OS had that first season charm. Very unpolished, still finding its footing but super enjoyable for those reasons

Probably the strongest series comedy-wise

That GORGEOUS 90s anime style

Main character dynamics were REALLY strong

Ash's personality felt much more like a shitty little 10 year old which was entertaining

Dub writing was also the best hands down

Sun & Moon (S20-S22)

Honestly tied for first with OS for me

REALLY fun ensemble cast! They do a fantastic job giving each character enough time for you to get to know and care about

Excellent modern anime style that perfectly fit the vibe of the season and allowed for some of the best character animation of the show's run

Finally figured out how to write Ash like a 10 year old again (but in a kind/sweet 10 year old way as opposed to OS)

Very different from previous series in terms of the formula they'd follow. Doing a school series instead of another "8 badges to championship" plot felt new and fresh!

This series genuinely made me cry the most (MEMORIES IN THE MIST!!!!! LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME)

Chronicles (S0)

Fun concept! It was really nice to see more of the side characters without Ash there. We get to see more of Misty, Tracey, Daisy, Brock, Ritchie, Oak, Delia, Butch, Cassidy, Jessie, James and Meowth!

Stylistically really nice. Just solid drawings all around and it retained the 90s anime style in digital form more successfully than other digitally done series imo

BUTCH AND CASSIDY!!! Team Rocket centric episodes!!! Training Daze!!!!!!!

Idk how possible it would have been (seems like a TON of work) but it made me want one of these in between each season, where we'd follow the characters that Ash had just said goodbye to for the next region.

Diamond and Pearl (S10-S13)

Series I grew up with! Honestly I was kinda a hater as a kid but having watched it back, I love the series

Love that Ash and Dawn were bros. They had a really fun dynamic.

Debatably peak Team Rocket. They had some of the best Team Rocket centric episodes this series.

Contests were really fun and a bit more figured out compared to the Advanced series

Fun, memorable rivals for Ash (Paul and Barry) as well as Dawn (Zoey, Kenny and Jessilina sometimes)

This is unfortunately where I stopped caring about Ash as much. He feels kinda watered down for the next couple series.

Advanced (S6-S9)

Pretty tied up with DP for me

Really fun series! Still had some of that early Pokémon charm

I appreciated that they put Ash in more of a mentor role for May (but he still had a lot to learn himself).

Ash and May constantly butting heads was really fun

May was a very compelling character to me, being very clumsy, kinda lazy, directionless, not really into Pokémon, etc. But then over time, she comes around and finds something she's interested in!

Journeys (S23-S25)

I love the episodic take as well as the way they let the characters jump around from region to region at random

Goh was a GREAT travel companion to Ash. They contrast each other nicely, have moments where they get on each others' nerves but still get along and have a mutual admiration for one another.

It was fun that they made Goh's thing catching every Pokémon (the motto of the entire series) so they could focus on Ash just training and prepping for Worlds.

Amaaaazing style. Took the great parts of classic Pokémon, roundness of SM and blended em together for a really fun look.

Black & White (S14-S16)

I don't think it's that controversial to have BW this low haha

I did enjoy Iris and Cilan but it felt like the writers didn't reaaally know what to do with them? Also this was their first time in a while not having Brock and it shows. I feel like Brock was successful because he was grounded and lower energy compared to the rest of the kids. Having 3 pretty eccentric characters is kind of a lot. No hate to the characters in the slightest, there was just not as much balance.

I think maybe they leaned on Cilan and Iris for more comedic relief because they killed the comedic relief that was Team Rocket this series. I appreciate them trying something new with Jessie, James and Meowth but I don't think it worked very well lol

XY (S17-S19)

I've ranted about this series a lot LOL. I get the appeal of it, but it just wasn't for me. I felt like it was the weakest comedy-wise and took itself a bit too seriously for my taste

My main gripe is that Serena, Clemont and Bonnie all like,,, worship Ash. By doing so, Ash begins to feel like a side character because we're constantly looking at Ash through their eyes. There's so little conflict within the group so their dynamics feel really flat. I think this dynamic could have worked if they leaned waaay more into Ash being a mentor and maybe feeling the pressure of having to be a role model for the people around him.

Team Rocket very much feels like an afterthought in this series. They did in Journeys as well, but at least in Journeys they were doing something silly and also had a handful of episodes dedicated to em.

Outside of that, the episodes weren't super memorable for me

I think it's just frustrating because there was sooooo much potential character-wise

Of the Earth: A Brown-Eye-Centric Eye Default!

Hiiiii! I made these for my own game to compliment @eulaliasims's lovely darker default skin sets of @withlovefromsimtown's awesome birthday suit skins! I haven't seen a default eye set that uses these color choices yet, so I know it's not popular, but I've decided to share it just in case someone else would like to use them.

I used Oepu's Default Maxis Match Eyes textures, added it to a maxis match AlfredAskew sclera, and edited the colors using my own semi-realistic swatch. Full preview at the end of this post! Color-wise, this set replaces: •dark blue with black •light blue with amber brown •gray with hazel •emerald green with a earthier tone •light brown with a deeper shade Defaults come in two versions: Maxis match iris size or semi-realistic iris size. Only choose one.

if you could write a tk centric episode, what would it be about? and what would you write for a carlos centric episode?

You know what I really really wanna know about TK is what his life looked like between rehab in California and the relapse in the pilot. I want to know about his recovery, about how he rebuilt his life, about if his New York coworkers ever knew very much about why he disappeared for a month, about if he lived in some kind of halfway house for a while after that 30 days, about if he made new friends after having to ditch his old friends because they were all still using and weren't safe for him to be around anymore, if he was really lonely and that's why he ended up latching so hard onto Alex even though it should have been clear Alex didn't love him back the same way. I know we sort of already had our TK begins but that time in his life remains such a mystery and I would love to explore it.

And sort of the same idea for Carlos tbh, after season four I am fascinated by him in the age range of like 18-22. When he was out but he thought his parents didn't accept him, the events that led to him deciding to marry Iris, how long they stayed together, when/how they ended up separating, how estranged they were before she went missing.

But if we're talking about a present day episode and not the past, I really want them searching for Gabriel's killer together. I don't want Carlos going off on his own and cutting TK out, I want them being a team and partners and doing this hard thing hand-in-hand and I want Carlos letting TK hold him at the end of a difficult day. Idk! I want a lot of things 😂 More things that the show could ever realistically provide.

911 Lone Star Rewatch: 1x03

Back at it again! So I actually have a decent recording this time (tumblr made me split it into 4 parts), which you can listen to below, but the general thoughts I had (and a few extra!) are written out as well :)!

Starting strong with the corn silo call--So, this is of course the episode where Judd and TK have their little spat. And it's such an interesting plot point for the season (and the series) because on paper TK and Judd seem so different, but I think this whole altercation makes a point to show how many fundamental similarities they have. Like they both have such strong reactions to what happens on this call because they both have such a deep capacity to care about the people around them. For TK that means not being able to leave Marjan behind and for Judd that means panicking about both Marjan and TK going under. And I think they are both people who have to deal with not being understood and having people assume things about them based on first interactions. Which they both do to each other too! Like TK calling Judd "cowboy Judd" and Judd assuming that TK had to follow his dad to Texas because he 'couldn't cut it'. It's all just very interesting! I could write a whole thesis on the similarities and differences between these two characters.

okay...so. we need to talk about the way the show handles Marjan losing her hijab in this scene. I don't love it. I don't mind the storyline. I think it allows for a very important education moment to discuss why Marjan chose to wear one in the first place. And how women deal with unwanted sexualization and they ways they are often blamed for other people's objectification of them. However, I wish they hadn't actually shown us her hair. I feel like that whole scene could have been done without the audience actually seeing her hair. Like focus the camera on the discarded fabric of her headscarf, do a close up of Marjan's face as she realizes what happened. Like we could put it together. I feel like showing her hair here (AND THEN AGAIN?? FOR NO REASON WHEN SHE'S IN THE MOSQUE?) makes it seem like less of a big deal than it is.

