Anyway to follow up on those last two posts because I am Still Annoyed and also this has been brewing for months, unless you can PROVE INCONTROVERTIBLY that "your side" never burnt a single person of the "other side" at the stake, I will not accept your premise of "Evil Catholics and Morally Irreproachable Protestants"/"Evil Protestants and Morally Irreproachable Catholics". Until and unless you can admit that yeah, actually, people in your own denomination are fallible and can be corrupted and also people (not necessarily Christians) have used your denomination as an excuse to perpetrate horrific acts, I am not going to take your attempts at debate seriously.
For all the "Catholics have changed the Bible!" "Protestants aren't reading the true Bible!" I'm not convinced any of you have read Paul's epistles on how to deal with disagreements with other Christians. Because it's not, in fact, calling other denominations Literally Satan.
Or, you know, to get historical, torturing them.

Apologies if this questions sounds stupid or ignorant, but I'm genuinely trying to educate myself. Can Jews be Jewish *and* a different race, so does a Jewish identity supersede another racial identity? Just wondering because a lot of Ashkenazi Jews I know (in real life or online) push back against the idea that they are white. I've heard European Jews say that they are not considered white, do not have white privilege, etc. so they are not white. But I've also seen a lot of Jews of color identify with both their Jewish identity and their "racial" identity (ravenreveals on Instagram explains how she identifies as Black *and* Jewish, and one of my friends identifies as an Asian Jew). So is there a reason many European (Ashkenazi?) Jews don't identify as white/identify as only Jewish? I'm sorry if this is offensive in any way, this isn't my intent :)
Sorry it took me so long to answer, I am swamped with asks haha
Yes, it's possible to be Jewish and a different race, as Judaism isn't a race, but an ethnoreligion, or even better described as a tribal nation.
Now, first I'm going to push back on you equating European with Ashkenazi. Ashkenazi is a specific term referring to Jews whose ancestors settled in the Rhine valley after the Roman expulsion from Judea. Many of these Jews eventually migrated eastward to Eastern Europe and Westward to British Isles, while others stayed in the Rhine valley region. But not all Jews whose ancestors settled in Europe are Ashkenazi.
There are Sephardi Jews, obviously, whose ancestors settled in the Iberian peninsula following the Roman expulsion, and then later migrated to North Africa, Northwestern Europe, Eastern Europe, and West Asia following the Spanish and Portugese inquistions.
There are also Italki Jews in Italy and Romaniote Jews in Greece, all of which are unique communities of Jews whose ancestors settled in Europe and who are not Ashkenazi.
Additionally, not all Ashkenazi Jews are racialized as white. Ashkenazi does not refer to your race, but rather who your ancestors are and/or what community traditions you follow. There are Ashkenazi Jews of every race.
The reason why lots of what-you-perceive-as-white Jews don't identify as white is because Judaism precedes the modern constructs of race (yes, race is a construct, not an immutable science) and because whiteness is highly subjective and fluid, just as non-whiteness is. Because race is a construct, which race a person is perceived as varies by where they are and by which people they are around.
Jewish "whiteness" is also conditional- and as Jews we don't like to leave ourselves vulnerable to shifting statuses. Jewish "white-passing-ness" can also be a tool of violence, either by denying the racial reality of antisemitism, or by being 'proof' that Jews are shape-shifting inflitrators of the white race. Hitler's Final Solution was total extermination precisely because he feared many Jews would pass as white and spread their Jewish blood among the Aryans, and so the total extermination of Jews was deemed as necessary, like one would exterminate a parasite.
This of course doesn't mean that no Jew has ever had access to the privilege afforded to whiteness. In the post-Holocaust era, many Jews have tried to successfully assimilate into whiteness to access even a little bit of privilege in order to protect themselves. I'm not going to lie and say that if I was pulled over at a traffic stop, my lighter complexion wouldn't give me more grace at the hands of the police officers than someone with darker skin would. Because yes, sometimes I am racialized as white and therefore access the privilege of whiteness.
But that doesn't mean I don't feel deeply uncomfortable when I'm filling out a form and the only options for race and even ethnicity are "white", "black", "hispanic", and "asian". Because while at the end of the day I'll check "white", it's only because I don't want to be accused of fraud (even though Middle Eastern or just Jewish would fit me better, but that's not an option). But that's just me. Some Jews are fine calling themselves "white Jews". Two Jews three opinions and all.
