ok i need to go on a quick rant about x reader fics

so i like x reader. i've written a few x reader fics. i think it's fun and creative and a worthwhile artistic endeavor. but y'all have got to start properly labeling your x reader work.

i've read far too many fics that label themselves as "gender neutral reader", only to have the reader be called girlfriend/wife/wear a dress etc., or fics where the author doesn't mention the reader's gender at all in the description, only for the second paragraph to hit me with more she's and her's than i can count.*

if you want to write x f!reader, cool, all the more power to you, but tell the audience that it's going to be f!reader.

i am not even the littlest bit a woman, so if i start a fic that defaults to she/her pronouns and feminine titles without letting me know, that automatically excludes me (and a lot of other people) from the fic (not to mention makes me wildly dysphoric).

again, write all the x f!reader fic you want, write enough f!reader to fill libraries, but label it correctly.

*i know that none of these things are strictly "female" or "for women", and that neither clothes nor pronouns need to strictly adhere to someone's gender (hell, i'm a nonbinary person that exclusively uses he/him irl and dresses fairly masc), but to automatically choose descriptions that are most commonly associated with femininity and label them as "gender neutral" is, i think, transphobic. nonbinary people aren't "women lite". if you insist that these descriptions/terms are gender neutral, then i should be seeing just as many supposed gn!reader fics that default to having the reader wear suits and cologne.

tbh with kirby novels i think my personal breaking point was the samurai kirby one, which is also the most recent atm.

it's not translated yet but i know all of the plot details thanks to a good friend who actually knows a bit of japanese. and let's just say i'm very underwhelmed, even though i really should have seen this coming.

gonna hide the rest of the post because there will be spoilers about the novel as well as a bit of ranting about that specific book and kirby light novels as a whole that id imagine not everyone wants to see.

it's all the same trappings mie takase had for the past decade of doing these books repackaged under the new, admittedly flashy, coat of paint.

magolor, of course, is the main antagonist, again.

the main crux of the book is him manipulating everybody to meet his own ends, AGAIN. he even offers kirby to rule the world together or something, AGAIN. takase, you literally used this plot device last year in rtdl novelization, this is embarrassing.

once again we have an awfully boring original side-villain i don't remember the name or design of because has nothing cool or unique going for him. he's not even the true main villain as per usual with magolor stealing spotlight from him in the last second which is just, lol.

once again we have meta knight hogging the most attention in the book by having the most elaborate and "cool" side-plot yet ultimately it has no satisfying pay-off as meta is pretty useless in this book. he doesn't get to help kirby in the climax and the exposition dump he gives out kirby could've been just as well done by elfilin, really.

dedede is once again written as a rude brute that has terrible judge of character that can't seem to ever make the right choices or to even listen to his subordinates that have a leek of common sense. i genuinely don't know how are we supposed to root for this guy, once again, he's this frustrating to follow. only compelling piece of writing he got in this book is him being shocked that he has to capture kirby, hinting at his fondness for the guy, but that's about it.

elfilin and beast pack are sure there! leon sure can speak the same language as everyone else even if the rest of the beast pack still can't, even if this makes no sense here since the only reason he could speak is because of id-f86's mind control and possession.

their inclusion intrigued me at first but the way they were utilized ultimately went nowhere. and i can't say i enjoy the fact that elfilin is being paired with the beast pack as his "found family", when his dynamic with kirby and bandana dee is way more compelling.

so yeah, cool sounding book on paper, but execution is extremely frustrating and underwhelming. if mie takase managed to mess up this awesome concept for a book, even when literally everything was in it's favor of turning out to be one of the series stand-outs, then i literally have no faith in anything else coming next.

magoland novel i think will be the breaking point for most people, since it's announcement became pretty contentious even in japanese fanbase and those guys are usually pretty chill about everything kirby-related from my understanding. things are not looking good for fanbase reception of the novels i think.

i don't know how many people share my view, maybe i'm in minority, but personally i'm kind of tired of putting up with mie takase's frustrating tendency to stick to the same tired tropes she used way too many times at this point instead of attempting something genuinely fresh and new with this world and characters.

ngl, whilst bart is among the more tolerable characterisation in yj dark crisis where he’s not written as a total idiot, i feel like that’s just rewarding very bare minimum writing. You need to be completely oblivious if u can’t tell that an active part of the YJ fandom consists of different minorities. They are the same demographic as those who see the value in buying comics to support the writers/artists. Dark Crisis Young Justice has completely abandoned character and plot development in place of using very much loved characters by said poc/lgbtq+ etc communities as mouth pieces of poorly executed meta-commentary on related issues. It feels very uncomfortable to be “lectured” on all these things which I as a reader (and many others among the communities) are all too aware of. It’s giving borderline white saviour complex. Not cause that’s happening in the story, but because when we read it, it’s like we r talking to Meghan the author.

