Hi! I have been thinking about Marc and the ways he expresses his anger... giving the cold shoulder... the silent treatment if you will (he will speak ABOUT vale but not TO vale let alone WITH vale)... need your input please....
hmm good question.... this got. STUPID long sorry
uhhh marc is, in general, good at keeping his (negative) emotions in check. like i think marc loooooves to think of himself on track as a mature, controlled, and rational dude. above distraction. a killer. a cyborg. idk his dad has talked about how he doesnt really complain much about injury and there's also allll these stories about what a mature kid he was... so i think that when he was young - ESPECIALLY in a racing sense because he was so much younger than most of the people he was competing against - he internalized that in order to do all the stuff he wants to do racing-wise, he reallyyyy has to keep a level head and not well. act his age! and i think that extends to a lot of how he manages his emotions today (at least in a public setting). even in places where im pretty sure hes PISSED (sepang. phillip island 2013.) he just kind of. visibly contains himself. not a confrontational dude in the outright sense he'll clench his jaw and try to work through it.
which is part of what makes his valentino-oriented crazy so interesting. bc people were noticing that marc in 2015 was kind of. being weird. as his and valentino's relationship deteriorated. like they were both outwardly very much like we can keep it on track :) until the big fallout towards the end of the year but uhhhh. well marc has said that vale started pulling back in september of 2014 like he was noticing SOMETHING, and they clashed on track A LOT in 2015, and i think marc sensed vale cooling on him and freaked a lil. hashtag neurotic 22 year old moments. he is my favorite crazy ex girlfriend. like usually he IS good at separating that stuff out and managing his emotions in the racing sense but in assen that year when vale overtook him off track after they made contact he raised a BIG stink with race direction and actually had some uh. not especially chill quotes about it. (it should be noted marc was also flopping for the first time in his motogp career. like in his brain he stopped winning AND vale stopped talking to him he was goin through it) adn all the reporters noticed too they were like. why werent you sucking and fucking in parc ferme. like vale's left turn wrt to spaniard sabotage comes outta nowhere but people WERE noticing that things were changing. i bet marc noticed too. BUT they are not the type of people to talk about these things so they keep it to vague flirting in presscons and escalating on-track tension slash proxy wars waged in race-direction contexts... liek truly you are 22 you are not going to keep your championship title and your hot sports idol bestie is no longer flirting with you on twitter and you COULD just talk to him about that but you'd rather DIE so youre going to ask honda to back you up to race direction about your last race where you DEFINITELY lost bc winning is the ONLY thing thatll make you feel better. even though thatll help convince your hot sports idol that you are engaging in a benedict arnold level betrayal scheme against him. an insane time to be marc marquez. 2015 really kind of is a study on how both of them handle losing: NOT WELL.
and then the thing about sepang is that then the lid is blown clean off and marc spends the ENTIRE race being annoying on purposeeeee. hes so fucking pissed and hurt at valentino that he decides to get under his skin for REALSIES instead of focusing on his race. like idk he probably would have fought hard for the win without the drama that how he works but uh. i think he was being annoying specifically to bite at vale's edges. and part of that is bc marc is naturally and effortlessly annoying. but i think part of it was SPITE. like his team advised him not to speak on anything from that presscon and he didnt, but he can still fuck him over on track. get under his skin. like he cant tell vale to his FACE that he's angry and confused and hurt. but he CAN let him know on that fucking racing line. where he cant be ignored. idk like i cant see marc letting anyone else get under his skin like that.
AND another big ass exception to the marc marquez anger management philosophy is from misano 2019 where vale messes with his qualifying lap. a lovely anon sent me some videos of marc talking to the press and jesus christ i dont think ive ever seen him angrier oh my god. AND the anon also linked the race from that weekend where he won and he celebrated harder than ive seen him celebrate some TITLE wins like he went. notably nuts. the commentators were all like uhhhh. he mustve REALLY wanted to get one over on vale adjfhlkdh... idk if any of this answered your question but his relationship to his emotions fascinates me hes so weirddddd. and its interesting to me that he can shrug off jorge ruining his last race at honda and be friendly but also be like. kind of aloofly pissed at bezz. because of valentino! he can repress the rest of it, but valentino shines through the cracks.

The creators of She-Hulk legitimately don't know what they're doing
Tumblr media
I think a lot of people have heard the director state
"There's a lot of talk about her body type and we based it on Olympian athletes and not bodybuilders."
Does anyone want to know a specific "Olympian" they based She-Hulk's body off of?
"Olympian Misty Copeland was a body that we referenced, you know, of someone who was very, very, very strong, but also could walk through the world and operate in the normal world at a scale that is very large, but it's still very human because she has to go on dates she has to work in a regular office."
Tumblr media
Misty Copeland. Misty. Freaking. Copeland. She is a goddess and an icon. Here are some of her greatest accomplishments.
"2008 Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Arts and was named National Youth of the Year Ambassador for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 2013. In 2014, President Obama appointed Copeland to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. She is the recipient of a 2014 Dance Magazine Award and was named to the 2015 TIME 100 by TIME Magazine." - American Ballet Theatre
Misty Copeland is an amazingly talented person, who has dealt with immense struggles due to her body type, but she is not an Olympian. She's a ballerina. Ballet, by definition from Oxford Languages,
"...is characterized by light, graceful, fluid movements."
I'm especially pissed because when growing up, I was a ballerina. And my sister was a Track & Field thrower. When I heard of She-Hulk as a kid, I always imagined her looking like my sister. Looking like her build - not the ones of prima ballerinas.
Tumblr media
While writing this, I've been sitting here thinking about how many great ACTUAL Olympians they could have used as inspiration for She-Hulk's build.
Tumblr media
Raven Saunders aka The Hulk. 2020 Tokyo Olympics Silver Medalist in Shotput.
Tumblr media
Hidilyn Diaz. 2020 Tokyo Olympics Gold Medalist and Record Holder in 55 KG Weightlifting.
Tumblr media
Tamyra Mensah-Stock. 2020 Tokyo Olympics Gold Medal in Freestyle Wrestling.
There are so many incredible female Olympians they could have used as inspiration. There are so many strength-based sports. The Summer Olympics alone have 33 sports.
But they specifically wanted She-Hulk's build to be inspired by
"not bodybuilders."
Even if this meant putting more work on the VFX Artists of the show who made her larger to begin with. Sean Ruecroft, a VFX Artist who worked on Infinity War and Moon Knight, took to Twitter to let people know the struggles Marvel put their team through.
"I was at a company that did VFX for this. Apparently, she was bigger early on, but the notes kept saying to ‘make her smaller.'"
They put more work on the artists, pushing them into the same inspiration that was used for Natasha Romanoff.
Tumblr media
"...light, graceful, fluid movements."
Tumblr media
The creators didn't want a Hulk. They wanted grace, sex appeal, and a tiny waist on an hourglass figure.

