So last month my brother bought me a wood burning tool for my birthday. "I didn't really know what to get you but then I saw this and it jumped right out at me."

I was excited because I always like trying new arts and craft mediums, and I never would have thought to get one for myself.

So I bought some scrap wood and some transfer paper and tested using it. I'm obviously still super green with the tool, but I decided for his wedding shower later in the month I wanted to make him and his fiancée a hand made gift with it.

I knew I wanted to do something silly and with cats, because they're both big Tabby fiends, having three of them currently, and as soon as I saw the bread box at the shop, I knew what I had to do.

They both loved it and my brothers reaction was priceless, "Their faces being little slices of bread is both cute and a little bit disturbing."

Mission accomplished.

I've been having thoughts on gift giving and I'd love to hear other people's opinions.

This year I've been in the fortunate situation of receiving many gifts (Christmas, bridal shower, and wedding all falling within a few months of each other). People ask me what I want, and I generally give some ideas, but I don't like to give a specific "I want this thing, this colour, this size, this model" (because I rarely know those exact details). For the wedding and shower, my fiancé and I made a registry, and it includes a mix of both vague items (eg. We both like artifical soaps) and specific items (eg. This towel set in this colour).

But I've had some people come up to me and ask what I would like specifically for the shower. They say "yes I see you have a registry, but what do YOU want". And I want to say "that's the point of the registry!". Or they'll ask "what type of soap? What smell? What brand? What colour"? And I want to say "whichever you choose". Sometimes I'm purposefully vague and just give a category, because I like that category, but I don't have a specific want. It's usually foe the more "frivolous" things, things that I get to enjoy, where variation is good.

So I guess my question is kind of a combo of "am I the asshole?" And "what's your opinion on this?" (Also I recognize that this is an incredibly privileged thing to be bothered by, but it's been bugging me recently)

Annoyed (the point of gift giving is to think of the other person, put yourself in their mind, or for it to be a suprise)

Unbothered (literally don't care either way)

Like (enjoy that the person is trying to be thoughtful, prefer not to be too suprised)