Which just comes to show the importance of elevating ppl from marginalised communities, both as writers/artists/authors but also the characters. None of which has happened in the series. Instead we see loved characters which r supposed to reflect the social sentiment of youth that matches the development through time being mischaracterised and re-purposed for a series which lacks the nuances and understanding of things that are a result of personal experience. The most blinding example of this is the treatment of Empress. Her only “feature” in the plot is being included among villains. It doesn’t matter if it’s a continuity thing or a result of Myx manipulation, that being her only mention and not being given some kind of proper development is backhanded.

Ultimately, DCYJ is just one of a long list of comics that i just didn’t enjoy or look much forward to, just like all these other old issues post 2000s. It’s nothing different. It’s a shame that all I see for so long is just fans complaining about everything. Not just because fans r naturally entitled (oops) but also because comic writers despite it being their literal jobs, don’t take the time to oh idk, treat the characters with respect.

Anyway, the Flash run seem to be doing okay recently and 1 Minute War seems like an interesting concept that i’m actually looking forward to for once. Young Justice Targets has also been good and i can’t wait for the next issue (to those who r interested, did y’all see how everyone thought the cover was Bart just for it be wally, L lol) . I don’t hate everything lol and ultimately i just like to see some decent plot and characterisation.

I don’t know why I’ve just noticed (or maybe re-noticed but am more bothered by now) the profile of Carrillo in Narcos: The Art and Making of the Show refers to him as a ‘Colombian Army Colonel’.

Erm that’s not actually true lol. The CNP isn’t part of the military, even though they use similar ranks and fall under the Ministry of Defense.

I just gotta put this out there! Cause there’s something that’s bothering me:

In the Japanese Cherry Magic they moved into Adachi’s apartment even though Kurosawa’s was bigger!! And closer to their job!! Like why would you do that!? It’s not a smart move! And yeah you can say that Kurosawa wanted to be surrounded by all of Adachi’s things and live in his space or whatever. That’s a romantic answer and I guess I can accept that but c’mon my guys make some logical decisions too! Lol 😅 maybe move into a different place altogether that can actually fit you both comfortably!

And now in the Thai Cherry Magic they make the same mistake of moving into the wrong place!! I mean maybe Karan’s condo is closer to their job and more fancy and luxurious but Achi owns a whole house!?!? Actual land is in his name!? Why wouldn’t you use that!? You’re gonna give that up!?!? In this economy!?!? I mean idk how the housing market is in Thailand but here in the U.S. it’s damn near impossible to afford a house these days! And now Achi’s just not even using his!

Cause no way is he selling the house yet, their relationship is still developing. I mean they’re together and we the audience know they’re endgame but any reasonable person would keep the land just in case they break up and they need to move back.

But if he is selling the house, would the condo sell for more? 🤔 Maybe the house is worth more and they’re gonna sell that instead? Maybe a whole house is too big for the two of them? Maybe Achi already feels like it’s too much for him to maintain and he’d rather get rid of it. That’s understandable, just not at this point in their relationship, not yet.

And the whole romantic angle can be argued here too like Karan wants to see Achi in his bed like he’s always imagined or whatever, but again this should be a logical decision lol.

Or maybe the explanation here is that Karan’s place isn’t a condo and it’s a rented apartment so they just have to wait until the rental contract expires to fully move into Achi’s house 🤔

Idk man, I’m convincing myself more and more now that maybe moving into Karan’s condo is a good choice 😅 but I stand by the fact that moving into Adachi’s apartment was the wrong move! 👏🏽

Anon with the "GW not bad for Faerghus" ask. I couldn't read your full response bc your other blog is private but yes, there are people who say that the Kingdom is not in a bad position. Mostly those who think Claude's "scheme" will force Edelgard to end the war bc he could ally with the "still strong" Kingdom to crush her if she didn't, and that GW is some kind of "golden ending" for the three nations. Some even argue that Claude freed Faerghus/Dimitri from the Church's chains - or whatever.

