yourusername welcome back to my postgame penalty box update show: the brady bunch edition!

the boys won 5-2 tonight! and by "the boys" i do not mean brady and josh, because those two are heckin LOSERS! (jk kinda) (i love you both!) (you did lose though to be fair) (mwah!)

with this win, the canucks now have 10 wins in 13 games, which is the fastest the canucks have ever reached 10 wins! we love making history around here, folks!

quinn is at three games since his last penalty and i’m so proud! he's growing (emotionally, not physically)! you know who DID get a penalty? somehow, not brady, who's in the top 5 in the league for most penalty minutes. the man that did crime tonight was your favorite and my "tolerable at best" acquaintance: argus filch's cat, mrs. norris! a.k.a josh!

the three besties were aggressive with each other this game, and i was honestly disappointed that quinn and brady didn't throw hands. he won't fight my rat, but i was hoping he'd tussle with his bf!

brady didn't let me down though! he shoved quinn down in front of the net for zero reason at all <3 and josh and quinny drove each other into the boards (quinn got smushed) and exchanged some shoves! i’ll take what i can get, and i loved it!

way to go, besties! great game! i love you, bradley! i love you way past infinity, quinny! i like you okay, mrs. norris!

I did find your response very entertaining lol my fault for not asking the right question. My understanding of IDW shockwave was that he was morally grey at first, but then an empty evil man after emp. I've got a better grasp on his character now, so I'm altering my question to be more specific. If you were to write his story (minus the time travel/God thing you're absolutely right abt that) how would you write him so that he heals from emp and is whole again. Like I know he can never be who he was, but how would you write it so he's... better? I guess? Healed from his trauma and a (mostly) normal citizen again?

I think the TEG SW arc is pretty like... adaptable. the character needs to reject their current (bad) understanding of themself, be open to change, be guided through change by friends (usually. hopefully). I am no authority but I'm guessing?? most redemption-esque arcs go like that? I just did what I thought was logical for TEG SW but if it happens to follow a formula, maybe that's cuz that formula is internally logical for the end goal

it took me a long time to figure out TEG so I can't really go into a lot of depth tonight with this. I can try to think through a few things... tl;dr if I were actually going to write a fic, it would be thought out. we're gonna throw some ideas into the tumblr ether here

-shocky comes out of the empurata with some understanding of what's happened to him and some understanding that he was something/someone else before that

-suffers from society's reaction to who he is now, has to find a safe place to live

-perhaps a self help group type thing for other empurata'd mechs

-if we're still doing war, maybe he befriends Glitch and follows him to the Decepticon side. this would be Healing Trauma Through Warfare, aka the bad ending, but it would be an arc. found family except the family likes to kill people

-if we're not doing war, or we're doing A Good Ending, maybe the self help group thing has connections to medical folks. maybe he can see a therapist, or he can go to a body shop and get remodded. I'd have to choose the exact ending and then work towards it

-along the way we'd see him discovering, via his interests/works/hobbies/friendships/hardships, his own internal worth. "I got empurata'd and society hates me but I still have worth" type stuff

-breaks down barriers for empurata'd mechs, does outreach/raises awareness type stuff

-goes full circle when he runs for senator and gets in, because he's amassed a strong enough following. passes laws to eradicate empurata.

boom! that sounds like healing haha

In Defense of Gillington “Gil” Webber Part 4

Grab your brain puffs, were going back to the movies!

And surprisingly? There is nothing that has to do with Lagoona and Gil in the next 3 movies. Friday Night Frights - Gil is on the Skulltimate Roller Maze team and he gets hurt and Lagoona gets sad... that's it. in Ghouls Rule they have zero interaction and I have to skip Scaris City of Frights because there is currently a not legal way for me to re-watch it. All the Monster High movies were added to Paramount+ in October but the second October was over they were yanked off again in a move that makes sense to absolutely no one. I have the DVD but I let my niece borrow it awhile back and when I went to open it for this review there was the Paw Patrol movie in it (great movie BTW) So were just gonna skip it, but if memory serves correctly Lagoona goes to Scaris without Gil so its not like they interact anyways so we aren't missing a damn thing. WHICH MEANS we get to dive right into the movie I have been waiting for! 13 wishes!

