Yes, Penguindrum's first 2 OPs included. uu' (linkle) Though I guess actual single song(s) I listened to was actually a pretty good mashup of "The Proof of Our Existence" with some of Undertale's songs? (linkle) And as of recent, Pinocchio-P's song "Isn't It A?" and a Rhythm Heaven vid on it! Not sure if you're into Vocaloid, but you should give him a listen, he makes some pretty good songs with meanings that kinda remind me of both Ikuhara and a bit of Shigesato Itoi! Currently reading: Ah... mostly some of HCs of some fav characters (mostly a giant softie demon biker from Digimon) from a variety of stuff I like? And other people's interpretations of Penguindrum+etc. Also, here's this small, yet hella heartrending & heartwarming analysis of RE:cycle's ending that got me like... I've been mostly online.

Currently watching: Mostly a let's play channel that I follow on YT for some background noise (SGB, Super Gaming Brothers) while I'm either playing Switch (DB Xenoverse 2), Citra 3DS (Persona Q2), or PCSX2 PS2 (Resident Evil Outbreak, online on that game is actually pretty fun!) any last series or movies I've seen, well... I seriously need to get back to first-time watching Digimon Tamers both sub and dub, did the first 2 seasons dub cause was kinda lazy, but I'll eventually watch them sub! Besides Digimon, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and also rewatched Devilman Crybaby last month, still never forgetting the heartache I felt on the 2nd to last episode all the way back in 2018... ok as for movies? Puss in Boots The Last Wish and The Super Mario Movie on Netflix (the former is a fantastic movie, and the latter is pretty good junk food to watch) Currently obsessed with: In case you couldn't tell by my icon... Digimon, I honestly should've gotten into this a whole lot sooner... because I honestly a bit bitter with the Pokemon franchise as of late, but... both franchises deserve better and respect from their former owners. Impmon/Beelzemon remind me so much of an Kunihiko Ikuhara character, that he's in desperate need of plenty of love+hugs and therapy... ╯︿╰ (but besides that, I have a whole lot of things I love but we'd be here forever so... thanks for including me! ^^') Tagging... um... Adventure:

- Patamon's/angelmon's sacrifice is rll. the first taste of how wild digimon is and prolly why I got so obsessed with digimon as a kid... it's just such a cool moment that it rewrired my little kiddie brain

- Gatomon meets with the kids for the first time. after u get more familiar with how digivolution works and bigger equals stronger in ur mind, seeing gatomon solo all the kid's digimons is. sooo cool. u rll don't expect gatomon to be in adult level (that also made gatomon my fav as a kid :3)

- The moment where wormmon dies and Ken realizes what's he's done to digimon it's just. so good... it scared me a lot as a kid but I still watched it so many times. the contrast of Ken receiving the crest of kindness too, along with a partner digimon dying like patamon did to save their kid.... expldoes

- when Ken and wormmon reunite again.... I cried sm at that part as a kid

Tamers: (get ready itis my fav season I may aswell put every single moment of the show here dkndkd)

- Takato and Guilmon meet. the first point tamers wants to show u is that. digimons aren't entirely friendly, they are like animals and especially guilmon who was just created doesn't get what's happening around him. THE PUREE horror Takato feels when Guilmon kills the rats is so awesome also, especially when he was so happy to see Guilmon seconds ago

- Takato finds Guilmon after he scapes for the first time. Takato crying his eyes out after Terriermon tells him his not fit for the tamer title... and him hugging Guilmon. it's too much it makes me explode

- the little moment Impmon and Renamon have at the billboard thing... they are so funny

- Suzie and Antylamon meet. just look atthe episode is there anything else to say. they are so cute

- THANK U GOD !!! ^_^

- WHEN RENAMON CONFIRMS ALL DIGIMONS ARE AGENDER !!!!! WOOOOO (and then Rika's mom is shitty as usual but we don't talk abt that. but I want Rika's mom dead that's all I'm saying)

