Completed Dramas, Ranked
Masterlist of all the dramas I have finished and my rankings from 1-10. Keep in mind I don't usually finish dramas that I don't like, so most of these reviews will be 6+ ratings.
Recently added: My Dearest, Wedding Impossible, Vagabond, Love to Hate You
Tumblr media
Twenty Five Twenty One - 10/10 Finished 2023-08 I will never recover from this drama. I cried and laughed and fell so in love with the entire cast. The friendship between the two female leads is beautiful. Nam Joo-hyuk the actor that you are. That ending will be permanently etched on my heart. Another incredible display of how talented female writers are in kdramas.
Favourite line: “It’s love. I love you, Hee-do. I don’t need a rainbow.” Tags: melodrama, sports, friends to lovers
Doom At Your Service - 10/10 Finished 2023-07 Cried my eyes out. Park Bo Young is too cute. The whole premise is so good and they do such a good job pacing it and throwing in twists to keep it interesting. Also has made me a huge Seo In Guk stan, the man is crazy talented at playing a villain with a heart of gold.
Favourite line: "Love me to the point that you will want to destroy the world for me." Tags: fantasy, melodrama, enemies to lovers
Reborn Rich - 10/10 Finished 2023-09 There has never been a better revenge drama. Succession meets time travel fantasy meets enemies to lovers romcom meets 90s period piece. Song Joong Ki absolutely nails it once again.
Favourite line: "There are 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. They say time is fair to everyone. However, time isn’t fair. Just like everything else in this world." Tags: revenge, enemies to lovers, time travel, 90s
My Name - 10/10 Finished 2023-07 Despite being traumatized by the ending, this is still one of my fave dramas. The acting. The fight choreography. The romance. 10000/10. Pil-do might be one of my favourite male leads ever. I love me a soft boy who would do anything to protect his strong, independent woman.
Favourite line: "Is life supposed to be fun?" Tags: revenge, action, enemies to lovers, gangs vs cops
Romance Is a Bonus Book - 10/10 Finished 2023 -07 So rewatchable. Truly the coziest kdrama out there. A great start into noona romances too. Also the line where she talks about how it was so nice to be called by her name, instead of “mom”, “honey”, “you” really stays in my heart. Also started my obsession with Jong-Suk.
Favourite line: "Instead of 'I love you,' soseki natsume said, 'the moon is beautiful." Tags: friends to lovers, noona romance, workplace romance, romcom, love triangle
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - 10/10 Finished 2023-08 Absolute perfection. Jun Ho is the new standard. Deals with autism in a surprisingly modern way. Some interesting episodes on feminism in the workplace too.
Favourite line: "All my thoughts tend to center around me, so I make people close to me lonely. I don’t know when or why I do that. And I don’t know what I can do to stop it." Tags: legal drama, autism, workplace romance
Captivating the King - 10/10 Finished 2024-03-03 Incredible directing. Best acting performance of the year surely from Jo Jung Suk. Perfect if you liked Kings Affection. So much tension, little bit gay in a great way, and the palace politics are actually so interesting. All the characters are very morally grey and make for such interesting stories.
Favourite quote: “I love to win but I cannot put up with boredom.” Tags: FL disguised as man, historical drama, enemies to lovers
Nevertheless - 10/10 Finished 2023-06 Female gaze times a million. And the supporting cast is one of my faves (except for the TAs, they were boring as all hell). It’s also one of the few kdramas that tackle a relationship that’s kind of “friends with benefits” and you can very much tell it was written by a woman.
I get why some people really don’t like this one, but I’m a big believer in not needing the main characters to be good people for it to be a good piece of art. Everyone is very flawed in this (nearing on toxic), but it tells a lot of important stories that I really connected with.
Favourite line: "I know it will cause me pain again. Nevertheless..." Tags: friends with benefits, college drama, red flag ml, love triangle
Hot Stove League - 10/10 Finished 2024-03 Baseball is life. Definitely the best sports drama out there, although it’s a close race with Love All Play. This drama has no romance, so I was really surprised that it hooked me so much. But the drama is amazing. The villains are so good. And mostly I just love this goddamn sport man. Even if you don’t like sport, I think you’ll enjoy the twists and turns and found family dynamics of this one. Also Park Eun Bin never misses.
Favourite quote: "Everyone's situation is different, we all fight with the resources that are available to us. If we start listing excuses, we'll lose again in the same situation." Tags: sport drama, found family, no romance
It's Okay Not to be Okay - 10/10 Finished 2023-07 This was a slow start for me because I found the main female lead so annoying at first. But trust me she grows on you. Literally one of my fave dramas now. The emotions are SO real, I was crying constantly. Very attached to this little trio now. And the parallels of the beginning and ending are soooo good. All the characters have so much character growth, some of the best writing I’ve seen in a kdrama.
Favourite line: "Your body is honest. When you're in physical pain, you cry. But the heart is a liar. It stays quiet even when it's hurting." Tags: enemies to lovers, autism, mental health
Alchemy of Souls - 10/10 Finished 2023-10 Absolutely binged this. Such a fun watch. The lore is really cool too. My only thing is I LOVED the female lead from S1 and it felt weird not to have her in the second season. Also second season felt a bit rushed on the ending. Otherwise perfection.
Favourite line: "If you stabe me, then I wil die as the one who released the assassin. If you withdraw your sword, I will make you another promise." Tags: fantasy, enemies to allies to lovers, magic, love triangle
Love to Hate You - 10/10 Finished 2024-04 Incredible binge watch. Only 10 episodes, and all about 40 min or less. They don't get distracted by any unnecessary side stories and really just focus on the characters. Both the ML and FL are incredible, and the secondary couple is just as cute. I will forever remember the look that he gives her when she finally says I love you back. A great mix of comedy and swoony romance.
