I was going through some posts I missed and came across the “tatsumi is mature but still does 19 year old things” and I just wanna say I’ve never been able to put it into words when my friends ask but like. That’s exactly what I love about this game.
We’ve got scandals and drama and weird crypto currencies and convoluted backstories of implied murder or identity theft or military shit or relations to underground gang activity or so SO much more and yet the writers still succeed in reminding you that this is a game full of high schoolers.
Natume was one of the five oddballs and suffered through so much during the war where it affects him to this day, but he also refers to his tech savvy and love of the occult as magic and loves the junior he “adopted” to death. Despite Aira struggling against every odd to become a real idol he still buys merch and looks on the internet to look for content of the ones he likes. Rinne was destined to become the monarch of his homeland but ran away in an attempt to find happiness and acceptance and is an amazing strategist who uses it to take down corruption, but his sense of humor is entirely made up of sex jokes and romantic teasing like Aira being “hiiro’s little girlfriend”. The amount of characters that assign themselves the mom friend role just because. Trickstar. I don’t think I need to explain Trickstar-
Like this game has made me cry so many times and it has its ridiculous moments but it also has its genuine ones while also being the most teenage shit I’ve seen in my life and I feel like so few media can balance those and still have a decent story like that. Sorry for the long ass post I just have so many feelings about this kind of stuff 😭
YEAH this is exactly what i was talking about in a previous ask when i said i have nothing meaningful to add to the enstars cast that isnt a headcanon . its all very well thought out and the interpersonal relationships are nuanced enough to feel realistic but outlandish enough to be interesting .
worldbuilding and character design is one of my special interests and i say this any chance i can get: the most important part of building a character (and a story in general) is realizing the importance of comedic irony and comedy as a whole regardless of genre or tone. it makes characters feel more 3 dimensional and relatable because people arent stagnant and theres multiple facets to any individuals personality (this is also why some of the most popular animes of all time have filler episodes or funny bits that show the characters personalities, every event hits with 3x emotional impact the more you know about the characters as people but that's a different discussion) enstars does a really good job of this . like for example if wataru were to have had a realistic reaction to eichi starting the war it wouldnt be nearly as good of a story. the fact that eichis ridiculous ass backwards plan to get wataru to fall in love with him actually worked is a perfect example of comedy used to make a story more interesting. another thing similar to this is how sometimes its better to not detail something and let characters do things for a mundane reason or even no reason at all . for example subaru hating chiaki just because he annoys him, or shinobu being on the broadcasting team despite his character not being associated with technology otherwise and therefore having no real backstory on why he likes radio stuff. its all really well planned worldbuilding with an insane amount of subtle details , which is why enstars is one of my favorite stories to analyze . the only thing i could possibly want more out of it is hardcore tragedy but thats entirely a personal preference rather than a critique because im a slut for catharsis and i love sad endings , especially ones where characters die . (don't worry im in therapy)

somehow @darkfinch your undercover eliot au made my brain jump a couple of beats and now im like. fast and the furious au aka we drop the leverage crew into what camp looks like if designed for straight men. (characters and the relationships from the saga dont perfectly align, but! they serve as a reference. and sorry im ot3 obsessed so this touches on that even tho your au finch doesnt mention ships.)
eliot is not a narc but instead moreau's top dog in what is a very dynamic criminal enterprise. moreau wants to expand his operation from los angeles to the bay area, and has sent his lieutenant to look into the competition and what business prospects look like. he aims him at one of the major players' known fronts, a bar named mcrorys owned by a guy named nate ford. eliot will have to send updates to chapman, who will be put in charge of the expansion because even though eliot is higher ranked and trusted enough to give moreau the clearest analysis of the bay's situation, moreau wants eliot close and secure and his, so! eliot has to lay the groundwork for fucking chapman.
at mcrorys, eliot orders a burger like a NORMAL FUCKING PERSON and its god fucking awful, and he complains at his server, a handsome af chatty dude who is curious about this beauty bruiser of a man who showed up in a suped up challenger. hardison flirts teases that if eliot thinks he could do better, hardison was gonna talk a break for a late lunch and wouldnt mind being fed well for once. eliot takes him up on the challenge and goes to the back where parker (the gorgeous, the fuck is everyone a model around here cook who is also the bartender) is moping because the big boss has her and hardison to cover the pub during slow hours to "keep them humble." she's suspicious of eliot but! eats the food he makes for her too. its soooo good and ugh, why doesn't nate hire real cooks instead of having them there. at this, eliot is like... oh shit you know ford? i had business with him, parts to sell.
and thus, eliot inadvertently gets his "in" with nates crew.
from this meet-cute, plot unravels and eliot learns the inner workings of the crew's leadership as he picks up hours at mcrorys as a cook.
what he reports back to moreau (via fucking chapman) is this: nate is head of the crew, but after losing his kid to crossfire gone wrong, he drinks too much to drive even a hot wheel. hes the planner and the numbers guy, but the face/driver of the organization for the past few years is now parker. shes the best driver the bay may have ever seen and her name is whispered like the demigod we know she is, even by their rivals. she is very suspicious of eliot not for any particular reason, but because shes protective of her family and how easy this stranger fits in worries her (they are just... so alike and she knows how hard it was for her to join in, why is it so easy for eliot).
her boyfriend hardison, however, is so trusting (too trusting) and even if at first he and eliot play at irritation (or feel it, actually) theres a quick friendship budding that further rubs parker the wrong way. hardison is too important to let drive because he is the man behind the tech and motors of their operation: he just knows how to make a car purr before pouncing on the nitro.
he works closely with sophie, nates... wife? girlfriend? years long eye fuck partner? eliot also doesnt quite know what to name her role because she's a chameleon. she has got an eye for aesthetics so she gives hardison instructions for car detailing, but also she does orders and somehow gets huge discounts, but then she turns around and sells at a huge profit. she also races and she's goooood.
as eliot establishes himself into the crew, and as (against parker's suggestion) he joins their thievery, what eliot reports back becomes this: nates crew may be pulling a lot of attention because of their success in the races and because they do their elaborate heists... they really arent moreaus competition. they dont push drugs or sex work or guns. they are big time for their field of car shit but small time for everything else. theres the triads you really have to worry about. and the cops out here are dirty: the commissioner blackpoole, in particular, is an asshole. this crew doesnt even kill anyone wtf. they are basically a bunch of conmen and grifters. not serious players.
chapman accuses eliot of "going native." eliot tells him to go fuck himself. moreau decides to trust eliots judgment.
plot plot plot and also racing and also eliot earning the trust and companionship of everyone, even parker. but basically, moreau eventually sends some people in (including chapman) to start interfering with shit, once eliot reports on a score against the triads nates crew is looking into thst is very very tempting indeed. eliot finds out and realizes this big heist (big enough to require nate on scene) is going to go really fucking bad with the interference. so he tells hardison, the only one of the main crew left behind to coordinate shit and... god, hardison is crushed but they have his family to save.
eliot's warning and hardison's assistance means the difference between life and death for nate, sophie, parker, and the few others they got helping them (quinn? peggy? hurley? and do harry and bre make an appearance somewhere? idk). particularly nate eliot saves, because chapman and two guys had cornered nate and was gonna shoot but eliot kills them first.
and here... now everyone knows what eliot is and who. and... nate yells at him and hardison (now) cam be pissed and sophie knew he was lying but not Like This and parker... parker (who tore her ACL but could have fucking lost a leg) is the softest with him, and each person's reaction just tears eliot apart. but yet. but yet they offer him a place. a refuge. but he's moreau's man. a loyal dog. and moreau is already recalling eliot, saying they need to regroup after this unfortunate (but acceptable) loss and try again later. and what eliot doesnt report to them is that if he doesnt go back, moreau will send everyone in after him. (its safer, better... this way. this family was never his.)
and so they let him go. they have to. and eliot cant even look at hardison and parker, who he... they... had something. they did. or could have had something. maybe. at the end. but... he leaves. he has to. for them, and for nate and sophie, and for the whole crew.
and well, nates crew was small time before, yes, in comparison to moreaus operation. but as the screen fades to black, they look at each other and go yeah, apparently, we gotta go big because we have an eliot to steal (back).

Welcome back to observations with your favorite Kamski obsessed roleplayer. Last time, we talked about the actual location of Elijah's villa (boy was that a pain to dig back up too), the exact location of it on Belle Island. Today, it's time to discuss inside.
So, credit where credit is due, I want to thank @nock-and-bolt for their post about it that caused me to dig myself because, wow. I actually bought the game on PC and paid for the freecam (from otis_inf on Patr.eon) to dig because I am absolutely desperate. Hope you enjoy!
For my research purposes, I will be focusing on the parts of the rooms you don’t get to see normally, since the pool room and waiting room are explored enough in game... As well as a bunch of other things, wow this post got long LOL woops.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, so, first off, I have said this before and I will say it again. This place is UGLY. But, I don’t get modern design, so we will move on from that. Second, the place is literally aesthetic only, I swear to you. There are at least 20+ different chairs/couches that you can see just in the main parts of the house. There’s no reason to have that much sitting space unless you either host people a lot, which I highly doubt he does, or its for design and nothing else. It doesn’t even include what we can’t see on the other side of the house, its just the rooms we CAN see.
Its not a place you live, this is like a museum. Or office or some showroom.
