1979
Right, so I originally wasn't going to share this because I feel like it could as well be nothing but a funny coincidence. And even though I've been entertaining the idea for quite some time, I can't seem to find enough proof for it to be classified a proper theory. (Plus, I'm usually kind of terrible at explaining things so it might just be a waste of time. :D)
However, I just finished reading @pinkeoni 's thoughts on how the Upside Down may have been Will's 'hiding spot' long before the events of November 1983 (and I'm currently feeling incredibly inspired ...)
... so consider this post to be the result of a classic knee-jerk reaction. :D
-
Like I've said, it may be purely coincidental, but given the fact it is part of Joyce's 'birthday monologue' (something I feel will be relevant to Will's storyline in season 5) I can't help but find it curious how Joyce ends up using the memory of Will's 8th birthday.
Tumblr media
Let's assume the writers really did have their reasons for choosing that age. It might be time to remind ourselves that Will was born in 1971 ...
Tumblr media
... which means he turned eight in 1979.
Tumblr media
... aka the year Jane unintentionally opens the very first gate and Henry discovers the Upside Down (which had been nothing but some yellow coloured wasteland at that point) as well as those particles he uses to form the Mind Flayer.
Tumblr media
^ "...all you wanted to do was draw..', - he'd most definitely spent most of his time doing exactly that.
[Oh, btw: the lab's playroom = 'rainbow room'. - probably not relevant at all, but, you know, just in case and whatnot. :D ]
Why and how would all of the above be connected to Will/his 8th birthday though?
Again, it is possible that we're dealing with some major case of apophenia and even if we aren't - I don't really know how to connect the dots here. Nevertheless, to me, it's quite interesting how Joyce points out that Will had been given that huge box of crayons (that he used in order to draw 'his rainbow ship that wasn't from a movie')
Especially considering his art has always been quite relevant to the plot AND he is believed to possess the ability to create/alter things with his mind.
Tumblr media
There are quite a few people (me included) who are convinced that he made the Upside Down look like Hawkins.
Tumblr media
But what if there's more to it?
...
What if Will somehow is connected to the yellow version of the Upside Down too?
Tumblr media
What if he can't remember because ... he suffers from dissociative amnesia... ?!
Tumblr media
... just like Jane ...
Tumblr media
Perhaps Tumblr user pinkeoni is right and he really did use it as some sort of hiding spot back when Lonnie was around.
And maybe...
Tumblr media
We'll see, won't we? (:
----------
Um, yeah, that's all - for now. :D
Thanks for reading and stuff. <3

Can’t wait til the day the Duffers gaslight heteronormativity out of existence by being like “what do you mean Mike being queer is a plot twist? We thought we made it pretty obvious he was in love with Will 🤷”

Another script leaked? 😳

I am aware that Searching the Blue is not an 80s song but it's on Will's playlist and I thought it was fitting 🧙🏻‍♂️💕
Also, this script was inspired by this comment:

What if in season 5, Mike confronts Will about the painting. Except he's angry, he's fuming, confused and feels betrayed.
His own best friend lied to him, about the painting, about all of it. And he's so pissed.
So when he storms into the room Will's in (thankfully by himself,) he shoves the painting into Will's chest.
"You lied."
They argue again, except this quickly turns into the biggest fight they've had in the whole series, or in general. They yell, blaming each other, tears in eyes, and eventually Mike gets so pissed he starts dragging the painting back towards him again and plans to drag Will along to El but Will doesn't want him to have it anymore and Mike pulls really hard and-
A loud, unmistakable sound cuts through their argument, silencing them as if it was the biggest threat they've encountered yet.
The both of them look at the painting with wide eyes, Will's with horror and Mike's tinted with guilt.
A huge tear, almost entirely through.
As Will takes it back it falls apart completely, half of the painting falling to the ground before Will manages to catch it. He holds the broken pieces next to each other, as if that would magically fix it.
The tear goes through the middle, from top to bottom, creating a vertical rift between the left and the right.
But unmistakably, the tear goes through one of the little DnD characters in the painting. A paladin with a shield, right through the middle of the heart.