Someone introduced me to the phrase "racialized white/black/etc" a few years ago, and I think it makes much more sense. Because race is entirely dependent on perception and how others racialize you. I am not White, but sometimes I am racialized as white. Other times, I am racialized as "not-quite-white-but-we-don't-know-how-to-categorize-you-so-we're-just-going-to-try-and-guess-and-ask-wildly-invasive-questions".
At the end of the day, call Jews what they want to be called, and don't try and push labels on us. If a Jew doesn't want to be called white, don't call them white. Because race, ethnicity, religion, and all that is complicated, and Judaism predates all of that, so naturally Jews are going to have mixed feelings about it all.

tagged by @galadrieljones thank you!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
57
2. what's your total AO3 word count?
197,188
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Dragon Age, Uprooted (Naomi Novik), Wayfarer IF, Final Fantasy XIV.
only the latter two in the past year.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
Temporal Arrangements (Dragon Age Inquistion, Solavellan, E) Time Travel canon-divergent AU
Home (Uprooted - Naomi Novik, Sarkan/Agnieszka, T) Canon coda
Ar Lath Ma (Dragon Age: Inquisition, Solavellan, T)  Post canon fix it fix
Pies (Uprooted - Naomi Novik, Sarkan/Agnieszka, M ) post happily ever after domestic fluff
Temerity (Dragon Age: Inquisition, Solavellan, E) post canon enemies/not really enemies bdsm smut
5. do you respond to comments?
I try to respond to all of them! I love getting comments and when I comment I love getting replies on comments myself.
I may forget though, and I'm sorry! I love comments
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
God Slayer (Solavellan, T) I really like this one.
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have happy endings, though I really like them with a tinge of uncertainty or bittersweetness.
the most straight up happily ever after is probably Hay, (Solavellan, E) which is just a very self-indulgent little happy fic.
8. do you get hate on fics?
I don't think I ever had?
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
I do write smut! I love writing smut, it's such a good challenge and it makes me happy. I love characterization through smut - and it's such an interesting way to do characterization. That said, sometimes I'm just thirsty and I want to see two characters smash. I'm not pretentious about it. I'm here to have fun and I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to read or write porn.
I write all sort of smut? I do love playing with power dynamics in sex scenes.
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
The closest I've written is Comfort, a Solavellan vampire fic, which uses some BtVS lore? It's not crazy tho!
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I know of either. I think I'd be a little apprehensive.
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
nope. I'm not sure how i'd do that? writing feels like a solitary thing, even when asking for feedback and input.
The closest is a shared timeline/ideas where my OC interact with another person's OC and both of us wrote in the same continuity.
14. what's your all-time favourite ship?
hmmm. Once I've not written for and probably never will, Spike/Buffy.
if it's writing for, I'd say it's still Solavellan.
15. what's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I think if I want to finish it, I will? I have some old WIPs, but the reason I'm not finishing them is lack of want? Do or do not kinda thing I think.
16. what are your writing strengths?
I've told I've had good pacing. I think I write pretty good smut.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Descriptions? I tend to not want want to describe things. I'm also not great at moving characters through space - he went to the door, he looked out etc? I tend to slip into passive voice when writing characters moving around unless it's combat action or sex.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
nope.
"Hello," he said in Spanish
is perfectly valid.
A few short words like endearments - where the speaker would use a specific term in a different language than what's spoke is fine. Items that are specific and not translatable and would typically be borrowed words in a different language are fine too (kimono. computer. kayak)
19. first fandom you wrote for?
Dragon Age
20. favourite fic you've written?
This is SO hard. I was just looking at some old fics I really really love?
but I think right now, I'll pick my newest fic, Passing Through (wol/Tansui, E) because I love it very much and I had so much fun with it.

Can you link to AOC “indigenous” awakening? Actually I only seeing millennials and zoomers call themselves indigenous and not by tribe.
Also she Puerto Rican thus her native roots would very likely by Taino? Fucking I might have Italian roots because I’ll be acting up like Columbus…
Tumblr media
There's from the post and probably also the section you were looking for.
