Masumoto Tsubaki
Tumblr media
Age: 32
Birthday: 9 Aug | Leo
Nickname: Tsu-Tsu (only her mother referred to her as such)
Gender: Female
Affiliated Village: Amegakure
Status: S-Rank Missing Nin
Background:
Tsubaki grew up with only her mother until she was slaughtered by a Sunagakure shinobi. This left her to be an orphan and having to fend for herself. She managed to stay alive by stealing and working for the scum of Amegakure. Eventually being used by Hanzo; due to her exceptional natural talents as a sensory shinobi. It took sometime for her to loosen Hanzo’s hold on her and she was able to meet an orange haired boy one evening. The two of them attempted to steal the same bowl of rice from a local restaurant in the rainy village.
Managing to beat him to it, Tsubaki was going to let the boy go hungry at first but once she saw the look in his eyes that she herself has seen in her own reflection, she gave in. Tsubaki shared the bowl of rice and then the boy took her back to join two other orphans -- Konan and Nagato.
The four of them trained under the Konohagakure Sanin, Jiraiya. However, Tsubaki felt his mentoring to be more troublesome than helpful -- often going off on her own to tap into her sensory ninjutsu as well as a vibration manipulation.
The four of them formed a close bond and Tsubaki took a liking to the orange haired boy, Yahiko. Tensions rose between Konan and Tsubaki as Tsubaki felt Konan getting uncomfortably close to Yahiko. However, the orange haired, now young man solidified their relationship with a passionate kiss. The two talked about taking each other’s virginities but that never came to fruition.
Tsubaki desperately tried her hardest to reach Nagato and Yahiko on the day that shattered her world as well as the other Ame orphans. She arrived just in time to watch Yahiko thrust himself into Nagato’s kunai in order to save Konan’s life. Tsubaki collapsed in anguish and screamed as she watched her beloved die in Nagato’s hands. She merely sat by as Nagato released his strength and cradled Yahiko in her arms.
At first, Tsubaki blamed Nagato for not doing all that he could do. Even when the Uzumaki attempted to explain it to her, she refused to listen. Filled to the brim with pain and anger, she fled her village then chose to travel the different countries. Tsubaki spent different periods of times in each village, Sunagakure being her least favorite and her favorite being Konohagakure --.
There she met a handsome Jonin named Shiranui Genma. The two met at a local bar and the man offered the blue haired kunoichi a drink. She was hesitant to accept because she was unsure of his intentions but his charming smile and his comfortable nature caused her to give in.
The two spent a lot of time together and he fulfilled many if not all the promises that he gave to Tsubaki. She did not give up much information about herself or her past (things about the Ame orphans, helping forming the Akatsuki, and her forced shinobi work by Hanzo) but that didn’t bother the Leaf Jonin. Genma promised her that he would treat her well and he did. Maybe -- this would help Tsubaki move on from the hurt that she carried since Yahiko’s death.
But her reality would shatter when the man she thought was gone forever returned to her. He revealed himself to her in the hotel room that she was staying at in Konoha. Accompanied by the other blue haired kunoichi, Konan. Before her shaking eyes stood two people from her past, the most shocking being Yahiko. Tsubaki believed that he was a ghost or this was just a bad dream but when he spoke, she knew it was real. His face was now littered with piercings, his Amegakure forehead protector was marked through with a single gash, and his eyes were now the same as Nagato’s Rinnegan.
Yahiko who now was being addressed by the name “Pain” asked Tsubaki to once again aid him and fulfill the mission to be the God of a new world. Where everyone will feel pain and will understand it, no longer wishing to inflict it on one another ever again. Tsubaki accepted his offer and hoped that she could help him do whatever it is he needed.
Personality:
Tsubaki is typically a calm and collected woman. She is usually in constant thought and assesses all scenarios carefully as all possible outcomes are shuffled through mentally. She acts as a sort of manager of the Akatsuki, making sure everyone is pursuing their actions correctly. However, she is quick to anger and gets frustrated easily. That is her one downfall, especially in the battlefield.
She is quick to comebacks and is frequent to sarcastic replies to people that annoy her. Tsubaki is also quite the flirt when in the right mood. She was able to quickly woo over Hidan when attempting to draft him into the Akatsuki along with Konan.
She also is aware of her abilities and sometimes can talk about herself too much.
Underneath her placid emotional exterior, Tsubaki is a damaged individual. She is sensitive and that is why she is so quick to anger. However, during her time being under Hanzo’s control - she learned to control her exterior. Yahiko was able to push her buttons easily and always got a blush out of her cheeks.
Abilities:
Tsubaki is a powerful and talented kunoichi, specifically in her sensory abilities. Hanzo was able to help Tsubaki nearly triple her abilities by teaching her how to combine her ability to sense/read chakra with her manipulation of vibrations in the universe.
Tsubaki is able to detect chakra signals of individuals, animals, or any being that gives off any chakra. She is able to determine friends and foes by the different sensations and aura they give off. With the combination of her vibration techniques, she is able to sense the slightest changes in things like heartrate to determine a person’s nature. Things like lying are easily detected if she focuses her chakra heavily to places like her feet or palms, anything in the general area of the person. The further they are away from her, the harder it is to read their vibrations.
However, her vibration manipulation is utilized in different ways on the battlefield.
Vibrations are defined as a type of mechanical/physical energy and studied in physics. Atoms vibrate when the bonds within move and in a sense, are giving off energy. So, Tsubaki is able to manipulate this.
Ninjutsu: Vibration Trap No Jutsu: using vibrations in the air or ground, she can focus her chakra to her hands or feet to manipulate the subtle movements of her opponent. She can use her Vibration Hypnosis genjutsu to trap them easily within this ninjutsu as well. This works best with a partner because it is a fairly limited attack and works best with close range. If alone, she can use this to get an upper hand on her opponent by coming in with a powerful kick or punch.
Vibration Chakra Theft: using the rushing energy that is chakra from a person. Tsubaki can focus her chakra to her hands and use the insanely subtle vibrations from the rushing energy to her benefit. She can leach off of her opponent’s chakra by manipulating this natural occurrence. This can also be utilized when performing her Vibration Trap No Jutsu.
Vibration Clap/Punch/Kick: as the name states, she can manipulate the vibrations in the general area from things like the wind brushing leaves against the grass or trees. Her own heartbeat or the sound of a voice reverberating inside of a larynx. She can absorb this physic energy and use it to create a powerful melee attack.
Vibration Melding: this uses just about all of her chakra but she can essentially break down her own matter by focusing her chakra to move her atom’s bonds. Thus melding into the moving atoms within the environment. Can travel great lengths but is not limitless.
Vibration Burst: this also uses all of her chakra but this grants Tsubaki the ability to focus all her atom’s energy as well as some of her opponents given she is physically touching them. Focusing this, she can cause the atoms to go into an overload with their vibration. In the ending result, the opponent explodes into a bloody, bloody mess.
Taijutsu: Tsubaki is average with taijutsu. She can keep up with most S-Rank shinobi however, she prefers to use her ninjutsu over taijutsu. Her Vibration Clap/Punch/Kick greatly aids with her taijutsu abilities.
Genjutsu: Tsubaki is able to release pulsing vibrations in the air and ground with concentration. It doesn’t take long but she is able to focus these vibrations to reverberate off of the opponent’s inner ear which can cause things like hallucinations and blinding head pain. Works best with a teammate because it requires Tsubaki’s full attention. However, works excellent in the long haul because she can break down their will to get information, etc.
Likes: foggy mornings, taking walks in the early morning and late night, spending time with those she cares most for, reading, and trying new foods/drinks
Dislikes: those who underestimate her, cooking, and most strangers
Pairing: Pain/Yahiko

Coffee Encounters Part 1
Summary: There are certain things you do to get away from the day to day stresses of being an adult. Those are running and going to a coffee shop. In these places you meet a handsome stranger who catches your eye. He’s mysterious, handsome, tall and younger than you?! What do when you find yourself drawn to someone you shouldn’t want?!
Warning: suggestive
He was always there. As you ran lap after lap you spotted him there in the mornings.
Running was the one real choice you made. Waking up early for work, going to work, spending those long grueling days at the office were decisions you made, you acknowledged that much. But how much could you say they were real choices?
They were as real as they could be in a society that socializes you at a young age that this is the only choice that makes life worth living, that makes life possible to live.
Running was the one thing of your choosing,it was the one choice you made for yourself. Running gave you an escape from the mundane. Running cleared your mind and made your body strong. Running helped you see things.
The track provided you with a distraction and escape from the mundane nature of your life. You came to the track every morning, even on the weekends such as this one. As you ran, and pushed your muscles and core to the point of soreness, you always spotted him there. For some reason he caught your eye.
Watching him made you feel like a creep.,like some kind of pervert. You’d notice whenever he got to the track. You’d glance at your side whenever he strode pat you. With his long legs, it only took him a few strides to be a long ways ahead of you. From the times that he passed by you, you could tell he would tower over your small frame.
Perhaps it wasn’t so creepy that you’d eye the boy when he wasn’t looking. As far as you knew, he wasn’t aware and you’d never let him know.
As you watched him you wondered what was his story. What made him wake up early in the mornings to come to this track? He seemed so carefree, you wondered if he really was.
He seemed young. He was probably in a different place than you. You were 24 years old and a newly working adult with grown up  responsibilities. Your work out attire was able to hide who you truly were. A person who lived by the hour. A person whose only purpose was to survive. A shell of a person who struggled to meet demands placed on her by the world.A person who was barely keeping it together.
You quicken your strides ignoring your lungs and legs begging for you to stop.
The last thing you saw before you were sucked into blackness was grass.  Was the grass really greener on the other side?
Suddenly, you're back at your college campus, back at the place where things seemed to be much easier. You were standing in the middle of the quad and you could see your friend Jungwoo standing in front of you.
How did you get here? You didn't remember getting to the campus. You didn't have a reason to be at the campus, you graduated a year ago.