I don't know if you saw my post where I mentioned you should be able to read it now, but if you didn't you should still be able to. I think I switched off the setting for that because I didn't realize it would prevent you from seeing the whole ask. :o

That's wild to hear though that people think the Kingdom isn’t in a bad position. They've lost a lot of military power regardless of whether or not they lose influence. Like I mentioned in the previous ask, it's basically up to Claude whether or not they retain their influence (regardless of what Petra wants in GW or what she thinks she knows about Fodlan lol). If they do, they still have no military might. If Sreng invades they're fucked if Claude doesn't treat them like a vassal state of Leicester and help them under the pretext that Faerghus is now part of Leicester.

In other words, they’re at best a vassal state and otherwise left alone, and at worst they’re left to rot.

Technically, Claude could try to get them to help him fight against the Empire, sure, but they won’t have the military might to help him very much, and like I mentioned in the last ask, the chances of it working are slim. Gautier won’t help and I can say that with pretty much full certainty, and if Gautier won’t help then Fraldarius probably won’t either (remember, it’s Felix who makes the final decisions now and not Rodrigue, so if Felix sees Sylvain is still upset about his father and won’t help the Alliance because of what they did, Felix won’t help them either. Felix is extremely emotional about his friends - especially his childhood friends. If you fuck with them then he’s going to fuck with you).

So now, Claude can either decide to try to force them to help, which would invoke another fight between him and Faerghus and cause more deaths, or he’ll just have to accept that he’s not getting help/a lot of help from Faerghus (I detailed it more in the other ask, so hopefully you can access the rest of it now!).

Post GW, Faerghus won’t be helping anyone in a war, I can tell you that. It’d take everything they had to keep Sreng out and to fix any damages from the Alliance’s attack. Even if Claude called on them, they just... couldn’t help.

Unfortunately even in GW they imply that Dimitri is “freed” of the Church, so of course most people take that at face value and don’t look any deeper than what’s told to them. Dimitri isn’t really free or not free of the Church. He was never in a situation where he was being controlled by them. They’re on friendly terms, but that’s really it. Rhea doesn’t tell Dimitri what to do or how to run Faerghus. It’s just that the people there are very devout because of their good relations with the Church and because Rhea helps Faerghus when they need help. It’s give and take for them just like any political situation. Faerghus isn’t in a bad position because they’re around. They’ve only really benefitted from the Church if anything, because Rhea doesn’t personally involve herself with their political decisions.

The whole “we have to free Dimitri from them” thing sounded more to me like Claude needing to find something “good” to hang onto to excuse himself for making those choices. As it was he was grasping at straws to justify their invasion to begin with. He already didn’t have a good pretext for attacking them. Saying “we’re freeing you” is like... his lowkey way of saying he needs to make himself feel better about it, because Dimitri didn’t need his or anyone’s help to begin with. If they were left alone, Faerghus would’ve been fine. Edelgard in GW is struggling on both sides of the war, so if Faerghus hadn’t been attacked by the Alliance, I can guarantee the Empire would’ve just lost.

Really, if Claude teamed up with the Kingdom in the first place and took down the Empire, they would’ve spared themselves more lives and bloodshed in the long run. Claude caused even more battles to happen and got more innocent people killed. I think by the end of the game he did figure out that he made the wrong decisions, but by then it was too late and he couldn’t take back what he did so he needed to find ways to justify all of it to himself.

I just wish they actually came out and said that though instead of running around it in circles while trying to make us believe he actually believes that the Kingdom was just better off without the Church. They weren’t doing badly with the Church involved or not involved. It was the invasion that hurt them. If Claude skipped around Fhirdiad and killed Rhea, regardless of plot or context or anything, just like, imagine he didn’t invade Faerghus and they just passed through and killed Rhea, then Faerghus’ situation might get a little more complicated for inheritance, but I think just with Dimitri’s temperament that they’d be able to stave off any legitimacy issues pretty quick. That is, people liked him in power so the populace would still be in favor of having him as king whether the Church was there or not. Rodrigue was well liked, so he’d be a perfect public figure to calm down any potential anxiety and worry with the loss of the Church. They could’ve actually made it without the Church, but it was mostly the invasion that really hurt the country and dug them into a hole for the future.

