Headcanon that Robin!Dick's historical swearing construction 'Holy X, Batman!' derives from the way his parents swore, being some flavour of Eastern European Catholic who tended to swear by holy things, and it's actually his natural way of swearing. Adult!Dick can turn the air blue if he wants to, but in moments of extreme stress or distress he reverts to his childhood swears (and, thanks to his using them as Robin, sometimes has difficulty preventing himself from tacking 'Batman' on the end – this isn't an identity reveal because everyone assumes he's just referencing Robin).
Dick is driving Steph to college, or some other civilian journey, going across a narrowish bridge and they meet an enormous lorry absolutely barrelling down the other way, very much not keeping to its side of the road. Dick floors it towards the lorry to get past it before it drifts even further over, and there really isn't a lot of bridge…
Dick: AAAAAAAAA HOLY ONCOMING TRAFFIC BATMAN!
Steph, coming down from adrenaline rush as the lorry disappears behind them: What did you just say?
Dick: 😬
Steph: 😁

Duke: I think my cousin is catching on to my secret identity
Tim: Why don't you invent a fake uncle?
Duke: I...don't think injecting another relation into this would solve anything??
Steph: Tim. That bonkers plan worked once for, like, fifteen minutes. Stop bringing it up every time

the reason evangeline survived jacks’s kiss is because she’s a lesbian w an insane comphet crush atm, thus making her immune bc she’ll “never truly love him” (‘cause she’s, you know, 0% attracted to men), and in a month, she’s going to come out of the closet and they’re going to have an immensely awkward breakup. aaaaand send post.

what stuff can't you forgive batman beyond for? :o
Ugh OK. Disclaimer that none of these things make Batman Beyond bad. None of this is bad writing. I just don't like it. It's fine, actually, I just hate it.
I know Batman Beyond had to justify its existence somehow and answer the question "why is the ONLY PERSON who could become Batman a random teenager off the street?". There had to be some sort of reason why Bruce was completely isolated from Dick, Tim, and Barbara, and why Dick or Tim wasn't Batman.
The ways in which it got rid of them though!! Dick's like 60 and he hates Bruce and never speaks to him! Barbara's a cop, which she would never do, who had a thing with Bruce. Superman's infected by Starro so all of his friends at the League are out. And freaking Return of the Joker, oh my god. Putting aside the fucking sadness of Tim also never speaking to his dad and living an entire life pretending Batman and Robin never happened. COME ON. I really didn't like the "Terry is Bruce's secret kid" thing either, but that's less of a moral and more of a personal stance.
Sometimes a work is the most influential work in your writing completely against your will and without your permission. Return of the Joker traumatized me as a kid, and for some reason although I hate it SO FUCKING MUCH, it's permeated a lot of what I write with Tim. His death in the Reverse Robins thing was directly what happened in ROTJ, except he killed himself instead of the Joker. And I never even get into much detail on Tim's death there because it makes me sad.
Batman Beyond, you did not stop to consider those of you who were watching every DCAU cartoon sequentially, and who had come fresh off watching the most adorable small child run around doing Robin things in the final season of BTAS. You did not stop to wonder if he was a baby only a week before in my own mind. And now this.
DCAU!Batman had always been a lighthearted, kind person who had a robust support network. He had shipteasing. With Wonder Woman. It was really sad to see every good thing in his life stripped away and turn him withered, bitter, and old. Showing Batman in that light isn't bad in and of itself, but I was attached to this guy :c. Why hadn't they just set up another continuity where these characters didn't exist so they didn't have to worry about depressingly shoving them aside?
Oh, and. Just kidding. I can forgive them for all of this. I hate it, but it's fine. What I actually cannot forgive them for is for fucking Bruce and Barbara having an affair. Oh my god. Oh my god. Bad. So bad.

Like talon dick au, league jason/tim au, meta literally anybody else, bruce treating tim the worst because he came after Jason, etc.
These are all themes and ideas you could explore with the characters they actually apply to and it’s not lost on me that such a heavily queer fandom ignores black and brown people and women so much in favor of white men who are canonically cops, or have classist ideals, or whatever. It’s not even the aus themselves that are bad (well. To you ig) it’s the fact that it’s so obvious that ur yearning for a specific character or story that’s already there and just waiting to be explored in full but you can’t see poc as people enough to do it.
Anything you write about talon dick can be explored through cass, league cracker aus through Damián, meta anyones through Duke, tim being hated through Stephanie. These are themes that ALREADY exist but y’all are so entangled in making white men kiss that u ignore them it’s so fucking weird. Even that ‘trying c+ parent’ thing with Bruce where he knows he’s paranoid and controlling but he knows statistically it helps but he also wants his family to be happy? Or him being the only smart competent person ever (🫥) and backbone of the JL? That could be Babs! READ BIRDS OF PREY!
Anyways it’s just so disingenuous like first of all I don’t believe anyone who says they don’t read enough ONLY to include Duke; not only bc it’ll be someone who’s self admittedly never read anything but also bc Duke is THEE easiest character to get into rn. I don’t believe people who write the aus above and have the characters they actually apply to as cardboard cutouts in the background have any care for said characters and I don’t believe that people who project their own “leftist” ideals onto white characters before even THINKING about a woman believe shit. That’s just me tho idc

I saw a post about flash drive safety and it’s bugging me so I gotta talk about it
Someone in the replies already said it but the post is a huge exaggeration of what happens when a drive fails. First off, why the fuck are you leaving a usb plugged in all the time anyway. What purpose does that serve. Secondly, if leaving it in all the time is frying things that frequently, I think you might have bigger problems.
As someone who is actually going through professional data recovery on a drive right now, know there are in general 3 tiers of recovery, and each one depends on the type of drive and what’s wrong with it. The basic level, level 1, averages around $250 CAD here. This is bare bones recovery for simpler issues, things that don’t require physical repairs to the drive, such as failed allocation and corruption. Yes that’s expensive, but a far cry from the $950 that person was quoted.
Level 2 starts at about $450 CAD and is where you start to see physical damage like circuit board failures or firmware problems.
In my particular case, the drive I sent in is a level 3 issue because the controller board failed and they needed to do a forensic recovery. That’s where you start getting closer to the $900-1000 range, and where you start questioning if you’re even going to be able to get any data off of it. The particular store I used does not charge full price for failed recoveries, and allows payment plans if needed. Keep in mind I sent in an internal SSD, not a flash drive. Flash drives are usually cheaper.
It’s fine to store photos on flash drives. Yeah they’re meant for temporary storage, but if you have another backup somewhere, it’s fine to have a copy on flash drive. I found one from almost 20 years ago that still works - it’s no big deal, so long as you’re making sure it’s not the only copy you have and you’re taking decent care of the usb. Treat it gently, press “eject usb” on your computer when you’re done with it, keep a backup, and you’re fine.
And why the fuck would you leave it in 24/7 anyway?????

also i wouldn’t be able to at all easily find a previous reblog of this pic but
certainly knowing that rick moranis had seen bmc clearly and timingwise it was like, okay probably one of the later shows, but learning via joe iconis carrie the musical interview that went on a lsoh tangent that it was a Surprise Visit on the Closing Performance actually apparently, which is news to me
