Birth prompt by anonymous
19. In a hospital
long labor
on a bed/stirrups
– with a doctor
+ triplets
+ big babies
ø overdue
ø forced
# baby is breech
# shoulders get stuck
# pushing baby back in
Much screaming, crying, painful birth. Tearing or episiotomy. Fundal pressure, instruments like vacuum or forceps. No c-section or epidural.
Heartless Scorn
Tw: 18+ is not for minors, contains sexual topics.
Months ago, she was artificially inseminated in an attempt to create a perfect human and it has been as afar going smoothly, the surprise was in the ultrasound and seeing triplets.
Humans genetically modified to be used as the next pioneer in science, perfectly modified and will be used in any case as workers, Ceo's and a lot of other things military included.
In present times, she paced through the cell in uneven patterns with her babies growing large and bulky, she experienced so much strain also tiredness at many points in time.
A group of people entered her cell, they locked her into a metal bed as it slants forward and is rolled across the halls with many other subjects.
There was a bright light, it was a hospital area with no one but this group of six people as an expert began to tap the syringe while she's in the middle of the room as the serum is injected.
Her stomach immediately clamps down, she screams loudly with her pulled back the fluid streams down and her bump tightens visibly.
A huge head comes crashing through her canals, it was fast at first with her legs up besides her head as the head crowned it progressed no further, her entrance was tightening around the head to much.
She cried and screamed with each contraction, trying to get it out but it would only inch barely forward as the minutes pass, forty to forty-five the head had finally reached it's peak crown.
The doctors were impatient, they had no time so they're handed forceps as they squeeze it inside and clamp down gently, she squeals loudly and bore down with the adjustment the whole head came spilling out, they grab the head and pulled out the rest of the baby, she shouted in pain.
Each contraction was getting worse, the siblings were both slowly moving down the doctors had their hands pressing down on the top of her full round bump, helping along as thirty minutes go.
They see the head spew out, though they tried to tug it as they to help it out but it wouldn't give way or move, so they pressed down on her much harder, she began to tremble and whine.
She felt each shoulder pop, tearing her open as she spills out with the legs of the third born was swiftly squeezing out, they react and push it all the way back in and rotated the full fetus.
A loud shriek filled the room, she kept bearing down and it forced the crown to spread but with all her strength sapped they used a vaccuum.
Pulling out the head she began to pathetically groan then the final child fell out of her, she'd begin to pass out and fade into the deepest coma, awoken few months later in permanent disabled condition and broken bones.

My submission for Steggy Week 2023 (Day 2 - WIPs & updates)
The Scars That Remain Summary: Even though the serum protected Steve through several world wars, and Peggy is resolved to maintaining a stiff upper lip, some scars can start to heal with time and each other. RATING: R (mature – for slow build / sexual content, angst, comfort). Potential trigger warnings dealing with topics of harm/scars from graphic violence. NOTE: The visibility of Steve’s scars are not brand new as if they were made yesterday. They have faded because of the serum, but I guess I always wondered what Steve’s scars would be like after the Winter Soldier’s shooting in CA:TWS and the last battle against Thanos, where he definitely took a beating. I consider them to be faint but noticeable - Peggy is a spy afterall. Nothing gets past her.
This is only a sneak peek -not the whole fic. Hope to have it fully posted in a week or so (if I can update it at work enough this week)
With her hair up in a net, Steve caught a better look at the bullet wounds on her shoulder. They had been trudging through the endless woods clearing out all of Hydra hiding in and above the tree line. Their adversaries mastered how to be invisible before they even could. Falsworth had given the all clear when the scene was anything but - resulting in an array of gunfire in what felt like from all angles.
“I often don’t know who to thank for how clean those came out,” Peggy murmured.
“Dugan, or how much he picked up from his wife’s hobbies as a seamstress,” Steve quipped, remembering the scene as Peggy was hit in the shoulder. How everyone rallied together sterilizing what they could, the blood that seeped onto the torn rags, and holding her hand as Dugan worked his magic. He kissed her shoulder where the three bullet wounds were as if they hit her yesterday.
Peggy wrestled in her mind, a delicate way to bring it up. “And, what about you?”
“What about me?”
“You have a few speckles on your abdomen,” she uttered, pulling him closer.
He should never underestimate Peggy’s power of perception, and yet he always did. “It was an accident. He wasn’t who he thought he was, who he needed to be, to kill me.”
“Load, aim, fire seems like a pretty conscious choice to make,” Peggy noted, in a soft voice almost like a whisper.
“For him, it wasn’t. He didn’t know what he was doing at the time.”
It was the sharpest intake and slowest exhale Peggy took all day. “The Winter Soldier?”
