Previous Chapter
Whilst being manhandled by the minutemen and dragged through the TVA, Loki couldn’t stop himself from staring at her. She had y/s walk, her hair, her face, her eyes, her smile, her laugh, it was y/n except this y/n didn’t have that look of unconditional love in her eyes whenever she’d catch Loki’s vision.
“Send him to processing and we’ll meet him in the courtroom” y/n said to the minute men whilst walking past Loki
“Y/N” he whispered watching her walk away.
Walking into the courtroom, Y/N and Mobius were greeted by an annoyed Renslayer watching Loki try and demonstrate his magic to no avail. Y/N laughed watching Loki embarrassing himself. He reminded her of someone.
“Loki Laufeyson I sentence you to—”
“He’s a Loki?” y/n whispered to Mobius
“Yes”
Jumping up, y/n started walking towards Loki and Renslayer. Loki watched her as she marched towards him.
“Judge Renslayer, if I may interject. This vari— Loki might be able to help me and Mobius with the case we’re working on”
“Might?”
“He will help, he could be of great use”
Glancing up in Mobius’s direction, Renslayer was met with a wide smile.
“Fine”
“Thank you” y/n beamed before dropping her smile to turn to Loki.
“Come on” she ordered turning around.
Without another word, Loki was trailing behind y/n. When he tried to open his mouth to speak, he was met with a death glare from her.
“Please just silence for now ok” she said putting her fingers to her temples
“Are you taking me somewhere to kill me”
“Kill you?”
“No” Mobius interrupted following the pair
“I’m taking you somewhere to see your file” he said
“Oh”
“We’ll, as much fun as that sounds, I’m heading to the library so I’ll see you two later. Oh and Loki”
“Yes”
“Stay out of trouble” she said giving a slight smile
Before Loki had time to return the gesture, y/n had already turned around and was leaving.
Once in the room with Mobius, as promised, Loki was shown his file. He saw his childhood with y/n. He watched himself place the flower in y/n’s hair. He watched the mischief they used to get up to. He watched them fall in love and grow older together. He watched when they—
“Um, maybe we could skip past this bit” Loki said embarrassed by what was on the screen
“It’s just two people making love”
“It isn’t just two people it’s me and— just skip it”
He watched as she tended to him after coming back from battle. He watched the conversation they had about what he would do if y/n met her end before him.
“I’d simply perish. I couldn’t live in a world without you in it. I’d fall at your feet and join you in Valhalla. We’d walk the valley of death hand in hand knowing we’d lived a wonderful, victorious full life.”
Listening to himself say these words to y/n, Loki could no longer keep the tears in as he stared at the screen in awe.
“Why doesn’t she remember me?” Loki asked quietly trying to hide his broken voice
“She doesn’t know you Loki. The y/n that is here, she is a variant of your y/n. Some of the people who work here are variants who were spared just like you were in the hopes that they’d work for the TVA”
“Oh” he replied flatly
Focusing his attention back to the screen, Loki watched as he fell from the Rainbow Bridge and landed in the clutches of the mad Titan. He watched as he was tormented, broken and put back together in order to do Thanos’s bidding. He watched as he destroyed New York and he closed his eyes when he saw y/n’s lifeless body in his arms.
“No more. Please I do not wish to know” Loki begged
“I can’t force you to watch the rest of your file if you don’t want to”
“It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that- if I see it, it makes it fixed. If I do not know, perhaps I can change it.”
Loki and Mobius continued their conversation. Loki tried to keep Mobius talking, he didn’t want to go to the library, he couldn’t face y/n. Every time he’d look at this y/n, he’d feel himself going dizzy recalling all the things that he and his y/n went through together. His eyes would widen with hope all for it to be ripped away by her returned look of emptiness. What had happened to this y/n to make her so cold? He thought.
“If it’s any consolation, the thing that landed you here in the TVA, your nexus event if you like, was the fact that you took y/n’s life”
“Thanks for the reminder” Loki scoffed trying to stop himself from crying again
“It means that it wasn’t supposed to happen. It means that there could be an infinite amount of you out there who are with their y/n”
“And what, I’m just cursed? Why me?”
“I don’t know Loki, but for whatever reason, it’s landed you here and we need your help”
“My help?”
“Y/N and I are currently tracking down a variant”
Loki’s eyes snapped up at hearing y/n’s name
“Why do you need me?”
“We believe that the variant we are hunting is you”
“Great”
