Danny's first appearance as Phantom to the wider public over in Central City where he gets control over Ember. At first it was assumed he was a Super but that was quickly disregarded simply by the lack of association/symbol identifier and power set. Like how wild would it be to have some random villain no one has seen before wreck half the city with no way to stop them and a new hero come in and easily stop her when some of the top heroes couldn't.

Here is also Flash freaking because of a new hero as he was the first hero to actually see/interact with Phantom.

Also I still have no idea what to call this au so it's still going to be non shrike au till I figure it out, but thank you aus because that means slightly different designs and headcanons to incorporate! This AU takes place when the trio is all in college, nearing the end of their studies. Danny is majoring in Physics with duel minors in inorganic chemistry and maths over at Central City University. He's mostly living on his own without much help other than from Sam. Between breaks or semesters, Danny interns over at S.T.A.R. labs. Also because I can, Danny has faint lichtenberg scars on one side of his body that are now pretty hard to notice. He loses most of the playfulness with his fights as he gets older because he has things to do and the whole hero thing is just kinda a side gig at this point.

Even though they're apart, Sam, Tucker, and Danny all remain close. Sam ends up going to a different university, Gotham University specifically to study animal sciences. She works with wildlife rehabilitation centers or animal rescues throughout the town and donates to them. Tucker ends up at Star City University studying engineering with a minor in history, taking up a part time job to help manage the uni's computer labs.

What's the difference between a fauxmani and a didicoy (re)connecting with their heritage? I tend to see them conflated and it's confusing.

i see them conflated too but the way i understand it is that fauxmani are gadje who claim romani culture while most of the time not taking the time to actually learn what it means to be roma, romani chib, our history with oppression/slavery/etc.

fauxmani i feel also tend to align themselves more with a caricature of roma, and not actual romani people and culture, mostly because they dont care enough about their supposed heritage to actually educate themselves on it and instead claim themselves as "gypsy" to feel special

didicoy on the other hand is more associated with the mixed roma who were raised gadjekane, who do not speak romani chib and dont have romanipen. whether a didicoy wants to reconnect or not is their choice but if they wish to do so then a good way to go about it is to first find romani activists, authors, scholars, etc. to listen to and read material from

the word didicoy can be used as an insult but i think neutralizing it and having it be associated with well meaning didicoy instead of fauxmani is a step in the right direction

but tldr: a fauxmani is a gadjo who claims to be roma for clout while misunderstanding and misrepresenting romani culture; didicoy actually have romani heritage and put work into understanding and learning from roma to better reconnect if they wish to

11. calling each other by their names, plain and simple, or calling each other really flowery pet names?

Suguru isn't one for very flowery pet names, so I think he mainly uses my name. however, I think he does use some more classic terms of endearment like "baby" and "my love." he calls me "sweet girl" a lot too because he knows it makes me blush 😭😭

and I think for him, I mainly use his name because I love it so much + I really like the nickname "Su" for him <333 and I call him "handsome" a lot :3

12. constantly hanging off each other or keeping a tame distance in public?

I kind of touched on this already, but I don't think Suguru is big on PDA. so I think if we're out and about he keeps it tame, but he likes to hold my hand while we walk together or guide me gently with his palm on the small of my back. very delicate, but still meaningful touches.

13. stay at home dates or out on the town dates?

even though we're both introverts, I think we like to go out for our dates! we like to go to concerts together a lot, and I think we do this all year round. but in the spring and summer (when the weather is sunny but it's still cool enough for comfort) we go to the park and he reads his book out loud to me in his beautiful voice while I sketch pictures of him in my notebook :') and he feeds me blackberries because they're both our favorite <3

i have many favorites but when i think about it, maggie is an all-time fave. she is everything I’d want to be and yet also a prime example of why everything you want to be is not always everything that they are. idk if that makes sense, but although she is strong and intelligent and wise and confident, she also has many insecurities and fears that make her just like everyone else. anywho… although she is fictional, she will always remain an old friend that i have dinner with every now and then. forever close to my heart!

sim i’ve had the longest: roma

roma is the first child of my legacy, and she’s still kicking! mainly because i take things slow, but also because I have their aging set to long lol. she is so super special to me because.. well.. i raised her! i watched her go through trials and tribulations, witnessed many of her happiest moments, and even saw her become a grandma to five (5!!) little kiddos. she has been in my game since hmm i’d say late 2016 or early 2017. so it’s been .. No NO NO WAY ITS BEEN ALMOST 7 YEARS NOOOO wwhAT!! i feel so incredibly old. OMh…. okay sorry she is just. so special and I’ll be so sad when she passes in my game.

I'm really curious about what Roma has going on with Osybus, how much he knows, how much you know... I am very eye emoji about it in general. Especially the significance of the increasingly? invisible limbs? A rad looking effect to be sure, but also hmmmmmm. (Also I saw it was your birthday recently! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!)

WAH HELLO!!!!!!!! THANK U YES IT WAS (SPINNING HEARTS EMOJI) ROMA’S THING WITH OSYBUS IS A REALLY DEEP VEIN (I personally like it a lot because it naturally interacts really closely with many of Roma’s deepest fears, desires, coping mechanisms, and personal beliefs, and as a narrative device and mechanical plaything I couldn’t have asked for anything better) 

As a general ask “what’s roma’s thing with osybus?” is one of the most pandora’s box-y things you could’ve asked, so I hope you don’t mind if this is a bit wordy and like, ALL over the place.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

Fast answer first: We (OOC party and IC pcs) believe that Osybus originally was part of I think Sessinek, or at least a larger being, and that he’s connected to the amber temple in some way. We also think that we released Osybus when Roma shattered one of the artifacts at the death house, but that’s a theory. Roma also has no idea how Deep he is in with Osybus and enters any transactional interaction with the idea that it may be his last, but I know he’s a little over halfway to being so far gone my DM takes him as an NPC. 

GENERAL BACKSTORY, Osybus is the headfriend (I don’t know the term for it but we just call them headfriends) Roma contracted with during the Feast in Vallaki. We were literally fighting for our lives in front of the church of St. Andral and things were looking pretty grim; a lot of the party was either fully missing or really badly injured, and Strahd was about to land a coup de grace by luring Ireena outside of the safety of the church via killing the party member she was in love with, our druid healer. In a last ditch effort, Roma used his turn to beg Strahd to make a deal with them to spare them, but Strahd very coldly refused because “there is nothing you could give me I would want,” and Roma was devastated. 

It was after that second Osybus contacted Roma in his mind, that he was Osybus the Immortal and that he could save them. Roma initially asked if he could save the whole party but Osybus said that was beyond his power, and that Roma could only choose one person for this gift. Roma was torn, so he decided to ask Osybus what Strahd wanted the most. 

“The girl.” Osybus answered. 

“Then he can’t have her.” Roma replied. “I pick Ireena.” And then Osybus killed Ireena!!! (Ireena was fine tho, and then not, and then worse, etc etc you know how Barovia is) 

Roma’s relationship with Osybus has morphed over time, starting from gratefully deferential due to Osybus “helping” Roma out so often and also due to Roma not having anyone he could turn to for assistance or companionship for a stint of time, to eventually pettily and one-sidedly antagonistic on Roma’s end due to VR’s warnings and some subsequent bad deals. 

That being said, despite it all Osybus is usually the one Roma turns to whenever he feels trapped and cornered, because Osybus’ power to grant wishes is often Roma’s only ripcord in situations where the options left to him are usually death or worse. Osybus has also been nothing but obliging and polite to Roma (though he has shades of sounding like, possessive), which makes interactions all the more sticky since Osybus has such a strong hold over him. 

The ghost limbs are one of the penalties from wishes from Osybus! Roma usually takes some sort of penalty whenever he makes a wish, and since I had some troubles with the original way Osybus’ penalties manifested (rot and decay) my DM kindly changed it to make his limbs translucent, with increasing transparency the more wishes Roma makes. He also has trouble leveraging their strength now that they're translucent and doesn’t have a shadow anymore! 

One of the last things to know about Roma is for a long time, he didn’t consider himself to have many strengths, but one he Did have was a VERY solid sense of self. He understood what he himself wanted, innately and always, and was really decisive about wholeheartedly pursuing whatever he believed was right (even if he was Really Not.) 

More recently, Roma also has begun to realize he has a lot more to gain in the world now that VR is back in the picture, and wants to spend whatever time VR has left to just, hang out with VR. When the adventure in Barovia ends, the first (and honestly, only) thing Roma wants to do is visit Van Richten’s greenhouse. He wants it more than anything in the whole wide world!! 

However, both of these things are now in jeopardy, since Roma is now So deep in Osybus’ penalty shootout with already so little to forfeit, that Osybus has started to change parts of Roma’s desires and personality as payment. And Roma is KEENLY aware of the changes and dissonance and the payments happening, but because they feel “natural” to his personality he struggles to disobey. 

Roma’s current dilemma is now--in extremely high stress, high danger situations-- having to choose between dying having never experience The Thing He Wants More Than Anything, or dealing with Osybus to survive to the end but risk being altered so much that the original reasons he made the deals for no longer matter. Real die a hero or live to be the villain type nonsense. 

#TL;DR RELATIONSHIP WITH OSYBUS IS REALLY STICKY AND OSYBUS IS REALLY GOOD AT EXPLOITING EVERY POINT OF ROMA'S PSYCHE #don't even get me started on roma's relationship with TRADES and DEALS and TRANSACTION INTERACTIONS #which is the PRIMARY way in which Roma interacts with osybus #its REALLY STICKY #i also considered copy pasting a screenshot of roma's list of osybus penalties and gifts but i decided to spare you #asks #oathkeeper-of-tarth #THANK U FOR THE ASK...!!!! 🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

Two people with a very complicated relationship finding a bit of common ground. Nothing that heals everything, but just a moment of understanding between two people who know they love each other but usually fail to see it. My favorite example? Dick and Jason. The way I write them they cared for each other as almost-brothers back before Jason's death and now this failed realization poisons all their further interactions. Jason hurt the people Dick loves. Dick put others before Jason again and again. AND YET there are constantly moments during which they understand each other. Maybe better than then understand anyone else.

This is nothing that can be fixed with a hug, but every now and then they share a cup of coffee and the world doesn't end.

Okay... if i have to.... No, but for real. I think my writing is pretty solid. Nothing world changing but also nothing to scoff at. I am secure enough in my ability to write that I can spend my time writing all the weird little stories I know will get little interaction because I know the lack of hits doesn't say anything about my abilities - and the freaks and weirdos and friends who also enjoy the same niche content I usually strive for? They deserve well-written content just as much as everyone else. I know I make those ten people happier with my small niche fics, than I probably did with those fics that reached a lot of people (not that I dont love them as well).

And what makes these stories worth reading? Well, I think I'm good at detailing emotional scenes. Both humor and pain. I love exploring grief and feelings of cultural displacement... and I think that's what makes my writing special. 😁

What would the SS characters favorite colors be?

I associate Roma and Juliette with red and white, but ik they probably wouldn't like those colors very much because of the association with the gangs. Unfortunately they cannot escape that association in my head so I don't have a real answer for them.

Benedikt is a light sky blue to me. Or maybe a light orange.

Marshall is dark green maybe?

I don't know why, but in my head the specific shade of light green that Alisa's dress is in the flf and fhh official art is the Celia color.

Rosalind's favorite color could be the shade of pink the flf cover is or maybe the same shade of green that the qipao she bought in flf was.

I think Alisa's favorite color is yellow because vibes. Or a very specific shade of purple.

I think Orion's favorite color is either the specific shade of of blue green that his suit is in the fhh art because I associate it with him now. Or maybe he doesn't have one specific color but just likes softer colors based on how his room was described in fhh?

I'm not entirely sure about Oliver but I him dressing in darker and neutral colors mostly in my brain.

i actually do kinda like delivering groceries on the side because it gives me such a unique cross-section of the community. i never know whose groceries im shopping for until i finish the delivery and see them/their home and it's like it adds more detail to the picture of who they are. the baby supplies going to the apartment that i know for a fact is one bedroom (they'll be moving soon - i bet they're apartment hunting, i hope they find a place). the new cat litter box, bowl, and kitten food going to the house covered in "i <3 my dog" paraphernalia (a kitten definitely showed up on the porch recently and made itself at home). the fairly healthy boring grocery order that includes an incongruous tub of candy-filled ice cream going to the home of an elderly woman with toddler toys in the yard (it's clearly for her grandkids, whom she sees often).

shopping for someone else's groceries is a fairly intimate thing. i've bought condoms and pregnancy tests, allergy medicine and nyquil, baby benadryl and teething gel, a huge pile of veggies paired with an equally huge pile of junk food, tampons and shampoo and closet organizers and ant traps and deodorizing shoe inserts and a million other little things that tell a million different stories in their endless combinations. one time someone had me buy one single green bean. i messaged them to confirm that's actually what they wanted, and they said yes - neither of them liked green beans very much, but they had a baby they were introducing to solid foods, and they wanted to let him try one to see if he liked them. another time i had someone request 50 fresh roma tomatoes - not for a restaurant, but for a person in an apartment. the kitchen behind them smelled like basil and garlic when they opened the door. another time i brought groceries to three elderly blind women who share a house. that was one of the few times i have ever broken my rule and gone inside a place i've delivered to, because they asked if i could place the grocery bags in a specific location in the kitchen for them to work on unloading and there was no way i was going to refuse helping.

i gripe about the poor tippers, but people can also be incredibly kind. one time i took shelter from a sudden vicious hailstorm inside an older lady's home in a trailer park, while i was in the middle of delivering her groceries. we both huddled just inside the door, watching in shock as golf-ball-sized hail swept through for about five minutes and then disappeared. she handed me an extra $10 bill on my way out the door.

when covid was at its deadliest, people would leave extra (often lysol-scented) cash tips and thank-you notes for me taped to the door or partially under the mat. i especially loved the clearly kid-drawn thank you notes with marker renderings of blobby people in masks, or trees, or rainbows. in summer of 2020 i delivered to a nice older couple who lived outside of town in the hills, and they insisted i take a huge double handful of extra disposable gloves and masks to wear while shopping - those were hard to find in stores at the time, but they wanted me to have some of their supply and wouldn't take no for an answer.

anyway. all this to say people are mostly good, or at least trying to be, despite my complaints.