Ghost game:

- Hiro's and Gammamon's meeting. I'm not a super fan of ghost game but this episode definitely convinced me to keep watching. Hiro's dad telling him that gammamon is now his little brother isso <3

- gulusgammamon's first appearance (kinda). he murdered a digimon isn't that the coolest thing ever. BUT aside from that the whole episode is just a FUCKING. ride man... from Bokomon's death to the fucking.... digivolution of gammamon. the way u can tell something is wrong when everything pauses for a second. IT'S SO GOOODDD

I think the build up to that episode could have been done better, but what we got is still pretty good tbh. I rewatched that episode like 10 times and was obsessed with gulus for such a long time man

Favorite Over-all Character? Koichi Kimura!

Favorite Googlehead? Tagiru! I just like his spirit. I also really like Mikey, and how well they play his flaws, because Mikey’s a really genuinely good guy and great leader in ways that Tai and others aren’t, but it’s also Mikey’s flaw because he tries so hard to be good and to give to others that it’s shown to physically and mentally hurt himself, which is a really interesting route to go! ...I love how I talked more about Mikey than my actual favorite Tagiru lol. Idk, I just think Tagiru is Davis but better, and I like how fiery Tagiru is, plus his partner Gumdramon is awesome

Favorite Blue Bestie? ...Ken? He’s literally the only one that’s NOT blue lol. So if I had to pick an actually blue boy I’d say... Koji? Kiyoshiro is also a strong contender

Favorite Redeemed Evil? KOICHI! KIMURA! Can I just say HIS plot twist was the only one i NEVER EXPECTED??? And I can answer you why: I was so young watching the other Digimon seasons that I couldn’t remember my reaction to the plot twists and just knew them as facts, OR I was too old watching the other seasons that I predicted or just accepted the plot twists easily. BUT KOICHI’S???? I was just the perfect age of “can remember my reaction to this, but not old enough to theorize properly.” I remember when we first say Koichi on the train flashback, I thought it was Koji! I thought Koji got sent back too. So when I learned Duskmon (Koichi) was KOJI’S TWIN, I flipped my shit y’all! ALSO! Koichi is a dark lion how could I not love him lol.

Favorite Digimon? If I had to pick a ‘mon to be my partner: Gatomon, duh. But favorite digimon character? Probably Gumdramon for his backstory (wild child!) and personality, but Gammamon might potentially usurp him. Renamon and Impmon are some of my favs for their friendship though!

Favorite Partnership? Hm, Hiro and Gammamon for the big brother-little brother relationship? Or, Kiyoshiro and Jellymon just because they’re like the only male human-female Digimon pair and I like their dynamic. Really, I like any partnerships from Tamers or Ghost Game best; they feel the most natural, realistic and flesh-out in those seasons. Meiko and Meicoomon are an honorable mention

Favorite Series? GHOST GAME! It used to be Frontier, and Frontier will always have a special place in my heart, but Ghost Game is so freakin’ good. So, Ghost Game, then Frontier, then Hunters. I like the ones that are least liked lol. I like GG just cause of how polished and cool it is, but I love Frontier for nostalgic reasons plus the kids turning into Digimon was so unique and I loved its movie. Hunter just because I like the concept of ‘hunting’ the Digimon like theyre Pokemon lmao :)

Subs or Dubs? Both. Both are good. I prefer watching dubs, though, and tend to stick to English names and such, but I’ve read enough Japanese names fics and obviously Hunter and Ghost Game only have subs, so I’m more than used to Japanese names and versions, and prefer it in some ways (Yuu > Ewan supremacy).

Favorite Ship? Oh, Daiken (Ken and Davis/Daisuke) hands down. You can’t even convince me they’re not gay with the “I can feel your beating heart” bullshit. Is this even a question? Other than them, I also really like “Ken crushing on TK bcus of when TK hit the Digimon Emperor” and also Tagiru X Yuu/Ewan! But also I’m very flexible in my ships lol. cause I also like Yuu x Airu. ALSO Tai x Sora x Matt supremacy! Digimon Tri really solidified and made me love the hell outta that polyam ship.

