I am in no way saying I will do/complete multiple playthroughs of this game because that feels like tempting fate to make me not finish any playthrough, and I am superstitious, but in the event I DO do more than one, I'm going to start tagging my bg3 posts about the party in this playthrough as "squad without the s." I'm following the time honored tradition of naming one's d&d party after your first major arc. just a PSA for if you want to see or avoid those posts!

Better Luck Next Year
Requested by @jessromanoff
Summary: You try to prank Nat but it doesn't work out the way you wanted it to.
A/N: as someone who loves pranks people like Nat can be really frustrating.
PSA: Do NOT copy, steal, translate, plagiarize, republish, etc any of my works on Tumblr or any other platform. Also, do NOT claim any of my works as your own. All of these works are either requests I’ve gotten that people have wanted me to write or original ideas I’ve had for works. If you happen to take inspiration from anything I’ve written and want to write something inspired by that, please a) ask me first and b) IF I say yes, credit me as inspo in your post by tagging me and link whatever work of mine that inspired you. Thanks.

It was Halloween. Which meant one thing.
Pranks.
You have spent the whole day scaring the occupants of the compound. Your favourites so far were Peter who jumped onto the ceiling out of panic and Steve who let out the most obscene string of curses anyone had ever hurt.
Your mission had been successful so far but one thing was still missing.
You wanted to scare Nat, the prankster herself, and it was turning out to be a bit more difficult than you originally thought.
Jump scares didn't work and so did just throwing things at her because she would either a) just dodge the object or b) simply catch it mid-air.
After countless of failed attempts you got yourself some help. Convincing Peter he wouldn't be victim of your pranks anymore and you would take the blame im something went wrong, he was in, helping you to plan the perfect prank.
Your plan was to make the compound look haunted, with the help of J.A.R.V.I.S and Peters webs. You wouldn't believe it but Nat was the most superstitious with things like that, right after Wanda and Tony.
So you crafted an elaborate plan, timed everything up to the last second and even got Buckys help with a tricky part in the hangar. Everything was perfectly planned, every scenario thought through.
But it didn't work.
Frustrated you watched through the vents as Natasha simply walked through the hallways, headphone on and humming some pop song, munching on some of Yelenas Halloween candy.
You watched a couple more minutes until you gave up, climbing out of the vents and dusting of your clothes that were full of dust and other things you didn't want to think too much about.
Plopping down on the couch besides the redhead you stole a chocolate bar from her lap, taking a frustrated bite.
"We're you attempting to scare me?" She asked innocently as she was removing the wrapper from a piece of candy.
"I have been for the past 5 hours, but thanks for noticing." You admitted a bit defeated.
"Oh I have noticed." She answered with a sly smile, "but it was too funny to see you struggle to say anything."
Your head whipped around as she said that and you just stared at her as she winked at you and got up.
"Better luck next year, bunny."

Look, I don't want to be that guy - but this is a reminder that depicting the (now strongly) Jewish-coded Devoraks* as the Devil or vampires is genuinely antisemitic (whether that's the intention or not).
Don't do that.
(This is just a PSA not a call-out post - but yeah it's bad form for either of those things - I understand if you didn't know, but you should be aware.)
TW: Discussion of Antisemitism
In regards to the belief (which people STILL HOLD TODAY) that Jewish people have horns or are otherwise monstrous in form**:
"A widespread medieval negative image of the Jew was based upon a misinterpretation of the Hebrew Bible. Moses was often depicted with two horns on his head as a result of the Latin mis-rendering of the verb “sent forth beams” (karan) in Exodus 34:35 as “grew horns.” (A horn is a keren.) This image, which was widely portrayed in art of the Middle Ages by artists including Michelangelo and Donatello in Italy, led to the widespread notion that all Jews had devilish horns."
This very much has modern trickle-down implications: "The Nazis seized upon the negative Jewish body image and used caricatures and other forms of propaganda to present the Jews as sub-human or as disfigured humans.  The Nazi weekly Der Sturmer was famous for disseminating these images." (I will not link them here, suffice to say they are as bad as you can imagine.)
Ties to the Christian Devil*** in relation to Judaism and how this is antisemitic are more than enough for books on the topic which discuss the world's current unfortunate state of antisemitism and it's historical roots.
-
Vampirisim**** ties directly to blood libel - again something antisemities still use in their arsenal of anti-Jewish rhetoric.
"Blood libel, also called blood accusation, the superstitious accusation that Jews ritually sacrifice Christian children at Passover to obtain blood for unleavened bread. It first emerged in medieval Europe in the 12th century and was revived sporadically in eastern and central Europe throughout the medieval and modern periods, often leading to the persecution of Jews."
And it's not just 'in old times': "In the 1930s the blood libel became part of Nazi propaganda. It was subsequently a staple of anti-Semitic propaganda in parts of Europe and the Arab world."
These ARE very much things with modern, current issues and implications in our world, where antisemitic rhetoric and practice have genuine, terrible repercussions for an already marginalized people.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
*Even if trying to distance themselves from real-world religious practices, as NyxHydra has claimed, they have still chosen to depict the Devoraks as having Jewish names, kosher practices, and Julian is straight-up based on a Jewish man (Jeff Goldblum), as well as NyxHydra showing endorsement of the Jewish head-canon for the characters.
**Yes, this does mean bird Julian is on thin ice, but that's a more nuanced issue - as that is a result of his own inner emotional turmoil, and while caricatures involving birds have been used in anti-Jewish propaganda it's less of a staple - still worth critical thought though.
***The Devil as depicted in the Arcana seems to be a Faustian archetype, rather than explicitly a character out of Christian mythology, however, the tie is still there in name, form, and implication.
****Totally inappropriate side-note: personality-wise don't you think Julian would rather be the VICTIM than the VAMPIRE? Come on...

A PSA for my followers: I have never, and will never, reblog "guilt trip" or superstitious posts
I don't reblog posts that feed on superstition, not even positive ones that are supposed to bring you money or good news. And I never reblog guilt trip ones, not even if the subject of the post is something I promote or agree with. As someone who is affected negatively by those posts when I see them cross my dash, I don't want to spread those to my followers.
Also, any way we can start a trend to tag those posts with something like "#guilt trip" or "#superstition" so people can block those tags?

PSA About Blog and Life (You can ignore the life part.)
Okay hey ya guys! It’s me! Cinbunli or more known as Mod Lea, and it’s been awhile. A month technically in not posting, but then again I didn’t really do that in the month before as well, excluding the drawing request I did, which is something I will talk about within this PSA, which I should point out the main thing about this PSA is to tell you that I am refreshing this blog for myself, as in redecorating the way my blog looks and resetting my requests to have a fresh start, though everything I have posted beforehand will still be up.
The reason why I am doing that is because I need a new refresh on this blog, as I haven’t been up to date with it, since the moment I had got this and I only really did actual requests once in a blue moon, whether it be because of my course or my own dyslexia and other reasons, and this blog now gives me anxiety at times when I look at the requests given to me, and even though looks actually quite little, I can look and see that some of them mostly the scenarios have been there for almost a whole year since I started and haven’t got around to them, and I didn't want to feel that way anymore and start fresh. I want to reset so I can focus more on actually fulfilling the requests given to me instead of not worrying about ones I haven’t done yet, which holds me back. While I say that though if there was a request you were looking forward to or still want please request it again, as one of the reasons I am doing it is because seeing as some of them are requested about a year ago, I don’t know if the person requesting it is still around or still want it. Also, I say this refresh includes all requests, even the 100 followers drawing request (which I didn’t get much response off and I am planning to re-post it for next month instead, starting from the first of September.) and match-ups, not just scenarios and headcanons.
That was my main point and I hope you understood what I wrote above, but it is something that I need to do for myself, the reason it caused me anxiety and for other reasons. My life has been quite eventful recently since Canada, and I decided to become a hermit for the past month because of it, just listening to music or wanting to sleep, not really leaving my house unless I had to, and if you don’t want to know then you can ignore the next paragraph about it, but it is something that has affected me and I have kept in for a long time, and I need to let it out and it seems this is how I am doing it, and I know many will not care or if a bunch of strangers see it, but I’ll put it under a cut.
Okay so if you read the posts that I made in Canada (Excluding my Amino app I was planning on creating, which I did, but found I can’t do anything with, which is not the point.) I have made post about being homesick or being sad, and it is nothing to do with Canada, Canada was lovely and amazing and I was so happy to see my friends over there, but during that trip I was sad and there were a couple of reasons for it, such as my mental illness, but there was one that made a bigger impact on me. Now some may not believe it or think I am crazy for believing this way for what I am going to write about it, but it is what I believe. First things first I am a Christian, I have always been and I officially chose myself to be Christened, due to an event that happened, which people make fun off and don’t believe, which is in there right to, but it was one of the deciding factor of my life, which in fact got me closer to my dad, as something spiritual happened to him as well, but I won’t get into that, but religion and in fact supernatural stuff (though not directly at me, so I can’t really say.) has happened to our lives. For example my family had a fire, the moment my father decided to try and take a religious course to become a priest, and it was in the space where my dad had all his bibles, which ended up burning in the fire and a cross was etched into a wall, which we believed was attack from the devil, and the only reason it didn’t go further was because was because of God setting it up for it to happen on the day all of us was at home, so we could stop it from burning our house down and killing our dog, but anyway… I am a religious and superstitious person and while I was in Canada (And I was in Canada for 20 days) whenever I went to sleep, almost and I mean almost every night I dreamed I dreamt of my dad dying and not be there for my return. Now before Canada and during my the last two months of my BA Honours course, my mum had been trying to get my Dad to go and see a Doctor, but seeing as he was afraid of them, he mostly always refused, and it got to the point that actually once I was in Canada. Mum finally forced him to go, but I didn’t know till until after a couple of nights, when I began having these dream, and that I found out that while I was gone they had diagnosed him with Cancer, he wasn’t producing any blood, and his heart had gotten weak, but my mother said that everything would be fine, until three days before I left, and I got a skype call saying that my dad might die that night, luckily in the end it wasn’t the case, but during my dreams I felt like it was God trying to tell me that this was going to happen, and I quickly got a flight back to see him. (Doing so finding out more about my family that I never knew about before, which made me write the post that my family now seemed like the family tree of once upon a time, because now it has, but to simply put it I thought I was the youngest of four children, only to find out it’s now seven and it could of been ten if three didn’t die.) He’s at home now, but we’ve found out he has months to a year to live, which is better seeing that he could have died on that day and I could not have been there, but because of that it caused me to become a hermit and hide away from the rest of the world for a while, but I am slowly coming back, and it’s one of the reasons I want to do a refresh on this blog, so I have somewhere I can go to and occupy myself, but not feeling the anxiety of the requests I believed I failed in doing, while I try and look for a job, while also taking care of my father. Anyway sorry for me venting in this part, but thank you to anyone who reads this, I just needed to get it out. I don’t know if any of this is readable, so yeah. Anyway I am know gonna finish talking.

FAQ: ‘#superstitious posts’ tagging
Original Post | This post last updated 24 Jan 2021.
Q. Why can’t I just use the ‘#rb bait’ / ‘#reblog bait’ / ‘____’ tag(s) instead?
Uh, you can? I’m not in charge of anyone’s specific tag procedures, so you can do whatever you want to.
The reason that a distinct separate tag would be more helpful, though, is that “reblog bait” tags cover... a lot broader spectrum of posts, including things like ‘put x in the tags’ posts or ask memes or other such game posts. (Also explained in my reblog and answer.) If that doesn’t bother someone, then blocking that whole tag means they don’t get any of that other stuff either.
I mean, they could click it open, but they wouldn’t have any means of knowing which posts were safe. So. It’d be nice if you could add the ‘#superstitious posts’ tag to that particular kind, as to make them easier to avoid.
Q. Couldn’t you just reblog them privately or to a sideblog that doesn’t have any followers?
Okay, well, that’s one technique to reduce the spread of them, but it doesn’t actually... solve the fact of seeing them and being distressed. Or, you know, not wanting to have to fulfill a compulsion every 40th post on one’s dash. Or the general lasting anxiety/paranoia, because the problem isn’t always having to reblog, it can be a self-contained stressor/trigger. Plus, not every post is ‘reblog for x.’ Sometimes they’re framed like, ‘if you see this post at all, (blah blah).’
Basically, that’s a fine band-aid and all, to an extent; just, you know... seems like it would be better if people had the option of not encountering the problem in the first place.
Q. I think ___ is a better term / the tag ‘superstitious posts’ for this kind of thing doesn’t personally appeal to me.
ok
Q. “Superstitious” is hard to spell, though.
Yeah dunno what to tell u about that buddy. English is kind of a whack language.
Q. I’ve reblogged a post like that one or more time/s in my life and I’m SO sorry!
No self-flagellation necessary; I ain’t judging on the past. The PSA was just meant to be informative for future practices, not a reprimand. (-:
Q. If I make or share a post like those described, especially if it’s an immunity or good luck post, does it help to include an assurance that just seeing it once is enough / that you don’t have to reblog?
Depends; read my answer here.

re: ’#superstitious posts’ tagging [part 1.]
Q: If the problem is having to reblog a post because of compulsion, what about [ ...just doing it and feeling better / ...sharing to a private sideblog / ...seeing posts you don’t have to reblog ] ?
@justeasing Why is it an issue to reblog this stuff? I know the initial stress doesnt help, but I thought it was relieved by the reblog? 🤔 Idk, I guess I'm confused and need more context. I just don't see the harm in just reblogging it anyways...
Anonymous Idle question, since I don't have a brain that's susceptible to superstitious posts--I've seen variations on immunity posts that say something like "you don't have to interact with this at all, just seeing it once grants immunity." obviously I think that should be tagged as well since it can interact poorly with a lot of forms of magical thinking, but do disclaimers like that help at all with any compulsions to reblog or is the superstitious element enough to override any specific instructions?
@standfortheangels What about the posts that don't require you to do anything? I've seen ones with like a picture of a cute dog saying stuff like 'seeing this post means you're immune to chain posts, you can now scroll past them and they can't do anything bc this dog is protecting you'. So I'm asking A- should those still be tagged as superstitious posts? (I'm assuming yes for now) and B- do they actually help or do they give people the same uneasy feelings? (Any/all replies are welcome~)
@tania-grey just to check and make sure, are the immunity posts designed to bring relief from these superstitious posts exempt from the tag itself? Should they maybe have their own tag of #immunity post for extra peace of mind for those who need it?
I already responded to some of these, so I will copy/paste my answers to those here first:
re: anon ask
“It honestly just varies. Some people would find it helpful, others wouldn’t.
Personally, I have about the same instinctive reaction whether it has a reassurance like that or not, because the overall format / established concept in general evokes the response. I’m trying to think how to explain it, and the best I can come up with is… it’s like the disclaimer affirms the rule? Like, to say ‘immunity is granted just by seeing it once’ is still saying ‘x effect is granted by witnessing this post,’ which just kind of… reinforces the general idea of ‘the things said in these posts have the results they state.’ If it didn’t accept the premise, then it wouldn’t be able to offer the immunity it does, if that makes sense.
So, for me, it doesn’t fit into my little brain rules for one statement of the same type to overrule other statements, since they’re all the same form of compulsion. Again, that’s just one example, though – it’s always going to depend on the function provoked in each particular viewer.”
re: standfortheangels
“A- yes! B- [link to above answer] (: hope this helps”
re: tania-grey
“I personally would suggest that immunity posts are included under the tag. [link to above answer] <— I explain why a bit here. Each person will react differently; some people are helped by the immunity posts, so if that’s strongly the case for your personal sphere of blog connections, maybe you will choose to leave them untagged or tag them differently/additionally. But for accessibility for the greatest variation of people, my rule of thumb advice would be that the option to remove all such posts (positive, negative, reblog-necessary, view-only, immunity, etc) is of greater benefit than to cover only some kinds.”
I’m going to break up my FAQ responses for accessibility, so see the next post for the rest of my explanation.

Am I a fake schizophrenic if the safety superstition posts make me feel better? They make me comforted but they’re not supposed to and I feel bad
Yo, not at all. I mentioned this a little previously, but there are a wide range of possible reactions to superstitious/luck posts. They might have no reaction, might have a universally negative reaction, might have a variant stress reaction, or whether the reaction is positive or negative can depend on the content of the post. There’s no “supposed to” about how you respond.
I keep track of the tags and replies for that post, and there are a myriad of other people who have expressed the same thing: the ‘good’ effect posts soothe or reassure them, and many use immunity posts as a reminder for the self to counter stress from ‘bad’ effect posts. (That perception is actually common enough that it’s part of why I posted in the first place - not everyone realizes that positive superstition posts even CAN cause distress. For a lot of people they do, but it’s not universal.)
Basically, TL;DR: no. Feeling comforted is not abnormal or wrong.

Gosh thank you for the superstitious post thing I thought I was just ridiculous. I’m getting better now but those things used to make me feel so bad and I would have to scroll through the post to find the “immunity cat” type things so that I could feel better cause it’s like introducing a new rule to counteract the old rule and...yeah thank you. Now it just stresses me out and I have to scroll really past fast them. Oh god you know what else that’s sorta in the same line that stresses me out? Those chain mail type things like “because you’re reading this” or “90% of people marry their 7th grade crush” those make me so anxious. I’ve got several “immunity” images saved to try to combat it but it still gives me a fear response when I read it. I wish people would tag those too. Sadly I see them most as comments on Pinterest so that probably can’t happen. But thank you!
I’m again just really grateful for the people sharing or coming to tell me that they relate to the same issue - so thanks back for saying so. And you’re very welcome! I’m encouraged by the spread that it may become more standardized to tag for posts like this, and I’ll be really glad to see people being able to go about their virtual lives with better assurance of comfort and safety from spontaneous stressors.

Okay hi tumblr..,..
What’s up. I have OCD and anxiety, and here on tungl dot com, there is a nice little type of post that makes my blood pressure flip the fuck out every time, and it’s those “if you are reading this [x]” / “reblog and [y] will happen” type reblog memes
You know the ones: money cat, lucky xyz post, that sort of shit. The revival of old school yahoo viral email chains. Even immunity rabbit or whatever – same premise. Anything that says, ‘By reading or reblogging this post, you are activating some specific effect.’
Basically, most people can probably ignore them easily if they don’t like them; but others, especially those with particular psychological conditions (aka, ME) can actually suffer stress responses to posts like this. Obsessive-compulsive, schizophrenic spectrum, anxious, paranoid, magical thinking type disorders especially can see a superstitious post and have it automatically activate an anxious or compulsive reaction, because to the brain, it’s like a new rule/parameter has suddenly been introduced to your environment without warning. Now suddenly, whatever atypical structures frame your brain function have to accommodate for an alien factor. <- I don’t know if any of this really makes sense; it’s hard to articulate in a NT-accessible manner, but hopefully the general gist comes through.
Anyway. So far it’s been basically impossible for me (and therefore, I presume, others as well) to avoid posts like this, because they don’t tend to have any sort of universally recognized term to tag warn for. As a result I’m basically always playing Russian roulette with my dashboard.
A while ago, I asked tweeter followers to vote on the best thing to call these, and most agreed that ‘superstitious posts’ was fitting. So now I’m asking tomblr users to consider making my life and others’ lives easier and less stressful in One Easy Step:
Please
tag for #superstitious posts !
It would... honestly make a big difference if this were standardized and I will be eternally grateful ❤️😪
(Ok & encouraged for ppl to reblog this!!!)