“ Running is for uncreative masturbators,” Jungwoo says. He stands in front of you, with his usual posture of a slight slouch with hands in his pockets.
“What?” you furrow your brow confused. He was usually weird, always spouting off random theories and ideas of his.
“You heard me, it's probably proven”
Suddenly the scenery changes and you are both sitting at the STEM library where you both spent what felt like endless hours studying. He sits across the table  and he has his arms crossed, looking  how he usually did before involving you in his philosophical debates.
“ So you think you have no control. Well it’s true life’s a code. If you look closely you can see the numbers.”
You don’t know why,but you do as he says, curious if what he’s saying is true. As you look around you see numbers in front of you. You could hear numbers crunching.
“Oh and Y/N” he says. You look at him, dazed from what you’ve been seeing. A world filled with codes and numbers crunching. A world with a code that dictates what people should do in life, how the game is played.
“Yea? “ You ask, still dazed. What was going on?
He leans towards you and says “Wake the fuck up”
You squint your eyes, not understanding. What did he mean?
The world fills with colors as you open your eyes. You are breathing heavily and your mouth is dry. You see the boy from the track sitting in front of you looking at you with his brows scrunched.
“Oh man are you okay?” He asks
Your head is pounding and your mouth is dry. You look around trying to adjust to your surroundings. So you really were at the track and the weird trippeness that happened with Jungwoo was just a dream. His weird ramblings from Friday night were somehow seeping into your subconscious.
“What happened” you ask, you voice groggily.
“You were running and then you collapsed right in front of me” he says as he reaches over to grab a water bottle. He opens it and hands it to you.
You thank him as you take the water bottle. This was beyond embarrassing. Here you were, an adult and you couldn't even keep it together in front of strangers. You were a sorry excuse for an adult that you needed a stranger looking after you.
Not just any stranger, but a handsome familiar stranger. A stranger that caught your eye whenever you ran. He probably thought you were some kind of idiot.
“ How long was I out?” You ask after you drink large gulps of water. The water feels heavenly against your dry throat.
“A few minutes” He replies. You look at him. He was sitting closely in front of you and from this angle you could really see him closely. Before you could only take quick glances at him as he passed by you but now you could get a clearer look at him. He had full eyebrows, plump pink lips and light medium length hair. From the stolen glances at him from before you could guess he was handsome but now as he sat in front of you you know he is handsome.
As you drink more water you realize something. You were running past the limits of your body and mind without even bringing any water with you. Perhaps you had gotten yourself dehydrated which explained the fainting.
You wonder how it is you are drinking water if you didn’t bring any water with you. Then you realize that it’s his water you are drinking. That means his lips and saliva touched this water. And your lips and saliva had entered this water as well. It shouldn't fluster you because you were a grown  woman, but it did. You found yourself reacting like a flustered school girl.
You sputtered the water in your mouth.
“Are you okay? Should I call an ambulance?” he asks as he reaches over to rub your back. His hands rubbing circles gently against your back .You feel taken care of but at the same time your skin feels hot to the touch. You can’t stop yourself from choking on the water.
“No” You finally manage.
A moment of silence passes between the two of you as you try to regain your composure. The silence passes on which lets you hear the music blaring through your earbuds. You tended to listen to music at loud volumes whenever you ran,
A song called the 7th sense by a group called NCT plays. They are a niche group you had recently found out about. They stuck out to you because they were not limited by any sound or concept.. Every song they did, every lyric, every genre, even the fashion was all made out of their own choice. In this way they seemed free, A kind of free you wished you could be.
The hip hop and dreamy vibes of the song continued to blast through your earbuds.
“Is that NCT?” he asked
“Oh you know of them?” you asked. You are so intrigued that he knew of the band that you don’t feel flustered that he can hear your music through your earbuds.Did you just meet someone who you not only found yourself attracted to but who shared an interest with you?Not many knew of NCT. They were a truly underrated band with fresh talent offered. However ,that raw potential wasn't discovered by the general audience yet..
“Yea I do! I love their limitless concept” He says as he smiles. His smile is warm and inviting. It makes your heart flutter and it makes you feel light.
“Me too! They’re so underrated!” You beam. You feel as if you could talk about this for hours. You bored your best friend jungwoo with this topic. He always complained about how you talked endlessly about  the topic. Now have you found someone who wasn’t annoyed by your interests?
“Yea me too!
“I’m Sungchan by the way”  He introduces himself as he stands up. He stretches his hand out to you to help you up. Your heart throbs as you accept his hand. His hand engulfed your small one. He is able to effortlessly help you up.
“I come by this track every morning before practice,” He continues. “I just started university nearby so I might see you around” Now that both of you are standing you can clearly see the difference in your heights. He stands tall at at least 6 feet. And you… hardly make it to 5 sad feet. But for once your limitation on height doesn’t bother you, you find yourself glad that he towers over you. For some reason the way he towers over you has you wanting to throw yourself at him. You feel as if he would be able to save you, his size able to guard you and hold you safe and sound.
You usually kept to yourself for the most part, only keeping a few friends and your family close but for the most part not depending on anyone. It was done out of pride and to keep some ounce of control in your life. Usually you didn't want to appear weak or vulnerable in front of anyone so you made so your trusted few. But standing with him and talking with him made you aware of your smallness but you weren't ashamed for once, In fact, you were glad that you were this small in front of him.
You watch him as he bends down to get his stuff. He looks back at you and waves.
“Take care alight?” he smiles and you think it's the warmest smile you’ve ever seen on anyone before. For some reason it comforted you, it made you feel like the day was gonna be okay, like things were going to be okay.
“ Thank you for helping me out, I don't know what would've happened if you weren't there”   You say as you knit your hands together
“It's not a problem don't worry about it” He gives one final wave before he begins walking off. As you watch him walk away, something plucks inside of you. A feeling of longing, curiosity and desire. You wanted to know him.
It wasn’t right though. You had just found out he was not just a university student but a freshly new university student. Which made him younger than you. His position placed him at a different stage in life than you. You had no place in taking interest in what was probably  barely a legal aged boy. You’d watch him disappear. The sun would set, new days would arrive, and he’d remain  a familiar stranger.
You would act with resolve and  do what you always did: the right thing. You closed your eyes as you turned your back and walked the opposite way of the familiar stranger.

Pisces, Planets, Pluto 🥰
pisces- Describe someone you love without saying their name.
yo I’ve been staring at this question for like five minutes while I scarfed my burrito down because like there’s so many people I could describe? how serious should I get? how flowery should I be? cause my creativity is on the Fritz right now so I know I could be poetic and sappy as a motherfucker right now. okay my first idea was to describe three people I love so I’m just gonna stick with that even though that’s cheating cause it’s supposed to be someONE. i’m sorry I’m such a lovey bitch damn.
anyways first one up. our first interaction was the sort of conversations I’ve only felt with a few people in my life, one that felt like we knew and understood each other on levels that went beyond something you could explain with words. it was life experience meets life experience. they’re honestly one of the most amazingly talented people I’ve ever met, and their work inspires me, as does my conversations with them. and of course they’re beautiful, inside and out. they have eyes I once told them remind me of beautiful, colorful little rocks you find in the mountain streams, that have veins of green or blue running through them. they have a heart of gold, and give so much kindness back that it always inspires me to keep doing the exact same.
another person I love is... very cruel and hard looking. he walks with a stature that clearly says “don’t fuck with me” and has on multiple occasions scared people enough that they’ve told me I’m insane for liking him. but that’s not how he is with me. with me he blushes when I tell him he’s handsome, and he smiles big enough I can see his laugh lines. he acts goofy around me to get me to laugh. he knows how to talk to me, he knows how to be patient to get me to open up about harder things I don’t like to talk about, and just what to say to comfort me, and even how to tease me to help lift my mood up again. he has the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen, and a thick, strong body that makes me woozy every time I think about him.
the third person, I’ll pick someone I don’t personally know, but feel I understand the character he’s presenting to the world. he’s got a head filled with doubts and more talent than he may ever come to accept. he has a silly sense of humor, but often uses that as a defense mechanism and lays it on too thick, purposefully. he yearns to be loved and accepted so badly, but hasn’t learned how to love and accept himself, yet, leaving him feeling the stranger at the edge of a circle of friends, and can’t understand how they might see him as another part of that same circle. he’s handsome, with blond curls and blue eyes and a smile that makes me weak in the knees. 😉
planets; if you could go anywhere, where would you go?
do I have all the money in the world or am I limited by what I have now? if it was limitless, definitely somewhere in europe. A few months in each country and major city I’d wanted to live in, so I could experience everything I’ve wanted to see in the world. if I’m limited to what I have now, probably up to oregon to spend some time with my dad since I haven’t seen him in a year and a half now and our communication sucks online and through text... which is really fucking funny since we’re both ya know, computer nerds. for some reason we just communicate better in-person.
pluto; if you could meet anyone, alive or dead, who would you meet?
oh geez I don’t even know tbh. I mean I guess hangman? even though I’d probably not get anything across that I’d want to because I’d be so anxiety-ridden. I’d probably come across like a total lunatic LOL but I would like to meet him just to tell him I think he’s cool and see how cute that smile looks in person.
space asks!

Homecoming Part 3
Bryce x MC
Previous Part: Part 2
Next Part: Part 4
Summary: Bryce and Casey attend his sister’s bachelorette party
Word Count: ~3000
Author’s Note: As always, let me know if you’d like to be tagged for the next parts!
Tumblr media
“Ughh.” Bryce mutters as he wakes up, head pounding from his hangover.
After leaving family brunch the day before, all he could think about was how badly he needed a drink. (Not a mimosa though, that would just remind him of his alcoholic mother.) But he had promised Casey he’d teach her how to surf, so they did that first. Later in the night, they met up with the high school friends he was still in contact with for drinks at his favorite Honolulu pub. Back in the day, they didn’t used to card so he’d spent plenty of time there during his teenage years.
