I finally watched That Episode (2x08) of What If
God I hope these episodes are standalone like last season, because I haven’t watched the other episodes yet
Also he’s in it more than just that one scene, right?
I’m dead already
I know everyone’s already said it but Peak Sibling Energy
“Another”?!
NO. I will not ship this. I will not ship this. I will not ship Loki and Captain Carter.
Is this answered in previous episodes, but why is Thor just chilling there? Where are your powers, fam?
Oh actually maybe I ship Peggy and Hela. Hela’s already gay in the comics.
Okay I have a lot of questions
“Poor Yorick!” has me looking into the camera like I’m on The Office
Wait why is Loki also just standing there? Did Hela inherit all the powers?
I feel like there’s continuity I should’ve backtracked for. I apologize if these questions piss you off. I probably should have started from the top, but LOKI.
Oh wait, here’s some context. Cold open. Got it.
Oi, Watcher, stop meddling
Ooh, traitor Fury. I like it
Where’s Loki?
Tony!
Tony, no opium!
There’s my boi. He would say the play is about Iago.
ROGERS HOOD
Fuck no now I need Steve/Loki Robin Hood AU fics IMMEDIATELY
Cap looks hot like this
Bucky and Scott are the Merry Men? This episode is truly a gift, I’m dead
MAID MARGARET
Hey, since I’m insufferable about this irl, you also get to hear about it because it’s somehow become relevant. I’m related to one of the women who inspired Maid Marian (not Robin Hood though, unfortunately. I’m descended from her first husband).
NO. I will not ship Bucky and Scott
Where’s Sam?
Why is Happy Hogan also the Hulk? This is such a ridiculous joke. How many people watching are gonna get that?
Bruce!!! Glad he’s also here though
I came here for Loki and I ended up shipping Bucky and Scott?!
Loki I love you
Is Hogan supposed to be the fucking Sheriff of Nottingham?
Is he a Hulk? I don’t know enough about Happy or Hulk villains or Thor villains and I’m confused
Ooh burn. I’d say you’re about equally dramatic, but sure
Oh no now I ship Loki/Wanda
Okay but why does Loki spend that entire episode doing absolutely nothing but be a lazy, gay theater kid? They completely depowered him.
That being said, I might end up writing an entire thing about how the only thing of substance we see him do is something compassionate. Does he fight? Nope. Does he cast a single spell? Nope. The only thing he does is when all hope seems lost and Wanda is no longer able to hold back the power of the rift, he goes to her and he protects her with his body. And oh my god what the fuck I’m going to be thinking about that single shot forever.
And now I really need to start from the beginning of the season. Give me [mumbles a number incoherently] months.

Do you think Hydra Stomper Steve is still alive and that Peggy will see him again, whenever What If Season 3 is? Or do you think Captain Carter might be interacting with other variant Steves from now on and that HS Steve truly died in the destruction of the Red Room?
My best guess is that he is still alive, and that we (and Peggy) will see him again (just based on the narrative arc of the series so far). But I guess we'll find out!
I was just thinking about why, in-universe, Peggy's so sure he's still alive even though it looked very likely he was blown up, and - maybe it's because she believed he was dead after the train in the first episode of S1, and it turned out he was alive then. So now she's not going to write him off so easily.

The other anons have it wrong. The 1602 episode wasn’t an entire alternate universe, it was what happens during an incursion. Steve’s alternate Infinity War universe was bumping into normal 1602. When Carter fixes it she’s stuck in a regular 1602 world with none of the avengers around because they’re all back in their own time. It was a temporary mashup reality not an entirely separate reality.
....yes, but my point still stands that you can't have characters be OOC just for convenience because then you're altering them at their core. You're supposed to just put them into new situations. So regardless of whether or not 1602 is a mash-up of realities or it's own reality, Loki's characterization still makes me grumpy

