So in conclusion:
Peter Dutton has jumped from a non constitutionally enshrined voice as an alternative to the Voice, to just elect him as leader next election, because that apparently will work just as well

Epic Games was the developers behind the first three Gears of Wars games as well as the spin-off 'Gears of War: Judgment,' while Microsoft was the publisher.
In 2014, Microsoft would acquire the rights to the series and give development of all future games to the in-house studio: The Coalition.

Seeing as Gears 5 is in one of your year-end recaps, how do you get on with Gears of War as a whole?
I own Gears 1, 2, 3, Judgment and 5. I've played 1, 2, and 5. All of them I've played co-op with my cousin.
They're pretty fun. Games that are good when they're good. I've heard Judgment and 4 aren't very good. I've come really close to either going back and doing Gears 2 solo or starting Gears 3 solo, but I never get around to it.
They're very dumb games. In a sense. Broken from the Michael Bay sense of action design, in a sense. Not so much "whoa we gotta have a sexy babe in the movie somewhere" but just in terms of like, big, loud, dumb, with lots of heavy color correction. Bloody to the point of comedy.
But they're also games that tend to go in one ear and out the other. They never linger in my mind a lot. They're fun, I like the characters, but like, I have one memory from Gears of War 1, which is Cole Train saying "LOOK AT ALL THAT JUICE." Which is notable enough they make a joke about it in Gears 5:
Tumblr media
The one thing I remember about Gears of War 2 is, uh, the thing Dom goes through, I guess. And the fact that you go all the way down into the Locust home, where all their architecture turns into weird, scary bone structures.
I wonder if playing them singleplayer where I can stop and absorb things more, really explore, would help me remember them better. But I have yet to do that. Heck, I've kinda-sorta been trying to replay Halo 3, the first time I've ever played that singleplayer too, and something about it isn't grabbing me. Not the right mood, I guess.
It's weird Microsoft hasn't even hinted anything about another Gears of War anything. Gears 5 was getting to be kind of a long time ago. Though looking now, I guess there's rumors and job listings that point to it being in development. Just nothing official or public yet.
Gears 5 was firmly okay. Very different vibe from 1 and 2. Less Michael Bay and more, I dunno, MCU. Very quippy dialog, a lot brighter and more vibrant in terms of color, etc. I liked it about as much as I liked the other two Gears games. Gorgeous lighting, though, even on my aging PC:

Tumblr media
Netflix has partnered with The Coalition to adapt the Gears of War universe. The video game franchise is getting both a live-action feature film followed by an adult animated series on the streamer. More projects in the Gears of War universe may follow.
Gears of War is a third-person so-op shooter in which society is threatened with extinction from the mysterious Locust threat. Delta Squad, lead by sergeant Marcus Fenix, is humanity’s last stand.

When we see Australian election returns they often resemble the chart above. And this final result is certainly accurate. The ALP (Australian Labor Party) won with 77 seats in the House of Representatives and so it can now govern with a majority.
But as a nerdy American hearing confusing and seemingly contradictory references for the past dozen days I decided to look a little more deeply into the actual parties which won House seats.
The result was the creation of this chart.
Tumblr media
What really complicates the party situation is the long term relationship between the Liberals (who aren’t that liberal) and Nationals (who aren’t that national). It gets peculiar in the state of Queensland where the two have tied the knot and now run on a common slate. To make it all simple, The Liberals, The Nationals, and LNP of Queensland are usually referred to as The Coalition.
Of course the complications don’t end there. Katter’s Australian Party and the Center Alliance are now essentially one-state parties; though Rebekha Sharkie (South Australia) and Bob Katter (Queensland) might dispute that.
The Australian Greens are indeed a regular party who even picked up one seat in May.
The biggest media splash in this election was made by a loose grouping called “teal independents”. It’s not really an official name but they seem to have split with the Liberal Party over the latter’s increasingly conservative policies on climate and social issues.
And to top it all off, there are four regular independents.
While initially confusing, it’s worth keeping up with Australian politics these days. The ALP has a clear majority under Prime Minister Albanese. And there are four Greens and six Teals who could support him on some environmental measures.
Australia is also in the process of coming to terms with its colonial past and maltreatment of indigenous peoples. We’ll be hearing a lot about the ULURU STATEMENT FROM THE HEART in the next few years. There may be elements of this which we might find applicable in North America.

TWO HOURS AGO: an incredible photo taken by a ut austin student capturing something deeply poetic in my opinion, a line of state troopers eagerly waiting to arrest student protesters standing just behind a sign that reads "what starts here changes the world. its starts with you and what you do each day."