Casey fit in seamlessly with his friends, and he enjoyed showing her off. They’d been out very late, had drank quite a lot, to the point where he could almost forget about the brunch disaster.
Bryce is quickly sobering now though. And already dreading the joint bachelorette-bachelor party that they’ll be attending tonight. His mother is hosting at the house, which means it will be an offensive display of wealth. The dress code is black tie, which informs him that it will also be boring.
Bryce rolls over to his side, wrapping at arm around Casey. He kisses the back of her neck, squeezing her gently. “Baby, wake up. Do you still want to go hiking?”
Casey groans, speaking into the pillow. “Too hungover. I feel like I’m dying, amor.”
“Amor?” Bryce repeats, his pronunciation of ‘love’ nowhere near as good as Casey’s.
Casey rolls over to face him. “Now that we’re using the L word, you finally get a term of endearment. All the good Spanish ones are so romantic that I couldn’t use them if you just liked me.”
“All I had to do was tell you that I loved you to finally get my endearment? Well damn, I should have done that months ago.”
Casey laughs, giving him a quick peck.
He’s unsatisfied with such a chaste kiss. He cups her cheeks, pulling her to him and kissing her again. He licks at her lips until she opens her mouth, his tongue sweeping inside.
“Say it again.” He mumbles against her lips when he pulls away. “Roll the r.”
“Amor.” She pronounces, exaggerating the rolled r at the end.
“I love you baby.”
“I love you too, mi amor.”
..
.
Haku laughs as he surfaces, shaking the chlorinated pool water out of his dark hair.
“Again Uncle Bryce, again!” The boy cries out, swimming back to his uncle.
Bryce grips under Haku’s armpits, hoisting him far into the air once again.  He stretches as Haku hits the water with a large splash. His arms are starting to get tired. Haku really does have limitless energy. That’s why Abigail asked him to babysit. Their mother wanted him out of the house as she made preparations for the party, not running around under the hired help’s feet.
Haku smiles as he surfaces, swimming back once again. “Now let’s play Marco Polo!”
“I don’t know little man. The rest of the hotel guests might not like that.” The pool is fairly popular today, and Bryce narrowly dodges a small girl doggy paddling by him.
Haku pouts. “Ok, I’m taking a bathroom break and then we can have a holding our breath competition!”
Haku hurries out of the pool, tugging up his blue swim trunks. “Do you need me to go with you?” Bryce offers.
Haku looks at him incredulously. “No!” He says insistently. “I’m eight!”
Bryce smirks. “My bad, you’re right. You’re a big boy. But don’t run off! Come right back here!”
Haku rolls his eyes, but doesn’t retort.
Bryce’s gaze falls on Casey, who is watching with a smile from the in-pool bar. He swims to her, leaning against the stool next to her. “I know what you’re thinking.”
Casey sips on her non-alcoholic smoothie, returning his flirty gaze. “And what’s that?”
“Something along the lines of…” He pitches his voice up in a mocking imitation of her’s. “Wow, Bryce is so good with him. He’s going to be an amazing dad. Definitely not one of those workaholic doctors who never plays with his kids. Wow, I really want him to father my children.” He leans in closer, delighting in the blush that spreads across her olive skin.
“Even if I had been thinking something like that, the arrogance with which you just said that immediately made my ovaries shrivel up.”
Bryce puts a hand over his heart, pretending to be hurt. “Don’t say that babe.” He drops the act, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her softly. “We’d make such pretty babies. And they’d be smart too.” He breathes against her lips.
Haku returns, cannonballing into the water. Bryce kisses her one more time before pulling away. Haku swims to Casey. “Want to do the breath holding competition with us Casey?” Haku asks.
“Why don’t I be the referee? We have to make sure your uncle doesn’t cheat.” Casey whispers the last part conspiratorially.
“I never cheat. When you’re as talented as I am, you don’t have to. I’ll show you who has the better lung capacity Haku. But after that we have to head back to the room and get ready for your mom’s party.”
..
.
Bryce takes a deep breath when he stops the car outside his family’s colossal mansion, composing himself. The valet appears, opening the door for him. He nods, handing over the keys. Haku and Casey step out of the car as their doors are opened as well.
“Haku, come here.” Bryce orders.
Haku approaches and Bryce crouches, fixing Haku’s tie since he’d been playing with it during the car ride. He claps his nephew’s shoulder, and Haku grins before running into the house. Bryce turns to Casey, placing a hand on her lower back. She turns to him, gripping his black tie. “This is crooked.” She straightens it, tugging on it to bring his lips down to her’s when she’s done.
The kiss is chaste, because she’s wearing deep red lipstick and doesn’t want to get it all over him. He admires how beautiful she is for a moment. Her black dress is long with a slit running up to her thigh. The deep v neckline exposes a tasteful amount of cleavage. He smirks when he sees she’s checking him out as well. She’s never seen him in a tux before. As good as he looks in his scrubs, he knows he really shines in a tux.
He offers her his arm. “Shall we?”
She grins, gripping his strong bicep. “Let’s.”
They enter the house, and Casey is clearly awed as soon as she glances around the ballroom he leads her to. Hawaii’s richest and most powerful are all in attendance, mingling and networking in the large open space.
“You guys have a ballroom in your house?” Casey asks with disbelief.
“My parents have a ballroom in their house.” He corrects, grabbing some champagne off the tray of a passing waiter.
There is a live band playing, but it’s soft elevator music and no one is dancing. Bryce spots Haku sitting in a chair in the corner, playing a video game on a handheld console. “This is a pretty low key bachelorette party. I was hoping for debauchery. And strippers.” Casey comments.
Bryce smirks, resting his hand on her back, a little lower than is proper. “Is that what you’re into? I can strip for you.”
“Was that another one of your med school side hustles?” She jokes.
“Nah, the bartending and modeling were enough to get me through. But I think I’d be good at stripping. Probably one of my many talents. We can find out when we get back to the hotel tonight.”
Any response Casey might have had is interrupted when Mrs. Lahela spots them from across the room and approaches.
“Bryce, dearest.” She is wearing a black ballroom dress, encrusted with expensive stones. She kisses both of his cheeks in a European style greeting. “And Casey, darling, how wonderful to see you again.” She kisses Casey on both cheeks as well, grinning when she pulls away.
Casey is a little thrown off by the transformation. There is a wine glass in her hand, but Bryce’s mother is just sipping on it casually. Nothing like the lush she met at brunch. “Nice to see you again too.” Casey returns.
“You look wonderful.” Mrs. Lahela compliments.
“Thank you, so do you.” Casey replies.
Mrs. Lahela spots someone over Casey’s shoulder and turns back to her with an apologetic grin. “You must excuse me, I just saw the Governor. Hostess duties call, but do try the escargot! It was very expensive and it’s delicious.”
Bryce scoffs when his mother is out of earshot. “She never drinks heavily in front of other people. You’ll learn soon that nothing is more important to my family than appearances and reputation. She saves the alcoholic you met at brunch just for her immediate family.” He answers her silent question.
Casey squeezes his hand comfortingly. “Well, you heard your mother. Let’s find this escargot.”
They meander through the room, sampling the food the wait staff is carrying around.
“Bryce!” Abigail calls, dragging her fiancé behind her by the hand.
“Ryan.” Bryce greets shortly, nodding at the handsome blonde man.
“Hey Bryce. Good to see you again. It’s been years….I think the last time I saw you was prep school graduation.” Ryan responds.
Bryce doesn’t try to keep the conversation going.
“I’m Casey. This is quite the bachelor party.” Casey interjects to fill the awkward silence.
Ryan smiles at her, shaking her hand. “Nice to meet you Casey. I can’t take any credit. Mrs. Lahela – I mean Kate, she insists that I call her Kate now – planned everything.”
As Ryan and Kate talk, Abigail leans in to talk in Bryce’s ear. “Dad wants you to join him in the cigar room.”
Bryce grimaces. The cigar room. That’s never good. “I can’t just leave Casey.”
Abigail shoots him an annoyed look. “She’s a big girl Bryce. She can mingle. Would you just go talk to him so he doesn’t come out here and cause a scene in front of all of my guests?”
Bryce sighs, running a hand through his hair irritably. “Fine.” He turns to Casey, interrupting her conversation with Ryan somewhat rudely, but he really doesn’t like Ryan. Back in prep school, Ryan had been a womanizer, a bully, an elitist who treated the boarding school staff terribly, and just an all-around asshole.
“Baby, I’ve got to go for a few minutes. Will you be okay out here?”
“Of course Bryce. I’m a big girl.”
Abigail smiles. “That’s what I said. Come on Casey, I’m going to introduce you to a few people.”
Bryce reluctantly walks through the hall to the cigar room. He knocks, and waits for his father to say “enter” before opening the door.
Aoloa sits in his favorite red plush chair, very expensive and reminiscent of a throne. Bryce’s older brother Francis sits in a smaller chair beside their father. In addition to his family, some close male family friends are also in the room. They’re all puffing on expensive cigars.
“Bryce, take a seat. Have a cigar.” Aoloa suggests, but it comes off as a demand.
Bryce sits on a couch beside his father’s lawyer, nodding at the older man. “I’ll pass on the cigar. It’s not good for you.” Bryce replies.
Aoloa shrugs. “Suit yourself. They’re Cuba’s finest though, so you’re really missing out.”
“You won’t find a lot of physicians who smoke.” Bryce retorts.
Francis scoffs, and Bryce glares at him. “Something you want to say?”
Francis’ eyes narrow as he regards his little brother. “Yes actually. Ever since you became a doctor you think you’re so much better than us. That the family real estate business is beneath you. Frankly, I find it infuriating.”
“Francis, stop. This is between me and my son.” Aoloa insists.
Francis looks angry, but he defers to Aoloa. As always, playing the faithful little lap dog.
“Bryce, business is booming lately. With Ryan entering the fold, we’ll acquire an exclusive contract with his father, an important developer. We need all the Lahelas involved in the business.”