WHAT IF SEASON 2 ENDING SPOILERS
Wow this episode was a fantastic way to end the series. I know a lot of people were mad about the ending but personally for me, I enjoyed it! I kind of suspected that Supreme Strange would turn evil for being alone for too long which makes senses. AND THE CALL BACKS to episode 4 almost made me cry. It’s awesome that Kahhori and Peggy got to team up and we saw so many characters from season 1 like zombie Wanda and Killmonger. But in the end I like how all of the people got together and decided to give their weapons to Peggy and Kahhori to stop Strange. Especially Hela saying “Give him Hel!” was such a delight. But it’s so sad that Strange had to sacrifice himself in the end to create his world without him in it. And WE SAW THE WORLD TREE with Watcher and Peggy. It’s clear he has a favorite child 😜 I can’t wait for season 3 to come. What if is always such a wonderful series to watch. I’m so sad that it’s over 🥹🥲

what if 2x09 review
damn. that finale was so good!
i mean, obviously all the cool gimmicks like actually using the infinity stones, stranges various powers, quick thinking on everyones behalf, just that side of it was really good.
but the plot was also really good! i thought things went a little too easy with strange supreme in season 1, both because there werent a lot of consequences for his actions apparently, and he literally became a hero, it just all seemed a little off for a guy who just let his grief drive him to literally destroy the fabric of his own reality. an entire universe.
so, that was nice! also really getting to like Kahhori!
one thing that bothered me was that carter actually had to think for a minute whether she would go this far for steve, because i personally think thats ooc for her. like she said herself, she would never do THIS for steve.
love how all the falling heroes and villains caught on to what was happening and threw in their weapons to help the fight. although since a lot of them did actually fall into the forge, and the way their weapons worked (for example helas crown responding to peggy indicates that its the mercy based version from 2x07), im kinda worried that it basically undoes a lot of the previous episodes. could also be further variants of those, but still.
as for the whole season... im a sucker for long arcs, so i wouldve appreciated it if we got something overarching like in season 1, but these episodes were all so good that i dont really mind.
definitely looking forward to season 3!!

So here's a theory. I was thinking about the hela episode of what if and she says that line about her dad's new girlfriend Frigga, meaning Frigga is not Hela's mother which I can't remember if we had been told that before or not, I think we did but the reconfirmation got me thinking. Also something else that caught my attention was the scene of young hela with puppy fenris, it reminded me so much of the scene in 1x04 of Loki with young sylvie when she is playing with her toys. Which then got me thinking about Sylvie's family because we actually don't know much of anything about Sylvie's life or family before the TVA showed up. The conversation between Loki and Sylvie in 1x3 of Loki, where they talk about their mothers, is interesting because it could be an insinuation that Frigga is not Sylvie's adoptive mother.
Something else we don't know is who Hela's mother in the MCU is. Which brings me to my theory, what if in Sylvie's universe Odin never marries Frigga and it was actually Hela's mother who adopted Sylvie and not Frigga. That might explain why, unlike Loki, she wasn't taught magic as a child by her mother. Also Sylvie never mentions Thor or siblings at all, this could be because she doesn't remember them or it's too painful to talk about them (or the showrunners/ writers didn't think it was important enough to mention) or another possibility is that she never had siblings, maybe she was adopted after Hela was banished and if we go with the theory that Odin never marries Frigga and its Hela's mother who adopted Sylvie, then maybe in her universe Thor was never born.
I do think it could be an interesting idea to explore, how much of a difference it would make to have a loki raised by someone other than Frigga. It could show just how much of an impact being raised by Frigga and alongside Thor, really had on Loki.

Someoe call tree loki. Why did the 1602 universe get destroyed kf hes protecting yhe timelines
Loki doesn't interfere with what people do in each universe. That was the whole point of him destroying the loom and freeing the timelines. So everyone can have free will and control over their own life.
Steve in one of the universes had hit the time stone in Thanos' gauntlet while fighting him which resulted in the incursion of two universes. That causes the destruction of a universe. But I think when Steve touched the time stone the universes separated so people were saved.

