to you recall how he treated you when you started at the company, and he readies himself for the biggest heartbreak of his life. Except, it never came. A wave of relief washes over him, and Chan breaks down.
He didn’t deserve you, yet here you are, telling him that you still had feelings for him. Your arms open for him to fall into, and he falls into your shoulder as sobs wrack through his body. Your hand threads through his hair, comforting him in a way you had done back in Australia. The two of you sit there for what seems like hours, as Chan continues to thank you and apologise.
His breathing steadies, and he sits back up as you hand him a few tissues. You laugh a little at his puffy eyes and red nose, but he’s never looked so handsome.
“Thank you, y/n, seriously, thank you.” Chan smiles, sniffling a little. He knows he’s in for the ride of his life, but he’ll go to the moon and back if it means he has you by his side.
Tumblr media
You aren’t easy on him. At all. Before you and Chris, the couple, there’s you and him, manager and artist – and the first awards show was mere weeks away. As much as you’d like to, there’s just no time to rebuild your relationship when there were new dance breaks to rehearse, stage mixes to be sent to the various events and stylists to co-ordinate stage outfits with. It’s the worst time to even be thinking about your relationship with Chris.
But, it’s perhaps the best time for Felix and Jisung to walk into your office, carrying a gift basket containing iced coffee, snacks and a folded piece of paper nestled in the front. The other boys didn’t know yet, but Jisung and Felix figured it out almost immediately after your conversation with Chris. You seemed happier to see the boys every day, he started working on more love songs in his free time – something must have gone right, right? At least they were kind enough to act as the secret messenger while you tested the waters.
“Oh, Y/N~! Your not-so-secret admirer has sent you a gift~!” Jisung waltzes over to your desk, setting down the gift basket as Felix places an energy drink right next to it (a personal gift from him). You laugh as you open the energy drink, taking a sip and sighing happily.
“Did he now? I wonder who it might be?” You take another sip and you motion them to sit down. Skimming over the note quickly, you smile to yourself as you move the basket to another part of your desk so you can lean over and talk to the two men sitting in your office. It’d become a habit for them to stay and gossip whenever they came by to drop off care packages from your not-yet boyfriend.
“I have a meeting with Minhye tomorrow confirming where I’m getting transferred, you know, conflict of interest and all,” you roll your eyes at your own comment. In all honesty, you were surprised the company didn’t fire you or put Chris on hiatus when you told them about your budding relationship – or the history behind it. You must have proven yourself enough for them to want to keep you on in some capacity, and you were grateful.
“We’ll still get to come see you, right?” Felix sat up, eyes wide in anticipation.
“Of course! I’m pretty sure I’ll be moving to Itzy’s management team, so I’ll still be around. Chris will still need his messengers.” You wink at the pair, laughing as they cringe at the thought of him spending hours on these gifts, stressing over the contents of the note when they know you’d be happy with just a ‘make sure you take a break’.
“When do we get to stop sneaking around, huh? I don’t know how much longer I can keep this a secret!” Jisung leaned back into the couch. You and Chris were having way too much fun at his expense.
“I mean… we could do it now? Tell the boys? I guess they deserve to know why their leader’s been so into love songs recently.” Felix and Jisung’s faces light up, and suddenly the phones were out to round everyone up for an impromptu meeting. Chris had mentioned telling them a couple of weeks ago; you told him you weren’t ready, and that you’d let him know when you were. But, you’d have to tell them why you were being transferred eventually.
Tumblr media
The nine of you were sat in a circle in the middle of a practice room. Chris holds your hand in his lap, playing with your rings. Jisung and Felix trying to hold back their giggles, everyone else is quietly muttering to themselves. You turn to Chris, giving him a quick nod before taking a deep breath.
“Okay, so, I have some news to share. I am no longer going to be managing you guys.” The room falls silent. Jeongin’s eyes start to glaze over, Changbin’s sitting there in shock, Hyunjin and Minho let out a gasp.
