Leona Kingscholar

You were currently being pulled into the arms of none other than the Prince of Afterglow, Leona Kingscholar. That wasn't particularly new - ever since you two started dating, Leona seemed to have a newfound love of cuddling you. It was pretty cute, actually. He really did act like a big cat sometimes.

Today, though, he seemed especially tired. He was always a bit tired - you knew why, and it wasn't a pretty story, but you had to digress - today, he seemed even more tired than usual.

It made sense. He had to pull an all-nighter yesterday catching up on paperwork for the Spelldrive club, something you still couldn't believe he'd actually done instead of just throwing the job onto Ruggie.

Still, he looked just about ready to collapse. You were getting pretty concerned.

"Wanna go to bed?" You asked, taking the opportunity to card your fingers through his hair. For once, he didn't try to hide the way he leaned into the touch. He pouted, though, and at that moment, you thought your heart was going to explode.

Leona, calm, always composed Leona was pouting at you. He looked almost like a kid right now.

You couldn't help the hearty laugh that escaped you. Leona huffed at you, angling his face in a way that made his dark circles much too prominent.

"Really, though," you said. "Get some sleep. I'll be here in the morning."

Leona mumbled something.

"What was that?"

"Come with me, herbivore," he said, more mumbled, and though it wasn't visible, you could tell he was blushing. The way he couldn't meet your eyes said it all.

He was surprisingly honest today.

He probably took your silence for teasing or the like, because he turned away with a huff.

"You can," he said. "I don't really care either way."

You smiled. It was genuine, not an ounce of teasing. You weren't going to do that, now when it was already so hard for him to be more vulnerable with you. It was overjoying just to know he was being honest.

"I'll take you up on that offer," you said, and that poorly hidden smile made every moment you'd have to spend listening to him snore worth it.

Azul Ashengrotto

Azul was working this evening. That was fine - he'd literally taken you out on a date so custom-tailored to you it made you wonder how exactly he knew you so well yesterday, you weren't going to complain about his performance as your beloved.

But he seemed tired. No, no, that was an understatement. He seemed like he was about to pass out any moment now. And yet, by some miracle, he was still working.

You had to perform well has his beloved, too. And that meant taking care of him when he was ill - or in this case, so tired he might as well have been.

"Azul?" you called out, and the thirty seconds it took him to process your voice and turn to look at you said it all. "Don't you think you should go to bed?"

After a few seconds, he shook his head blearily.

"'Can't," he mumbled, his words slurred. "Work."

You vaguely understood what he was trying to say. He couldn't sleep, he had work to do.

But it didn't seem like he was going to get much done in his current state other than pass out.

"Sleep, please," you said, and you were honestly shocked at how gentle your voice sounded. Being in love with Azul really did things to you, huh?

"But the money!" he whined, and you couldn't help but laugh. The money? That's what he cared about right now? How much money did he actually think he'd lose from sleeping? "'Want money."

This was the love of your life. This man.

Seeing you laugh, he huffed, cheeks bright red.

"Stop laughing," he said, pouting. "Ugh. 'S why you have no money."

Cold, Azul. Cold. Even in his current state, he had to remind you of your painfully broke reality.

"Then you'll have to help me make some, then." You said, trying to appeal to his love of rambling about finance. "Why don't you teach me? We can go to your room while we're at it, more privacy that way."

He nodded shakily, cheeks still a bit pink.

"I'm very-" he cut himself off, trying to pronounce somthing. "'Nevolent. Be-ne-vo-lent. I'll help you."

"Thank you so much," you said, and he followed you to his room.

You couldn't wait to see how embarrassed he'd get in the morning.

"I said what?"

"Yeah, and your face was so red! You kept slurring over your words, too. You couldn't even say 'benevolent'! Isn't that, like, your signature word?"

"Stop teasing me already!"

*aggressively leans into the mic* ALRIGHT, WHICH ONE OF YOU TWST DEVS DECIDED TO PUT THE GUY WITH THE BIGGEST CHEST NEXT TO TWO OF THE FLATTEST GUYS IN THE WHOLE CAST 🤡 That poor belt looks like it's going to burst, it truly is the strongest soldier of Magift/Spelldrive Club... I'm going to have to avoid scrolling on socials for like the next week or else I just know I'm going to be clocked by fan art after fan art of Leona in uniform 🪦

BUT HEY, IT'S OKAY, IT'S FINE, IT'S FIIIIINE. Let's compare the club outfits of Leona against his teammates to distract me from thinking about rolling for L*ona!