Favorite Headcanon? That Kari is asexual aromantic! She has no interest in guys (or gals) but feels pressured to. She really feared that her best friend TK would want to get with her and it would all be ruined, but unknown to her, TK was in a similar situation! He was aspec but thought he was pure straight, and was thus a serial dater and a bit of a “player” cause he couldn’t really keep a girlfriend due to having no real emotional attachment to them/fading interest and him always wanting to hang w/ Kari instead. He’s likely demi and only has feelings of attachment/romance for Kari, but he’s also possibly asexual, just uncertain. He and Kari end up as queerplatonic bf/gf! Kari gets the relief of always having her bestie with her without any pressure to be “romantic” or, to her absolute horror, sexual, and TK can feel secure and loved without worry <3

Favorite Digimon Fan-media? Obviously The Ultimate Gathering of the Digidestined is awesome, but its literally a crime if you’ve never read the comic Digimon Frontier Re-Birth. Literally @digimon-fr is the fucking best. as far as im concerned its canon and I love Geopardmon and Nachtmon, darkness babies

An intro post is overdue, I guess.

You can call me either Seruni or Ai, whichever is fine. I usually go by Ai in most fandom spaces, but I'd like to create(?) another identity to go by in Digimon fandom in particular (though I'd like to remain lowkey here).

Bio in a nutshell: she/her (cis woman), 20+ y/o, GMT+7, working adult with art as a hobby. I may draw for Survive, perhaps, someday.

I speak Indonesian (native), English, and Japanese. I don't consider myself as that fluent in either English or Japanese (doesn't help that I'm mostly self-taught in English and completely self-taught in Japanese), but I can understand and communicate just fine in both languages (admittedly, I'm a lot better in English than Japanese). I also used to learn German, so I knew bits of German.

This is my sub-blog for Digimon Survive mostly (because I already made my main a song translation blog for a different fandom without thinking much back then--if you see that account liking your posts, that's me alright), though I may use it for Digimon stuff in general in the future. We'll see.

My introduction to Digimon was through Digimon Adventure (anime) and the first Digimon World (game). I grew up with the Indonesian dub of the TV shows (which were 100% based on the original Japanese) before rewatching all the shows in Japanese, so I'm more familiar with the Japanese names and terms. That's why I consistently use the Japanese version of the names and terms. I hope you understand.

I really enjoyed the first 4 Digimon anime (Adventure, 02, Tamers, and Frontier). I've watched all seasons up to Hunters, anyway. I'm also up to date with Adventure-verse, having watched all tri movies and Kizuna Last Evo. Looking forward to the new 02 movie.

Survive is what got me back into Digimon games after not touching it for a long while (my last Digimon game before Survive was either Digital Card Arena or the 3rd World game, I forgot which one came last. It's been years ok). The whole human/Digimon partnership in the anime shows (particularly in the earlier ones, Adventure especially) strikes emotional beats that I rarely find elsewhere, and hearing that Survive was going to play around with that more got me hyped for the game. Thankfully the story delivers in that part and I'm really happy with what we get from Survive.

I like all of the characters in Survive (humans and mons alike), they really make for an interesting cast. Although I'd like to specifically point out that I unironically like Shuuji as a character (he's my favorite, and not in a "love to hate" kind of way), and considering how much hate he's been getting from the fandom, I'd appreciate it if you don't bring any Shuuji hate here (otherwise you're getting a block from me). You're free to dislike the character, it's just that the excessive hate has been ruining my enjoyment of Survive.

Aside from Digimon, my two other biggest fandoms are Idolish7 (+ La Danse Macabre event story too, I consider this a whole 'nother sub-fandom of i7) and Tales of series (I've played all mothership Tales games, but my most fav are D/D2). I used to be very into .hack// as well, but my interest in it has waned over time thanks to Bamco practically neglecting it.