“What?! Why? Did you resign?! Are you moving home?!?” Seungmin asks every single question the group had, and you can’t help but laugh as his frantic search for answers.
“No, Seungmin, oh my god, everyone chill out. I will be transferring to another group, not confirmed yet, but I’ll still be in the building.” The room erupts into laughter at the joke, instantly desolving the previous tension.
“So, if you aren’t leaving the company, why are you leaving us?” Jeongin’s voice wobbled a little, and you feel terrible. You’d grown close to him, viewing him as a younger brother of sorts, you reach over and grab his hand, squeezing it before Changbin wraps an arm around him.
“I… how do I explain this… I promise you I’m not going anywhere. You’ll see me just as much, if not more, isn’t that right, Chris?” You turn to him, smiling widely as everyone slowly realises the underlying context of what you’ve just said.
The once quiet practice room erupts into a sea of cheers, as you and Chris are all but tackled to the ground. You swear you see Hyunjin sigh and pull some notes out of his pocket to hand to Minho, who is busy dancing around celebrating his win.
“Noona! You worried me! I was gonna cry! You should’ve said the good news first!” Jeongin’s arms are wrapped tightly around your shoulders while Chris is inundated with taps on the shoulder and congratulatory messages. You can’t help but smile in relief. Felix and Jisung look just as relieved, happy to know they won’t be responsible for keeping your relationship with their leader a secret anymore. A soft kiss to the back on your hand reminds you that Chris was still next to you, and that everything was going to work out eventually.

So A Shop for Killers....I liked it. It was a short drama that honestly, I wish was a little longer...this one I think could benefit from maybe being like a 10-12 or even 16 ep drama but hey, that's just me. I think for what they were able to squeeze into 8 eps...was pretty impressive.
I fucking knew Jeong Jinman wasn't dead and I'm so happy the drama proved me right in the last couple of minutes. But also like...we never saw Bale so does that mean that he went to go fight Bale off screen? Pity, I would have liked to seen him win.
But also, since we didn't see Bale...does that mean we might get a second season? Because Pasin and Minhye fucked off to who knows where...I don't know, I liked the drama overall. It kinda gave us an open ending but a happy one, so I'm not mad. I do kinda wish that Jian had called Jinman's name three times and then he showed up, that would have been cool, but hey, that's just me.
But overall, I enjoyed the drama. Bale and Bae Jeongmin and Babylon can fucking rot for all I care...fuck y'all and I hope you don't attain enlightenment. Suffer

❛ i need you, you idiot. ❜ // minhye x jukan
it was a particularly difficult morning to deal with and jukan knew that his husband better than anyone ought to know the things that inflected minhye like nothing else. and for most of it, she was costumed to push forward and don't let it shatter her day-to-day but sometimes it wasn't as welcoming to be her as she was used to making it be. for starters, she wanted to scream at him for saying that, but she also couldn't the deny anything to that ridiculous face he had on; one that gave away the worry in his eyes and the usual brow frowned in comprehension. minhye got up from her feet irritated, it didn't help she was nineteen weeks pregnant but she managed it like it was a natural movement on her part. it wasn't like she didn't want to work, she just didn't have to when her husband was so good at his job and her employees were so understanding and driving, it was the perfect combination of the best team in the world and the most talented of bosses being under the same roof that was their house. minhye took a closer look at the conversation opened in jukan's laptop with the same inconclusive face she used to make for most the work things related, it was the best poker face she ever learned how to do and it often would come naturally when she was just thinking the most obvious things.
