Black Mirror and Netflix and Streamberry
I saw many people were a bit baffled as to why Netflix would allow Black Mirror to criticise them in the first two episodes of season 6.
Because it's part of Netflix's business strategy.
If they had not allowed it, the makers of Black Mirror would have most likely kicked up a stink. That would have hurt Netflix's brand further (they have been facing backlash for months now, the latest being the "one household per account" fiasco). Censorship never looks good for any brand (at least in the West; companies have no problems editing out scenes from shows that are deemed "not appropriate" for certain cultural contexts (and by that I mean: what authoritarian regimes think is appropriate and what promotes "corrupted Western values").
Allowing Black Mirror to criticise its brand serves three purposes for Netflix:
It distracts from the other criticisms.
It shows that they are conscious of the problem. Many digital companies do this now. Look at Meta: Instagram has introduced tools to regulate teenagers' consumption of the app. Facebook promises to have stricter rules regarding harmful content. But, and this is the most important part, will these episodes substantially change Netflix's business model? No. The release of content on Netflix is carefully planned (as we have seen in Joan is Awful).
Netflix won't release any new true crime content over the next few weeks (it's also summer and people don't want to be down too much). My guess is they will wait until autumn comes around, when the days get shorter, and people spend more time inside which means they will use streaming services more and will crave more content that "fits" the season. So, a few weeks before Halloween we will see some new true crime content on Netflix or perhaps a "crime drama" based on a true story. And we will see Halloween costumes inspired by these shows. Some people will then criticise Netflix and point to the Black Mirror episodes which, conveniently, you can watch on Netflix. So you don't even have to leave Netflix to see critical content about Netflix. That takes away potential content from competing streaming services. And Netflix knows that only a marginal number of people, if any, will cancel their Netflix subscriptions because of Black Mirror. If Black Mirror was this powerful, everyone who watched it would have deleted their social media and thrown their phones into the ocean by now.

I really enjoyed this season of Black mirror, even with the demons and the werewolves. It was a fun switch up, plus the tech stuff was still good!
Loved the Streamberry gimick and all the Easter eggs 🤪
Don't want to make this post too long so I'll say a couple of sentences for each episode:
1) Joan is Awful - Strong, funny episode and the actors killed it! Everyone on Joan's life was insane for not immediately supporting her lmao (Krish included!), a tv show about her life is special circumstances. (Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek were awesome)
2) Loch Henry - I knew that that Janet was mad sketch. I felt so bad for Davis and Pia: she deserved better! (Also people are TERRIFYING)
3) Beyond the Sea - honestly what did Cliff expect? David was wild though, to be fair grief does make you crazy lol. Wearing the replica and seeing Lana did NOT help.
4) Mazey Day - I'm glad the paparazzi got killed, it's what they deserved and I hope it hurt. Also lol werewolves
5) Demon 79 - I can't even put in words how grateful I was that Nida wasn't crazy and hallucinating 😭. I loved her and Gaap, and I chose to see their ending as a happy one!
Over all its was a great season and if you want to see some more of our thoughts, feel free to watch our YouTube video! Don't forget to comment and let us know what you think 😁

Black Mirror Season 6 Review
Black Mirror is a show that has such high concepts usually set in the world of technology or the supernatural in some regard. Season 6 was no different and featured 5 episodes of varying themes and length. Let's take a look at them one by one.
Joan is Awful-  This one was a fun, easy concept about privacy and the new age of content. Joan finds her own life streaming one night, and her life begins to unravel. Starring Annie Murphy, Salma Hayek, Ben Barnes and Michael Cera this episode pokes fun at terms and conditions, whether or not we ever truly have privacy in today's age and the possibility of what AI may be able to create in the next few years.  Score 8.5/10

Loch Henry - Set in the Scottish countryside, Davis and his girlfriend Pia are setting off to film a documentary. Their plans change when they learn of a shocking local secret. This is my favorite episode of the season by far. It shows the intricacies of making film as the entire process is on display. It also shows just how personal some things can be, and sometimes dredging up old secrets is not a good idea. The second half is filled with so much tension, and it truly elevated the big shocking twist. Score 9.5/10
Beyond The Sea-  Set in an alternative 1969, two men are on a space mission into deep space. A new technology allows them to be on the space station and, through a robotic body replica, still spend time on earth with their loved ones. Aaron Paul is the stand-out here along with Kate Mara as they get the bulk of the screen time. The themes presented here are about loneliness, love, and grief. The second half is very heavy, but it never quite reaches the level one was hoping for. Score 7/10
Mazey Day- A group of Paparazzi chase celebrities for scandalous stories. Bo wants out but a massive payday lures her back in when a young starlet just disappears from a movie set without any explanation. This one was the simplest approach with the coolest looking twist. It was also the shortest and straight to the point episode of the season. It didn't pull any punches and continues the theme of the season which focuses on privacy and secrets. Score 8/10
Tumblr media
Demon 79- Nia works in a department store and finds her life mundane. One day, when taking her break in the lunch room, she accidentally creates a blood pact with an ancient demon. The task is to kill three people or bring about the apocalypse in three days. This episode was good, even if it was a bit all over the place. It dealt with facing the question of sacrifice for the greater good. It dealt with themes of good vs. evil and choosing what kind of person you want to be in this life. It was thoroughly entertaining, and as the tension mounts, you truly begin to understand the weight of the struggle. Score 8/10

Black Mirror x "Joan Is Awful" (prod. Charlie Brooker).
At the core of the latest [...] season is the exploration of the toll the entertainment we consume takes from us thanks to an endless string of "prestige" television often based on the real-life trauma of others in the vein of true crime adaptations and how or why they are produced for audiences in the first place.

Black Mirror 6: Mazey Day
For me it was the weakest episode from the season.
The cliffhanger with the werewolf didn’t make sense at all!
I understand that they wanted to show us that each one of us is corruptible for an amount of money (and paparazzi are awful and monsterous). But it was too farfetched.
Maybe they wanted to show us whom are the true monsters here.
This episode is tided up with the episode “Sea of Tranquility” as Justin Camley make a cameo before dying.
The name of the club “Quagmire” is a reference to the club of the same name that appear in San Junipero.
Sydney Alberti and her sex tape are based on Paris Hilton.
There is a clue with the song Supermassive Black Hole when Mazey’s driving, because the song is heavily featured in the twilight movies.
In summary, here the money outweighs the moral Bo has towards it.
The paps go after their prey without any regards towards them.
The last scene can be a representation of the death of Lady Diana and what happened in the tunnel in Paris.
The camera lame is what Bo has become.
Some goods quotes: “- Nick’s offering 30K for the first photo of her. - 30K? - 30K. Forty if you catch her looking like a junkie.”
“- Can you get me better?  - Well, it’s about getting you through tonight. And then the next night. Then we see.”
“- Any clue who the one person is?  - Someone rich who wants to get straight on the down-low.”
“- Fucking privacy screen. Which means whatever they do on the other side.”

Black Mirror 6x01: "Joan is Awful"
Black Mirror 6×01: “Joan is Awful” Directed by Allie Pankiw Written by Charlie Brooker * For recaps & reviews of previous Black Mirror seasons, click here. * For a recap & review of 6×02, click here. Joan (Annie Murphy) works at a place called Sonicle. She’s preparing to let an employee go. Not a pleasant experience, though much more unpleasant for the employee, Sandy (Ayo Edebiri), especially…

yes joan is awful and loch henry were good. overall I really enjoyed this season. but in my opinion netflix absolutely takes the piss whenever it acts all "uwu we're self aware look how creepy hegemonic, data hoarding streaming platforms and their overbearing tailored content are!! follow us on twitter for more quirky meta social commentary!!"

The new black mirror season is so good! Like I know the last season was a huge disappointment and kinda felt like the show had run it’s course. But OMG I’ve only finished the first two episodes but already they are some of my most favorite episodes to date!

so, loch henry.
i mean, HOLY FUCK.
i actually really, really liked this one! i have some thoughts that give me pause, but overall this was such a good episode!
so, our true crime obsession episode. that's actually a very clever idea for a black mirror episode, cause it's definitely very current yet grounded in reality, and it made for a very interesting episode.
the plot twist...yeah, i didn't see that one coming, i'll be honest! sincerely left me with my jaw hanging. if anything, it's a damn good little thriller!
but yeah, the true crime criticism...i'll be honest, for a moment i thought we were kinda losing the plot of that because of it being such a good fun thriller and kinda moving away from the effect these shows can have on the victims, families, communities, etc...but man, the ending. the revitalized morbid tourism industry, the awards and the fame, the blatant disregard the studio has for the actual victims involved in the story, already planning to turn it all into a dahmer-esque franchise...and the shot at the very end with davis and his BAFTA, reading his mom's note, and crying...MAN THAT WAS GOOD.
that all said...i do feel very weirded out by all this being a NETFLIX PRODUCT, y'know? netflix? the ones that help contribute to all this true crime mania? feels disingenuous for that. i mean, it's not on the writers, they probably wanted to tell this story and that's great, but with this and last episode being all 'haha netflix evil' it's like...ok cut it with the self-referential bullshit, ok?
last unrelated note, but is it streamberry or is it netflix? cause stuart mentioned netflix, but in-universe it's streamberry? or do both exist?
wait, scariest part of the whole thing was that their bathroom had a glass window on the door. wtf.
yeah this one was good i loved it.
