the bronze horseman is based on the book (depicting the 1824 great flood in st petersburg and also some deeper literary meanings etc etc i'm not very literate tbh).
also if you go watch the recording that's on youtube, you'll see maria koshkareva, sofia valiullina and yaroslavna kuprina as three out of four of the children's roles - I think they're first-years in it :) im always so amazed to see current grads being small children in HD video on youtube, i'm not used to being older than professional ballet soloists lol
OMG! They are babies! I definitely saw Koshkaryova and Valiullina, but not sure if I could identify Kuprina. For a second, I thought I saw Olga Morgulets — the child (now adult) featured in the documentary about Vaganova aspirants along with Anna Sharova.
I did a quick scrub through the video — and I'm intrigued by this ballet, but was caught off guard by the man in blackface. Why??!??! Now I'm going go back and read more about this ballet, the literary references, etc. I did see that it was inspired by a Pushkin poem of the same name.
Interestingly, it was revived for the Mariinsky stage by Yuri Smeklov, who is retiring in a couple of days. He also re-constructed Paquita, and I wonder if he will devote more of his time to restringing the classics for he Mariinsky or choreographing more contemporary projects, which he just did with Daria Ionova. Either way, I wish him luck!
felt super brave today and emailed my favourite author of all time on her public work email if there is ever an option to email out my hardbacks to sign. her signed store has since shut down so i don't want to be spoiled cuz i already have 1 novel signed by her but can you imagine if i had the hardbacks i had since i was a teen signed by the truest and greatest female romance author of all time?
i'll keep you guys posted if this ever happens :') or if by chance she does reply. what an amazing christmas gift to myself it would be :')
"Tatiana sprang into his open arms, and Alexander, lifting her off her feet with the force of his embrace, couldn’t hug her tight enough, couldn’t breathe in enough of her. She flung her arms around his neck, burying her face in his bearded cheek. Dry sobs racked her entire body."
Don't TELL ME I just sat through 1000 pages of ww2 HORROR just for THAT ending.
There's 2 more (long ass) books in the trilogy but if they're going to just rip my heart out and stomp on it as much as the first one, I may as well not bother 😩
I'm gonna go read some fluff and feel sorry for myself instead 🤧
It seems to me that our three basic needs, for food and security and love, are so mixed and mingled and entwined that we cannot straightly think of one without the others. So it happens that when I write of hunger, I am really writing about love and the hunger for it, and warmth and the love of it and the hunger for it . . . and then the warmth and richness and fine reality of hunger satisfied . . . and it is all one.
hi! can i request a web weave on telling awful truths? how we lie or dont tell the truth because we want so badly to hold on to what we have? and the guilt that comes with hiding awful, dangerous, shameful truths for the sake of your own peace, for the happiness of others? i have an awful secret i cant tell my friends because it would break up our group and im afraid no one will believe me and ive been really struggling with it </3

"It was a perfect day. For five minutes there was no war, and it was just a glorious Sunday in a Leningrad June. When Tatiana looked up from her ice cream, she saw a soldier staring at her from across the street." 🌹🚎🍦
I'm 1/3 of the way through The Bronze Horseman and I'm so fucking mad I could throw my phone out the window.
Somebody who has read this monstrosity tell me it gets less infuriating. Does he ever stop fucking her sister right in goddamn front of her? I'd poison his pirozhki 😤
