Last year I got MultiE's Sterek zine.

As I got the package I was surprised as I got a carton with Stiles and Derek's silhouettes on it. In that gorgeous carton was the zine bundle which includes two gorgeous zines, prints, a charm, a sticker and a button. So many goodies. 🥰

The books show Stiles and Derek in so many poses, AUs and ratings. There is also a super good fic in one zine. ❤️🖤

You can't buy the bundle but she still sells the digital versions of her zines. Also she has other great Sterek stuff in her shop. 😁

The Wolf Lord - Fic Preview

(This is the preview of my fic for @sterekzine! Is it a historical AU? Of course it is; haven’t you met me?!)

"You never know," Lydia said. "Perhaps the Wolf Lord will ask you to dance tonight."

Stiles scoffed. "Oh, yes, of course he will. And then he'll transform into a giant black wolf and whisk me away to his estate to live happily ever after." He rolled his eyes at the thought. "Actually, I rather hope he does ask me to dance. I can tell him how ridiculous these masquerades are."

The Wolf Lord was in truth the new Earl of Triskelion, who'd taken over the empty title some months before. It was said he was a werewolf who could achieve the full shift—something very few could do—and he never appeared at any ball without a wolf mask over his face. It was such a foolishly dramatic thing, and it was precisely the reason every damned ball this Season was a masquerade. Because the bloody Wolf Lord wouldn't show up otherwise.

Stiles's heart twisted at the thought of seeing someone else wearing the title that had belonged to the Hales. It should have been Derek's, damn it, not this...interloper.

"Stiles?" Lydia sounded concerned. "Are you all right?"

He cleared his throat and pasted on a smile. "I'm fine."

Our Mrs. Hale

What's this? Its the sterek piece I did for the Anchored zine! It's been over a year now since I finished it so it's nice to re-evaluate it and see how I've grown as an artist since then. This thing went through so many layout changes! What a beast! When will I learn to be less ambitious with my large pieces? (never) Still! I'm quite happy with the finished piece.

Me rambling about the story I had in mind under the cut

The theme of the zine was soulmates and I didn't want to double up too much on what others were doing so I chose something probably quite unconventional. I don't think handfasting generally has soul-bonding connotations buuuuuut it's fun and it has a nice visual so go with me on this one.

Title comes from a Firefly episode - Our Mrs. Reynolds since my idea for the setup was something along the lines of: The nobility from two countries come together to throw a party celebrating their alliance and negotiate a marriage or two to formalize the arrangement. Stiles was only half listening when his dad was explaining the importance of the event and so without realizing it ends up soul-bound to Derek. Listen, it was a party! How was he supposed to know that the wine and the flowers and the dancing was some sort of ritual? He was just trying not to be culturally insensitive and offend their very very very hot neighbor. Not that he's complaining about the soul-bond thing its just a surprise! Basically, one part fantasy arranged marriage, one part woke up married in vegas, and some soulmates there in the middle.

I've considered re-visiting this AU simply because I like the visual design concepts I came up with for the two countries but I don't have any concrete ideas rn...

Hey hey Sterek Fans! Today is the day that we announce our 2020 Sterek Week Schedule!! Thank you so much for your patience with us, we really appreciate it! Without further ado, here’s the theme schedule for this year’s Sterek Week!

Sunday October 25th- Scene Stealer: Take a scene, any scene, from any show/book/movie, and Sterek it! Do Derek and Stiles get lost in The Twilight Zone? Perhaps they have to save the multiverse in their own Crisis On Infinite Earths, or maybe their problem is a little more intimate and in need of a good ol’ spy suit up? Maybe Stiles has to deal with a bearded millionare detective, or for something less serious, perhaps he ends up competing to become America’s next drag superstar with Pitcrew member Derek! If you’ve ever thought “Hey this scene would have been SO much better with Sterek..” then this is the theme for you!

Monday October 26th- Cozy Comfort: We mentioned before that we wanted this year’s themes to be comforting, and for this one, we’re taking that quite literally! 2020 has been difficult on everyone and we all deserve some nice cozy fluff, especially with our favorite wolf and his companion- you know, whatever Stiles might be- so for this theme, we ask you to focus on the comforting things, fireplaces on cold winter nights, cozy cabins in the woods, thumbhole sweaters and size-too-big hoodies, if ever there was a time we needed some comfort, it would be now, and we encourage you to bring us your coziest ideas!

