No notes on this one I'm just happy crying at kirisaki middle school trio all having a chill time together like this h, i love these kids so much. I know one of the subbed versions of the episode tl'ed bow friends to bow bros but I started from thefinalcinderella's tls way back before I got my own copies of the novels so I chose to use that instead.

Seiya: It was back in middle school, when we celebrated my entry into the starting line-up at Minato’s house… Seiya, Minato, Shuu: Cheers! Minato: Seiya, congrats on getting into the line-up! Shuu: Congratulations, Takehaya-kun. Seiya: Thanks, Minato. You too, Fujiwara-kun. Minato: You worked really hard! Seiya: I wanted to be in the starting line-up for our last match in middle school after all. Minato: Now we can join official competitions together! We haven’t been in one since that time at the public tournament! That time felt great, so– Minato: Ah, ahaha… …How about we start eating? Seiya: …Sure. Minato: How is it? Seiya: Hm? It’s good. Minato: You hear that, Shuu? Shuu: What a relief… Minato: Shuu made this takoyaki! I taught him how. Shuu: I couldn’t make it as well as Minato does though. Seiya: Oh, I see... Thank you, but Fujiwara-kun I didn’t really peg you as the type to like takoyaki. Shuu: Back when we were being taught by Saionji-sensei, Minato brought over some takoyaki that he’d made, that was the first time I got to try it. Minato: I remember him looking at it all fascinated and stuff even. Shuu: Just recently I learned of at-home takoyaki makers when I came over to Minato’s house too. Seiya: Wait, Minato, you had Shuu make takoyaki when it’s only his first time using the machine? Minato: He said he wanted to try making some, so… Just know the first batch didn’t turn out too well. Shuu: I wanted to try it by myself. It looks simple enough but it was actually difficult in practice. Minato: You’re exaggerating… You just have to get used to it. Seiya: I kind of understand what Fujiwara-kun means though. When I actually started doing kyudo it was completely different from just watching people do it. Once I got the hang of something, after that I’d start to notice things I couldn’t do that I didn’t catch before. Shuu: Going forward with the bow from here, things might always feel like that. Minato: Always, huh… Minato: Back at the public tournament, there were a lot of archers that were around their 80s, weren’t there? Do you think those people have been doing kyudo this whole time? Shuu: Archery is something you work on throughout your whole life, so for the years you spend competing there are probably times where you　 just rest too. Seiya: There were probably people that met up with friends they did kyudo with in school who came together to do it again as well. Minato: I’m sure they all wanted to do kyudo together again. Shuu: It’s a curious thing, isn’t it? Minato: I wonder if it’s the power of bow friendship…? Shuu, Seiya: “Bow friendship”? Minato: It’s a friendship strung together with the bow, so a ‘bow friendship’. If you’ve drawn your bow with someone once, even if you grow apart, I feel like it'll bring you back together again. Shuu: I see. Since we’re bow friends, I was able to see you again, then I met Takehaya-kun too. And now we’re here eating takoyaki together. Is that what it means? Minato: The three of us are bow friends! Seiya: Then, since we’re bow friends, would you mind if I started calling you “Shuu”, Fujiwara-kun? Shuu: Not at all, as long as you let me call you “Seiya” too. Seiya: Of course. Minato: Hehe~ Seiya: …What is it? Minato: I’m just happy seeing you two get along. Shuu: It isn’t as if we don’t get along though… Seiya: Yeah. Minato: I know that, but still. I’m happy about it. Minato: So, once again, to bow friendship! Shuu, Seiya: To bow friendship!

TGCF Audio Drama Ep 12: XL asks for HC's company for one night

[context: this scene is just after the gambler's den dice throwing scene, they're back in the gambler's den as SQX said they need a distraction to investigate ghost city more, and XL volunteered to cause a distraction via gambling HC again]

Ghost: One wonders what prize this Daozhang wants to gamble our Lord Chengzhu for. Will it be mountains of gold and seas of silver, or a century's worth of spiritual powers? Will it be ten strokes of good fortune, or a plot of paradise?

