i feel like this is a hot take, but it's clear to me that so much of ianthe's outward projection of superiority is a deeply ingrained — really, formative — sense of inadequacy. it's to prove to everyone, even the people who were supposed to love her, who were supposed to inherently value her, that she does actually have value — in fact, she has the most value because look at what she can DO!
and i don't even think she's entirely internalized that, but that kind of projection kind of falls apart if you show even a moment of self-doubt
and i know ianthe isn’t supposed to be sympathetic here, or at least i’m assuming she’s not to most people, but can you imagine the body horror of being inextricably tied to and irrevocably altered by the guy you grew up with and didn’t even really like and who didn’t like you either (but who served you because that was his Role, and, who, even though you’ll never admit it, you maybe even cared about a bit because at a certain point that’s kind of unavoidable - i know she tried to convince palamedes she didn’t, but she is a known liar prone to sentimentality), but it was fine because you knew you were better than him, too?
except now you're not exactly, not entirely better than him, because he's not just fueling you, you didn't get to just use him to become someone who matters. instead, he's part of you, and you still don't matter?
like from what she says about her parents' reaction to the canaan house aftermath, even that part didn't work. she didn't earn mommy and daddy's validation, admiration, anything
and she's running his empire, but she's still third place to surrogate daddy, too. if she even places!
ianthe naberius is very much the consequences of her own actions, i’m not going full apologia here, just imagining being in that position and. goddamn

I'm full of family fluff today, so get ready for today's topic: How did all of the brothers meet in the Celestial Realm?
Warning: A bit of spoilers from the game, mostly from Seasons 3 and 4.
Now, we know all of the demon bros (discounting Satan) were extremely close when they were angels. However, for some of them, we've never been told exactly HOW they met.
Lucifer was put in charge of Mammon since Michael nor Raphael knew how to deal with/get close to him. Mostly due to the fact that according to Mammon himself:
Tumblr media
We still don't know what age Lucifer and Mammon were at the time that they first met, but from the sound of things, Lucifer was most likely the angelic equivalent of a teenager or a young adult, while Mammon was a preteen, maybe a teen? Maybe a bit older than Luke's age?
Apparently, Beel met or started to admire Lucifer after talking to him about his strength that he couldn't control at the time. Which is interesting!
Also, it's important to note that Mammon used to babysit the twins and Lilith, but I'm not sure what that implies. I'm certain that Lucifer had to have know all of them at a young age.
From what I can tell, most of the angels in the Celestial Realm know or have heard of each other, like a community of sorts.
So maybe Mammon volunteered or was assigned to look after Beel, Belphie, and Lilith, and he got attached along with Lucifer, Levi, and Asmo.
Speaking of Leviathan, I'm a firm believer that Levi was assigned to someone else, but he got so attached to Lucifer and Mammon that he became their brother instead.
Levi seems like the type to be extremely shy as a kid, so Mammon was probably the loud extrovert who came along and became his friend first, and then introduced him to Lucifer. [I have a whole sequence in my mind of Levi being absolutely terrified of Lucifer, with Mammon acting so mystified and impressed]. 🤣
Despite the fact that they argued a ton (and still do), I see Mammon and Levi being very close since they are about the same age.
Mammon would help his little brother out when it came to socializing and served as his voice sometimes, while still encouraging Levi to speak for himself.
As for Asmo, I'm not quite sure exactly. We've hardly gotten any clues about him, aside from the fact that he was always seen with Lucifer because of his beauty (his and Simeon's words, not mine!)
If I had to give a guess though, Asmo was most likely assigned to Lucifer, Mammon, and Leviathan when he was younger, hence why he has such a passionate outlook on them all compared to the rest.
He wasn't there at the very start, but he grew up with them all doting on him, which Asmo himself passed that doting behavior onto the twins and Lilith. Showering them with love! 🥰
Mammon and Leviathan were probably in charge of Asmo since Lucifer would be too busy, but he'd still get attention by his oldest brother almost every day when he'd see him, or when Asmo went looking for him.