Tuesday October 27th- Star-Gazing: Ready for another fluffy theme? How about good ol’ star-gazing? But this doesn’t have to be limited to just looking up at the stars, it can come from being among the stars too! Alien AUs, astronaut AUs, superheros and NASA AUs, and ofcourse there’s also nothing wrong with your most literal sense- gazing up at the stars from Earth, and imagining what might be among them

Wendsday October 28th- Soulmate: Soulmate AUs are a marvelous thing, so much so that there’s even a Teen Wolf soulmates zine running right this moment! But along with being popular, the idea of having a soulmate can often be a very comforting one, and as our overarching theme for this year is “comfort”, we wanted to include something that lended a bit more to spiritual comfort than just physical comfort too, so bring us your soulmarks, your countdown clocks, your “suddenly seeing colors” AUs and all the others you can think of! There’s no wrong way to do a soulmate AU, so bring them all you have to offer!

Thursday October 29th- Lyrics and Quotes: This is one theme that can truly, easily bridge across any fanwork medium with ease, be it a video set to music, a songfic, graphics covered in quotes, or art inspired by lyrics, let your imagination run free with any words that inspire you! They can be dark, light, romantic, angsty, from fiction or real life, there are no limits, and CERTAINLY feel free to include more than one if you’re so inspired!

Friday October 30th- Blue Moon: This year gives us the first blue moon on Halloween since 1944!! On top of that, full moons seem to be the thing this year, as there are 13 of them in 2020 and TWO in October!! Ofcourse you don’t have to take this theme too literally and feature an actual moon in any way, you can also use it metaphorically, presenting incidents that only occur “once in a blue moon”

Saturday October 31st- Halloween: Our last day this year is my personal favorite day of every year: Halloween!! From ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties, let your love for Sterek rule the night! The best part of Halloween themes is that you can use the actual holiday as Halloween for your theme- picking out costumes, trick or treating, and carving pumpkins, or you can just use what Halloween REPRESENTS- the celebration of all things magic, haunted, and living in the shadows, or hey, you can always combine it! You could also mix Halloween mythologies and modern day Halloween, maybe something special happens to werewolves on Halloween, maybe the Hales have always had a history of Halloween parties and some wicked pixies take over, maybe Stiles goes to the woods as Little Red Riding Hood and his Big Bad Wolf is waiting there for him… this may be the end of Sterek Week this year, but mark my words, as long as there is Halloween, there will be Sterek Week!

Good news, guys, I wrote one fic last year and very much appreciate that addendum, haha.  I think I’m just going to go with most recent.  Hopefully, if I get this next year, it’ll look less homogenous both fandom and pairing-wise (and I’ll have at least five newbies).

Reciprocal Determinism; Stiles/Derek; 4,248 words; 10.05.19. this is directly tumblr-related, i’d been reblogging a few of those stiles + derek touches through the seasons gifsets and, well, you know who does nearly all the non-life-saving touching?  stiles.  know what would happen post-nogitsune?  stiles would shrink, and reaching outside of himself... yeah, not very likely.  which means derek can lose the only human contact he gets or he can become the person putting in the work for a while.  i am still amazed at how RARELY i have utilized post-nogitsune plots so this was fantabulous if only because i have another one of those to my name now (and i should have bajillions for real).

He Speaks in Petals; Stiles/Derek; 4,727 words; 01.11.20. yeah, a thing i wrote this year!  i really wanted to start this year off with just writing.  the plot formed around the writing i wanted to do--the character descriptions, the scenery, the relationships--and was totally secondary to what i started with.  hopefully it didn’t end up looking like that though since the plot came and whacked me in the face as soon as i’d finished setting that first scene??  but this was really just the joy of writing rather than the joy of story because i wanted to revel in the productivity and beauty of individual brushstrokes this time after i’d gone so long without making them.

Anchor’s Away; Stiles/Derek; 2,512 words; 06.01.18. this was so hard.  i wrote this for the sterek solstice charity zine and i don’t really know how to contain an entire story in 2.5k but i did my absolute best, especially since i was so honored to’ve been included in it.  i think i made it even harder on myself by not really feeling an au at the time.  i wanted future canon because i have had a hankering for good stories with these characters i know in realistic futures for so long i think it’s just a thing that’s... never going away.  it’s got humor and angst and the only kind of cora + derek relationship i like (one that takes work) and a stiles and derek who get together because, honestly, it’s harder and takes more effort to be apart.