PR bit you mentioned is what her deal with claiming all these identities is, don't think she's had a genetic study done but during the Spanish Inquisition many Jewish people packed up and crossed the Atlantic and that would be why there's these weird little Jewish communities all over Latin America.
I don't think anyone expected that part of the Spanish Inquistion.
NBC piece, headline could make it clearer that it was someone in the crowd that said 'I knew it' couldn't have made it any less clear at least.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could play with semantics and say Sephardic Jews aren't originally from the Iberian peninsula they're from Israel, but that's splitting hairs at this point.
Feel like if she had ever actually looked into what she's talking about beyond stories and quickie bits of information on the internet she would know enough to use the words "converso" and "Judaizantes" or anglo equivalent.
But that could just be me, included the NBC bit just in case,

Their Blood, Her Pain
One day in the Spanish township of Ondasa a young merchant boy named Pepe Vasquez
went walking in the woods one night where he saw something scarred him for life.
He sees an altar and three women chanting and tieing four children from the orphanage to stakes.
The three women were Belladonna, Medea and Morgana Diaconu, gypsies that traveled to Spain from Romania.
Belladonna:" Morgana take this dagger and slit that boy's wrist. Medea collect the blood and set it on the alter and sa the spell"
Morgana:" Dearest Belladonna you look into the spellbook and find the spell to summon demons on the earth"
Medea:" Take this blood as our living sacrifice"
Morgana:" Take there bones as the symbol of flesh"
Belladonna:" We ask you to seek revenge for those who tortured our family"
Pepe steps on a twig and it snaps. The Diaconu sisters saw Pepe. Pepe took off running through the woods backtoward the village. He runs into the village cathedral to tell the priests what he had seen.
The priests sit there around a table and have the following conversation with Pepe Vasquez.Father Miguel Flores sits across froom Pepe. There were five other people there. FatherRyan Gabriel, Reverend Mother Maria Francis, Friar Brian ortega, sister Maria Catherine and Father Diego Santiago. He told them what he saw and they screamed.
Father Flore:" Pepe how many children did you see out in the woods?"
Pepe:" i saw two children from the orhanage a boy about the age of 8 named Raul Chapuis and the girl from the orphanage was about the age of 9 named Ginger Espinoza.
ReverendMother Maria Francis:" Pepe dear child what were the sister's doing to the children?"
Pepe:" They were chanting and one of them had this bowl. There was a girl being tied to a stake and the boy was tortured and his blood was flowing into a bowl"
Friar Ortega:" Where are the bodies and the alter?"
Pepe:" I found them about 200 yards in the woods. I know that the children that were murdered were missing from the orphanage"
Reverend Mother Maria Francis:" I'm going to get the constable to take his statement"
Constable De La Rosa:" Pepe I want you to tell me what you saw in the woods"
Pepe proceeds to tell the constable everything including what Morgana, Belladonna and Medea Diaconu had done which included when they drank the poor children's blood and burned the bodies on their crosses.
The constable was disgusted with the horriffic details of the event of that morning that he ordered that the sisters should be found questioned then tortured to death.
The soilders scoured the village and woods as well as the surrounding villages for the Diaconu sisters.
Three days had past since the events had past when six soilders found them hiding in a marina cave. They were immediately taken to the constable who then held a an Inquistion court.
Judge Cardnial Santiago:" Belladonna tell me exactly what you were doing in the woods with your sisters and those two children were and what you were doing to them."
Belladonna (looks at them all and says):" I was setting up a ritual with my sisters involving the two orphans who would never be missed."
Judge:" Belladonna that is all for now. Constable bring me Medea please."
Constable De La Rosa takes Belladonna to her cell and gets Medea and takes her to the court.
Judge:" Medea I want you to tell us what happened on the day in question."
Medea(Clears her throat and says):" I was asked to collect the orphan children's blood in this ceremonial sacrifice bowl. She then said the spell put the blood on our foreheads. We drank a little of the blood retreated to the cave."
Judge:" Senor Inqusitor make sure you have been writing down all of the testimony that way we can deliberate and choose the punishment that is fit for those three sisters."
Inquisitor:" Your Honor I have been making notes as well as writing down the testimony"
Judge:" Excellent constable take Medea to her cell and make sure she speaks to no one."
