Nobody ever understands the affects of reactive abuse until they've experienced it themselves.

It shows particularly well when people would rather blame a child for reacting rather than the adult for abusing them in the first place.

When I was fourteen, my parents held me down to my bed, locked my window so I couldn't escape, took everything they knew I loved away from me (including contact with my grandmother, all my books, my music, all my diaries, etc.) and my step dad threatened to sit in the corner of my room and watch me for the entire night if I tried to escape. All while my three younger siblings watched me.

As a result, I had my first panic attack. It led me to attempting to break my window, smashing my mirror, becoming physically violent towards either of my parents when they attempted to come into my room, and nearly overdosing later that night after everyone had gone to bed.

For years, people ignored what I had gone through to get to that point. My parents had crafted such an elaborate story that painted themselves as the victims of my terrible abuse that nobody thought to question how I reached that point. Not the police. Not my school. Not even over half of my own family believed me. The extent of my suicidal ideations nearly put me in hospital multiple times over the following years, even succeeding once.

Reacting to abuse in this way is a cry for help. It's the equivalent of self-harm in my book, except directed towards others. That's not to say that it's okay, but more people seriously need to start looking at the bigger picture before making assumptions.

Just a quick post to thank my friends and all the lovely people who've reached out to me last night.

You've all saved my life, genuinely. Thank you so very much, from the bottom of my heart.

I attempted to overdose on some of my medicine but was persuaded out of it, I'm doing alright right now.

I'll be resting for a few days/weeks/months/??? and I'll eventually fill my queue every now and then, so don't worry about running out of imagines, positivity and art from me!

You say if but it did not happen so there is nothing to be angry about. If you are going to scream at me for every potential mistake I could have made or will ever make in the future you will soon run out of oxygen, so stop it.

Is anyone else a little grossed out by how obsessively the internet hates Jojo Siwa?

She's not a Saint, I'm aware.

But she's been in the spotlight since she was a kid (people hated her then too) on dance moms, a show well known for verbal abuse ON CAMERA.

For a large part of her life, she has been on a script, under public scrutiny, and in toxic show environments. Constantly being advertised and exploited as a product.

I will not say her transgressions against the girls on her dance team (yelling, insults, toxicity) were justified. But they were modeled to her from the adults in her life. Both towards others and towards her.

And now she's an adult, still surrounded by producers trying to profit off of her. Now that she's supposed to have autonomy, she's experimenting and reinventing herself. Which is really hard to do when you've been famous for the same persona basically your whole life.

So give her a little credit she didn't become a bitter asshole or ended up overdosed like a lot of abused child actors.

You can think she's annoying, or over the top, or a brat, but she's still a person.

So let her branch out, be cringey or annoying, just let her be. You don't have to like her, but ffs she's not the devil.

For anyone who doesn't know: some or all of the medication will bind to the charcoal in your stomach or intestines, meaning you'll pass it out without getting the benefit from it. Unpredictably, and having them at different times of day won't help. On the upside, this is precisely why charcoal is so good for treating overdoses and being used in water filtration! But if you're on any oral med (including over the counter), give eg those cupcakes with the black icing a very wide berth. Source: my former lab chemist (and expert patient) partner. :-)