XL: There is no need. All the treasures in the world are not what I seek. I only wish to ask Hua Chengzhu to spend one night with me. [1]

HC: (surprised) Hmm? (laughs)

Ghosts: AH??!

Ghost 1: Does he hear himself? Isn't he being far too bold!

Ghost 2: This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone daring to ask this type of request from Chengzhu!

Ghost 3: People really can't be evaluated by their appearances, this little Daozhang is bolder than he looks!

XL: Wait! I only meant that I simply want to ask Hua Chengzhu to play host to me, to take me out for one night to see the full sights of Ghost City, that's all. I wouldn't bring up any outrageous demands!

Ghost 1 (suggestively, implying sexual innuendos): Daozhang, what kind of "outrageous demands" do you mean? Is it to do this this this, or that that that?

Ghost 2: Yes yes yes, describe it to us clearly in detail!

XL: It's really not like that, everyone has misunderstood! All I meant was that I want to ask Hua Chengzhu to accompany me tonight, to stroll around...

Ghosts: Wow! 'Tonight'? Xiao Daozhang, you're really eager and impatient!

SQX: You'd better not explain any further, you're making it worse!

And with them, I mostly mean Amazon, because no matter the intention of the production team, this is why Amazon allowed it. And we take it as granted because we want this so bad. Which I totally, completely understand. Hadn’t I watched Doctor Who (2005) season 1 and Torchwood, I’d still be the same as you, I’d be head over heels for finally getting Ineffable Husbands canon and attentively waiting for season 3. But I did. And it made me realise that there’s always a choice. Because a wacky sci-fi-show from 2006 should not feel that revolutionary compared to something that came out 17 YEARS later. But it does. The way it portrays sexual and romantic attraction of any kind as a natural part of human existence without ever so much as batting an eye on it, the protagonist Captain Jack Harkness just being allowed to be male, the opposite of monosexual, polyamorous, vulnerable at times and talking about that one time he was pregnant and it just happens,… it still feels groundbreaking. thoughts on hypmic go! I have no idea what it is and suddenly a lot of my mutuals are talking about it

okay so i'm only like halfway through the anime and have not read any of the audio drama translations yet (they are on the wiki though thank god they didnt pull a happyele and take them down) but basically hypmic is like. they banned deadly weapons and said if you wanna fight someone you have to use these hypnosis microphones which manifest different powers and forms depending on the user and like.

^^ samatoki's. its one of my faves so far ahaha and anyway it does have the problem of All the Evil People are Women but two of them are milfs so. do with that what you will amsdfiop. Its just guys doing rap battles mostly against people who get in their way or bad guys (depending on the unit. samatoki's unit is mostly just fighting guys they dont like where as buster bros and matenro are more fighting against street thugs and terrorists as one does).

i have really latched onto it because my self inserts for fairy tail and one piece when i was like 16 had very similar power concepts so i am living my best life here. Also aside from buster bros all the characters are 20-35 which feels like a breath of fresh air holy shit 😭😭😭 the leader of matenro is 35 and like. 195cm/6'5. and ramuda is 24 and 155cm/5'1. he's very skrunkly and shaped.

K: That much is only natural. However… she really is strong, isn’t she? I mean, I’ve experienced some fights myself, but [going up against] a woman like her was a first.

E: Hm… Is she strong enough that even you can’t stop her from doing harm?

K: Well, in cases like this, it’s generally the heavier person who ends up winning. After all, if she really does have proper killing intent, I can’t afford to let her injure anyone. It’s difficult, isn’t it.

Which is why people were really annoyed by the characterization of Gojo in chapter 236. Gege is allowing a dislike of Gojo to affect how consistently he's written.

