And you're right and you should say it... the miscommunication and lack thereof is what killed them.

As Brian tells Mel in 2.16 he thought they were good and that Justin knew he loved and cared about him, yeah he never verbally said it but through all his actions.

Brian didn't want to explicitly tell Justin to stay, he wanted him to do that of his own free will! But Justin wanted him to say something, anything, to give him a crumb so he would know he wanted him there!

As you say they spoke AT each other, with both of them waiting for the other to make a move, instead of laying their cards on the table and having a proper conversation with each other.

Eventually when they reunite in 3.08 we get Justin saying "Now I know what it is you want from me and what I can expect from you"

They finally get on the same page and are unstoppable for the remainder of season three, they are a team.

For sure!!

So it's one of those swap aus but the swaping really isn't cut and dry (except for one or two exceptions) so like Ao Lie swaps with Wukong in the sense that he's now the immortal mentor character

but anyways here's all the main (established) swaps:

Pigsy/Zhu Bajie ←→ DBK Tang/Tripy - PIF / Macaque PIF - Tang/Tripy / Pigsy/Zhu Bajie Macaque - Tang/Tripy / Wukong Wukong - Macaque Mei - MK MK - Red Son Red Son - Mei / MK Ao Lie - Wukong Sandy ←→ Nezha

So yeah the swaps are kind of messy but at the end of the day it works story wise. Also some things aren't quite like the show/jttw, like Wukong "takes" Macaque's place and dies but he stays dead and other stuff like that.

And when i write the fic i'm planning on making a go along series that will follow Wukong and his journey in the past to help explain how things ended up like during modern day with Mei

but enough about the swap stuff we want Mei. SO Mei has water based powers (no fire) and the staff (monkey king's staff only it's not monkey king's staff anymore it Ao Lie because Ao Guang gave Ao Lie the staff so he use it to protect himself on Ao lie's Journey to the west). The staff is semi-sentient (inspired by stick from Netflix's monkey king movie) and chose Mei as a master leaving it position guarding two very dangerous people. As for the water powers she inherited them from her dragon family (grandpa is dragon king of the west sea and all) though surprisingly her water powers are really strong which makes up for her lack of ability to turn into a dragon (in the eyes (some members) of her family.) Her water powers allow her to control bodies of water/Hydrokinesis (tho she struggles more with creating water/rain), breath underwater and handle deep sea pressures, have perfect bearing while at sea, and understand/control some sea creatures to a limited extent. Being in contact with water will also empower her to some extent. Despite all this it takes her a long time to unlock her hidden potential.

Moving on: Mei is best friends with Red Son and works for his parents at "Bull's Barbecue" where she's delivery girl (bc hey she swapped with mk). Her (kind of depressed) dad is Macaque who tells her a lot of stories about the heroes of old, but wait I hear you asking me "what happened to her parents?" well that maybe related to her power set...

but yeah there you go, a quick au Mei over view.

I may be the literal last person to get this but is the title of choices partially inspired by the “I knew a boy who made all the wrong choices” line

nah not really, it's more based on the first few lines which I wrote before I had a title, and those lines were kind of inspired by just the general fandom discourse around Regulus and whether or not he was redeemable (and therefore whether or not Jegulus was like, morally sound as a ship i guess)

this idea that the difference between whether we see someone as worthy of redemption can come down to whether we see their actions as choices or mistakes, and ultimately my belief that it's kind of a pointless debate, there's no real answer, what's a choice and what's a mistake is so subjective, and you see throughout the fic how James loses sight of what he used to think was very black and white (like if you go back to the first chapter where he confidently writes Regulus off as a bad person). ultimately you just decide whether you want to forgive someone or redeem them, it's not something inherently true about them

a mistake for one person (James) through someone else's eyes is a choice (i.e. Lily, Mary, Sirius)

Hey there...Just wanted to share with you that I was streaming Desperate Housewives, just an old crazy soapy show from after QAF, and s5 straight love interest for one of the main cast---BAM. Gale Harold. I was so shocked. His energy is so different from Brian and it's just weird. They didn't give the character enough depth for Gale to work with, so far anyway, he's like Generic Hot Guy. But also, like. Brian would hate this guy lol.

I can't recommend DH as a show I think you'd be into, but...Gale Howard! So great to see him in anything!

I did actually know about Gale's guest starring role in Desperate Housewives as Susan's boyfriend I think?

I had seen a few episodes back in the day, it was extremely soapy lol but it wasn't really my thing so I never followed it. I can't imagine just casually watching it and then... boom... there's Gale 😆

Yeah, it would feel weird watching him as someone else when you're experience is of him being Brian and he's known for that role. Given the type of show it was where it was beautiful women getting off with beautiful men, I'm not surprised that he was maybe playing just a pretty face (what a beautiful face it is).

I have such a low cringe threshold that I was never drawn to watching it as I imagined it would be that sort of thing. I have seen criminal minds and particles of truth the indie film he did which i enjoyed alongside other clips of shows. I know that's mostly his jam.

Also how can I forget that awful, campy, gay murder mystery he starred in where he was basically playing Brian, my god, I was dying watching it and for once was so grateful that he was barely in it. I surmised his rent was due and he needed the coin, which like I get it, I respect that.

It's a shame his tv/film work isn't that mainstream or popular as I'd love to watch him in more things.