5 minutes in it begins. Lagoona is excited for a fresh new school year but Gil looks like a huge sad sack, He was going to go over Lagoonas house for dinner that nice but he tells her "I'm sorry Lagoona, I can't come over your house for dinner tonight or any other night" Lagoona is annoyed and rightfully so this is the third or fourth time we're re-hashing this same argument. she says "Crickey! again!? just because I'm a salt water monster!? I wish your parents would accept me" Gil says nothing because... what is there left to say? He does agree that he wishes his parents would accept Lagoona too and he holds her hand to comfort her, both of them look pretty defeated.

And I feel bad for them because I've been them. You think I'm writing this think piece for my health? it's not like I'm getting paid. This is a labor of love. Just like Gil, I had a racist parent, My father would not accept that my love was a different ethnicity than me and he disowned me. The only difference between me and Gil is I was an adult when this happened, I can live without my parents. Gil is 16, he can't really do much without them and it breaks my heart to see him suffer, certain folks on Twitter say Lagoona was tortured during this arc and she totally was but so was Gil. Let us not pretend that everything that hurts Lagoona about this situation doesn't also hurt Gil. They are both victims of hatred and they both suffer.

The next time we see them they're arguing. This is the first time we've actually seen them fight. Based on what they are talking about Gil's parents probably set up his class schedule so that him and Lagoona aren't in any of the same classes.

Lagoona: "So now we can't even be in the same classes together!?"

Gil: "My parents don't want us spending any time together"

Lagoona: "I thought we were so past this"

Gil: "I'm sorry Lagoona"

Gil tries to put his hand on Lagoonas shoulder to comfort her but she pulls away from his touch and starts to cry. Wanting to give her some space, Gil walks away.

Howleen, armed with a Genie and the desire to do something good and selfless offers to help. Lagoona tells Howleen that it's sweet she wants to help but the problem is with Gil's parents. "They'll never let us be together. Fresh water monsters have been looking down their gills at us Salt water folk for centuries. I'm afraid there's nothing you can do about that." Howleen just bursting with desire to help Lagoona says that she CAN help and she summons Gigi and makes a very specific wish and phrasing is very important here.

Howleen: "I wish Gil's parents liked Lagoona!"

I am confident the phrasing of the wish would have made it turn out differently but Howleen didn't wish for Gil's parents to "no longer be racist" or for "prejudice against sea monsters to no longer be a thing" She specifically asked for Gil's parents to like Lagoona and the only reason they don't like her is because she's a salt water creature so the wish interprets this as: Turn Lagoona into a fresh water creature. This is not a fail on Howleen's part, Howleen is 14 and dismantling a centuries old racist establishment is a lot to ask of a 14 year old but Howleen did her best.

Lagoona is reborn as a fresh water monster and she is ecstatic. having no hang ups at all about losing her salt water heritage, She just thinks about Gil's parents reaction when they see she is now one of them. She shakes Howleens hand, thanking her and she runs, not walks to find Gil.

This is really sad when you think about it, Lagoona is no longer related to her own family. I hate to state the obvious and draw a Little Mermaid comparison but it's right there. Much like Ariel gave up being a mermaid for love, Lagoona gave up being a sea monster for the same reason. Lagoona knows her family will accept her no matter what form she takes, Remember in Great Scarrier reef she showed up on her fathers doorstep with a tail and Wade just laughed at it. I wanna say this is a very drastic action to take for a High School relationship but Gil and Lagoona have been dating for awhile by this point, I know Monster High operates on a floating timeline because they need to stay teenagers forever but in canon time it's been minimum a year? max 2 years. We've seen them start a new school year twice by this point. Lagoona and Gil are the second longest official paired couple in Monster High canon and If you've been with someone for that long you're allowed to make drastic changes like this for them is what I am getting at.

The next time we see Lagoona and Gil a day has passed and Lagoona was already at their house for dinner that night and The Webbers loved her. Gil is just as surprised by this as the ghouls are when they tell them. I'm rather annoyed that all of this transpired off-screen. They spent years building up to this only to just tell us about it later? Boo! Anyways Lagoona is absolutely gushing about how great her and his mom got along and how she's going to show Lagoona how to make Gil's favorite dish: Lilli-pad Linguini.

Lagoona is over the moon with joy that she at long last made a good impression on Gil's parents, Gil is happy but he seems kind of uncomfortable with the situation, he's not really glowing with pride like Lagoona is he's mostly shocked and cautiously optimistic.

I don't know man... if I was Gil this would have been another fight with my parents. "So now you like her!? She's the exact same fuckin' person! she just breathes fresh water now!" I absolutely would have cussed at my parents and got popped in the mouth for it, but I would have been right. That's kinda the problem with racists you can't use logic on them because there is no logic to be had. Racism is illogical.