You can't say that this guy, who practically begged Nanami to mentor Yuuji, while not allowing Yuuji to be reduced to the title of "Sukuna's Vessel", is some flippant clown who's only out for the thrill of fighting.

The fandom can't keep pretending that this guy

who exhausted himself all so a middle school girl could enjoy her last moments of freedom, is uncaring.

The math ain't mathin', and people are finally noticing it.

TL;DR: Gojo Satoru deserves better and more consistent characterization and I hope it's not too late for him to get it.

Journalistic Integrity RE: Newt Schottelkotte’s RQ Article

This section of Schottelkotte’s article struck me as strange:

Then, I read the full version of the quote Schottelkotte used from Callum Dougherty’s Medium interview. Schottelkotte writes “TMA wasn't nearly the smash hit Dougherty describes until about 2019,” but in their quotation, Schottelkotte selectively omitted a middle paragraph in which Dougherty specifically acknowledges TMA’s growth in 2019 in order to paint Dougherty (and RQ by extension) in a negative light.

The Dougherty interview (Emphasis mine — italics show the omitted paragraph):

BC: A back catalog so large can be overwhelming for a listener, but I think that’s actually been a key part of your success and why people keep coming back. Magnus Archives has been around since 2016, but I’m curious to know when it started gaining traction?

CD: Believe it or not, Magnus was something of a hit right out the gate. Comparative to I guess what would be considered a popular audio-drama podcast now. It found an audience quite quickly.

Though what I would certainly say is that it was in 2019 that the show began to grow, and it went on what I would describe as a 10-month journey from being considered a very popular podcast, to the most popular fiction podcast in the world. That was a line of growth that looked pretty much like a straight line upwards, where we were finding month-on-month listenership doubling at a point. Every single month you could see it — there were hundreds of thousands, now there was a million this month, and it would go in that direction.

Schottelkotte’s selective omission gives the reader a VERY different impression of Dougherty’s words, and bends the truth in order to support their narrative. Personally, I’d even go so far as to call it a deliberate misquotation.

TL;DR: Journalistic integrity requires (among other things) fairness, impartiality, truth, and accuracy. As a result of this twisting of the truth, in addition to Schottelkotte’s initial failure to identify themselves as Marketing Director for Fable & Folly Network, I would not trust Newt Schottelkotte as a credible source.

I did hear about this! (for tl;dr Ice Adolescence has been officially cancelled.)

I have so many thoughts about this. First off, DAMN. Because getting to see what made Victor who he is was really cool and exciting!

But.

Russian skating has been plagued with doping scandals, and the Kremlin are invading sovereign countries and committing war crimes in them. I'd not be comfortable watching a movie about a Russian skating hero given what is happening there, which is not only broadly bad but specifically bad in skating. And that's not even mentioning Russia's disturbing (and escalating) record on LGBTIQ+ issues.

Second, it's been hard to be a Yuri on Ice fan in most spaces, because so much of what we see on social media is Mappa Where is Ice Ado?! and that gets really exhausting. It's hard to look for cute art and fun stories and meta about a series I adore when I have to slog through so much complaining and hatred of a series I love because the movie was indefinitely paused. Hopefully now that there is an answer, fans who are still creating and still trying to show their love for the incredible 12-episode gift we got of the original series will be what we see when we search the tags.

And finally, I'm originally a fan of Inuyasha. Inuyasha got a sequel, and the build up and hype coming into that was high. We got to see InuKag kid?! AHH! And then... the series arrived and (to put it lightly) did not meet expectations. And it caused an eruption of discourse in the fandom. Lots of creators left because they were being demanded to take part in ship wars and pro-anti wars and threw up their hands. So we left feeling less love for the original series based on the disappointment (and frankly, tomfoolery) of the fandom.

Am I disappointed? Yes. Because I love Yuri on Ice. I love Yuuri and I love Victor so so much.