Bryce’s jaw clenches. They’ve had this conversation before. He’s never wanted in on the family business. He’s always been passionate about surgery. When he admitted this at his prep school graduation dinner, his father had become enraged. Ultimately, he refused to support Bryce financially through college. With his father’s income, Bryce qualified for no financial aid. He had been admitted to Stanford for undergrad, but he couldn’t afford it on his own so he’d taken a scholarship to the University of Hawaii.
He’d been looking forward to getting out of Hawaii. Looking forward to distancing himself from his toxic family. But he’d had to wait until medical school to finally go to Stanford, working his way through since his father still refused to help him.
“I’m about to be a senior resident. I’m the best surgical resident Edenbrook has. This is my dream, and I’ve worked hard for it.”
Aoloa’s eyes narrow. “Your dream? To be so poor that you have to ask your parents for money to buy a house?”
Bryce’s fist clenches. “I knew you would try to hold that over my head. I’m paying you back. I send you money every month. And let’s not forget you’re charging me interest, a much higher interest rate than any bank would charge.”
“No bank would ever give you a loan. You have no idea what it’s like to actually earn something on your own merit. To work hard. I came from nothing, and built all of this. You had every advantage, groomed for this work, and you’re throwing it all away.” Aoloa says with disappointment.
“Well so be it then. Invoice me for whatever I owe you for my upbringing. I’ll work on paying that back too.”
Francis leans back in his chair. “I told you this was a waste of time Dad.”
“Seems like raising him in the first place was a waste of my time.” Aoloa responds cruelly.
Bryce stands, heading for the door. “I’m done here.” He slams the door behind him.

Casey and Abigail have migrated from the ballroom to the patio, where heat lamps and twinkling lights have been set up for ambiance.
“You know, I’m surprised you’re out here with me. Don’t you have a lot of friends in there?” Casey asks.
“Those are my parents’ friends. You’ve probably noticed, but my mom likes to throw parties seemingly for other people, but really just to show off her expensive house. Luckily, my actual friends planned a much better bachelorette party last week. There were strippers and penis decorations.”
Casey smiles. “Good. The bachelorette party you deserve.”
Abigail smiles, sipping on a cocktail and regarding Casey. “You know, I really like you. And I like you for Bryce. And this is a huge compliment coming from me because Bryce’s ex Tia is one of my best friends, one of my bridesmaids even. I kind of ship them, but man, you’re making me waiver.” Abigail seems to be a little drunk.
“Thanks, I think.” Casey replies dubiously.
Abigail finishes her cocktail, gesturing for a passing waiter to bring her another.  “Bryce is just such a good guy, I always want the absolute best for him. Did he tell you that he let me live in his dorm room when I got pregnant?”
Casey shakes her head no, Bryce definitely didn’t tell her any of that.
“My parents were pissed. Unmarried teenage daughters don’t get pregnant very often in their circles. They said I was ruining the Lahela name. They wanted me to get an abortion.”
The waiter brings the cocktail, and Abigail downs it in one gulp before continuing. “But I loved Kahoni. And I wanted his baby. So they threw me out onto the streets. Kahoni is one of ten kids and lived in a three bedroom house with his whole family, so I couldn’t go to him. Francis had his own condo in Honolulu at the time, but he told me to get lost. He’s an asshole. But Bryce was living in a dorm at the University of Hawaii and he moved me in no questions asked. He even gave me his bed. He slept in a sleeping bag on his floor for the rest of the semester. I felt really bad about that, worried he was going to mess his grades up since he wasn’t getting a good night’s sleep.”
Abigail’s eyes well up with tears. “He’s just such a good guy Casey. He was the first one to hold Haku, you know. Kahoni had a car accident rushing to the hospital when I went into labor, so it was just me and Bryce. And he also helped me and Kahoni pay for our own place afterwards, for almost a year until Kahoni finally got a decent job.”
Casey takes Abigail’s hand, squeezing it to comfort the younger woman. “What happened with Kahoni?’ Casey asks.
“Love doesn’t pay the bills. I thought he was going to get it together eventually, be the man that I needed. But he never fully stepped up, not the way I wanted him to. Kahoni says I’m spoiled, that I expect too much. But my parents softened a little bit after Haku was born. They never liked Kahoni and told me I could come home if I left him. So two years ago I did.”
“Well, at least you’re happy now with Ryan.” Casey says.
Abigail smiles sadly. “Happy enough anyway.”
Bryce suddenly appears, making a beeline for her. “Casey, I’ve been looking everywhere for you. Let’s get out of here. I can’t be here a second longer.”
He sounds so insistent she finds herself immediately getting to her feet.
Abigail laughs humorlessly. “That bad huh?” She asks softly. She stands as well. “Thanks for coming big brother.” She hugs him tightly. “See you tomorrow bright and early for the rehearsal!” She chimes when she releases him.
“Wait, rehearsal? Why? I’m not in the wedding party.” Bryce questions.
Abigail looks surprised. “Of course you are. I made Ryan make you a groomsman.”

Undercover or under the covers? The June trope MFMM challenge
Tumblr media
Undercover, but rather uncovered.
June was the month for undercover, and this trope opens up for a broad range of possibilities – all the way from creating a whole case to sketching a teasing undercover attempt mostly to make Phryne and Jack get together in a specific way. Often, the two layers of the roles and themselves comment on each other in meaningful ways, and within this, the undercover scenarios – worlds to immerse in, roles to play – are more or less limitless, and also really tickles the imagination.
Compared to the other months, this month’s fics ran away and got rather long, and also published late in the month -- so what first looked like an ‘easy’ month for me to write an overview for instead in the end became really fic heavy. This is also a trope that has already been extensively (under)covered in earlier fics – also there not seldom long ones. To just name a few, we have lovely longfics like @wah-pah’s “Undercover at the Elvsworth Club", @phrynesboudoir/sassasam’s: “The Model Murders”; PlayfulMay/ @mollidraws’s "Undercover Escort”; @firesign23‘s "The Uses of Adversity”; @missingmissfisher‘s series “Double o Phrack”; and two lovely and rather different undercover fics with a cycling theme: Miss_Lilian’s “Death at the Warrny” and hotelf’s “Murder at the Cycling Club” -- just to name some of the longer ones. Undercover truly is a popular trope.
But this post is about the trope challenge, so we’ll concentrate on the fics from June. In most stories, it’s either Phryne, Jack, or both of them going undercover, and the focus is on their relationship and the case. A few fics are broadening that focus, which is really lovely. I will start with them, to then go on to the lighthearted fics, the smuttier fics, and finally end with the longer cases.
In @flashofthefuse, “The Red Flame”, there are two different undercover operations that unbeknownst to each other are set in the same place, a club/brothel. When Jack is in need for a woman to go undercover and pose as a criminal, the title’s red flame, he asks Mac – although it takes a little while for the reader to realise this, and it’s deliciously done. At the same time, Phryne has a case and makes her undercover work with Bert.
The repartee between Mac and Jack is glorious, like here:
“... you definitely look the part, but just looking like her won’t be enough, you know. Are you as confident in her character? I hope you took the time to read the material I sent.”
“Are you always this condescending?”
“Probably,” he admitted, earning him a small smile. “May I come in? I’d like to fill you in on what we’ve learned this afternoon.”
The story isn’t finished yet, but it’s lovely in more than one way to see the interactions both within and between these two pairings – having their own very difficult mission, but also worrying about the other’s. We often say that we want more interaction between Mac and Jack, and here that is given in a brilliant way, with sincere care and respect as well as banter – and also with a Mac that is a genius in playing a tough, nonchalant role undercover, using her experience of being a woman in a man’s world in a way that helps the case enormously.
@rubycaspar’s “And after all the obstacles” gives us a fic all from Rosie’s point-of-view. Even if it is Phryne and Jack that are undercover, the person we follow here is Rosie, being at a garden party and suddenly encountering Jack, who turns out to be undercover together with Phryne. We see all the action and scenes from her point of view, and the case part of the fic is thus brilliantly shortened. @rubycaspar gives us Rosie’s view and her observations and conclusions of what she sees – conclusions she constantly needs to revise, as more and more is revealed to her about Phryne and Jack. This also gives her the chance to work through her feelings about her ex-husband. It is set almost a year after “Unnatural habits”, and gives a strong and determined Rosie – “Rosie thought about avoiding him, but she wasn't one to back down. If he didn't want to see her, he could leave. With that in mind, she straightened her shoulders and made her way over” – and a Rosie ready to change her preconceptions. It’s a very hopeful story.
In @longlineoftvdetectives‘s “Incognito”, finally, Jack is the one going “undercover”, but his undercover interplay is with Aunt Prudence. Aunt P is ill and needs to travel to England, and it turns out that she needs Jack to accompany her, thus forcing him to pretend to be her niece’s husband. With small gestures, the fic teases out many emotions, details and characterisations, in snippets covering many issues and building up a story about Phryne and Jack, about Phryne in relation to her family in England, and also about not hiding who you are (a second take on the theme ‘undercover’). Like this discussion about Oscar Wilde:
“Dragged out of his room by the police and sentenced to hard labor.”
“For…, um…” Jack stammered, unsure what euphemism was appropriate for the dining room of the establishment in question.
“For refusing to live his entire life undercover,” Phryne responded, her voice now clear and defiant. “For loving who he wanted to love. For not hiding or apologizing for who he was.”
Jack smiled and held her gaze. He loved her like this. He would have kissed her, soundly, if they weren’t in public.
“So the Wilde play, then,” he said matter-of-factly, after a long beat.
Tumblr media
These undercover prospects are intriguing.
After these alternative perspectives, I’ll turn to the rather large section of fics that are fun and light hearted and sometimes also have a… shall we say more liberal view of what ”undercover” can mean.
The perfect transition between these two sections are of course @ollyjayonline‘s “The Inspector”, a fic that focuses on Isabella, the rather scandalous wife of Phryne’s cousin Guy, and has a delightful touch on the subject of both her and the theme of ‘undercover’. The two spouses have a conversation worthy of British toffs, discussing a news item about Phryne getting married, while simultaneously devoting themselves to both rather ‘dirty’ and casual carnal pleasures.