Favourite line: "I can stand other people hating me, but I can’t live with hating myself." Tags: enemies to lovers, idol drama, fake dating, badass FL x soft boi ML
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo - 9.5/10 Finished 2023-08 Too cute for it’s own good. Male lead is adorable. Only docking points for some of the weird mentions of the female lead’s weight and her being ‘ugly’. Otherwise the perfect drama. Great for a light watch as there isn’t much drama between the couple really, they communicate well and most of the tension is in their family and career.
Favourite line: "You fool, I like you. Not as a friend, but as a woman. If I don't see you, I get curious. If you're depressed, I get upset. If you smile, it makes me happy. If you're sick, I get worried. It's driving me crazy. It means I like you, doesn't it?" Tags: friends to lovers, childhood friends, sports drama, college drama, romcom
Descendants of the Sun - 9.5/10 Finished 2023-09 Beautiful. So sad. Chemistry is insane between the main leads. I cried so much. Also the friendships between all the characters are really great. The plot too is amazing. Only docking it a half point because some of the military propaganda is a bit much for me, otherwise perfect.
Favourite line: "Regarding the kiss, what should I do? Should I apologize for that? Should I confess my feeling to you?" Tags: exes to lovers, military drama, melodrama
Vincenzo - 9/10 Very addicting, plot is crazy fun. Leads have so much chemistry. Some episodes ran on a bit though. Tags: revenge, legal drama, workplace romance
The King's Affection - 9/10 Love the premise. Essentially a gayer Mulan plotline. Rowoon is cute AND badass. Also can’t believe this is the same Park Eun Bin as Attorney Woo?? The range!!! Tags: fl disguised as a man, historical drama, kinda gay
Love All Play - 9/10 Only docking a point because Taejun’s whole family deserved the shit beat out of them instead of a stupid redemption arc. Otherwise the perfect romance angst. Taejun is THE green flag. Tags: sports drama, college drama, partners to lovers
Soundrack #1 - 9/10 Beautiful. Short. Simple. Some of my favourite leads. Great winter watch if you’re feeling like some cozy, friends to lovers vibes. Tags: friends to lovers, winter, music
Mr Queen - 9/10 Really good, really funny. Just wish the ending was more gay. Tags: body swap, time travel, historical drama, comedy
Start-up - 9/10 I can’t believe how underrated this one is. First love triangle story that actually had me questioning who I wanted to be endgame. The male leads are written so beautifully and they are both so complex and interesting. And the female lead has you rooting for her so much. I also really loved how they wrote such an insecure male lead, the character development was amazing to watch and Nam Joo Hyuk crushed it as per usual. Tags: workplace romance, paid to date you, love triangle
Happiness - 9/10 Really really good. I always thought it would be interesting to get a zombie story post pandemic. I just think some of the directing wasn’t great near the end. Some of the scenes just needed to hit a bit harder for me, considering I know how good this cast is in other dramas. Tags: zombies, friends to lovers, fake married, cohabitation
Dr Romantic 2 & 3 - 9/10 If you like Grey's Anatomy for the crazy end of season events, this is the show for you. Wil ride, amazing chemistry with the leads, loveable found family. Tags: medical drama, found family, rivals to lovers
Hospital Playlist - 9/10 If you like Grey's Anatomy for the relationships and friendship however, this is the show for you. Medical stuff is sometimes boring in this one, but the found family and ships 100% make up for it. Also there's like 100 episodes of behind the scenes to watch and the cast is too cute. Tags: friends to lovers, slow burn romance, medical drama, found family, ensemble cast, music
Castaway Diva - 8/10 Loved the first 10 episodes. But felt it didn't wrap up great, especially with the romance. Tags: stranded on a desert island, music, childhood friends, finding your first love
Marry My Husband - 8/10 It's good, but kind of burnt out on revenge dramas with time travel. Villains were great though and Na In Woo is adorable. Tags: time travel, revenge, ml falls first
My Dearest - 8/10 The tension between these leads is unmatched. Also just a gorgeous show. Little too dramatic for me. Like after the tenth time they just missed each other, I wanted to pull my hair out. Also desperate for a little epilogue in the last episode. Tags: romance drama, historical, fated love
Oh My Ghost - 8/10 I love Jo Jung Suk, and with Park Bo Young??? Match made in heaven. I’m desperate for them to get on screen together again. Fun fantasy elements. Both characters have so many flaws but they develop so well. Tags: enemies to lovers (ish), ghost possession, restaurant drama
Welcome to Samdal-ri - 8/10 For the Hometown Cha Cha Cha fans for sure. Definitely under utilized Ji Chang Wook (where are the epic kisses pls), but overall the leads had incredible chemistry. 2nd ML was annoying as hell though. Give all the awards to the little girl. Tags: friends to lovers, exes to lovers, love triangle, middle-aged drama
Suspicious Partner - 8/10 Super cute. SO much chemistry. Bit too melodramatic for me and the second female lead is a bit one-dimensional. Really funny though and a decent legal drama. Tags: legal drama, enemies to lovers, workplace romance, cohabitation
Wedding Impossible - 8/10 Enemies to lovers plus a fake relationship to hide your bestie is gay. It's mostly really fun and silly, the FL is one of my favourite korean actors, but it falls a part a bit in the middle of the season. Would have been saved with more scenes with Do Han and exploring what it means to be gay in Korea. Even just more scenes where he's happy. Great finale and fluff throughout for our main leads though. Tags: Enemies to lovers, fake wedding, beard for my gay best friend, idol story
