My take on the Chuggaaconroy situation

A few days ago, LadyEmily, a creator who works as an writer for Sarah Z., spoke out about her negative experiences with Emile, known online as Chuggaaconroy.

I have been a fan of Emile’s content for almost as long as I’ve watched YouTube. Emile’s channel was the first I’ve ever subscribed to, back in 2008 when I was 6 years old. Today, following MasaeAnela’s account, I am unsubscribing from Chuggaaconroy- and I implore you to do the same.

When Lady Emily’s account first came out, I was mostly in disbelief. There was a very clear dissonance between the Emile in the messages shown, and the Emile I know from the videos. However, I didn’t deny that these allegations could very well be real.

I’ve watched this guy’s content for over a decade now, but I cannot claim to know him personally. His online persona being nice doesn’t mean his actual self is without fault. What I didn’t really buy in Emily’s statement was the accusations that this happened to more people than just her.

Mostly because she didn’t provide any proof of the sort, nor was any other account of this type of behavior from Emile, public as of yet. So when MasaeAnela, a persona who’s been associated with Emile for years now, claims the same things happened to her- that’s when I decided it was over.

Why did Masae decide to speak out now? It was simply because Chuggaaconroy has been a recognizable YouTube figure for years, and has amassed a very loyal following. Going against Emile is not a wise decision, not because his follower base is stupid or immature, like the fanbase of say, DreamWasTaken. It’s moreso that his fanbase spans a very wide range of people, and has been amassed for so long. People are attached to Chugga because he was a known figure for well over a decade of YouTube.

This is why #WeAreWithChuggaaconroy was trending at one point, and likely the reason why it took Masae and so many others such a long time to speak out, until now.

Masae opened the door, and now multiplie accounts of Chugga’s negative behavior are being released. I’ve been subscribed to Chugga for 15 years, but now I see how much fame changed the man. As someone who subscribed to Emile’s channel because of his positivity and passion towards a topic I was interested in, as someone who tried games merely based on his recommendations, and as someone who has Emile to thank for my current interests - I am unsubscribing from Chuggaaconroy, and I implore you to do the same.

Stand with the victims.

I've never really made a proper post before, just shitposts and the occasional art thing. I want to make one to properly express how I feel right now and why this song represents it perfectly. I will warn you first, however, that this mentions a certain YouTuber who was recently completely destroyed on Twitter and my personal experience as a viewer, and may delve into some not-too-happy thoughts

It all starts way back when I was still a kid. I was navigating the wonderful site known as YouTube, trying to find videos on videogames and, specifically, I think it was Super Paper Mario. I had no idea how to beat Chapter 2-3 (the Ruby debt one), and I needed help. That's when I stumbled across a YouTuber called Chuggaaconroy (a.k.a. Emile). The way he provided all the information I needed in one video was exactly what I needed. I couldn't subscribe to his channel because I didn't have a Google account, so I just periodically checked his channel, eventually learning he uploaded every day at 5 PM, perfect for younger me. I'd watch his videos when they came out, loving every single one. I eventually discovered his collab channel, The Runaway Guys, and loved that channel even more. He, Proton Jon (Jon) and NintendoCapriSun (Tim) entertained me for YEARS with their content. I even branched out into Jon's streaming community, becoming a semi-regular artist on the booru for a time (you can still find my stuff there under the name TehSm1tty. Not my best work, but I still like some of it). Years come and go, and I have my fair share of mental health troubles, but I'd always find Emile, Jon, and Tim there to brighten my days.

Fast forward to sometime last week. I've been pretty inactive on Twitter aside from my alts, but I decided to see what was popping on main. I log in and get recommended a post with the hashtag "WeStandWithChugga". I had no idea what was going on, so I looked into it. I won't go into detail here, but the jist of it is that Emile was a total creep to many women and even drove wedges between himself and good friends because of this weird behavior. There's a lot more to this than just that, but the point is that it shattered my view of him. I knew he was pushy and that always kinda annoyed me, but the extent of it broke me. For a few days now, I've been having a rough go of it. I mean, my childhood YouTuber just got outed as a complete creep and has some serious allegations of being at least a lolicon, at worst a pedo. I've been down and out for days, and it just wouldn't stop. That is, until I found out that Tim has a Reddit account. I never knew this (or, well, maybe I did and just forgot. Idfk), and was amazed to learn that Tim's been keeping Reddit updated on what he's able/willing to share. Turns out Emile's getting the help he needs at a legit mental hospital and that he's ok. That's what made everything stop. Hearing he's ok. After all the shit Emile has done, he's still a human being and doesn't deserve to have the whole internet turn on him in a fraction of a second. Hearing a fellow human is ok made me feel better. I'm not letting him off the hook, and I do not believe he should ever be forgiven for what he's done, but if he is willing to better himself and become a better person, I am more than willing to believe in that Emile.

