oo snowkit becomes snowcarve?
He does!
In StarClan, you can use the names and appearance that you could have had, if you died young. It's very rare that you get permakits or permapprentices. I lifted from the COTC story about Smallstar and his siblings.
(Though, in BB those kits actually survive and it's MAPLESHADE’S kits who lead to the law on protecting children, Darkstar's Commandment, the Queen’s Rights. Smallstar is the leader of WindClan and xey're super chill. Xey own a lovely shawl.)
So Snowkit chooses to appear as Snowcarve, an Honor Title he would have earned for the creation of a full written Clan cat language, expanded from the simple glyphs. I'm not sure if he's a popular patron, but I do know that Bramble and Tawny invoke him sometimes.
Unfortunately though he's more invoked for general guidance by the two of them, not for possibilities like I think he'd like. He watches over them though, like a guardian angel. A lot of cats secretly have those.
I'm not sure who he follows around more often though. I think he LIKES following Tawny more because she's a better listener to his omens. But he feels like Bramble NEEDS him more, y'know?
Also notably, Snowcarve was technically their uncle, but the relationship is best described as "1st cousin." Rabnir in Clanmew, a familial role about somewhat distant but parallel growth, seen also with Brightpaw and Swiftpaw.

Themes of Chants of Sennaar:
You can learn a lot about a language just by paying attention to context clues and patterns
Languages have different grammatical structures and ways of expressing things, especially plurals and ways for the speakers of the language to refer to in groups vs. out groups
Cross-cultural communication is good and can help solve problems by sharing or trading knowledge and resources
Xenophobia is a powerful tool that those in power will use to keep people divided and weak and trying to overcome it will be met with resistance and violence

Tangled
3-24 - Personal - Fan Art. Happy Journey Day...~ Did a late night art and game stream to celebrate this day, gods this game. So this is something small we finished, of our rythulian ocs with their connected scarf all tangled...~ And we decided for the two of 'em to take on the two chirp glyphs that we'd gotten for our two runs through the game-- Only we may use, do not steal.

currently luz only has a handful of glyph combos—invisibility, the sleeping steam spell she did with hunter, the hover spell, and the combos she got from phillip’s journal. i guess she kind of knows phillip’s teleportation glyph? anyway i’m surprised no one has said anything about trying to make a healing glyph? even if luz doesn’t know how to make one, you’d think she’d at least consider looking into it. healing magic is like. one of the basic things plucky fantasy adventurers need and luz is trope savvy enough to know that.
also it fits with her background. her mom is a vet and literally “heals” animals for a living. growing up with a parent like that, luz would have some interest or at least knowledge in medicine that she’d reasonably connect to magic. once she found out she can make glyph combos one of her first thoughts should have been “cool wonder if i can make a healing spell with that since i keep getting myself into danger.” the healing glyph definitely would have come in handy in the most recent episode where hunter almost died lol.
anyway if they never brought it up i dont think they’ll do anything special with healing glyphs. luz can’t discover every glyph combo for every spell in existence within the show. the fact that she’s “only” learned like 7-8 combos in all of season 2 and only discovered like 3 without phillip, shows how hard it is to discover these things. even if luz is considered to be “fast” at learning glyph magic. healing spells are just such an important part of the repertoire in classical fantasy, so i’m surprised that they barely mentioned it in the show.
#toh#the owl house#luz noceda#shut up pandora#this is because i saw her shirt with the staff of asclepius on it#which is a symbol for doctors and healing#its from her moms vet clinic but it made me think of the possibility of luz as a healer of some sorts in her adventures#obviously thats not her main role but the hexsquad doesn't really have a healer#unless you count hunter supposed first aid skills from the emperors coven#what would be cool is if the rest of luz's friends help her combine glyphs and make a healing glyph#and based on how luz is doing suicidal ideation now#and judging from her shadow in the basement scene in thanks to them#and the pattern of one of luz's owl family members sacrificing themselves to save her every finale#i predict luz is gonna get marcy wu'd while trying to save king and eda or her friends#and obviously she cant die bc shes the plucky teenage protagonist of a tv y7 disney show#so her friends use the healing glyph they came up together to heal whatever fatal wound luz gets#luz is quite literally healed with the power of friendship#weve seen everyone in the hexsquad but willow use glyphs after all#speaking of which willow still needs to have a scene where she uses glyphs i know her plant magic is strong but girl needs to expand#do a little wild magic as a treat connect with the rest of her friends by using glyphs#next episode i want willow to try her hand at using some glyphs#and in episode 3 i want luz to get horribly injured in the self sacrifice she'll inevitably try to pull#and her friends will come through and save her with the magic of friendship and whatnot#idk just a cool idea