Melting Me Softly - 8/10 Really great premise and the chemistry of the leads is unmatched. Don’t be fooled by the branding, this is very much more of a rom com than a melodrama. Really liked the directing too, beautiful show. Tags: time travel, shared fate, workplace romance
Revenge of Others - 8/10 You know I love a good revenge thriller. Very good series, incredibly gritty for a high school drama. Twist at the end was kind of meh though. And also wish there was more romance as the leads were so cute. Tags: little to no romance, high school drama, revenge
While You Were Sleeping - 8/10 Really great premise. The main trio are all so good. I just think some of the romance drama near the end was a bit annoying. Shoulda been like 3 episodes shorter, just got a bit tiresome. Tags: shared fate, fantasy (ish), legal drama
Fight For My Way - 8/10 Very cute friends to lovers. Great chemistry between the leads. Very similar vibe to Weighlifting Kim Bok Joo, just wish the last episode was a bit more impactful. Tags: friends to lovers, sports, college friends
King the Land - 8/10 Very cute and fluffy. Love both leads. Liked how there was no unnecessary drama between them. Really healthy relationship. Just not my favourite plot of all time, hasn’t hooked me like other shows. Tags: workplace romance, chaebol ml, hotel management
Crash Landing on You - 8/10 Definitely hooks you. Starts to drag in the last 5 episodes with too much melodrama. But I loved how they switched it up mid-way through. Really engaging. Also the chemistry with the leads is unreal, makes sense that they’re married in real life now. Tags: found family, north korea, enemies to lovers, melodrama
Moon in the Day - 8/10 Very solid fantasy romance. Found it a bit boring though in the middle. Kim Young Dae is defs underrated though. Hopefully this will kickstart him as a lead now. Tags: fantasy, loved each other in a past life, revenge, enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers again
Sh**ting Stars - 8/10 Like 90% fluff. Also cool to see the behind the scenes of k actor management. Lee Song Kyung literally plays enemies to friends to lovers perfectly. Nearly same love story as Dr Romantic and Bok Joo, love to see it. Tags: enemies to friends to lovers, college friends, acting drama
Business Proposal - 8/10 It’s pretty good, but very trope-y. If you like a chaebol romance or workplace romance you’ll love it. It just didn’t surprise me that much, so very middle of the road. One of the few times that I actually was more obsessed with the secondary love story than the main. Tags: workplace romance, fl pretending to be someone else
Let's Talk About Chu - 8/10 Kind of ridiculous but surprisingly deep and heartwarming. Loved the chemistry of all the couples. Tags: sex positive, queer secondary couple, friends with benefits, taiwanese
Destined with You - 7/10 Another drama where the chemistry of the leads really carry the show. Also Rowoon is so talented. I like the premise, but the execution was kinda messy and the first few episodes kinda drag until they let Rowoon being a goofy boi. Must watch though if you love fluff and soft bois. Tags: enemies to lovers, love potion, fantasy, past life, betrayal
W: Two Worlds - 7/10 Despite wanting to rewatch this show constantly, it is kind of a hot mess. Really fun though, just the plot is like a yo-yo. Insane chemistry with the leads. Tags: fantasy, love across universes (webtoon comes to life)
Lovestruck in the City - 7/10 Great show and then the last episode is just like really a bummer. The main couple are super cute though and I like the jumping back to the beach town. Good summer watch! Not sure I really like the mockumentary style, but it’s quite cute. Tags: mockumentary, short episodes, summer romance, exes to lovers
So I Married the Anti-Fan - 7/10
The beginning and middle are really good and cute. Ending is just kind of rushed and feels a bit disjointed from the plot. Overall fun rom com though!
Tags: rom com, enemies to lovers, kpop idol
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon - 7/10 It’s very cute, but just way too fluffy for me, especially near the end. It’s a good light watch if you’re looking for something like that. Highly recommend watching the behind the scenes of this series too, because Park Hung Sik is just so in love with Park Bo Young and it’s adorable. Tags: workplace romance, superpowers, comedy
Hometown Cha Cha Cha - 7/10 This was my very first drama so I really need to rewatch it as I don’t know if my review is just because it’s aged in my brain. But it’s very cute, very wholesome. Supporting cast is incredible. My only real issue with it is I don’t love the female lead as much as I like other leads, just didn’t root for her as much as I would have liked. Tags: small town, enemies to lovers, found family
Forecasting Love and Weather - 7/10 Bit boring, but the chemistry is unreal between the leads. Really good twist near the beginning that still sticks with me. Also love seeing Song Kang as little puppy dog heart of gold boi. Tags: noona romance, workplace romance
See You in My 19th Life - 7/10 Love the premise and the leads are amazing. Female lead in particular nails the role. Just a bit too melodramatic for me. Another one where the side characters really make the show, especially her sister. Tags: past lives, childhood friends, murder mystery
Vagabond - 7/10
Great action thriller, the political plot had me the whole time. Suzy never misses. But it ended on a cliffhanger and I wish I’d known that before. Especially since Season 2 hasn’t been announced 😭 Otherwise the romance is great, ML is incredible.