fall out boy live performances i think about Often
the reunion show medley. how many goats do i have to sacrifice for you guys to do this one again.
disloyal order of water buffaloes, specifically the version that opens with the piano and the rest of the band comes crashing in at the second verse. my GOD man what do i have to do to make you do this version again
death valley live. thats all.
the time they did their stayin out all night remix live with wiz khalifa
the thriller aol sessions version is so good that i thought it was the studio version with mild reinstrumentation at first lol
the medley they did in 2015 where they mashed up all their hits and even managed to sneak in the uma thurman riffs at the end
can i link the entirety of the knights of columbus set? i'm gonna do that. go watch it. it's glorious.
i feel like not enough people talked about how good church sounded live. i actually kinda like it a little better than the studio version. patrick drops down an octave for some bits of the final chorus and i always love hearing his chest voice.
obviously i have to link one of the few times they've played headfirst slide into cooperstown on a bad bet live. they did (coffee's for closers) at this show too and i think about it always.
they didnt do where did the party go live that often because it is MERCILESSLY heard to sing live but my GOD. when they did it. my god.
that one performance of the kids aren't alright where pete screams alongside patrick for the entire last part of the chorus ruined me in ways i have difficulty articulating.
the way way early version of sugar we're goin down they played live in 2004 before they changed all the verses
anytime they'd do just one yesterday live and patrick would do the bridge and kill it every time
the acoustic version of sophomore slump or comeback of the year they did for a private show in 2007. (they did this acoustic again in 2013 and i love that version too)
that one time they segued seamlessly from the chorus of alone together to my songs know what you did in the dark
MISS MISSING YOU LIVE YOU ARE EVERYTHING TO ME
any of those rare rare times they would do yule shoot your eye out live
when they did patron saints of liars and fakes at one of the reunion shows. don't touch me.
the acoustic session of tttyg songs (grenade jumper, chicago is so two years ago, saturday) they did that's on the my heart will always be the b side to my tongue dvd. they are so so so SO small!!!!!
save rock and roll live is like. so important to me personally it never fails to bring me to my knees. but specifically the time they did it for the mda telethon in 2014. joes backing vocals come through sO clearly and its SOOOOO AAAAAA
also the time they did save rock and roll live for vevo. BIG ouchie.
okay also the time they dedicated save rock and roll to bowie after he passed because pete gets VERY VISIBLY EMOTIONAL OVER THIS and i can't handle it.
we don't take hits we write them literally Only exists in live format so i have to give a special mention to that. what i would give for a studio version though...
it's hard for me to pick a favorite moment of the time they played wrigley field during mania tour. i was lucky enough to catch a livestream of most of the show and it was frankly magic. someathing has to be said for the energy in the way the show began...and for the way it ended.
im incapable of not bringing up the immortals acoustic version they did during boys of zummer. i cant NOT. joe and patrick sound sO GOOD TOGETHER VOCALLY, OKAY
i'm like a lawyer with the way i'm always trying to get you off, acoustic sessions.....im okay.
remember when they opened some of the monumentour shows with THIS IS THE TAKE OVER, THE MOTHERFUCKING BREAK'S OVER cause. i do.
if youve never seen the stripped-down piano version of young and menace and only heard the studio instrumental i beseech you to watch the live version. i will never forget hearing this live. the whole stadium got so, so quiet in what i could only describe as reverence.
you know that one text post that talks about patrick getting all emotional during a performance of what a catch, donnie and then just sniffs a little and says "i'm a loss for words...which is a good thing i have a microphone, right? so i can keep talking." well this is that exact performance.

The Truth Of Behind Seventeen’s Rosalie
By Kim Iseul
Photography By Jeon Jisoo
Styled By Choi Harin
March 23, 2021
Interviewer: “Thank you for sitting down with us at Vogue today, Ms. Rosalie! We’re excited to have you.
Rosalie: [Smiles] “Oh well thank you for having me, I’m excited to be here!”
Interviewer: “You have such a beautiful name! Rosalie is just gorgeous but it’s not your birth name, it’s just a stage name?
Rosalie: “Yes it is a stage name!”
Interviewer: “How did you decide on Rosalie being the name for your Career instead of sticking with your birth name Jihye?”
Rosalie: “I love my birth name, do not get me wrong.” [Laughs] “Well my Dad is Korean so he chose my name Park Jihye where as my Mom is French and chose the name Rosalie Dumont, which is my Mama’s surname!”
Interviewer: “Oh really! It must’ve been nice growing up in France!”
Rosalie: [Holds her hands to her heart, pouting] “It was, I miss it so much.”
Rosalie: “But I was called Rosalie my whole life by all of my friends in France as well as my Mama’s side of the family, it kinda just stuck once I got to Korea for training? My dad started to call me Rosalie too. The only time I was called Jihye was by my Appa’s side of the family or when I was in serious trouble!”
Interviewer: [Nods her head] “Oh wow. Well I feel like it suits well!”
Rosalie: “Thank you!”
Interviewer: “Speaking of your training in Korea, tell me about that. How many years did you train to be an idol?”
Rosalie: “I trained for 2 years, from March 2013 to May 2015. It was a brutal couple of years.”
Interviewer: “Why do you say that?”
Rosalie: [She sighs] “Well I was brand new to the country. I mean I had visited every now and then to see my Grandma and Grandpa but never on my own for my own personal reasons. It was very hard for me to be there without my parents and little sister.”
Interviewer: “You seem very close to your family?”
Rosalie: “Oh, I am completely. When I was little I was very attached to my Appa and my Mama and wanted to do everything with them. If I was playing dollhouse, Appa had to join me but Mama had to be there too so she wasn’t left out! Ya know?”
Interviewer: [Nods and chuckles]
Rosalie: “When my little sister Valentine or Sarang, whichever you’d like to call her, came into the world my parents thought I would be upset but they told me they were suprised when all I wanted to do was hold her and play with her.” [She giggles] “My parents said if I got something like on my birthday I would immediately share it with Valentine! And Valentine is my little mini me, she loves to play dress up with my clothes and always facetimes me on Mama’s phone telling me all about her day!”
Rosalie: “Sorry I got a little carried away there! But, it was definitely a struggle for me to be away from them but i took any chance I could to see and talk to them! I still do!”
Interviewer: “That’s so sweet. It’s nice to see such a deep love someone has for their family!”
Interviewer: “Whenever you were training for those two years, supposedly only a quarter of it was spent training with the other female trainee’s and then the rest of your trainee period was spent with the males.”
Rosalie: “Ah! Yes, I was training for only maybe three (3) months with the other female trainee’s before the Pledis CEO requested that I train with these specific trainees. Which I thought was maybe a mix between both female and male because that’s what I was told” [Fake laughs] “But no I was training with the members that would turn out to be SEVENTEEN.”
Interviewer: “Did you get along with the boys when you first met? Was it awkward or did you just go about it as you would with your fellow female trainee’s at the time?”
Rosalie: “I think I got along with everyone when we were younger. I’m sure it was a bit awkward in the beginning because we were all told it was a mix of boys and girls and Pledis was finally going to debut a co-ed group, but no I was the only female and I didn’t think i ever got an explanation for that one!” [She laughs and scratches at her head in confusion]
Rosalie: “I mean technically Pledis did debut a co-ed group it’s just there is only one female compared to thirteen males.”