Many fans already predicted Leona's new hairstyle would be something that kept his hair out of his face, similar to what we see for Epel and Ruggie. This makes sense, as you would not want anything obscuring your line of sight if you're going to be playing a sport. I like that they differentiated Leona's ponytail from the one he wears in his PE Uniform card! In his new Clubwear, Leona's bangs are slicked back to not get in his way, and the ponytail is much higher. The PE Uniform ponytail still has his usual bangs and the ponytail is very low.

Around Leona, Epel, and Ruggie's necks appears to be some kind of... cord???? (I'm not familiar with sporting gear, so I don't know what the terminology for this piece is. Sorry!!) There is a different number of golden notches, and I wonder if this corresponds with their year level since Epel (the first year) has one, Ruggie (the second year) has two, and Leona (the third year and club captain) has three.

Leona’s jacket also appears to be slightly longer than Ruggie and Epel’s, though it’s hard to tell for sure because of his pose. Is that to indicate he’s the leader??? (If it’s signaling seniority, then Ruggie’s jacket would be longer than Epel’s). Edit: Leona’s longer jacket is confirmed in his voice lines to be someone only the club leader wears.

RE SO EXTRA?????? 'An interesting detail is that Ruggie and Epel have goggles with different colored coatings on their lenses to reflect their dorms (golden for Savanaclaw, purple for Pomefiore). Leona, however, does not have traditional goggles, nor are they mounted on his head. He seems to have a pair of sunglasses dangling from the little side pocket that holds his magical pen. Ruggie and Epel's footwear also indicates their dorm allegiance via colors. At first I thought it was a bunch of shiny golden particles but upon closer inspection, it looks to be more like a purposefully textured fade. Truly, hats off to the designers and artists for somehow making a variant of the club uniform that conveys Leona’s arrogance and includes luxurious fashion (though let’s be honest, Ruggie probably maxed Leona’s credit card buying these accessories for him www).

I think my favorite part of this new card is Leona’s face. You can unfortunately get a good look at how handsome he is here 💀 The cocky smirk, the sharp and bright eyes, his sharp jawline, how his locks fall around his face and call attention to… YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING???? 😭 His regal aura really is there front and center…

But no, no!! I shan’t roll for him 🙃 I can appreciate from afar, I don’t need to have ojitan in my card roster, nope.

Since the Epel Clubwear first dropped and I saw the buckles… I’ve been on a spiritual retreat in the mountains and lived a humble life as a nun, meditating in the peace and tranquility of nature to attain enlightenment. I have no worldly desires such as Fake Cat 🙏 This is me coping

<incorporate more “canon” terms into my translations> what about terms such as "madol", "magical wheel", "magift" and "doodle Suit"? these are all terms changed in official EN but the VA lines stayed the same. so in this case, which one is considered canon? personally, i'd stick to the VA lines but idk 🤔 its kinda confusing because EN makes no sense in these cases ;v;

I feel you! It's taken some time for me to get used to the EN names, especially since, as you've pointed out, we hear the JP terms from the voice actors. So, it may still be a while before I can comfortably use all of the EN terms, but I want to make sure my sentences flow a bit more smoothly. I'll use the words you listed as examples, since I haven't truly thought out each difference yet:

Madol/Thaumark: I've already started incorporating notes on the Thaumark amount whenever I translate something in Madol. I know I still prefer Madol, but Thaumarks differs by 2 orders of magnitude (100 Madol = 1 Thaumark), so I try to comment on both.

Magical Wheel/Blastcycle: To be perfectly honest, I think Blastcycle is a really cool word. I'm still partial to Magical Wheel, but this will probably be one of the easier ones for me to convert to.

Magical Shift (Magift)/Spelldrive: This one is a bit difficult, because I like the term Magical Shift, but I'm not as partial to the shortened form Magift because my brain automatically wants to use a hard g sound. My final decision on this term will probably happen when Leona, Ruggie, and Epel get their Club Wear cards, since the club name is written in English on their pre-groovy card image.

Unique Magic/Signature Spell: Deuce, Trey, Jamil, and Epel all had their Signature Spell name changed from their Unique Magic name. "Bet the Limit" became "Double Down," "Doodle Suit" became "Paint the Roses," "Snake Whisper" became "Snake Charmer," and "Sleep Kiss" became "Crimson Sleep." Trey and Jamil's are actually still accurate to the original kanji. Epel's Signature Spell is a mix of his Unique Magic (Sleep Kiss) and the original kanji (Crimson Fruit). On this one, I know I do want to keep the original Unique Magic name, if only because they DECLARE the spell. It's shouted deliberately and loudly, and I agree, it is odd to read something different from what I can hear, especially when it is the only thing on the screen.

