Welcome

Hello and welcome to my blog! You may remember me from the terrible, awful bird app as MrLarkstin, the dragon kisser. That one guy who ships with Vrtra and Estinien!

And when I say I ship with the dragon I mean the actual dragon, mister Vrtra himself! Big Varshahn is great, and easy to pose with, but I usually try to work with the actual dragon since- thats who Eramus is attracted to!

Here you will mostly find my gposes and lore rambles when the mood takes me, but more often then not lore is kept on my private twitter (EraAfterDark) simply because I just feel more comfy. But here tends to be a big gpose dump!

I do a lot of weird, artsy kinda gposes that involve my Azem and WoL and various other parts of his lore!

I write when the mood takes me, which is either constant or like once in a blue moon.

My AO3 is only available for registered users (sorry, I write dragon kissing and I don't like randos being weird in my comments LMAO)

In Radz-at-Han, Vrtra (via Varshahn) is preparing to make his grand announcement.

I can feel his fear and trepidation; no less than this great calamity could have prompted him to reveal his secret, so afraid was he of his people rejecting him.

It will be alright. They will see how much you care for them.

It is a lovely speech. His people do not yet know him, but they will. And they are willing to extend the same trust to him that he extends to them in this moment. Together, they will get through this.

That it would have. I hope that wherever she is now - the aetherial sea, or perhaps reborn? - that she knows where the path she started us down has led us.

Oh great. These fuckers again.

To his credit, Fourchenault recovers quickly when he discovers he's going to have to negotiate policy with a Great Wyrm. He quickly and succinctly gives a brief explanation of the Final Days, and what the Forum has been planning.

...I am both surprised and relieved. It's clear I need to reassess my view of Sharlayan; I was convinced that, being so insular, they would only seek to rescue their own people. Fourchenault has risen in my estimation. Marginally.

Vrtra will meet and discuss the details of this plan of evacuation with the Forum members in Meghaduta. I am heartened to learn that the decision will ultimately be up to the individuals to decide; Vrtra truly is a good leader.

Nidhana has caught up with us: she has a theory to share!

Y'know, I asked that exact question when Y'shtola first said they didn't have any aether. Without it, how do they exist at all?

Nidhana's theory, then, is based on the fact that strong negative emotions trigger the transformation. She posits that akasa is the alternate energy that the beasts are animated by.

That... would make sense. Because my flower seems to be influenced by the same force, and...

Aaaand it just exploded into black dust.

Well, if akasa is the force behind the flower's color-changing effect, then I think it's safe to say that there's something really fucked up influencing our surroundings right now.

*narrows eyes*

...Didn't Hydaelyn say that the flower would guide me? Or something to that effect?

That seems to imply... That Hydaelyn knows akasa is the force behind the Final Days. That She knew all the way back in Labyrinthos.

Why...

Okay, this doesn't make any sense. Because She may be incredibly frustrating, but She's not evil. ...Is She? That doesn't make sense either. She made the Loporrits out of love for us. She gave us a backup plan. If She knows what's causing the Final Days, why would She let us run about in circles trying to figure the answer out?? She must know about the akasa connection, because literally the only thing the flower does is react to it. Why else give it to me??

Is this like the Forum? Like. She literally can't tell me? But why? What rule could possibly constrain a being like Her?

This is... Really fucking fishy. I don't like this. I have a really bad feeling.

Yeah. And now I don't even have the flower to guide me.

Oh look I suddenly have a million (five) quests to distract me, better go do them...

Sadly the only classes I have at 90 are Sage and Paladin, so those are the only ones I can complete. Everything else I can only do up to level 87.

But, I did notice something curious while completing the Healer quest?

Fordola clearly sees the soul of Charlet, the man who became the blasphemy, walk off to join those of their deceased friends... According to everything Y'shtola said, this should not be possible? There should be nothing left of his soul? And yet there is. I am leery of getting my hopes up, but maybe the souls of those changed are not completely destroyed after all?

A mystery...

Anyway. I have a dinner to attend.

We have to remember, what we saw in Amaurot was end-stage. It is what is coming, but we still have time to stop it. Before things get that bad.

And now we understand why half the star was willing to give up their lives to summon Zodiark, don't we?

No, Y'shtola, you've got that backwards. Zodiark stopped the Final Days. Hydaelyn was the one who sundered everything in the process of subduing Him.

But, that's besides the point. Hydaelyn won't - I'm starting to suspect can't - tell us anything more. We're going to have to find our way from here without Her.

This is why I need to stop solving all my problems with murder.

And so, I will go to the First. Y'shtola will seek to contact Hydaelyn in the aetherial sea. Alphinaud will rendezvous with the various world leaders and ascertain how far the Final Days are progressing. Estinien will--

Hmm, I don't have the rest of this scene but, I feel her questioning of things could have been smoothed over. Like cooperation is more logical in a world that isn't in the Void's conditions. I feel that could have been a good segway of, coliving but still not really getting it and making mistakes. I'll still stick to msq reactions in these posts but it's hard when the overall execution is this awkward

having many Thoughts today about the effect being so thoroughly and intensely suffused with Vrtra’s aether during the Endsinger fight had on Gisèle

I don’t think it changed her to the extent Estinien was by his possession but there had to be some kind of permanent physical changes. maybe little fangs. but mostly internal 👀 like similar effects as her Ishgardians have naturally from their draconic ancestry 👀👀👀

After a mad dash through the Thavnairian jungle, fighting off beasts on the way, we arrive in Palaka's Stand. The village is free of monsters, but the dead and dying are strewn about all over. We set about providing aid where we can.

Matsya's friends Mehvan and Qerasaf, and their child, are nowhere in sight. They were last seen heading towards Agama Temple, with a beast in pursuit. I agree to accompany Matsya to search for them while Alpinaud and Alisaie help heal the villagers.

We are too late to save Qerasaf, who has been mortally wounded. But we are in time to hear his dying words, and to console him, and prevent him from turning into a beast. He dies as himself. Matsya and I race to find Mehvan in the jungle between here and Palaka's Stand before she meets a similar fate, but we come up empty handed.

In the skies above Thavnair, Vrtra and Estinien find a brief moment of respite from fending off the hoard. Estinien receives a call on his linkpearl, and so it is that he and Vrtra both learn of the attack in Radz-at-Han, and Ahewann's death.

Vrtra is clearly devastated to hear of his friend and companion's death. This, on top of the fate of his people who turn into monsters, weights heavy on him. I feel for him.

Estinien bids Vrtra to rally, and to become the leader Ahewann desired him to be before his death.

Vrtra, though, fears that his people will see him as no different from the beasts. That they will be frightened of him.

Estinien talks to him of the Dragonsong War, and the pain and bloodshed from it. But he also reminds Vrtra that, even at the war's height, Hraesvelgr still carried Ysayle to battle, and lent me one of his eyes, that we might triumph over Nidhogg. Had he not done those things, the war would still rage on.

Ahewann was a true servant of the people, and he placed his trust in Vrtra.

Matsya and I again venture out into the jungle in search of Mehvan and her baby, this time with Alisaie and Alphinaud in tow. We do not find them, but do manage to rescue a great number of people who had taken shelter in one of the temples.

The people are by turns hopeful and despondent, many have lost family and loved ones. We fear that the more they dwell on the tragedy the more likely they are to turn into beasts.

Matsya reminds the people that they are in a place of worship, and to look to the words of their gods. Together, they recite some of the teachings, about the hardships of life, and it visibly helps to calm them.

This is a nice scene. Too often we see the ugly side of faith reflected in things like the primals, but here we see the people take solace in their faith and it provides them reassurance and comfort in their time of need...

I am put in mind of something my own god, Hydaelyn, said to me back in Labyrinthos, when she first gave me the elpis flower.

Just as we send the people we've rescued off to safety, Alisaie spies a beast in the distance that appears to be chasing something.

We catch up in time to see the beast grab Mehvan by her head and throw her bodily into the water.

I dive in after her, while Alphianud and Alisaie deal with the monster. Mehvan is dead. I rescue her child, and bring her back to Alphinaud for healing.

The baby needs more care than we can provide here. We have to get her back to Palaka's Stand.

But we've made too much noise! The monsters are closing in!

Matsya must take the child back to the village if she is to live. We will keep the beasts from following him.

Matsya is running as fast as he can, but the baby starts leaking black smoke - the sign that she is about to change into a beast.

He tries to keep both himself and the child calm by reciting the teachings that had so helped them earlier.

No! No. Matsya too is now leaking black smoke!

I have never been so scared for an NPC in all my life.

He continues reciting the teachings as he runs, and I am praying along with him. Run Matsya! You can do it! Keep going! Hydaelyn, help him, please!

No! Just as the aetheryte at Palaka's Stand comes in sight, two beasts emerge from the jungle.

Just as all hope seems lost, Vrtra and Estinien descend and crush the beasts where they stand.

Matsy's relief is overwhelming. I could cry too. But, the child is not out of the woods just yet.

Vrtra saves the baby. I do not know how, but I will not protest small miracles after all the bad that has happened.

Vrtra escorts Matsya and the child to Palaka's Stand while Estinien goes to catch up with us, and assist finishing off the beasts.

Before returning to the village ourselves, we retrieve Mehvan's body and lay her beside her husband, where their friends can perform the appropriate rites once it's safe to do so.

Once returned to Palaka's Stand, Vrtra prepares to reveal the truth of his role. So far, the people are receiving him well...

And if Nidhana (who arrived just in time to hear the revelation) is to be our example to judge by, I believe that all will be well! On this front, at least.

After checking on the villagers we rescued, and assisting Nidhana in passing out chai, we are confident that Palaka's Stand is in good hands. Now, to return to Radz-at-Han.