Sinking and Surfacing; Stiles/Derek; 9,547 words; 06.09.18. true facts about life?  i haven’t been able to read this one again yet so i couldn’t really describe much about it.  one day i will get over the cringe i have about it (that’s almost certain to be entirely undeserved) but some fics take longer than others (like, i only got to the point, less than a year ago, that i could read seat belts & gravity and wtf? i really like that fic but i had such an aversion to it for YEARS.  i think the writing process of some things affects how i remember the finished product).  anyway, all that to say, i haven’t gotten to the point where i can interact with this one again.  i don’t remember writing it very well, the words didn’t do what i wanted them to in the end, and i’m still mad about it and protesting reengagement for the time being.

Hibernation Station; Stiles/Derek; 72,965 words; 01.25.18. happily, i still really love this fic.  it’s so chock-full of all the things i want and so much of it was a direct response to fandom tropes that annoy the pants off me.  i like writing friendships as important as romance, i like writing good friends and siblings rather than overstepping icky friends and siblings, i like stiles calling out how condescending it is when a partner tries to become a boss even if it is for “noble” reasons - like deciding someone can’t handle something (not okay), i like writing triangles where the non-otp character isn’t just an evil/obstacle-like prop and instead has their own life we’re stepping into, i like the things this fic is and that’s still super, duper cool.

right, so, i have no idea who’s been active lately - especially while i was h*cka inactive - so, uhhhhh if you want to do it, go for it and feel free to tag me as your prompter because i am supes prompting you!

the one I want

Finished for Sterekweek ‘17 Days Four and Five: Mates and Lyrics&Quotes, though it was originally started for Solstice, the Sterek charity zine! Check it out, preorders start in November and you don’t want to miss that!

I ended up submitting another fic for the zine, so now you get to enjoy 2.1k of a soulmate AU with soulsongs!

We’re soaring, flying, there’s not a star in heaven that we can’t reach…

“If we’re trying, so we’re breaking free,” Derek sings under his breath while brushing his teeth and chokes on his toothpaste when Laura suddenly speaks up behind him:

“High School Musical? Really, little bro?”

“Shut up, Laura,” Derek croaks and slams the door in her face.

His soulmate is either a twelve year old girl or hates him. They’ve been singing nothing but High School Musical for days and Derek is going out of his mind. Sure, his mum gets misty eyed whenever he starts singing, talking about “soul songs” and how lucky he is to have a soulmate close enough to hear his heart song, but Derek has some serious doubts about this soulmate business if it makes him belt out Get’cha Head in the Game in the middle of the basketball court. How strong the urge is to sing along with your soulmate out loud supposedly depends on how close you are to them, but Derek couldn’t find anyone who looked like they were currently singing High School Musical in the crowd, so not even embarrassing himself in front of most of the school got him any closer to finding out who his soulmate is.

Derek wants to find them so he can wring their neck, not because he’s “secretly a romantic marshmallow at heart”, no matter what Laura says.

Until he can get his revenge in person, though, he’s going to put on some speed metal on the way to school and yell along in the car. If there’s any good in the world his soulmate will be taking the bus to school and be forced to screech along with him.

Derek never claimed to be a good person and he’s getting really fed up with High School Musical.

Hey, I just met you and this is crazy...

“But here’s my number, so call me maybe,” Derek says through clenched teeth and the barista laughs at him.

“I don’t go for jailbait, kid, but here’s your coffee and call me maybe in five years,” he says and Derek snatches his coffee and hurries out of the café with his face burning hotly.

This stupid song has been stuck in his head for weeks, thanks to everyone and their mother - including his soulmate - singing it. Mostly Derek has been able to ignore the urge to sing along - other than proximity, enthusiasm is the most important factor when it comes to soulsongs. If you just hum a song under your breath, your soulmate probably won’t even hear it. If you sing along to something on the radio and are separated by a couple of blocks, your soulmate is probably going to hear it and be filled with a slight urge to sing along, but that urge is nothing you can’t resist. But just as the urge gets stronger the closer two soulmates are, it also grows with the enthusiasm of the singer. So for Derek not being able to resist the push of the soulsong, his soulmate has to be either around the corner or belting out Carly Rae Jepsen as if his life depends on it.