Steve nodded his head, leaning his on hers. Peggy’s fingers trailed down to the light line on his right thigh, as her other hand wrapped her fingers between his other that still had a considerable jagged white-colored slash near the wrist lightly disrupting the random pattern of freckles around it. She lay patiently in the middle of the history, or future, he didn’t know how to tell it all.

hi i was wondering if you had any skincare product reccomendations, i've never done skincare before and i don't really know where to start. i know i have sensitive and relatively dry skin.
i have a suncream that has spf 50+ which i think is good but do i need a specific one for my face? i apologise for all the questions but any advice would be amazing!
thank you!
💛
Hi darling!
Skincare is a tricky thing, because everybody's skin is different and as such has different needs. What works for one person may not work for another.
Firstly, you should start with my top skincare tips post so you understand the basics, function of ingredients, and which products are essential or not. You can also check out my skincare tag if you're interested in additional reading.
That being said, here are the basics from my routine and what currently works for me:
Tumblr media
Morning routine:
Vitamin C serum: La Roche Posay - Vit C10 This helps brighten complexion, softens skin and helps to fade any blemishes, scars, etc. Pro tip: keep your Vit C serum in the fridge, Vit C tends to oxidize and turn orange with time, even if i doesn't affect its efficiency.
Sunscreen: La Roche Posay - Anthelios for Face SPF50 This is what I've been using for 2 years now, it's popular for good reason. Although I will say they recently changed the formula from completely dry to a little oily, and I prefer the former.
Night routine:
Cleanser: CeraVe - SA Smoothing Cleanser This is a chemical exfoliant (with Salicylic Acid) which is great for acne or break-out prone skin, to be used 2-3 times a week. For daily use I recommend CeraVe's classic cleanser, the Hydrating Cleanser.
Moisturizer: Bioderma - Hydrabio Riche Gentle, moisturizing, rich but not greasy. I always go back to this. (It's for dry skin, but if other readers have oily skin, try the Hydrabio Legere version instead.)
Skin-barrier repair (optional): La Roche Posay - Cicaplast Baume B5 This is a holy grail if you have damaged skin from using too many products, exfoliants, sunburn, etc. It's very gentle and soothing, and really does improve skin overnight. You can use it for face, body, even lips, but for that I prefer the product below.
Skin-barrier repair for lips (optional): La Roche Posay - Cicaplast Baume for Lips This is my go-to for intense hydration and repair (ie. chapped lips, wore drying lipstick all day, etc). Leave it on overnight and you'll wake up with smooth, plush lips ready for the day.
Retinol: The Ordinary - Retinol 0.2% in Squalane, CeraVe - Resurfacing Retinol Serum, La Roche Posay - Effaclar Adapalene 0.1% Topical Retinoid Retinol essentially regenerates your skin, helps with fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, etc. I'm still looking for the best retinol product, but I would recommend either of the above, all of which are direct recommendations I've found by dermatologists via Youtube or IG.
Conclusions
The only essentials you need are: cleanser, sunscreen, moisturizer. Everything else helps, but isn't necessary.
If you choose to add new products to your skincare routine, always add 1 at a time. That way you'll know which one is or isn't working for you.
Create the skincare routine that works for you. Don't go running after trends and trying out a hundred different things. Only test 1 product at a time, and when something works for you, keep it in your routine.
If you can afford it, reach out to a dermatologist to recommend products that are tailored to your needs. Most of the products listed were recommended by my dermatologist for mine.
If that's not an option currently, start following board-certified dermatologists on social media instead of taking advice from random people online as fact. You'll learn so much from their tips, plus it's free! I like watching Dr. Dre and Shereene Idriss, they are both entertaining and educational.
Hope this proves helpful, and let me know how your routine comes together. 💜

Intro and Index
I mainly post about skincare; product reviews, recommendations, tips, etc. I won't link any of my sources - most of the time i write what i remember and my research isn't organized at all. So just trust me bro (do your own research).
I try to make it as beginner friendly as i can by writing definitions, but do tell me if anything's missing or if you have questions. 👍
Search the definition of a term by searching "Def. term" on my blog (the capitalization and the period don't matter).
ex: Def. hyperpigmentation | def hyperpigmentation
I'm (very) slowly getting into makeup so it's possible i could be also posting about that in the future. I also want to get into hair care.
Hope these posts by BTS Suga (i am Suga from BTS) help you.
*I haven't written all my knowledge down yet, so be patient with me.
Currently working on mandelic acid and Topicals Faded Serum for Dark Spots & Discoloration.

Comments and reblogs welcome!
Tech and Valia lay sprawled out on the floor of the Marauder surrounded by books and datapads. Valia’s lessons were progressing well. Their missions were running smoothly, being more on the simple side; so they had plenty of time to study. They laid shoulder to shoulder changing the topics rapidly and excitedly, flitting through different materials for her to read—which of course would get expounded upon until they reverted their digression to the task at hand.
“Very good, Miss Valia, I’d say you read at an unusually high level for the short time you’ve been studying. You should be proud of your progress.”
Valia smiled bright and the sun shone through her eyes.
“Really?”
Tech nodded.
“Indeed.” he smiled a little, seeing her joy at what she learned. Her eagerness was something he’d rather grown used to and he appreciated it.
“And I do believe your father would be proud of you as well.”
Valia swallowed thickly but a sense of peace rested on her. “Thank you, Tech, I have you to thank for that.”
“It was my pleasure.”
A loud snore was heard from Wrecker, napping in the back of the ship.
“Some care more about learning than others and it is relieving to share enthusiasm about a topic.”
Valia giggled. “But you love them just the way they are.”
“Quite true, I would not change who my brothers are.”
And so the days went forward. On a similar such day, Valia quietly hummed to herself while mulling over her latest lesson.
“Tech?” Valia kept her voice guarded and cautious, daring to break the pleasant quiet. She wasn’t sure how he was going to take her proposition. “Have you…ever wanted to make something that would make a difference?”
Tech paused. “I suppose that would depend on your definition of ‘making a difference’. All inventions make a difference in at least one individual’s life. The inventor himself is affected; if the inventor was commissioned by a person, that person is affected. If the inventor is commissioned by a company that mass produces it for the galaxy at large—”
“Well what I mean is, would make a difference in your life.” Valia broke him off, speaking quickly. Her breathing was heavy and nervous. “What if you could make something that would benefit your lifespan?”
Her eyes started to shift back and forth, the wheels turning in her head.
“We could perhaps make a serum. Something to affect the DNA in your blood and counteract the aging agency. Maybe we could invent something so you can live your full life. You and your brothers, Tech!”
Valia started to feel excited and the more she talked, the faster her words came out. And Tech let her talk. Something inside his chest squeezed, a frown and smile pulling at his lips. He couldn’t decide which emotion was appropriate. One one hand, he understood the why of her idea, but perhaps she didn’t understand the why of their aging in the first place.
“You and your brothers deserve the galaxy, Tech. I bet with both of our ingenuity, we could do it. I bet we could succeed! You deserve to live a full life. You’ve already had your childhood stolen. Could I give you some extra time to be happy in this life?”
“It would be an interesting idea…” Valia could see his eyes start to shift with curiosity on whether and how it could be done but her smile was slightly faded by his following words. “But we were engineered to live shorter lives because our service is for the war. What comes of us after, we haven’t been trained to think about or consider. Seeing as how dying in the field is more likely, the accelerated aging isn’t a problem for most clones.”
“But,” he continued, shrugging off his heavier comment, “seeing as how my brothers and I are enhanced, we have a better likelihood of surviving the war. Creating a serum for normal aging, as you put it, would be beneficial.”
Valia looked sheepish and stammered.
“We, uh, we–” she bit her lip.
“What is the problem?”
Fear gripped Valia like a vise. She realized the good things of the suggestion but forgot the bad. Now uncertainty shook her. Would Tech still want to do this?
“We’d need blood samples to work with, Tech.” Her voice was dry. She tried to swallow but her throat felt like gravel.
“Of course we would.” Tech blinked. “That is unquestionable.”
“I didn’t want to suggest that part of it…I’m sorry, I didn’t mean; ugh.” Valia’s face scrunched up and a dark look settled on her brow.
Tech raised an eyebrow. “What are you talking about?”
She was silent and trailed her eyes to anything else but him. Absent-mindedly, Valia started to grab at her hands again.
“Ugh! But I don’t want to treat you all as an experiment! I want to help you out but you’ve had enough of people poking you and taking things from you! How is this any different?”
Valia sat up and aggressively started picking at the dirt in her nails.
“Perhaps I didn’t think thoroughly before suggesting the idea. I’m so sorry.”
“The thought of being an experiment didn’t cross my mind. It sort of did, but if I’m in control of my own experiment and what happens for the greater good, there is no correlation to the negative associations that are in your mind. You are thinking of Echo’s situation, correct?”
Valia nodded solemnly, not looking up.
“This is quite different from that. I would be your science partner and would be partially in control. I would be the subject of experimentation as well as the scientist behind it, not merely a specimen of interest. I think undergoing the experiment is a good idea.”
“You do?”
“Yes, it is a wonder I didn’t think of it before. Shall we put our studies away and begin our research?”
“Yes!” Valia scooped up the materials in one swift moment and bounded down the hallway, a fullness in her step. She was on a mission—for once, one she knew she’d be proud of.
— — —
“Are all the components separated?” Valia squinted her eyes at the screen trying to decipher the image before her. “This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen! You are very unique.” Valia smiled at Tech brightly. They’d been working on this project for about a week and she enjoyed every minute of it. They had made great progress and Valia felt hopeful they could succeed at this.
Every spare minute that wasn’t devoted to a task was spent on “Project Life”. If the Batch thought Valia and Tech spent a lot of time together before, they were wrong. Valia would help Tech accomplish a task so they could more quickly return to their novelty science project. The pair became inseparable. The only times they separated were night watching, sleeping and eating with the rest of the squad.
Wrecker took the laughing and sciency fun as a good sign his prediction was coming true. To be honest, the squad shared the sentiment, hoping he was right. Valia fit right in with their squad and they enjoyed having her around. The jocularity of it was, everyone else seemed to be aware of what was in the air except those two.
“Yes, I obtained a sample of blood from Echo as well. I thought it might do well to have a reg’s blood in comparison to mine; I was uncertain of any unpredicted variables we should look for. Both separated images are here.”
Tech adjusted his goggles and pointed to the screen. “Now that all these components are individualized, I suggest we start breaking them down and identifying them. I’ll fetch my microscopic visualizer.”
“You think of everything, don’t you, Tech?” Valia chuckled.
“Indeed, I have worked hard to do so.”
Valia looked down with a blush. “This is why I love you, Tech.”
Although she said it in a hushed whisper, Tech heard it. He watched as she continued to fiddle with the object in her hands. She was beautiful, the way the light from the screens hit her hair, illuminating the gold with blues and reds and greens. Her smile was so different than he’d ever seen it.
He understood the truth of her words.
This was no passing phrase. She was speaking from the heart. Fear gripped him. Uncertainty. Anger. Guilt.
She loved him.
Had he tricked her into feeling this way for him? Did she feel like she had to because they worked so closely for so long? Was he giving her the wrong impression? What even was the right impression?
A cold feeling crept down his throat into his chest.
“Miss Valia, something rather urgent came up. You will have to proceed without me.”
Dropping the tool by her side, he made his escape to the cockpit, missing the look of hurt and confusion he left behind.
— — —
After a few days of Tech’s not so subtle form of ignoring or being short and snippy with her, Valia decided to finally talk to someone. Her first choice would have been her dad, but he wasn’t here. Her next choice was Echo….but something didn’t sit right there. Echo was really close to Tech. It almost felt as if she was intruding on their tight brotherly bond. Making him choose between the two of them. She didn’t want to do that to either of them. Wouldn’t be fair. Plus, why should he choose her?
She needed someone a little more impartial, or rather used to taking both sides fairly, someone in authority…someone like her dad…
“Hunter, does Tech have a problem with me? He’s been acting really strange lately. I think I hurt him and I don’t know what I did or what to do about it.”
Valia threw herself in the copilot’s chair next to Hunter on one of his late night watches. It was the only time she knew they wouldn’t be interrupted or bothered by possible eavesdropping. She could sense him looking at her with compassion but she wouldn’t meet his gaze, electing instead to pick at her fingernails or the mesmerizing blue of hyperspace.
“Why don’t you talk to him?”
“He won’t talk to me! When I try, I seem to annoy him and make it worse.” She threw her hands up annoyed, letting the frustration she bottled up to come out. She hoped Hunter wouldn’t take offense. He didn’t seem to. Instead, he sighed a full sigh, one of resignation and a hint of frustration himself, but it wasn’t aimed at her.
“Valia, it’s not you. This has to do with him. Tech just doesn’t believe he’s lovable.” Hunter sighed. “I’m not saying that he does or doesn’t care about you in the way you want.” Her cheeks started to burn but she listened silently. Hunter was right, why deny it?
“I’m not trying to meddle, give or take away your hope about it. I just wanted you to understand that Tech is dealing with something right now. I don’t want either of you getting hurt, but I can’t deny that you both mean a great deal to each other, in what way I don’t know. That's for the two of you to figure out. But I’ll be here for you both through this and help you out where I can.”
“Thanks, Hunter. But I don’t want to put you in the middle of anything.”
“You aren’t. It is part of my job as leader to be in the middle sometimes, but not always fixing from the middle. You’re part of my squad. Don’t feel like you have to hide anything. We’ll figure something out as a team. These things are new to Tech so he doesn’t know how to process them or feel about them. You need to give him space but not confronting the problem at all will be bad in the long run. You will eventually have to talk about this.”