Tumblr media
The left side (facing the building) is the only part that I believe is the living space and it seems to be very small. But, knowing that Kamski has an appreciation for Japanese culture, and that I personally believe he’s absolutely a minimalist, this would make sense. He doesn’t need more than this small corner of the house for the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.
Tumblr media
Roughly this size which, like I said, is probably enough for him. It would be the size of basically a studio apartment except more utilized because the living room and dining room are the other side of the house.
But, moving on from the outside. Now, nock-and-bolt showed us what was behind the door that Chloe walks through in the pool room, but what I am curious about now is the farthest right door in the waiting area.
Tumblr media
I think I remember seeing concept art that made it out to be what looked like it could have been a room, there was a bookshelf behind the door. I always assumed it was a home office or something, and its what I personally have worked with in my headcanons. But, nope. Thats actually wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its just another hallway into this main living room. Which makes sense, sort of, if the kitchen and other things are on the other side of the waiting area. So you don’t always have to walk through the pool room to get to the other side of the house. But, whats super neat, that I love about this, is the stuff on the shelf here. Its just a few things but boy are they interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A floral vase and a couple weird, modern art pieces. I really don’t like Elijah’s style, I can’t stress that enough here, but its again clear how much of a minimalist he is. But, there is also one more thing:
Tumblr media
What looks like some sort of Greek inspired vase the highest on the shelves. I did a bit of research to figure out what its supposed to be and what I could find seems to be referring to a nostos, which is “is a theme used in Ancient Greek literature, which includes an epic hero returning home by sea.” Which I only found from reading about Odysseus who was most known for his own nostos that took his 10 “eventful” years after the decade long trojan war, the subject of the Odyssey, one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer.
Crucial themes in the poem include the ideas of nostos (νόστος; "return"), wandering, xenia (ξενία; "guest-friendship"), testing, and omens. Scholars still reflect on the narrative significance of certain groups in the poem, such as women and slaves, who have a more prominent role in the epic than in many other works of ancient literature. This focus is especially remarkable when considered beside the Iliad, which centres the exploits of soldiers and kings during the Trojan War.
I am pretty sure the symbolism in the game is pretty obvious by this point, but this is just interesting because the vase is not something anyone would EVER see in the game. Its behind a door you can’t open, that never opens, and tucked away in the corner you would never see. But, it is still important for Elijah Kamski as a character. Assumed trials and tribulations, as well as the 10 year gap? Its just too coincidental. But, thats a whole other story honestly, and I don’t really know the most about Greek Mythos to be talking about it right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some other small things from this weird house that I thought were interesting. Just textures really, but detail. The marks on the cellos may be my favorite because it means they’re being used. Probably played in that chair sitting beside them.
Tumblr media
ALSO THIS? Theres one chair that isn’t pushed in equal with the others. ONE. Its literally like an inch out further than the other 7 chairs. Someone was sitting there recently.
Tumblr media
Now, these are interesting. because they--
Tumblr media
--are literal tubes. I’m assuming these are for the androids. Maybe where they go when they aren’t in use or doing something. Or just. Charging? Stations? I don’t know, it could literally be a spawn point for them, but I think they are purposely placed and its interesting to me that they are placed like pedestals in front of the tv. Like he just likes to look at them standing there. Like a weirdo.
Tumblr media
Now we have this door. This door that I thought went somewhere because I didn’t notice it from the outside before but. Nope. It just goes outside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I watched a video recently that was someone looking at $40 million NYC apartments and I realize what this door must be. Its the only way to get fresh air in this bitch. None of the other windows are made to be opened, anywhere in this villa. So, there has to be one. Its just weird to me that its at the far end overlooking the pier.
Tumblr media
I just have a love hate relationship with this place. Its aesthetic, but the aesthetic is modern and weird. This place, what we can see of it, is not a living space. This is an office. What you show off to show how much money you have. I’m curious what this place looks like during the Kamski ending. All dark even though I think all these lights he has on are NEVER turned off. We shall see...
Tumblr media
Also when Chloe goes to talk to Elijah she stands at this door and doesn’t move until shes ready again. He’s spawned in the pool by this point. Sure, when she goes to open the door again, she appears a few steps back so she can walk up to it, but my heart wants to believe she was told to just stand there and make them wait LOL.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was also a very human reaction from Chloe when Connor appeared to be standing in her way. I had stepped in so Kamski would start swimming and went behind the door to see where Chloe got the robe from (im sure she just pops it out of thin air because its just floating under the house) but she didn’t force him to step aside for some reason, like she has done before. She just... Waited there behind him.  She reached behind her head, rubbed at her neck, motioned like she was impatient like... “God is this guy really going to just stand there and play with a quarter or is he going to move?” She even tapped her hand a couple times against her thigh. It was.... Strange to see.
Tumblr media
In conclusion... Is there a conclusion? This is just a collection of things I discovered. If I find something else interesting, I will share. For now, thats all. uwu I went overboard and this is really long but.... I don’t call myself obsessed for nothing........

How did you draft SNAP? I've just gotten to the drafting stage of my comic with my brother but idk if theres some certain way to do it.
it’s taken a bit for me to organize my thoughts on this but I have an answer now, and you might not like it: there IS no some certain way to do it! I’ve been working with comics (and poking into the professional field, too O.O) for a few years now, so I do have some general advice for you-
read comics. really. can’t make a comic if you don’t know what a comic is, and since comics are a very specific medium of sequential visual storytelling, all the elements that make it a comic aren’t easily learned through other mediums. page layout, art style communicating tone, character design, story beats, etc. Scott McCloud has some wonderful books on comics, the Hellboy series is genuinely masterful, and honestly you could reread IDW and call it research. i go back and study my favorite webcomics to try and absorb their excellence: TPOH by @modmad is stunning, @avasdemon is gorgeous, and there’s endless more to browse over at @webcomiclibrary
know your story. this is covered by a Whole Heckin Lot of different places, resources, and writers, so I’ll encourage you to go look at comprehensive help if you need plot assistance. keep in mind that everyone drafts differently! you might need everything plotted out, or you could fly by the seat of your pants. physical writing, digital notetaking, verbal processing, all of it is fine as long as it works for you
THUMBNAIL for goodness sake thumbnail before you dedicate to a page. in fact, make practice versions of everything important. mess with character designs until you’re Absolutely Sure you will be alright with drawing them a bajillion times over and over. but specifically, thumbnails are tiny, rough page layouts. tiny so that you don’t get into any details and you can see how easily the page reads even when small, and rough so you aren’t committing and can keep fiddling. even with pages you’ve had in your head forever, a quick simple thumbnail can help smooth the transition from head to page
there’s other, post-drafting things to consider, like formatting and file size and update schedule and getting it out there, but that’s a whole seminar and I’d like to keep this relatively simple
for me, drafting SNAP was an adventure in taking the puzzle pieces my brain seemed to automatically generate (thank you, MADD) and fitting them together in something resembling order. almost all of the plot and twists presented themselves to me with very little work! arranging them however was a hassle. my episode-by-episode breakdown is uh. a mess. because my drafting process is a stream of consciousness solid block of text. here:
01- Welcome to the Academy! An Upgrade to Primes Orion oh no im late trope, monologue about situation, bumps into megs at front gate as creators are saying goodbye, drags orion inside as excuse to ditch them, cut to trine being weirdos at landing pad, screamers making plans to be awesome but whomp whos that chick its windblade and she can fly in root mode, grr immediate one sided rivalry [... this goes on for awhile]
no punctuation, no capitalization, just wordvomit. not every episode has such specific notes, some just say a general plot hook and some character reactions! this first episode however was daydreamed out until I had a pretty solid series of events
I’m early in thumbnailing right now. wish I was further along, actually I wish I simply had SNAP finished so I could read it myself *sob* BUT. it’s chugging along. my thumbnailing setup is a simple grid I scribble over with new layers for every six pages:
Tumblr media
last one is blank because I’m in the habit of arranging pages by side-by-side pairs for printing, since that’s been the usual consideration for the comics I worked on before. you can see how messy these are! and they’re by no means final, either, I think I’m going to have to cut down on some pages once I finish thumbnailing this episode. one thing I have kept in mind for SNAP specifically is anime tropes that I can rip off, hence that fifth page being mostly taken up by Orion running to school with toast in his mouth lol
anyway this got long and I am hardly an expert, still workin on my own comic, but I hope this helps! anyone with more resources, tips and tricks, or advice feel free to chime in too, I’m hardly the entirety of comic knowledge

hehe, so since im in a video game mood rn and thinking a lot about old video games/video games i love, if you were to ask me “hey ruby!!! what games/sequels/trilogies would you like to see remade???” well, here’s which ones i think should get remade: (this’ll be a pretty long post, so you can just click the link down below if ya want to read the whole thing)
Tumblr media
out of any old final fantasy game that should get a remake like the final fantasy 7 remake, if i had to choose one, it would have to be final fantasy 6. that’s just one of my favorite final fantasy games (right up there with final fantasy 7, that is), and like. final fantasy 6 is kind of the perfect bridging gateway game between the fantasy/medieval/middle earth early final fantasy games (from 1-5) to the futuristic/modern/grounded to earth final fantasy games (7, 8, 10, 13 & 15), so like. realistically??? final fantasy 6 is probably one of the only few games i think should get a final fantasy 7 remake-esque remake, and it is one that i think can work in that realistic style compared to something like. final fantasy 9 or final fantasy 4, ngl
super mario rpg, obviously, id love to see that game get a remake. maybe with like, a lot more characters (luigi & wario would work perfectly in there), any content they had to cut out, maybe add more to the game that we didn’t even think of that could work (like, not just story padding, maybe stuff like the koopalings, daisy, wart from mario 2). idk, id just like a super mario rpg remake done in a similar style to the link’s awakening switch remake