the owl house finale was homophobic as hell, imagine going full titan magical girl and ur gf doesnt even get to see it #love loses
#owl house spoilers#ive only casually watched the show and its been At Least a year since ive seen most of it so i forgot a lot of shit#That Said#i never want to hear another word about what a hot mess the s/u finale is because My God#say what you will about the MoralityTM of it all but at least i understood what was literally physically happening#like a solid 20% of this was just incomprehensible#like??? when luz DISINTEGRATES into little orbs of light one would PRESUME that she died#but then one of the soul orbs lands in portal goo and she has a body again?? and we're told that she ISNT dead#but like. why not#what IS she then#never explained#and like luz's friends can't use magic when belos is possessing the titan which okay magic comes from the titan#titan is evil now#that means no magic aside from glyphs I Guess#but like. the glyphs are ALSO connected to the titan#luz just has to draw them out bc she isnt naturally a witch#if magic doesnt work glyphs shouldnt work either#which also makes the .2 minutes at the end when luz cant use glyphs anymore#but regular magic works fine#ALSO not make sense#and that doesnt explain why the COLLECTOR'S magic was gone and then suddenly back again#bc his isnt connected to the titan at all#i guess it was the philip goo?? but his magic stopped BEFORE he got gooped#AND he was able to use his magic while said goo was actively trying to disintegrate him later so???#its a cute show and the finale had some good moments but like. babygirl What is going on#also lol i meant to post this hours ago but left and forgot#here we are now

A-HA. I'm aware this is me connecting dots with silly string, but if Sundermount, the frame of Merrill's eluvian, Audacity, the primeval thaig, red lyrium — if they're connected to each other and to Dirthamen, if my theory about those eluvians being used study the blight from a distance, holds any water, then it could contribute to one of the puzzles in the Darvaarad. "One sees the hunter, one flees from it, one hunts it in turn, one outwits them all." The one who sees the hunter is the owl. Andruil is known as the Huntress. The owl is at times taken for her messenger but is a symbol of Falon'din. Falon'din is closely tied to Dirthamen. the Dalish now take him for Dirthamen's twin; although we know they aren't twins, ancient tales refer to him as "Dirthamen's shadow" and to Dirthamen as "Falon'din's reflection" rather than by their names. there's also this Song to Falon'din that, of course, speaks to his mastery over the Fade and might speak to some mastery over the Void, depending on interpretation. finally, statues of Falon'din are seen in the ruins where the blighted eluvian Merrill took a shard from was found.
I know this sounds like bullshit. I know it is tenuous at best. but it would be interesting if Falon'din and Dirthamen were closely watching her journeys into the Void. it would be interesting if they were attempting to master the Void; it drove Andruil to madness, but the Forgotten Ones were said to be able to survive there somehow. this research of theirs . . . could have caused the eluvian pathways to become blighted and perhaps the infection across the empire faster 🤔
anyway if the animal on the eluvian frame is an oryx and oryxes have a conncection to sacrifice, then I am drawing one more silly string line between that and Andruil being a Goddess of Sacrifice. irrc her journeys into the Void are what led to her hunting people or at least made her hunts of people more vicious.

Thinking about Gale's spellbook.
Not the old one, the one he carried when he was Gale, the Wizard of Waterdeep - a gorgeous, leather-and-silver bound thing that bulged with a lifetime's worth of accumulated knowledge. There were spells in there penned over wine and cheese with Elminster; in a flow state that bordered on the spiritual after a night with Mystra, remembering her instruction, the feel of her soul against his. That spellbook was the testament to his success, the proof that he had excelled beyond the excellent -
And then Mystra cut him off from the Weave, and it all become meaningless.
His own runes, rendered incomprehensible; beautiful spell-glyphs that turned from condensed power and knowledge to worthless pieces of art. He has to start anew, from the ground up - reforging his connection to the Weave without Mystra's guidance (without her, without), relearning schoolboy spells. Humiliatingly easy magic, the kind he used to do like it was breathing, except this time he has to study and work and try and try, Tara urging him on with firm but gentle words.
He learns different spells, now. Mage Armour, Shield, Magic Missile. Not the kind of spells that he'll ever need on a day-to-day basis; spells that'll keep him alive long enough when he makes an exodus to the depths of the Underdark, or the centre of some desert wastes, and goes supernova.
The new spellbook is a plainer thing, small enough to fit in a robe pocket (because extradimensional storage spaces are no longer things he can make with a thought). And then he's snatched by a Nautiloid, and... honestly, he'd swear that the spine just wants to hold onto blood-spatters, no matter how many times he cleans them out. The pages get spotted from all the times he's had to flick them open in driving rain; the corners get creased from being shoved in and out of his robes.
And absolutely nothing can protect it from the unstoppable force of his friends.
Karlach nearly sends the whole thing up in flames one night by gesticulating a bit too wildly. Wyll laughs too hard one night and sprays wine all over Gale's new notes on Abjuration. Scratch picks up the entire thing and runs off with it when Gale's back is foolishly turned, and it's only a stern talking-to from Halsin that saves the whole thing from becoming a chew toy.
Smiley cat faces, doodled on the pages in Yenna's untidy hand. A helpful comment from Karlach on the Fireball page: 'AKA FUCK YEAH LET'S GO!!!!' A few lines of Wyll's perfect handwriting, a memento from a long discussion about how infernal energies could enhance fire magic; a few observations from Shadowheart on warding enchantments. Some terse comments on psionic magic from Lae'zel that Gale finds himself weaving into his Shields, and they do seem to hold up a little better now. (Other hands on his spellbook! Touching the pages he carries close to his heart! The man he was would never have believed it.)
He thinks of them all, as he writes new spells. Counterspell, because nothing will touch them. Spells that will carry his people from danger and shield them from harm. He watches Astarion pace before the fire one night and inscribes Sunbeam with a cold smile of promise to Cazador; he glowers at Mizora over the edge of the pages as he ponders what spells would be best suited to killing a devil.
A wizard's spellbook, Elminster told him once, is a reflection of their soul. Gale of Waterdeep's spellbook was a marvel; perfect and polished and resplendant. Untouched by any hands but his own.
Gale Dekarios's spellbook is battered and beloved, covered on every page with the fingerprints of his friends.