Yes, his. Derek can’t know for sure until he meets him, but occasionally he can hear an actual voice singing their soulsong and he’s pretty sure it’s male. Laura’s romance novels - which Derek reads for research, really! - always read that as a sign for an especially strong connection, but Derek isn’t sure how reliable they really are. An awful lot of Lairds and Ladies discover that their soulmate has been the stable boy all along in those novels, and that just doesn’t seem statistically probable. But still, Derek’s soulmate is almost definitely male and quite probably near him singing Carly Rae Jepsen.

So Derek quickly looks around to make sure no one is near him and then starts singing himself:

“Shut up, just shut up, shut up!”

Singing a Black Eyed Peas song that will have him declare himself “crazayyyyy for tryin’ to be your ladyyyy” in just a few lines might not be the best choice, but Derek hopes that it’ll get his opinion on Carly Rae Jepsen’s telephone struggles across nevertheless.

Derek bites his lip and looks around automatically, hoping to see someone singing Eric Clapton, but everyone seems to be deep in conversation with someone else. Out of the corner of his eye he thinks he sees one of Cora’s classmates leave the cafeteria, but he’s gone too quickly for Derek to check whether he might have been singing.

His soulmate had sounded so sad and while he’s mostly been a giant pain in Derek’s ass so far, he feels as though he has to do something to help. That’s hard to do without knowing what’s wrong, though, or even what’s wrong with whom, as he’s still no closer to finding out who his soulmate is. There’s no way to comfort his soulmate physically, but there’s one thing Derek can do:

“Don't give up 'Cause you have friends. Don't give up You're not beaten yet. Don't give up I know you can make it good.”

Laura has declared the week ‘Grease week’ and it’s all they’ve been watching and listening to for three days and Derek doesn’t even mind. Summer Nights in particular has been stuck in his head and he’s singing it under his breath on his cooling down walk home after his daily run through the preserve. As he’s alone he’s doing both parts to the best of his ability, but when he sings the next lines, a different voice answers him.

“We made out under the dock-” Derek sings and the new voice continues:

“- we stayed out 'til ten o'clock. Summer fling, don't mean a thing, But ah, oh, those summer nights.”

Derek whirls around and sees a guy who looks vaguely familiar. He’s got messy brown hair, laughing light brown eyes, and dark moles scattered all over his pale skin. Derek is pretty sure he’s one of Cora’s classmates. He thinks he knows him actually - it’s Sheriff Stilinski’s son, if Derek is not mistaken, Stiles.

“Dude, Grease!” Stiles says, grinning widely, and Derek automatically retorts: “Don’t call me ‘Dude’.”

“What should I call you then?” Stiles asks, unperturbed, and Derek suddenly develops a coughing fit because - was that flirting? It’s not unheard of - they are not the Victorians after all, obsessed with keeping all contact between anyone but mates or family to a very decorous minimum. There’s no guarantee to hear your soulsong and find your soulmate, so of course people flirt, hoping to find a partner nevertheless. But Derek has been hearing his soulsong for most of his life, and it just hadn’t felt right to go look for anyone but his soulmate. So he’d just awkwardly glowered whenever someone had tried to approach him and eventually people stopped trying. But that means his first hand knowledge of flirting comes from Laura’s romance novels and again, Lairds and Ladies are not the most realistic example to model your experiences on. So Derek just offers his names slightly hesitantly:

“Derek? I mean, I’m Derek, Derek Hale.”

“Oh, you are Cora’s brother!” Stiles exclaims and sticks his hand out for a fist bump that Derek returns, increasingly bewildered. “I’m Stiles, Stiles Stilinski, and we should totally sing Grease together!”

Derek manages to hold back the automatic “I know” in reaction to Stiles offering his name, but instead he blurts: “We should?” which really isn’t much smoother.

“Yes, we should!” Stiles insist and starts: “Summer lovin’ had me a blast-”

He looks at Derek expectantly and Derek just can’t resist those puppy dog eyes (and the insistent voice in the back of his head saying how familiar Stiles’ voice sounds despite Derek never having heard it before): “Summer lovin’, happened so fast-”

Stiles cheers and continues with a wink: “I met a boy crazy for me-”

Derek can feel his cheeks growing hot and his voice is slightly hoarse on the next line: “I met a boy, cute as can be-”

This time it’s Stiles’ turn to blush and duck his head and Derek’s voice comes steadier again as they join up on the next lines:

Summer days driftin' away, To uh - oh those summer nights…

I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!) And don't it feel good!

