having vague thoughts about E3 and the current state of AAA game development in general..

like yeah direct promotions have had more of an impact than Big Events for me, and the main thing I'd want to see out of E3 are trailers for new games or the conversations that follow online - but a few points on that

I can just as easily look up “new games for [platform] [year]” on youtube

Something about the way AAA games are built these days makes me get bored of them ⅔ of the way through, if I even make it that far, on top of them charging more for less content and hiding away the rest behind multiple DLC packs

I've mostly been buying indies the past few years and have gotten a lot of fun out of them; they continue to deliver a nearly unrivaled experience of fun gameplay mechanics and interesting/emotional stories at a ridiculously low cost

I also have emulators for going back and playing old games I really liked so I'm not exactly desperate for new games

and idk!! weird to see E3 officially ending but I also think the landscape is very different these days including the game companies themselves. I'm not a game dev so I can't rly speak to what the change has looked like on their end over the past 10-20 yrs.

#y'all my anxiety has me spiraling as of late because it just feels like my whole life is falling apart at this point #i got fired from my job a couple of months ago and i've been scrambling to try and find a new one #i work part time at a store i really love but it pays shit #and i've had all of these interviews and no one wants to hire me and i just feel unhireable at this point and it's hard not to despair #and on top of that i'm struggling with my self esteem again #i know i'm not ugly per se but i'm struggling with feeling confident in the way i look as a big girl #and all of my old insecurities are rearing their ugly heads and i want to cry just thinking about it #and i feel like such a failure right now even though i know that life has its ups and downs but my stupid brain just won't chill #and i don't really have any friends in the area because they all either moved away or didn't live here to begin with #and i'm tired of living at home because of my stupid student loans and not being able to afford to live on my own #i have one person i hang out with and we just met and i don't want to scare them off because they're a great friend and person #and i just feel like i'm never going to meet anybody who's going to love me the way i want to be loved because of my looks #also because it's me. and i feel like i'm so flawed as a person that no one will ever fall in love with me #and i've just been feeling really alone lately and i'm trying to do things to make me feel better but it's just so HARD right now #and i love writing because it gives me a chance to explore some of my feelings and it's something i genuinely love to do #and i'm sitting here waiting for the day things start to get better. and i know we all joke and i'm gonna sounds so dumb for saying this #but i feel like i was meant to be famous? or do something great idk and it's something everyone has always told me #and idk if my feelings of inadequacy are because of that or what but i'm scared that my life is going to mean nothing in the end #anyway this was a lot and you can pretend like you didn't read it. i just wanted to write some of my feelings down

dang that third episode was 10/10.

regarding loustat though its almost painful at this point. because yes, lestat has the emotional intelligence and maturity of a raisin and displays abusive tendencies BUT at the core of him he genuinely does love and care about louis. its difficult because you kinda wanna shake him hard so that common sense comes into him but you also wanna pet his hair and give him the love he so clearly craves and has never had.

the thing about louis though too, is that while he is quite often at the receiving end of lestat’s behaviour he seems to know the direct buttons to press, either through verbal remarks or physical actions, that are so painful for lestat that it just winds him up even more and causes him to do more outlandish shit. 

at this point i genuinely think they’re triggering each-other but i want them to work so fucking bad because i truly believe they’re each other’s person. just kiss and make-up and never argue (almost impossible for them, i know) again. it makes it even worse when book readers warn that it gets much worse and im just sat here like.

 ‘idk how much more of this my poor heart can take’, but im way too invested to not see how it ends (can someone tell me it gets better lmfao)

Goosebumps 2023

Aight, I love the first eight episodes of this show so much. It has a tight, solid story and incredibly endearing characters. All of the teen characters felt distinct, the individual stories were very well done, and everything just worked. We also had the great story of Harold Biddle (I know it's cliche but he's my baby) and the endless torment of poor Nathan Bratt (he's my other baby). And everything concluded very nicely in episode 8, my only real issue was Slappy not being as hilarious and extra like he usually is, but that's fine it's good that they branched out and tried new things. But I just can't get behind episodes 9 and 10. The story just isn't as good here, the whole feel of the show was just off, and the main five just kinda got demoted to melodrama for an episode, plus Isaiah dying sucked. Idk, I have hope for season 2 and I'll definitely rewatch the earlier episodes of the show for just how good they were, but I feel like we're pretty far down a road I don't like. But that's whatever I still love all the care put into this series.

iwtv is hard to watch sometimes because louis is the most unreliable narrator since theo decker who's the most unrealiable narrator since richard papen who's the most unreliable narrator since nick carraway who's the most- and that's the point but then you do wonder. because obviously, this entire story is an interview, we only see what louis wants daniel to know; hence we never actually see the assult on claudia, we don't see the entire physical fight, some of the noises are weird and messy. nothing in this show is actually objective, even though it is obvious that this is what louis is trying to be, but even he cannot remember everything - as illustrated in the episode where the same scene is played twice - one time without rain and the other - with. it's all infuriating, it's brilliant

Robin was interviewed in the morning television earlier today and oh god I want to hug him 🥺

and not only because his (porko-like) leopard print jacket looked so cosy and soft

#the whole interview had such a...low-key negative vibe somehow? #the interviewer asked some interesting questions alright but it felt like robin was constantly asked to explain himself #first robin was asked why he's in UMK now when years ago he said he thinks eurovision/umk ''distorts the artist's image'' #(as in they will from then on be known as ''the artist who went to eurovision'') #then he was asked what he himself had to do with making of his UMK song (as if no one expects him to be in no way part of it) #then he was asked if he was expecting the song to face so much criticism #and it does seem like he at some point realised (before the song was released) that it's not what people were expecting of him #ngl i'm one of them but at the same time i feel a little sorry for robin who genuinely seems to love the song #and thinks it represents him the best. and like. if the artist thinks like that then who am i to argue with it? #robin: ''...and no matter how the song does in UMK i'm still gonna have a great song to perfom in concerts'' #the interviewer: ''so you're gonna keep perfoming it regardless?'' #(said in a tone that says ''oh so you're gonna be performing it even though it's crap'') #okay well then the interviewer talks about how lordi was not praised either when they were chosen for ESC #to which robin doesn't have much to say because he was so young that he can't remember so that was awkward as well 😂 #then he had to answer questions about why he was driving a car and filming a video for social media at the same time #''how did you end up with this decision to film while driving a car?'' I feel like the problem with a lot of Disney's live action remakes (and arguably Wish) is they're trying to appeal to a crowd that no longer exists, namely the people who used to claim that the Disney Princesses were sexist.

All the interviews tend to include, "Well she's not chasing a MAN anymore" which...almost no one sees the princesses like that, anymore. Virtually NO ONE still believes the princesses are man-chasing sexist caricatures of women.

Cinderella is now hailed as an abuse victim who stayed strong long enough to get help to get out of her situation. Anyone who says she should have saved herself is basically regarded as a victim blamer. And it's very clear in the film she wasn't looking to marry the prince, she just wanted a night off. She was the only one who wasn't in line to meet him. She didn't find out she met the prince until he went looking for her!

Snow White is now hailed for her negotiation skills, ability to calm down after extreme stress (she had a moment of panic and had to cry for a bit, but who wouldn't after finding out The Queen hired someone to kill you?), and ability to take charge of a house of adult men. And again, she was an abuse victim, this time trying to escape ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS. While she dreamed of her prince, it was secondary to her main goal of SURVIVAL. There are also entire video essays about how Snow White gave hope to people during The Great Depression.

Everyone acknowledges that Ariel wanted to be human BEFORE meeting Eric. We all know she was a nerd hyperfixating on humans, and also standing up to her prejudiced father.

We understand Sleeping Beauty wasn't the main character, the Three Good Fairies were, AND PHILLIP WOULD NEVER HAVE BEATEN MALEFICENT WITHOUT THEM! He literally depended on them! WOMEN SAVED THE DAY! But even then, is it really such a sin for a girl to fantasize about romance and fall for someone with corny pickup lines?

We all understand Jasmine just wanted someone to treat her LIKE A PERSON. She rejected every Prince before Aladdin because they treated her like a prize. So why did they need her to want to be Sultan? How did that make her more feminist when she already wanted to be treated like an equal and have a say in her future? Is it only empowering if you want a career in politics?

We admire that Belle, despite living in a judgemental village, was kind to everyone (even though she found the village life dull), and her story teaches girls that the guy everyone else loves isn't always a good guy. What's sexist about teaching girls about red flags? And she didn't start being nice to The Beast until he started treating her with respect and kindness.

Do I really NEED to defend Mulan or Tiana? I think they speak for themselves.

Rapunzel was yet another abuse victim who just needed a little help to get out of her bad situation. In this case, she also needed to learn that she was an abuse victim, and that what Mother Gothel did WASN'T normal, much like many victims of gaslighting.

And don't get me started on the non-princess animals.

Perdita had a healthy relationship with Pongo to the point she was open to express her pregnancy fears to him, and was ready to TEAR APART Cruella's goons for daring to touch her puppies as well as adopting the other puppies. Like, she was so ferocious the goons mistook her for a hyena! She's basically that "I AM THAT GIRL'S MOTHER!" scene from SpyXFamily if Yor were a dog. She and her husband were a TEAM.....but they made a Cruella live action to turn her into a girlboss?! The literal animal abuser!? THAT'S the woman you wanted to put on a pedestal when Perdita was RIGHT THERE!?

Duchess kept her kittens calm after they had been catnapped and was classy as heck. Nice to everyone regardless of social class during a time period where that was uncommon.

Lady stood up to Tramp when she believed he had abandoned her and didn't really care about her. She found out he was a heartbreaker and was like, "Nuh uh. No. You are not doing that to me! You put me through enough."

Miss Bianca from The Rescuers was IN CHARGE the whole movie, and was willing to risk life and limb to save an innocent child. THAT TINY MOUSE TOOK ON ALLIGATORS! And she picked Bernard to accompany her because he was the only one who wasn't ogling her. And then in the sequel SHE DID IT ALL AGAIN! I wish I were as brave as her.

Like, the public haven't accused these ladies of being sexist caricatures since 2014 (Actresses and actors don't count, they're out of touch like the rest of Hollywood) yet Disney is operating under the assumption that the public still thinks that way, hence all the "sHe'S nOt AfTeR a MaN iN ThIs VeRsIOn" talk.

The live action remakes are trying to attract an audience that doesn't really exist much, anymore, and back when it did exist, was comprised mainly of people who didn't actually watch the films. The Disney princesses are no longer seen as sexist, and feminine qualities are no longer seen as weak or undesirable.