I keep thinking about a scene that could end the show and it keeps bothering me so I need to share it.
Throughout the last season, Will keeps getting worse and worse, more angry, more sad until he feels nothing. Until his trauma takes over and Vecna absolutely consumes him. He takes over with the hard hitting words and convinces Will that everyone around him doesn't really care about him. "The father who never cared about you. The mother who's always busy. The brother who never talks to you.. The friend who could never love you back." ↓
.
It's the final scene. Will's standing in front of Vecna, facing his friends, whom he has pinned up against a wall. This is why he let Vecna consume him - to hurt them as much as they hurt him. Everyone who ever betrayed him in some way - or so he thinks. They keep reminding him of how much they love him, but it's not enough.
It's never enough.
Except Mike.
He's the only one left. The only one still not pinned to the wall. Will's about to do it, but...
Then Mike has the most heartbreaking and emotional scene in the whole show.
Because Mike's had a talk with El when Will went missing in the Upside Down again. It wasn't her who commissioned the painting. Sobbing and absolutely besides himself, Mike gets to his knees, grabs Will's hand and puts it on his heart. "I'm the heart, remember? I'm YOUR heart. I know that now." And Will's face starts to crack. "I'm never, ever going to leave you, I'll always be here by your side Will, I promise. I promise." And Will.. Will starts crying. Two single tears first, then more and more keep coming. And Mike's not letting go. And neither is Will. They hug tight as his friends fall down, being freed of his anger.
But Will realises.
"I have to go, Mike", he says with a trembling voice. Because if he doesn’t, he will die. And Mike's voice cracks as he shouts "No!" and hugs him even tighter. And seeing Mike like this, and realizing his love for all his friends.. Will's love wins. Instead of joining Vecna for good, instead of creating a new reality with him, Will refuses. And then.. starts collapsing in Mike's arms.
And El.. sees it all. Sees Will loving his friend and Mike being absolutely devastated as he shouts for Will to wake up, and she knows. Knows what she has to do.
She runs to Will and touches his arm. She faces Vecna with all she has. The final shot is of her being her own superhero.
.
It's dark.
.
.
Will wakes up in a hospital. Joyce looks relived, she thought they lost him. She immediately goes to get a nurse.
And Mike's there besides him. And he puts his hand in Will's. Will smiles. But then he gets nervous when Mike starts pulling away- wait. No. Mike's not pulling away. He actually entangles their fingers. If they go crazy, they go crazy together.
And for the first time in a while.. There's pure happiness on Will's face.

Listen, I am an Eddie Munson bitch to the core, my name is quite literally Eddie and I’m an irl Eddie Munson (per my partner and so many other people), so when I tell you I will die on my Kas!Max Mayfield ideas for Season 5 I mean that. I love Eddie to death but, Max as Kas just makes so much sense with her overall character, the way the season ended for her, and the story of Kas as a whole, there’s SO MANY things

I really want Will to survive season 5, but if he does then his way of dying will most probably be old age or something stupid like that. I feel like he deserves a more dramatic death, but at the same time I want him to die peacefully *cries in why am I planning Will Byers death already?*

Joyce is (almost) always right ... right?
Um...
Remember the scene where Brenner tries to manipulate Joyce - most definitely - in order to get her to help him get Eleven back (1x08)?
Well, I can't help but think that her reaction is a bit ... suspicious...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Huh!?!?!]
To me, the response seems quite odd considering she knows about Jane and her abilities. She's well aware that the man in front of her has a history with Jane. Not Will. Jane. Eleven. 011.
Hopper even admitted that "he had been chasing after some other kid" - after she pointed it out (1x06).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yet, she decides to accuse Brenner of taking Will and leaving him in that place to die.
[I mean, I get that she was probably trying to leave Jane out of it in order to keep her safe or something - but she could've easily been like: Uh, yeah, right. Your people just handcuffed me and took me to this creepy interrogation room. Why would I help you? - or something.]
And the way she puts it ...
It's not an assumption - it's a statement.
------------
Just so you know, I - obviously - don't think it was Brenner who took Will and 'sent' him to the Upside Down. :D
But!
They've made it quite obvious that Joyce has some sort of ... sixth sense.
So what if she really is onto something in that scene with Brenner?
There are a few things that suggest that he (or the lab in general) had been in the know about Will (and his powers) - even before the events of November '83. (The fake body, Brenner's reaction in the shed etc.)
And I've always considered the conversation between Brenner and Connie Frazier (1x08) to be particularly ... interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It feels kind of ... random, no?
----------
Like I've said, Brenner obviously didn't take Will and put him in the Upside Down.
However, he may have taken advantage of the situation.
----------------------
My thoughts:
First of all, you may or may not be aware that quite a few people (looking at you, @pinkeoni , @chirpsythismorning and @ki-flor :D) are convinced that Will has creation powers and created the Upside Down version of Hawkins.
I am no different. :D
In fact, I take the matter even a little further: I believe that it's possible that he has something to do with the yellow wasteland version as well. [here and here]
Let's assume Brenner really had been aware of Will's abilities...
... we all know what he was like. He didn't give a damn about common moral and ethical principles...
So what if he really did intend to leave him there? - for research purposes or whatever
Like one of those "Hm, let's see what happens."- situations.
Another possibility: he was scared of Will's powers.
I must admit, this seems a bit silly. But there has to be a reason Will wasn't part of the experimentation program (in 1983) - even though they were aware of him. Perhaps Brenner and his team had never been able to find a way to deal with our boy's abilities. It's also possible that it has something to do with the huge amount of parallels between him and Henry.
So maybe he really did want for him to die in that place.
Who knows?
All I know is that we should never, ever underestimate a gut feeling of Joyce Byers. :D
---------
Anyway, thanks for reading. (:

How I imagine Stranger Things season five to end:
Int to - Downtown Hawkins - night
Our heroes and Dr. Owens' army watch in fascination as the Democreatures that once served under Vecna's evil rein, become innocent creatures once again, not committing any harm no longer.
An illuminamous blue glow surrounds Will's hands as he slowly approaches the dissipating Mind Flayer as its shadowy form turns back into the lifeless cloud of particles it used to be. He reaches his hand out to the dying creature as Will closes his eyes, concentrating.
Flashback - S2 EP*4 of Will being possessed by The Mind Flayer
Will does a reverse of the experience he suffered at The Mind Flayer's hand as he restores its form. Its tornado tentacles return as the creature regains its appearance, towering over Will like a god. It stares at Will, its former host for a moment as it regains its free will. Everyone including Eleven, Mike, Hopper, Joyce , Nancy and Jonathan are shocked to see the power Will is capable of.
Will
You're free now. I'll make sure you return to where you belong.
The Mind Flayer looks down upon Will, now safe from Vecna's control, as it turns away and begins to lead Will somewhere. Will follows without hesitation as many Demogorgens, Demodogs, Demobats and Demospiders slowly approach their dominating leaders.
Ext - Hawkins outskirts - night
Dustin, Steve, Robin, Vickie and Wayne watch as the creatures around them walk through the streets of Hawkins, inspiring to follow them as Lucas, Max, Erica, Argyle and Kali do the same.
Ext - Downtown Hawkins
Dmitri, Murray and Mikhail watch the surprising affair, rather shocked.
Eventually all of our heroes gather at the edge of town as The Mind Flayer stops at the massive gate, surrounded by his fellow monsters. It looks down at Will and our heroes with gentle intent. Will understands what it's expressing.
Will
You want to go home, don't you. All of you. Let me lead you. I can make sure you are never controlled again. All of you deserve a normal life and I wanna help you get that.
Everyone is clearly shocked by Will's statement as Joyce steps forward, confused.
Joyce
Will...Why do you want to leave with them. Vecna's been defeated, you can live a normal family life. Why are giving up on that Will?
Will tries to remain composure, taking in a heavy breath of air.
Will
I want to protect everyone, the more The Upside Down remains open, the more likely chance these guys are at risk of becoming weapons. I can't risk it. I don't wanna risk my family's life. The entire world. Now that Henry's gone, my powers are crucial to protecting them. They can thrive in a dimension that no one can get to. That's why I need El to close the gate for good, so The Upside Down doesn't intervene with this world....so I can protect them....
Joyce is on the verge of tears as everyone is struggling to grasp this shocking announcement, especially Jonathan who can't help but place his hand on Joyce's shoulder, getting emotional.
Jonathan
Let him go mom. He needs this...
Joyce's body goes frozen upon Jonathan's words, left to consider. A conflicted Eleven and Mike approach Will, struggling to find the words to encourage him.
Eleven
Will....I can't close the gate with you staying there....You're my brother and I don't want to see you go...
Eleven begins to sob as Will is left standing there, his heart torn.
Will
I know....but it's the only way for everyone to live a normal life...I know you want that El, you deserve it....I need you to make sure my family is happy, to ensure they don't lose hope, can you do that for me?
Eleven nods, still conflicted. Mike turns to Will, on the brink of tears. He doesn't want to lose his best friend.
Mike
Will, think about this for a minute okay? You will be permanently stuck in The Upside Down with no way out....surrounded by monsters....I can't risk that.....We won't be able to rescue you...
Will looks at Mike for a moment, understanding.
Will
I know...but someone needs to make sure these creatures retain their free will. I have the power to do that (beat). Mike, there was a time....there was a time where I really liked you....but you already found someone you can be happy with and I accept that. I always thought if I spoke out, you would hate me for being a mistake...but it turns out I've already found someone to share my heart with....
Will gestures a look towards Mikhail, who weakly smiles as he comes to grips with Will, the boy he loved, exiling himself to this dimension as it was too hard to take. Mike and Eleven share a shocked look with Will for a moment, until they turn to that of acceptance. Mike begins to tightly hug Will, understanding of him.
Mike
It's okay Will....you're my best friend and nothing in this world will change that. It's okay to be different...never forget that, okay?
Will nods, almost shaken with emotion. He looks at all of his friends and family, not wanting to say goodbye.
Will
The thing is....Sometimes I don't feel like I belong. But this party....my family....my friends, they showed me what it was like to feel welcome to society. I look back on the day I was taken and if I hadn't been sent to The Upside Down back in 1983, none of the relationships we made, the progress we made to save Hawkins wouldn't have happened. If we hadn't stepped up, God...Hawkins would be nothing at all. But I don't just speak for what we went through, I'm talking about how life changes us the more we grow, what we see can impact how we see life but that should never change.