For a moment or two he's glad for the wind; because even though it was bitter as shit it had the added effect of blowing the scent of tobacco away from him---because this seemingly prissy, goody two shoes would definitely rat him out for smoking---and that was worth standing against its bite, no matter how fierce or repetitive.

Roma knew that if he left now---if he left when the forest was drawing in; close enough to smother the moon, close enough that it made you want to run the whole way home, he'd never hear the end of it from either Byasha or Anton. He'd never hear the end of it from Anton in particular---his classmate's fear of the forest bordered a kind of fixation that Roma himself couldn't quite place. It was as if he knew something that they didn't---as if the new kid had lived there far longer than anyone else in town. So he'd wait, there was no other option. He'd wait for his friends to finish their stints in detention and then they'd all walk home together with the WIND AND THE WILD BITING AT THEIR HEELS WITH EVERY SINGLE STEP.

charles is sitting next to lando and max, pierre next to him as alex stands in front of them. he’s aware they’re talking about what they’re expecting from this weekend, but he can’t seem to focus on what they are actually saying, only picking up pieces of the conversation. he’s too focused on his phone, the message thread he has with Y/N staring back at him. the last text he has from her is just a simple ‘cool’ after he was trying to play it cool.

“what you doing, charlie?” max asks, playfully poking him in the ribs. he immediately locks his phone, raising his head only to find that everyone is looking at him already.

“i know what he’s doing.” lando wiggles his eyebrows and charles wonders if he really needs his fingers to race. “you screwed up.”

charles knows he screwed up, and definitely doesn’t need lando reminding him the awful mistake he made for just trying not to sound too intense because, of course, he’s made that mistake in the past. and every girl he’s had something with always said the same: ‘you’re too much, charles’, ‘you’re taking things too fast, we should take a break.’ so ever since the last girl he dated, once again, said the same thing, charles promised himself he would not be that guy.

“hey,” alex has this look of pity in his eyes that he doesn’t like, not even one bit. “maybe we could do something to help you.”

“i don’t need your help.” charles’ tone is too sharp and abrupt it’s makes him feel a little bad for talking to his friends like that. but just a little.

“look, you like her, right?” pierre chimes in, but doesn’t wait for an answer. “alex is his best friend, if you want a chance with her, he’s the only one who can help you right now.”

but why does he wanna help him?

alex must see the question written all over his face because he says, “she’s dated a few assholes in the past and i really want something good for her. i trust you, charles.” he tries to look serious which only makes charles laugh. “besides, i have the perfect idea.”

SATURDAY MAY 20, 2023 — THE MISSION 007 DINNER

the second you see a head of brown hair standing at the door, you want to walk over to where alex is sitting and smash his head on the table. you made sure before arriving to the restaurant that charles was not gonna be there tonight, even lando told you he was busy with some ferrari event. obviously, both lied to you.

“hey, charles!” george, who’s standing next to you, his girlfriend carmen at your other side, waves at him. and for the first time since that fateful dinner a few days ago, you make eye contact with his bright brown eyes.

butterflies break free inside your belly, even when you try to repress everything he makes you feel.

you’ve known charles for no more than ten days but it really feels like you’ve known each other your whole life. everything is so easy with him, you can’t remember when was the last time you felt this way, if it ever happened.

you thought everything was going well between you two and, for a minute, you let yourself believe he could like you. but then he gave you the cold shoulder and everything came crashing down.

and that’s your problem. you always feel so much in so little time that when things don’t go the way you’d like, everything hurts twice as hard.

there’s no one to blame but you.

“hey,” is it possible to like the sound of his voice so much that you feel your knees going weak?

“you’re the last one to arrive. here,” george shares a look with his girlfriend that you don’t really know how to read, and both move aside. “you’re sitting here tonight. we’ll go find our seats.”

you want the earth to swallow you. you want to be in a plane far away from here because the seat george is pointing at it’s right next to yours.

before you can open your mouth to say something, the couple slips away. and suddenly it feels like you and charles are the only ones in the room.

no one says a word for what feels like hours. you’re actually trying to find a excuse to leave when charles sighs, defeated.

“i’m sorry.” his voice is almost a whisper, something only for you to hear. “i acted like an idiot.”

“yeah,” you agree because you don’t know what else to say. he did act like an idiot, ignoring you for days, not answering your texts even when you asked him if something was wrong.

“i can explain if you’d let me.”

his brown eyes bore into yours, so soft and sincere your heart skips a beat. and even if you want to say no, your whole body begs you to accept.

“let’s eat first and enjoy the evening,” his face lights up like a kid on christmas day. “then i’ll let you buy me dessert and we can talk.”