Interviewer: “I was meaning to ask you about that. You’ve never really spoken about the after effects of you debuting in a male dominated group, have you?”
Rosalie: “No I have not, but I’m assuming you would like too?” [She smiles]
Interviewer: “If that’s alright with you I would like to ask some questions regarding it.”
Rosalie: “Of course I don’t mind.”
Interviewer: “How was it for you when you first debuted in SEVENTEEN? Cause it did come to a shock to fans of other groups when news was released of a female debuting in a mostly male group.”
Rosalie: “Well, while we were all trainees we had those video logs the company would upload to the youtube channel and the comments weren’t too bad, I think some of them thought I was one of the boys younger sister who would just come around for no reason and had like ‘special’ permission to be with them.”
Interview: “That’s a way to look at it!” [She laughs]
Rosalie: “Oh yeah!”
Rosalie: “But I could handle those comments because it wasn’t anything personal! Most people just thought I was adorable and enjoyed my voice. Nobody took me seriously at that point and I don’t think I minded, but it gave me a false sense of security you could say.”
Interviewer: “It gave you a false sense of security for what would happen with your debuting?”
Rosalie: “Yes exactly! Maybe it was me being cocky or ignorant but I assumed everyone would like me and I wouldn’t have any problems but I was also 15 years old when I debuted with the boys so I was in my own LaLa Land at that point and focused on school and singing.
Rosalie: “When I did debut it was very 50/50 reactions. Some of korea loved me and some of korea hated me. It was very hard for me to come to terms with it. Again maybe it was an ego thing but I could not handle the fact that the people didn’t like me but I also didn’t want to bring the group. So I trusted in Pledis and hoped that everything would settle down.”
Interviewer: “It didn’t, did it?”
Rosalie: [Unenthusiastically laughs] “No, it did not.”
Rosalie: “There was the constant messages that I couldn’t keep up with the boys, that I was a slut for being around so many guys and sleeping in a dorm with them, that I don’t deserve to even be in Korea because I didn’t look the part. It was troubling for me. I was fifteen (15) and didn’t know how to handle it in the beginning so I just cried to be honest. Every night I would cry on Seungcheol Oppa’s shoulders and just constantly ask if I was good enough to be in a group with the boys.”
Interviewer: “I’m sorry you had to go through that at such a young age! I have to say I saw your performances and I can declare with confidence that you can keep up with those boys and dance so well!”
Rosalie: [Blushes] “Oh, thank you. I appreciate that a lot.”
Interview: “Another thing, SEVENTEEN is a very big group do you ever feel overlooked or outnumbered especially being the only female?”
Rosalie: “I do and for a long time it was hard for me to admit because I didn’t want to seem ungrateful for the fact that I even debuted because I know some people who were training for longer than me and never even got chosen to debut:”
Interviewer: “Of course, I can see where you’re coming from.”
Rosalie: “In SEVENTEEN there are a lot of big personalities and we all try to have our own time to shine but yeah it does become difficult. Yes, me being the only female gives me some time to shine but not in the best light most of the time. There will be times I’m overlooked in interviews because all they wanna know is if I’m dating one of the members or if I’m ever going to go solo!”
Rosalie: “It becomes frustrating after so long. There was even a couple instances where fans and even Idol groups that I looked up to assumed I was just a female backup dancer. It became discerning for me and I lost faith in myself and was trying to figure out a way to make it work. I tried to find a way where people knew me for who I was as Rosalie but also how to establish myself as the 14th member and maknae of SEVENTEEN.”
Interviewer: “Did you ever consider leaving SEVENTEEN? With how you’re describing it all it seems like it was very intense for you at such a young age.”
Rosalie: [She sighs deeply] “Wow you are asking those hard hitting questions!”
Interview: “Oh I’m sorry if you don’t feel comfortable answering than you do not have to! We can move on to a different topic.”
Rosalie: “No no! It’s fine I appreciate it, it’s very different from my usual routine questions.”
Rosalie: “Um. . .” [She pauses and chews on her lips] “I have actually thought about leaving the group.”
Interviewer: “Oh really? Can I ask when you thought about it and why?”
Rosalie: “Yeah.” [She smiled] “Sorry I’m going to try not to cry cause this was a really hard point for me when I was thinking about it.”
Interviewer: “Take your time.”
Rosalie: “I was having these thoughts around 2017 and 2018? I’m pretty sure it was around that time. It was when we were getting extremely popular and finally getting recognized. With all the attention on the group meant more attention on the fact that I’m the only girl.”
Rosalie: “At that point I was getting hate comments every single day. On every single social media post I made there was hundreds of comments about how I shouldn’t be in the group and that I should just go back to whatever country I came from because I’m not Korean. Pledis would constantly get letters asking for the removal of me from the group because SEVENTEEN would do a lot better without me. It even got to the point of people were finding my mother’s bakery and were sending letters and reviews on the website about me, and she had to close down for some time.” [She starts to tear up]
Rosalie: “And at that point I knew that these fans didn’t see me for me, they didn’t see the time and effort I put into keeping up the boys and trying to establish myself or at least they did and they just didn’t care. I had spoken to the CEO of Pledis and let him know that I was contemplating on my position in the group. Nobody saw me as Rosalie the Main vocalist of SEVENTEEN, they saw me as a block in the road for what SEVENTEEN could become. It hurt so much.”
Interviewer: [Passes some tissues to Rosalie]
Rosalie: “Thank you.”
Rosalie: “I was ready to go but the boys weren’t ready for it and literally would not let me leave the dorm.”
Interviewer: “Really?” [Makes a surprised face]
Rosalie: “Really!” [She laughs while wiping her tears] “They locked my bags in Mingyu’s room since they knew he’s the one member I couldn’t get around and hid my plane ticket that was going to take me from Seoul, South Korea back to Paris, France. So if it wasn’t for that day I would probably be back in Paris finishing off college.”
Interviewer: “Well I’m sure Carats are glad they held your luggage hostage that day.” [She laughs]
Rosalie: [Nods] “Same”
Interviewer: “You’ve come a long way.”
Rosalie: “Thank you! I feel a lot more comfortable in my position with SEVENTEEN and I’m hoping for more positive memories in the future.”
Interviewer: [Nods]
Interviewer: “I’ve got one last question that is on a lighter note! Who is Rosalie? What do you want people to know when they think of SEVENTEEN’s Rosalie?”
Rosalie: “Wow, I love that question.”
Rosalie: “I want people to think of passion and love when they think of me. I have a lot of passion for what I do and I try to spread love and positivity to wherever I go. I hope to bring more joy to people’s life and to be a comfort to those who need it.”
Interviewer: “I love that! Well thank you again Rosalie for taking the time out of your day to visit us at Vogue and answering the questions we had for you!”
Rosalie: “Of course! I hope to be back for more some day!”

Hi! I was wondering how to incorporate social media into a story without making it feel corny? The book I'm currently writing is set in modern day, with all the main characters being Gen Z, so I want to make it clear that they use social media (esp tiktok and twitter, that sort of thing), but I don't want it to be such a big thing that it takes the readers out of the story. How would I go about that?
