It’s not that the T0G fandom is calmer, it’s that it’s not as active because it’s a finished series. But back in its hey day, it was just as toxic as the ACOTAR fandom, if not more so because LB and Morgan Rhodes stans were also involved. if SJM still plans on doing that TOG encyclopedia thing, where she said she’d throw in what the characters were doing after the end of the series, bet you’ll see it. But when people called out the racism, especially after what happened to Nehemia and then to Sorcha just one books later, they were bullied for it. When people called out the homophobia because there were only TWO gay characters in three and half books, they were bullied for it. When SJM assassinated Chaol’s character for Rowan and switched the endgame ship from Doraelin to Rowaelin and people were upset about it and calling it out for bad writing, they were bullied for it. When people called out how Malide was perfectly set up, only for them to forced into relationships with men, and after it was exposed that SJM would roll her eyes whenever someone asked about them at an event and after she said there would be a wlw ship in the book after qos aka the book with malide in it, only for it to be about a throwaway sentence about Manon’s grandmother, they were bullied for it.

SJM’s fandom has always been toxic because she’s the one who makes it that way. It will never get better until SJM acknowledges her own hypocrisy and that what she’s written has been harmful, but since she even refuses to take questions about these things, it’s never going to happen.

I didn’t get all the way through the T0G series so I was wondering: why do so many fanarts of Alien feature her with a crown of fire?

Because her magic is fire based until the end of the series where she jaenelle angelines it and loses everything but a tiny spark of water magic or whatever

I don't THINK she ever has an actual crown made of fire in the series (though she makes one on Rowan at some point) but she does have the glowing brannon mark/mark of the nameless on her brow or whatever. I think these things combine to great effect in people's imaginations.

It's really sad how t0g took a steep nosedive into protagonist centered morality. The first few books let everyone be flawed but after that.. it was either you agree with Alien, who is always right, or you are bad, with no in between.

it’s a very strange phenomenon, yknow? i wonder what made it shift—maybe bc sjm was getting more pushback on her problem areas? maybe bc she started rejecting editorial notes?

one of my favorite things to think about w regard to her is how the meeting must have gone where she was told she’s being outsourced to a new editor and this time she actually has to listen to her editor when the editor says she needs to fix or change something. it’s very obvious she still has some freedom to blanket reject notes, but you can see some minor improvements here or there—not with any consistency, mind you, but her latest books are still a little more readable. it’s not that she’s gotten better as a writer (pfft as if) but she’s very clearly been told “listen to your editor” and i’d love to know what reason they gave her to make her listen

It’s funny because same sex mates are canon in T0G but we only see it with two (maybe three?) side couples who end up being completely irrelevant and only to further the hetero’s story. (See: Emrys being the one to save Celaena by forcing Rowboat to stop being an ass, Rowboat’s cousin helping in the war?? I think Darrow was also someone’s mate?)

The plots and magic for T0G doesn’t make sense because the first three books are leading up to a different story than the last four since it was at the end of book 3, but definitely in book 4 where S//JM decided to change the endgame ship to R//owan and A//elin. So she had to change everything to get them to end up together. (She admitted it in an interview.)

I'm assuming this is about my kind of old TOG posts about either the sealing the Wyrdkey scene or about things that don't make sense in general? Yeah, I did know she decided for some reason to switch from Doraelin to Rowaelin (I've read I think most of the original storyline she had and OH MY, I have to say the published one is much much better in terms of general themes and storylines, but the endgames T.T) which might affect some of the plotlines and destroy some of her foreshadowing/theme-ing/setup, but I don't really see how this would affect the overall magic of TOG and all the plots? A lot of what I mentioned I feel like could have been addressed even with the switch... (but maybe you're referring to something in particular, I'm not sure which?)