Isabella’s logic turns the tables on the “propriety issue” we often consider with respect to Phryne and her life style in contrast to Jack: “Really, it is quite wrong of your cousin. A divorced policeman? Why can’t she just keep sleeping with him? I mean, what will people say?"’ It’s a brilliant turnarounf. Reassured that this won’t affect her, she instead turns to daydream about the handsome and dour Inspector, something Guy doesn’t mind helping her out with through some roleplaying.
Isabella’s and Guy’s way of seeing everything as a game, of indulging in fantasies, and of having other people in bed with them – both physically and in role play – is all very in character, and an interesting contrast to Phryne.
The next lighthearted fic is @loopyhoopyfrood’s sweet modern AU “Love At First Swipe?”, where Jack Robinson is being set up for a date on an app as part of a case. He needs to find out how burglaries seem to have been conducted in relation to dates set up via this app; his only problem is that when he meets his date, it is not a suspicious stranger but a lady detective working on the same case.
Maybe it was her profile, as full as lies as every other user, but missing that hint of authenticity. Or maybe it was just Jack’s spidey senses tingling. Either way, something about Fern Roberts had him groaning in resignation and swiping right.
20 minutes later he had a date.
He tried not to think about how it was his first date since his divorce.
As a chapter 11 in her longer fic collection, “The Friday Phrack Series, @rositalg writes an intimate and atmospheric scene from Phryne and Jack in an established relationship. Phryne comes home to a Jack that sits and reads, and she simultaneously talks about her case and is seduced by him.
Her eyes closed blissfully, relishing in the attention.
“Perhaps you could help me.” She suggested, her thighs parting ever so subtly. “You’ve always been one to...dive deep into a case.”
He met her eyes, both of them knowing he was going to have her right here on this couch before the evening was done.
“Miss Fisher, are you asking me for assistance?”
In @omgimsarahtoo‘s “Under Cover of Darkness”, both the ‘undercover’ and the ‘under the cover’ theme is at play. Phryne and Jack has spent the evening undercover in a club, and the fic starts after this is over. Everything goes black, and when Phryne wakes up, he is in a strange room. After the first moments of fear, she deduces that she is not kidnapped but rather at Jack’s house, with a Detective Inspector sleeping in the chair next to her. The fic then turns to her instead indulging in pleasures under the covers with her crime solving partner, and it’s combined with really lovely banter:
“You, Jack Robinson,” she breathed, around sweeps of her tongue across his cheeks, “have a very talented mouth.”
“It’s entirely the subject, Miss Fisher,” he responded, his smile a smug tilt of the lips.
And in the end:
Catching her hand, he leaned up to kiss her, his smile tender. “You are an excellent partner, Miss Fisher. I enjoy working with you, undercover or not.”
“That’s because I’m exceptional.” Phryne grinned as she said it.
“And so modest, too!” Jack affected surprise. “A prize among women.”
Equally of the fun and teasing persuasion is @firesign23′s “Subterfuge at the Savoy” that establishes a gorgeous scene of Phryne in bed in a hotel in England – just to suddenly have her mother barge in without warning (of course Phryne Fisher’s mother is resourseful...). In the heat of the moment, Phryne decides to keep Jack hidden under the covers, but he is in a devilish mood and starts touching her and making her behave exceedingly oddly towards her mother.
“You aren’t still pouting over that policeman your father mentioned, are you? He said you told the poor man to come after you, which is utterly foolish.”
The policeman in question was drifting dangerously high up her thigh with his tongue, and Phryne really had no idea how much longer she could keep this charade up.
Among all the fun, there is also a partly serious question from Jack, after Phryne’s mother has left: ‘“Why was it, Miss Fisher, that we are two consenting, independent adults and I still found myself hiding from your mother?” he asked, eyes dancing. “You’re not ashamed of me, are you?”’
But Phryne has an answer to that question, too.
A last lighthearted undercover fic is leavephryneforme's “Undercover At The Great Australian Baking Show” – a fun romp told in small snippets about a modern Jack being undercover on a baking show. He decides to keep this a secret to Phryne, who starts wondering why he suddenly has so many cookbooks, and the fic addresses his far too alluring features – which the female judges appreciate – when baking.
Tumblr media
Preparing Jack for undercover crossdressing. Art by @kidnthehall.
From lighthearted, we’ll turn to two fics that focus on putting Jack in costume.
@whopooh's “The Importance of Being at the Wilde Cats Club”, is a case fic where the focus is not so much on the case, but more on the characters. In order to help Phryne’s old friend Eleanore, who is also a transwoman, Jack, Hugh, Bert and Cec need to go undercover at a club as men impersonating women. The fic focuses on the transformation of them – how they will need to dress, and move, and wear make-up – and also in Phryne’s complete delight in dressing up and putting make-up on Jack, and the shenanigans that follow from this, where Jack uses his newly painted lips to tease Phryne. There is both trust and teasing all through, and a slight continuation of the role reversal theme of April. It all came from two things: the comment “We need more mfmm men in lingerie”, and the desire to have a transgender person who would not need to die in order to be important in a case story. This turned into seduction via lipstick:
She pressed her lips together and motioned how he should do the same and he followed her lead, pushing his lips together. She smiled, and he followed her lead in that too.
“Oh, hang on,” she said, and procured a piece of paper. “Bite the excess colour off on this one, like this.”
But instead of doing that, Jack captures her and kisses her deeply, smudging the lipstick:
When they resurfaced, she looked at him and couldn’t stop a smile from spreading over her face. He looked ridiculous, with the lipstick smudged and forming a mad pattern around his mouth.
“Well, you should see yourself,” was all he said as he gave her a small smile.
Also in @scruggzi's “Merciful Powers”, there is a focus on Jack in costume – this time in a luscious costume for going undercover as an understudy in a Macbeth production. Phryne takes great pleasure in the fact that he is dressed in tights, and that he also can be extricated from said tights, and there is a wonderful use of Shakespeare quotes as seduction throughout the fic. As the whole undercover trope shows, it is very fulfilling to put Jack in other clothes than his normal ones, while still keeping his restrained character, and here it is combined by a delicious push-and-pull between them: ‘“Mmm,” she purred, “much as I applaud your theatrical talent, Jack, that was definitely better than Shakespeare.”/ “Sacrilege!” he protested in mock horror, eyes twinkling at her.’
And heading into smut, there is a lovely self-awareness of the literary, and the way it comments on the two of them:
“Macbeth always knew he couldn’t resist temptation forever. All he really needed was an excuse.”
Phryne was fairly sure that analysis had very little to do with Shakespeare, but Jack’s hands had moved around to palm her breasts, and his lips had found the spot just under her ear that made her knees weak. Literary criticism could definitely wait.
The undercover work, and its implications of dressing differently than normal, and of perhaps partly trying out being someone else, is driving the sensual pleasure here.
A similar thing can be said about @phrynesboudoir /Sassasam’s, “The Captain’s In”. Here Phryne and jack are both working undercover on the same case, or rather, Jack is working undercover and a stubborn Phryne stumbles into his case. As they're thrown together, Phryne having to pretend to be a prostitute, the undercover turns into rather rough sexual roleplay (‘"Get below and get naked," he ordered. / Phryne realised with a rush of aroused surprise, that he meant it and she must obey in order to maintain their cover’), and also here there is the idea of heightening an experience through unfamiliar roles and costumes – in this case more ‘dirty’, and added to it a rather sinister on-looker.
Tumblr media
Fancy meeting you in the US, Lin!
Over to the long, more elaborate case fics. First, @longlineoftvdetectives, “Welcome to San Francisco”, as the title gives away, set in the US where Phryne and Jack have taken a detour on their way home to Australia. In San Francisco they happen upon Lin Chung, who’s in need of their help. The stakes are high – Lin is threatened to his life – and it turns out that Jack will have to pretend to be Baron Fisher, while Phryne poses as Lin’s wife. In a lovely and similar way as the show, the storyline shows some of Phryne’s and Jack’s emotional journeys, but without settling anything too much, still leaving many questions unanswered. Their relation and the case is woven together, and there is a lovely relation between Jack and a young lad he takes in under his tutelage;, an interesting triangle between Phryne, Jack and Lin; an outsider view disapproving of the Chinese man that they handle brilliantly; and a very competent pair of detectives.
There are many poignant points, often made through dialogue, like here:
“Are you and Inspector Robinson in San Francisco on a case?” Lin asked.
“Not exactly,” Phryne replied. “You might say our relationship is no longer strictly business.”
“I see,” Lin answered. “Are you happy?”
“Very much so,” Phryne replied without hesitation.
“Should I still refer to you as Miss Fisher?”
“Yes.”
“Then there must be more to Inspector Robinson than I had originally perceived,” he concluded.
A fic that teases out an emotional side of Phryne and Jack’s partnership, and of Phryne’s backstory, is @omgimsarahtoo‘s ”Ungentle Reminders”. The undercover stint in this story awakens memories of René in Phryne, and it also higlights misogyny and abuse. Phryne is unsettled by the happenings, where she has to pretend to be a subdued woman among other subdued women, and after the women unexpectedly has made a bloody rebellion, she states:
“I’ll be a character witness for them,” Phryne said, her eyes on his face as he swept the cloth gently across her skin, wiping up the residue he’d left behind. His eyes flashed up to hers, surprised.
“You only knew them for a couple of days,” he said.
“Maybe,” she agreed, “but Jack, I was them, once upon a time.”
And Jack agrees about the woman who’s now going to be charged for murder: “She made her own freedom.”