Tags: action romance, enemies to lovers, spy thriller
My Holo Love - 5/10 Kinda just meh. Like it was cute and fun but nothing special. Female lead was really good though. Also I do like the plot around face blindness, just not super memorable as a show in general. Tags: mystery, ml shut in
Love Alarm - 3/10 Too cringe and immature for me I think. Interesting premise though. Song Kang is really good in it (although he plays a massive red flag again lol), I just really didn’t like the other male lead to be honest. Tags: love triangle, fated love, fantasy (ish), red flag ml

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bokjoo
This kdrama is like a breath of fresh air in my opinion, it is everything that you need in a lighthearted drama. The humor, the seriousness, the romance. It just hits everything perfectly. I think this one is very popular on some platforms but not that widely known like others.
This story is completely fulfilled by the amazing work of the lead couple. They are both amazing actors and I just love when you can tell and feel the romance or emotions through the screen, and they're able to execute this perfectly.
The side characters are just that, they're able to lift the story to what it is but they don't overshine on the leads which is something I've noticed happens a lot on other dramas. In this the side characters are perfect for context and play.
It's just really good in every aspect and it is 100% rewatchable which makes it that much more enjoyable.
Plot: 90
Acting: 90
Ending: 100
TOTAL: 93/100

(Old ranking - go to my blog for updated rankings)
My rankings/reviews of all the k dramas I have seen so far (up to 26 now). My top 5 has been cracked by 2 shows! Netflix k-dramas are just killing it. I would recommend any show I gave a C grade or higher. I bolded the 5 new dramas I’ve added.
*= reserving the right to change ranking after season 2.
1) Hometown Cha Cha Cha: An absolute masterpiece. It’s a heartwarming fish out of water story about a big city girl who finds herself in the quirkiest little seaside town. I wanted to stay in Gongjin forever. Grade: A+(Netflix)
2)*Extraordinary Attorney Woo (S1): The most delightful show ever. Never have I ever rooted for a lead harder. She is the most endearing lead you will ever find. And the male lead is THE standard by which all men will forever be judged. Grade: A+(Netflix)
3)Business Proposal: Bumped this up again cause it’s the show I have the urge to rewatch the most. I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s got every trope you can think of and it does them all to perfection. Plus it’s hilarious. Grade: A (Netflix)
4)*Alchemy of Souls (S1): Episodes 1-19 were the perfect blend of fantasy, adventure, mystery, comedy, and romance. With so many characters who are so lovable. Episode 20 will destroy you. Counting the seconds till season 2. Grade: A (Netflix)
5)Her Private Life: Super funny and charming. The romantic leads have incredible chemistry. The premise is so good! Might be the one of the most rewatchable kdramas. Grade: A (Netflix)
6)Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung: Great strong female lead. Very good messages. Couldn’t stop watching. The most adorable prince I’ve ever seen 💜Cha Eunwoo💜 Grade: A (Netflix)
7)Sh**ting Stars: Probable the biggest turnaround of any show I’ve seen (The “Africa” part was so problematic). However it turned out to be one of the funniest and swooniest KDramas out there. There are 5 couples and you will cheer for all of them. Grade: A- (Viki)
8)Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: The main couple is absolutely everything! Just fast forward through pretty much every side plot (they are not important) and you’ll love it. Grade: A- (Viki)
9)So I Married the Anti-Fan: It’s campy, fluffy, goodness, with a fierce female lead and a K-pop star enemy/love interest. Fastest binge of my life. Grade: A- (Viki)
10)Start-Up: Exceptional acting, compelling storylines, intriguing plot twists, great cinematography, intense love triangle. It’s just all around high quality. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
11)Run On: Cute, fun, silly and pretty light. I especially loved the supporting cast. Strange storyline but it was a fun easy ride. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
12)Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo: A bad-ass yet vulnerable female lead. The main couple just had a lot of fun together. Refreshing. Grade: B+ (Viki)
13)I Am Not A Robot: I was surprised I really liked this one. This goes in the zany premise category but it was surprisingly pretty grounded for how crazy the set up was. It’s funny, emotional, good story telling. Great character development. Grade: B+ (Viki)
14)Shopping King Louie: Adorable! Luis is too cute. I love it how he bops along like a penguin and his cute little screams at bugs. And Bok Sil is the warmest character, you just have to root for her. So many light fluffy feels for this show but it does drag a bit in the second half. Grade B (Viki)
15)Fight For My Way: Such lovable leads. Love the fierce female lead and adorable himbo male lead. It’s like a coming of age story but for 30 year olds. Storyline was ok. Second couple was skippable. Grade: B (Viki)
16)What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim: More PSJ is always a good thing. This drama did all the tropes in ways that didn’t always feel fresh, but it was very romantic and hilarious. A true classic. Grade: B (Viki)
17)Touch Your Heart: If you can just stick it out through the first few very shaky episodes, you will enjoy this adorable, fluffy, series. Grade: B- (Netflix)
18)Doom at Your Service: It was sometimes real sad yet ultimately a heart warming mystical story. Grade: B- (Viki)
19)True Beauty: Fun, cute, teen drama however, it’s a little too “antsy teen” for me. Cha Eunwoo though💜 Grade: C+ (Viki)
20)Suspicious Partner: Great story, great characters, attractive actors, beautiful romance, interesting plot, sometimes funny, sometimes suspenseful, but with 40 episodes, the plot was dragged so far out that it became hard to get through. Grade C+ (Viki)
21)Crash Landing On You: The first half is GREAT but the second half is way too melodramatic for my taste. It’s a very interesting storyline, the main couple has insane chemistry, and there are very lovable side characters. Grade: C+ (Netflix)
22)My Love From the Star: The main relationship is incredibly intense. I just wanted to find out what happened to them so I ended up fast forwarding through everything else. The age difference in the flashbacks creeped me out. Grade D+ (Viki)
23)My Secret Romance: The story of a total screw up female lead falling for a manipulative, gaslighting, hottie. It was problematic yet fun? So 🤷‍♀️ Grade: D+ (Netflix)
24)Our Beloved Summer: I LOVED V’s “Christmas Tree” OST however I struggled to keep watching. Boring storyline but great acting. Grade: D+ (Netflix)
25)Goblin: The age gap is too disturbing for me, like call the police disturbing. However, the Grim Reaper who is one of the most adorable characters I’ve ever seen. Grade: D- (Viki)
26)Extra-Ordinary You: I have never felt so betrayed by a second half of a series as I did in this one. All of the character development that it seemed to be leading to was replaced by a pretty sickening codependent relationship. Grade: D- (Viki).