Will this announcement do anything to reduce my love of Yuri on Ice? Absolutely not. It gives me more drive to create for the series, and to build their little world for myself since I now know that those 12 wonderful episodes (and amazing audio drama and manga!) might be what I get, and they can serve as a foundation for building my own little wonderful Yuri on Ice world with words.

(not really) Just a couple of notes in case some of the stuff is unfamiliar to people. Notes: -weed mats are those dark plastic fabric sheets put on top of garden plots to keep anything covered by them from getting any sunlight and growing. -instant/ready made mortar is just some quick to prepare cement the caulking gun is probably to dispense it, not sure what kacchan needs it for reagrding the lattice tho... - *he really just said bow here but it's pretty point a to b when the bow is involved it's gonna be kyudo so

Seiya: Weed mats, gravel, and what's this supposed to be... It looks like a wire puzzle- Kaito: Ouch! Seiya: Ah, I'm so so— ah... Kaito: Huh... So it was just you, Seiya. Seiya: What do you mean 'just' me? Kaito: You should look where you're going, be more careful. Also your glasses are slipping off. Seiya: That's because I bumped into you... Seiya: ... Kaito: ...My bad for asking. Well, anyway, let's go over to the metal fixtures section. Seiya: You're a great help, I wouldn't have been able to find these by myself. Kaito: This place is stupid huge after all. Kaito: Here, this is them. Take your pick. Seiya: They're pretty cheap. And to have this much just for 168 yen... Will this really be fine? Kaito: They asked you to buy it because it is, didn't they? ...Pfft, don't worry 'prez. Seiya: Huh, about what? Kaito: These might not look like much but they're tougher than you'd think. You don't need to worry about them. Seiya: What're you talking about? Kaito: The doorstops. Seiya: I see. Though it seems as if you were subtly taking a jab at me as well. Kaito: Must be your imagination. Seiya: Let's say that it was.

Hi Slug! If you've listened to the full songs in the new EP, have your opinions of the trailers changed? Also, the new dramas are HEAVY, so if you've listened to them, I'm curious to know what you thought of them. As always, thanks for the translations!

I like listening to Hypmic music on shuffle during workouts, so I've most of the new songs in full by now. I don't think my opinions have changed majorly. I really enjoy Black and White, and Move Your Body Till You Die is a phenomenal work of art.

As for the drama tracks... truth be told, I haven't even listened to the one that came out in April, so I'll read through some TLs now and record thoughts below the cut:

"Anti-Party of Words faction" Huh, like a government faction? I'm surprised the PoW allows other political parties or at the very least open dissenters. There was talk in some chapters of the manga of them punishing protesters, not to mention the way they crushed the TDD rebellion in its primacy. Either way, interesting, and I hope we learn more about this as time goes on.

Ichijiku and Nemu baking together is really cute lol

I love the way Ichijiku's whole personality shifts around Otome. Gap moe (????)

It's a cool tidbit that Nemu tends to prefer plainer outfits, as that tracks with how she dresses in TDD. Also, Nemu and Ichijiku shopping together is kind of bittersweet, since Ichijiku is clearly using Nemu as a replacement figure for her deceased sister...

Ichijiku secretly wanting to fall on the cute side of the cute/elegant spectrum is a pretty classic trope but a fun detail that's been hinted at already, since we've seen that she keeps a bow collection.

??? Rei's lab is on Battleship Island? Ohhhhhhhhh this is why Twitter was blowing up with controversy right after this track released... The IRL Battleship Island was home to forced labor of Korean and Chinese citizens during the twentieth-century push of Japanese imperialism which was later, iirc, denied in part or totally by the Japanese government to immense international backlash. Using this as a setpiece for Hypmic is oddly provocative, and I can't think why the writers would want to do that. On a much lighter note, this is also a headscratcher to me because isn't this a UNESCO World Heritage Site? The whole point of that is conservation, and I don't think building a clone lab counts as conservation... Unless they're implying the clone lab was built prior to the 1950s? Hm. Let's not go down this rabbit hole.