despite how important these games are to mario’s history as they are the first original handheld mario platformers, as well as introducing wario, another important mario character, it’s kinda weird how nintendo hasn’t really paid much attention to the super mario land trilogy, or even the wario land series. and while i think a new wario land game will certainly get everybody (myself included) very excited, id also get excited if the original mario land series got an all stars-esque remake. heck, id get excited if all the wario land games got remade too in their own package (like, the mario land trilogy will just have mario land 1, 2 & 3, while the wario land remakes can either start out with mario land 3, or virtual boy wario land, or even wario land 2)
i think the original paper mario trilogy of the 2000s should get their own remake/upscaled ports to the switch as well. stuff like paper mario 64 should obviously get remade from the ground up, while stuff like the thousand year door & super paper mario should get like. upscaled graphics, or even new content (like in the thousand year door, there should be a whole sidequest or extra campaign dedicated to luigi’s own journeys that he goes on at the same time as mario’s, i think thatd b pretty neat & funny)
if any megaman game were to get a remake, i think they should be like. the original zero storyline megaman x games. like, ya know, megaman x1-5. and while ik games like megaman x1-3 already get a lot of love, and megaman x5 doesnt really get as much hatred (i think??? i never finished that game), i think megaman x4 should get a lot more love. not only is it my favorite megaman x game, but like. it has a pretty good storyline, each character gets their own unique story, and like. i just like a lot about megaman x4, i really do, and im sad it commonly gets referred to as the worst megaman x game just because of its voice acting. it gets a lot of flack for its voice acting, and honestly, if the voice acting was just mediocre or average, then i really think a lot more people will appreciate this game. like, in my eyes, if megaman x1-5 got remakes in the cel-shaded rendered style of megaman 11 or dragon ball fighterz, then thatd b cool. id also b down to a new megaman x game too aoisdjfiaos
ok, so, kirby games!!!! ik stuff like kirbys adventure & kirby’s super star got remakes, and while they’re great, id love to see more kirby games get remakes!!! and i got two seperate candidates that’d work. and that first one will be a remake of the “dark matter” trilogy of kirby games. games like kirby’s dream land 2, kirby’s dream land 3, & kirby 64. i think these games are pretty important in the kirby series as not only are these the first instance of the deep lore seen in later kirby games (stuff like return to dream land, planet robobot, and star allies), but like. dream land 2 was the first game to introduce kirbys animal allies, which have become staples for a lot of the kirby games (dream land 3, wow, thats all i could really think of oasidjfio). so like, yea!!! thatd b pretty epic
another kirby “trilogy” id love to see get remade or even get remasters of onto switch would have to be the “return to dream land” games. games like kirby’s return to dream land and even the 3ds games that were built off of that: kirby’s triple deluxe & kirby’s planet robobot. i mean, these games are fairly recent, and stuff like return to dream land isn’t even 10 years old yet. but like, i think if these games got upscaled graphics/models & resolution, as well as a bunch of new/cut content, it can also work
oooooooooooooooooo boy, there are a lot of sonic games id love to see get remade considering i think about sonic alot. stuff like sonic 3 & knuckles getting the sonic 1, 2 & cd treatment (get upgraded ports to ios & android, a bunch of new content from sonic mania, etc), as well as said sonic 1 & 2 mobile ports get released to steam or other consoles. itd be cool to see shadow the hedgehog get an upgraded port to the switch for a low price. maybe even see sonic x-treme get completed. but if theres any sonic game id love to see get a full on, worked from the ground up remake, it’d have to be the sonic dreamcast trilogy. and by that, i mean sonic games that were worked off of the same dreamcast technology/engine. games like sonic adventure 1, 2 & sonic heroes. and like, not just stuff like the gamecube or steam ports. i mean, full on remakes with updated models, updated animations & cutscenes, updated rendering, updated voice acting, updated everything!!! with that, id love to see the chao garden get a full blown overhaul, with more deeper chao breeding, more games to play with your chao, more special, unique chaos & even stuff like chao bonuses to the main campaigns. and even somethign that’d be cooler would be like. either free updates or DLC that would add more campaigns to these games with new characters (like the babylon rogues, the classic characters, silver & blaze, etc), and like. i KNOW thats a lot to work on, but like, i think a lot of people would appreciate that. plus, i consider the sonic adventure games would be a perfect introduction to the sonic series, i think these games could get a lot more people hooked onto the series!!! new & old fans alike!!! but, thats just my thots, and this would be impossible realistically. id still want it 2 happen tho 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
while ik everyone wants that gen iv remake, may i recommend a??? gen v remake??? pokemon black & white are still one of my favorite pokemon games, they were very close to me growing up, and i. just have so much goddamn appreciation and love for this game!!!! i think its one of game freaks more underappreciated games, and ik there a ton of people that can agree with me on that!!! it was just such a different and unique experience, with such a deep story, really good and underappreciated and underloved pokemon designs, and just. i’d love it if we really got a gen 5 remake, especially seeing how much game freak has been putting a lot more gen 5 nostalgia in all of their recent products (from a ton of gen 5 pokemon appearing in detective pikachu, to gen v pokemon getting galarian forms in pokemon sword & shield, and even gen v pokemon appearing in a lot more spin offs lately). like. trust me, pokemon black and white isn’t really as bad as people made it off to be in 2011. it really is a modern masterpiece in video games, i really recommend checking it out and begging game freak to give it a remake about as much as yinz have been begging game freak to remake diamond & pearl
obviously mario 64, sunshine, & galaxy 1 & 2 should get full on remakes. yinz know i wanted one this whole year, and im very disappointed we got these barely upgraded ports to switch instead. thats it on that, i dont need to go into further detail
ummmmmmmmmm, yea, thats kinda it. i cant think of any other games id love to see get remade. ummmmmmmm let me know what u think about this list, and tell me whatever type of other games you’d love to see get remade!!!
thats it ruby out

hello, i dont know if this is something you answered before, but i was wondering, how do you choose which fonts go together in your graphics? do you have a specific idea in mind, or do you go through a couple before you decide what looks best together? they always look really beautiful
i think i have but i cant find it and i probably do things differently now. also this went off on a tangent about typography but theyre in the same vein SO.
i ABSOLUTELY flick through a few fonts before i pick one. i might have a vague idead that i want to use one bold and plain and one fancy but its 70% trial and error when it comes to actually physically putting them in the graphic
its about the VIBES
if what im editing has a more messy, artsy weathered vibe then i’ll choose a messy font. something handwritten or something that looks like paint maybe. example
for a more futuristic, minimalist vibe i’ll use something simple and non serif. example / example
you can use what comes to mind when you think of the subject matter too even if it isnt directly relevant. for example when i edit elektra i think greek > ancient greece > serif fonts
for spiderverse i think city > modern but with miles’ own art mixed in with it > both some bold no serif fonts and some more artistic, personalised fonts
for superman i think bright > bold > clear
you can also adapt those ideas to HOW you want to edit something too. for example usually when i think about editing jason i think of a messier graffiti kind of look because jason >  a little bit scrappy and fighty > messy BUT one day i wanted to try a different flatter vibe for a graphic so i went flatter graphics > minimalist > sans serif > modernised
neither nat or elektra have a particularly gothic vibe but i wanted to make one work so i used blackletter fonts
i think it helps to know the types of fonts that exist too so im gonna sound like a schoolteacher for a second here but stick with me
serif - basic wings on certain letters, weight varies in different sections of the letter. used for a more old fashioned, professional, elegant look. can make something seem fancy even if it isnt
sans serif - basic no frills letters, consistent weight for the entire letter. used to be readable and give a clean, modern, polished look
slab serif - again with the serif but like. BIGGER. can make a serif font seem more up to date and bolder. visually louder, makes stuff look important and can add more character than a basic serif
blackletter - gothic, old english kind of fonts. usually used for stuff that has Ye Olden in the title. capital letters usually have added embellishments and the characters in general will be very angular with a few decorative curves. i used to hate blackletter fonts because i could never make them work but i love em nowadays because they can give that kind of.... dark look to something. i see a blackletter font n i think big ol gothic mansions and the addams family which is indeed, a vibe
decorative - best for giving character imo. theyre unique and they can take parts from a lot of other font styles but also not conform to any. theyre heavily stylised and non traditional. letters can be backwards, smaller than others, some capitalised, some not. they make stuff playful and original. kind of personal too
script - joined cursive mostly. can be handwritten or glyphs. im not a huge fan of glyphed cursive because it looks very old fashioned without that being a deliberate choice but they can work sometimes. its another style that can make something seem artsy, elegant, “”””femenine””””
that was all very boring. class is over.
going off of the types of font though, mix it up!!! use the fanciest font you can find mixed in with a basic sans serif
some singular words will evoke a different, more important vibe than others, so to exaggerate that word and make it the focus of the graphic, use a more detailed, noticeable font for that and then something lower key for the rest of it. example / example
it can work the other way around too, with the simple font being the focus of the sentence and the script for example being the ‘add on’
the above is all something sizing can come into too
kerning is the space between each letter and i find that, particularly with sans serif fonts, changing the distance between each letter can change the whole font. so if something is like. OK but theres something missing, try kerning
the same goes for keeping all the letters on the same line vs having each as a different layer and moving them separately. this and this are both the same font but the second has each letter at a different level and a different size because i wanted it to look less formal and a bit more quirky and artsy, whereas in the first i wanted bold but plain
something i always say and the one thing i took away from actually formally studying design is type it how you’d say it. do you enunciate one word of the sentence more than the others? is it a formal word or is it something fun? what part of the word or the sentence do you stress? whats the hierarchy of the information you're trying to convey? typography put literally is visual storytelling and its always helped me to think of it like that because im not actually someone who’s very creative or artistic so i like 2 think of it like. logically instead

hi! i have a problem with drawing. right now i have artblock and yesterday i tried to draw something like 3 times, but i can't do anything. i try to somehow calm myself so that i don't get hysterical. and, of course, i tried to find something about it in internet, but i found nothing. why people don't talk about art struggles, mental struggles and emotional burnout? what to do if you can’t draw because you’ll get hysterical or anxious at the end of the process?