Currently Watching: Today’s Webtoon (kinda blah), She Would Never Know (idk yet), Romance is a Bonus Book (loving it), 100 Days My Prince (so far so good).
Looking Forward To: Love In Contract, Alchemy season 2!
What are your thoughts on these shows? Do you agree or disagree with my rankings? Any k-romcom recommendations that are not on the list yet?

Soundtrack of My Life: 2020 (Mid-Year)
Tumblr media
In my junior year of high school, I enrolled in a honors creative writing course called ‘Search for Self.’ The class helped students discover personal identity, meaning and purpose through a series of creative writing prompts and literature. A few solid reads that I recall from this class include A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Pearl. My favorite assignment that came out of this class was one called ‘Soundtrack of My Life.’ Each student was asked to curate a music album composed of 10 select songs and write a paragraph for each song about its context to your life. It was an assignment that really complemented my “ikigai” and I’ve made a conscious effort to continue doing this assignment periodically over the years. Music is one of the few constants in my life and best illustrates my mental health and headspace in that time and moment. After nearly a decade, it is refreshing to go back and review the different genres of songs I was feeling during that time in my life, as well as which songs have truly stayed with me and still remain in my ‘top 10.’
Bullet Train Fantasy by Ibrahim and Luvbird Considered as part of the “chillhop” lofi family, this song is perfect for one of those days when your head is in the clouds. It is very much a song that I can imagine myself listening to while riding the Shinkansen bullet train while casually eating a bento box and sipping an iced green tea. The past few months have all blurred together and sort of feels like riding a bullet train with no destination in sight (think Snowpiercer). The question in all of our minds is just when will the train stop and we’ll be finally let out to breathe?
“From Now On (앞으로)” by Kim Min Seung (김민승) When shelter-in-place first took place, it had me (along with many others I’m sure) spiral down into a dark rabbit hole of binge watching K-dramas. The first drama I binged was ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo,’ which stars Lee Syung-Kung and Nam Joo Hyuk. Highly recommend this one to anybody looking for a lightweight drama as it is an innocently adorable, quirky and easily consumable slice of life series. “From Now On” was one of the drama’s main theme song that brought an upbeat and optimistic energy whatever scene it was overlaid over. I can confirm that my mood definitely perks whenever I hear it playing!
“Heartburn (Jarami Remix)” by Wafia Very few people know this about me but I actually suffered from constant heartburn during my adolescent years. I never had it diagnosed but my assumption was that the pulses were triggered by a poor diet and lack of exercise. It has since disappeared but was always a mystery to me growing up and I’d always ask myself, “Tell me, why does my heart burn this way?” That being said this time around the relapse is a different sort of heartburn.
“Yummy (Summer Walker Remix)” by Justin Bieber Seriously, don’t even bother asking. I am ashamed to say how weirdly obsessed I am with this song because it’s just so…damn… catchy. And yes, I am well aware that the lyrics are horrendous and the meaning behind the song is pretty disturbing. I do think I gain a few redemption points since I prefer the Summer Walker Remix over the original. Summer’s voice adds just a touch of sophistication and balances an otherwise repetitive song.
“Airplane Mode” by Younha I first heard this song in 2019 but it has since resurfaced. This song helped me build a deeper connection with a person who had a completely different taste in literally everything than me. It was truly a monumental moment to be able to identify commonality. I truly value the importance of turning on airplane mode both literally and figuratively. The song reminds me to disconnect from my phone which seems to be spewing nothing but bad news across the world recently as well as investing in self-care time. A minute detail, but I love how the intro to the song starts with the raw shutter sound of a DSLR camera.
“Crashin” by Saint Wknd & Dirty Radio If there was a song that gives me all the “start of summer” feels, it would be this one. This song had already convinced me that this summer was going to be an amazing one and surprisingly, it was! When I listen to this song, I feel as if I’m ready to go somewhere and gives me the confidence and swagger to go about my everyday routine. If you see me walking around with a bit more pep to my stride, chances are I’m probably listening to this song.
“Paper Hearts” by Tori Kelly I first heard of Tori Kelly from her “Rocketeer” cover with AJ Rafael way back in the day before her rise to fame. From that cover alone, I was sold and convinced that she would eventually blow up. I love Tori’s angelic voice and she’s one of the few artists that sound just as good live (if not better) as online. Last year, I organized at a dance series workshop and the choreographer chose this song which made me fall in love with it. The choreography felt very fitting with the lyrics and definitely challenged the class to “feel” the song more and be more interpretive with the movements.
“If You Were Here I’d be Okay” by David Choi This was one of those songs that I distinctly remember binge listening to in the car during my adolescent years. It would give me the energy to get me through the morning grind (clearly this was before I discovered coffee). I’ve recently been on a mission to clean out my files and just happened to stumble across this song amongst my old journal entries. To this day, I’m still shocked that this song didn’t blow and gain the recognition it deserved. The only live video I could find of David performing this song is here – check it out. (skip to 1:18)
“Less of You” by Keshi Yes, yet another lofi song has made my top 10 list! I love all of Keshi’s songs but this one in particular really captures the rawness of his voice which is complimented with the guitar instrumental. There is a sentimental quality to the undertones that really add to the “pain” of the song that is very relatable. I would also like to call out the looping gif on Spotify of this song because it’s truly a mood.