So Luz’s meeting with Dad-Titan in the finale actually really nicely explained WHY there needed to be the whole time-loop with Luz being the one to teach Phillip/Belos how to use glyphs.
It affirms/reinforces the idea that Belos was always nothing but a fraud who never had any true understanding of the power he was using. Because it’s clear he COULDN’T figure out glyphs on his own and never would have without help. At the end of the day, ALL the knowledge and power Belos had was either given by others or stolen from them.
Instead, it was ALWAYS Luz who figured out how glyphs worked. SHE was the one who actually connected with the Titan. Luz was always the one to understand the magic she was using.

I don’t think I’m ever gonna get over the sheer amount of religious symbolism present in toh finale
The colonial puritan, this white man, trying in vain to become God in the only way he knows how, through fire and brimstone and absolute control, only for Actual God (one of MANY, mind you) to be this casual, kind, bi-gender being who presents to Luz, a mortal, through a combination of the things that have loved and protected her son (Hooty, Eda’s bad girl coven shirt, the glyphs that Luz uses) and who wants magic to be accessible to all so they can enjoy and experience life, who tells jokes, and wants the first and last thing said to his son directly from her to be a bread pun about how much he loves him
How the symbol of a Winged Being Shrouded in Light who helps guide and save is this wild witch who’s imbued in this pagan magic, who’s fully embraced and accepted her disabilities and the very things Belos deemed wrong through the eyes of his ideology
How The Archive is this halo atop the head of the god figure, how it begins to fall and crumple the moment Belos takes over to reach his idea of godhood
The Titan’s body, controlled by Belos, reaching towards the heavens in the same image of Adam in The Creation, trying to touch God, the idea of touching what gave life to everything as symbolized by his connection with Adam, everything being obliterated where it stands while this is happening, and then how only in being bereft of Belos’s soul did life finally return to what is posed as Adam, without the need of the God imagined by Belos
Etc. etc. etc.
There is just,, so much
I am in shambles

Something I think is neat is how Amity gets so much better at abominations AFTER her grades begin to dip.
She’s spent her whole life doing her absolute best to get the best grades and be the top student, but she is wholly unable to create powerful abominations. She needs a power glyph to make a threatening one in early season 1. She’s doing everything ‘right’, but it’s not helping her, because she’s straining herself on keeping up with academic nonsense and her spirit is crushed by having no real connections to anyone.
And then, in season 2, in Escaping Expulsion, Odalia notes that Amity’s grades have fallen. But Amity is so much happier with the genuine connections she’s made! She’s been finally made to feel like she wants to be more than what her mother wants of her, and she wants to be happy. And that likely means not sacrificing every waking moment of her life to school anymore. It’s not something she can keep up with when she knows she wants more, and deserves more. And despite the dropping grades, she’s thriving! For the rest of the season and show, she’s easily creating abominations at the same level or higher than what she used to be able to create only with a power glyph. She’s able to do so much more when she’s able to be herself, recharge, and relax with people who genuinely like her for her
Tldr: Amity’s focus shifts from solely academics to including elements of self care and self love over the course of the show, and without the intense mental strain of being a perfectionist student, she can actually thrive in her magic studies

Camila inspiring the kids to use glyphs in the finale is a way for her to connect with the isles she was initially apprehensive towards in the previous episode…
Tumblr media
It’s Camila bonding over the connection to the isles her daughter Luz shared with her, by teaching her glyphs in the human realm! Loving something her daughter does, reciprocating the effort to get Camila to know it. Following in Luz’s footsteps. But also…
Tumblr media
Luz has the Titan’s magic at this point; Which powers the glyphs. Meaning she’s helping her mom and friends here by powering the spells they need to save the people of the Boiling Isles; They’re calling out to Luz, and she’s answering. She’s with them this whole time here. Luz and Camila, mother and daughter are wielding magic together, just as Luz and Eda do!!!