Other stuff that I like: Oshi no Ko, FE3H, Scarlet Nexus (honorary Tales title tbh), D.Gray-man, Blue Period, Gundam shows, Zanki Zero, AITSF, Persona (especially 4), Kiseki series (up to Ao only), Mawaru Penguindrum, FMA, Hoshi no Samidare, Gin no Saji, etc.

I'm also very into seiyuu (Japanese voice actors) and voice acting industry. This is very important.

Rin Okumura x Reader: First Bell

Wow...I have not seen any Blue Exorcist content in a while! But I have to admit I am a big fan of Rin Okumura! He is definitely on the list of some of my top fav anime characters! 

Considering I am a not so popular writer, I decided to write for a not so popular anime! (I don’t know how it isn’t popular, I freaking love this show!) 

Anyways-! Onto the story! As always if you would like a Part 2 to this I will gladly write one! And constructive feedback is always welcome! 

Warnings: PG-13 (Spoilers!: This story will be taking place right after Season 1 of the anime! Nothing beyond that point will be talked about however!)

        You remember it like it was yesterday. Rumors of the gates of Gehenna opening, with True Cross Academy being in the center of all of it. Nobody believed the rumors. Why should they? It had been years since Satan had crawled out of the gates of hell and rampaged through Assiah. You had your doubts however. Everyone knew about the son of Satan, how he wanted to become an exorcist. And then...the gates opened. There was panic everywhere, doors to True Cross Academy opened, mirrors were placed to deflect light through the darkness. And then...Your school was destroyed. 

    Opening the doors and letting in sunlight through mirrors was a great idea and it had saved many lives in the short amount of time that it had been planned. However, nobody had expected demons to lurk in the shadows behind the mirrors. Nobody had expected large demons to find their way through your school and tear it down whilst having sunlight beat down on them, destroying them as well in the process. What in the name of Assiah did they do it for? Nobody knows. However now you had to start somewhere else for Exorcist training.  Everyone in your school then was moved to different schools that offered the same program so you could continue your studies. And of course...Having your luck, you landed at True Cross Academy. 

    Most everyone who was in your course back at your original school was spread around so that one school wouldn’t be mobbed with exorcists in training. Not that you were complaining about getting into one of the most prestigious schools in the country, it was just the student body that worried you. To say you were scared of the twins of Satan would be a lie, but it wasn’t like you were jumping out of your skin to go meet them either.

    The first bell had rung of your first class of the day. Demon pharmaceuticals. You gently held your backpack straps and bit your lower lip. You stepped forward and gently pushed open the large door in front of you. It was heavy, but years of training and working out to make yourself stronger helped out a bit with your struggle. You stepped inside and looked around the classroom. There weren’t a lot of people there, which pissed you off considering you had to leave a lot of friends behind to come here. Your eyes travelled to a boy holding a poppet. A girl with purple pig-tails. A boy with pink hair. There was a boy with a blonde Mohawk. One with a shaved head and glasses. A girl with blonde hair. And finally the two who have had your curious since you entered the school. 

    One stood in front of the class wearing the official exorcist uniform. His ears were pointed, and if you looked close enough you could see fangs poking out of his mouth. Your eyes however lingered on the tail that poked out from underneath his official jacket. His hair was black and he had two beauty marks directly under his eyes. 

    “Sorry I’m late!-” A voice called as another demon boy jumped through the threshold of the door. “Holy shit, who are you?!” He asked with wide eyes. Almost like he couldn’t stop the words from spilling out of his mouth. He had the same demonic feats as his brother but his hair was blue and he looked roughed up. Your cheeks involuntarily heated up at the comment. 

    “Rin! Don’t be rude!” The other demonic twin said and wacked his brother on the back of the head gently with his hand. “Everyone take your seats and I will explain everything.” 