Now to come to roughly 40 minutes ago. I decide to boot up Satisfactory and play a bit, but I have no idea what to listen to while I do. I put on a song but quickly get bored of it, and then I see "OMORI | Do You Remember? | Extended" in my recommendations. I put it on and instantly, as if I were splashed in the face by water, I wake up and feel better. I was still stressed about everything going on (I'm set to go to college in September, AND my folks are headed to Mexico in about a week, so I'm stressed from those too), but with the first note on the piano, everything faded. All my swirling negative emotions were replaced with a somber peace. I'm still hurt by the last week's revelations, and I'm never going to truly recover (who could?), but I'm moving on. I think my comment on the video describes how I feel best; "The sad yet peaceful feeling this song evokes in me... It's pretty much how I feel today. I feel at peace... or, well, mostly. There's still pain, and there always will be, but I can move on and I'll live. In the future, I'll look back on this last week and feel sad, but that'll be in the future when this is all over with for good, so I can also look back at before it and be happy that those good times happened. Nothing will ever be the same, but such is the way of the world. Saying goodbye is saying hello to the future, and we all need to do that eventually. Who knows what the future may hold? I, for one, can't wait to see. Hello future, and goodbye sadness".

Chuggaaconroy was an inspiration and a light in the sea of darkness for so, so many, and these revelations have snuffed the light he provided out. What I hope is that Emile takes a long, long break from the internet to become the person we all believed him to be, to truly become that bright light in the dark, rather than just another dark figure holding a flashlight. I don't hope for that as a supporter of him as I don't support who he is right now (as if I haven't said it enough), I hope for that as a fellow human who only wishes to see everyone become the best version of themself.

I think this post was exactly what I needed. I've finally gotten everything out in a cohesive (maybe?) and healthy manner, and I'm ready to become my best self. I will be beginning work on YouTube videos tomorrow, and will hopefully be posting Thursdays at 5 PM (in honor of DatPags whom has not uploaded in a long time).

To anyone who finished reading this post, thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Please, go become your best self, but do not do so by putting others down. Better yourself and acknowledge your flaws, overcome them, and do not repeat Emile's mistakes. Learn from those around you.

Guess who's back home from the West Coast!

The biggest highlight of my PAX West weekend was stopping by Thrown Controllers. I'm so grateful that I was able to make it out to the show and was so happy to have been called up as a contestant again! 💖

I also had a huge fangirl moment when Chuggaa told me he had watched my Cosplaying with Chronic Illness video. It's so surreal to have someone you look up to acknowledge your work. I'm so happy I was able to make the trip out to Seattle this year!

If RGBV watched the Runaway Guys' playthrough of Four Sword Adventures, what would they have to say about their respective players? (Servo+, feeling recursive)

Vio wishes Jon were playing him, since he relates to the dry sarcastic exasperation, but he'll accept Stephen since it's not Emile.

Blue, on the other hand, is very fine with being played by Jon.

Green likes Tim as a person, but not necessarily as a player. He'd like to die a little less, maybe.

Red adores Emile and everything about him. He laughs so much! He tells so many jokes! He's in such a good mood about life! Sure he's not the most focused player but he's having fun! What more could Red ask for, really?

TRG peeps please help, I'm trying to find the source for [this audio] for Reasons. Clearly this is a dynamic text (or whatever this type of vid is called) edit, I've tried finding a tweet where they show the source but apparently there's a scroll limit and it won't let me access anything older than September 2022, and searching variants of "emile no trg" give me some good funny moments but not This funny moment. Blease I want to reference this in a writing thing and I will feel like an Ass if I cannot credit where it came from properly ;o;

After many years of attending The Runaway Guys' Thrown Controllers panel, I was finally a contestant! I am so glad I was able to attend this year and also have a short story to tell you all. 💙

So, my husband always comes to the panel with me and gives me his card since he doesn't want to go up on stage. This year, he got the number 123 card, which is a pretty sick number ngl.

I was the third contestant called up to play. I didn't get past the first round sadly, but I was so grateful to have been a part of Thrown Controllers. This is the panel I look forward to the most, so it was such an awesome moment for me!

When I got back to my seat after my turn was over a man walked over and tapped me on the shoulder. He showed me his cell phone screen, and on it was a question for me.

"Will you trade your card for 20 bucks?"

I wasn't going to go up a second time even if 119 was picked, so it was an easy decision for me. I traded him my card for 20 dollars and the panel continued on.

It was a normal enough experience until around 30 minutes before the end of Thrown Controllers. 119 had not been picked yet, and when 118 was called and a Jar Jar cosplayer came up to take his turn I thought it was all over.

But no, as fate would have it, the number 119 was called. It was called as the very next number, in fact. I was actually cracking up with my friends who saw the card for 20 dollar trade as it happened.

When the man who bought my card went up for his turn and continued to win round after round I felt like a Pokémon trainer who just caught a shiny Pokémon with perfect IVs in every stat. He went on to win Thrown Controllers, which put a huge smile on my face since I played a part.

Thrown Controllers ended with me feeling on top of the world. The person who used my card ended up winning it all, and I walked out 20 dollars richer. I was on cloud nine while waiting to talk with Chuggaaconroy and ProtonJon after the show.

I talked with Chugga first and told him what had happened. He told me he used a randomizer so it was purely luck that the number 119 was chosen after 118 was called. He said that Jon would get a kick out of the story, so I should tell him next.

When I told ProtonJon about everything he said, "Wait, I have something to show you." Apparently Slowbeef, the man who bought card number 119 from me, had left a DVD behind the curtain sometime during the panel.

ProtonJon then pulled the DVD out from his bag and showed me the note that Slowbeef had left inside of it. "Pick 119! - Beef (JK love ya bud)."

I started laughing way too hard and seriously thought I was in a fever dream at this point. I felt like the stars aligned today, and I was able to be a part of something big. This has been the best MAGFest ever.