In @zannadubs23 /Inzannatea’s “Things Said”  (her first mfmm fic – welcome!) the theme is also rather sinister: Jack is, on his way to London and Phryne, kidnapped in Egypt and taken by slave traders. The theme is serious and the case is given plenty of focus, building up the world where Phryne can be in place to save him – but there is also plenty of focus on more carnal pleasures, once Jack is finally released and still in her tent, as well as luscious details, like here, before Jack has realised who is his saviour: 'The room had an amber glow to it. Jack couldn’t really tell where the lights were coming from, but the room decidedly glowed. The floor was covered with stacks of ornate rugs and large pillows in shades of orange and red and purple. “She would love this,” his traitorous brain informed him instead of working on an escape plan.' The fic grew out of the line "Shave him and bring him to my tent" -- and from that start an elaborate story was built.
A casefic that has both dinosaurs, archaeological sites, a friend of Phryne with interesting parallels to her and the inspired idea to let Phryne and Jack pose undercover as siblings, is @firesign23 “Poetry of Earth”.
Phryne and Jack arrive at the scene of an archaeological dig on Isle of Wight, where a clever female archaeologist, Lucy, that is a friend of Phryne’s works. There seems to be sabotage and ill will, and Lucy is particularly putting her neck out as a female archaeologist. There is a young girl that tries to flirt with the handsome brother in the newly arrived sibling pair, and there is a lot of tension and fun scenes as Phryne and Jack must take care not to seem to close for siblings.
“Hence travelling as Frances and John Sutherland, amateur Australian archaeologists without the financial resources to make a name for themselves,” Jack concluded. “How fortunate then that I’ve decided to bone up on my childhood interests while here.”
Phryne looked at him, noting the small hints of a smug smile on his face.
“You know, Jack, one would almost think the pun was deliberate.”
“Thankfully you know my tastes are far too refined for puns,” he replied and she laughed at the glint in his eyes.
And there is a wonderful passage that comments on their earlier case at the observatorium, and that reflects on Phryne being rather alike her friend Lucy, who once almost got stuck in a flood because she was so focused on her work:
“That was careless of Lucy.”
Jack quirked a small smile. “She was distracted by a nearly complete skeleton they were uncovering. I cannot imagine what it would be like, working with someone so easily deterred by bones or luminescent objects.”
“If this is about the plutonium vial, I stand by my choices.”
He didn’t reply, merely smirked at a point well made; she glanced down the empty beach and then leant up to kiss his cheek.
At the same time as Phryne is standing by her choices, she is also all the time noticing how close she’s come to Jack, and contemplating on that sense of familiarity, all while not allowed to show any feelings for him openly.
In one last finished casefic, @ollyjayonline & @solitarycyclistadventures have ganged up on a case fic with plenty of tension between Phryne and Jack, “Death Under the Arch”.
Here, Jack is going to Sydney for an undercover stint and leaves City South to a very handsome and eligible Inspector – Phryne, however, decides to join him in Sydney. The story is set after Murder and Mozzarella, right after they have said they’ll “make do” with each other, but before they have figured out what that actually means, which opens up for insecurities and misinterpretations on both sides. The mystery is set around the bridge that is being built in Sydney, and Phryne decides to play Jack’s ex-lover as a way to be able to keep watching him:
She leaned towards him, face alight with mischief, “I was thinking it could be fun if we were old friends.”
Jack almost laughed, how typical, only he would manage to go from strictly business to old friend without any of the fun in-between.
There is also a very perceptive young woman who tries to figure the two of them out, which adds to the mix of tensions and uncertainties, and a murder mystery that turns rather sad.
Finally, the section of “To be continued”: two fics that are not finished so I’ll only write shortly about them. In @missingmissfisher’s “Hold out your hand” Jack has come after Phryne to England and meets her mother that instinctively dislikes him. It seems Margaret wants to stop her daughter from repeating her own mistakes by marrying an unsuitable man, and Margaret is something of Phryne’s kryptonite, so much annoying her that Phryne has troubles thinking straight. Added to the mix are snobbish and boring neighbours and a small mystery that turns into a much bigger and more serious one -- and how that will unfold we’ll see rather soon. @221aubrina started “The Case of the Missing Moll”, which promises to cover both the tropes undercover and bodyswap, and has just taken its beginning – so far, we only now that Jack has been drugged and taken away somewhere…
That’s all for June from me. I am very much looking forward to the July fics, on the trope “Through time and space”!

The Chaperone
Tumblr media
Among the most awe-inspiring tools in an actor’s arsenal is the ability to convey the wholeness of one’s inner life in a single glance. Both Elizabeth McGovern and Haley Lu Richardson are endowed with this gift, which makes the very notion of them teaming up for a feature instantly enticing. They each made their first big screen appearances at age 19, with McGovern achieving instant stardom as Jeannie, the girlfriend of a troubled teen, Conrad (Timothy Hutton), in Robert Redford’s 1980 masterpiece, “Ordinary People.” It’s a role I could easily envision Richardson mastering as well, considering her own indelible showcase in another sublime directorial debut, Kogonada’s 2017 triumph, “Columbus,” where she also forges a tender bond with a man harboring familial scars.
Despite McGovern’s limited screen time, she and Richardson proved equally deft at ensuring that their characters emerged as fully realized beings rather than mere sounding boards for their male co-stars. When Jeannie’s earnest heart-to-heart with Conrad is disrupted by a raucous gang of jocks, her first impulse is not to jeer at them with idealized heroism, but to laugh in embarrassment, a far more human and painfully relatable response. The lingering look she gives her visibly hurt date during their tense car ride home is a classic example of how intricately nuanced silence can speak more volumes than limitless reams of prose ever could.
With these two top-drawer talents anchoring Michael Engler’s “The Chaperone,” one expects the picture to be terrific, and for the majority its running time, it does not disappoint. Adapted by Julian Fellowes from the bestselling book by Laura Moriarty, this handsomely mounted production initially resembles the sort of sentimentalized historical fiction that would’ve likely tested the patience of its own real-life heroine, silent screen icon Louise Brooks (Richardson). During one of her earliest interactions with Norma Carlisle (McGovern), the Wichita housewife who volunteers to accompany her on a pivotal cross-country trip circa 1922, Brooks ridicules The Age of Innocence for romanticizing its protagonist’s choice to remain in quiet desperation rather than pursue his dreams. I have no doubt Brooks would’ve been equally baffled by Glenn Close’s titular heroine in Björn Runge’s “The Wife,” who chooses to live in her husband’s shadow, despite her formidable talents.
Close’s character was dissuaded from seeking stardom by none other than McGovern, playing an embittered novelist who stops the show with her one big scene, claiming that women’s voices are ignored by publishers and the public alike (“A writer’s gotta be read, honey,” she sighs). Like “The Wife,” “The Chaperone” takes its title from a reductive role women have been branded with throughout the generations, limiting the growth of their identity so that it may be defined by their caregiver status. Carlisle has resigned herself to the routines of an empty home life, yet something awakens within her as she watches 15-year-old Brooks dance with carefree exuberance for an uptight audiences of elders. When she learns that the girl plans to study with a revered dance company in New York City, Carlisle is eager to chaperone her, though for reasons that run deeper than a temporary escape from domestic entrapment.
The friendship that evolves between the mismatched pair is certainly among the film’s primary focuses, but it often plays second fiddle to Carlisle’s solo journey of self-discovery, and ultimately self-actualization. Having been abandoned by her biological mother (Blythe Danner) soon after her birth, she is desperate to track her down in the hopes that it will provide her with a sense of direction and catharsis. When she finally does meet the woman, while surrounded by the ageless statues in Central Park, Danner’s matriarch is revealed to be tragically aloof, unwilling to embrace Carlisle as her own flesh and blood, let alone introduce her daughter to the rest of her family. Her lack of knowledge regarding the functions of her body at an early age—she thought menstruation signaled impending death—deftly illustrates the pitfalls of innocence, as does Carlisle’s marriage to her much older husband (Campbell Scott) at age 16. Her terse response to his declaration of love, “That’s nice,” foreshadows a wrenching flashback where McGovern transforms her lines into a howl of pent-up fury after decades of consistently repressed needs.
It is largely to the credit of McGovern’s superb performance that Carlisle emerges as a compelling subject, since she also happens to be almost entirely fictional, contrived by Moriarty as the Julie Powell to Brooks’ Julia Child. On the cusp of her character becoming one of the most sexually liberated stars of the silent era, Richardson radiates the allure and sophistication that made Brooks such a revolutionary figure onscreen. From her trend-setting bobbed hairstyle and non-theatrical emoting to her rejection of gender norms that led her to become an outsider in Hollywood, Brooks sorely deserves to be the subject of her own film, hopefully one headlined by Richardson. Just as she overcame the melodramatic excesses of Justin Baldoni’s recent teen drama, “Five Feet Apart,” with her vibrant humanity, the assured actress makes the most of her screen time, channeling Brooks’ fearlessness for subverting notions of societal impropriety. If Richardson’s Instagram page is any indication, where she repeatedly posts amusing snapshots of her face askew—accentuating her chin flab—in order to poke fun at the app’s photogenic falseness, it seems clear that she and Brooks may indeed be kindred spirits.
Even when she’s asked to do the impossible during an epilogue that jumps ahead two decades, requiring her to portray a 35-year-old version of herself with age lines suggested solely through smudges on her face, Richardson somehow suspends our disbelief through the dramatic shift in her behavior. Devoid of the vigor that marked her adolescence, Brooks now resembles a hollow shell whose youthful fire has been stamped out, courtesy of endless battles with studio moguls and patriarchal oppression. Had she chosen not to shun Paramount for denying her a guaranteed raise, she likely wouldn’t have secured her immortality in Germany, where she pushed the boundaries for sexual frankness in 1929’s “Pandora’s Box,” a title glimpsed all-too-fleetingly in the end titles.