    “I-...I’m sorry are you my teacher?” You asked softly and a bit confused. He offered a kind and sweet smile. 

    “Yes I am...Now take a seat anywhere you see fit and I will begin todays class.” He said and went back behind the counter in the front of the room. You nodded slowly and sat down in the far back corner as to not be disturbed. You had known there would be two of them...You did not expect one of them to be your teacher. 

    “As you all are quite aware, we have a new student today. Miss (L/n) please come up and introduce yourself.” He said, and the moment he stopped talking all eyes were on you. Especially a pair of demonic ones. Slowly you got up and walked to the front of the class. You stood next to Mr. Okumura and started talking. 

    “My name is (F/n) (L/n) I was transferred here after a demon escaped from Gehenna and trampled my school while supplying light here through mirrors.” You started, but soon got cut off. 

    “What?! No way! Not one demon from that portal made it’s way through those thresholds!” The boy with the blonde strip shouted as he stood up. 

    “Bon! Lower your voice!” Yuiko scolded him. 

    “I assure you it did-” You started. 

    “Are you sure it wasn’t someone’s familiar?”

    “No.” 

    “How do you know?!” He said getting defensive.  

    “Bon!” Yukio shouted. “That’s enough just let her talk...Please continue...What kind of exorcist are you training to be?” 

    “I want to be a tamer...Well I am a tamer...But I have been studying being a Knight on the side.” You replied softly 

    “And why did you want to become an exorcist?” He asked. You went utterly silent. What would they think if you told them why you were really here? Would they think you were crazy? Probably. A dream to live in peace with demons was not a dream that people take kindly in this field, and you knew that better than anyone in the room. “If you don’t want to tell us you don’t have to...,” He said placing a hand on your shoulder. You glared at his hand and he suddenly pulled it off. 

    “...Your so warm...,” You said softly. “Nothing like the other half demons...,” You said softly. 

    “Well what did you expect?” The girl with the purple hair said sarcastically. “They ARE the sons of Satan...and by the way your reason to become an exorcist doesn’t matter to us...There are two people sitting in this room who want to kill Satan.” 

    “Kill Satan?!” You asked shocked. “That’s suicide...,” 

    “Is not!” The other demonic twin stood up. “I can totally do it!” 

    “I’m going to be sobering honest with you Okumura.” You said and looked straight at him. “Your still half human. You will die.” You said plainly. “Half-demons are mortals...,” 

    “So what?! If I’m so crazy then why are you here hmm?” He questioned. Now the whole room was staring right at you. Your cheeks heated up from the sudden attention. 

    “If I tell you....You can’t laugh...,” You said softly. 

    “Nobody will laugh at you.” Yukio reassured you. 

    “I-...I believe with enough hard work...And studying...We could...Live in peace with beings from Gehenna...And I know it sounds crazy-!” You said. 

    “That’s a great goal!” Rin said shooting up from his seat with a sloppy grin. And there was a moment of silence in the room. A moment you took to mark this in your memory. He was the first one to not laugh, or judge, or try to convince you that your dream was not in reach. 

    “...So is yours...,” You replied softly before sitting back down at your desk.

    The next day was your first day doing academic classes at your new school. Currently the first bell for lunch had rung and you went to get food. You stood silently in awe as you noticed there was nothing left for students on a budget. You groaned softly and your shoulders slumped. 

    “Hey!” You heard someone say behind you. “You hungry?” You turned only to find Rin behind you holding a bento in his hands. His hair covered his ears and his teeth were still fanged like, but normal enough to be considered normal. And his tail was tucked away somewhere, but it wasn’t exactly like you were looking for it. 

    “Yeah...Actually...I didn’t get to eat breakfast today either...I’m like the last person to show up every day...,” You chuckled softly. 

    “Wanna split my lunch?” He offered. You did a little double take. 

    “You would...Do that?” 

