i think the reason the dsmp fandom is so flawed stems from the discord within its parent media tbh. the storyline is discombobulated in every sense of the word— and there are NOT a lot of interpretations other than “more unsteady than a shit faced sorority girl”. it would be unfair to compare the dsmp to a book or a movie since clearly a story created by multiple people who refuse to communicate in any fashion other than passive aggressive subtweeting will never compare, but i still think there is merit in calling out the lack of central theme. in D&D, although every player has a specific story and development path they want their character to take, the story is guided by the mind of the dungeon master, and therefore the sub character storylines can coexist with a unified plot. i think early dsmp rp which was mostly wilbur dominated (because he was the only one roleplaying with his whole chest tbh) is most comparable. and also the only time we didn’t all hate each other. but now with the story branches, utter lack of communication, and slow death of the story (please just take us out back and give us the ‘ol yeller) we really can find the root of this massive dumpster fire in the smaller dumpster fire it was bloodly birthed from. also apologist discourse wouldn’t be so bad IF THERE WAS ANY PLOT CONTINUEITY AT ALL. UR ALL FUCKING RIGHT AND UR ALL FUCKING WRONG NOW SHUT UP AND GO OUTSIDE.

Thinking about how all throughout his time housing c!Tommy in the second half of his exile c!Techno was routinely running into c!Dream, but hiding Tommy from him. Techno kept secrets from one of the only people who was usually on his side, not working with him nearly at all. But it was worth it to Techno cuz in his eyes him and Tommy were finally on the same side against a common enemy(Tubbo)!

But then after a single, quick reunion, Tommy turned his back on him, stood with Tubbo again against everything Techno knew about Tommy’s experiences (not much, but that ain’t his fault). And once again Techno was the feared enemy surrounded by people who hated him, even the kid he had given so much to protect.

While I’m sure the story would’ve been different if Techno knew the full extent of Tommy’s exile, it makes perfect sense to me that Techno would go back to Dream. He had already gone through the execution, seen the effects of Wilbur’s death, lived through Manburg, L’manburgs influence still plagued his life and threatened his security. He was retreating back to those he could trust and knew would look out for him, not look at him like a monster or a weapon.

Sorry guys I know it’s been a long time since I brought up this morality debate but I still think man’s was so valid.

After Pandora, Dream didn’t like being left alone, so to remedy that he started sleeping with Techno and then when Patches came she started sleeping with Dream and Techno (because Dreams paranoid)

But it became a routine, something Dream can’t quite break after being so alone and getting so used to Techno in general, it just became the new normal to share a bed with your -very annoying kind Dream would add- roommate.

I wish I knew how to find analyses of c!Techno & c!Dream's relationship in DSMP that don't have c!Dream apologist undertones/overtones.

I want to see discussion of the morality and implications of c!Techno teaming with and helping c!Dream, an abuser, (especially for jailbreak) because I don't really have enough of the context to know how much of that was c!Techno not realizing c!Dream was a manipulator and abuser to half the server vs how much was him not caring, and I want to know so I have a better picture of c!Techno as a whole. (Me being late to the fandom and not having quite all the details of the lore)

I've said it before, but emeralduo fans would level up in fan content the moment they realized that the character best in the position to farm angst is dream.

he's the one whose Actually at the center of the power structure on the server, having been in control for years. he's the one whose had the revival book that he's Completely Willing To Use to torment and bribe people with (when he'd made it Completely Clear that he'd be willing to torture and kill phil on repeat in order to test it, and when both phil and techno are already down to one life). he’s the one that’s not only a physical match for techno, but who has other strong people that he’d be able to manipulate into fighting with him (punz, bad, and ant in the present and a host of other people further back in the timeline).

and dream is serial killing mass murdering manipulating abuser with a god complex who sees every single member of the server as his property that he’s free to use however he wants.

if techno is ever going to be the underdog in any situation it’s going to be with dream, and the angst potential Of it is Something Else.

because technoblade thinks he’s safe from dream, he thinks dream has some level of respect for him. and he does, in the sense that he sees technoblade as a weapon to point at the people that he wants to hurt.

as long as dream Doesn’t have absolute power technoblade is convenient because he can use technoblade as a means to an ends. but he doesn’t Care about technoblade. and not only does he not care about him, he’s an Obstacle. because technoblade is an actual challenge to his authority. he’s an actual match to his strength and his wealth and, more recently, to his connections.

which means that any reality where dream makes a bid for total control over the server is going to have to include “dealing with” techno one way or another.

if technoblade and dream had been allowed to go into conflict after dream’s escape, when technoblade openly refused a partnership with him, then season four would’ve been good.

(or it at least would’ve had Any Overarching Conflict At All)

ANYONE but him. Also it would be nice if it also wasn’t c!Dream (because tbh narratively) it doesn’t make for a satisfying ending to las nevadas). 

But on the bright side c!quackity healing arc may be incoming. Because I doubt he’s gonna get a totally awful unhappy ending.