"I would like all of the True Hypnosis Mics. As well as all the Amemura clones." Oh? Are there more still alive? I thought Honobono ordered the death of the last remaining three... Well, that scraps a piece of writing I was working on LOL

"Your biometric data is required to access the mic storage facility" So how did the PoW get in?

Her? Heart stop beating? Oh for fuck's sake, is Rei's wife also in a coma? How many fucking characters are in a coma in this series... Whichever mfer invents a device that restores people from comas with no significant brain damage will make a fortune in this universe

"And I won't try anything funny." I do not believe this for one instant

Hmm, the framing of Otome planning this and the way she brushed past talk of countermeasures for the anti-PoW faction implies that Rei is heading this faction.

Oh, so they couldn't get past the biometric locks after all, I see.

I strongly dislike the idea of thirty clones for thirty mics and the nonchalance in which Rei goes, "Yeah, I'll ship them off to Chuuouku" like they're a parcel and not human beings, but that's my personal bone to pick w/ this character and setting.

I was intrigued by the notion of the PoW holding caucuses, implying there's some sort of democratic process in terms of choosing their own party members or positions, but the JPN audio doesn't specify that exactly.

"We no longer require the cooperation of Jakurai Jinguji." I know that this took like four years in real time, but in terms of the Hypmic universe... I mean, Jakurai didn't even do anything for them, did he? He went through all that moral dilemma for nothing, as far as I can tell. (I get that it sets up the reconciliation with Ramuda, but that's it? Seriously?) That's disappointing to roll it back so quickly.

"During the Division Rap Battle, the people of our nation will be focused on the tournament, giving us the opportunity to use the True Hypnosis Mics to mind hack the Anti-Party of Words faction who stand in our way, ultimately pulling them over to our side." Otome always has the most batshit plans. God bless. A consequence of her needing to drive the plot forward is that she'll say some of the truly silliest things I've ever heard. What a complete misappropriation of government funds lol. Also... is this stating there are only 30 dissidents (????), or can the True Hypmics brainwash more than one person at a time?

"Once that is complete, we will move on to other countries. And when we have taken over the world, then, in the true sense of the word, peace through the power of words will be achieved." LMAO? I'm sorry, this isn't very considerate of me, but in my initial impressions of this, I am well and truly gobsmacked. What in the actual fuck. How many clones will die for this? How much money will it cost? How does she think she stands any chance at governing so many people across such an area, even with a downsized population after WWIII? Homie... Never change, Hypmic, you are the wildest.

I can't believe Ichijiku is so whipped she's willing to go along with an absolutely nonsensical plan for world domination. Ma'am, Otome is not going to fuck you, and even if she is, it's not worth it! Ma'am!!! I'm sorry, I'm being petty and not giving this a lot of in-depth thought but LORD this is a trip on first read.

A FUCKING CLONE UPRISING AT THE HANDS OF REI? HAHAHAHAHA.

I'm actually quite interested in how this "mics are disabled forever" thing works. I guess the mics have a kill switch in them? I vaguely recall someone saying that in the manga years and years ago... Oh yeah, it was Ramuda in TDD 12. Huh, interesting if that was intentional foreshadowing (I'm not sure if I want to be that charitable). At any rate, can't everyone in the room just get new mics? Or does it affect their speakers and such too? I'm curious how that works, like if you build an affinity with a certain mic or some nonsense.

"looks like we won't be having any Division Rap Battles from here on out." Ah, and this is why the other half of Twitter was up in arms like "No more DRB??? End of Hypmic??" I guess.

The Block Party tracks are quite long, and since it's getting rather late for me, I'm going to leave off here for the moment. I'd like to continue this at my next available opportunity... WHAT a ride. Not sure when that will be, but I will add to this with a reblog when I can. And I know it's been months since this track came out, but I would love to hear other people's thoughts. I wasn't around much when it first launched, so I missed most of the commentary on it.