“Well then, challenge accepted.”
— — —
The next morning, Tech sat alone in the cockpit, piloting the ship to the Batch’s new destination. The new normal would have found a talkative ball of sunshine next to him but considering the past few days, he knew why it was empty. And right now, he preferred that.
He heard the shuffling of feet, turning halfway around to find Hunter. Unbeknownst to Tech, Hunter followed the example of the ghost that haunted him only the night before and sat in the co-pilot’s chair.
“Hey Tech, can we have a talk?”
“Of course, Hunter. What seems to be the problem?”
Hunter started cautiously, as if one false step would send him through the ice.
“I can’t help but notice the atmosphere on the ship seems…off.”
“Hm, I’ll have to look at the dampeners…”
“That’s not what I mean, Tech.” Hunter quickly interrupted, “I mean, I can sense the uneasiness that is floating around you and Valia in particular. Did something happen? Want to talk about it?”
Tech’s cheeks flushed and he kept his gaze straight out the viewport.
“She admitted rather accidentally that she loved me.”
“And that’s bad because…?”
“Take a look at me, Hunter!”
Tech stood suddenly and violently hit the autopilot button. Starting to pace back and forth with excited hand motions, he continued:
“I am not what females are attracted to, nor what they want. I am well aware I do not have Wrecker’s physique, nor do I have Crosshair’s wit, Echo’s kindness, nor do I have stunning looks as yourself—”
“Tech, don't sell yourself short! You have qualities we don’t—”
“—Not everyone has my genius, this I know, but I am constantly reminded of how dull it is. More times than not, I am told to stop, not keep going.”
“Valia loves listening to you.”
“We are the same. How exciting is that? She already knows what I will say because her brain has come to a similar conclusion. I will no longer be interesting after a short while. She has little experience of the world. After she meets more people, my value will lessen. I swept her off her feet, rather literally and unintentionally. When the romantic idea she has created of me runs out and fades, all that will be left is reality. She has not experienced life. I’m all she knows. Valia was trapped underground for years. After she gets to know real men, she won’t want me. I’m a clone of a man for kriffs sake. I do not deal well with emotions as it is. To allow myself into such a blatant trap would be foolish.”
Exhausted at his rather out of character burst, he sunk back into his chair, rubbing circles on his forehead and pressed the bridge of his nose to alleviate the pressure.
“Tech, you have a chance to be with someone who cares a great deal about you. Why not fight for it? How do you feel about her?”
“Hunter, I’m not what she thinks I am. I can’t give her what she wants.”
“Why not? Tech, I know you better than anyone else; it sounds more like ‘won’t’ than ‘can’t’. Are you just afraid of it? Or you don’t want her? If you are not interested in her, I don’t want to push you, but I think you are. Are you?”
Tech sighed.
“Tech, look at how Crosshair and ‘Phina turned out. You have a chance, don’t make the mistakes Cross did.”
“Then why don’t you say something to Leyla?”
“That is totally different.”
“How so?”
“She’s our general for one. She’s a jedi for seconds. And thirdly…”
“Alright, so what?”
Hunter sighed and looked down for a brief moment before meeting his brother’s eyes again, this time with a hint of something Tech couldn’t quite discern.
“Valia isn’t a jedi, and she does return your feelings. You actually have the possibility of a future. Don’t waste it.”
“What if I don’t want it?”
“Then you have to be honest with her and tell her you don’t have feelings for her and don’t destroy her by playing with her and giving her hope. I can always transfer her…”
“No!”
Hunter grinned. “So you do care. Why don’t you want her going anywhere else?”
Tech stumbled and stuttered.
“It simply wouldn’t be fair to her to feel she was sent away because of me. She would blame herself and wonder what she did to offend us. We’ll work it out.”
“You’d better. And don’t do anything stupid.”
“If you are meaning ‘stupid’ by letting her go, then I believe I may be acting unintelligently.” Tech sighed and trudged toward the door, heavy in step, more slouched over than normal. His lips turned into a sad scowl, a sorrow swimming in the depths of his eyes.
When Tech reached the door, he pushed his goggles further onto his face and turned to face Hunter one more time.
“I just don’t want to eventually become the inevitable disappointment. A small heartache on her part now will save us both heartaches and embarrassment in the long run.”
“Why don’t you talk to her about all this, about what she wants? First, you should really figure out what you want. Don’t rush this decision, Tech. Take some time. And all those thoughts about yourself simply aren’t true. Please.”
“I’ll take time to consider, as you wish, Hunter. Though I doubt I’ll change my mind.”

I would like to know more about your pathetic man...
This guy.
Mana'ah is a very odd man due to his upbringing. He grew up alone with his landshark lusus fore nearly 100 sweeps and was essentially feral. Though he's been socialized for quite sometimes, some tendencies don't fade. This carries over to his view of the world and hierarchies, in that he sees highblood women and more violent trolls as the 'alphas' and calls them as such, often turning over onto his back in a fear display and begging for mercy especially if he can pick up that the woman is particularly violent. He can tell this based on vibes and also he can smell the blood on someone even if they think they've cleansed themselves. Other things is that he's not good with social cues or socially acceptable things to say, so he can often talk about inappropriate topics at inappropriate times, and he cannot hold secrets to save his life. He is also a cannibal with an insatiable appetite, that he manages with medication. The medication does have the added effect of calming him immensely, which is why he always sounds/looks tired. This is not to say he is aloof, though; he has very keen senses. If he goes off his meds, he becomes much more talkative and wheezes, and is more likely to start trying to eat his patients alive. Other than that, he's actually extremely smart. He was able to get into school through the help of his friend and passed all of his exams with flying colors. He is an excellent surgeon despite his lack of street and social smarts, and has even devised serums for use in the fleet. He's pathetic specifically towards trolls that are a higher caste than him and women of higher castes in particular in that if he likes someone he will literally whine about it and be on his knees, rubbing his face on their thigh and tell them how much he wants to please them and be a good 'mate'. He will mention how he's weaker than them and how he doesn't deserve them, how much he wants to learn how to be good enough for them etc. If he disappoints someone he likes he'll whine about it and be like 'Alpha.. I'm so sorry... please gut me if you like....if it pleases you..' smh He might even cry about it.

Skincare routine?? I know some of it, but I want all the deets
To be fair it's not really interesting. It's more a very long and convoluted story haha, but I'll be brief¹ ish².
TL,DR: acne + sensitive skin is a fun combo, and less is more, imo.
I was wrong.
Very wrong.
I've always had sensitive skin, but adult/cystic acne hit me hard after I changed my birth control in the second half of my 20s. Most acne products I tried were too harsh on my skin - I've reacted badly even to "sensitive" products and had to run back to the makeup shop after ten minutes for a wipe to remove whatever it was I'd tried and still ended up with a layer or two of skin burnt off and bumps all over my face for a few weeks - so while the benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid etc may have worked for others, for me they just destroyed my moisture barrier and left me with acne AND extremely irritated skin -> worse acne than I had to begin with.
After a year, I went to a dermatologist - cystic acne isn't just a knock to your self esteem, it can actually hurt - and the topical clindamycin helped a bit, but it wasn't enough. The oral antibiotics I was prescribed just made me vomit (hooray, new-found allergy) and the differin gel made me peel like crazy, as we've established my skin had no moisture barrier left.
Eventually, after maybe another year, I tried one of those online prescription delivery services for skin concerns, because I was desperate and figured why the fuck not? I couldn't even wear scarves in winter because they hurt the cysts, and I couldn't cover the acne with makeup, because it just highlighted everything and made my face look ten times worse. I'd tried everything else, nothing worked, and I was miserable.
The prescription worked.
Honestly I cried at one point, I was so relieved. When you have awful cystic acne, you feel gross (or I did, anyway), as if you are being judged for a lack of hygiene when you probably put more effort into keeping your skin clean than most people out there. 😅 It took a wee bit over 6 months, but it eventually cleared up by about 90% (the last 10% healed as the scarring and red marks etc faded). Obviously cystic acne is far from the worst thing out there, but it's still not fun, and some of the looks and questions from strangers - "have you tried drinking ACV?!" - get old quickly.
So, what worked for me back then?
A super duper gentle face wash, no exfoliants or anything else fancy.
The cream I was prescribed was really gentle, too, with small doses of clindamycin, azelaic acid and zinc pyrithione. Once a day.
A light moisturiser over summer, with SPF, or a richer moisturiser over winter, also with SPF.
What works for me now, a few years later?
I still use a gentle face wash - 'La Roche Posay hydrating gentle cleanser' - once a day (or twice if I'm wearing makeup). If not, I use a microfiber towel and water to wash my face before bed. As much as I'd love to steam myself in the shower, too much washing irritates my face in the long run.
I tried a slightly different formulation from the same prescription service for 6 months, with retinol instead, but I was always slightly peeling, my skin never got used to it, so I'm back on the original formula, once a day, and my skin is still clear barring the occasional hormonal pimple.
Over winter I'll add in a serum to boost the hyaluronic acid, because I get very dry very quickly. I really like the 'Intraceuticals' brand, though they aren't cheap, but one bottle lasts me 6 ish months, so it's not awful and I'm happy to splurge.