“The Chaperone” may be receiving a limited theatrical release, yet it is no more cinematic than any given episode of “Downton Abbey,” the series that Engler and Fellowes will be bringing to the big screen later this year. It has all the trappings of a Masterpiece Theatre production—picturesque scenery, impeccable costumes, gleaming period-accurate decor—yet there are certain areas of craftsmanship where the picture is noticeably lacking, even when viewed on a laptop. Most glaring is the poor ADR work for Hungarian actor Géza Röhrig, whose warm smile as Carlisle’s love interest is refreshing to see after his shattering debut in László Nemes’ great “Son of Saul.” Yet whenever his character speaks, the ambience suddenly cuts out, causing the dubbed words to be no less convincing than those uttered by Tommy Wiseau in “The Room.” It’s a technical misstep too distracting to overlook, especially since it clashes with the subtlety of Röhrig’s performance.
What makes Engler’s film worth a look, apart from its two leading ladies, is how it manages to make a tale set nearly a century ago feel oddly timely. Brooks was sexually abused by a neighbor when she was only a child, yet she refused to be labeled a victim. With her innocence forever robbed prior to her tenth birthday, she later reclaimed her sexuality, inspiring countless women like Carlisle to seek the sort of personal fulfillment that Close championed so eloquently in her Golden Globes speech. By the film’s finale, Carlisle has created an unconventional existence where she and her family can thrive, at least when shielded from the judgment of others. She ends up giving Brooks the exact advice that McGovern’s weary author in “The Wife” urgently needed to hear, though in a way, both films explore the benefits of living a lie. Yet rather than brood in quiet desperation, Carlisle has prioritized true happiness, however private it may be.

Robert Pattinson is a gifted actor whose talent is limitless. He says he never planned anything. He began with his love of music, that has been a part of his being since he was a child. If he happened into acting, as he seems to think he did, then the universe knew more than he did about what he should be doing, and Rob just allowed it to happen.
He saw the movie “Into the Wild”, and when he was presented with an audition for the movie Twilight, he decided to audition because he wanted to meet Kristen Stewart. What Robert doesn’t say, but others do, is that he has a thorough knowledge of cinema, and he recognized and said that “Kristen was the best actress of her generation and that’s why he wanted to do the movie”. The audition made Kristen feel that he was the only one she could do the movie Twilight with. Whatever happened in that audition, it changed both of their lives, with Rob pursuing his acting career.
He’s been flawless as the muse for Dior, another avenue he’s been allowed to explore. Now he’s had an opportunity to work once again with his music on his film Damsel. Maybe it’s all coming full circle with an opportunity to bring his music into his acting career. It would appear that the universe is not through making good use of Robert Pattinson’s talent.
He’s intelligent, has an exceptional work ethic, is nonjudgmental, generous, humble, funny, and an extremely handsome man. He’s learned to deal with, has overcome adversity the way he feels it should be handled, and he does it without intentionally trying to hurt anyone. You could say Rob is a professional human being.  He simply isn’t afraid to show who he is, and people genuinely like who he is. It comes to him so naturally, that after a decade, he still seems completely unaware of why people are interested or admire him. That in itself... makes him so darn likable.

Request: Could I request some sort of Yugyeom dance partner thing. I love hiphop and freestyle and I'm real thirsty for Yugyeom these days so I figured they would just fit. And you can do whatever you want with it. Thank you! 💕
Member: Got7′s Yugyeom x Y/N
Type: Fluff
Your palms were sweaty as you stood in the corner of the practice room. You pulled your baseball cap lower on your forehead to shield your eyes. They were busy nervously darting around the room, attempting to find a familiar face in the studio. This wasn’t your first workshop, so you were surprised that you hadn’t noticed anyone you had danced with previously. Being a dancer, you didn’t have much problem with acclimating to strangers in situations like this, but an eery feeling had laid dormant in your stomach all morning.
You weren’t sure what was making you so edgy, but you didn’t like it. You felt your back hit the cold mirrored wall behind you as you slid down, and plopped on the hardwood floor beneath you. Small groups had begun gathering together in your vicinity, everyone waiting for the mentor to arrive.
“Hey everyone!” a loud voice came booming into the room. Everyone looked up, their eyes finding the small frame of a man standing near the doorway. His smile outshone everything around him as he moved forward, taking his position in the middle of the room. “I’m Eunwoo! Nice to meet everyone!”
Everyone sounded a chorus of hello’s and welcome’s which made the instructor smile even broader.
“I know the notice for this workshop was a bit short, but I’m happy to see so many people have shown up,” he nodded, looking around at each of you. “It’s my goal to keep all of you in touch with your dance skills and constantly progress and become more hungry to become better. That’s why this week, I want to see what you all can really do!”
A chorus of hums and cheers erupted around you. You lifted your brows as you watched the scene, still uneasy for some reason. You had never felt like this in a dance class before and you felt lost with the new emotion.
“I’ve been hoping you all are interested in developing your own unique styles and I’m leaving it on you to work on your own routines. Of course, I’ll be here to guide you along that path, but ultimately it’s up to you to grasp your freestyling capabilities and come up with something amazing. The song we’re tackling today is Jay Park’s Me LIke Yuh. I want you each to break into pairs and come up with something in the next few hours to bring back to the group. Now, my sessions are meant to refresh your love of dance and improve your abilities. I have some fellow mentors who will be circulating the studio to help out and give their opinions where they can. Now find a partner and have fun!”
The group began to cheer again as everyone pulled themselves to their feet. With wide eyes you began searching the room, hoping above all hope that you would make eye contact with someone, anyone as desperate as you to find a partner. Yup, there was that eery feeling in your stomach. It became more and more prevalent as you glanced around the room, realizing pairs were accumulating quickly and you were the odd one out.
“Hm, strange,” Eunwoo hummed, shuffling over to you. “We had an even number sign up for the class.”
“Hey, hey, sorry I’m late!” a cheerful voice called, running into the studio. You and Eunwoo both looked up as a tall boy bounded in.
Your stomach dropped to your toes as you stared at him. Maybe this was what your nervous stomach had been anticipating. Kim Yugyeom.
You had attended dance classes with Yugyeom before, but you were never his partner. He was extremely intimidating. He was one of the best dancers you had ever seen, and simply watching his body work was a privilege.
“Never too late!” Eunwoo smiled, reaching out and clapping Yugyeom on his tall shoulder as if he were petting a large puppy. The boy scrubbed a hand through his jet black bangs and looked at you curiously. He was dressed in all black to match his hair, down to the sneakers on his feet. He looked breathtaking.
And you thought you were going to have an asthma attack.
And you didn’t even have asthma.
“It looks like you’ve already got a partner,” Eunwoo continued, patting you on the shoulder as well. “This is...”
“Y/N,” you whispered.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Yugyeom,” the attractive boy nodded.
“Aka Browny,” Eunwoo chuckled, clapping him on the back again. “The song is Me Like Yuh, do what you do!”
You nodded, a nervous smile on your face as you avoided any kind of eye contact with Yugyeom. He clasped his fingers behind his back and rocked back and forth on his heels. “So...uh...what did you have in mind?”
You looked up from the floor, nearly every bone in your body aching as you tried to keep up with Yugyeom’s stamina.
“One last time?” he heaved, leaning over and placing his palms on his knees. He seemed to have limitless energy and never once had the intention of taking a break or giving up. “Please?”
“I’m going to die,” you insisted, shaking your head. “We can dance once more when we showcase it.”
“There’s something missing!” Yugyeom gasped. “We have to figure it out and I just can’t-”
“It’s chemistry,” Eunwoo grinned as he walked by, barely offering a glance at either of you. “Stop being nervous children and actually dance with each other. Stop trying to choreograph so much and just let the music go through you. Let it blur your bodies into one.”
You looked at Yugyeom’s face, your jaw remaining on the floor. HIs eyebrows were raised as he stared at Eunwoo’s retreating frame. He looked back down at you, his cheeks a bright pink as he attempting to find something to say.
“One more time?” he whispered. You nodded, feeling your face grow hot from embaressment. Yugyeom offered his hand to you, gently helping you up from the floor. You readjusted your t-shirt and shook out your arms. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, taking Eunwoo’s words to heart.
Yugyeom wasn’t technically a stranger. As you had realized earlier, you had taken plenty of classes with him before, but had never partnered together. He was handsome, so much so that it was mildly distracting. You were nervous of looking like a fool in front of him, of making a bad impression on someone so talented.
“You have to let me lead,” he whispered, leaning down so his face was even with yours. “Quit being so afraid of me.”
“Says the boy with the hover hands,” you grumbled, before gasping. You were shocked at your own nerve, but couldn’t stop the word vomit from erupting from your mouth again. “You haven’t really touched me all day. I don’t have cooties.”
Yugyeom giggled, beginning the track again for the thousandth time. “You want me to touch you?”
Yugyeom took a firm grip on your waist, wrapping his arms around the back of your shoulders and placed a hand on the back of your neck. He let out a nervous giggle as the song began, the heat radiating off of his face clashing with yours.
You tried to play confident, exhaling roughly as you looked him directly in the eyes. Yugyeom was a jokester and a flirt, but you planned to make him as nervous as he was making you, whether it was subconscious or not.
As the song began, you ripped yourself away from Yugyeom’s touch, grinding your hips in the opposite direction. You looked over your shoulder, conveying the best look of longing you could manage. Yugyeom bit his lip, an animalistic expression taking over his face. The mood shift caused your breathing to stutter, nearly making you trip over your own feet as you kicked out before rocking into his direction again, allowing him to grab your waist. You ground against his crotch, causing him to hiss before you spun away again.
You giggled to yourself as you ducked into the next move, bending down and straightening again with a snap, popping your butt out for Yugyeom to notice. You glanced in your peripherals, his jaw nearly dropping at the sight of the curvature of your lower back. You continued to dance, his body mirroring your motions and eyes never leaving yours. He bit his lip in concentration, watching your movements carefully.
It was incredible what body language could do.
After a few moments, his hand found your waist again, unable to control himself any longer. Your bodies jerked against each other, following the rhythm, and each other. You became one fluid entity, sliding against each others frames with ease. He dipped you, keeping a firm grip on your body as you sprung back up. His eyes were intense as they stared into yours, seeing past your movements and digging deeper.