“The Space Between” by Cleopold I find myself more often than I’d like to admit “dancing in the space between” in my everyday life. It can be difficult to get out of and I find it a major blocker when it comes to decision making. Sometimes it works in my favor but other times it doesn’t. This song was perhaps one of the first songs that I started listening to towards the beginning of the year and it gets my juices flowing which is perfect for a good run outside of home workout.

At that time, the storekeeper had the intention of "bad luck" with her and her friends. When she and her friends were folding chairs, she accidentally saw the storekeeper wearing his daughter's panties. She kept insisting that Joon Hyung was a pervert because she had previously picked up her daughter's handkerchief dropped by Joon Hyung. During a chase for the pervert, Bok-Joo mistakenly caught Joon Hyung because he was wearing the same outfit as the pervert. The handkerchief was very important to him and he started looking for it. After leaving Kim Bok-Joo accidentally picked up a handkerchief of Jung Joon Hyung. Jung Joon Hyung felt her face was very familiar feeling like he had met her before. One day on campus Kim Bok-Joo crashed into Jung Joon Hyung while he was riding a bicycle. He lives with his adoptive parents (actually uncle and aunt) and cousin Jung Jae-Yi (Lee Jae-Yoon). My Top 5 KDrama Recs
you're in for a bumpy ride *finger guns*
#5 - weightlifting fairy kim bok joo/ strong girl do bong soon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
such feel good dramas. if you're looking for a light hearted watch, something to get you out of your kdrama slump, this one's for you. strong girls, cheesy simp boys, good friendships and good feels all around. ignore the sub plot in do bong soon and you'll be happier than ever.
#4 - doom at your service
Tumblr media
the thing. with this. was. I LOVED THE CONCEPT. ive basically ranted about the concept in the review, but yes. the visuals are pretty good, with some cute rain and garden scenes and fated for each other thingamajig. little girl god is there, bonus visuals of seo in guk reversing with hand on back of car seat and parking ticket in his mouth. ps - second couple was everything.
#3 - vincenzo
Tumblr media
Hollywood should really stop trying to make action/crime/mafia movies because Vincenzo made me believe koreans have cracked the code. i mean, the action, the subtle romance, the equal bad assery of BOTH male and female leads, + some really iconic lines. you WILL NOT find a hotter villain (jang han seok ily), a more annoying side villain ( choi myeong hui die again), or a better character arc ( jang han seo my beloved). amazing.
#2 - our beloved summer
Tumblr media
welcome to me ranting about my favs again. very topsy turvy but feel good drama, slow and equal paced with real people. it's a heavy watch, so be sure you're ready when you dive in. it takes some time to love it, but once you do, you love it too much.
#1 - guardian: the lonely and great god
Tumblr media
gong yoo and lee dong woo. that should be enough reason. plotline 5 stars, action, visuals 4 stars, romance 4.5 stars, bromance 174634 stars, second lead couple 5 stars, JUST WATCH IT
again, im still in the process of watching new dramas, so I'll put up a new and updated list soon!

Dramas I Watched in 2021
Happy New Year!  Here are the dramas I watched in 2021 and what I thought of them.
Tumblr media
Hotel Del Luna
7.5/10
1st watch – Wow. I don’t know quite what I was expecting from this drama, but it was so different!  And I mean that in a good way.  Man Wol reminded me a lot of Moon Young of It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (which I know, chronologically, should be the other way around) and I still had love in my heart for IU from Dream High, otherwise I might not have warmed to her as quickly as I did.  The mystery of the hotel, Man Wol, and the ghostly hotel staff was well done and the romance between our leads was touching.  What shocked me the most was that drama had some hard truths that it really stuck to (I won’t elaborate in case you haven’t seen it).  I think that added to the charm, though, and will make it stay in my heart for a long time to come.
Tumblr media
Tale of the Nine Tailed
7/10
1st watch – Kim Bum is back, friends!  Hello! He was fantastically bratty as Lee Rang and I enjoyed seeing Lee Dong-wook again.  The show reminded me a little of The King: Eternal Monarch in that the guy has this long-standing love for this girl they’ve just met and the girl kind of just goes with it.  On one hand, shallow.  On the other hand, would I reject a lovestruck Lee Dong-wook??  It was a darker, more mythology-based drama than I was expecting, but I actually really love learning about Korean folklore.  It didn’t stick to its guns the way that Hotel del Luna did, but 1) I’m going to have to let that go and 2) the way the show wrapped up was pretty nice (with an opening for a sequel).  I like that this show had so much to do with the redemptive power of love.  I’m a sucker for character transformations!
Tumblr media
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
8/10
1st watch – After the dark trio that was Goblin, Hotel del Luna, and Tale of the Nine Tailed, Weightlifting Fairy was like sunshine.  I love me some dark dramas, but it was also nice to lighten up a little and enjoy some college romance fluff.  I think I am certifiably in love with Nam Joo-hyuk.  I have to say, it was a little jarring to see Lee Sung-kyung in this after Cheese in the Trap, but she made a lovable heroine and it was a testament to her acting that she can convincingly play such different characters. I love Kang Ki-young and he was incredibly charming as Bok Joo’s uncle.  The characters were so cute and added to the storytelling.  Bok Joo’s infatuation with the doctor was so scream-worthy because it was so relatable and so awkward at the same time.  This show just captured what it’s like to be unsure of yourself as a young adult and how you come into your own through those youthful experiences.