I hope this helps walk through some of my thought process. I want to make sure that both those who play JP and EN get to enjoy the translations, so I'll tread on this tightrope as best as I can. I will also say that my priority changes may be those EN terms that have been confirmed in the JP game (for example when we learned the homelands' names in Chapter 6 because of the map).

You didn't have magic and you couldn't use that swirling plug-like thing. Fortunately, Crowley let you join another club. Otherwise, if you'd stayed there, you'd just have to do the errands and errands and gosh you don't want that. You look at the list in your hand. On the list were all the clubs that existed in the School and how many they were. As you looked through the list, you noticed something..

Gargoyle Studies Club = 1 person.

1 person? Isn't that a little bit few? Why only 1 person? These questions piled up in your mind and you looked at which class this club was in and headed there. You were looking at other clubs on the way there. No magic required.

You finally arrived at the door of the classroom and knocked on the door. It was quiet for a while. Maybe that 1 person didn't come to the club, who comes to the club where he is the only person?

You can come.

Voice came. You didn't expect this. You slowly opened the door and stuck your head in first. You glanced around the classroom and saw the figure standing next to a large boulder(?) and facing your side. You entered the classroom and moved towards its direction and noticed it as you got closer. This guy had horns?! And how tall is this guy?! It's at least 2 meters tall! He was looking at you with calm and cold eyes, but not that cold. With some soft lakes, but the aura it emitted made it hard to spot. You swallowed and the words came out of your mouth in an instant.

I-ı want to join your club.

Actually, you didn't mean to say that, you didn't know what to say when that person was looking at you with such a strange and somewhat reactionary expression. As soon as you said that, his eyes widened and he was visibly surprised. It was quiet for a few seconds, maybe minutes. But the expression looking at you hasn't changed. You're starting to feel nervous—you've been nervous all along, it's only increasing. You couldn't take this pressure any longer and spoke up.

He brought his face close to your left ear. His breath touched your ears and neck. He pulled his right hand out of the door and wrapped it around your waist, pulling you towards him. His grip was hard, and as far as you could tell by the grip, you couldn't get rid of it. You had nowhere to move.

I don't know why, but your feelings for me have atrophied a bit. If I didn't give you enough attention and love, you could only say that. Then these stupid thoughts wouldn't have entered your head.

Riddle Info Compilation part 21: Ace (pt1)

Riddle’s introduction to Ace is during the opening ceremonies.

Before Ace is even assigned his dorm Riddle observes, “I pity his future housewarden” and “I’ll have to drill basic manners into him before I even get started on the Queen’s laws.”

Their first interaction is Riddle sending Ace back to his seat where he immediately becomes bored and forces Epel out of the room with him to explore the campus.

Riddle follows after them to hunt him down, but they successfully evade him.

Ace scolds Riddle to his face during Phantom Bride (calling him the lousiest suitor of them all), and he is often complaining about Riddle behind his back.

In various vignettes Ace says “Riddle’ll have my head,” “Why’s Housewarden Riddle gotta be so impatient?” and refers to him as a “teapot tyrant” multiple times.

Ace also says that Riddle “would be perfect if not for the whole ‘flying off the handle’ thing,” explaining that while he can vouch for the tarts at the Unbirthday Party, he cannot say the same about Riddle’s temper.

While often venting about Riddle’s temper we also see Ace protect him from a rogue Spelldrive disc.

When Leona is unimpressed Ace insists that if he hadn’t been with Riddle, he would’ve been seriously injured.

Leona responds, “Riddle woulda batted that little disc away with his magic, no problem,” and Riddle agrees.

Ace says, “I just did all that for nothing!” but Riddle says that he proved his physical capabilities and he could see Ace representing Heartslabyul in croquet tournaments or inter-dorm sports competitions one day.

Despite their rocky past (where a pre-overblot-Riddle ordered sentient rose bushes to kill him), Ace seems proud of being able to impress his housewarden: Ace says it “felt pretty great” when he was able to impress Riddle with a card trick, and he goes out of his way to tell Riddle when he helps Cater in a vignette, as though hoping for a compliment.