    “Hell yeah! What are friends for?” He asked and motioned for you to follow behind him. “Follow me!” He called. And soon the two of you were off. After a little while of walking and trying to find a good spot for lunch, you both settled on a patch of grass. “Here...I have an extra pair of chopsticks.” He said and handed them to you. 

    “Thanks...,” You said softly and took a bite from his lunch. “Wow!” You said with your eyes lighting up. “This tastes amazing!” Rin felt his cheeks heat up and he bashfully looked down. 

    “Oh stop!” He said gently waving his hand back and forth, then reaching down and taking a bite from his lunch. “Sho...Do you rweally fink shat we can live wif demons...,” He said with his mouth filled. You couldn’t help but giggle a bit at it. 

    “What?” You asked with a slightly tilted head. 

    “Do you really think we can live with demons...Ya’know...In peace?” He asked looking up at you. You paused for a moment and hummed. 

    “I don’t see why not...,” You trailed off.

    “Where did you even get that idea in the first place? I mean- not to be rude...But I don’t think you just woke up one day thinking that humans and demons should live in peace...,” You hummed softly at his question and thought about it. 

    “Well...Way back when I was a little girl...I got attacked by a demon, it latched on to me and slowly was draining my life away...I was only 7 years old at the time.” You sighed and smiled. “But then...An exorcist came and she banished the demon back to where it came from.” 

    “Why didn’t she just kill it?” He asked sipping on his water from his plastic bottle. 

    “It was against her belief...I hold some of those beliefs.” 

    “What were they?”

    “She believed that all life was a precious gift...I believe that too, however I also believe that sometimes things need to die to keep balance...Like how predators kill their prey to survive. I believe the same for demons, that they shouldn’t die unless it’s life on the line.” You blushed. “Sorry I’m rambling.” 

    “No no! I totally get it! That’s a very interesting kind of thinking...but I like it!” He smiled a wide toothy grin. You blinked and felt your heart pound in your chest. 

    “Everyone calls me crazy...When I tell them that...,” You said softly and pushed some hair behind your ear. 

    “People say that about me when I talk about killing Satan...So I guess we’re in the same boat!” He raised his hand to give you a high five. You smiled and gently clapped your hand against his.

    After that, your relationship with Rin got much better. You sat next to him in classes, ate lunch with him, did your homework with him, and he even let you come over to his dorm and meet Ukokbach. All in all, you enjoyed spending time with Rin, and he enjoyed spending time with you. And slowly over the course of about three months, you both began to develop feelings for one another, feelings a bit deeper than friendship. 

    It was just before Yukio’s class when it happened. You were just walking down the long winding hallway with huge doors, when you saw something behind you glow. It was Rin, a bit of blue fire gently licked at the top of his head, and the tip of his tail. His cheeks were a soft pink and his walk looked uncomfortable. 

    “Rin...,” You said softly. “You okay..?-”

    “Your really hot and pretty and I wanna go out with you cuz your really cool and I feel like we would make a good couple so whaddya’ say?” He said really quickly. It took a moment for your mind to process everything that he had just said to you. You gulped softly and smiled, leaning forward and placing a soft kiss on his cheek. 

    “Let’s start with dinner Okumura...,” You said softly, then you heard the first bell ring and smiled. “We’re gonna be late.” You sang before heading into the classroom. However, Rin stood frozen, with red cheeks. A wild large flame surrounded his body as he celebrated in the hallway. 

    “Yes! She likes me back! Oh shit I gotta make something good for dinner!” He cried happily, completely unaware...

    ...that you could hear him through the door.

Fav ep of digimon & why?

Besides the dub IceDevimon voiced by Christopher Walker?? Oh boy uhhh

My brain says “Hurricane Touchdown” but that’s not really an episode. Tbh I never thought of a particular episode being my fave

If I had to pick I think Million Points of Light from the end of 02 cause it’s epic and a great conclusion to that season. I like the characters, all the Digimon, the villain redemption, and the epilogue lol

Otherwise like the Deva arc in tamers stands out. Angemon’s first appearance, Shakkoumon’s first appearance, TK punching Ken. OH! Kens like redemption episode post losing when he gets Wormmon back is a good one.