“So happy, dear bro?” Laura sticks her head into Derek’s room with a grin and laughs when Derek falls off his bed. He’d been jumping around and singing along with his soulmate until Laura interrupted him and not even lying on his back like a turtle can wipe the grin off his face. His soulmate has been happy, happier than happy, singing joyful songs in a voice that is feeling more familiar every day.

Derek has been spending more time with Stiles lately, Stiles joining him on his daily runs regularly, but also seeking out Derek in school for lunch or in between classes. He is always singing, an eclectic mix of Disney songs and eighties power ballads and whatever's top of the charts right now. Derek mostly rolls his eyes at Stiles’ antics (it comes without saying that Stiles’ renditions always have to include a full blown choreography), but sometimes he retaliates with musical theatre, symphonic metal, and on one very memorable occasion with a perfect rendition of the fresh Prince of Bel Air.

That night his soulsong is full of kings and princes and thrones and “chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool” and Derek just knows who his soulmate is, but at the same time he doesn’t know. Not for sure. It might all still be a remarkable coincidence. Not very likely, but possible and Derek can’t take the chance. So he’s going to - as Laura likes to tell him - put on his big boy pants and sing his soulsong and hope it’ll be answered. Tomorrow. Tonight he’s going to sing happy songs in his room and hope his soulmate hears them, too.

Derek is in the forest, waiting for Stiles, and singing his soulsong. There’s a difference between simply singing and singing your soulsong. The latter depends on intent and belief and hope. The intent to promise yourself to another, the belief that you’ve found them, and the hope that they feel the same. Singing your soulsong gives your soulmate a choice: to accept or to reject - but ignoring it is not an option. So Derek hopes to hear his soulsong returned - by Stiles of course.

“You better shape up, 'cause I need a man And my heart is set on you You better shape up, you better understand To my heart I must be true-”

Stiles does not just sing the next lines - Stiles does all the jumps and twirls and shimmies Sandy does and even a cops a feel. There’s a pronounced blush on his cheeks, but it seems to have been caused by delight rather than anger, and Derek feels the ball of icy anxiety in his belly melt. His soulmate is Stiles, that much is clear, the only thing that remains in question is what Stiles’ answer is going to be. But Derek has a hunch what it might be:

“Nothing left, nothing left for me to do-”

Stiles winks and sings one last line:

“You're the one that I want!”

Then he throws himself at Derek in an exuberant hug that sends them both to the forest floor. The impact knocks the breath out of Derek but Stiles’ face close to his, bright with joy and framed by leaves caught in his hair, more than makes up for it. Stiles settles in more comfortably on top of Derek and grins down at him. Derek swallows and asks, still slightly breathless:

“Is that your answer?”

Stiles smirks and whispers:

“You are the one I want, Derek Hale.”

And then he ducks his head down for a kiss that first knocks their teeth together painfully, but gentles when Derek curves one hand around the back of Stiles’ head and slightly tugs until their mouths fit together perfectly. Stiles sinks more heavily into Derek’s embrace and Derek wraps his other arm around Stiles’ waist securely and loses himself in the kiss.

In his head, their soulsong continues:

Oo-oo-oo, honey The one that I want You are the one I want

Hi there! Sorry, I’m new here so others may already know the answer to my most probing (ha!) question: are you currently working on anything? By which, of course, I mean Sterek fic of some kind.

Aw, it’s nice of you to ask! I was working on transferring a bunch of my twitterfics over to AO3. I started with Jump me, bro? then simultaneously got a new job and a broken foot, so my plans have been a bit derailed over the last month or so.

Right now, I’m trying to write my Sterek Zine piece. It has a 2,500 word limit, so I guess my physical therapist!Derek fic (currently 3k and growing) is just gonna be the next thing I post on AO3. I’ll have to start another zine idea instead.

And once that’s done, I hope I can get back to my twitterfic transfer. I liked a few of those ideas quite a bit and want to flesh them out more. If you’re not familiar with my twitter rambling, teasers for those include:
