Here’s the thing I don’t think Akane got replaced as the good boss Kougami could work for.The timing was right when Kougami got scouted by Frederica(which I don’t think Frederica did alone because she’s also a special investigator.Same rank as Kougami..She probably was interested since Saiga’s lessons sure but she needed approval from way higher ups in foreign ministry).Nobody in MWPSB had the power to bring back someone in sibyl’s kill list.Moreover they only need obedient enforcers.Not someone like Kougami.MoFA needed his unique skill set and gave him a good deal(I suspect he wanted to come back too).He took it.That’s pretty much all there is to it.Also Frederica is very loyal to Shogo Yabuki(I assume she got promoted to occupy this post after ppp?)MoFA means a lot to her(like unit 1 of MWPSB does to Akane).She is also very competent.Kougami,Gino and Sugo seem to have good workplace dynamic with her.(also I can tell they like her as both a boss and a person from their interactions in the pp3)Here’s the thing I think Gino saying “Our chief is so cool.Just like a female kougami”is more like Gino fanboying over her because he thinks she’s very cool?That doesn’t mean their romantic compatibility.More like they are both cool people(they are obviously) and have similar interests..They also have mutual respect going by ppp and pp3.(I do think Frederica understands Kougami’s predicament at least to a degree).Now I am not saying they can’t be a good ship,they definitely can but so far there’s nothing to suggest it’s romantic?As far as canon goes she’s competent(like Akane and Mika),loyal to MoFA and a good boss.And we should leave it at that.(Personal opinion she’s just so beautiful she doesn’t even look human😛It’s so hard to get past her beauty because why does she have to be so pretty for? She’s already competent🥲)

Yeah, I hope you didn't think I was bashing on Frederica. I'm just not that curious about her. She's good at her job and she's not a jerk. She's competent and beautiful, but that doesn't pull me emotionally to her or makes her as good a character as the holy trio.

Kogami is cool and hot and handsome, but he has an irreparable flaw that he sees and is unable to fix himself. Ginoza has remorse, regret, nostalgia for his father and he's lonely. Akane fights with the system and has paid with blood for opposing it when she could just sell out. All these people have things moving them from inside in all directions. There's doubt, introspection, internal struggle, bad decisions, trust put in the wrong people, pain. They tried their best with what they had and they fail. Kogami failed to feel like he avenged Sasayama and is hounded by the ghost of the man he killed. Akane failed to protect Kogami. Gino failed to tell those he cares about that he loves them until is too late.

Heck, even Mika is more interesting to me. Imagine knowing your friends got killed by a psycho and the killer got away. You'd be pissed at hell too at the incompetence of the police and you'd think you will change things from inside only to end up messing up and causing a terrible tragedy. You become the thing you hate. It's beautiful.

As for the Hanagami ship...(yeah, I just named it like that lol)... I don't know. I don't really see it. Maybe a fic would get me into it? I don't know.

Wow what a throwback to see the DBSK video on my dash!! I wasn't there for their debut but I was a fan all through high school, even had the mirotic CD and DVD tour that I sold a while ago. I wouldn't call myself a Kpop fan though as I've never listenned to or followed any Kpop group aside from them. Jaejoong was my fav so I followed Jyj for a while, jae's carreer in dramas and had his first solo album before life got busy and then I moved on to other fandoms. I remember seeing and downloading so many videos from them back then from live performances and concerts to TV appearances and those few cringe dramas in their early days that included fangirls screams haha. I also remember about yunjae but wasn't that invested as I didn't have tumblr or any social media then just youtube and forums for dl links. Anyway it's 5am and I can't sleep even though my alarm will only ring in two hours but your post brought me a smile and a wave of nostalgia so thank you!!

I was curious about what issued you've personally encountered with Stampede!

I'm completely new to the series, I know there's an older adaptation also but supposedly it was very inaccurate to the story and I'd love to know the differences between iterations before sticking to one.

I am definitely 👌 close to just reading the manga and nothing else though, given that Stampede didn't really spark joy for me as I'd have hoped it would.

I am not by any means a Trigun 1998 purist or anything, I actually got some issues with it too later on once they deviate from the manga. Personally, I think between the three the manga is ABSOLUTELY the better version just in terms of storytelling and visual style and whatnot. I very highly recommend it.

Trigun 98 nails Yasuhiro Nightow’s visual style perfectly. It’s got absolutely iconic music, and it’s one of those animes that helped make anime a big thing in the US. Plus, I’ve got a lot of nostalgia for it personally because I watched it first and as a kid. It’s very good.

The problem with 98 is that the Trigun manga took a hiatus and was republished later under a different magazine, and from that point on is known as Trigun Maximum (if you do watch 98 this split starts to happen right after the stuff with Eriks and the little timeskip) so it misses out on a LOT of good stuff and makes up it’s own ending. But up to that point it’s a phenomenal adaptation.

Trigun Stampede is… it’s a weird case for me. Because while on the one hand I don’t hate the cg style here, I also feel like it’s wrong for Trigun. It’s so crisp and clean instead of gritty. They seemed to be leaning a lot more into the sci-fi side of Trigun than space western and it’s just a surprising choice?

They’ve done a great job characterizing Vash. I was actually very excited to see Knives using y’know KNIVES lol and (while I haven’t got there yet) I know the ending of the series plays into 98/the manga somehow. But it felt weird to me watching it when so many characters were weirdly different.

They made changes and I don’t get why? Like changing the planet’s name from Gunsmoke to No Man’s Land lol why? I personally was really hoping they would give us more accurate manga adaptations but instead they gave us something that was neither. It keeps a lot of that original Trigun peace and love to it, but every character change leaves me just looking at the screen and going “WHY”

Just for example about what I mean (and the biggest example of it)

One of my favorite manga characters is Livio. I love Livio. He isn’t in 98 at all. But he has a big part in the manga. The second he showed up in Stampede I was pretty annoyed. They took one of my favorite character designs and just…made it real bad. And so far the characterization doesn’t seem right either, although I’ll admit it bothered me enough I haven’t watched more yet.

None of these things make me consider it an abomination or anything, I do believe there s a lot of good stuff there. Just makes it hard for me personally to keep watching. It could be better!

This is a new OC ( the character remade) from the video game “Sally Face” from 2016

I recently gotten back into the franchise I used to be into it back in high school on my old deviantart that is now deactivated.

I honestly can’t escape the nostalgia and sal poor boi 🥲🥲 he deserves better.

This is Bethany Davidson, she is the girl next door that lives in room 403 during her junior and senior high school years.

Bethany, Beth or Bethface is a seer, she has the third eye and can see the past, present and future along with connection to the sprit and dream realm.

The third eye sight runs in Bethany’s family and on occasions not every family member has the third eye.

Bethany’s grandmother prior to her passing told her “The third eye is a gift my dear and not a curse despite how grim the future holds there is always a rainbow in the other side”.

Bethany also specializes in cartomancy, she has been or acting ever since middle school and because of this she is call a “Witch” most of the time than a Cartomancer.

In the beginning when I created my OC she was named Bailey back in 2018 and was actually a Descendent of witches and was a Hereditary witch.

An hereditary witch is someone born as a mortal with magical abilities from their family line.

At best, Bethany is close to a grey witch, she plays a hero role as the seer with her third eye sight to help save the world as best as she can.

She is also known as “Sibyl” a nickname given to her while she was in high school.

In Greek mythology, Sibyl was a seer that saw all, past, present and future and help those in need or prophecies.

Beth is good friends with Larry, Sally face, Ashley and Todd; she is also Sal fisher love interest.

In the beginning sal has a crush on ash and when he meets Bethany he crushes on her as well.

But the more sal and Beth get closer the more Beth turns more into a love interest than a crush unlike ash and sal’s relationship.

Beth and Sal are basically high school sweethearts in the trial but she is only there half of the episode.

Unlike the resistance of the Addison apartments, Beth met a fate worst then death.

As a Seer in the beginning she only saw her future as Sal killing her so the darkness wouldn’t spread and when she attempts to try and save Sal.

Bethany is told there is no happy ending for either of them by her grandmother and great grandmother ghosts.

“You knew this was coming granddaughter, your friends fates are absolute. There is no happy ending in real life.”

Bethany couldn’t rewrite their fates no matter how much she tried to change the path and when she became a nurse she was willing to accept she was going to die by Sal but it never came.

Instead of Sal killing her the cult sacrificed her to the red eyed demon and cursed her to revive and become a dead walking girl, a Zombie.

Bethany became a zombie, she wasn’t mindless her brain was still active and could speak but for awhile she was awake.

In the beginning of Memories of Dreams, Bethany walking corpse was in the basement with chained up to the wall while maple was in a cage curled up.

When Ash found Beth wondering in the woods she couldn’t believe Beth was okay but when she got closer she realize she wasn’t okay.

Ash was distraught that Beth was a zombie and she crooked her words as she was walking slowly to ash.

Ash knew Beth was still in there but had to be careful because now Bethany wasn’t human anymore she desired flesh of the living to survive.

Ash would go down to the basement and feed Beth some live animals since she didn’t want Beth to have a craving for human flesh.

Ash had to bring Bethany to her senses, Ash had brought an old blue stuffed bear with a pink heart eye path around the right eye.

“Beth? I thought you might want this…I found him in you’re old apartment…” Ashley whispered as she kneel in front of Beth.

Bethany crawled to the stuff animal and held it close and tight, she heard “I love you” come from the stuffed bear.

Bethany looked at it and started to whimper and sob, “Sally….face….” She sob louder and hugged ash for comfort.

Ash hug back Beth and whisper, “It’s okay…Bethany it’s okay….” She said as she rubbed her crazy hot pink hair.

man, back in those days kdramas and movies were hard to get your hands on. there were no official sources, fansubs were always a crapshoot, and if I wanted to own something i’d have to wait for a china trip to get a physical copy. I remember coming across this dvd in a random video store in my dinky little hometown and being elated.

the plot is pretty simple - arranged marriage, hijinks ensue. one thing that I appreciated on rewatching though is how the gender roles are reversed in the development of their relationship - bo eun is the one who does whatever she wants and sangmin quietly looks out for her and plays the self sacrificing spouse role.

man, i’m obsessed with moon geun young. I was already a fan from autumn in my heart (THE og classic kdrama❤️), and she freaking owned this movie. she’s just so good. she has so much range, and she nails it every time. her knack for physical comedy is insane, she portrays the cheeky teenage girl character so well. all her cute little mannerisms in this are super naturalistic and charming. I miss her doing comedy, I really do.

kim rae won also gets to work his comedy chops here, and acquits himself admirably. I have no idea what he’s up to now, but I remember when he was one of the Hot New Things. this made me feel super old - the realization that my contemporaries are part of the previous generation of pop culture now🥲

also wow shin se kyung is stunning in this. they put a little too much makeup on her for my taste, but man she’s just so pretty. no surprise she went on to become a leading lady.

watching this sent me on a massive nostalgia trip. the 2000s was when the hallyu wave was really starting to peak, and so many mainstays of k-ent were formed during this era. the music, fashion, actors, story tropes, all of it reminded me of how exciting it was to be a k-ent fan at the time. the internet made everything accessible to the west, and I remember going on the d-addicts forums (now there’s a name you haven’t heard in a while!) every day to gush about the popular new shows. veteran actors like hyun bin, song hye kyo, song seung heon etc were just getting their breakout roles. looking back, it’s insane how far we’ve come and how much k-ent has proliferated. I appreciate the ability to just pick up my tv remote and netflix any new kdrama, but i’ll always have fond memories of those early years.

Even the slightest noise from you can bring a smile to his face.

He could hear the sneaky steps whenever he pretends to be asleep because you don't want to wake him up.

The little throat clears every now and then.

The rapid taps of your keyboard, followed by a long silence when you try to put your thoughts into words.

The way your voice changes subtly with good or bad news.

He loves how your accent alters some pronunciations when you read to him.

He loves it, even more, when you speak in your first language.

"How do you say 'sweetheart' in your language?"

You explain how there isn't an exact translation for it, but there are terms of endearment that express the same thing. And when you ask why with a touch of amusement in your voice, Matt says.

"I'm just curious. What would you call me, your sweet boyfriend, in your mother's tongue?"

You think for a moment before granting him his wish.

The nickname rolls off your tongue so effortlessly. The consonants in your mouth create something more complicated than what Matt is used to.

You gave him the literal translation of the phrase in English.

Even though he didn't understand the unfamiliar sound, a faint touch of blush drew on his cheeks and the tips of his ears. The thought and sound of you calling him by an endearment term in the language you had known your whole life made his heart flutter.

Matt tries to pronounce the words with your help. He says them repeatedly until the sound loses its meaning in your ears.

He asks you to teach him your favourite pet name.

He never misses a chance to call you by the lovely nickname he insists on using.

He isn't shy to use it, even with an occasional botched attempt in saying it. Whether it's in front of his friends, anywhere at all.

The nickname follows the cup of coffee he makes you, always with a kiss on your cheek, on your forehead.

It's almost as if he wanted to press the term of endearment into you, imprinting it on your skin.

While words can not express just how much he loves you, Matt wants to make sure you can feel the immense love he reserves only for you in the language you have known since birth.

You have a favourite restaurant that you often visit. You love it for the nostalgia of your home, the connections and the friendships you have made here.

Matt loves to see you immerse in the welcoming atmosphere of this place.

He has the most adorable smile just listening to you conversing with the owner, bonding in your language.

It also gave him an idea.

It was a typical night for both of you.

By typical, Matt comes home one night when most people should be asleep. And you're up to tend to his injuries of the night.

You press down on the edge of his gauze, securing it over the wound on his chest. Matt's hand seeks out yours, pressing the palm of your hand directly on his heart.

You can feel it – his heart is beating much faster than usual.

"What's wrong? Are you okay? Did I hurt you?"

The concern in your voice laces into the nickname, which is spoken softly right after your apprehension made itself known.

The skin on his neck is slightly flushed; his mouth opens and closes.

You start to panic until the unexpected yet very familiar words make their way to your ears. Your head takes longer to process them as a broad smile spreads across your face.

"I love you."

The pronunciation was a little off, but the intention was evident in the earnestness of his face.

It was in the slight furrow of his brow, the blank eyes that were warm like his embrace, like a kiss on your forehead when you woke up next to him in the morning.

Matt took your silence as an alarming sign. A slight frown appeared at the corners of his lips. A look of worry etched onto his face as he got flustered.

"Did I say it wrong?"

You held onto his hand as you felt him pulling away from you. You brought it to your face, pressing the back of his hand to your cheek, letting him feel your smile.

"No, no. It was … perfect. You caught me off guard, that's all."

Matt exhaled slightly; the tension evaporated a little in his rigid posture.

"I love you, too."

You whispered the love sentiment to him in a way it was always meant to be said. Tender, full of love. And you got to say those words to him in the way you always knew how.

I adore the cdrama Legend of Fei and Yang Jin is one of my fave characters in it 💕 Cloud Ravine is where Yang Jin is from; it’s got a pretty sound to it, too, and it felt like a perfect simple-yet-beautiful new url to go with after finally taking the leap to change my brand url theleavesoflorien 🥺

Meow Ears Up (2022), episode 1

Miss Minoes: Always Listen to Your Felines (2001)

For context: Minoes (2001; Eng.: “Miss Minoes: Always Listen to Your Felines”) is a Dutch children’s film based on a children’s book of the same name by Annie M.G. Schmidt, a very renowned author of many beloved children’s books. For me, it was probably the first film I ever saw in a cinema. The plot is basically about a cat that one night tries a taste of a weird fluid leaking from a barrel filled with a mysterious substance , which miraculously turns her into a woman. She then runs into an aspiring writer, who’s not exactly Mr. Popular and has no idea what to do with this beautiful, yet very peculiar woman in his house. What follows basically a reversed “Kimi Wa Petto” plot, in which Minoes has to learn how to behave like a lady rather than a feline. And obviously, it ends very romantically…with a wedding. 💒

You might recognise the lead actress (yes, that’s Melisandre from GoT 😉), but she brilliantly portrayed a cat stuck in a human’s body. (The whole arsenal of cat behaviours: from purring to hiding under furniture; and from drinking milk from a saucer on all fours to climbing into a tree as soon as a dog passed. 😹) Fun fact: although Minoes behaved completely “cat,” nothing about her appearance gave away anything about her feline identity. (So no ears, and no tail.) And since this is a film aimed a children, Minoes arrived completely clothed, along with a suitcase (for some reason…)! 😅 I don’t know if the portrayal of Meow is going to be that detailed, but I felt a rush of nostalgia when I saw the plot of this show. Let’s hope it won’t disappoint. 🙏

CELIE FROM TUESDAYS AT THE CASTLE YEAH !!! man i love her so much she <333 i actually reread tuesdays recently and ive had like. not brainworms exactly but dude i !! all the characters and the castle have so much personality, like in a way i feel like u dont see too often? like, it's like george picked a primary character trait for everyone and built them up around that and it works so well!!! honestly lulath of grath was always my favorite because his name was fun to say and he was (1/?)

he was always so funny ? like, hes all floaty and such and he makes me smile oikredfk but yeah man the stakes are so well done and its another like super believable expression of childhood- celie's fear is always so real, but so are here silly pranks to get back at the council. and its (like willow falls, this is why i associate them ireujkd) one of my favorite portrayals of magic? like. this castle is a person. cope. is one of my favorite things ever its so funny but also like (2/?)

it's genuinely another of my favorite characters? and it has permanently affected the way I view settings/locations in fiction, like to this day i see them as (if not their own person) a representation of the people who live there and i !!!!! man. sorry for clogging your ask box i just have so many feelings abt the castle glower books and i can actually articulate them (which i wish i could do w willow falls ikhrfewd) (3/3)

ahhh omg i never even put it together but yeah it DOES make sense that i loved both willow falls + tuesdays at the castle: it's the realistic, personable, lovable characters!!! the castle's personality was AMAZING. i remember little more than lulath's name for him 🥲 so i'll have to take ur word on his personality and coolness (i DO remember his rooms expanding bc of his kindness tho and his dogs also) BUT THE CASTLE + CELIE?? i'm RIGHT there w u!! i think it's bc the book just kept getting more and more insane that it was just straight up endearing and celie of course plays practical jokes on enemies bc the idea of waging war in response to intruders is such an adult way of thinking, and so it's so humorous yet realistic and the deep pov and just MM 😤 jessica day george did GOOD with that one

and yeah the idea of a castle having a personality like that, at the time of the book's release, was BRAND new. simply the freshest thing on the market, taking if walls could talk and making it reality, like the whole thing was so creative and done w such genuineness and people's homes ARE fragments of their personalities and the cultivation of their growing up and just 🥺 i remember being like eight or something and going on bike rides (90% sure there was a bike thing in either tuesdays at the castle or wednesdays at the tower) and thinking abt how cool it'd be if my house changed like hers and thinking of all the cool things it'd create just 😭 the nostalgia