i think one of the funniest very small things in persona 5 is the akechi featherman stuff. like i'm 90% sure him being a featherman fan specifically is just popular fancanon instead of anything concrete AS FAR AS I KNOW as far as i know. (if anyone knows where the fanbase got that let me know lol.) but what we do get is a hilarious amount of like. parallels.

every once in a while when featherman comes on on the tv in leblanc it'll hit you with something like "Red Eagle is crushed after Black Falcon's shocking betrayal" (10/29 in game. aka the day sae's palace becomes available)......... there's also "I want a love so strong it'll bring me back from the dead!" (or something similar i lost my screenshot rip) which is extremely probably not on purpose (because/and probably not added in royal) but did make me yell. because guess who very literally did that. like. textually did that. LOL. god i wish someone wrote down all the tv dialogue somewhere

and then there's the most obvious most ridiculous most insane thing that atlus added in royal for Some Reason in the form of featherman seekers which ok if you haven't played it just look on the wiki. because again. yeah. why did they add it though. this has been bugging me for so long why did they make the deliberate choice to add it in royal. like i love it it rules it makes me feel emotions. including confusion. but yeah.um. that's akechi alright. bonus points for his dlc outfit to also be gray pigeon like it's not meant to be subtle (also: rude of him to be both gray AND black. so greedy)

and well, it makes sense with all the stuff with robin and proof of justice and the arcade in royal where he wanted to be a hero as a kid and Hold on a second. you know who else did the red/black featherman thing. that's right. the legendary canon gay tatsu/jun from persona 2. Sarabi was my very first muse on tumblr and when I arrived to TLK rpc (that I was surprised was relatively active), I was welcomed with open arms by @sixba​ , @kingmxfasa-a​ and @majordomo-zazu​. We were canons, with rapid fire replies for hours at a time, the flaming dumpster dash commentary threads and short lived AU threads for ridiculous situations. 

Our little family expanded (although I might have this timeline slightly off and I think most of them were established before I was), and @wisemandrill​ and @handsomethrowrug​ joined our ragtag, Lion King obsessed bunch. Chaos, as well as wholesome and strong storytelling ensued.

Roleplaying has been my safe haven for a long time. I started on FanFiction (and still roleplay there), and ended up here, discovering a world of adding icons, group threads, memes, asks, and sometimes obnoxiously formatted tags. 

I’m a person that struggles with change. These people felt like my friends, and due to no fault of their own (I blame life and all of its unpredictable factors), I've lost a lot of partners. Sometimes it stings to look back at, and I still sorely miss those I used to write with everyday. It feels different on my dash, less seamless in a way. I love my writing partners now but I thrive in a smaller circle and losing those in that smaller circle I had is hard for me. I’m very grateful I still have a very strong muse for Sarabi and maintain good relationships with my partners, but I’ll always miss those who aren’t here with us in TLK rpc anymore. 

And it might be because I've not been as consistently active as I once was when I started but I miss the silly headcanons and wild dash commentary, haha. bring back the lighthearted aspect to the rpc ;v;

i love being told that i’m not really bisexual bc of how i dress/look 😃

#i went out on friday with two girls from one of my classes n the topic of our sexualities came up #and they both said they were bi n they looked at me and said ‘you are staright right?’ #n i said ‘no lol i’m bi’ #n they said that there’s no way that i’m bi bc i dress like a straight girl n have the vibe~~ of a straight girl #that i must be bi-curious not actually bi n i was like 🧍🏻‍♀️ #sorry do u want my sex life history?? like i don’t owe u some explanation as to why i’m actually bi.. but also like i went to catholic #school.. all of my friends are straight and i didn’t feel comfortable telling them i’m bi until senior year.. my parents don’t know i’m bi #so i had/still have to act a certain way so they don’t Figure It Out #do i have to walk around with a big sign on my forehead that says ‘ACTUALLY I’M BISEXUAL I JUST LIKE DRESSING THIS WAY’?? #idk it was just really invalidating n it made me sad and uncomfortable in myself :(( #sorry i needed to get this off my chest #keeping up with tina
