Non-vegans often defend their choices by saying that they eat "local meat".

Not even taking into account that plant-based foods are still much more environmentally friendly, they think they're in the best place to be a farmed animal. That all that horrible footage they don't want to see is taken somewhere else, far away. That the actually polluting parts of the process are only applicable to some foreign countries they probably couldn't name on a map.

It's not like that at all.

This animal abuse is happening here and now, all around the world. And most of the time they have the ability to make choices that affect the world around them every day.

one of my favorite character tropes is when a character is so unbelievably lonely and this is symbolized by how heavily associated with animals they are

because if no one’s around to love you, your dog will always love you. if no one’s around to care, at least you have your cat, right? or the wild animal that always stops in your yard and let’s you feed it. maybe none of your friends (if you have any) really care; but you’ve always been good with animals, and animals love you no matter what

so what do you do when your dog dies? what do you do when the bird or the squirrel or the deer stops showing up? what do you do when not even an animal can bring itself to love you? what do you do when you’re well and truly alone?

Oh, fucking hell... The Alolan Muk infestation in my gutters is back, I thought I'd managed to safely relocate them... Are some fucking Komala dying up there or something to draw them in???

I love the Muk, wonderful pokémon, don't have the biases many do, but the smell of the wild ones isn't something I really want to deal with when I'm supposed to be relaxing at home after my three year wild expeditions with no bloody showers...

Sigh...

I know why they're actually here, it's not Komala, I'm just annoyed that they're back after I thought I'd sent them away... There's a semi-endangered native flowering tree that I keep in my front yard, it attracts them, and I just have to live with it.

The neighbours complain, but even if I wanted to (and I don't) I couldn't cut it down. It's legally protected, the local Malie gardens actually come around and take clippings every now and then to try and get some new growths going.

I keep seeing footage of animal abuse. It is often framed so innocently.

If I open the news broadcast, there may very well be a clip of hundreds of fish gaping their mouths on dry land, in nets or on decks. Somehow at this point it isn't seen as a bad thing. We can see them suffering, their final, distressing moments, but instead we are led to think that we should instead empathise with the fishermen, who have to work by the (too loose) regulations, which have been supposedly tightened once again.

And I fear that some day, I won't care about non-human animals. That I will become so desensitised to violence, that I have forgotten all my values, or the inherent cruelty of animal agriculture. But I will keep fighting. I won't close my eyes from them, as they do not have that choice.

So with that thing that happened like two weeks ago that i already overshared here (and i still haven't get over it obviously) i wasn't feeling like playing but right now my cat (he's an oldie) is sick and the vet didn't say what is it yet. I'm just not with the best of moods atm. Seeing him like this breaks my heart and the comments everyone around me keeps making make me feel bad af. Like I know he's going to die someday, I know that, I'm super aware of it. But there's no need for the constant reminder and even if you remind me every single day, when it happens it will still be the worst day of my life. I don't even have words to explain how i feel.

Anyway, i also have an english certification exam in like 2 weeks, I'm back with classes and all. Pretty shitty. I guess this just isn't my lucky month.
