Before

I get the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the kingdom game, I'm gonna write down a tiny list of what I've learned so far through the internet (which hasn't been a lot since I try my goddamn hardest to not get massivly spoiled at every turn)

he lives right beneath hyrule castel I think??

zelda has short hair now

theres combined/fused enemies now?? (talus + fort of bokoblins)

there's mini dragons??? looks like somthing from how to train your dragon

theres a form of ancient sky city

link has new shieka slate powers

YOU CAN BUILD CARS AND SHIT????

yuubon has a beard now - what

uuuh no more mastersword I think??

Tulin might be part of the fighting team now?? (not safe, who let him in????)

Ganon might get a human form, like a proper non-dehydrated one

Goron city has become kind of capitalistic?? (got word through a shitpost so gonna take that with a grain of salt)

Uh yeah, that's kind of it for now (hopefully, this is already too much spoiled for me)

Very happy that the story hasn't been spoiled tho, I have no clue what I'm suppoused to do in totk tbh, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Well I could never see what people were talking about because if the youtube compression and stuff so I was like are y'all on drugs what do you see but this is my first time seeing this screenshot in good quality and

Week 1 impressions of TotK

(No spoilers)

It feels...... Overtunned.

Like combat is punishing, not quite hard I don't think, but very very very punishing. I have about 10 hearts now and 20 armor score total and I'm still getting one shot by quite a few things if I go in swinging.

But the window for things like flurry rush and deflection has been pretty substantially increased. And the game keeps throwing stuff to make fire, ice, lightning, smoke, confusion, all kinds of crazy stuff at me. It very very clearly wants me to be using all the tools in the kit to make combat easier.

I can tell that once I fall into the groove the game wants me to be in I'll have a wonderful time, but anytime I stray outside of that groove and try to brute force my way through a problem the game decides to wear my skin as a new suit.

Which is..... Fine? I guess? I think it's going to turn a lot of people off. And I think it's much much much worse for new players to start on that BotW. The game clearly wants me to be doing stuff in a particular way, and it's very clearly designed to meat grinder you out of your BotW habits. But it feels very very unforgiving about that.

I guess to summarize my feelings so far I'd say it feels like that game world or book or story or other creative project that you have spent so much time and effort and blood and tears on, that it's now almost difficult for others to understand. It's the project you needed to stop working on about 6 months or a year before you did. It's a good game that has been so tightly wound that it's going to have some people bounce off it.

#totk #totk no spoilers #legend of zelda #i might have used the correct spelling of wound #or not. its entirely unclear #honestly im enjoying the game #but it's definitely too difficult for most people #i know for a fact my wife is going to bounce off it like rubber #which sucks because BotW is probably his favorite or second favorite game #but this is just needlessly punishing on the base difficulty #ill be interested to see if they lower damage in any of the patches m #ive already seen scores and scores of other people posting that its 'too hard'#i dont know if I'd say its 'too hard' but i would say its unenjoyably punishing #like they really really wanted to push you #to do stuff the way they wanted #but it's def too much stick #not enough carrot #about those gameplay incentives #and they have applied that to everything #dont read npc dialogue?#cool #have fun never finding a single fairy fountain #tear off right after being given the ability to leave the sky island?#have fun never getting the paraglider!#hell ive been playing for about 10 hours now #and I'm going to have to look up where hestu is #i have like 70 korok seeds and no idea #where that maracas weilding fuck is #its just stuff like that

Aaaaaa totk is so so close I'm vibrating up the ✨walls✨

I literally didn't manage to watch the final trailer/gameplay because I saw the tents in hyrule castle square and got so excited I had to quit the video, which I NEVER do.

It's so CLOSE and I'm getting a physical copy (wasn't allowed a preorder boo) but I'm not sure when it'll come which just adds to the tension!

I can't WAIT I am so SO close to getting totk in my hands I am going to scream when I load up the title screen I just know it XD.

And the fanfics?? I'm on tenterhooks waiting to see what we got right, all our little post canon fics and our ten years later and our soft epilogues, my love and our political fics, and our totk projections, what gets to be made canon and how deep we go down the line - I don't even know how big of a time skip it's been and NOBODY TELL ME.

But I've never been part of a community AS the source is still growing, especially not one I've written and read so many fics for, imagined so much for. I saw those tents and my little fanfic heart exploded because how many times have I seen them in writing?? And now they're IN CANON?? IN THE GAME?? Gosh, it's like our fics and art have all become true and real, it's canon, it's a 3d world we'll be able to run around in and climb and talk to the people about.

Zelda!!!! I don't know what happened to her still (AGAIN DO NOT TELL) and I know her powers have greatly weakened so I hope we get to see her sciencing her little heart out. Maybe not with the guardians they're probably a sore point but she might get into idk history or architecture or wassit called the study of plants with her silent princesses. Ooh maybe she side hustles as a priestess or smth.

I can't WAIT to see tarrey town, and all the capitals flourishing now the divine beasts and malice is gone. I hope we get a champions statue - of either generation, really. Oh the RANCH I hope so dearly the ranch is being repaired and has cows and horses in it again I'd cry if that happened.

The plateau is probably going up I can't remember the details of the trailers but Hylia PLEASE have some new dialogue I can't have the same 'now go and bring peace to hyrule' MA'AM I DID THAT AND NOW THERE'S ANOTHER PROBLEM.

Fi? Fi? Fi? Fi? Fi? Fi???? Anything we get of Fi will be brilliant. And hestu. And honestly I wouldn't be surprised if beedle had macyvered something like the ss flying shop to get around. And oh, the DRAGONS I so hope we can ride them somehow even if it's just in their tailwind. They're going to be BEAUTIFUL.

And the linked universe fics are going to be INSANE whoever writes a wild reveal/chain explores new hyrule, complete with archaeological commentary, I will kiss you on the mouth. Fr the lu fics are probably going to be one of my favourite parts of the release, we were already going feral with our ideas and stories when totk wasn't even a whisper in the wind, and then the first trailer I saw fics with an entirely underground hyrule and then the flying island trailer we went BESERK and when the game comes out?? I'm checking back in a week and I bet there's already a 50k fic waiting. I know I'm going to be scribbling furiously.

I'm going to have to clear out my switch gallery, won't I? Aaaaargh.