We see flashbacks to the previous seasons of when Will disappeared, the friendship he shares with the friends, everyone saving the day etc.
We cut to present day as we see Will giving a last hug to his friends, namely Lucas, Dustin and Max, as they embrace him tightly, holding back tears as it would be the final time they saw their friend. Will approaches Mikhail, his tear-induced eyes staring into his, as the two kiss much to the proud essence from both Dmitri and Joyce. Will hugs Eleven and eventually Joyce and Jonathan as he loves them to death, tears warming his eyes.
(As these scenes occur, we hear Will give this powerful monologue.)
Will
(O.S.)
Life can be a fascinating experience, one where you learn, grow and change. While it isn't easy, we've all had our fair share of love, friendship and death. They can impact us in ways that make us look at the world in a different perspective. That's what the Upside Down did to us, it helped us learn more than we realised and to live to the fullest. The more I think about that fateful day and the trauma it left me with, it's made me come to accept that we have people there for us, I've accepted the hurt I've faced these past few years, and it's helped me become more comfortable about the future, what happens to me. I'll grow but I'll always remember the impact you guys made on me. When I'm gone, I want you to continue on with your lives, to never lose hope and to remain happy. That's what I want the most, to see my family and friends happy again...
Will begins to walk towards the rift as The Mind Flayer and other creatures begin to follow him like the leader of the pack. Mike approaches with a sorrowful smile, hard to fathom a world without Will Byers as he talks to him one last time.
Mike
Hey Will, if you feel alone....always remember our party and how we played D&D together. If you're gonna rule over The Upside Down...you need a monkier for us to remember you by...
Will smiles amid the emotional pain, agreeing half-heartedly.
Will
Well....I think Will the Wise suits me...
Mike
Yeah, it does.
Will walks towards the open rift, content with his fate. The Mind Flayer and the other creatures follow him, like servants following their master as everyone watches with looks of sadness and endurance.
The creatures enter the cracked gate one by one, stepping into a new world where hate could never control them. Will shares one last look with his friends and family as Hopper gives him an assuring nod. Their goodbye goes unspoken as he tells him to follow his heart, to never forget the person he is. The memories of his family will always be with him. No matter where he goes from here, they will always keep him in their hearts.
The Mind Flayer dissipates into a small cloud of smoke as it swirls its way into the gate. It almost resembles a ghost returning to the afterlife.
Will shares one last fond look with his friends and family as he began to lower himself into the crack, walking into the eye of the storm as the sound of muffled tears filled the air.
Eleven braced herself to close the gate, trying to fight back flowing tears as saying goodbye to her brother was the most painful. She couldn't bring herself to do it, to shove Will into such a dangerous fate. But Will isn't scared anymore. He was smiling, tears in his eyes. He was accepting of his fate and he was happy that his friends and family would be safe.
Will looks through the red crack one last time, his eyes wet with tears as he knew how hard this was. But he was doing it for them. He was making a noble sacrifice for the party.
Eleven breaks into a quivering sob, her hand pointed towards the gaping rift as she tried to avoid Will's gaze. She can't bare to look at his innocent smile without guilt washing over her. She is scared. She doesn't want to lose Will, not after everything he has been through. But yet, this was his choice and Eleven didn't want to stand in the way of that.
She lifted her hand into the air, slowly closing the rift as power flowed through El's veins. She channelled all of our sorrow and pain into this last final action. Will doesn't take his eyes away from El, tears falling down his eyes as it was the last she will see of Will's face. His gaze lingered through the closing rift as he paid one last goodbye to his sister.
Eleven screams out in pain as her powers come in full swing. The gate closes for good. She can't bare to lose Will like this, but she knew it was the only way. The creatures needed a protector, someone to keep The Upside Down in peace from others who desired to control it. Will and his powers were their sanctuary. He could be a better leader than Henry ever was.
It seals shut across the town, taking Will with it as his smile fades into the red smoke. The rift seals up like stitching on a clothing as a red wind implodes through Hawkins, restoring the town to its former glory.
The grey clouds clear away from Hawkins as the red wind that manifested from the gate fades into thin air. Eleven opens her eyes to see a seemingly normal Hawkins, no longer consumed by The Upside Down. The daylight shines upon our heroes as the sun's rays come down on them like fireflies. Eleven and the rest observe in awe as their town has been restored, the sun shining down on the freed Hawkins. The Upside Down is a threat no more. Will has saved everyone.
Our heroes look upon the newly restored Hawkins, the dawn of a new day hitting them. They have won.
Camera lingers on everyone staring into the sun as we:
Fade to Black
Scene ends