Currently liking 'The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors + HA' over summer, or 'Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre' for winter.
Neither of those moisturisers have SPF, so I use IT Cosmetics CC cream with SPF 50+ for the day and/or Bare Minerals SPF 25 year round, because when you grow up in Australia you learn not to fuck with sun exposure. If I need a normal/untinted sunblock for my face, 'Cancer Council' brand for sensitive skin is good (and I use their regular mineral sunblock for the rest of my body, too). If I'm going out at night, I use a Charlotte Tilbury foundation, which doesn't have any SPF but I still love it. I've been okay with other mineral sunblocks, but some of them leave a white cast even on my pale skin, which isn't ideal.
I tried 'Dr Dennis Gross's Alpha Beta Exfoliating Body Treatment' wipes - I think we spoke about them a while back? 😅 - and they're good! A bit pricey, but luckily I don't need to use them constantly. Still, bacne sucks over summer.
It's not skincare, but skincare adjacent: in terms of makeup, I don't wear a lot, but I like Glossier (mascara, brows and blush cream), Charlotte Tilbury (foundation, eye shadow, blush powder, bronzer, mascara and lippy), Bare Minerals (mineral veil finishing powder and eye shadow), Stila (colour correcting primer and eyeliner). And paw paw balm for lips, of course lol. I tend not to be all that adventurous once I've found something that works, for obvious reasons.
So basically, I do the following:
AM
Wash/cleanse
+ HA serum in winter
Moisturiser + sunblock (then maybe makeup)
PM
Wash/cleanse
Prescription cream, + HA serum in winter
Moisturiser only
So yeah, no 27 step beauty regimen for me, because firstly I can't be arsed, and secondly, chances are I'd react to something and spend a month babying my skin back to baseline. I'd love to be one of those people who can use all natural skincare or try almost anything once, but unfortunately it never works.
Stay tuned for me spending my time and money figuring out how to fight the inevitable fine lines and wrinkles without retinol. 😂
Weirdly specific asks.

Hey nova, since quarantine started, my skin got bad and I started to have acne. It really took almost 3 years to get rid of it by taking medication and using products. But now I’m stuck with acne scars. I was wondering if your anon friends could help me out and recommend products I can use. If not that’s no problem at all, thank you anyways 💖
personally, vitamin c serum has been helping me a lot with my scars. your best bet is also getting a product with azelaic acid and niacinamide like topicals faded serum
Tumblr media
i personally haven’t tried that one but a lot of people swear by it.
if there are anons who can help, send in!

Hey, girl 🌻 since you know a lot about skin care, can you help me recommending some products to erase the acne red marks/scars, please? 🥺 I'm even considering just buying concealer to cover them because I have no idea what to do. Thank you 💝
Hii 🌟
for acne marks sunscreen is super important, it doesnt matter what you use if youre not protecting your skin from the sun since the sun will just increase the melanin production and we dont want that
using brightening ingredients like vitamin c,retinoids or tranexamic acid, alpha arbutin and azelaic acid also helps fade the marks faster, i havent tried these myself but theyre really popular - topicals faded serum, axis y dark spot correcting glow serum.
geek and gorgeous has both affordable vitamin c serum and retinoids, theres also hada labo shirojyun lotion(its a toner in japan they use the word lotion to refer to toners) that uses both tranexamic acid and vitamin c, sacheu beauty has a lactic acid toner with tranexamic acid, make prem came out with a vitamin c serum recently as well i believe, if your budget allows is the two best vitamin c serums on the market are the ones from skinceuticals and allies of skin, byoma also has an affordable serum for brigtening the skin
healing the skin barrier is also important so make sure youre moisturizing your skin and not over exfoliating it.
if youre going to use alpha arbutin this is important, only use it temporarily, long term use of it apparently can damage the skin so imo if i was you, i would stick to safer ingredients like the others i mentioned.

not a derm or anything this is just kinda my experience and knowledge i’ve gained thru research! ever since i turned 19/20 i started to break out so badly. it was. horrible and it made me so insecure. I tried so many products but it just didn’t work for my skin. recently i’ve had to turn to medical grade prescription products. The only prob is that it takes my acne away BUT it does nothing for my dark spots. I’ve been able to fade them with the following products:
• the ordinary azeliac acid
• cerave vitamin c serum
• topicals fade cream
• a good sunscreen
All these products in combo (some i wear during the day and some at night) have really helped with dark spots! They’re also friendly for ALL skin types and especially for women of color!
Y’all gonna make me cry 😭🤍
I thank you all for putting me on to all of the products you use definitely gonna research them all and buy a few 🤍

miss hannah im gonna pretend that you’re an eldest sister and ask for advice: what do you do for your hygiene/maintenance/self-care routine?
thank u for pretending with me bae <3 these are some of the things i can think of at the top of my head!!! real eldest sisters pls feel free to add to this!!!
personally i tend to bulk up on shower products and skincare products that are already tried and tested!! i buy the biggest size for my shampoo and conditioner (shiseido tsubaki and premium; i buy the refill packs n just put it in a pump bottle), body wash (dove or olay), and moisturizer (cerave) !!!
be consistent w flossing and oil pulling!!
ur all probably sick of me talking about skincare but i’ll make it brief: pls get the topicals faded serum!!
im finally gonna try laser hair removal at around september this year but since at the start of the pandemic and up to now until i get laser, i’ve been waxing myself!!! hot wax > cold wax... hot wax is much much better
this doesn’t work for everyone but it’s much better to pop a pimple with a head than to wait for it to manifest into an even bigger pimple!! just poke it with a needle to make it bleed, and the eventual pimple scar will heal much faster
brain is empty atm pls tell me if u wanna ask more from ur fake eldest sister aka me

First Understanding My Skin
Skin for me has always been a blessing and a curse. The best skin I have ever had was in high school, I have had my troubles with acne like a regular 16-year-old but other than that I have had really clear skin. At the age of 24 I have had more complications with my skin than ever.
I guess being a teenager aided in my skin since I was only, but it was not something that was out of control. Using a simple face wash would help all my problems go away but not anymore. I can not even pop a pimple on my face now without the fear of it causing a scar. My skin moved over to being less oily and more prone to dryness which in my turn caused more scarring. Right now, I want to get my skin back to the normal phase it was in but with a lot more care and products.
How Will I Treat It?
Within the next six months I am going to treat my skin with the same products to see if these hyped-up items from TikTok and Instagram can really make a difference in the dryness and hyperpigmentation I have. I will be using an array of different products from different brands to see they are really living up to their names and what they claim to achieve. These are the names of the brands I will be using in this experiment, and I will talk about how I will use them.
Faded Topicals
The Ordinary
Good Molecules
The Body Shop
The Inkey List
Tatcha
Supergoop
Murad
What Will Be My Skincare Routine?
These are my five steps to the routine I will follow every day.
I will first start off my routine by using a cleanser. I will be cleaning my face with The Body Shop’s tea tree facial wash. It claims to be a purifying facial wash that will help me with my blemished skin and get rid of the grim and buildup on my face.
After this I will go in with The Ordinary’s toner to help me exfoliate my skin and improve the texture of my skin. It claims that the Tasmanian Pepperberry, ginseng root, and aloe would give me the radiance that I want while soothing the dryness of my skin. The main ingredient in this would be the glycolic acid which will also aid in reducing irritation on the skin.
The third step to this will be my serums. I will start off with the lightest to the heaviest serums. Starting off I will apply the discoloration correcting serum by Good Molecules. They claim to help me improve the unevenness of my skin tone. With the star ingredients being tranexamic acid and niacinamide, they state that this will help with even old age spots, acne scare and hyperpigmentation. Next, I will apply my alpha arbutin serum by The Inkey List, to help me also get rid of the dark spots while giving me the moisture I need back into my skin. The main ingredients are the alpha arbutin and squalene. The last product I am going to apply will be the Faded Topicals, brightening and clearing serum. This claims to also aid in my destruction of the stubborn dark marks on my face. They claim to brighten and revive my tired skin while also helping me balance my skin tone.
After letting these products dry into my skin, I will move on to the moisturizing cream side of this routine. I will go in with the Murad’s hydro-dynamic ultimate moisture eye cream. They claim to help quench my eye area so that way when I turn 75, I have the eyes of a 24-year-old still. Their main ingredients include hyaluronic acid and algae to seal in the moisture and help me stay smooth. The last moisturizer I will use will be the Tatcha dewy skin cream. They state that this will help to replenish and plump my skin for a healthy glow. Their main ingredient in this cream is Japanese purple rice which they state is ideal for dry skin types.
The last and final step of this routine will be to apply sunscreen. I will only this product in the daytime as I don’t want to have clogged pores in the morning and have my whole skincare routine go down the drain. I will use Supergoop as they are a very good brand for darker skin tones, and they claim to be a scentless sunscreen that is a total game changer with it having 40 spf. Their main ingredients are going to be Frankincense and Meadowfoam which will help with a soothing effect and hydration and even skin texture.
All throughout this journey to the perfect skin I will take note of my pros and cons and what I would and would not do again. Hopefully this will lead me into a holy grail of a routine and not a total madness.