Tumblr media
Descendants of the Sun
6.5/10
1st watch – Finally watched a Song Joong Ki drama!  He did not disappoint.  Descendants of the Sun was a little cheesier than I expected it to be, but that doesn’t mean that I disliked it!  Maybe I’m just exhausted and skeptical, but I didn’t swoon over any of the romances in this one like I have in other shows.  I liked the way that the leads grew to appreciate each other and how they learned there is more than one way to be a hero.  It’s a drama worth watching and had some fun moments.  The guys have a fun bromance, which is always a win!  Why can’t I remember more about this drama?
Tumblr media
Hwarang
6.5/10
1st watch – Ok, I’ll come right out and say that I watched this for V (which is why I was a little sad when he wasn’t in the first few episodes like I was expecting).  I don’t know why I was expecting a super serious drama, but this is not one!  It was almost a little too silly for my liking, if I’m being honest, but I found myself laughing regardless and really endeared to the characters.  There is a climactic scene at the end of the series that had me fooled.  Watch it without taking yourself too seriously and it’s a fun ride!
Tumblr media
Mr. Sunshine
7/10
1st watch – Ever watched a drama and thought, “love triangles are nice but what about a love pentagon?!”  If so, watch Mr. Sunshine.  It’s a beautifully shot drama that explores a different time period than any of the historical dramas I’ve seen before, not that I’ve seen a lot.  The characters were tragic and complex (and so attractive…like, why???).  The theme of revenge and mercy were intriguing and painted every character gray rather than firmly on one moral side or the other.
Tumblr media
True Beauty
7/10
1st watch – Another cute breath of fresh air!  School dramas are just their own brand of fun.  Bring on the brooding but softhearted guys and the awkward but lovable gals!  We love it! Also, I think I have a disease called “falling for the second male lead” but that’s another story.  This drama had some laugh-out-loud ridiculous moments, as I would expect from a drama set in a high school.  The bullying did get to be pretty dark and hard to watch though. Overall a fun and generally lighthearted drama!
Tumblr media
Hospital Playlist 1 & 2
8/10
1st watch - Let me come out and say that I am an incredibly squeamish person. Incredibly.  There were definitely scenes where I missed the dialogue because I was looking away and couldn’t read the subtitles.  That being said, it is a really heart-warming series and I’m glad I watched it!  Being in the medical field is full of joys and sorrow, sometimes on the same day.  I don’t often cry watching TV, but this had me in tears a few times, for heartbreaking moments as well as beautiful I-love-humanity moments.  The 5 main characters are each quirky and lovable in their own way.  I had a new favorite doctor each episode, I think! The second season has more of a focus on the love lines for each doctor, but does expand upon their group dynamics too. Bonus for ARMY, BTS is referenced a few times in the show (first season).
Tumblr media
Squid Game
9/10
1st watch – THIS SHOW.  This is not the typical drama that I watch, but my gosh was it engaging and horrifying. Nearly everyone and their dog watched this drama, it seems!  I have to say, it was really fun to see it take the world by storm.  The show was beautifully shot and soundtracked and the actors were phenomenal.  I can be a bit squeamish to gore, but I didn’t have much of a problem with the show (admittedly, my brother told me to look away during 2 specific scenes).  In the first episode, we see an organizer, so to speak, sit and watch the game play out on his TV.  We watch him watch the bloodbath with nonchalance and at the same time, is he us in that moment?  It’s thought provoking and worth all the hype.
Thanks for reading!  As always, I love drama recommendations, so send them my way if you’ve got them. I hope everyone has a wonderful year!  Stay healthy :)

(Old ranking - go to my blog for updated rankings)
My rankings/reviews of all the k dramas I have seen so far (up to 18 now).
I’ve got 3 new kdramas, one I loved, one that bored me but had a killer OST, and one that was pretty cringe. I bolded the new dramas. I also changed the order of some of my old rankings as I remember some dramas more fondly than others as time goes by. I would recommend any drama I gave a C grade or higher.