"he's being dramatic, that's not gonna work. tell him the contract is off." it was a bluff, of course, she wanted the client to take the bait and calm down to take whatever they were offering him and jukan knew that. now looking at the situation, him being way better at this type of stuff than she ever was, she realizes his whole play was just to get a better look at how was she doing and maybe involve her in some of the work so she wouldn't die of boredom. "you went to business school, i don't think i should be the one to tell you that." now he was also offering her the opportunity to tease him which would make her day regardless of the situation at hand when she looked back to take a look at his eyes, he was grinning back because he knew exactly what she was thinking. "i guess you actually do need me to remind you of you, so you're the idiot." and she was just having to much fun doing it. minhye gave him back the notebook, side-ways glancing at him while she made her way to the kitchen, since she was already up she could at least keep herself busy trying to make lunch.
rather than a pain in the ass being pregnant twice now proved to be quite the boring activity, she was already way beyond knowing the basics, and this time at least they didn't have the separation of a virus between them so they could both involve themselves in and out of the basics principles of being parents. luckily sunny was the sweetest child in the world, she wouldn't complain about not being in her mother's arms all the time although minhye would still hold her all the time even when she supposedly wasn't advised to. and jukan was a great dad, he proved himself to be the most caring and best partner she could ever ask for, although knowing as he always had been for the entire time of their relationship she never once questioned his ability to be exactly whom he was. and of course, they kept struggling to accept the fact they were in there once again, this time two in the way, but it was as chaotic in the way only they could make it. they would delegate shores, divide to conquer, and seize the moments — tasks that proved efficient with time. they were better partners in life than they could ever be anything else so having a business together while being parents together also, were all together: the prime quest of their life.
half way through looking at what they had in their fridge while listening to what jukan had to say, minhye gave up with her hands in the way. "give that, ill handle it! you make me lunch." she demanded, interrupting his monologue and sitting in the stall of the kitchen counter, kissing him quickly on the lips as she did so. she shifted her attention to the computer in front of her, smiling widely. "yes, come to mama." typing furiously, she wasn't even preoccupied in falling right into jukan's trap when in fact she was immensely happy with him for it. she would kiss him all over later, do whatever he wanted... a change of heart quickly as ever, she was feeling incredibly cheerful now.

💬 Highlights from Cine 21 Interview on Celebrity
- 'Building up step by step, 'Celebrity' Park Gyu-young' : Gyuyoung on slowly building up her acting career, her thoughts on her Celebrity character Seo Ari, and her adoration for Carey Mulligan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2018, you had your first encounter with Cine 21 as a rising star, and in 2021, during Sweet Home, you graced the cover alongside Song Kang, Lee Dohyun, and Go Minsi. And now, it's your first time being the solo cover model for Cine 21.
- In the early days of my debut, having my name appear in Cine 21 was a dream and it's one of the items on my bucket list. (So) it was a great feeling to be on the cover with my friends during Sweet Home. Being able to do a solo cover and interview now makes me incredibly happy.
You seem like an actor who has steadily built your career, and now you've reached the status of lead actor in a Netflix series. What were your thoughts when the opportunity came?
- I'm really grateful for your description of my career as 'steadily building.' Even in works that were never shown, I was continuously gaining experience, and when I received the script for the lead role in a Netflix series, I couldn't believe it! I had a lot of doubts about my capacity to pull it off. However, I love challenging myself with goals that are a bit more difficult than what I can already do, and I believed that the director's guidance and the writer's script would be of great help.
Tumblr media
Being a celebrity necessitates making strategic use of social media. It could not have always been simple to distinguish between the world represented in Celebrity and reality.
- Because my occupation is to be a celebrity, there were few obstacles in creating this fictional figure to communicate the message. Celebrity presents a single tale from several viewpoints through its broad ensemble of characters, and I just saw my role, Ari, as one of them. But, in order to guarantee that I stayed loyal to the original message and did not tint it with my own quick judgements, I played the role while constantly soliciting feedback. But now that I have the opportunity to discuss this story as an actor, it's a little more challenging for me. Celebrity clearly has a message it wants to convey with Ari, but if you asked me, Park Gyuyoung, what my thoughts are on this, I wouldn't know what to say. I came up with this thought that it's a work with several points of view on the subject of social media, and it's up to each individual to decide what they want to take away from it.