Once again thinking about the lack of Nancy in season 1 and how much I want a Nancy-centric storyline in Season 5.

TK looking for a fight!! Do we think this is something TK has done before? Gotten into fights for like... self-harm reasons? If we think we can classify this as self-harm.

POLICE STATION SCENE MY BELOVED. It really never dawned on me before that Carlos is the first person we hear use TK's real name. Like he's the first person to really see him. *insert crying emoji here*

"You mean with me?" This lineeeeeeeeeee. Carlos immediately assuming that he is the relapse. That TK views him as some kind of mistake. Ughhhhhhhhhhh.

So Carlos explicitly saying that TK needs to talk to someone about why he did something so suicidal--looping back to my thoughts in episode 1 about how the show never really addresses the fact that TK was trying to kill himself when he ODed. But I guess this is someone addressing it. And he doesn't even know! Once again, seeing right through TK.

oh god the meat eating contest.

The Carlos and Michelle scene just makes me wish that much more that we have some one-on-one scenes with Iris and Carlos next season. I would love to see him have that friendship outside of the 126.

Ah yes! Owen has his first treatment this episode and we get to meet Wayne. He's such a fun little side character for this season. Operating as Owen's cancer guide.

Everyone count how many times they say pride in this episode.

Would love for Marjan to have some Muslim friends next season. I suppose she has Joe... but that isn't really the same. I want to see her thriving in her community.

I forgot about the internet's biggest yoga hottie!! That call is so traumatic and for like no reason. Like the whole point was just to mention pride again.

Lowkey forgot that TK and Judd were fighting in this episode. They really do have a bit of a cold war for a while.

Has the honky tonk disappeared? I don't really remember seeing it in recent seasons.

"what about the captain's kid, Judd?" she asks, like Sierra isn't the same age as said kid.

Ah! The beginnings of Paul and Marjan's best friendship!! Seeing all these characters so early in their journey with each other, knowing how close they'll become is so great.

Owen's gonna Owen. And by that I mean make the situation worse. He tries. But he always ends up taking things too far. It's his fatal flaw. Also get to see his anger issues in this scene. Don't worry Owen, you'll get to work through that in a few seasons!

Judd opening up to TK about his feelings is so wonderful!!!!! I think it really does so much to break down TK's walls with him too. Because TK is such an emotional person and I think it really matters to him that he's seeing that Judd isn't just this macho-"cowboy Judd" that TK has labelled him as in his mind.

"Get a therapist!" When Michelle is right she's right.

So not to harp on how little I care about the Michelle storyline--but I think the biggest issue with it is how disconnected it feels from the rest of the show and with the rest of the characters. Even with Carlos (Who's is Iris' husband LOL) he doesn't seem nearly as invested in the whole thing as she does. It just isolates her character so much.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He is not an uwu soft boi, also, I think it's good that he returned to Japan at the end of the duology, he's forging his OWN path

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: He deserved to lose it, to just go absolutely apeshit... he's a much nicer person than I would be in every situation he's in. Basically, I want him to pull an Apollo Justice and straight up deck people in the face (Sholmes for hiding Kazuma being alive, heck, Kazuma for being a dick =3=)

My favourite of my fics is... the rarely-read ColdWave neighbourfic, Mending Wall. There's a cute kid, lots of feels, and far more rambly plot than I was expecting when I started.

My fluffiest fic is... maybe the ColdFlash coffee shop meet-cute Better Latte Than Never - but the sequels are an angst fest (sorry, @blueelvewithwings!). Or there's this coldwestallen ficlet about pillows. (Literally) as fluffy as I get. It will never happen again.

My funniest fic is... the Retired Rogues series. In which retirement is not going so well for our ColdWave, till Mick takes things into his own hands. (I can't do funny, so I'm quite proud of these. I'm also quite proud to have been accused of Problematic Fic, for Mick plotting behind his partner's back. Sure, that's the most problematic thing about... ColdWave. 😁)

My saddest fic is... Rebuild, from deep in the depths of my angst-writing days. But it was hard to choose, for there are too many.

A fic I almost didn't post is... The Way Out (Mick Rory and self harm - read the content warnings). Write what you need to write, kids, even if involves stigma or you get ableism for it. Someone will be glad you did. Someone might be you.

The fic I had most fun writing is... Stealing Time & Saving Time. In which Len can't deal with his new powers and the boys can't deal with each other... until Iris steps in and bashes their heads together. (Can't have ColdWestAllen without the traditional Iris head-bashing.)

My favourite ship to write is... ColdWave. Still. Always. Gehenna is the ColdWave headcanon that I will be still talking about in the nursing home when I'm 90. The nurses will ask, of the roguish criminals they think I might have made up, "Did you know them when you were young, love?" and I will smile and nod.

My favourite femslash ship to write is... NewsHacker. They are perfect. The Mystery was fun to write. Zamaya are another fave.

My favourite OT3 to write is... You're expecting ColdWestAllen, aren't you? And you'd be right. But I have a soft spot for Rogue Canary too.

My favourite non-romantic pairing to write is... Len and Lisa. Love a sibling relationship that complicated. Many headcanons.

My favourite character to write is... Mick Rory. Still. Always. (You can tell because I've written 45 fics with him in.) Here's one.

My favourite neurodiversity fic is... Runs in the Family, with ADHD speedsters. I loved writing my ND Legends fics (like Meds) too.

The fic I remember writing most clearly is... Words. Inspired by a prompt/thought from @stungunmilly2 about autistic Mick, who struggles with spoken words but can't stop writing them. And then I couldn't stop writing it for three days. Writer!Mick is a mood.

My favourite 'written out of spite' fic is... Still Queer (Captain Canary)

My most-read fic is Can't Take That Away From Me (ColdFlash). I'm pretty happy to see it in first position, on balance. It was fun to write. (And I'm really sorry about still leaving the sequel unfinished)

My least-read fic is (Getting Past the) Pride and Prejudice - pt 2 of a NewsHacker series that is admittedly not very good, but still - Iris/Zari, okay?

The WIP I most regret not finishing is... Take The Keys (And Drive Forever). Lisa Snart-centric, would have been KillerGold if I'd got far enough with the Caitlin part, and it was going to be spooky.

My favourite gen fic is... Remember. Zari Tomaz's last moments in the timeline.

My crackiest fic is... (Here's To The) Tears and Beers and Wasted Years. ColdWestAllenWave with comedy therapy and time travel and being trapped and phobias and evil doppelgangers and flashbacks and future kids and feels. You're welcome.

kaveh snaps without realizing. he doesn't want to, yet it's far from enjoyable to sit at the dinner table with his dorm-mates like a scolded, ill-behaved child.

his junior seated right next to him, all eyes on kaveh even though he can't see it with his gaze facing down at his lap.

the mornings are a bit more manageable. nari and cyno have breakfast with eyes barely open, too spent to notice how he plays around with his eggs before discarding them swiftly.

haytham doesn't speak. he never does, regarding this topic at least. his face stays buried in his book when cyno pesters him or nari raises a brow as he dumps whatever's left on his plate in the trash can.

he cleans up the table in the mornings and sneaks an apple in kaveh's bag.

no judgement or curiosity from the looks of it.

kaveh likes apples.

they remind him of home. of all the times his mother would walk into the room with a plate in her hand, slices laid out neatly as he studied, crouched over his desk.

a warm hand ruffling his then brown hair, a loving kiss on his forehead.

kaveh takes it out of his bag at lunch break — juicy, crunchy sometimes. a bit rough to bite into when it's not their season. regardless, he eats it.

sometimes like a starved child, only realizing when he sinks his teeth into its flesh that he hasn't had a proper meal for days.

kaveh devours it — like a man sentenced to death, having his last wish come true.

he nibbles on it down to the bone, down to its very core of seeds that burn the tip of his tongue.

he loves apples because they taste like his childhood — ridden with blissful ignorance and foolish euphoria before life peeled him away layer by layer like what he holds in his hand.

"is it like a weight thing?"

cyno is persistent today, worried to a point where he can no longer let it slide.

"it's not."

it really isn't. kaveh is fine with the way he looks. well, not fully — sometimes he looks at haytham with envy, though he would never admit it to anyone, not even himself.

if he was a bit taller, with wider shoulders, thicker biceps. he looks frail and dainty.

cyno, despite having a smaller frame like his own, makes up for it by being so strong. and nari, well, he doesn't really give a shit.

kaveh does.

he always feels like his mother and looks like his father, which is an abhorrent combo.

it's why he loves taking care of himself. it feels like nurturing the one person that dedicated her life to making him happy but never smiled from the heart a day in her life.

it's also why he despises looking in the mirror. because he sees the one person he can never bring back.

that's not why he struggles, though. if anything, that would mean that he would be inclined to indulge more in food.

"is it because you don't like our cooking? we can go out to—"

"cyno."

haytham interjects. he warns.

though he can't see kaveh's face he can tell by the way his chest heaves that he's holding back tears. biting down on his lip like he always does, most probably.

cyno knows it too, how he should shut up and let it go. he wishes he could be more like nari, having the freedom to let people make mistakes so they can fall and get back up on their own.

or like haytham, only interfering when it's absolutely necessary. keeping to himself until a situation escalates to life or death.

but how can he sit idly by and watch kaveh wither away?

their beloved, their sunshine.

cyno doesn't have to understand, and he probably can't anyways. whatever kaveh is going through, cyno knows he's strong enough to handle it.

but he's just so tired of watching kaveh burn himself away as he does so. as he emerges from every fight victorious yet still loses himself day by day.

kaveh stares at the plate.

he's not crying because of cyno's questions.

he weeps because he doesn't have the answers either.

his hands tremble reaching for the cupboards, his joyous laughter as he sits on the counter when nari cooks for them and wags his tail to the music coming from the streets — it fades away so quickly when they sit down to finally enjoy the meal.

are you allergic? watching your form? don't worry about it, you're still young. beautiful figure. let go a little! you don't like it? but i made it just for you!

kaveh feels nauseous, sick to his stomach. he's suffocated by new recipes and drowned by ones he's used to stuffing his face with.

another tear rolls down from his cheek and he realizes how his right hand is held gently by haytham, and his left by cyno under the table.

he looks across to find nari with his ears lowered — on his face a compassionate look that lacks pity. sincere.

the table he loathes, surrounded by the people he holds in the most sacred chamber of his aching heart.

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

Ooh hard to say. If the person is open to OC fics...then the Morgan Wells AU and my Lucy Kenobi AU. Especially since those are being actively written, and have been for a while, so you can chart my growth as a writer through them 😅

If they're not...then maybe "the little things (give you away)". It's Iris-centric, explores her feelings, explores Savitar a little more deeply...all of which might as well be part of my brand at this point 😅

Ooh also "come in, the water is(n't) fine"—I feel like it introduces me as a writer who's not afraid to write out-there/niche fic concepts, which is true! (The OC fics introduce that too, but this is an alternative for people who don’t like OC fics)

2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?

Canon Compliant, Title from a Taylor Swift Song, Canon Divergence, Father-Daughter Relationship, and Brother-Sister Relationships

Well...canon and I have a love-hate relationship—I align with their themes above all, then characterization, then plot. Usually my fics end up "canon nudged to the left". If I use the canon compliant tag, it usually means it isn't contradicted by canon, like it could be canon, but it's technically not (and might slightly contradict plot points or elements of characterization but still sticks to the themes). Canon compatible, if you will.

My titles come from all sorts of songs tbh, Taylor Swift’s songs are just easier to recall and that tag being “canonical” means it pops up more often in filtering.

Father-Daughter Relationship...absolutely. 100%. Morgan & Thawne (derogatory), Daniel & Sam, Harry & Jesse (not yet but in the future)...I do love them 🥰

Brother-Sister Relationships...well do I even have to say it 😂 Barry & Morgan and Lucy & Luke, my beloveds!! My brand!!

10. How do you decide what to write?

Honestly? It's wherever the muse leads. I get so many ideas, but...ideas are a dime a dozen. I figure out what I want to write based on which one I keep thinking about...and which one makes the words flow easier. Not much of a technical answer, sorry to say 😅 I just kinda go with the flow. The worst thing is trying to force your way through writing a fic—no one wins in that case.

11. Are you partial to a certain character/pairing or are you more equal-opportunity? If you are partial to any character/pairing, why do you think that is?

Oooh I am very partial towards platonic pairings nowadays...mostly because my OC fics (which I'm currently writing) have those. So do most of my fics, really—gen takes center stage. I ofc do love writing Maiko when the muse strikes, and I've written a few ficlets for Westallen, Snowest, Barrisco, Thallen, Westhallen, etc. Though I hope to write a full fic for Westallen this year!

Honestly I think I drift to gen fic because that's why I came to AO3 😂 the filtering on other sites is horrendous, and gen fics are difficult to find categorized so neatly. I've always been more compelled by platonic relationships than romantic ones, even as I cling tightly to the ships I adore. There’s just so much there…and so much of deep platonic relationships gets them labeled romantic by fandom or is otherwise stripped away. Strong platonic relationships are my kryptonite 💞 I love them so much. Whether they’re loving, complicated…or whether they’re in some way unhealthy or tied to a corruption arc 👀

As for why I love the ships I love...well, Maiko is just very near and dear to my heart and always will be, Westallen is the amazing gold-standard couple of my dreams (and they make each other better!), and Snowest, Westhallen, and Barrisco are my non-canon sweethearts 🥰 Caitlin and Iris have so many interesting parallels (I started shipping them out of spite and then I got attached), Westhallen is the perfect ending to s1, and Barrisco...they're just sunshine personified, come on (and Cisco is practically Barry's second lightning rod anyway, lbr. Don't be surprised if I end up writing Barriscowest one day). And ofc the list of ships I love goes on—Percabeth might very well be written one day

12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?

Hmm...I don't know of any tropes I've ever disliked that I like now, but...I think I like villain redemption more than I used to. Partly because of Zuko's arc in ATLA being so well-done. The problem is that so many villain redemptions aren't done well—either the villain isn't fully redeemed but the story acts like they are, or the villain IS fully redeemed and their claws are filed down—they lose their edge. Both are bad iterations of this trope ✋ the best is Zuko's. He joins the team, atones by literally helping them take down his father...and he never loses his edge, he just softens a smidge toward them. Which is natural—they ARE his friends, but he's still HIM, he's still got his edge that makes the others think "man I'm glad he's on our side now"

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)?

Killer Frost Barry! I've read a few fics with this trope (see this tag if you wanna read them too!), and they’re all wonderful, but I want more. I loosely teased the idea of writing one (and in that case, I'd probably have Iris as the Flash because she's always my first choice for when Barry isn't the Flash), and...who knows? Maybe one day.

Same for Iris as the Flash in general tbh. Out of both of these ideas, this is the one I’m more likely to write—speedster Iris, my beloved 🥰

41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”

Oh absolutely "Mind, Body, Soul" by palaces_out_of_paragraphs. Aside from it being a Barry-comforts-Iris-after-the-Mirrorverse fic, my favorite genre...it's also so lyrical in its writing:

"Iris counts their breaths in and out, his ribcage softly rising and falling over hers like a song. And she loses herself in the way he feels so warm, even all these stories up in the air, that lightning-like heat from him glowing between them, sparkling under the darkening sky, bathing her body in warmth."

Absolutely gorgeous. I can't recommend it highly enough

Not very clefdraki centric but-

Here is what I have so far

Kondraki faked getting his beastkeeping sigil and is a wild witch living in the toes. He dabbles in illusion magic also. He found an old school camera at the beach once, fixed it up and figured out how to use it. I dont know if 408 should be a hivemind creature that hangs out with him or his palisman

Draven attends St. Epiderm in the Abomination track. His scholarship is covered by Darius Deammone, who took him under his wing as his personal prodigy. He plays flyer derby on the side, his palisman is a beetle.

Clef is either a basilisk or a descendant of the titans i havent decided they both have Lore Potential

Same with Meri tho they find her later on

Iris, Talloran and Adams are students at St. Epiderm and Draven's friends Adams is in the construction track, Talloran and Iris are in oracle. Iris wants to study illusions too, kondraki is her mentor on that front

Kon found Clef rummaging through his trash once and decided to keep him. They fall in love at some point idk

The main reason Talloran is in the oracle coven is because they're haunted. Might be lore relevant later depends on the final episode

Honestly I didn't put much focus on the other doctors for this au. I think Iceberg would be in the potions coven? Maybe hes like kikimora that would be funny.

I also toyed with the idea of kon having a curse that slowly turns him into a flock of butterflies but im,, not sure about that

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

You know, I think it might actually have been Joe? I've not written much Joe POV but it's always so fun to do, particularly in scenes with Len, cos Joe is always so done and ready to fight at all times lmao. I have a half-written one shot I really wanna finish where Joe finds out about coldwestallen and almost has a heart attack and it was SO fun to write, I'm cackling just thinking about it

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

i feel like the obvious answer is len. i've seen a lot of people saying that and for good reason, he's so difficult to get right. particularly when it comes to dialogue. i loooove writing dialogue, it's my fave, but when i'm editing i find myself revisiting so much of his dialogue and deleting, tweaking, rewriting, SO much of it ends up on the proverbial cutting-room floor because when it comes to len, i take the old edict "he would not fucking say that" so seriously. it's always in my mind. but the problem with len is that there's so MUCH he would not fucking say. and it makes it very difficult when there are things i NEED him to say for the plot but it just doesn't ring as authentic.

there's this post that i saw once that talks about the ways people say things without saying them, specifically when it comes to expressing love. like they say "fasten your seatbelt" or "text me when you get home safe", but what they're actually saying is "i love you, i care about you", and that's the balance i'm basically always trying to strike with len. it's like, how can i have him say things without saying it. so i spend a LOT of time agonizing over that

that being said i think the character who's challenged me the most this year has actually been iris. because i've been reading and thinking a little more critically about like. fandom racism. and how characters of colour, but especially Black characters, are treated by fandoms and by the narrative, and so i've been trying to be a lot more intentional about how i write iris and particularly how i'm describing her, and not wanting to perpetuate harm in my portrayal and potentially create an unsafe space for Black folks in fandom, and also thinking about what candice patton herself has said about the fact that iris was never really written as Black, especially in the early seasons. like. this is a white character who they happened to cast a Black woman to play. so that's also something that's been going around in my head, like her race is important and would affect her whole perspective and worldview, and so i don't want to forget that, but then i don't want to overstep and write things that are outside my lane... there have been times where i've really got in my head about it, which is good, i think i'd rather be thinking too hard about it than being careless in my approach, but it's defo been at the forefront of my mind as she takes a bigger role in the fics i'm writing, especially as i have a few iris-centric longfic ideas that i'd LOVE to work on in future but that's defo something i'll have to be even more aware of if i do that, so yeah.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

You know, frustratingly I think my fave thing I've written this year is something I can't share because it's a huuuuge DNDB spoiler 😭 so I'll settle for sharing a steamy lil snippet from the westallen "don't worry, darling" AU i mentioned because it's a super romantic scene and i loooove it

it hasn't been edited so still kinda rough around the edges but im obsessed with like. its general essence!

Turning towards him, she stood on her toes to reach more easily and Barry tightened his arm around her waist, grabbed her thigh with the other and hoisted her up onto the chest of drawers in front of the window, knocking over a lamp which thunked to the floor and sent all the light in the room crazy, filling it with weird shadows and changing the angles of their faces. Barry pressed her against the window pane and Iris jumped, making a startled little sound at the coldness of the glass that caused her to arch into him even more, wrapping her legs around his waist for leverage. He leaned hungrily into her, bracing one palm against the window, and before long the glass had fogged around his palm and haloed around her like a pale aura, the moonlight outside smudging her edges while they kissed and kissed like they’d never stop.