1) Hometown Cha Cha Cha: It’s an absolute masterpiece and delight. I want to live in that fictional community forever. Grade: A+(Netflix)
2) Her Private Life: Super funny and charming. The romantic leads have incredible chemistry. The premise is so good! Might be the most rewatchable of all the k dramas I’ve seen so far. Grade: A (Netflix)
3) Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung: Great strong female lead. Very good messages. Couldn’t stop watching. The most adorable prince I’ve ever seen 💜Cha Eunwoo💜 Grade: A (Netflix)
4)Business Proposal: I bumped this up cause it’s been a minute but I can’t stop thinking about this drama. It’s got every trope you can think of and it does them all to perfection. It’s so good and will make you feel all the good feels. Can someone please give me another rec that’s like this drama? I need those good feels in my life again. Grade: A (Netflix)
5)Sh**ting Stars: Probable the biggest turnaround of any show I’ve seen (The “Africa” part was so bad - who thought that was ok?). Thankfully the show did a total 180 and quickly became one of my all time favorites. If you at all are interested in the world of celebrities and want to laugh, then swoon, then cry, then swoon again, I think you’ll really like it. I loved every single supporting character. All of their storylines were incredibly interesting. Plus it really makes you examine yourself as a fan and how you view/treat celebrities. One of the funniest and swooniest KDramas out there. Grade: A- (Viki)
6)Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: The main couple is absolutely everything! Just fast forward through pretty much every side plot (they are not important) and you’ll love it. Grade: A- (Viki)
7)So I Married the Anti-Fan: It’s campy, fluffy, goodness, with a fierce female lead and a K-pop star enemy/love interest. Fastest binge of my life. Grade: A- (Viki)
8)Start-Up: Exceptional acting, compelling storylines, intriguing plot twists, great cinematography, intense love triangle. It’s just all around high quality. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
9)Run On: Cute, fun, silly and pretty light. I especially loved the supporting cast. Strange storyline but it was a fun easy ride. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
10)Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo: A bad-ass yet vulnerable female lead. The main couple just had a lot of fun together. Refreshing. Grade: B+ (Viki)
11)Touch Your Heart: If you can just stick it out through the first few very shaky episodes, you will enjoy this adorable series. Grade: B (Netflix)
12)Doom at Your Service: It was sometimes real sad yet ultimately a heart warming mystical story. Grade: B (Viki)
13)What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim: it felt a bit formulaic at times but the main couple has great chemistry and the supporting cast are hilarious. Grade: B- (Viki)
14)True Beauty: I recently bumped this drama up because its actually aged well in my memory. However, it’s a little too much of an antsy teen drama for my taste. Cha Eunwoo though💜 Grade: C (Viki)
15)Crash Landing On You: The first half is GREAT but the second half is way too melodramatic for my taste. It’s a very interesting storyline, the main couple has insane chemistry, and there are very lovable side characters. Grade: C (Netflix)
16)My Secret Romance: I just kept thinking, “He’s awful. This is abuse of power! The mind games! Such in inappropriate boss behavior. Everything he says is gaslighting. Run the other way girl! So many red flags. Was this filmed on an iPhone 6?” But I also kept thinking, “Why can’t I stop watching this? He’s so pretty. They have great chemistry. This is problematic yet fun?” So 🤷‍♀️ Grade: D+ (Netflix)
17)Our Beloved Summer: V’s “Christmas Tree” OST was my favorite part of this drama. It always set the mood perfectly and made me momentary forget how bored I was with this drama. I realize that this is a very good critically acclaimed drama but to me it felt like it was basically about two people who were in love but inexplicably broke up and follows their lives as they start to call each other but then decide not to, over and over and over again. If you like more “deep” dramas you’ll probably like it but I’m simple minded I guess. Grade: D+ (Netflix)
18)Goblin: The age gap is too disturbing for me, like call the police disturbing. The only redeeming part for me was the Grim Reaper who is one of the most adorable characters I’ve ever seen. He saved it from totally failing for me. Grade: D- (Viki)
Currently Watching: Fight For My Way (and loving it)
What are your thoughts on these shows? Do you agree or disagree with my rankings? I’m kinda at a loss about what I should watch next. Thoughts? Is there a Business Proposal/ Sh**ting Stars type show out there that I haven’t watched yet? I have a list of shows to watch but I just want a high quality, light, campy, funny, swoony, easy to watch, show.

'Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo' Taught Me That When You're Tired, Rest, Don't Quit
Tumblr media
I have a LOT OF FEELINGS for this show. I am going to leave it at that.
The Story:
Kim Bok-joo, our young weightlifter finds no greater joy than when she's lifting weights. Her ultimate dream is to bag a gold medal. She's loud, huge, can break a few teeth when messed with and has the softest, purest heart. Her father, Kim Chang Gul runs a fried chicken joint and is as animated as his daughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jung Joon-Hyun, is an upcoming star-athlete in the swimming department whose main struggle is to not mess up during the start-time of a race. Being one of the prettiest boys on campus, he suffers from abandonment issues & a rough heartbreak. However, he's got a killer smile and a warm heart that's open to healing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story pans around different subjects:
From the life of university athletes, to how love can be right next to you even when you cannot see it,
From addressing what it means to 'be and look like a woman', to how friendship is the knight in shining armor during your darkest times,
From what it means to be a team, to how choosing yourself over others is sometimes exactly what you need,
From unabashedly chasing your crush to knowing how 'family' goes beyond blood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This drama was such a wonderful surprise for me. It is hilarious, sweet, impactful and a deeply comforting friend, especially when you need a pick-me-up. I am already planning a slow re-watch so that I can truly savor it, once again.
My favorite bits about the show include: ~ Bok-joo's refreshing personality and her confidence in being who she is.🐷 ~ Her heartwarming relationship with her father, Chang Gul  🐷 ~ Coach Choi Sung Eun and her strength + badassery 🐷 ~ First love 🐷 ~ Chung Nan Hee's pickup line of the millennium: "Do you like Messi?" 🐷 ~ 'Swag' 🐷 ~ Joon-Hyun and Bok-joo (forever and everrrrrrrrrrr) 🐷
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Learnings:
1. The questions is: how beautiful are you on the inside? It was so nice to see a female lead character that focused on being beautiful within. I loved how Bok-joo never lost her innocence or the essence of who she is. For her, all that mattered was having a good heart.
Tumblr media
2. And when you're tired, learn to rest, not quit This was my favorite learning. As we watch Bok-joo struggle with her love for weightlifting and this deep, repressed desire to do things that girls her age explore, it is heartwarming to see her take a break from her passion without entirely giving up on it. I'd like to give a small shoutout to her father, Chang Gul for being an absolute cutie and supporting her.
Tumblr media
3. Some people are like sunshine and they deserve to be kept warm Joon-Hyun is one such person who lights up in Bok-joo's presence, while she feels thoroughly comfortable in her skin with him. It is this ease and this love between them that makes you realize how people can be each other's suns and moons.

My last words:
