I’m 5 years older than my younger brother. Tonight he called me because he and his girlfriend had their first fight and he was asking me for advice on how to find a therapist because his insecurity lead to the fight.

And I’m just sitting on my couch in another country with my feet in my spouses lap and my cat on mine, trying to figure out how to tell him that relationships can be hard and they take work.

So I ended up on the phone with him for an hour talking him through finding a therapist that takes his insurance and how he needs to use his words when he’s feeling this way instead of letting it build up.

And all I can picture is this time when he was 5 and I used my baby sitting money to buy us ice cream because someone was mean to him at kindergarten and he looked at me like I was the best older sibling in the world (which I am, sorry to our middle sister but it’s me, I’m the best) and how it’s been over 20 years since that day, but all I want to do is buy him ice cream and make it better.

also google isn’t helping me but I’m pretty sure they filmed the bookshop fire in waterloo for season 1 as in early 2018 I was at a pub with a bunch of actors, somebody ran in yelling ‘DAVID TENNANT IS OUTSIDE FILMING WITH FIRE ENGINES’ and the actors all went to go see but I can’t confirm it!!! but the whole set up of the streets and set is very waterloo so maybe they found that location first and built set around it?

When I say I don’t know what’s real, or that I struggle with memory, I sometimes really struggle to articulate how or why. As an example, I had a dream last night in which I fucked up a whole bunch of shit real bad, so in the dream I was super ashamed. I woke up from the dream because in it I needed to check train schedules and someone was waiting for me to answer them so it was urgent. That pressure was so vivid that it literally woke me up and I picked up my phone to do it, but had forgotten exactly what I needed my phone for in the disorientation of waking up. So I spent 10 minutes trying to remember what I needed my phone for before remembering that I was trying to check for a ~2 hour train journey between two cities on entirely different continents, and only then did I realize that I had dreamed it up. Even now 4+ hours later the sense of shame from the dream was so vivid that it’s hindering my ability to function. Things like this, dreams replacing memories and inventing new ones, is really really common for me.

Visiting a really tiny village on the coast and I am approached by a delightful old man/local historian/fisherman/probably also the mayor idk. He points out the interesting geography and the village’s sailing history, the old pilchard farm, a cave and a loo from the 1800’s.

“Course, back then you’d have to climb all the way down that there cliff just to use the privy.”

Naturally I had to ask. “Can you still get to it?”

And this old man - who’s name I never learnt btw - leads me to a sheer drop over a cliff down into the ocean. He points out the tiniest outcroppings ever and I climb down and I am now standing in an old 1800’s toilet where if you fell you’d die and there is a tiny hole in the rock and moss and oh yeah the ocean at high tide.

“Rather draughty in here!”

And from somewhere above me on the cliff I hear, “Oh yes, indoor plumbing is a wonderful thing, ain’t it?”

“Absolutely! By the way, how did people climb out?”

“Hello?”

“Hello?”

"A story doesn't need a theme in order to be good" I'm only saying this once but a theme isn't some secret coded message an author weaves into a piece so that your English teacher can talk about Death or Family. A theme is a summary of an idea in the work. If the story is "Susan went grocery shopping and saw a weird bird" then it might have themes like 'birds don't belong in grocery stores' or 'nature is interesting and worth paying attention to' or 'small things can be worth hearing about.' Those could be the themes of the work. It doesn't matter if the author intended them or not, because reading is collaborative and the text gets its meaning from the reader (this is what "death of the author" means).

Every work has themes in it, and not just the ones your teachers made you read in high school. Stories that are bad or clearly not intended to have deep messages still have themes. It is inherent in being a story. All stories have themes, even if those themes are shallow, because stories are sentences connected together for the purpose of expressing ideas, and ideas are all that themes are.

Right now it's a victim of DNS (Domain Name Service) spoofing. This means that a malicious party is trying to steal traffic from FFn by purchasing a very similar domain.

Correction:

The new "fake" site that people are seeing still belongs to FanFiction.net—they just misconfigured their servers and are not redirecting traffic from the bare fanfiction.net to the main site at www.fanfiction.net. There is likely no malicious agent. Didn't mean to scare anyone! Just wanted to let people know the site wasn't deleted!

So if you want to read fanfiction and not see leaves, you have have to type out "www.fanfiction.net".