hey galaxythreads. i think the 1602 verse has the ideal dynamics for the odinson kids. hela is queen instead of discarded. thor has all of his siblings safe in one place (well before the portal. rip hela). and loki is unburdened by the throne and is given the attention he yearns (theatre). like good for them. plus. they are all drama queens. good on carter for calling them out.
personally, I love the dysfunctional mess that COULD have been a post Ragnarok arc, but 1602 was kinda fun, i guess? It was just so...calm, lol. I hated Loki in it, he just felt like comic relief, but i think there's an interesting story to poke at (before the universe is being ripped into shreds and Hela is killed (rip)). Like if I wrote 1602, it would be so much darker, but the concept of the world appeals to me.
Idk, part of the appeal of the Odinsibs to me right now is NOT that they all get along, but that they don't. I love just smashing them together and letting them destroy each other while simultaneously putting the broken parts back together.
But captain Carter was absolutely right. Thor is WAAAAAAY more of a drama queen than Loki is. They're all awful about presentation and flashy entrances (love them for this), but Thor is just SO dramatic it's ridiculous. I love him for this. Have you guys seen that post about Thor's drama? i haven't seen it for a while, but every time it comes up i always feel so bad for Thor who missed out on his real calling:
being a supervillain.

What If...? 2x02 AU:
During the year 1988, the winter soldier was sent on a mission to take out the celestial child Peter Quill before he could take out Earth, another planet him and his father Ego would've destroyed. While waiting for the command to take the shot by his handler, his comms were intercepted by his old friend back from the 1940s, Howard Stark. He got through to him that day, and managed to bring Bucky back to the surface just enough to break free while hydra couldn't contact him. He spent about ten years on the run from hydra, trying to find himself again after suddenly regaining control of his body and mind after 46 years of torture and brainwashing by hydra. Eventually, he reached out to Peggy and Howard again.
After that, he was brought in by SHIELD, which slowly over time brought bucky back to the surface entirely. He worked as a double agent for SHIELD- While hydra thought they still had control of the winter soldier, he was acting as an undercover spy under shields command. It was risky, knowing if he stepped out of line and they used the code words, they'd have lost him to hydra all over again. With that in mind, Bucky did not assassinate Maria and Howard Statk in this universe. While he was free, to speak and do as he wanted- It was still under shields watch, being risky and unstable since they didn't yet have the technology to undo hydra command code words stuck in his head. For the next thirty years he practically worked on auto pilot, while he was there, could hold conversations and do things of his own free will- He didn't feel like him.
Not until Steve Rogers was found in the ice.
He sat by his side, waiting for him to wake up once he was unfrozen, in normal clothes as opposed to his gear. Told Fury the original plan wouldn't work on him, and he'd be more at ease seeing a familiar face- And he was. Around 2012 Bucky fell back into hydra hands and was once again hydras winter soldier, and Steve had to bring him back and find him, which resulted in him nearly beating him to death (mostly the regular events of the winter soldier). As such, he is eventually sent off to Wakanda, who said they could help him. It is several years before Steve sees him again, after their methods undid all of hydras brainwashing.
It is also the same universe T'challa became star lord instead of Peter Quill, and his father took up the black panther mantle instesd- And also one where a ten year old Peter Quill was later adopted by Hank Pym, who has custody of Hope after their mother died/disappeared on a S.H.I.E.L.D mission.

What if season 2 episode 8 spoilers!!!
Ok wtttfff this episode was just so much fun! The fact that Loki is just some theater loving emo rich kid and hela was the queen but then died (rip hela) and then Thor wanting to seek revenge for the death of his sister. So many sillies in this episode too. Steve as Robin Hood and Scott and Bucky as his merry men. Steve and Peggy were sooo cute (plus Loki cockblocking). Everything in this episode was just perfect. And Wanda was stunning. So many good things about this episode. But the end 😭😭😭 Steve having to sacrifice himself because he chased the universe to happen due to his fight with Thanos! AND SUPREME STRANGE COMING BACK!!! ARE THE GUARDIANS OF THE MULTIVERSE COMING BACK???!! PARTY THOR MIGHT BE RETURNING??? One more episode left and then it’s over 😞😞 However this episode was great! Super fun I’m probably going to watch it again!!! 😄