The constable took Medea back to her cell making sure that doesn't converse with any of her sisters. He then went to Morgana's cell and took her to go see the judge and the Inquisitor.
Judge:" Morgana we know what you and your sisters have done What will you plead?"
Morgana:" I admit that I kidnapped and tortured to death those two orphan children. I accept what punnishment that you bestow on my weary soul. For i know where Im going. Lucifer is waiting on me."
The judge looks at the Inquisitor and then says :" Morganna Diaconu I hereby state that you and your sisters will first be tortured to death then burned on a stake.
Judge:" Constable have yout men build 3 upside down crosses one per sister. Then take them and pull their skin off of them and then attachthen to the crossesupsidedown. The gather somewood and add their skin to the kindling, Then light the crosses.
Morgana(screaming):" I am not sorry that I did what I did. I curse you and all of your houses. By the Full Moon you all will die. They were lit on fire. Five days later the whole village was found dead.

Hi Eitan. I sent you asks before and thanks for always being so awesome with answering questions and sharing great perspective and information.
My question is kind of 3 separate questions I guess…
I will start with saying I’m a convert that has distant sefardic ancestry. There are also other interesting things with my family and ancestry but would prefer not to talk about it publicly… either way I think my point is myself and my family feel a sense of connection with the Jewish people that is difficult to articulate.
So my questions…
1. Recently I had for the first time a dream where I was being targeted by antisemitism, like a dream where someone was trying to harm and attack me because I was visibly Jewish. Is this a common experience for people who are born and raised Jewish? Do you have any advice or word of support?
2. A member of my synagogue frequently does things that make me uncomfortable, but in particular she will often bring up in conversation that I’m a convert. It is different if I chose to share or talk about it but I know tradition is that you are not supposed to remind someone… do you have any thoughts for this? I am trying to not be upset and think there’s no reason to be ashamed or keep a secret but for some reason it does bother me…
3. In terms of head covering… okay so I have a lot of sensory issues, I hope maybe you can understand. Clothes has been the hardest thing for me since I was a child. So. The head coverings for men are challenging. I tried kippah. I prefer the Bukharian kippah but it’s still a little hard for me. I know that scarves are traditionally for women but I wonder if they would be more comfortable. I see when I read about history beautiful old photos of men with headscarves but I feel self-conscious to wear something like that. Do you have any suggestions? Also I am trans male if it is important.
Sorry for saying so much I hope it’s okay… I understand if you can’t answer everything but thank you for your time and help!
Unfortunately dreams about antisemitism and antisemitic attacks are common in the Jewish experience. I've had too many dreams about the Holocaust, the Spanish Inquistion, the Roman exile, and modern antisemitism myself. There is a prayer many say during the Shema prayers before going to sleep that is a prayer for protection against nightmares. Here is the text:
"Blessed are You, Adonoy, our God, King of the Universe, Who causes the fetters of sleep to fall upon my eyes, and slumber upon my eyelids. And illuminates the pupil of the eye. May it be Your will, Adonoy, my God and God of my fathers to make me lie down in peace, and to raise me (again) to good life and peace, and grant me my portion in Your Torah, make us accustomed to do Your commands, and let us not become accustomed to sin, Do not bring us into the grasp of sin, Do not cause us to be tested, or brought to disgrace. May I be ruled by the Good Inclination and let me not be ruled over by the Evil Inclination. Protect me from Satan, from an evil mishap and from illnesses. Let my thoughts not terrify me— nor evil dreams or evil fancies (disturb me), and may my bed be perfect before You. And light up my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death, Blessed are You, Adonoy, Who illuminates the whole world with His glory."
Maybe saying this Bracha before bed will help you with your nightmares.
2) That member of your synagogue is behaving completely inappropriately. It is forbidden to remind a convert that they converted or to make them feel unwelcome. There's no reason for you to be ashamed of converting, but the details of your conversion are only yours to share and no one should be pressing you about it. I wish I could help you aside from suggesting you talk to the Rabbi of the congregation about this person.
