Since Red, White and Royal Blue is everywhere and the first time I read it was when I was deep in the Roswell, New Mexico fandom, the vague Malex RW&RB AU that spawned in my brain back then has reared it’s head again and wants to be shared.

I won’t turn it into a full fic, I know myself, that won’t happen, but I’d like to share my headcanons and I might write some scenes or snippets.

The obvious choice would be making Alex, Alex, but in my head Alex Manes makes more sense as Prince Henry.

I could probably make Harland Manes the King or the unnamed father of Jesse, but I think Jesse get's to be King in this AU even though that is a scary thought. But Jesse can't get the roll of Cathrine, he doesn't deserve it

Alex is the fourth son, so not even the spare, but the spare of the spare of the spare. Jesse despises him for being gay but I think in this version the physical abuse is a little more subtle, he is the king after all. Still an abusive asshole though.

Alex still became a soldier in the Royal Air Force and he still lost his leg.

Liz is the daughter of the head chef in the palace and good friends with Alex. He often takes her along with him on trips, when he can.

Maria geht’s to take over Pez’ role of rich, eccentric best friend

Maria and Liz are the only people outside the Royal family and certain members of the staff that know that Alex is gay

I kind of want to include Kyle in this whole thing somehow, but I haven’t figured out how yet

Michael isn’t actually the first son, but part of this AU’s Whitehouse trio.

The president is actually Ann Evans. (I want to keep the President a women, that's the only reason I picked Ann over Dave) So Max and Isobel are the first children.

So basically, the pod squad is the White House Trio

All three of them were still found as children and adopted (I kind of would like to keep them being aliens, but I don't know how to make that work, so I guess they are human)

Michael was adopted by Walt Sanders who is now the head of security in the White House. He and Michael live in the White House as well

The Evanses treat Michael as a third child by now and he's just as important and popular in the eyes of the public as Isobel and Max

So basically Michael is Nora in this, which fits very well imo

I'm gonna keep adding on to this headcanon and I'd love to get questions about it to inspire me to get deeper into it.

I was kind of plotting out a rwrb x aftg crossover in my head because, that’s how my brain works, and I was thinking, maybe Kevin gets invited to the Whitehouse Trio’s New Year’s party because he’s the beloved Prince of Exy and all that, and he brings Neil and Andrew along, and Neil would have no idea who Alex was (he probably doesn’t even know who’s president tbh), and Andrew would take one look at Alex and Henry and clock them immediately because he’s Andrew, etc., etc. But then I realized it wouldn’t work because the Secret Service team vetting the guests would never let Andrew OR Neil within 100 yards of the FSOTUS

“This is Special Agents König and Roach.” Gaz said from behind him, moving into his eyeline. “They’re on the President's detail but will occasionally watch you. And this is Special Agent Ghost.” Gaz gestured to skull man. “He’ll be watching you.” Ghost dragged his eyes over Johnny.

Soap is the adoptive son of President Price, but he’s hard to contain and a security risk. He’s never had a secret service agent last more than a few weeks. So, when Special Agent Ghost and his team are brought in to babysit, he thinks it’ll be another few weeks of fun.

But a traitor is lurking in the Whitehouse and while Ghost protects Soap from himself, Simon will need to protect Johnny from something far more insidious.

Readers Notes:

I read this one a while ago but I can remember how much it made me sit on the edge of my seat, the relationship felt a little fast paced but they still connected pretty well. I do recommend reading the tags for this one because the fic does contain triggering content.

Personally I am not part of this fandom to I can not tell you much about how this relates to canon (in character portrayals) but this fic was recommended by a friend and I very much enjoyed reading it.

The Republican Party's debt-ceiling hostage scheme has benefited from the support of the United States' largest corporate lobbying organization, which has given its stamp of approval to the GOP's push for major federal spending cuts, punitive new work requirements for aid programs, and permitting changes sought by the fossil fuel industry.

While House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-Calif.) office has reportedly not met with representatives of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce during the debt ceiling standoff, a representative of the powerful business group said earlier this week that such a meeting would be pointless given that the Chamber and the GOP are so closely aligned.

Neil Bradley, the Chamber's chief policy officer, told Politico earlier this week that a meeting with McCarthy would be a "cheerleading session."

"I see the relationship as respectful, so I'm not worried about wasting his time to come in and say, 'Look how much I agree with you,'" said Bradley, who previously served as McCarthy's deputy chief of staff.

In a letter to the Chamber's chief executive on Friday, a trio of Democratic senators led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) slammed Bradley's remarks and demanded to know "how the Chamber justifies supporting the Republican agenda of continued tax cuts for the wealthy, while cheerleading for threats to impose a default and austerity for everyone else."