Incorporating Social Media into a Story
The problem with incorporating specific social media into your story is it immediately dates your story. Imagine if you were reading a book today and the characters were talking about seeing posts on MySpace or watching videos on Vine. Unless the story is meant to be rooted in that 2013-2015 time period for whatever reason, you might inadvertently pull the reader out of the story with such a specific and irrelevant timestamp.
That said, you may want to consider going with less specific verbiage. "I saw her post online..." "He messaged me last night..." "I saw their engagement photo in my feed..." "They shared the video last night and it had hundreds of likes in just a few hours."
If you want to be specific, you can be specific. But, in either case, you can work the usage in by thinking about what's normal for your characters and what's relevant to the story. For example, if you need your character to find out their significant other is hiding something from them, you could have one of their friends mention seeing some clue on social media. For example, "Why was Jack in the city last night? I saw his post/saw his TikTok, but I thought you said he was working until midnight?" Or, something like, "Sorry... I was up late watching cat videos online/on TikTok..."
For text-based social media and things like e-mail and text messages, you can also go the epistolary route, where you actually format the text to look like the thing. But in that case you would need to avoid using actual brand names/logos, etc., most likely.
Happy writing!

Hey, just ran across one of your posts. At the beginning I was startled. Couldn't understand how a transandrophobic post got on my Tumblr. Then I looked in to more of your posts, and the description of your blog.
I wanted to make sure I understand your blog. You find transandrophobic posts, and post images of them? I assume so others don't need to interact with them?
These are genuine questions. Thanks!
More or less.
Specifically, it's to archive all kinds of bigotry from the original incarnation of what was known as the "Baeddel Crew", or just simply the "baeddels". This blog is primarily for people who just weren't around when the Baeddel Crew was still active, and thus were unaware of just how awful their ideology was.
Basically, the Baeddel Crew were a group of radical feminist trans women formed in late 2013. They took all trappings of TERF ideology (all men are rapists, trans women are just men pretending to be women so they can assault cis women, etc.) and flipped it to be about trans people instead (eg: all trans men are rapists, afab non-binary people are just trans men pretending to be trans women to assault trans women, etc.). The group fractured in 2015 after who was essentially their leader raped her girlfriend.
In 2021 there was a baeddel resurgence. A new extraneous group of radical feminist poisoned trans women were taking on "baeddel" URLs, venerating the original Baeddel Crew, and posting radscummy takes. Of course, people talked about this and talked about how horrible the original crop of baeddels were.
One of the people talking about this was [redacted]. Someone had sent him an anon ask complaining how everyone always ignore the harm the baeddels did to non-binary people. [redacted] asked for anon to clarify, but anon never did, so I took it upon myself to answer his question. I started to draft an ask detailing how the baeddels treated non-binary people, and while doing so I searched old baeddel blogs to corroborate my memories, and also to grab screenshots in case he asked for some. [redacted] never did ask for them, but I didn't just want to delete all the screenshots I took, so I created this blog to post them to. Things just kind of exploded from there.

It takes a village... - Buddy Daddies - Episode 5 - Cultural Elements
There is the famous saying “It takes a village to raise a child.” And I think that was a key focus of this episode, and one of the lessons that Kazuki and Rei had to learn. There are three social and cultural aspects of Japan that I want to look at in regards to this episode:
1. Flus at School
2. Babysitting in Japan
3. Work-Life Balance
They all connect to each other in some way.
1. Flus at School
Tumblr media
Likely when everyone saw the notice that Kazuki and Rei got about the daycare being temporarily closed due to a virus, the initial thought was Covid. And it was likely meant to be a nod to that. But, even before Covid, the flu (influenza) has always been taken very seriously in Japan and at Japanese schools.
In Japan, I worked at elementary and junior high schools, so a bit of a different setting from the daycare (my daycare experience with Japanese kids was back in the States at a juku and learning center). But, I doubt there is too much difference. Basically, once we entered flu season, parts of the whiteboards up in the Staff Room would be dedicated to keeping track of which students had the flu and how many students had it per class. Once it reached a certain amount, everyone in that class (whether they were sick or not) would not be allowed to come to school for a number of days.
Tumblr media
(From a study that will be linked to below, and which was published online in 2015).
In the above excerpt I included, it talks about the effective measure of school closure to prevent pandemic influenza (specifically talking about the one in 2009). When I worked in Japan (2013 - 2019) as an ALT, I never experienced a full school closure because of the flu, but I knew of other ALT who had.
2. Babysitting in Japan
Tumblr media
In this episode we have Kazuki telling Kyutaro, “Lately, we’ve been taking on some babysitting jobs...”
Kazuki really didn’t have a plethora of options to choose from here to make any sort of plausible excuse. This likely was the best thing he could say and pick, but it also isn’t that surprising that Kyutaro didn’t buy it for a second. Not only because male babysitters are rarer in general, but also because babysitting still isn’t a normal thing in Japanese culture. From a 2014 SavvyTokyo article entitled: Babysitting Services in Japan, there is this excerpt:
However, hiring a babysitter in Japan remains a privilege reserved for high-income earners, and is nowhere near as popular as it is in Western countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, some families are forced to use babysitters due to a shortage of after-school nurseries. Some believe that a babysitter could help inject a dose of fresh air into a typical Japanese home, which can sometimes be known for its seclusion. This is particularly true today, in an ever-increasing international environment, where English education is at the forefront of most Japanese parents’ minds.
This lines up with my experiences with being a Weekend Camp Counselor for about 3 or so years when I lived close to the Tokyo area of Japan (from 2016 - 2019). My job was to play American summer camp style games and activities (Duck, Duck, Goose, Red Light, Green Light, Thunderdome, Tooty Ta Song, etc.) with native Japanese children at parks (like Yoyogi Park or Toyosu Park). The goal was to have the children get a full English immersion experience, while enjoying physical activities outdoors. But, like my boss told me, our service was also meant to allow the parents to have some free time in the day, since babysitting isn’t a big thing.
In American media, seeing a (usually) teen girl babysitting a neighbors kid is incredibly common. In Japan, there is still an expectation that the parents (mostly the mother) should be caring for their child or children, but that is getting harder and harder with the need for both parents to work, in order to get by (due to the state of inflation Japan has been in for years). One Japan Times contributor, Yuko Tamura, wrote about their experience with hiring a babysitter in a blog post entitled: Hiring a Babysitter for the First Time in Japan Taught Me a Lot.
In this article she talked about the social and cultural aspects. First she notes, “Without grandparents in my neighborhood, I had almost no one to ask for help except my husband.” No mentions are made of siblings, cousins, aunts, or friends. In America, it wouldn’t be that uncommon to hear of any of the above (as well as, of course, grandparents) to do a little temporary babysitting for family or friends. But in Japan this just isn’t common, smaller family sizes are also likely a reason for this as well.
