My day has only just started [EST timezone you see, I am so sorry if I'm incomprehensible] but it's going well, thank you!

I was a bit sad because I chose to give the benefit of the doubt to someone someone else was being mean to, but the person I gave the benefit too turned out to be exactly who I hoped they weren't.

That red x yellow shipper turned out to be a pr*shipper but just didn't say it, a friend of mine told me about their gross twitter acc, as well as the other shipper who sided with them. The only thing they're right about is yes it does indeed look like it's 2022 again :c

It makes me sad to see nothing but gatekeepers and pr*shippers in the dhmis tag so I'm just going to not bother looking anymore, you all had your chances.

It's very messy and has upset me for a bit, but I went offline to go to town and I felt much better!!

I've definitely had times where I've seen some amazing work by someone else and thought "well what's the point in making anything myself? this person's nailing it!". that's a trap, though! comparing yourself to others is a one way ticket to a hellpit of perfectionism that's a real struggle to get out of.

much better to compare yourself to your past self. you can see the growth, then. and if you see someone else do something amazing, analyse it and see if you can pick up anything from it you can use in your own art.

the "two cakes" meme is an old one but nothing's said it better - even if you made a cake that isnt as impressive as another one at the table, it's still another cake! holy shit, two cakes!

what's most important to me, despite things like technical proficiency, is that I'm having fun and that my art gets the point across that I'm trying to make. I don't mean that it has to have super deep meaning - more like, if I want to draw a cute dragon wizard casting a spell, then did I draw a cute dragon wizard casting a spell? that's all that matters, baybee

also I'm self-taught and I try not to fret about things like "super duper realistic anatomy". I've always been a "learn as I go" kinda guy so as long as it looks right to me then it's good enough

This is based purely on what I could remember from shows I have watched/could jog my memory about by scrolling through @absolutebl ‘s blog, and what I’m guessing their dynamic/the emotions of the love scene will be. If you think of another one, use that reblog baybee~

1. Kinnporsche bathroom scene - You want an emotional release they’ll GIVE you a fucking emotional release. Minus the sexual assault from your lover’s cousin, I’m assuming.

2. LITA - Rain and Phayu after the race??? Possibly going the freak nasty route? I honestly don’t know how they could improve upon this one though. Maybe their first time instead??

3. Cutie Pie - ZeeNew first time. The dynamics in this one are a little off, imo, but there was some level of vulnerability and emotional connection that they could want to play with.

4. Cherry Magic - obviously not very explicit reference but a great example of emotional connection and love and tenderness between two people who have built a solid foundation for a relationship (but highly unlikely given timeline of when CM aired vs. when I assume Unknown was filmed. Bummer.)

5. Feel You Linger in the Air - EMOTIONS!!! VULNERABILITY!! HORNINESS!!! FULFILLMENT AFTER EXTENDED PINING!!! Need I say more?? I’m kind of gunning for this one because ALL of the love scenes were chef’s kiss in this show.

I’m about to go to bed so this is not as eloquent as I’d wish but here’s my answer!

soo. It’s not spelled out in the story. I personally believe it’s because he didn’t think he was going to be able to keep hiding out in the region after Thessicher betrayed him and heading back to Orgoreyn was going to be hard too. I’m not sure he 100% intended to die but I think he was at a point where he did not see the value in being more cautious with his life either.

The first time he snuck into Orgoreyn he was barely able to get a low-paid difficult job at the fish cannery and his work permit was randomly suspended for a month due to a xenophobic law. Add to that the fact that he’s a wanted criminal on the Orgota side of the border for busting Genly out of prison… options are bleak even if he does survive. I don’t know that he wholly intended to die. He likely didn’t intend to cross the border in front of Genly, but Genly refused to leave his side the whole day because Genly was under the impression Estraven would be able to make it across the border after dark. There might have also been a sliver of a chance of making it past the guards! Projectile guns are rarer than sonic guns in Karhide, and aren’t used in Orgoreyn at all. There was a chance the Karhidish guards could have been carrying sonic guns like they were at Kuseben when Estraven crossed the Gulf of Charisune (not lethal at enough of a distance, so speed helps!) instead of projectile ones like they actually did. I think it was a horribly risky gamble but he didn’t have enough hope or options left to plan something safer.

That’s the in-fiction level. Now, on an authorial level, I think he did it because Le Guin wished to write a tragedy, and you can’t have a tragedy without terrible loss.