Going back to Lilith and the twins, I have no idea how they got close in the first place.
The game hasn't told us anything about her overall history, and I'm assuming they never will.
But they have to have met young. That bond was as strong as steel, they had to have known each other for a LONG time.
So I'll give my best guess: after the twins were born and had grown up slightly (again, we don't know if they were ever babies or toddlers, but let's say they were), Lilith was born, and the moment the boys saw her in her little crib or play pen, it was all over. You guys know that look a toddler or a young kid gives when they're completely fascinated by something? Yeah that, that look times a million. And since then, they became the adorable, chaotic trio!
Author's note: Ignore the fact that Satan is in the picture above, yet I didn't talk about him. This was the only other angelic picture of brothers that I could find. Sorry Satan...😮‍💨

So, I am reading @deadcatwithaflamethrower OaLC for the, like, fourth time or something and I noticed a Thing and am now having Thinky Thoughts about it. It's like, two on the morning, these are gonna be a bit Rambly. Anyway.
What I noticed was that Nizar said something along the lines of "Edward black is terrified of hurting other people, I'm gonna have to fix that" (super paraphrasing, I've been up too long to check the actual line, it's somewhere in the first part) and, to my eternal delight/consternation, I, strenuously, disagree.
Delight because it makes the character feel so much more Real when you can disagree with them, especially when you know where they're coming from. Consternation because I have developed a bit of a Button regarding popular media's insistence that one must be willing/able to hurt another person to be Badass or even worth telling a story about. I, myself, am a soft spoken tender hearted fool and often find the characters I most relate to stripped of the very thing I related so much too, an unwillingness and/or inability to hurt another person, in the name of "growth".
Which is not to criticize the story, I Love it to bits and pieces, I mean, I've read it Multiple times. And beyond that, I Really get where Nizar (I really hope I've been spelling that right) is coming from, his time was Full of conflict AND he's teaching Defense AND they're literally in the middle of a war. Also, I was genuinely delighted to run across something I would disagree with him on AND that I found something new in the story on this reread. (Side note, I would Love to have this debate with Nizar, like, in person. I think it would be fun and also a Big Clash of, like, modern vs historical sensibilities. Cause, like, for Nizar, being able a willing to defend yourself was a necessary skill, you Had to have it AND (I'm pretty sure please don't yell at me if I'm wrong, but do gently correct cause I love learning, especially about history) that the 13/14 years old that Edward is in the story rn is, hmmmm, I don't wanna say closer to being an Adult, but, like, Distinctly Different to how I, a modern individual, would look at someone of that age and Immediately go A Child, so, like, while Nizar isn't exactly Happy that his class is necessary, he's less inclined to coddle and more inclined to throw them in the deep end (while waiting on the sidelines ready to dive in a help) and push for them to get comfortable with violence.) (I would also argue that a. Defense is mandatory for this year so forcing kids to get comfortable hurting people at this point when it's a required class is unfair and b. Running, as Nizar himself said, is always a viable option and, if they don't wanna run from a battle, there are all sorts of ways to be useful there Without needing to hurt someone, such as getting their friends out of danger (also, I Know that edward is a gryffindor, but Assuming that just because he's a gryff means that he Wants to fight is shortsighted and, also, discounts the bravery of those who go through life and refuse to hurt people (not that I know enough about edward as a character to state as to whether or not he Wants to work past that discomfort and be a traditional protector, it was more the fact that Nizar's first instinct was to do that and not to talk to edward about what kind of defense skills HE would want and use (though I will cut the man some slack, he was a painting, like, three weeks before or something))
Mostly this is tired excited flailing and also cemented to myself that OaLC is something I will Always come back and reread to see both what I missed the previous times and how the way my personality changes with age change the way I see and interact with the story.
It's a Really Good Story y'all