She also mentions lack of communication among neighbors, something that is definitely common, especially in cities in Japan, and “ I have been a highly private person; I suspect the majority of Japanese people are the same. Welcoming strangers at home could be a severe headache for people like me because it just doesn’t feel right.”
Houses in Japan are seen as very private places. Having big get togethers or parties at someone’s house in Japan is really uncommon (I have been to one or two, but it’s still not the norm). Going elsewhere to meet up, like at a karaoke place or café is far more common. So the idea of a babysitter goes against that idea, as well as the societal expectation of the mother being in caretaker mode 24/7, so it has made it harder for babysitting to become common place in Japan.
That being said, the internet, the pandemic, the economy, women working more, and many other things are starting to shake things up a bit more in Japan. I also suggest that you give the blog post a full read (I’ll link to it below, along with every site and article I reference here), since it also touches on another concept a bit: Work-Life Balance, my last discussion point.
3. Work-Life Balance
Tumblr media
I won’t say too much about this, since I think the concept of Work-Life Balance is a fairly universal one and one that people are always trying to struggle with. It may be better and easier to navigate in some countries, and harder and more difficult to navigate in others.
For Japan, it is harder, but there has been more of a push for more life and less work focus in recent years, and the pandemic has caused work-from-home, remote work, and so forth to become a bit more common in Japan. It’s still not as prevalent of a shift in work culture like we’ve been seeing happen elsewhere, but it is a start! I’ll add an article or two in the comments about this topic, just in case anyone wants to read up on it.
In this episode, we see Kazuki and Rei struggling with Work-Life Balance in a way neither has likely ever experienced before, since adding a child into the mix really does make for a very different beast. What I really like that we saw in this episode was showing Kyutaro telling Kazuki and Rei that he would look after Miri:
Tumblr media
It’s unconventional, as noted above, but it is a good message to tell. And one that should be told more in anime and Japanese media. A sense of community is important, especially when raising a child, since as the saying goes, “It takes a village.”

18
18 is the only song Ed Sheeran wrote specifically for One Direction, and only one he wrote from their perspective. To me, it refers to I Wish You Would which Taylor wrote about Harry while on the Red Tour with Ed. Like Tenerife Sea, I think it is about Taylor from Harry's perspective. The Spotify vertical video focuses on Harry and Zayn who primarily sing it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To Smallzy in September, 2014 Ed said, both that his songs are generally about a specific person and he also talked about writing 18 for One Direction:
"I wasn't gonna do it again because there was lots of ..ah.. basically, my record label got very annoyed that my first #1 was a song that I gave to someone else, and they were kind of like "don't do it. I did Britain's got Talent and basically Simon Cowell invited me up to eat and talk. And he mentioned it and in my head I was like 'I just just want to focus on my stuff' and the next day I was in Copenhagen and I got an idea and I kind of went into the shower room that's big and reverbartive and I wrote it thought that sounds like something for them. It's not something I would use for myself. It was written specifically for them and it's cool" Smallzy asks about Taylor he if he had helped with 1989, Ed "that's all her, all throughout of her doing it I heard little bits of it all throughout. Everything she does is a certain quality, it is going to satisfy any fan of hers."
Simon Cowell tells a similar story. Taylor also told Ryan Seacrest and others she played 1989 to Ed while on the Red Tour together.
The '...ah...' it is interesting, because although Ed and Harry stayed close, Ed did not write a song for Midnight Memories. There is a rumour this is about Don't. Ed did write Tenerife Sea, another song from Harry's perspective about Taylor in 2013 - that's on Ed's Multiply. This helps determine which Britain's got talent appearance he was referring to.
Timeline
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ed was on Britain's Got Talent twice, both were live shows, which narrows down when this song was written to 2 days, the day after:
8 June, 2013, Ed and Taylor performed Everything Has Changed together, or
27 May, 2014, Ed performed Sing.
Either is possible, but I am inclined to focus on 2014, because it's on Four and Ed did not write for Midnight Memories, which June would have made. In May 2014:
24 May 2014 Ed and One Direction both performed on the main stage of the Radio 1 Big Weekend in Glasgow. Harry and Taylor were seemingly back together. 2 squad members, Lorde and Lily Allen, also played. Taylor was in New York that morning then disappeared for 6 days, Harry off 3 of those.
25 & 26 May 2014 - ED & Taylor MIA, 1D have a few days off, Harry is seen in London playing a celebrity football game.
27 May 2014 - Ed performs on Britain's Got Talent in London, Taylor and Harry MIA.
28 May 2014 - Ed said he wrote the song in Copenhagen the next day, he wasn't seen. 1D UK show, Taylor still MIA.
5 June 2014 - Ed seen in London, Simon Cowell said he gave him the song a week after Britain's Got Talent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Live Performances
Ed has never performed 18, he has performed other songs he gave to other artists, it may be that it was never written for him or it could be that others charted higher. One Direction added 18 to the OTRA setlist with No Control on 13 June 2015, replacing One Thing. It hasn't been on any solo 1D concert setlists. (It's at 33 mins here)
youtube
Since we were 16 honey
Harry once said “I have love you since we were 16 honey” after the chorus. Nothing that the song was only performed June - December 2015 I think Harry is taking the piss of Louis and Larries. 1D met industry people in LA before he turned 17 and Taylor was in town there, and there were times in late 2015 Harry and Taylor were maybe in contact, but I do not think this was serious.
Lyrics
I got a heart, and I got a soul Believe me, I will use them both We made a start Be it a false one, I know Baby, I don't want to feel alone
The opening verse is about a relationship that ended (false start) and not wanting to feel alone. To me, this is referring to the events of 2012/2013 and that relationship ending, Ed, being good friends with Harry while on tour with Taylor, hearing 1989 as it was written would have been keenly aware. He wrote Tenerife Sea in that time.
This verse, like the song to me sounds like it is written for Harry's voice. The verse is describing someone close to the narrator that ended. Later, in Olivia Harry sings of being alone "When you go and I'm alone"
So kiss me where I lay down My hands pressed to your cheeks A long way from the playground
The end of this verse 'long way from the playground' tells us this is a love that started when they were young. Taylor uses school and childhood as a metaphor for One Direction and this young love, including in the MV for EHC which Ed co-wrote, and Suburban Legends.
I have loved you since we were 18 Long before we both thought the same thing To be loved and to be in love All I can do is say that these arms Are made for holding you, oh-oh I wanna love like you made me feel When we were 18
The 1D boys all dated people different ages to them, however Harry and Taylor started officially dating when Harry was 18. I think Ed's simplified this to 'we were 18'.
"Long before we both thought the same thing", to me, is referring to I wish you would and the way Taylor described it. IWYW was written 27 May 2013 while on the US Red Tour with Ed who was likely to have heard it then.
The end of the Chorus is telling us this is a relationship that had come back, much like Taylor had written Style a few months earlier.