Hmm… I don’t really know your situation, I don’t know if it’s because you draw too much (for school/job), feel some social media pressure, or if it’s just this “I can’t draw for shit” stage that every artists seems to have from time to time.
The anxiety when you don’t produce art might be overwhelming. You draw and nothing comes out right. People post beutiful art every day and are successful with their zines, comics, books. They get featured, they’re hired, they are a part of big projects! And you can’t draw the pose right, it’s stiff and you know the lineart will look even worse. People won’t like it, you’re such a disappointment. It makes you want to scream. It’s a horrible feeling. I know that feeling. But… to quote the classic: “Let it go!” \(u-u)/
Take a deep breath. (´ο`)=3
My advice (I’m not sure if useful) would be to stop drawing for a week or so. Do something else, watch some new series, go for a walk, read books you haven’t read yet, try some games, definitely try something new. If you were in a particular fandom and created for it or drew inspiration from it - stop. You’ll feel itchy and will try to draw but don’t. And don’t feel guilty about it! You need to recharge, so instead of producing stuff try to comsume something new. Enjoy it.
Then try to draw but don’t expect anything. Find a few photos, very simple ones, of the sky, field, something not too complicated and study colours, try to draw with big shapes, blocks of colour, don’t expect it to look good, it’s just a study. It’s about reigniting the curiosity and pleasure of creating. When you try to draw something more complicated treat it as a study, a sketch, a stage. Draw something you’ve never drawn before, design a chair. Focus on the chair and not on the feeling you should be drawing something else and it’s just a waste of time, it isn’t. Draw a few thumbnails, you don’t like it, start a new one until your hand gets loose and you start to get some new ideas. If it’s getting too frustrating go for a walk, or dance to your favourite song.
(Also, go to people who inspire you, not those who make you feel shitty about your art. I’m not talking about negativity or toxic people. Some artists are the best human beings and they are very good at what they do but sometimes they make you feel not good enough. It’s not true, and it’s not their fault, but it happens. So sometimes it’s good to find someone who doesn’t overwhelm you with their detailed artworks, huge followers count, achievements etc.)
Allow yourself to make bad art. You won’t escape from it. All the art you see on the internet was chosen by artists for you to see. And there are tons of shitty drawings on their computers and in sketchbooks they chose not to show. Sometimes you open your canvas and this is your end result for the day:
Tumblr media
It’s fine!
And there’s one thing I suppose is very important if you want to fight art axiety. Don’t think about the drawings you made before, they’re done. Don’t think about the drawings you will do, you should do, or you want to do. Open the canvas, draw not thinking about the result, don’t expect it to be good or bad. To quote another classic: “Be in the moment.” Don’t be scared to ruin your drawing with the wrong line, try a different option and allow yourself to be surprised with the result. The result is bad, well, tough. What does it change, you won’t post it online? Who said you have to? Draw for yourself, not for other people, not for followers (don’t share your art with a big audience for some time, even if it’s good), not even your inner critic. Discover rather than force the outcome. When you draw a line don’t think about the final result, think about what that one line does for the drawing in that very moment.
And if you find yourself panicking about your art my ask box is always open, we can chat about art and exchange doubts. It’s all about not overthinking stuff because it doesn’t help.Wow, it’s a bit lengthy… xD Hope you find something that’s usefull. It’s based on my experience. I’m not saying that I got over it, I still stress over art and everything but I try to get better at calming my mind, and those things help me.

wattson x bloodhound tho
ive recently been struck by the adhd hyperfixation demon and now i cant stop thinking abt these two, either platonic or romantic
ok hear me out. i know. i know. hear me out. ive been working on this in between games so itll be a little all over the place probably but. bare with me
similarities: theyre both fairly respectful and friendly (blood more respectful, natalie more friendly), strategic, well known faces in the ring.
subtle but significant differences: while they are both polite and try their best to make sure their squad is safe and that they succeed, wattson is closer to the other legends than bloodhound is. bloodhound sees their relationships with the other legends as mostly professional, not growing close with anyone but not acting wholly cold or cruel towards any one specific person. wattson sees the other legends as her family. shes grown up with most of them. she’d do anything for them. she has a sort of ease around everyone that comes only from years of comfortable shared space. shes their little sister. bloodhound has that kind of relationship only with their raven (that we know of, anyway). even though they act comfortable to a degree, theres always a wall between them and everyone else.
what better person to bring them out of their shell a little than someone who makes friends with even the most unfriendly legends out there (im looking at you, caustic) ? someone who has a knack for disarming the roughest soldiers, someone who is exceptionally brilliant and able to best bloodhound (who has won 4 times in a row) in what was probably her debut. i mean, thats quite a way to get their attention.
if bloodhound did ever team up with her, theyd see all of these qualities of hers much more clearly. and even more clearly, just how different they are. shes surrounded by family, regardless of what squad shes on. bloodhound is more or less alone. wattson doesnt participate in the games for fame, fortune, glory, or testing her skills; she does it bc thats where the most important people in her life are. bloodhound? probably testing their skill. the only person we’ve seen them be close to is their raven.
i imagine since natalie defeated them rather effortlessly, theyd keep a close eye on her. she, too, would be thrilled that she defeated the infamous bloodhound, so popular their mask is sold as souvenirs. arguably the biggest threat on the field. i headcanon shes watched them a few times, while working on the ring, admiring their refined skill and their ability to stay calm and laser focused in the thick of battle.
ok thats enough for now i gotta go back to apex
edit: ok its the next day and i have time to finish what i was going to say with my last two paragraphs
back to the whole “what if they teamed up right after the season 2 trailer” when the roster for the next game arrives, bloodhound cant believe their luck. the legend who ended their winning streak is on their squad this time. theyve heard of her; the daughter of the games’ lead electrical engineer, shes the one who designed the ring. theyve seen her hovering around in between seasons, talking with some of the other legends. they didnt notice her all that much.
wattson, for her part, when she sees bloodhounds name next to her own in her squad, is both ecstatic and sheepish. she doesnt know how theyll respond, or if theyd hold a grudge against her. she doesnt think they would, as theyre always very fair and respectful with their team, whoever may be on it. but that doesnt completely calm her worries. on the other hand, she’ll finally get a chance to meet them for real. shes only ever seen them on the screen, in articles, and twice in the game (once in the airship, once when she took aim). she hasnt gotten a chance to talk to them, but shes dying to ask them all about their gear.
when they do meet up, wattson swallows her anxiety and, giving a brief yet polite greetings and introduction, dives into her curiosity. she (as gently as she can) bombards them with all sorts of inquiries, ranging from whether all that gear makes it difficult to move around in the arid climate, to specific details about their abilities, to what their ravens name is.
bloodhound is faintly bemused; they didnt expect this sort of reaction. they thought she would react like most other new legends do when they meet someone they previously defeated in the game (awkward. so awkward). after getting over their initial surprise, they chuckled lightly, interrupting her saying something about how many ravens they have. its one of the only times theyve laughed around other legends (even a small one).
wattson meekly apologizes, all at once realizing how overwhelmed they surely are from her questions. bloodhound finds themselves relaxing slightly after she takes it down a notch, occasionally answering a question or two, but more often than not remaining silent, not giving too many secrets away. and just like that, wattson befriends the intimidating legend of legends.
their poor third squadmate is left in the dust, their presence almost completely forgotten.

just finished rewatching toy story 1 thru 3 over the past few days, wanted to share my thoughts:
i love these movies a whole lot. the first 2 hold a bunch of nostalgia for me because i was A Baby when 2 came out and when i was also A Baby i would just watch our VHS copy of toy story 1 over and over again. this also makes me the exact age group to be emotionally destroyed by toy story 3, which came out just as i was entering high school and hit really close to home
individual thoughts:
toy story: the first thing i noticed was it still looks really nice even watching in 2019!! which i think is kind of spectacular for the first feature-length computer-animated film. it no doubt helps that the plot is mostly focused on little plastic dolls without realistic hair or clothing to animate but the semi-”cartoon” art direction means the human characters also look pretty nice without going too far into the uncanny valley.
also, the plot is WAY darker than i remember?? not because of sid and all the body horror toys, but because for like half of the movie woodys friends think hes an actual (toy) murderer carrying around the severed arm of his victim (!!) like, its hilarious, but also wow theres a LONG way to go between there and the climax of toy story 3.
the soundtrack is probably my favorite of the bunch. part of that is probably nostalgia but i just really like the consistency of having randy newman singing every song. it sort of elevates him to part of the story, like an omniscient narrator singing woodys (and later buzzs) inner monologue. 2 (and especially 3) didnt have as many musical numbers, which i can understand with a shift to a larger-scale approach to storytelling, but i really like the feeling it gives number 1. “you got a friend in me” is an obvious classic thats been remixed and brought back in just about every piece of toy story media im aware of, but “strange things” and “i will go sailing no more” deserve just as much recognition and praise. there just isnt a weak number among them
toy story 2: heres where the story started getting bigger and more existential, which basically becomes the new direction of the series. which makes sense! this one released 4 years after the first, and while theres no real timeskip in the story (maybe 6 months?) it had been a little while since we last saw woody and the gang. everybody in the real world had gotten older, and with the turn of the millennium approaching, the theme of impermanence loomed large in the collective unconscious. well, maybe not in my unconscious, because i was 2. but its really interesting as kind of a “time capsule” to what people were thinking about as the 90s came to a close.
so toy story 2 was a little more grounded, a little more focus on the human world, but it was also more fantastical in its presentation. the opening “video game” sequence (which still looks amazing!!) and woodys nightmare (”i dont wanna play with you anymore...”) show the animators at pixar really found their groove and started getting experimental. and to great result!! the fantasy sequences are a lot of fun and help 2 really stand out.
i would be remiss not to mention jessies flashback song here. its something else they hadnt really done in the first film and i think it really works. jessie in this film unfortunately doesnt get to do much other than fight with woody about whether he should stay or go (except for when she saves him in the end) but this song makes her character work. it also helps that it destroys me every time
also i think this is the movie that gave me an appreciation for the acting of kelsey grammer. i dont really agree with his politics (i also dont know specifically what they are) but he is a damn fine actor and gives the prospector a very genuinely intimidating edge after his heel turn. the casting really makes the character here, but thats nothing new for toy story-- every voice works. if i were the casting director, i probably wouldnt have pulled erudite kelsey grammer for a character named “stinky pete,” but as it is now i couldnt imagine him voiced by anyone else.
the last thing about toy story 2 is it feels like there were a lot more pop culture references? at least as far as i noticed. there are apparently even more than i noticed but i caught on to the “also sprach zarathustra” riff in the opening, and the jurassic park rearview mirror gag. and of course the extended star wars reference with zurg vs. utility belt buzz (and i guess zurg in general.) the references are cute and mostly unobtrusive but really i could take or leave them.
oh yeah also al is hilarious. just this rude, neurotic businessman whos incredibly self-important for the owner of a minor(?) toy store chain. hes such a puffed-up jerk, every time hes on-screen is a delight
toy story 3: this one kills me to death. i always get misty-eyed during “when somebody loved me” but the ending of 3 where andy introduces his toys to bonnie and plays with them one last time made me sob the first time i watched it. and it still does! thats the long game right there, thats the payoff of over 10 years loving these characters. its an emotional ketchup bomb, everything gets all messy and soggy and sweet. hopefully 4 can follow up, but im not really worried about that-- ive heard some good things. damn, its been 9 years since this movie came out, though! it really doesnt feel all that long, but i guess i havent been doing all that much
i actually dont know if i have much else to say about 3. the opening with the re-imagining of the previous films openings (woody versus one-eyed bart, buzz and woody vs. the evil dr. porkchop) is a highlight, although theres a conspicuous lack of bo peep. ive heard she has a big part in 4, but it was kind of weird to see a lot of toys missing and their absence (mostly) glossed over after the first few minutes. i miss r.c. and lenny, but i get they wanted to narrow down the cast so all of them could get in on the plot.
speaking of which, the escape scene is great too. its kind of a crystallizing moment of how close these characters are, and how well they work together. it reminds me a lot of the escape from sids house in the first movie, but there woody was working with sids body-horror toys and seemed to strike up a rapport with them bizarrely quickly. (speaking of which, i miss those toys! their designs were super cool, but i cant imagine they got much merchandise, especially babyface with the sharp, metal spider legs.) here, though, woody and the gang cooperate the best they ever have, and it really paints a picture of how close theyve become over the years, and justifies the emotional climax in the landfill. this is what i was talking about when i said i was surprised how dark toy story 1 got! these toys all hated woodys guts back then for what they thought he did to buzz. they kicked him out of a moving truck! its just weird to think about that conflict between them when you know how long they end up sticking together. but thats, like, neat, so its ok. it feels earned, its just kind of crazy in hindsight.
toy story 3 was also obviously made long after the first two-- by comparison, the lighting is way more sophisticated, the humans are a lot more detailed. theres just a lot more detail In General. the main cast is, like, super dirty for the middle 90% of the film, and it feels like, yeah, We Have This Technology Now. we can render so many individual glitter sprinkles suck to hamms ass and they will be in every single scene. the “fur tech” on lotso and buster is also an obvious clue, especially in the flashback to lotso trudging through the rain back to his owners house. its like “look! we can make this teddy bear SO wet!” and wow! yeah! you did! so wet!
lotso himself is also an interesting villain in terms of sheer bastardness. he is just a huge jerk. he could have hit that button so easily! and he was so mean to the baby! but at the same time hes a great character in how he slowly “changes” throughout the movie. he is kind of an obvious “pixar ‘twist’ villain” but again, the amazing performance by ned beatty really saves him. also he does get a nice comeuppance at the end, which was necessary because hes really the biggest villain in the series so far. hes knowingly malicious and doesnt have any greater motive, hes just an embittered megalomaniac who (apparently) has sent other toys to be broken, thrown away, and incinerated at the landfill. he honestly deserves worse than being strapped to the front of a truck but it works for a family movie.
i have a couple more thoughts on 3 (i guess i did have a fair amount of stuff to say about it) but im getting tired of writing. the music is good as usual, but the vocal stuff being entirely back-loaded (in the credits) is a bit disappointing since ive always been a fan of the songs, but i get that they were going for something different. the jokes about ken being, uh, ‘flamboyant’ felt out of place, mostly the one at the end (”uh, buzz? barbie didnt write this”) because it comes from one of the gang and not unnamed lotso goon #3, but i guess its pretty tame in the scheme of things.
overall im really looking forward to seeing what 4 does with the series. whew!

I decided to design a quirkless vigilante deku! His vigilante name is Asteroid (mainly just bc it sounds cool and matches the jacket that he found at a thrift shop).
Info about his gear and backstory under the cut!
If you can’t read the picture, it says little details about his gear.
He has gloves for hand to hand combat, which is his main specialty.
His mask has a voice modifier built in, with buttons and knobs so that he can change the volume, what voice he is using, turn it off, change the pitch, or mute his voice in general.
He has a knife that he only uses in emergencies, and hes only willing to use it on villain’s arms and legs so he doesn’t critically hurt them
He has eskrima rods, which is what he mainly uses when hand to hand won’t suffice
He has a FAKE gun, which he uses for intimidation purposes in emergencies
He has a backpack, which is thin enough that he can hide it under his jacket
He keeps a gps tracker on him, which he can stick onto a villain or can be used to track him if he is kidnapped
He has a first aid kit for obvious reasons
He keeps no less than 3 water bottles on him because hydration is key to success
He has a burner phone that he can use to call the police or family or whatever in emergencies
He keeps a locked notebook on him, so he can take confidential notes about villains and important events
As for his backstory, he’s still quirkless. After coming home injured from being bullied too many times, Inko signs him up for martial arts and self defense classes. She knows that he’ll need them in the future due to prejudice against quirkless people, but he ends up really enjoying them. He ends up taking multiple disciplines, and going into competitions.
However, he still wants to be a hero to help people, so Inko ends up going with him to start volunteering at soup kitchens, clean ups, etc. At first he doesn’t really get it, but as he volunteers more he becomes more invested in helping other people in small ways. He starts volunteering at bigger projects, like building houses for the homeless, to try and make a difference.
Because of this and school, he doesn’t have as much time for quirk analysis, but he still enjoys theorizing and talking about quirks on forums. He’s rarely at school outside of class due to training and volunteering, so he isn’t bullied all that much either.
However, the years of bullying from his childhood left their mark, and he is very shy and doesn’t trust easily. He has to work in the back at soup kitchens, because he cant handle interacting with so many people at once when helping serve. At clean ups and builds, aside from other people he sees there regularly, he keeps to himself. He doesn’t have any friends from martial arts classes or school, either.
Not to mention his self doubt issues. Despite what everyone says about him being a hard worker or helping others, he has a hard time believing it.
He never actually intended to become a vigilante. However, one day on the way home he passed by someone who was being mugged in an alley. And because of his nature to help whenever he can, he used his martial arts skills to easily take down the villain. The person thanked him profusely, but he deflected the praise, saying that helping people wasn’t anything special. The person wouldn’t budge, and finally he relented and took a coupon they offered him, and went on his way.
And then it happened again. And again. And again.
By the 20th time, people begin to talk about it. Sure, its nothing big - just a forum thread with less than 100 views, but still, people know him. People think hes a vigilante.
This isn’t exactly an ideal situation, but he can’t stop himself from helping others. Which leads to him defending a pink haired girl from some bullies who were beating her up.
Thats how he meets Hatsume Mei, 13 year old genius, same age as him. She insists on making him his friend, which he can’t argue against because a. he would like a friends, but friendship is hard b. Hatsume Mei is an unstoppable force, and Izuku is the furthest thing from an immovable object.
And then one day, while their hanging out, Izuku once again steps in to stop a purse snatcher, and Mei has a realization.
“Hey, are you like, a vigilante or something?”
“Uh, I don’t think so? I just step in when someone is in trouble, which happens, uh, a lot.”
“So you’re a vigilante.”
Despite clarifying that he, a quirkless 13 year old is not a vigilante, Mei decides she will be his tech support. Plus, its good practice to try and get into UA by building Izuku some gear.
So that how Izuku ends up with a thrift shop hoodie with a shit ton of kevlar sewn in, other sturdy gear, some combat boots painted green with stars to match his hoodie, a back pack, a tool belt, and some self defense weapons. In order to not give his mom a heart attack by coming home with a stab wound, he and mei sewed kevlar into just about everything he was wearing, and he kept a gps tracker on him at all times so that, if he was kidnapped, they could find him.
Mei eventually also builds him some smoke bombs, flash bangs, and pepper spray, and in the process of helping her he realizes “oh hey, building things is fun and im good at it.” He even builds himself a pair of goggles with a zoom function, barely needing her help.
He mainly deals with small crime- the things police and heroes don’t notice, but he makes a name for himself. He tells everyone that he is Asteroid- small compared to planets, but still bright enough to be seen in the sky. No one knows who he really is because he covers his freckles with make up, he has a mask with a voice modifier, and he covers his hair with the hoodie, but they still thank his vigilante persona. One girl invited him to go to the bar with her and her friends, and two guys have tried to give him money as thanks.
Being a vigilante was actually pretty fun. He and Mei worked together to build better gear, and all the research that building gear required helped him do good in his science classes also. His teacher recommends him going for a tech school, or even UA’s general or support department.
He would like to go to UA with Mei, but he isn’t an idiot. Anyone who has been online knows who Asteroid is. There are multiple hero forum posts about him, and theres a small subreddit filled with people thanking him for helping them. One wrong move and someone at UA would realize who he is, and he’d be arrested. Sure, it isn’t technically vigilantism because he doesn’t have a quirk, but he’s still using force against others, and he doubts that smoke bombs are something a 14 year old is allowed to have. So, hero school is out of the question.
He thinks about tech school, and almost has his mind set until one night, he finds a villain with a fire quirk. He has scars on his face, and has cornered a few girls in an alley. So Izuku steps in, and probably has his first real fight.
Sure, he’s been in skirmishes before, but nothing as extreme as this. The girls get an opening to run away, but Izuku doesn’t. This guy knows how to fight, and how to use his quirk to help him fight. Izuku is almost impressed. They trade blow for blow. The man with the fire quirk is wearing extremely thin clothes, so he feels Izuku’s blows harder, but Izuku is getting burned easily. Just barely, however, Izuku manages to knock him hard on the head with an eskrima rod (not how it was intended to be used, but it works), sending him down. Some zipties and pinching some pressure points, and the man is completely down.
As he walks away, nursing his wounds, he thinks about what could’ve been done better. If his fabric was fire proof, he wouldn’t have been burned as hard. If he had something like a taser to shock enemies, he would’ve gone down faster. If he had better gloves, his knuckles wouldn’t be so bloody after that fight. It goes on and on.
And Izuku knows the best way to gain access to those materials is UA’s support department.
He calls Mei that night, and with a sigh, reveals probably he stupidest idea since becoming a vigilante.

The Ideal Fan Roundup/Multi fan review: A discussion about fan coverage/reviewing and how it can improve.
Id really love a comprehensive fan roundup like the one that pcgamer made for gaming headsets linked here.. This included detail on the frequency ranges that each headset produced accurately and details more subjective traits such as mic quality and design that help readers more quickly decide which headset makes the most sense for them, despite how varied headset design can be.
There are in my mind, 2 key areas that most fan reviews or roundups seem to miss out on (understandably in some cases). These areas cause most fan reviews to be rather lackluster in comparison as they as a result (even some of the more detailed ones), miss out on key factors I think consumers value when picking out a fan.
First is the actual volume of air being moved through various environments.
Adding the actual amount of air moved per amount of time to comparisons seems like a far more reasonable way to compare fans as while RPM is easy to measure, the lack of a singular fan design to make the test controlled means that the typical method involving comparing them is fatally flawed as at the same RPM one fan might move a notably larger amount of air than another, meaning that one could come off with the impression that a fan that is actually better at moving air at any given decibel level (which isn't the be all and end all..), which I think is one of if not the most important point of comparison for prospective consumer fan buyers, is the worse fan of the comparison.
The second thing that comes to mind is hard to objectively measure but I still feel should be included in some form. That has to do with the frequencies emitted and general pleasantness and or consistency of the sound.
While as Ive said its not possible to give an objective measure of what sound is optimal, including a frequency range graph or chart, akin to a frame time chart for cpus for instance, I think, would greatly improve a prospective buyers ability to make a choice on what fan to buy from a glance. Too add to this, recordings of each fan up for comparison at various flow rates in each environment (related to the first point) I think would greatly benefit them, allowing them to get a better picture of what they would actually be experiencing with each fan. This is particularly important when the end goal, I think, of most consumer fan buyers, is to have a cooling setup which is optimally comfortable for them at their price range.
Of course with these both, Its understandable why most review outlets dont go through this effort given how small I imagine the audience of fan reviews are compared to other components. That being said it would be wonderful to have the occasional, perhaps even yearly fan roundup comparing fans with these areas accounted for. Something similar to the article linked above but for fans of fans.
What would the perfect roundup look like within reason then.
First I suppose we had better outline what needs to be tested to arrange a rough setup.
First there needs to be a test platform able to test the fans in 2 physical configurations to act as analogs that hopefully would cover the vast amount of regular consumer use cases. To accomplish this I imagine there are 2 test scenarios that would cover the vast majority of cases.
The first would be testing the fan through a very thin mesh reminiscent of a typical case fan filter like you would find at the intakes of most cases with thin brace points. Perhaps something like this silverstone fan filter kit or this fan filter would suffice as analogs for the purpose.
The second type of test scenario I imagine would be a radiator of standard/average thickness and build, as an analog for any fan placement requiring high static pressure like cpu coolers or... radiators.
Next there needs to be a system measure the airflow of each fan across different speeds and both environments as objectively as possible. This I imagine is the hardest part and has great impact with regards to the lack of reviews that cover fans in this way (Related gamers nexus video talking about the difficulties of getting into fan review). What this system looks like Im not quite sure.
For audio, I think the hard part has already been done. Many reviews already include either the necessary comparative audio clips or decimal levels at various rpm levels.
All that would then be needed to give a quick indication to readers of what each fan is capable of, similarly to how one would look at FPS charts to pick out a cpu, is a rundown or table for each fan, with this set of statistics, media and information.
I imagine that would something like this;
  Fan X
Airflow Level Maximum Airflow Fixed Airflow 1 Fixed Airflow 2 RPM Highest Dependant on fan blade design Dependant on fan blade design Decibel rating fan dependant fan dependant fan dependant Audio recording fan dependant fan dependant fan dependant Frequency range chart fan dependant fan dependant fan dependant
Of course however, this is not perfect, and not by a long shot as fan review Im sure is very difficult, and I am no physicist. There are likely quite a few areas where its not ideal or perhaps not even fair to all fans.
For one thing fans have different optimal RPM/Airflow levels and they aren't even necessarily all that linear.
Then on top of that and related to the differences between fans, fans can behave even more erratically with different levels of impedance (though I imagine if there is enough commonality a common point, fair for most fans can be decided on with oddities pointed out).
Theres also differences in fan shape, which I imagine might make one fans output more pleasant than another's wholly dependant on from where the fan is positioned in reference to the listener (different frequencies dampened more or less by different types of materials).
TL:DR, I think fan reviews often miss out in some key areas that really do have an impact on consumer choice when it comes to fans. Areas that give more meaningful measures of performance, or more comparable understandings of noise. (Ctrl - F "Fan X" to see a graph detailing what I think a more ideal fan roundup would cover).
Of course I've posted this to hear others opinions so id like to hear yours too.

Melissa Gordon 👏🏻💕 (I still have a few names to add to this post and images)
Melissa’s is an American painter currently working in Berlin. Her work is really interesting and thought provoking it concentrates on the idea of gesture and what a gesture is. Melissa explains that gestures is the thing that exists between the index and the icon, the moment of transition between the idea and the finished painting.
Gesture is the back bone of Melissa’s practice. She talks about her work in such a poetic and articulate way. The icon also made me think of movie icons. In someways paintings become icon’s they almost have their own personality like film actors they become encapsulated and etched into history. Film is a running thread throughout Melissa’s work. Melissa talks about painting coming into existing it is almost a catalogue of its birth.
Melissa talks about the gesture being the space between the poet and the actor. In which she explains that the poet creates, but often does not perform, whereas the actor performs, but does not create, meaning that the gesture is the bit that exists in the space between, which she describes as a look or the movement of a hand that allows the narrative to come alive.
Melissa uses a mixture of methods, mediums and disciplines her painting are creates using photography, silk screen print, painting, found objects, surfaces, architectural structures these structures then become part of the spaces that they inhabit, the structures themselves are almost sculptural.
Melissa paintings stretch beyond the canvas to installations. She talks about the structures dissecting the room, some parts seem to create a kind of negative or positive visualisation of a maze. An internal or external reflection. Almost existing and becoming part of the architectural space itself, bleeding from one to the other like the fluidity of the paint.
Melissa sees the paint as a metaphor for water and the water is a metaphor for women. She talks about how women throughout history are often described as leaky vessels or cracked pot unable to be contained often clogging up machinery and causing disruption. Melissa’s work is allowing the painting to break free from the canvas and the reach out into the atmosphere without the limits of their containers.
She talks about her earlier photography work existing on imaginary surface of glossy paint, which causes the images to seem disembodied or floating on the surface. They are disconnected, but still contained by the canvas, which in turn is contained by the architectural structures, which is contained within the room so really her current work is also about reaching out and expanding, but this also reminds me of my work bursts out into the space around me. Melissa talks about containers and layers, which is a very similar language that I apply to my own work. Layering ideas, collaging images and footage, multiple contexts, containers and meanings. It’s why Im drawn to a multidisciplinary practice.
Melissa talking about containers and water reminded me of a quote by Yoko Ono. I became obsessed with this quote last year. The quote ended up become part of my prints: ‘We are all water in different containers, so let's evaporate together.’ We are after all are one race the human race. We all consist of over 80% water we are all ruled by the moon. Weather we like it or not we are all one with the world around us. It always try to remember that the more detached we are from our environment the more broken we become. We are everything and everything is us and our reality is merely perception.
Melissa prints are silk screen prints, which she calls Female Readymades. They consist of sections of work surfaces and found objects. The objects themselves are printed true to life. The prints depict cleaned surfaces, work spaces, floors and brush bristles. Melissa describes them as reminiscent of crime scene photography. They almost look like they are back lite like an X-ray or a film negative which once again ties in the subject of film and documentation.
Melissa used fencing, warning tape, signs, clothing, chains, ropes, which to me all talk of boundaries limits and restrictions. Representative of women's constant struggle to be accepted in a male dominated world. A women with something to say is often cast aside. Labelled as emotional, sensitive (although emotional and sensitivity are positives in my eyes) crazy, bossy, bolshy, aggressive, controlling, loud, manipulative. Where as a man would be described as strong minded, ambitious, forthright, knowledgeable, a leader, confident etc etc. This toxicity is engrained in every facet of our society so no wonder women crack. Theres no wonder we feel trapped and contained. As Melissa says let's become the water and break free. Any form of oppression will create a inevitable response.
There is a constant daily feeling of being misinterpreted and misjudged. I know I deal with this struggle. Societies expectation of what a women is allowed to be has lead women (including myself) to constantly apologise and constantly edit and doubt what we are allowed to say, which in turn leads to low self esteem, low confidence and self doubt. We are capable of doing anything if we just allow ourselves to believe in our own ability to be ourselves.
Melissa uses space is such an interesting way, she talks about the space between or the gaps between, which funnily enough is also the name of a piece of work I made during lockdown and is the way I see my observational videos and photos as spaces in time, the gaps where Im most in connection with the world around me. Like the gestures the moments I capture are of chance observation where the lines of existence are blurred and interruption from reality I feel like those are gaps that connect everything. Like the gaps that connect Melissa painting. I find it interesting that she sees these painting like sections of film which are records of reality. I also find so much beauty in unintended marks that are permanently recorded her work is such a beautiful visual interpretation.
Melissa’s work is a tongue in cheek take on an abstract painting not intended to be merely decorative like most Abstract painting could be perceived. Melissa’s work explores documentation of the unintentional. Her prints remind me of the ghost prints I use the get from my lino cuts or press prints. I actually used to layer them too. Strangely enough I also collect marks and stains from paint like records of matter creating patterns. I love the look of organically formed impression. I also created a slippage piece during the first lockdown that ended up moving from painting to photography. The work itself no longer exists in the same form it was photographed in because initially it was juts a record of the process. Like Melissa says it is a gesture that I see as site specific. It's a gesture to me that could not be truly replicated again unless photographed so I suppose it could be seem as a way of preserving or containing its creation.
Melissa also talks about her interest in film being linked to her paintings and prints. The painting themselves resemble stills or negative with the gaps on the wall being the places where gestures lives.
Melissa’s Female Readymades were inspired by the under representation of female artist and the speculation about the authorship of Marcel Duchamps ‘Fountain’ by Elsa Von Freytag - Loringhoven and xxxxxxxx. Her works talks about this idea that many female artist authorship for their work was stolen. It’s still happening to this day. Funnily enough, I did an essay on Duchamp's work Estant Donnes, in which I discussed the speculation surrounding the fountain and it’s authorship. I think it is really important for female artist and artists in general to keep writing about these things.
I though it was really interesting that Melissa used a photograph taken in Marcel Duchamp’s studio, which depicts the fountain being hung. Melissa saw this as a rather aggressive thing for Marcel to do. She disgust its disappearance and that fact that Marcel did not calm authorship for many year. Melissa didn't seem to think there was any evidence, but after my research during my essay I actually think there is quite a lot of information out there and I don't think its merely speculative either, there are some really interesting detailed published papers that really made me think.
Melissa said something really interesting. she said that was should let the history speak for itself and I completely agree. The more people research these works and others like them the more these artists will be recognised and come to light within the wider community.
Melissa was really helpful in both the Q&A and the one to one. She suggested some really I nteresting artists and books for me to read. As well as a feminist discussion and reading group.
Recently been suggested that maybe I should concentrate on one thing, which I appreciate the advice very much, but I really don't work like that. I don't think like that either. My work may be perceived as a globular house by some or confusing and unclear by others. Melissa even said it doesn't have to be tidied up, which I thought was a good analogy, we digest and tidy up what we are thinking and what we want to portray. I don't like to be put in a box or contained so why start now. I just have to share what I want to share in a thoughtful way. I was thinking about this in the context of my instagram account. To me is not a collection of works, but more a display of progress and documentation so maybe that is also the work?
Why should any artist drop things that interest them. In my opinion it all adds to their practice. To become more palatable to a viewer is to become a product designer not a fine artist. If my work appears confusing it is probably because Im still simmering. As Rory always says it will all make sense in the end and I think it finally is. The Meaning and connections take time. I like my grainy over saturated photographs. I feel they are fitting in our existential world. I also enjoy blurry distorted close up images and videos. Reality isn't perfect.
I also spoke with Melissa about water being a running theme in my work and talked about Hydro Feminism. I looked this up straight after the one to one and I was blown away. The movement of solidarity for people across bodies of water. I will have to add this as a separate Tumblr entry. I have far too much to add about it. This subject is so interesting and so apt to my practice.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet Melissa. Im really looking forward to following her work. She has an exciting installation planned where she will be recreating the interior wall of both Elsa Von Freytag - Loringhoven and Jenny xxxx apartment walls. The viewer can walk through their passed living space. As an installation artist this really speaks to me. The floating walls are like a ghost of their passed and viewer is almost existing between dimensions of reality become part of the past and the present, which is a running theme in my work too. Its absolutely brilliant. I really look forward to seeing it coming to fruition.

Reflection | Workshop 2
 4th June 2020 | online workshop | 6 people - Group discussion
Part 1 : Word Based
Activity 1 : State one quality about ourselves
Some of the words I got where - Patient , joyful, calm & patient, indecisive
Activity 2 : Pick ONE word out of FIVE
Player 1
1. umbrella - protected and safe 2. Water - calm and composed. I’m okay to go with the flow most times 3. can opener - I picked can opener because I can find solutions.
Player 2
1.Music box - because I’m entertaining  2. Rainbow - it brightens the sky on a rainy day and I’m feeling hopeful right now 3. Door - feels like it allows people to come in. I am welcoming.
Player 3
1.Ball - because I do things around sports and in a way, the ball can go in any direction.  2. Sand - it can take whatever shape you put it into  3. Stairway - I think theres no final point in my life. I think theres always something work in progress.
Player 4
1.Tree bark - because I’m grounded 2. Waterfall - I relate to waterfall because I’m very emotional.  3. Cloud - I am very moody - somedays grey and somedays white and my name itself means cloud
Player 5
1. 2. Pillow - soft and cuddly. And in general its the best thing ever. I am the best shit ever. 3.  ocean  - I found ocean appropriate. Its very vast and its very deep and its also pretty dark. And its something I can relate my imagination to. And you know how some people are really scared of exploring the depths of the ocean. And its also a lot of pressure to take.
Player 6
1.Rock - hard exterior  2. Waves - calm, it can be soothing sea and it can be a tsunami. extremes.  3. Shadow - its dark as I am in a lot of things that I think of. I can match peoples energy - I can imitate them.
Activity 3 : You get ONE word, find a connection
Slightly more challenging because you get one word and you must find a way to associate with it
Player 1
Boat - The way I could relate to the word I got is - well a boat can sail. I think if you know how to do it properly then you can withstand harsher waters. If you are comfortable and then you can handle it. If Im prepared about a situation if its tricky or difficult, I can handle it a lot better.
Player 2
Thorn - I can be hurtful. I can get angry. I can also protect the flower.
Player 3
Sharpener - I dont like to see anything negative in a person or even me. In my relationships, there are lots of things which are very different about them - id say for them. Some id change for me and some for them. I’m always looking to sharpen my skills and change relationships for the better
Player 4
Chair - my word was chair. I associate with it because I give people comfort so if someone comes to me, I do provide comfort. But it also stands on four feet. So I feel like my support system keeps me stable and that intern helps me to provide comfort to people.
Player 5
Night - I feel like on one side, experiencing a really pretty night. I fee like I can empathise with people and provide comfort and on the other hand the night can also get terrors. The dark fucked up thoughts and depression that comes with it. A flip side thing.
Player 6
Rain - it can be harsh and moody in a way. But also calming when you’re inside the house so it can have two different sides of a coin.
Activity 4 : Draw metaphors for yourself
At this point player 5 said how it was easier to draw the metaphor and it was a bit challenging to sit and word the drawing correctly.
Player 1 - “ill never have enough of my blue crayon”
It means if there something or a person that gives me comfort, I wouldn’t lose that person and try really hard to keep them in my life. A thing or a hobby. Ill do everything I can make sure to have it in my life
“happy as a pig” trying to be positive and be happy with whatever situation. theres no point in being unhappy with given situations.
Player 2- an open door with rainbow - an open door to happiness
Player 3  - I took my words sharpener and sand  “harder, better, sharper, stronger” I’ve also drawn a sand watch. It takes the form of anything. I feel like theres always something missing, something is constantly happening.
Player 4 -  so I made clouds because I’m really moody. And I drew the few people who always deal with my moods.
Player 5 - drew an ocean - part of the ocean is beautiful and the bottom has dark elements ( a treasure chest, a piranha, a whale, a dead person. Also drew a book - but then once you know me I go on non stop. And the whisk is because I create. Its one of my tools and my little universe. And the rings remind me of the planetary movement.
Maybe I can ask Player 5 to elaborate the new components she added and if there was any symbolic value to any of them.
Player 6 - I mixed all elements. I drew a shadow version of the drawing. One where I create my own problems and then me trying to protect others from theirs. I just put a rock in there just because and I added a storm. Its a duality.
At this point I also shared a few of my own - Tea pot , Music box , Egg
I noticed during this activity that some people used words and images . So their words complimented their drawings.
A challenge I faced during these workshops is how sometimes people brought in borrowed meanings into their objects. Like if an object reminded them of something someone said or did and it has some impact on them. Then they added that meaning into their story. Weaving it.
This exercise didn’t necessarily add more value. Most people seemed to repeat their metaphors - only in some more detail.
My follow up question to the players would be - did this exercise help build up and clean out the metaphors - make them more clear or was it just a repetition of expression - giving your thought a visual form?
Part 2 : Theme Based
Activity 1: State one quality for a tree
I asked people to give one quality to a tree. I now see that people applied some of these qualities when they were later asked to find similarities with the tree.
Activity 2 : If you were a tree, what would you look like
When I asked people to draw a tree that represents them - some people went into creating a version that would be ideal but which may not necessarily fit where they are in life - there was also imagination that came into play.
Player 5 focused on her tree being able to give to the animal community
Player 2 drew a tree that he found inspiring
Player 1 emphasised how important it was to be stable and strong
I think people focused on the “if you were” a lot more than if you were a tree, then what kind.
Activity 3: if this group of people are a single tree, what part would you be?
Player 1 said she would be the branch, she feels like she can support people but not as much as the bark would.
Player 2 I would be the leaves because they are visually pleasing, they are calming and they are just hanging there. Taking in the sunlight
Player 3 I think I’m really like the roots , ike it absorbs the water, the foundation for the tree. The stronger and better the roots the better the tree grows
Player 5  for me id be the little hole in the bark because I fee like the older I grow the more I need this sense of home and feeling of belonging somewhere. Having a little shell to call my own.
Player 4 I think id be the fruit because I think I’m sweet.
Player 6 I picked a single leaf - I see us all as a group and all of us as single leaves. In a broader sense, a part of a whole - nothing standing out, nothing standing out but it makes a part of a group.
Activity 4 : Pick a tree you most associate with. At this point I showed images of different trees.
Player 1 picked a autumn tree because of the warmth
Player 2  went on the visually appealing one
Player 4  picked the one with fruits - because it looks similar to my tree that I drew
Player 6 picked two. First one because it was similar to the ideas and the drawing I drew.
Player 5 picked the one with fruits. Giving and inviting. The tree with green mush - a safe environment with other trees.
Interestingly, player 5 was able to build onto the image of the tree and imagine what surrounds it.
Player 3  picked the fruit one and the one above the autumn tree. Nishant says he has a lot to give - it doesn’t come right away, it takes a while. And in the other image - the surrounding of the tree impacted the tree. Seems adventurous - on a hill.
Activity 5 : Make metaphorical portraits ( with new or old metaphors + physical attributes, if you like)
People did have fun making their metaphorical portraits but I think its because this group is very creative and involved in creativity hence they were more patient.
(Some of the portraits can be found on the blog)
Overall Feedback
Player 3 says, “ my eyes gravitated for things I was already thinking of” when it came to picking a tree.
Player 5 said she already had an idea for the tree and then I had to pick and choose.
Player 5 said that when I gave her a word, she was able to talk about it and visualise. But when I gave an image, she had to compromise and make it fit.
Player 3 said that some of the things people tend to draw are very specific to how we’ve been taught to draw them - like trees. For someone who isn’t much into arts. They might choose to draw a simplified tree that they are trained to draw.
Player 2 felt like although the activities were fun and the session was engaging. He didn’t really get a metaphor out of it at the end of the day
Player 6 suggested to - Give people one word and see how all people interpret it.
Player 3 suggested that I test concepts
Player 4 said that we are designers. We can think of things to associate with. Its harder for people who aren’t designers.
I got suggestions to test this with an older audience and younger audience
Player 3 said that people who are much older face different types of challenges and face mid life crises. Their responses could be irrational or bizarre. From a younger crowd, I did expect a lot of creativity but with an older audience that would change things.
Player 4 said that she didn’t realise that a certain object could encompass the things I felt. I knew the overlying feelings but I didn’t visually associated it with anything.
Overall Reflections
At times there was a focus on what I want to be as opposed to what I am
Drawing the tree impacted picture selection.
The creative background of this group may have impacted the workshop
The outcome may not have been entirely clear even with the creative bits
People found it engaging and fun.
People love to hear other peoples perspective on things
Providing visuals can be very limiting when you start with people trying to give a glimpse of their imagination.
The age might affect the creative output. And if the people are conditioned to think in a creative way.

I was obviously a small skeptical initially spending this much, however once you use it an individual will know why it is actually a required item. A Couple Of things I adore concerning this lifter - The Actual cross brace at the hook finish as well as the cross brace in the handle end. The Particular brace around the hook end permits you to rest your handle along with your lid as long as you're shifting items around around the fire or even need a spare hand regarding one thing else. Simply hook it on the lid and also you understand correct where it is always to come back to (don't let it sit too long, silly, you could burn off your hand). This likewise helps in order to maintain the lid via tipping to the side when checking your own vittles, assists keep ashes/ coals coming from falling in. Great! The Particular cross brace at the handle end can become a great surprise too. 1 of my ovens is a deep 12 inch. This weighs any lot. These People use up little space after they are usually put away after use. useful product. one thing I don't like is that frequently once you go to set something being a dutch oven lid on the rack, the rack will sometimes partly close. Anyone have to be watchful to create positive the actual rack remains completely open up or even the object you're putting around the rack could slide off the particular stand. This specific could ruin your current day. I get found out that putting a dish towel down 1st and then putting the actual stand on leading of your dishtowel can help using this problem. 55 Gallon Drum Cover Inside winter, the actual cold wet ground will sap your heat via my coals and set my coals out just about all together in certain instances, that is the largest difficulty I had with my dutch oven. Within order to always be able to solve this problem, I bought a $14 steel drum protect and also drilled 1/4 inch holes 1 1/2 to always be able to 2 " apart in the middle instead of purchasing a fancy cooking table. A New little air can flow into my coals by means of the holes, along with its useful to aid me keep a constant, hot temperature. Wisk Broom Ashes will build up on the surface of your current dutch oven and underneath and also that will smother your coals. Besides, when youre slow cooking for also long intervals involving time, any wisk broom will offer you a large help. Tripod To end up being honest, Ive never used a tripod however it really looks cool. It can keep your dutch oven far far from your heat source. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media/vc/cf62b61d-b8f8-4071-8d58-bfa2b729e608.jpg Heavy duty strong steel construction and nickel plated chain together with 'S' hook for simple cooking height adjustment. That was obviously a bit shorter compared to I necessary for my over ground fire pit consequently I bought 3 cinder blocks and hang up these beneath the particular legs to have a new little more height. My Lodge dutch oven includes a spiral handle (helps ensure that will it stays cool along with easier to handle) which in turn doesn't allow the supplied hook to install to the dutch oven, I went to the nearby home improvement center and also bought 1 foot regarding chain and two hooks. This kind of permits me to put a hook upon both sides of the spiral piece and then utilize the tripod supplied hook for connecting to the chain. Others Gloves -- the most important things to maintain anyone safe is the gloves. I usually head out to possess a outdoor cooking with my loved ones and buddies simply by utilizing your dutch oven.