"Instead of pressing the speaker to drop his radical demands and pass a clean debt limit increase, Bradley noted that the Chamber has pressed the White House to come to a bipartisan agreement with McCarthy," the letter reads. "Indeed, Bradley noted that the Chamber is aligned with House Republicans on their debt ceiling demands, including on spending caps, work requirements, and energy permitting."

Warren, joined by Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.), accused the Chamber of fully backing the GOP's "shameless hypocrisy" by lobbying for tax breaks that Republicans are expected to include in a tax cut package coming sometime next month.

"The American people deserve to understand why you are supporting even more deficit-busting tax giveaways for giant corporations, while also cheerleading Republican demands to inflict painful, job-killing austerity on everyone else in a pretense of 'fiscal responsibility,'" the senators wrote, demanding to know how much the Chamber has spent on tax-related lobbying this year and what discussions the group has had with Republicans on the House's tax-writing committee.

According to OpenSecrets, the Chamber has spent more than $19 million total on federal lobbying so far this year—the most of any organization. The Chamber says it has met with more than 150 Republican and Democratic lawmakers throughout the debt ceiling fight, which GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) publicly described as a hostage situation.

The Democratic senators' letter came as Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that the federal government will run out of money to meet its obligations by June 5 if Congress does not raise the debt ceiling.

The Washington Post reported Friday that White House and GOP negotiators are "closing in on an agreement that would raise the debt ceiling by two years—a key priority of the Biden administration—while also essentially freezing government spending on domestic programs and slightly increasing funding for the military and veterans affairs."

When accounting for inflation, keeping non-military spending flat would mean potentially significant real-term cuts to key aid programs, from nutrition assistance to housing.

The Chamber has openly endorsed the GOP push for spending caps and warned President Joe Biden against using his 14th Amendment authority to unilaterally prevent a default, claiming such a move would be "as economically calamitous as a default."

On Friday, a top Treasury Department official said the White House will not invoke its 14th Amendment authority to continue paying the nation's bills if talks with the GOP collapse.

Nine years ago I posted this… More or less to the day seven years ago, in 2006. The iDEALFESTIVAL was burried through a beautiful KREV ceremony. Mike Harding of Touch were the master of ceremony. We made four editions of the festival and invited some of the greatest experimental music artists. Artists we loved. Happy Birthday Scottish musician Chas McDevitt.

Along with Lonnie Donegan, Chas McDevitt was one of the only original British skiffle acts worldwide success. Like Donegan, McDevitt ‘s parents took the family south and settled in Surrey when he was just a child.

Charles James McDevitt was born on 4th December 1934 in Eaglesham, Glasgow, as a teenager he suffered a long illness and during this time developed a liking for American Blues and Jazz. He taught himself to play the banjo and later joined a local college jazz band called The High Curley Stompers. In 1955 McDevitt moved to London and played with the Crane River Jazz Band. Fellow band members included Ken Colyer, Sonny Morris and Marc Sharratt.

Keen to progress he also busked and performed in a skiffle group with blues singer Redd Sullivan (The Thameside Four). Quickly they established themselves as coffee bar favourites and appeared regularly at the 2Is Coffee Bar and other Soho Jazz Clubs. Chas McDevitt became a featured artist at the Cy Laurie Jazz Club and during the intervals as a trio with Marc Sharratt still (washboard) and Pete Timlett (piano) later joined by guitarists Dennis Carter and Alex Whitehouse. In 1956, Oriole Records recorded a demo the group’s version of Elizabeth Cotton’s “Freight Train” (composed by Paul James and Fred Williams).

The group regularly played "Freight Train" as part of their live set and featured it in a talent contest promoted by Pye Records on Radio Luxembourg. Bill Varley, their new manager suggested they recruit a female vocalist to help them stand out from other skiffle groups and they asked a Scottish folk singer called Nancy Whiskey, who took her stage name from a well-known folk song, to join them. They re-recorded Freight Train with Nancy as lead vocalist and when the single was released in 1957 it reached number 5 in the UK Singles Chart. Riding high on chart success the group toured Europe and America featuring on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Chas McDevitt Skiffle Band had a second lesser hit with `Greenback Dollar' on which Nancy was again vocalist.

The group made guest appearances in a couple of movies including The Tommy Steele Story (Rock around the world)and The Golden Disk. When Nancy left the band at the height of their fame, she was replaced by Irish singer, Shirley Douglas , who later married McDevitt. Dennis Carter and Alex Whitehouse also left the group to form a rival group, i.e. The Oldtimers Skiffle Group.

New members came and went, but once the skiffle phase had passed the The Chas McDevitt Skiffle Group broke up in 1959. They did reform briefly in the 80s for festival performances. Since then, McDevitt has continued to perform as the leader of a re-formed group, and also remains active in charitable work, including through his membership of the showbusiness charity the Grand Order of Water Rats.