We took a chance God knows we tried Yet all along, I knew we'd be fine So pour me a drink, oh love And let's split the night wide open And we'll see everything we can Living love in slow motion, motion, motion
This verse is so much like Harry and Taylors later work which makes me think it must be a referring to a conversation or pattern:
Drinking
Delicate: But you can make me a drink
Satellite: We share the last line / Then we drink the wall / 'Til we wanna talk
Fine Line: We'll get the drinks in and I'll get to thinking of her
Time and slow motion
Olivia: And time is irrelevant when I've not been seeing you
Gold Rush: I don’t like slow motion, double vision in rose blush
Midnight Rain: My boy was a montage, a slow motion love potion
“Slut!”: Half asleep, taking your time in the tangerine neon light
So kiss me where I lay down My hands pressed to your cheeks A long way from the playground
Harry's unreleased Lay down also has arms around his muse, without knowing a clear era for Lay Down the inspiration could go either way with those. "Lay down with me (I put my arms around ya)" I am inclined to think Harry referenced Ed.

Hi there I would like to say I’m interested in the deadpool homophobia rant
hi there! many thanks to you
so the "deadpool homophobia rant" is... a little complicated. I'll try to keep it short because God knows I talk about Wade too much as it is on this hellsite. the point, before we go into literally any detail, is that the writing surrounding deadpool's sexuality is deeply problematic, both in its representation and its consequences in-narrative to him as a person, but I'll try to just focus on the facts.
we all know that deadpool is omni/pan, right? wrong. well, not wrong. just not... quite as solidly canon as we'd like. this is the only reference the actual word gets in canon:
Tumblr media
this is from the posehn & duggan 2012 run (my beloved), although don't ask me to hunt down the specific issue, please, that sounds like a nightmare. suffice it to say that it's from the letter section at the end of one of the issues and that it's the only time I can find the actual word referenced anywhere with regards to our boy. you may remember that it was confirmed at some point - yeah, in a since deleted tweet. despite being attracted to anything from aliens to death herself, wade is not allowed to go past plausible deniability when it comes to heterosexuality.
that doesn't mean that wade doesn't express attraction to men, because he does, and often.
Tumblr media
(from deadpool team up #887)
Tumblr media
(from an early issue of spider-man/deadpool. 2, I think. maybe 3)
Tumblr media
(from the daniel way 2008 run, again, don't make me dig up an issue please, but it's the one where he teams up with spider-man to defeat hit-monkey)
(there's also a few panels floating around online where he expresses attraction to cable but I don't have those saved on my laptop. I remember seeing one where wade fantasizes about rubbing sun screen on cable's back? but again, do not have those saved.)
anyway, the point is, wade absolutely gets to express attraction to men, and constantly. but only at his own expense. only when the joke will land. only when he gets to immediately say "no homo". only because he's already quirky and weird and insane, so of course he's also attracted to men, he's not all there, after all.
I'll try not to let this cross over to a connected but wholly separate rant about the ableism in his writing, but it's all connected, at the end of the day.
and it would be one thing if deadpool wasn't a relationship guy. but, although he's absolutely terrible at it, deadpool makes stab after stab at monogamy - always with women. he's a sleezeball, really. constantly asking women out, super and non-super, whether they're in any way interested or not. posehn & duggan pull back from this a little, and instead have him get married to shiklah, in a special issue dedicated to "every time deadpool has gotten married" (or at least thought he did). they got a bunch of previous deadpool writers and artists to contribue to the issue. somehow every single marriage was to a woman, even if she was literally an alien. bc deadpool's attraction to a woman is a tragedy, but at least it's a story; wade's attraction to a man is a joke. his one "relationship" with a man is with madcap, who abuses him from inside his head. they call it "falling in love":
Tumblr media
(from deadpool annual #1, from uh... 2013? 2014?)
... but madcap's nothing but horrifically abusive towards wade when they're "together" (as in fused together with madcap playing the role of "white box") and the first arc in the 2015 duggan run is madcap deliberately fucking up deadpool's life because he won't take him back. not exactly a positive canon relationship. shiklah treats wade better.
deadpool also likes to dress in a typical feminine or gay coded fashion, and it's constantly questioned or made fun of by the people around him:
Tumblr media
(from the deadpool musical issue)
Tumblr media
(I actually had to google this one, I don't know where it's from for sure but it's pre-2012 (cause... boxes) and I'm pretty sure it's from cable & deadpool. no idea beyond that what issue or anything)
we see a constant, then, of deadpool expressing attraction to men and his gnc presentation, and yet the narrative never respects him for it. it plays it for laughs, plays the plausible deniability card, and despite wade himself seemingly being comfortable with his sexuality it is never presented as a good thing or even a neutral thing. deadpool's sexuality shines through despite what seems to be the writers actively fighting against it. and it doesn't have to be this way. nobody made them write him as pan in the first place, although, yes, I'd be sad if he wasn't, and more importantly, nobody made anyone write his pansexuality like this. it's in the movies too, to a lesser extent. it's frustrating and exhausting and it's deeply homophobic.
I love wade. he deserves better.

Hi Stuck! Other than Lauren doing a 180 on "I was queer she was not" to "I was the only queer person as far as I know" (aka I don't really know I could be wrong), this podcast reminded me of the Becky G podcast in the funniest ways.
She once again said she and Lucy had a physical relationship when she was 15, which started after she kissed Lucy halloween 2011, and then went on to say they were hooking up for 2 years on the down low. At THAT point I had to laugh because Lucy moved away literally 4 months later to Puerto Rico and was completely out her life from post-X-factor to mid 2015 so how she hooked up with someone until at least late 2013 when that person was out of her life for almost a year at that point in another country is beyond me. Cue to Lauren also saying Lucy didn't talk to her after their "2 year hooking up" period for 2 years not making sense since the gap of them drifting apart to reconnecting was 3 years. Also cue to Lauren saying they dated for 2 years even though they dated from May/June 2015 to January 2017 (maybe she can have some leeway there for wanting to round off the last few months to the nearest year).
It reminded me a lot of fa-by's Laucy post years ago and how many inconsistencies there always seems to be with trying to get the story straight (or gay and without Camila in the picture). I do actually think Lucy was Lauren's first girl experiment in some way, but the more Lauren tries to emphasis some sort of long-lasting intimate/physical relationship with Lucy (dating or otherwise), the more she moves away from logical and chronological sense.
Whatever script, or wattpad storyline Camila is able to write for her with her recently clipped nails, she uses next time just shouldn't include any dates or specifics because these inconsistencies are hilarious.
Indeed

Hello 🌻
hope you are having fun during your holiday :)
So... I noticed in your bio you describe yourself as a film snob, and I was curious if you could put together a list of films you believe everyone should watch. It doesn't matter whether they're niche films or d'essai or blockbuster, I used to adore going to cine-forums and watch every kind of genre, they always leave you something to bring home
Thank you! <3
(Sorry for the ramble, but I'm stuck in bed for the next couple of weeks with way too much free time, and I figured I might as well put it to good use! xD )
Ohhh my god, Ari, you have no idea just how badly I wanna hug you right now. Films and filmmaking are one of my special interests and I could literally talk your ear off about the industry!