The first time I read Left Hand I was shocked by Estraven’s death and angry at Le Guin for it. But the second time I read it, two years later, the narrative clicked for me as a whole. It doesn’t come out of nowhere and it fits with the rest of the story. The tragedy is foreshadowed by the myths. The myths that Le Guin has her author/editor character Genly include aren’t intended as random samplings of Karhidish and Orgota lore. I’m sure they’ve got happier stories on Gethen. Le Guin on an authorial level and Genly on a higher in-fiction level are including stories about death and loss (most of them) and fear of the other turning to knowledge and union and the birth of new kinds of living in the world (orgota creation myth) and getting in trouble for returning land to previous owners (Estraven the Traitor) and so on, to set a tone, establish parallels with the text, and do the heavy lifting for worldbuilding. (At the risk of digressing, I also think the Eye of Meshe is doing a lot for the balance of light and darkness thesis. All light all the time no darkness is what the Yomesh state cult wants, but their prophet was miserable for it. And you need some shadows to see. Blinding light will make you trip on ice. That’s Leguinian Daoism baybee.)

But besides the myths, which do an excellent job of setting the theme and tone and giving us context for Estraven’s backstory (he’s too reticent and ashamed to tell us outright about Arek and Sorve) I also look at the New Port keystone in the first chapter as a symbol. Estraven tells Genly that the mortar of the keystone must be set in blood, because without blood the bond will fall, and that it used to be human blood. So when the Ekumen establishes a bond with Karhide and Gethen as a whole, there is once again blood in the metaphorical mortar, and it is Estraven’s.

HI... i finally beat covid & my brain is feeling a bit less mush, so i'm going to try and get into the swing of things here again! also, it's been two weeks since the dlc came out, which means i've gotta barf some thoughts under a readmore;

i've been spoiler conscious so i haven't had much of a chance to scream about it yet, but. But. (grabs you by the shoulders) Listen. i've been mentally comparing the end to dark oak since frontiers came out, because sonic x is in my brain at all times, so you can imagine the reaction i had when THIS HAPPENED,

THAT'S JUST THE SONIC POWER CANNON BAYBEE!! THAT'S SONIC DRIVER i love it, aa so cool... 😭 and CYBER SONIC?! HIS TEETH and the blue is so pretty! he is definitely a love letter to fleetway and i'm very endeared by that — kanemaru-san's voice acting during that scene is just really good too, as usual but i was impressed!! hearing sonic scream like that hurt but.. wow... cool...

it feels strange, i'm having a "two cakes?!" scenario with light's blog now... wondering which ending i want to be canon for him. the original is still the best narratively to me, but i love sonic's friends actually getting to help in final horizon! AND THE GUN AND CYBER SONIC I CAN'T NOT HAVE THAT i think, i might... mix them. so that.. hm,

team sonic still hunts down the emeralds to help sonic. they all meet up at the end of ouranos, and sonic fights supreme.

once supreme is down, the end takes over it's body like in final horizon. sonic fights it, steals the gun, ect ect.

he goes cyber sonic and eggman shoots him out of the gun, but he misses supreme? and goes right through the moon.

enough to wound it but not enough to kill. sonic's free floating through space...

... and sage takes over supreme to save him.

Been thinking of making my own bird-related blog. Like, a place for me to write articles and journals about wild birds as well as companion birds. It's just that there's not many bird-related websites that I've been able to find that don't just churn out bullshit, and they're often not written by a person who knows what they're talking about. I also seldom find anyone or anything that specifically writes about birding in the southwest that is even mildly entertaining. I'm honestly not sure how it would work but I kinda feel passionate about it and maybe that's all you need baybee

Okay! so as you may know by now i was a little underwhelmed by the first ep. it was solely a rick and co. episode (and gene? fuck it UP gene, baby), very little family interaction and not a whole lot of morty. what we got was great, itd be great to see more in the coming eps! also this is a VERY big nitpick, but the premiere ep had a very different animation style? i think?? either that or thats how it looks airing on the station itself. like, as an EPISODE it was just Okay. not really what i want in a season premiere. definitely left me wanting more.

it had SHENANIGANS. it had LORE. TWO STEERING WHEELS?? MORE MORTY! NOT ENOUGH MORTY GIVE US MORE. and GENE AGAIN. 2 FOR 2, FUCK IT UP GENE, BABY. and the animation looked like it was back to form as well! no more getting distracted by how Rick is rolling his eyes differently! the tone was VERY RnM, the way jerrick just went on a fucking bender, the burger calling card, the fucking space mafia boss shitting himself over morty being involved, LETS GO.

IM SO EXCITED. IM SO SO SO FUCKING READY.