Y’all know what just hit me? We’re through the worst of it. Like we did it. We made it through seasons 3 & 4, where we were confused - as confused as Mike was - about Mike’s feelings. Where we had to watch Mike and Will repeatedly hurt one another in the midst of all their confusion and internalized self hatred and failure to communicate.
What’s left? Season 5. Yes, there will be painful moments as they come to understand. But by the end they will know. And they will be together. And we won’t have to wait and wonder and doubt anymore. Because neither will they.

Okay okay I think I’m ready to post my own ST observation. I’m sure somebody else has noticed this, but im gonna talk about it anyway lol.
So, I’m like 99.999999% sure the cult of vecna campaign is so important for what’s coming. It foreshadowed vecna not really being dead at the end of s4, and for s5 coming back with an army (which he shows to Nancy but we don’t actually see that in her Vecna-induced vision?)…. Towards the end, Dustin and Erica are the only two left on the battlefield. Mikes character was wiped out earlier on. They decide to fight to the death instead of running away, they gamble. Dustin rolls an 11 - a miss. Then, simultaneously, the Sinclair siblings go for the winning shot (Lucas getting the ball in the laundry basket in his game, and Erica rolling a 20 in hers). They both succeed, and the games are won.
So - my view on this…. At first I thought it was another hint Mike might die in s5 (the other one being Vecna showing Nancy her whole family dead as a future ‘vision’, half of which have already come true). But then by that logic, it would mean Dustin and Erica would face off against vecna which, while that would be cool? It doesn’t fit the narrative of the show so far and would be completely left field. So I think that’s more hinting that it would come down to two people….
And who make the winning shots simultaneously? Erica and Lucas. Siblings. 11 doesn’t work, but 20 does. Since I first heard about it, I have been a big fan of the theory of the wonder twins El and Will taking down vecna because El can’t do it alone (which was foreshadowed in the game and came true in the final episode of s4). I think this (siblings winning the game together, simultaneously, in two different places at the same time - upside down and right side up?) heavily implies that.
Also on top of that, everyone doubted Erica at the beginning, even Mike and Dustin seemingly went to ask her as a last resort when everyone they asked in school said no. But she took the winning shot. The underdog took the winning shot (including Lucas who was benched right until the end of the game but won it for them at the last second). Who else has been the underdog throughout the whole show? Who has been benched/on the sidelines for a long time now? Will 👀 and we know s5 is gonna be his season.
I dunno, I just had a moment of clarity while rewatching it (originally to just see our Mike be a happy little geeky again haha), and now I’m even more sure of/excited for the wonder twins El and Will to save the world.
…….
I just really really hope I was wrong about Mike 😭