Please keep in mind that these are just my personal picks/opinions, and I am almost certainly forgetting a few because I'm doing this off of memory. I'm also not including any films that I haven't seen yet (there are a few classics that I embarrassingly just somehow never got around to seeing that are currently in my watchlist) so if you notice any strange omissions that's why. Please keep in mind that I tend to prefer dark, pessimistic films, so this list is going to reflect that.
If you'd like specific recommendations, wish for me elaborate anymore on any of these films, or want a part 2 to this, please let me know!
Also, I recently got a Letterboxd account back in December, so if you want to see what I've been watching recently, give me a follow over there!

Lemme start by saying, I don’t know if someone has said this before. Or if it’s been confirmed by the author/creator of Assassination Classroom (I would love to be informed if it was, though. I need AC content). It’s just something I noticed and thought was cool, so I decided to share:
Korosensei’s tie has a crescent moon design. To be more specific, a waxing crescent moon design.
It’s interesting because the academic year of the Assassination Classroom is widely speculated to be 2014-2015. Since Aguri and Korosensei met a year before, it’s reasonable to say that they met on March 13, 2013.
The moon phase on March 13, 2013 was a waxing crescent moon.
Aguri gifted Korosensei a necktie with a waxing crescent moon embroidered into it on the anniversary of their meeting. She put so much thought into that gift, to the point of incorporating the moon phase from the day they met. And I think that’s beautiful.
I have sad feels now.
Thoughts?
It's a neat idea! The manga was first serialised in Jump July 2012 though, so the speculation is probably a bit off. To me, it's most likely the series is set relatively contemporaneously. So you can take the original moon explosion as 2012 or 2013. There's one very specific part of the manga that does help date it, though.
Prewarning, this turned into niche ramblings.
Tumblr media
I do not currently have access to the Japanese version of this scene, but I disagree with the fan translation here. At their own admission, they interpreted him to be talking about a specific earthquake, where in reality he just says "the earthquake". I also went and checked this with the anime, and he does not give a specific event.
I mean, the Great Kanto Earthquake happened in 1923, which would make Karma some kind of time traveller if this was true. As someone who used to live in the same rough area Kunugigaoka is set, I promise you there are a lot of earthquakes. To the point you get used to them. Most certainly wouldn't be a 'state of emergency'. No. If you're saying The Earthquake, the most likely option is the 2011 Tohoku earthquake/tsunami, still by far Japan's most devastating natural disaster in recent times. Sort of like how we might say "the pandemic" and it's pretty obvious what we mean by it.
Two problems with this, though. One is that Karma in this panel looks relatively younger. The youngest Karma could realistically have been for this timescale is 12. We literally see him drawn at that age, and his appearance doesn't differ much in those panels (civil war) - though this could be put down to being before that specific arc. Second issue: the epicentre of the earthquake was quite far north of where Kunugigaoka is set, and Karma would have still been in junior high at this point. And we do see him physically observing... some kind of disaster relief. Considering the lack of destruction (and the fact that the earthquake destroyed a nuclear reactor and caused a massive exclusion zone in the general area), perhaps Karma is somewhere in Tokyo here observing the support measures.
The Japanese government were also specifically criticised for their response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster. It's too complicated to really go into here, but in a nutshell there were some Bad and Illogical Decisions (in Livi's opinion) taken. One highlight being very arbitrary choices on what houses were part of the exclusion zone, but I digress. Point is, this seems like what Karma's referring to by "the politicians were useless".
So anyway, my bet is that Aguri and Koro met in 2012, and the moon went bye bye in March 2013. I'm not going to check myself, but I'll believe you about the moon phase. I'll be honest, I doubt this is intentional, but it's a neat coincidence at least!

ryan ross iceberg tier 3
tier 1, tier 2, tier 4, tier 5, tier 6, tier 7, tier 8
into the waters:
cricket and clover:
also known as the cabin album, this is the scrapped album that panic! wrote in 2007 when they locked themselves in a cabin in nevada (hence the nickname). according to a tweet from jon, 14 songs were written for the album, only 3 of which ever saw the light of day [i]. however, this tweet seems to have been deleted.
one song was folkin’ around, which of course made it onto pretty. odd.
another was nearly witches, which made it on vices & virtues, but the demo version is very different from the official version. you can listen to the demo here [ii].
the last song that we know of from this album is it’s true love. this song was performed once in 2007 at summerfest; unfortunately, the quality isn’t the best [iii]. however, this song still gives good insight into what the album would’ve sounded like, which is very different from fever but similar to pretty odd (although sources state the album still sounded very different from both previous and future works) [iv].
the album was intended to be a concept album, with each song leading into the next story wise. it would tell a love story between two people named cricket and clover [iv].
in 2018, jon also tweeted that he found some cricket and clover demos at his dad’s house, but it seems he does not have the authority to release them [iv]. genius also released a number of song titles, but jon also said that those names were not accurate [i].
Tumblr media
we also have this image of ryan’s handwritten lyrics for songs unreleased from the album.
Tumblr media
besides these small snippets of information, it’s safe to assume this album will remain lost to time forever, unless someone gives jon the permission to leak the demos (please).
i’m afraid that i:
on the 2006 summer tour, and specifically on live in denver, panic! covered karma police by radiohead. this entry refers to a part of that song in which ryan sings the line “i’m afraid that i.” ryan fans became obsessed with this clip and it’s taken on a life of its own.
youtube
you smell like a slut:
this also references a clip from the live in denver dvd. rather than explaining it, i’ll just let the video explain itself.
youtube
the moat:
in 2010, ryan tweeted at one of his friends that he could “float in [ryan’s] moat until he gets settled,” implying that ryan has a moat around his house [v].
i also found this panic! confession, but i’m not sure of the legitimacy of the claim nor of the house in the photo actually being the home ryan lived in (i hope it wasn’t) [vi].
eta: i think that actually is his house because in a podcast, he talks about how people have shown up to his house and made him scared to even open the door for the mailman :( with that being said, i removed the original image because i don't feel comfortable having a pic of his house in this (idk if he still lives there, but regardless). it is still in the source i linked if you're really curious, but it should go without saying that no one should show up to his house.
it’s the end of the electric guitar era:
this is a clip from the documentary, the calendar business, in which ryan says he was so frustrated with one of his guitars. so, he said “it’s the end of the electric guitar era” and burned it.
youtube
i’ll also link the full documentary here because it’s an interesting watch itself! [vii]
coachella:
for a few years, ryan went to coachella. i know he was definitely at 2015 and 2016, but also maybe 2011 and 2013 [viii].
he was also pictured with cristofer drew at one of them (nevershoutnever) which doesn’t mean anything significant; it’s just an interesting tidbit to me because nsn started my emo phase lmao
Tumblr media
gabe saporta:
my king.
gabe saporta, formerly of midtown and cobra starship (both incredible bands that you should check out), was an absolute icon of fueled by ramen bandom. in the presplit days, he and ryan were buddies, as were most bands on that label, but after the divorce ryan got to keep gabe. they used to frequently post on instagram hanging out. we don’t really see them together much these days, but to be fair, ryan disappeared from the internet and gabe is the father of two kids. so i’m sure they’re still friends offline!
there is also this absolutely iconic friends or enemies interview that gabe did with ryan that everyone should watch here [ix] (also guy ripley saying “delicious” in the background at the end means everything to me).
vicky t:
victoria asher, professionally known as vicky t, is another former member of cobra starship. she and ryan did hang out in the presplit days of course, but also some in the post split days. it seems she remained friends with all of panic! though.
however, vicky is extremely problematic and transphobic, which is detailed more here [x]. she also works with britney spears these days, and from what i can tell, britney’s fans do not have good things to say about vicky. but this is really not the place to dive into that.
keltie and jac podcast and books:
so kitty from glee and two of ryan ross’ exes start a podcast…
seriously though, keltie knight, jac vanek, and becca tobin run a podcast called lady gang, and ketlie and jac have discussed ryan on it before. in this interview from 2017, they say that they met because of a mutual ex, saying, “he was kind of known for a minute” and, “we don’t speak the name; it’s like voldemort.” [xi]. they also say they’re not sure if he’s still alive, and well…valid. in a tumblr post from 2018, an anon states that keltie talked about selling ryan’s clothes in an episode and that she and jac were saying mean things about him [xii]. also, in this podcast episode from last year, jac and keltie talk about ryan from about 05:25 to 08:10; they wonder if he has a girlfriend and what he is up to now, and keltie talks about how she regrets being messy in the relationship and writing her book, and how she tried to contact him when hobo died [xiii].
i’ve already talked about it some before, but in 2010, keltie released a book called “rockettes, rockstars, and rockbottom.” this book has an entire section dedicated to her relationship with ryan called “the dreamer” – the dreamer being the alias she uses to refer to him throughout. when describing the beginning of their relationship, she talks about how young he was very often, saying he was still a child and that he had a hard time passing for even 14, amongst other examples. as i said in tier 2, the age gap in their relationship was important because of the power dynamics, as evidenced in the book. from what i gather from the book, their relationship was messy, codependent, and, for lack of a better word, toxic. keltie is allowed to talk about her life, but it doesn’t sit right with me that she went into intimate detail about their relationship when ryan is such a private person. ryan was definitely not innocent in this relationship either, though; they both had their issues that they needed to work out on their own rather than keltie trying to fix ryan or him wanting her to. luckily, as i said before, keltie does regret writing the book at least.
if for some reason you’re interested in reading her book, you can find it for free here [xiv]. you just need to make an internet archive account and check it out hourly.
(also a side note that i did in fact listen to lady gang and read keltie’s book for this entry, so please at least give me kudos for that if nothing else)
5th member of 1d:
on march 25, 2015, zayn malik left one direction, and so naturally, people wanted to fuck with their fans. someone edited the official 1d wikipedia page and added ryan under their list of current members. 1d fans on twitter subsequently had meltdowns, exclaiming “WHO IS RYAN ROSS” (i mean c’mon they were in an emotional, vulnerable state). ryan ended up changing his twitter bio to say, “NOT in 1D” and made a tweet about it [xv].
Tumblr media
scholarship:
when panic! was first getting its start, ryan received a full scholarship from the university of nevada las vegas for writing. however, he dropped out after one semester to focus on the band, which his dad did not approve of.
he talks about it in live in denver from 58:45 until 59:18 [xvi].
the boy who blocked his own shot:
this is song by brand new off their 2003 album deja entendu (fuck jesse lacey). it’s on this iceberg because ryan loved this song and posted about it on his lj a lot, along with the rest of the album. i know he specifically quoted another song, okay i believe you but my tommy gun don’t, as well.
when ryan was a teenager, this was his email. in fact, it is the email he used to communicate with pete wentz. pete talked about it in this interview with mark hoppus, starting at 02:00 [xvii].
moulin rouge:
this is a movie musical released in 2001 that ryan was obsessed with and one of his favorite movies. i don’t really have any other source for this than trust me bro, but i promise it’s true.
original singer for panic!:
when panic! first started, and even when brendon initially joined the band, ryan was the singer. however, they heard brendon singing back up during brand practice one day and asked him to be the singer rather than the guitarist.
ryan and brendon talk about it some in live in denver from 38:46 to 41:23 [xviii]. specifically my favorite quote from this is, “it felt right to have confident sounding lyrics behind a confident voice.”
(also i’m trying to be objective throughout this but let me just say this for context and transparency: i hate brendon urie LMAO)
guitarist ryan ross declined to be interviewed:
in 2015, billboard published this article for the 10 year anniversary of a fever you can’t sweat out [xix]. they reached out to multiple people to interview for the article, including brendon, jon, pete wentz, producer matt squire, manager scott magelberg, and bob mclynn. underneath this, it says spencer and brent could not be reached. it also says, “guitarist ryan ross declined to be interviewed.” people just thought it was funny because he would decline. he is living the hermit life for real.
so that’s all for tier 3. next we move onto a deeper layer, when i really feel like we get into some stuff the average fan wouldn’t know, which i am excited to delve into. gonna be honest though, it’s gonna be a long one.

My peak was definitely about 10 years ago😂🤷🏻‍♀️
Also, to further commemorate this anniversary, I wanted to share some additional thoughts.
I am not good at social media, I just lack the skills and conscious determination of content creators, I mostly post randomly and I put little to no effort into growing my follower base. I've never really tried to become "famous" here (ngl, when I was younger I envied the popular blogs a little), but generally speaking, I just really like to draw and I want to share it with people, maybe getting to know some new people, making new friends even. For me, Tumblr's main purpose is being a platform for fandom interactions. I love how Tumblr operates with a different logic than other social media sites, how you have actual control over your own experience as it is not run by algorithms.
That's why it makes me a little sad how "Tumblr Etiquette" is not respected nowdays. I've been here for 12 years, and I am very extroverted, I have no problem with new people using this website, really, the more the merrier. As I said above, I don't really care about notes and follower counts, and I am not easily discouraged by having only a few notes on the stuff that I post. If I would be, then I will definitely put more effort into what I draw and create only what received more notes. (E.g. the Lily red carpet look pic has 14 notes as of today, while the domestic wolfstar pic is over 300, yet I am sure that I will not exclusively draw wolfstar from now on.)
Case in point, what I wanted to actually talk about is the poor reblog-like ratio. It makes me sad because I desperately crave the interaction and a like goes completely unseen here. (I know that you can make your likes visible, but most people, me included, check their dashboards only, and will check likes of certain people only if they are specifically looking for something.) My main driver is not the exposure or recognition or whatever in itself I get on my drawings (it is certainly a nice bonus tho). I want to interact with people, and I can only do that if the stuff I post is seen by them, aka reblogged. On my main blog I almost only post my artwork (I've reblogged 158 posts only in the past 12 years), but I have a sideblog especially for reblogging purposes (which comes with the nice bonus of making my "likes" searchable, because the tagging system is truly a wonder).
Let me further explain what I mean by presenting the reblog-like ratio of 3 of my latest most popular posts:

Reblogs > Likes! Please! I want interactions! Share your thoughts! That's what this site is for!