Before becoming an influencer, Seo Ari was doing door-to-door cosmetic sales, and after coincidentally gaining fame by meeting her high school classmate Minhye (played by Jeon Hyosung), she started her rise to stardom. And then there's Seo Ari, who declares she will reveal the truth through a live broadcast. You must have had to portray all of them differently.
- I focused solely on Ari's attitude towards the people she encounters and the changing situations. As the story progresses, Ari's self-assurance and confidence grow stronger. By the time of the final live broadcast, her convictions become so firm that she adopts the stance of sharing them with the world. While there may be subtle tonal differences, such as appearing slightly darker or brighter in character, or celebrity-like on the surface, what underlies the entire context is her inherent self-confidence.
There are many aspects of Seo Ari's life after her parents' business failed that should be left to speculation. How did Seo Ari live during that time? What kind of influence did it have on her personality in the present time?
- Surely, Ari must have had moments of discouragement. Going from having something solid to losing it in an instant and returning to everyday life must have been incredibly challenging. There would have been moments of intense suffering and facing reality within that. Afterwards, she must have searched for something she could do and ended up working as a door-to-door cosmetics salesperson. Through the process of striving to do her best in what she can, Ari's survival instinct became more realised. The reason Ari is now someone who can fully focus on herself is because she went through that process. Even when Ari is cornered, she possesses the strength to overcome it.
Unlike influencers who gain hundreds of thousands of followers over the course of several years, Seo Ari quickly gained recognition. While the former are familiar with the success strategies of the influencer community, Seo Ari is not. Naturally, there are bound to be differences, from inherent personality to visible attitude. Just as there are times on social media when you feel like following someone because you want to, Seo Ari has a noticeable charm that doesn't require her to make an effort to stand out.
- When I see people who are clearly confident in themselves and those I feel like I want to continue to watch them, I follow their accounts on my own. (Laughs) Nowadays, rather than getting swept up in what's popular and following the trend, there are people who maintain their own identity. Ari certainly had her own unique qualities. The LEGO hair was a visual representation of that. Because of the complex interplay of the context of the time and the events that occurred, all the stars aligned for her to succeed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recently, you've posted a lot about Carrie Mulligan's works like "Never Let Me Go" and "Drive" on Instagram.
- I've long admired this actress. Especially with "Never Let Me Go," I've been watching it repeatedly for years, and I recently posted scenes that left an impression when I watched it again. long admired this actress. Mulligan has a childlike face yet a tremendous force within her. She holds the interest of the audience. Baz Luhrmann, the director of "The Great Gatsby," once said Carrie Mulligan is an actress he has a compelling desire to protect when sharing a casting anecdote. I love that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being part of Sweet Home, Celebrity and in the upcoming Season 2 of Squid Game, you've appeared in several Netflix series. Overseas viewers have also watched It's Okay to Not Be Okay through Netflix. These works connect you to a global audience, allowing you to receive immediate reactions from viewers worldwide.
- During the period when I was consistently working on projects, the timing aligned well with Netflix's entry into Korea, hence I was able to seize these great opportunities. With the diversification of platforms, more directors and writers can unfold various stories, and from an actor's perspective, I gained opportunities to portray diverse characters too. I'm grateful.
Besides the representative works mentioned earlier, you've always been consistently working on projects. You must have experienced a sense of accomplishment, setbacks, and various trials and errors during that period of time. Looking back on it now, how would you describe these experiences?
- I've maintained a consistent mindset throughout these numerous ups and downs. I don't set high expectations. Whenever possible, I discard other thoughts and focus solely on the work and character in front of me. That mindset has become the driving force that keeps me from feeling greatly disappointed, disillusioned, or off track. By continuously training myself in this manner, it became possible. Acting isn't just a fun activity. The more you do it, the more challenging it becomes, and the more you want to improve, which can be a painful process. However, you have to accept the burden and stress that come with acting. Fortunately, thanks to the love from the on-set staff, company personnel, and fan support, I was able to stand up again.
For A Good Day to be a Dog and Sweet Home Season 2, what kind of performances can we expect from you?
- The characters and genres vary from one work to another. In A Good Day to be a Dog, I play a woman cursed to turn into a dog if she kisses someone. She accidentally kisses a man and must kiss him again to break the curse, but that man happens to have a fear of dogs. In Sweet Home Season 2, the scale is larger than the previous season, and the characters are more diverse.
With the release of these projects, you are already a remarkable rising star, and we can imagine you ascending to even greater heights. This might be an exciting period for you. How are you currently spending your time?
- I'm truly grateful for the congratulatory messages on my castings. So, I want to express my thanks again. However, if I let myself get too excited, I start to botch up what I need to do. That's my principle. I focus on what I need to do right away and avoid thinking about anything else!

Hey I just wanted to tell u the reason angeltearsxoxo deactivated. When I was really struggling with the void I asked her for help. And she just started randomnly talking about how she's korean and stuff about how life is in korea.. and I was like wtf 😐 and so I kinda didn't talk to her again. And then recently @newjnshaerin corrected her spelling of her name:
https://www.tumblr.com/newjnshaerin/722297013917597696/%EB%AF%BC%ED%97%A4-is-minhae-what-you-wrote-is-minhye?source=share <- just copy and paste this
and then another korean blogger said that all the Korean asks angel would answer in korean were obviously Google translated because she was using words only Google translate uses.
And so people were asking her if she was lying about her race like rosie. And then she just deactivated.
I think it's so funny that both rosie and angel would constantly talk about race fetishizing and how wrong it is, like until recently, they were the only two blogs that really even discussed it but it turns out it was just self projection cuz they're the liars/fetishizers
Lol stop lying, there’s already a lot going on, minhae isn’t like that

my k-drama's of july 2023
Tumblr media
Finally, after a long hiatus on this account, last post was literally September of 2022. I'm back with another k-drama rant review , which I've binged 3 dramas, 2 from 2023 and another from 2021/2022. It also took me a while to watch another k-drama where the last one was I think Extraordinary Attorney Woo (which aired in June-Aug 2022), whew that's almost a year of no k-drama for me.
Anyway, I have binge-watch 3 k-dramas back to back to back and if you want to read my full review of it, please keep reading.
Before clicking that Keep Reading button, be aware that this is a review and it will not be spoiler free; if you haven't watch the k-dramas Celebrity, Cheongdam International High School (B*tch and Rich), and Snowdrop, then go watch them first before reading this post.
Hope you enjoy my review!
Celebrity
Tumblr media
First drama to be reviewed would be Celebrity, which is a recent release by Netflix and I actually watched the preview before it was released but I was like hm I didn't get it(??) Either way I actually forgot why I've decided to watch this drama despite of not really interested into it that time I watched the preview, because either I just didn't feel the trailer or have no interest in the concept of this celebrities / influencer themed k-drama.
Even so, I did watch it and... I liked it! To start off, the trailer tells about how a "Celeb" or influencer died and now she's back, revealing secrets and the truth. I actually thought it would be a cliche drama but I was wrong on that assumption.
Things I like about this drama:
The Narrative - the way the story unfolds isn't something new, like other dramas / movies have already used such way to narrate but I guess there's something about how they did it that caught my attention. I like how they don't follow a linear way of telling the story and uncovering secrets but they do it little by little that made me keep going, getting intrigue on what's going to happen next or what secret is about to be spilled.
The concept of "What you see isn't always the truth on the internet" - The drama focused on Celeb or Influencers, the way they always have stories to tell through social media posts and share something, then turns out to be not true. Example, during Oh Minhye's launch of her pop-up store, they get to have a picture together for promotional purposes but then after the picture was taken, they were unhappy around each other. This is just one example of what you see in the internet isn't what it seems.
Bringing awareness to a timely issue - This drama doesn't only show how people can fake their lives or their relationship with others, it also delved into the realm of you should not trust anyone on the internet. We get to see how Ari trusted bbbfamous just because they have valuable information that she can use, and with that decision of trusting a complete stranger, the consequences were grave and other people were affected negatively. I like how this is an eye-opening experience, especially the target viewers of k-drama's are usually teenagers and young adults, it can help them understand these situations as it can happen in real life.
Integrating new technology - in one portion of the drama, we get to see Ari's friend using Deep Fake to disguise as Ari, and this new emerging technology was briefly explained and how it affected the general population. As a person who knows this technology, I appreciate that they added that technology to bring awareness and how can it affect us, since it is a new technology, I'm sure not everyone is aware of it. Deep Fake can be beneficial but it can also be harmful if used with the wrong intention.
Mentioned above are the things that I've liked or enjoyed with the drama, now let's get into the reason why I only gave this drama a 9 instead of a perfect 10:
Ending seemed incomplete - in the beginning things were very detailed, everything was shown, every minor detail is zoomed into but then we get to the last episode and it felt rushed for me that they weren't able to show what happened that resulted to a certain scene. An example would be how did Ari got out of the car or how did she manage to live, they didn't show this scene because it might be unnecessary and maybe they want it to be a surprise, but personally, it felt instant on how she survived, making it less believable. Now there are other scenes that I wished they've added but it might be unnecessary BUT there's a scene that I wish they've added and I think it's very important. So in the last episode, we get to see bbbfamous, it was briefly shown, how she lived her life and how she felt when she was doing her act as bbbfamous. She was confronted by Ari then she stated her reason and jumped. I thought that she unalive but she was hospitalized instead and that's it. I was disappointed on that one because they could've added a scene where bbbfamous is in jail or a court trial; Because what she did is something grave, like a crime, it was also shown how Ari was emotionally affected by it, how come we didn't get to see a scene where she was paying for her sins when we get to see her share her reason why she did it and be all sad about it like she was the victim, when she is one of the reason why Ari's life got messed up in the first place. I'm pointing this out because I treat bbbfamous as one of the antagonist of this drama and that it reflects reality, how in real life someone could be like bbbfamous and make other people's life miserable.
Romance development seemed lacking - I personally like dramas that focuses on a different genre but has a hint of romance, because too much romance for me is just too cringy, even if I do love the chemistry of both leads, I still find it cheesy. I was happy that Celebrity included a hint of romance into Ari's life but clearly the stability of the romance is off. The vibe of their relationship was awkward, and that Sihyeon and Jungyeong's past relationship felt more genuine. I'd say they could've made the relationship of Ari and Jungyeong more sincere or legit OR they could've scrapped the romance entirely since its not really the point of the drama, and just an addition to make Ari more miserable because of the guy literally almost unalive due to her decisions in life. tbh im disappointed on this one, I actually like the chemistry between the leads.
Now those are my thoughts on the drama Celebrity, it was almost a favorite but unfortunately it lacked a little bit that didn't make it to the cut. Either way its a binge-worthy k-drama and is recommended to be watched.
Cheongdam International High School (B*tch and Rich)
Tumblr media
The second drama that I'm going to review would be the Cheongdam International High School or commonly known as B*tch X Rich. I keep on putting an asterisk because idk if swear word is allowed in tumblr So this drama is about a high school student who visited an International High School and there she witnessed a murder that lead her into transferring to the said school and began to experience "hell" due to clashing with the most influential student in the school prior to her transferring.
When the poster for this drama was revealed, I was really excited because even if I didn't know the short haired girl, which a lot of people know because she appeared in all of us are dead and I haven't watched that drama so idk really I know Yeri (cuz she's from Red Velvet aye) and I think this is her first lead role. She is also the "villainess" in this drama so I did expect a lot.
This will be the shortest review out of the three but all I can say is this drama is mediocre. The acting of the actors is nice, especially Yeri because omg she delivered and the production quality is amazing, the setting and the bgm are bomb. The problem is how messy the story is and how is it presented. Got some few rants and I will tell them now. First, why is Hyein's character like that, She is smart but then she keeps on making regrettable decision. I understand that she's in high school and she's just a teenager but the way she makes her choices and experience the consequences, it feels like she didn't learn hence no growth on her part. Her character is made that way so that bad things can keep on happening and that's awful as the character won't have any significance and its just a tool in the story to make things worse. Second, the adults in this drama are useless. Hyein's father, that teacher who had relationship with Jena's father, Doeon's father, all of them are just there, characters that are added without any purpose or positive contribution to the teenagers in the story. I think that they were added and making them useless forces the teenagers to standout more but then that's a wrong depiction of adults as adults should help and guide teenagers and young ones to flourish. Last rant ig would be the what did I just watched and why doesn't it make sense questions unanswered and the possibility of another season. The last episode should answer all the questions that were built up but then instead of literally resolving all of the problems, it opened up to more questions.
Overall, this drama is mediocre, not bad but not great either. No clear direction of what kind of theme it was going for, is it bullying or is it the mystery / murder. Is it worth binging? For me, no because its like a bread that wasn't even fully cooked but taken out of an oven, resulting to being uncooked and unservable.
Snowdrop
Tumblr media
Last one to be reviewed is Snowdrop. Snowdrop isn't really a 2023 release and a lot of people must've watched it already but I just watched it this year so obviously I'll be able to review it only now.
Snowdrop is about a freshman in college named Yeongro discovering a man covered in blood in her college dorm in the year 1987. And things weren't the same before after this incident.
This drama is actually one of my most anticipated watch because Jisoo is in it, and its her acting debut, and the chemistry of her and Haein for me is amazing. I didn't watch this till now because whenever a drama is on-going, people keep on posting, spoiling stuff that ruins the fun. plus I don't have disney+ so I can't watch it lol
Anyway here is my review: I'm sad, like what was that :(
Okay so I'm going to explain that things that I liked and didn't like (or rant about things). First is the things that I liked or enjoyed:
The period in which korea was in - As you may all know, I am a sucker for historical korean dramas, where it is set in the period (Goryeo, Joseon etc.) where people still wear hanboks and concepts of royalty still exists. Now in Snowdrop, its part of Korea's history but its more recent compared to the historical dramas that I've watched. Its a refreshing watch since I've either watched k-dramas that are historical, set in a place where it does not exist (fantasy fiction), or the modern times (the present). I do appreciate that the places were shown accurately and what are the hobbies / entertainment during that time and what living was like during that period.
The Actors - Honestly, one of the reason why I chose to finish this drama is because of the actors. They were able to portray their characters well. Haein is one of the lead of this drama and he was able to convey his emotions very well, especially when he had those close up shots. Then we have Hyeyoon, who is so good at portraying her role that I'm twice as pissed at her in this drama compared to Sky Castle, then I'd also like to share how I loved Inna in this drama, because I have watched her other dramas (Goblin and Touch Your Heart) and this is the first time I've seen her that she's not the adorable, feminine type because of the nature of her character. Of course, how can I forget Jisoo, who just made her acting debut and she did performed as if its not her first time. She did well tbh, though I'm a bit sad on how she was always miserable and sad throughout the drama that almost 80% of screen time she bawl her eyes out. There are the other actors, to name some, Kim Minkyu, Jung Eugene, Kim Jungnan, Yoon Seah, Jung Yiseo, Yum Junghwa and many more, whom I have watched on other dramas and enjoyed that they're in this drama. It's actually comforting seeing them despite the story not really comforting at all.
The production - the production for this drama is insane, from the establishments, the dorm omg its so pretty I wanna study there cuz apparently its a university in real life , the props and the minor details, it was researched well that it made the setting realistic and I felt like I traveled back in time. Aside from that, I also love the OST for this drama. The instrumental songs gives that nostalgic vibe and the vocals of each song is gorgeous that I get goosebumps whenever I listen to it.
How eye-opening it is - I rarely watch political dramas because I tend to get bored on how serious the tone and the atmosphere is but then Snowdrop is heavy on the political side which I didn't expect. Even if I'm not a fan of this topic, I made my way through finishing it just for the sake of seeing how it ends and I can say that I did learn something from this drama, political wise and that is how powerful people in politics are and how easy it is for them to manipulate people in general. This is a very timely thing and even in this drama I found these people in politics annoying, with their greed and selfishness, they are willing to do everything even the bad just to get what they want. This just shows how important it is to elect the right people, who are willing to serve, and not those who crave for power.
Now let's move on to the things that made my Snowdrop experience unsatisfying:
Starting off with the genre, I expected this drama to be romance heavy, as advertised, with all of the poster about Yeongro and Sooho, it gives the romantic vibe. I don't watch trailers that much to avoid spoilers but yes, I relied on the posters, which there's no hint of gunfight or politics, just plain old romance. With that being said, I have high expectations on the romance, starting off on the right foot with the first few episodes, which there really is some romantic and cute scenes, but after that, when the hostage situation started, it was not romantic anymore obviously. I honestly thought the hostage situation would last for only a few episodes but then I realized that the hostage situation is the biggest portion of the plot. Not the biggest fan of hostages because of how stressful and emotionally draining it is so during those episodes I was like how is this a romance drama, that I have to double check the genre of this kdrama on wikipedia to verify that it is indeed one of its genre is romance.
Then moving on with the story, during the hostage situation, it was the hardest to watch, because I felt bored. I just carried on because of how good the actors were plus I'm curios how is gonna end so I endured it. It was bad because there's a loop, a cycle embedded into how the things are moving that made me lose my interest. An instance would be, when they finally thought of a way to get out of the dorm, someone, may it be internal or external, stops them from getting out or ruins the plan, and this cycle continued for how many episodes till we reach the last episode where they finally got out. The concept is very nice, gives a romeo and juliet vibe (because of how Sooho was the adoptive son of a high ranking man in the North and Yeongro is the daughter of the Chief of ANSP, which is an anti-communist organization), but the writers we're not able to execute the story well, leading into a cyclic, anti-climactic output.
Another thing is the amount of romance in this drama, which there's not much and that's why I'm disappointed. When I first saw Jisoo and Haein playing the role of the leads in this drama, their chemistry instantly clicked for me, making me look forward to the drama and its romance. I've expected a lot but the drama gave me a lot of stress instead of butterflies in my stomach due to the romantic scenes. The romance in this drama is kinda weird ig, sure it was love at first sight and that's the reason why Yeongro risked everything just to take care of Sooho, and they had cute interactions during that time, yeah lets give it to them but the thing is, what about the time when Sooho pointed a gun at Yeongro, I'm sure she'll be scared to death that she won't go near this man who nearly killed her but then the "romance" goes on despite of that happening which by the way I still enjoyed because of the chemistry its weird tbh. Plus if we're not gonna look at that (the thing about it being weird), the romance is lacking and too insta, like there's no deep meaning or intention to it. It felt like it was added to that other emotions can incorporated.
Last, would be the ending. It gave the impression that it was trying to be iconic due to how sad the ending was and that the female and male leads did not end up together kinda reminds me of scarlet heart. Aside from that though, after all of the stress and trauma that the story caused, the ending is underwhelming. Could've been better if Sooho was able to live and defect to the South or some kind of redemption arc for him because we witnessed how he was betrayed by his mom and adoptive father. After all, he was the focus of this drama, as we didn't get to see much of Jisoo his past, his struggles, his decisions, his life was basically presented but then he didn't get a happy ending, unfortunate.
Overall, I had high expectations with this drama, especially it was written and directed by the same people who worked with Sky Castle, which is one of my recommended drama, but unfortunately the story felt short and the romance didn't go well, leaving me disappointed.
Currently rewatching Our Beloved Summer and trying to finish it (the first time I watched it, I stopped at ep 13 because I don't want to finish it yet cuz its so good).
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed this very long and detailed review!
Till my next review~