3) If you don't feel comfortable wearing head coverings, you don't have to. If you want to wear a headscarf to fulfil the commandment to cover you head, Jewish men have worn headwraps in history so you have a historical tradition backing you up. The commandment to cover your head isn't about the specific type of headcovering, whatever works for you works. I'm a trans man myself, and autistic, but my sensory issues are like...I need something on my head so I'm the opposite. If a headwrap works for you, then it works for you, although in modern times it is associated more with women, so you might want to keep that in mind in terms of how you're percieved. Things that also work for headcoverings are any hats, honestly, so if those work better for you...also if a Bukharian kippah works a little better, then you might want to get one that's more lightweight and loose if the tightness and/or weight is the issue.
A scrub/surgical cap might also work better, as it's looser and has an adjustable band so you can control how snug it fits on your head.
Tumblr media
Any headcovering can fulfil the commandment to cover your head, and a scrub cap might just work for you. There's all kinds of different prints available if you look for them, and they look similar enough to a kippah that no one would bat an eye.
Hope this helps! :)

CONFESSION:
I made a confession about me and my moms experiences playing Inquistion. Now that a cousin of mine is staying at my family’s house for the reunion this March. Considering it’s been almost ten years since I last seen him when he graduated high school before he signed up for the Marines. He wants to reconnect- he offered to play BioWare games with me(and now feels ancient because of how long he’s been away).
What cracks me up- is this muscular, dog-tag wearing, Texan marine gets as giddy as an anime school girl when he flirts with Josephine. (Apprenatly my family has a type) He calls her a “Spanish angel who deserves the world” and does everything in his power to woo her. Even after seeing Mass Effect’s hot aliens he runs back to her saying Liara and Tali can’t compare.
On a serious note, he comes from a side of my family that is- LESS than progressive in there beliefs. I still love them even if I find what they say disgusting. After he’s gotten to know Iron Bull, Dorian, and Josephine before I told him about there sexulities. The three were his favorite characters, Iron Bull because “he’s just a bro” and Dorian cause how he makes him laugh. He won’t be dawning a “Straight Ally” title anytime soon but I noticed a lot of positive change in him after playing Dragon Age and Mass effect.
His pride won’t allow him to admit it, but I noticed how much more willing he is to see NOT straight people as people now. Especially after he watched Dorian’s

So other day on warhammer discord sever we got talked about Monty Python jokes in 40K.
Obvious one is the “Spanish Inquistion” but I had a silly dumb idea and I dedcied you know what F*** it.
This is basiclaly Greyfax/ Celestine Crack Fic (crack might not be right word). And Yvraine/Guilliman (if you squint)
Basiclaly silly wLw fanfic
Saint Celestine, Yvraine and Roboute Guilliman are at a fancy ball.
Yvraine: Celestine, didn't Katarinya say she would be coming to the Emperor's day ball?.
Celestine: She did but work called her away.
Roboute: Having an inquisitor as your partner must be hard.
Celestine: Actually, not that bad. While we have been dating me and Kathirne have a new power she that really helps with our relationship at long distance/
Roboute: ohh?
Celestine: You see while I was preparing for tonight, I looked at myself in the mirror and said “Oh my I certainly wasn’t expecting an Imperial Inquistion?” It’s been about 2 hours since then.
Roboute: I don’t get it.
Celestine: Give it a minute.
Yvraine, suddenly turns her head to the nearest window then looks at the food laden table behind Roboute
Yvraine: Celestine, sweetie you may want to take a step back.
Celestine takes a step back.
Roboute: Why would she need to do that?
As soon as he finishes, the window explodes as Inquistor Greyfax rides in on a motorbike.
Greyfax: NOBODY EXPECTS THE IMPERIAL- LOOK OUT!
Greyfax crashes into Roboute, the collison sending them into the table. food and drink are sent flying, splattering everyone present, expect for Yvraine and Celestine.
Greyfax stumbles out of the crash. Her amour is covered in a mixture of food, drink and some patches of dried blood.
Greyfax: Hey honey. Look I know I said I couldn’t make it but you know couple hours ago whilst fighting a witch I just really wanted to see you. So I finished them up, left my acolytes to clean up, took one their motorbikes and made a B-line straight here. Well not quite B line I got you these *Reaches to her side* shit where are they?
Roboute hands her a bouquet of flowers. Bent and damaged by the crash
Greyfax: Thanks. Brough you these * now seeing the flowers are damaged*… Ohh… they got a little roughed up. I ummm…
Celestine steps forward and kisses her.