I’m gonna tack this one - Hunters Who Leapt Thru Time and Digimon Universe Applimon are just perfect seasons and there’s def great episodes in them!!

Digimon Frontier had the best digivolutions in the franchise. Its also my fav Digimon season. I barely know anyone who likes it as much as I do :D

Ok ok so I positively adore frontier, I haven’t exactly been counting I but I have watched and rewatched it more than any other Digimon season. I know people didn’t tend to like it compared to others because of the sentai elements or because they didn’t like the characters but I could not get enough of it. Still can’t!

Like, yeah, is it flawed? Of course it is, all the seasons had some kind of drawback or two to them. But there’s so many cool things it included!! It may not have managed such a consistent ‘computer’ theme like Adventure and Tamers but imo I think it still had some of the best worldbuilding, and I feel like it did the best job of feeling like a separate world with its own independent society that intermingles with one another. And all the setpieces felt so grand and colorful. (Breezy Village and the Village of Flame are probably my favorites) It all felt like one massive, intrepid adventure with a sense of wonder to it all. And honestly just in general I think they whipped out some really creative concepts compared to other seasons, like the giant toy castle and the Rose Morning Star. Hell, there was an episode on the frickin moon!! And the king of the moon was a star that sounded like Elvis!!

As much as people seem to dislike the season’s concept of actually turning into Digimon, I honestly thought it was a really cool idea? Maybe it’s partly because when I was a kid watching the show I really preferred the monsters over the kids themselves. Sure tamers helped, but they never did the actual fighting. Having the protagonists actually fight gave the show a lot more stakes I think because they were always directly in danger, plus there was a tangible way to show that they were growing more powerful with time, being able to defeat bigger and more dangerous enemies. 

Which brings me to another thing!! Royal Knights Arc!! Spending several episodes showing the protagonists actually lose battles but slowly altering tactics to grow better at fighting and gradually overpowering the enemy, all the while showing off more of the awesome worldbuilding and showing how Digimon society reacts to the possibility of being annihilated and everyone working together to help one another!! The tension of slowly losing more and more land and watching the world vanish but never giving up!! Callbacks to earlier in the series!! The series tone was at its peak during the whole thing

And this is just a personal thing but I think this season scared the shit out of me as a kid more than any of the others. I always hear people say Tamers was the most horrifying season but it never really creeped me out for whatever reason. But like. Ominous creepy demon child monologuing about the end times while trapped in the planet’s core. Knowing that right from the start the world is on the cusp of all-out war/total annihilation of all life following two other massive conflicts. The concept of the edge of the world vanishing and you can literally fall into the endless abyss (less openly terrifying than the others I guess but HOLY SHIT did that concept scare the hell out of me as a kid). Mercurimon’s creepy ass mirror face and the fact that he was able to murder several powerful characters without even directly attacking them. The idea of losing your mind and body to a bloodthirsty creature but also needing to take that risk otherwise the world is 100% fucked, the entire Sakkakumon arc with the combination of forcing middle schoolers to face their deep personal trauma and that horrifying fucking face, culminating with him beating the main protagonist within an inch of his life and nearly snapping his neck and only hesitating for the sake of his own sadistic enjoyment. LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT DUSKMON. LITERALLY EVERYTHING. EYES DO NOT GO THERE. 

And there’s so many other things I could ramble about, like my appreciation for them flipping the basic premise of ‘light=good and dark=bad’ right from the get go by having the wielder of the spirits of light be an asocial asshole and also showing that not everything associated with darkness is inherently bad/evil/frightening, or that when I was little I wasn’t the biggest fan of Junpei but now that I’m older he’s my absolute favorite because I find his story incredibly realistic and relatable. But I think I’ve made my point and then some already. Frontier good. I like a lot. Now I want to watch it again.
