Here is my “redo” of the hispid hare from a few days ago with a “deer foot” brush. It’s on a smaller piece of paper and it should have been painted on cold press or rough watercolor paper to get the full effect I was trying to achieve of the hare’s fur but it was still much easier to paint the fur using this brush. These are my watercolor sketches for day #11 of the #undyingtalesproject ( swipe to see the #undyingtales mythology behind the ‘Ohi’a Tree, a tree that is threatened due to habitat loss and disease in Hawaii. This tree with it’s gorgeous flowers and fruits grows up from the ashes of volcanos. ( This has to be my favorite topic of this month’s challenge - the tree is breathtaking and the mythology and actual facts about the tree are perfect for the skill set I have. Here we have a young wolverine and a Southern Cassowary bird both endangered and posted for the #undyingtalesproject @undyingtales The cassowary bird I had painted a few years ago and I started painting the wolverine over a month ago when we first received the list of species for this project. Since that time I have figured out a way to paint fur that I prefer much more ( this took for ever and I’m not happy with it) but am posting it anyway. I’m not sure if I will be able to keep up with the challenge as I have some other things I need to work on and I need to get the giveaway up. Day 8 Prompt from The Art of Stephanie Law's #UndyingTalesProject - Tibetan Antelope. I'm calling this one "Theophane" as I was very much inspired by Stephanie's mythological link: "Greek mythology: Theophane was a beauty, nymph and grand-daughter of Helios the sun god. Poseidon, god of the sea, was struck by her loveliness. To have her for himself, he spirited her away to an island surrounded and protected by the cerulean swells of the ocean. Even there, her legendary beauty tempted suitors to come and seek her out. To keep the men at bay, Poseidon transformed Theophane into a sheep, one of many among the flocks, and took on the form of a ram for himself. The offspring of Poseidon and Theophane in these forms was a winged ram with fleece of gold. The golden ram was later sacrificed to Poseidon, and its Golden Fleece became an icon of power and kingship. The ancient Greeks wove this tale around a creature of divine and distant origins, and it is possible that Tibetan takin was the inspiration for the golden creature, or Tibetan antelopes, who are even to this day sought out by poachers and killed for the golden fibers and woven into luxury shawls."