Certain folks on Twitter often cite this as another reason why they dislike Gil because "He made her change" but Gil didn't do shit. Technically Lagoona didn't even ask for this, Howleen saw the problem and offered to correct it. Gil didn't ask for this and he looks off-put by the whole idea if we look at him closely.

Clawdeen, Ghoulia and Cleo know something is off too. Cleo even says "This is not our Lagoona"

At lunch Draculaura notices Lagoona isn't eating and asks what she is doing as she is cutting up Gil's food. Lagoona says she will eat after she has cut up Gil's food for him like his mom showed her "it's a fresh water tradition! which I embrace"

Something very Stepfordian is happening to Lagoona. They don't say it but with her super happy eyes and the knife this is visual shorthand that something isn't right, while I'm sure a part of Lagoona wanted this the rest of her certainly doesn't but she is compelled by the wish. Gil doesn't just look a little put-off by this he looks visibly upset. Lagoona tries to spoon feed him his food through his water tank and he says "This is so embarrassing"

Let's talk about them freshwater traditions hmm? Lagoona's been to the Webbers twice and already His mom is teaching her how to cook for him, cut up his food for him, spoon feed him. These are some ancient traditions from back when women were supposed to serve men not surprising these come from the same people who hate Lagoona based on what species she is. What a cruel male dominated society they must come from and Mama Webber buys into it, She is trying to turn Lagoona into a mini version of herself meanwhile Gil liked Lagoona just fine the way she was... This kids movie is quickly veering into horror movie territory.

As Student Disembody President Abbey announces a beach clean up field trip, Something Salty Lagoona would have loved and jumped on asap, but Fresh Lagoona says she is going to sit out the field trip to "Spend All day, Every Day" with Gil. And Gil does look happy to spend time with Lagoona but then she says "Who cares about a bunch of polluted sea water!? Bleh!" Gil's expression quickly changes, that is not on brand for Lagoona and he knows that.

I would be remiss if I didn't take this moment to complain about what a wasted opportunity it was that Mattel did not release a Shadow Ghouls pack with 13 wishes, Look at these designs and colors! throw Abbey in there too and make it a 6 pack! it would have been glorious!

Ghoulia wondering why she didn't get a Haunt the Casbah doll. *ahem* anyways back to business.

We needed that doll complaint break because the next time we see Lagoona she has become completely unhinged. Gil asks her if she wants to study with him and she says "oh No! I just want to drink this water, this fresh water" And she starts chugging water from the solo cups and crushing them against her forehead like shes a seasoned sorority sister during rush week. Gil is confused by this and says "But what about the Scholastic Aptitude Test?"

"I don't care about school! this is who I am now Gil, Your parents love me and I couldn't be happier!" Lagoona begins.... glitching? .... her head shakes and her pupils are uneven. I believe this is Lagoonas true nature trying to break through the wishes magic, I don't think she believes in anything she is saying or doing.

Gil: "But what about your parents?"

Lagoona: "Oh who cares! they're just a bunch of salt water drongos right?!"

Gil: *uncomfortable laugh* "Ha ha! Okay but, Lagoona you're kidding right? this isn't you"

Wow! the wish made her racist too! while Gil's looking away Lagoona gets up and chugs directly from the water cooler jug and I think it finally hits Gil that his Lagoona is nowhere in sight.

This would be fascinating if it wasn't so very sad. But I'm pretty sure "be careful what you wish for" is like, one of the many lessons this move is trying to teach us. But Gil did not wish for this, Lagoona didn't even wish for this, Howleen wished for this in a misguided attempt to help them. I don't blame Howleen for this though, Both Gigi and Clawdeen told her not to be selfish wish her wishes.

The movie takes place over the course of several days, Bloodgood goes on and returns from a trip while Howleen and Wisp are waiting for the eclipse. The school has been turned into a Howleen worship center and Gil tries to point out this is wrong to Lagoona who says "I don't care about anything except being with you!" and she puts a red lobster bib on him like he's a toddler.

Gil tells her he doesn't need it and she says "You're right! if you get your shirt dirty I'll just wash it for you in fresh water! or buy you a new one with me allowance!" Nice to see that laundry and spending are also on Mama Webbers teaching list.

She once again takes Gil's lunch and starts cutting it up for him, Gil reassures Lagoona she doesn't have to do that and she says "Oh! but I do! in fact take my lunch too! you need your strength for the big swim meet!" Gil reminds her that she's on the swim team too and also needs her strength for the swim meet and she tells him that she quit the team... this is the final straw for Gil, He tells her he doesn't even know who she is anymore and the movie goes full horror movie on us.

"I'm exactly who you want me to be."

Yikes on Bikes on Trikes! that is some scary shit! But its nice to know that even while under a magic spell Lagoona is still unreasonable as all hell. Gil didn't ask for this! Gil did not want this! Look at his face! is that the face of someone who asked for this!? We are 4 parts deep into studying Gil and Lagoonas relationship and at no point has Gil ever once asked Lagoona to change, told her to change or wished she could change, Gil accepts Lagoona as she is! Movie wants me to believe that Gil is somehow responsible for this but movie is a liar. I'm sure Gil himself would have pointed out that he never asked for this if he wasn't so incredibly horrified of what his love has become.

Putting this on Gil is completely unfair. I could maybe understand where Lagoona is coming from if Gil blamed her for his parents behavior or if he muttered under his breath after their fight that this wouldn't be happening to them if she was a river monster then yea, okay then it's totally Gil's fault... but he didn't do any of that! he has been chill and understanding despite the many horrible things his parents have put him through this entire franchise. it's one thing if the fans take Gil out of context but now canon media itself is doing it. Y'all want Gil to be trash so bad but he just isn't.

As the movie ends we get one last glimpse of Fresh Lagoona smothering Gil while he's probably wondering how ethical it would be the break up with someone who changed their species for him.

But the wish is undone and our Lagoona returns to us seemingly having no idea what happened and Gil is over joyed to have his salt water ghoul back exactly as he likes her, as herself. And just in case that wasn't obvious enough they hammer it home with Gil saying it himself.

Lagoona: "I'm sorry Gil, I know you really liked me being a fresh water ghoul."

Gil: "NO! no! that's what my parents wanted you to be! But I like you, just the way you are!"

Lagoona then promptly pushes him into the pool and reminds him she is going to beat him at the swim meet that weekend and Gil?

Gil wouldn't have it any other way.

I love this ending, it's adorable what a shame it won't last, Now we don't have time unpack the fallout of what his parents are going to do when they find out their perfect daughter-in-law to be is no longer what they wanted. But just like in real life, moments of happiness are fleeting so you gotta enjoy them while you can.

I started this deep dive into Gil and Lagoonas relationship to defend Gil's good name but you know what? The boy doesn't need my defense. He's so clean he squeaks, I'm actually getting a little bored, I almost want him to be a jerk just to spice things up a bit but He's the perfect boyfriend and anyone who says otherwise is either trolling you or they have never consumed a canon piece of Monster High media in their life.

And that is where I'm going to stop this one. 13 Wishes was a wild ride, it deserves it's own section to itself. In Part 5 we're going to either start volume 4 of the webisodes or crack open Gil's diaries (he only has 2) I'm having fun writing these and I hope y'all are having fun reading them!

As it trickles just after midnight, wary eyes meet the sight of the Chief of Police, Oliver Brown, going up to the podium to address the crowd for the second time that night.

I don't know how the fuck they did it, but we got another death on our hands. My team and I regret to inform you all that Levi Abrams, a local businessman who is part of the newly engaged couple everyone came out to see and celebrate tonight, was found dead in his hotel room. The room has now been sealed off so we can gather evidence, but according to our medical examiners, he was stabbed multiple times, and suffered a fatal stab wound to the heart. There doesn't seem to be signs of a forced entry. To everyone here, we are deeply sorry for your loss. It's fucked how a celebration has turned into this.

A 911 call was received from his fiancée a couple of minutes ago, and our team was the first on the scene. We also regret to inform you that Zhou Mei, owner and attendant of Turbo, and fiancée of Levi Abrams, and Iris Anev, a bartender at Medusa, suffered injuries tonight as well. Though, a distinction can be made that Zhou did not suffer multiple stab wounds, while Anev did. We're unsure if both were pushed down the stairs, but that's where both were found, in a pool of each other's blood. Both Zhou and Anev have been rushed to Griggs General to receive urgent treatment, and I'm sure the folks down at Nightrest News will give you all an update with the two victims once it's available, tomorrow at the earliest.

Security will now be even tighter, and you must state a reason for every time you leave this ballroom. Interrogations of all guests will continue and we highly encourage everyone to stay here, instead of the rooms due to the most recent tragedy. We understand it's getting really late but we hope for everyone's cooperation tonight so we can find out the people responsible for this.

There's something delightful about the Percy & Ashton interaction in C3E36 that speaks to a similarity between Taliesin's characters. Like, Ashton sees this formal, prissy old aristocrat who they sort of assume has never really known suffering or loss, and they treat him accordingly.

And while Percy definitely thinks Ashton is young and naive, he also sees something familiar in Ashton and the way he both lashes out and clings desperately to this bunch of weirdos he's found and has become determined to protect. It's not enough to make him like Ashton, but it earns a little bit of recognition, and Matt and Taliesin played both halves of this interaction so well.

There is an old folk song that is sung in Exandria. It goes by a lot of titles--In Marquet it’s commonly known as The Liar’s Love, while natives of Xhorhas would know it as The Fey Groom, and the elves of Syngorn’s version has a title that translates to “The Sacrifice of Truth for Love.”

This is one bard’s rendition of the song in Common, as accompanied by ukulele.

Was out just now. In my hood art is hung from the trees. I love Brooklyn. Today I played the part of a busy Hausfrau. Went to market post office pharmacy. Mopped polished the digs end to end...I mean every corner. Called my my sister because I love her. Then my primary care Doc. ...whom I like. Worked out the details for my rescheduled eye procedure. That last attempt good bleeping grief!

My downstairs neighbor knocked to see if I was okay. Bless her. I'm everybody's uncle. In da last years, noticeable numbers of young hipsters in hood and building. Reverse white flight. They're coming back and are just as broke as the rest of us. In da 20th century the Black Panthers said to America: "In 50 years they'll do to you what they're doing to us. Which means we're mostly in da same boat.

Brings me to my point. Got my mail-in ballot for local elections today. Folks in my lifetime suffered beatings prison and gave their lives so 'everyone' in this republic could vote. So Vote like your life depends on it. Because it does.

Meantime, be good to yourselves. Me, I'm treating to Chinese tonight. Dumplings and Moo Goo Gai Pan. Sounds like a plan. Bundle up. It's going down to 29f/ -2c later tonight in NYC. Winter makes an odd appearance. Loves ya be well.

There are several things wrong here what is everyone's oxygenating and can't tell and our son can. There's a few things today healing fast and some things that are going away little by little I was thinking an effort but he's going through it and a lot of other people are.

-lots of folks here don't like Tommy f and we despise him he had her son do that and it was not free man she's just doing his ass that I'm playing and his plan is full of crap that's too much for me I can't see him suffer anymore you don't have to go through it these days it's not really worth it too many people complaining of all sorts of stuff so we need to help people in ours and him

-there's a lot going on and we have people who are out of line I'm going to take care of her and we're going to use many methods but right now they should know that they are being surveilled that's right police and sheriff and multiple agencies have these people under surveillance and they're watching them restaurant the best like a Non-Stop horrible people they say summer reports went back today to the FBI so the CIA and more and it was minority foreigners most ly end up in the NSA and other government agencies including the office of the President stating that the conspiracy is real they need real intell and to go after it with gusto and they began a large scale investigation and Tommy f. Started the other day but now it's going on in a very large way and they're tired of it they received insults and threats as well and then going to shut them down tonight a huge bunch of them went out to several locations nearby Southwest Florida and they are to find out what the status is

Well tommy f did not send out any groups he knows the status and what their plan is. But there's a lot of people who did send groups to get information and they got a ton of it all over the world and they found out something these more like don't like us at all, there's a huge plan to get rid of us and the attack us, so they decided to do something. A large scale counteroffensive is beginning shortly. Globally. Hey listens all night so far and find them snickering and Charlie and laughing it almost anything that they would do and another reason so they're sending out operatives to get more intelligence and it's a deadly game.

Then go ahead and find out that Garth and his sister and their cadre were holding off social security to have him brought back to New York it was threatening for him to move to New York believe it or not it was starting to go well not for him but they had a job for him they would just extremely stupid and rude I didn't get any living expenses that they're ridiculous people okay his group are stupid people and they never give him money they're ridiculous it's like I needed $200 you dumb f**** is what he said on the way out he said all I need was a couple hundred bucks and you f****** stupid on the way down the stairs is going you're so f****** dumb feeling going to kill you a lot for this and he's saying it some Asian guy walks by and it was Jason he's saying what you saying I said these people are so cheap they want to give up their lives for $200 and he smiled a little and said probably you don't get it you will. And he said to him like your a minority stupid. The whole point is that they're the ones who held the social security off in North Oxford and they held it off for a couple months and she's still the director threatening social security and minority morlak come moving in. And Obama was already out at New Hampshire and people are wondering who it was then if it wasn't him some people say it was some people say it wasn't his son was trying to figure out if it was and the a****** is trying to say that he's carrying the weight it wasn't carrying anything he could hardly tell he was saying that, but behind the scenes they're breaking out of New Hampshire and they're helping to do it and it was Garth and yeah he was complicitous in the death of Ernie and Obama and because he's an idiot and he's going after his family he's messing with her son forever. It's important to note what he was doing there as it's important to know what he was doing in North Oxford and he was not making any better it's one of his doctors and he was having him take this green stuff which was clogging up his systems and he was known for the guy being the guy he does stupid things like that to our son it is a hazard and now he's going to get hazard pay and he's going to pay our son back everything that he took from him. These people are such jerks okay Garth and his company of a****** and they're going to get wiped out because they're the ones threatening the social security people find them doing it and he's going to publish

Five times Buck and Eddie were oblivious idiots (in love), and the one time they weren't.

Or, Buddie through Maddie's eyes.

AN: Last one, folks! thank you all for sticking withit 🖤

When Chimney told her they were going on their first date since Amelia was born, the first thing Maddie felt was terror and dread. She couldn't imagine leaving her baby alone for hours, not even if it was with Buck, whom Amelia seemed to adore with all ofher little heart.

Howie was insistent though, and after a week of him pestering her about it, she agreed.

It took another two days of planning, trying to find a day they all had off, and during that time, she'd changed her mind about a dozen times.

On the day of, she packed up her daughter's things, checked and double checked that everything Buck would need was there, then got her daughter ready. "You're gonna be spending the day with your uncle Buck, baby!"

Amelia squealed as Maddie rubbed their noses together, and held onto a strand of hair and pulled. Maddie winced, and seriously considered cutting her hair to a short length just until her daughter grew out of the hair tugging phase.

"Alright, Howie, we're leaving!" She called out, but recieved no answer as he was in the shower. She wanted to allow him the opportunity to say goodbye to their daughter, but they were running late, so she let him be. "Daddy will see you tonight after our date, okay, baby?"

Buck opened the door with a wide smile, and snatched Amelia out of her hands the minute she was close. He held her up in the air, pressing his face in her neck and blowing noisily. Her daughter let out the sweetest laugh and Maddie smiled and shook her head. "I'm here, too, you know!"

Buck rolled his eyes and gave her a distracted one-armed hug. "Hey, Mads." Then went right back to playing with Ami.

"I missed you, little one," her brother said quietly, holding the little girl up so they were face to face. One small fist hit him in the face and he laughed.

"Hey, I'm running late, so-" she trailed off when she noticed Buck's small table was set for two. For a date, that much was obvious.

"Ooh, are you expecting company?" She muttered, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively. Then, "wait, do you need me to take Amelia somewhere else? Or maybe Howie and I can reschedule?-"

"Mads, no! Absolutely not."

"Buck, you haven't been on a date in what, 6, 7 months now? This is a big deal! I don't want to ruin anything for you."

Buck smiled and squeezed her arm. "I promise you, you're not ruining anything. Go, have fun with your boyfriend. And don't worry about us."

"Are you sure?" She checked again.

He rolled his eyes. "Yes, I'm sure. Now, quit stalling, and go."

"Okay." She steadied herself on his arm and went on her tiptoes to place a couple of kisses on both of her daughter's cheeks. "Be good for your uncle, sweetie." She kissed her again, smiling when she let out a giggle. "I love you."

"Oh, and Maddie?"

"Yeah, Buck?"

"You look beautiful, sis," he said, his smile soft.

She grinned, and twirled a little in her green dress. "Yeah?"

He chuckled. "Yeah, you do."

She hugged him sideways and smiled up at him. "Thanks. For everything."

He waved her off, then held her daughter's hand up in his and imitated a wave. "Say bye bye, Ami."

Maddie waved at them both, took a deep breath and forced herself to leave.

It was just a couple of hours.

Maddie's cheeks hurt from smiling, yet she couldn't stop herself from doing it all the way to Buck's. Howie had tried to convince her to let Ami stay the night at Buck's, but she just couldn't wait to tell her brother and her daughter, and she might also be suffering from separation anxiety- not that she was going to admit it. Howie had just laughed and offered to come with her, but she'd declined.

When she got there, she quietly knocked on his door and waited. She looked down at her hand and stared at the ring in awe, still unable to believe that she was going to get married. To Howie. Her smile widened and she started to get impatient as Buck kept her waiting. She rummaged in her purse and came up with the key to his apartment, one she never used in order to avoid any incident like the one from when she first came to LA.

But, desperate times, right?

When she entered, quietly as to not wake them if they were sleeping, she found the lights were dim. The TV was on, but the sound was low, so she continued her journey onward.

Then- that was her brother, half naked, on top of someone.

"Ahhh!" She turned around, looking up at the ceiling. "Seriously, Evan?"

She heard a thud. "Maddie? How'd you get in?"

"The key you gave me a year ago? I guess I should be happy this time you're only half naked," she said, trying to control the urge to laugh as she heard another thud and a curse.

"This time?" She heard another voice join in. And that was- that was definitely Eddie, she realized with a jolt.

"You can turn around, Mads."

She did, and yep, that was definitely Eddie, hair messy and face red. They both looked like a couple of teenagers caught making out and she couldn't help but laugh. "Relax, you two. You look like you expect to be scolded." Her eyes shifted to Buck and she pointed a finger at him. "You and I will be having words about this, though."

He gave her a sheepish look and shrugged, while Eddie, who looked almost uncomfortable, excused himself to the kitchen. Buck's eyes followed him, and when she saw the thinly veiled concern in his eyes, she crossed over to him. "Hey, what's wrong? Did I make him uncomfortable?"

He shook his head. "It's not you. We just agreed we'd keep this quiet for a little while, just to figure out if it's something we both want- longterm, I mean."

"How long has it been going on?"

"A little over a month?"

She blinked at him. "And you haven't-?"

"I have," he told her confidently. "Eddie- I'm not sure. I don't want to rock the boat too much, you know? We're in a good place, and I don't-" he cut off abruptly, and she understood why when she followed his eyes to where her hand was fiddling with her belt. "You said yes!" He nearly shouted, enthusiastic and genuinely happy. Maddie raised an eyebrow.

"You knew?"

He nodded vigorously. "Went ring shopping with Chim. He was picky, and it was a nightmare." She laughed, then laughed harder when he hugged her and spun her around. "I am so happy for you, Mads. So, so happy."

"I am, too. It feels like a dream, you know?"

"Yeah," he said wistfully, and she put a hand on his cheek.

"It'll work out. You and Eddie, you'll figure it out. You already did the hard part."

He smiled. Amelia chose that moment to wake up, and she heard her daughter's cries. "I'll go get her," Buck said immediately and Maddie walked over to the coffee table, picked up the walkie, and turned it off.

Eddie came back a few seconds later, a glass of water in his hand and still uncomfortable, though he was hiding it better. "Congratulations," he told her with a sincere smile, pointing his chin in the direction of the ring. "Couldn't not hear Buck screaming about it," he added, sounding fond.

She shook her head with a small smile. "Thanks." She wondered if he heard anything else, though she knew they'd kept most of their conversation quiet.

He wiped his hands on his jeans. "Hey, Maddie-"

"I won't tell anyone."

He let out a relieved breath. "Thanks."

It rubbed her the wrong way, his relief. She knew he loved her brother, it was all over his face even before they got together. But the fact that they'd been together for a whole month, but he still wasn't sure about them, didn't sit right with her.

The thing was, she knew her brother. The minute he and Eddie got together, she was sure he'd been all in. Right now, he was letting Eddie lead, and she had to wonder what this was doing to him. His words, that he didn't want to rock the boat, came back to her, and they made her suspect that maybe they'd discussed this before and Eddie had reacted negatively? Doubts began to creep in, and her thoughts must have showed on her face, because Eddie sighed and rubbed a hand down his face. He turned to look at the stairs, then looked back at her.

"I love your brother, Maddie." She nodded; that wasn't exactly news to her, though it was nice to hear him confirm it.

"Have you told him that?" He looked down at his hands, and Maddie felt stuck for a second, unsure if it was her place to say any of this. "Listen, Eddie, I know how hard it is, trust me, I do. But- he deserves to know. So, maybe you should talk to him about why you really don't want people to know?" She suggested. "Buck's smart, especially when it comes to the people around him, so if you're hiding something? He'll know, and he'll overthink it to death-"

He laughed and nodded. "I know." When he looked at her, he seemed regretful, guilty. "He's been good to me, better than I deserve."

She felt guilty and immediately retracted. "Hey, no, that's not- you've been good to him, too, you know."

He looked doubtful.

"Hey, I could tell he's been a lot happier these past few weeks. I just never figured out why. Until now."

A small smile appeared on his face, and she let out a relieved breath.

Buck came down a few minutes later, holding her daughter in one arm and her bag in the other. Amelia had her face buried in Buck's neck, and Maddie suspected she was back to sleep. "Sorry I was late, she needed a diaper change," he said quietly.

"Thank you," she told him, kissing his cheek. She took her daughter gently, then the bag.

Eddie, in a move that was a surprise for Buck as much as it was for her, pulled Buck in for a chaste kiss. "I think I'm gonna head out, too. I'm cutting it close as it is," he laughed softly.

Buck seemed disappointed, but nodded with a smile. While Eddie collected his things, Buck walked her to the door. "Talk to him, Buck," she urged. "If you trust him, and if you love him as much as I think you do, then you should rock the boat. Don't keep things from him, little brother, okay?"

"I don't know, Mads."

"Trust me, I'm always right."

Buck laughed and pushed her out. "Hey, watch it!" She exclaimed, laughing. "I'll see you?"

"Tomorrow. You and Chim. I'm cooking you dinner, and you're gonna tell me everything about the proposal."

She waved at him as she answered, "alright, see you tomorrow, Buck. Say bye to Eddie for me."

"Will do."

"Oh, before I forget!" She went back over to him, just as Eddie joined them at the door. She pressed the key to his apartment in his hand, and at his questioning look, she gave a sly one of her own. "Twice is bad enough, not risking a third time now that this-" she gestured between them, "is a thing."

With that, she walked away, her brother's protests and Eddie's laughter following after her.

They were going to be okay, she was sure of it.

Two days later, she got a simple text that had her smiling like a lunatic, according to Chimney, at her phone.

B: Talked to Eddie. We're gonna tell Bobby tomorrow.

And exactly a week after that, at a get together that Buck hosted in his apartment that definitely was not big enough for all of them, Eddie and Buck told everyone they were together, awkward and stumbling over their words. No one seemed surprised, which had the boys offended, and it didn't take long for the conversation to turn to the details of how they got together.

Maddie was over the moon happy for them, but that was until Hen, smug as ever, asked the boys when they got together.

"And be specific- a lot of money is riding on this."

-and she remembered the bet she was in on.

Eddie raised an eyebrow, and Buck just rolled his eyes and huffed.

"About six weeks ago?" Eddie asked and Buck nodded.

Hen and Athena high fived. "Pay up, all of you," Athena called out.

Maddie, Howie, Karen and even Bobby took out their wallets and dutifully handed over their money.

"You all bet on us?" Buck asked incredulously.

"Well, yeah," Hen said. "It's what we do," she shrugged.

"Wait," Buck zeroed in on her, his eyes narrowed. " Maddie, is that why you were on my case about him?"

"You're my brother, Buck! I was concerned about your sad excuse of a love life." At his raised eyebrow, she smiled sheepishly. "And I was invested, literally." Everyone else laughed as he glared at her, and he turned to Eddie, shaking his head.

"You're supposed to be on my side," he reminded him mildly, and when Eddie's hand rested on the nape of his neck and the other man leaned in to place a sweet kiss on his temple, his frown was replaced by a pleased smile. The action garnered different reactions.

Maddie let out a quiet 'aww' and Bobby and Athena looked on with fond and pleased smiles. Hen and Chimney, on the other, had to ruin the moment. Her fiance threw popcorn at them, while Hen shook her head. "You two are gonna be a nightmare at work, aren't you?"

Buck collected the popcorn off his lap and ate it, then shrugged, pointedly moving closer to Eddie, even though Maddie hadn't thought that was possible. "I guess you'll have to wait and see," he shrugged with a smug smile.

Eddie rolled a smile, but Maddie caught his pleased smile seconds before he hid it in her brother's hair.

Maddie smiled, so happy she could cry, as she snuggled further into Chimney's side.

For a long time, all Maddie had wanted for her brother was to find someone with a heart as big as his, for him to find a person who gave him the love he deserved. Someone who met him halfway.

And now, as she watched him and Eddie speak quietly, as if they were in their own bubble, as she watched them laugh together, every action of theirs managing to convey tenderness and love, she realized that this was exactly what she had wanted for him.

And he'd found it with Eddie.