He also brags about his basketball abilities to Riddle during a PE class, but when Riddle compliments him he reacts with surprise. Riddle explains, “I know how to recognize exceptional talent when I see it. If you make a name for yourself in your club, that also contributes toward Heartlabyul’s reputation.”

According to a voice line, Ace invites Riddle to watch his basketball games.

Riddle compliments Ace again during Phantom Bride on his intended proposal for Eliza. When Ace insists that he was faking it Riddle claims otherwise saying, “I thought it was very YOU, in a good way.” (He follows this up with, “Too bad when all is said and done, the princess will be picking me.”)

Seeing the new Ruggie card and the freaking disc made me realize that Yuu got lucky getting away getting hit by that thing? IN THE HEAD?!

Hey, we can’t have our main point-of-view character dead or with an extended concussion this early in the game + they needed a convenient transition to the next scene in a way which doesn’t reveal Malleus’s true identity to Yuu (gotta keep that a secret until late book 5) 😂 As the player’s avatar, they’re equipped with strong plot armor. It definitely feels like a part where you need your suspension of disbelief to kick in for it to “make sense”. Getting beaned in the head with a GOLD disk propelled by magic at a high velocity sounds like it could do significant damage otherwise.

Oh, and speaking of the new Ruggie card?? We get our first look at what the Magift uniforms look like:

The purple and black are consistently shown to be NRC’s school colors; these are also present in other athletic uniforms as well as the ceremonial robes. It’s no surprise to see those same shades reflected here, in the Magift (ie Spelldrive) uniform.

Not sure if I understand the jacket he’s wearing over the black, the length of it makes it easy to snag on something while flying. Maybe it’s just something Ruggie specifically wears (since he tends to have hand-me-owns that may not fit him correctly)?? The placement of the belts across Ruggie’s torso is… interesting? Is that meant to secure him…? Why do I get the sense that the belts will be used to frame Leona’s chest in his own Club Wear iteration 😭

The goggles make sense; you’d want to protect your eyes from such a dangerous sport. I was expecting more bulky and protective headwear though 😅 Thankfully the knees and legs seem to be padded! You can’t tell if the arms are due to the sleeves, but I hope they are too. The whole outfit seems to have a focus on being aerodynamic. I’m guessing the protective element of the clothes comes from magic being imbued into them or something (since we know that’s the case for dorm uniforms and ceremonial robes). That must explain why the Magift uniforms don’t look like American footballers. According to Yana, these clothes were designed not just with protection from collisions and rolling in mind, but also to allow for flying at high speeds.

I appreciate that the Club Wear cards usually give us a new hairstyle for each student. Ruggie has his bangs parted to make way for a pair of goggles! This look makes him look slightly more mature.

A nice detail for this card is that we get to see the field set up for a full game of Magift. The goal looks so funky and generic fantasy at the same time 😂

... Now imagine pulling up to the field looking cool and intimidating in your clothes, only to get your ass handed to you by pretty boys in (probably) pristine white uniforms that haplessly cheer about the power of friendship 💀 AND THAT HUMILIATION IS TELEVISED ALL OVER TWISTED WONDERLAND

idk man i just really like their interaction about this whole think ;A; like yea vil practically fell over in BETRAYAL when he saw rook voted for their enemy LOL but then i like that hes like "please. i know you and i know you dont make biased decisions ever, you always tell what you truly believe in your heart," and and and god damn it tumblr wont let me post any more photos but vil SMILES and hands rook back his handkerchief to let him dry his own tears and it's just SWEET WAHHH listennnnNNNN. i think it's nice. vil couldve gone off and been super mad at rook but he wasn't 😭 like he wasnt happy lol, but he knows rook. he understands [as much as one can LOL] rook. and rook loves and supports vil with everything he has, but hes also true to his heart and i think thats something vil really values about rook and a big part of why he keeps him around. it can be a positive and a negative, sure- this isnt the only time rooks honest to a fault lol, but i love,, multifaceted characters with deep relationships....

point is i lay facedown on the floor and cry for hours when i think too hard about vil and rook bc theres just So Much Love..... i cant get really coherent points or analysis out i just love repeating parts that happen in the game and posting six million screenshots bc thats all thats happening in my brain constantly JKFLJDSKLDJS i love rookvil. one of the ships ever. theyre married your honor theyre MARRIED and also being in a toxic yaoi polycule with leona is very funny to me jfklejskljfe marriage + divorce love wins(?)