You ripped away from him, teasing a bit as you took a few steps in the opposite direction. He followed, quick on your trail as you swiveled your hips before him. He attempted to wrap his arm around you again, trying to regain control of the situation when you pushed him away and grinned. You wiggled your brows before drawing him forward again with a finger motion. He smiled as he all but tackled you. His fingers dug into your hips as you swayed, grinding against each other with a fervor you didn’t know you had in you. Yugyeom smiled gently, leaning down and pressing his forehead against yours. He breathed heavily, his lips only a few centimeters from impact as your rocking slowed, eventually just holding each other and trying to catch your breath.
You both jumped as the room around you erupted into applause and cheers. You immediately busted out into a fit of nervous laughter, burying your face deep into Yugyeom’s black t shirt. He wrapped his arms even tighter around you and set his chin on top of your head as he rocked you back and forth, laughing as well.
Eventually you backed up, slowly pulling yourself from Yugyeom’s arms and smiling up at him. You had found that chemistry Eunwoo had been talking about, but had never expected it to be with Yugyeom. He bit his lip as he stared at you as well, his attention being ripped away as a group of women began walking up.
“Yugyeom oppa, you have to dance with me next time!” “You two were so good! I want to dance like that with you too!” “Yugyeom oppa you’re such a good dancer!”
Yugyeom giggled, becoming more bashful with each compliment. You thought you would vomit with the amount of times they had called him “oppa.” The whole cheerleading section wreaked of desperation and you needed to evacuate immediately. Especially because Yugyeom seemed to be eating it all up. As if reading your mind, his eyes emerged from their crescent smiles, and found you again, looking over the heads of all the girls before him. You gave him a small smile, nodding briefly as you slowly attempted to fade into the background and grab your things.
“I’m only as good as my partner ladies,” Yugyeom nodded. You turned around to see him parting the crowd of women and making a b-line to you. He wrapped a sweaty arm around your shoulders and grinned. “So where do you want to get lunch?”
“I’m sorry?” you hummed, shaking your head. Certainly you had heard incorrectly.
“Thought you’d get rid of me that easily?” he said, a wide smile on his face. He was like a puppy, and you didn’t know if you had the heart to say no.
You looked over your shoulder, noting all of the dancers shooting sour expressions your way. “I didn’t have much intention of getting rid of you at all.”

Encounters Part 1
Summary: You feel you are reaching you limits with work and life. As you are reaching your limit you fall in front of a handsome stranger. What happens when two kindred spirits encounter each other? Sungchan x Reader
This chapter doesn’t have NSFW
Chapter 1
“It's not a problem don't worry about it” He gives one final wave before he begins walking off.As you watch him walk away, something plucks inside of you.

Introduction of the Members
Yuki: A page dedicated to this is still under works so for now, we’ll be introducing the members via text post.
Elo: The members are arranged from who joined MEOW first to the last.
Jordan
Nicknames: Jordy, Superman, Freaking Disgrace (FD), and Mama
Posts including Jordan will be tagged with #jordan.
He is the oldest member of the group and is considered as the Mother of Meow. Of course, being an adult means having a job is part of the package. This becomes one of the main reasons for his lengthy absences in the group. But even so, he had kept everyone in his thoughts. He even sent his friend, Edzon, to check on the members so that he’ll be able to know how they were doing while he’s at work (which was how Edzon became a member). His confidence levels are off-charts especially on the topic of his charm and looks. It is worth noting that the amount of hearts he has broken just by turning around is limitless. He also has a cool temper that will take a lot before bursting. But when it does burst, he can be terrifying. However, like Elora, he doesn’t hold grudges for too long and will apologize. That aside, he is a patient and caring friend. He’d give advice and do his best to help someone in a bind. That is why no matter how long the period between each of his rare visits, the members would always patiently wait for him filled with just as much anticipation as they had the last time.
Yuki: His confidence is so high I’d call it pride. But I’d be lying to myself if I said I wasn’t a bit envious or fond of it. He’s got moves too (also one of the things I’m jealous of). With all the wise words and guidance he’d drop on us like some sort of nuclear bomb in WWII, it’s easy to forget that he too can be fragile at times.
Sophia
Nicknames: Yukiko, Yuki, Snowie, Sunshine and Granny
Posts including Sophia will be tagged with #yuki.
She’s a religious gal with a caring heart. Do not be fooled by her seemingly aloof appearance for she is a huge, clumsy dork. Remember not to aggravate her. Her strength is a force to be reckoned with. She tries to be more fit, often sparking the fire in the rivalry between her and Derek. Even with that fact, she still eats a lot of spicy food, sometimes going out of her way to drown her ulam in chili. She is a fashionista at heart, despite what she lets on. Last to enter a fandom and the last one to leave it. She is also fond of jokes, puns being one of her favorite types. Loyal and loving, she’ll stay a friend through the toughest of times. She also enjoys minimalistic art and Pinterest.
Elo: Well that was way easier to write than I expected.
Yuki: You darn lil sweetheart, you pressured me.
Elo: Oops, sorry bby.
Elora
Nicknames: E, Elo, Eloroll, Ero-chan, Zurithia Xeliquana, Iron Board and Zuri
Posts including Elora will be tagged with #zuri.
This charming chocoholic has caught the often unwanted eyes of lots of boys (and sometimes girls) at her school. It is really no wonder why for her sweetness is as great as the chocolates she loves so dearly. It reaches to a point that most of the time, she can’t bring her heart to straight up tell someone annoyingly hitting on her when she’s a little too tired for a chat. She’s a fond of sweets but she’s even more fond of salty food. She’s very supportive of her friends and is usually lively. Her greatest weaknesses include cute things and spicy food. She can be forgetful at times and she really hates it when people say anything about her height. But it’s hard for her to stay mad at anyone for too long. It’s in her nature. She’s a very loving, thoughtful, and optimistic friend that lots of people would definitely fight for to befriend and to keep happy. One can always, always count on her to make anyone feel better even without words.
Yuki: She loves shipping countries and musicals too. Definitely an active tumblerist. Sinnamon roll. Ya think she’s just all cute? Yes, she is. An alpha sister being tough and cool. But know this, if she ever did something to you, believe me when I say it’s going to be very hard to be angry at her for more than 3 minutes and if she’s ever sad, you’d kill to turn that frown upside down. She’s that easy to love and hard to drop which is often a bother to both of us because some people who really won’t drop her end up choking her.
Elo: *SCREAMING* BBY WHY??? OMG PLS MY SINS- YOU SAY YOU GOT PRESSURED BUT YOU BUST OUT THIS FANFIC! THIS WENT TOO DEEP > /// < MAYDAY MAYDAY ELOROLL HAS LOST CONTACT
Yuki:  Love you.
Maricris
Nicknames: Mari, Chrissy, and Leonia

An intelligent and academically competitive student. But don’t you think she’s plain and dull just because of her passion for science. The dancer deep within her is anything but that. Not only is she great with keeping up with the music but she’s also a great actress and singer. Though she freezes up when it comes to singing in front of crowds, she has no problem showcasing her wonderful talent in theater and dancing. Her love for food is only bounded by chocolate and ruled by pretzels.
Yuki: Real fun and amazing person to discuss with about debatable topics—social, religious, political, scientific—anything. She’s got great facts to give away too. She becomes very enthusiastic when it comes to the people she’s got a crush on too. By the way, she’s the one who made our header.
Elo: Doesn’t she have just the most awesome editing skills??? :DDD
Hanna
Nicknames: Nee-tan, Sharina, and Flour
Posts including Hanna will be tagged with #hanna.
She’s a junior high school classmate of Elora’s. She’s fond of cute things and is very fickle. Once she likes another thing, she’ll immediately switch to that. She also likes makeup and trying out different hairstyles. She doesn’t often get to do either though due to her religion, Islam. She has a boyfriend named Paul who thinks that her small stature is adorable. Despite her height, she tries to be badass, often failing. As a way to prove that she is indeed badass, she plays League of Legends.
Elo: The friends whom she often plays with say that she is not good at the game. Whether she is good or not remains to be seen.
Yuki: She good a dancer. The variety of the hijabs she wear each day and how she copes with the heat never fails to amaze me.
Elo: Ooh! Building up on that, she rarely takes off her jacket. Like, even in scorching hot weather. She says it’s hotter with it off??? She really doesn’t like direct sunlight.
Miles
Nicknames: Derek, and Derk

An aspiring researcher with a beautiful singing voice. He’s an avid fan of Eurovision and has been trying to improve his art skills. He’s an ambitious young lad with great determination for his goals and living a healthy life is one of them (just like the competitive Sophia). He can be a bit prideful of himself sometimes but he’s just a huge loveable dork with big dreams and good amount of belief in oneself.
Yuki: Family friend since first grade, really fun guy. Quite the eccentric - one of the major requirements for the group. He’s a minecraft former SU fan kid by the way.
Edzon
Nicknames: Eddy, Alistaire, Ali, the most handsome person you will ever meet, and Alien
Posts including Edzon will be tagged as #eddy.
He’s a jokester with a habit of flirting with people he’s interested in. It seems like his style of joking consists of well-cultivated jokes that often times leave one thinking. Jordan and Edzon are known to have been classmates at one point in time. His location as of now is unknown as he often flies off to one place or another, possibly due to his job.
Elo: He’s also fond of using kaomojis with English characters such as (but not limited to): - w - , - o - , and e - e.
Yuki: His confidence is as annoying as FD’s. Pretty laidback but when it comes to people who mean a lot to him, he’s quite the opposite. He can be thoughtful at times though. He wasn’t much of an FB user but according to his friends, he’d become a little more active in it ever since he became a part of the group.
Elo: He’s also really sweet! <3
Rudy
Nicknames: Piece of Crud (PC)
Posts including Rudy will be tagged as #rudy.
He’s a Korean who is twins with Ruby. He has been known to roleplay (in fact, that’s how he and Elora met!). He often portrays himself as mean and perverted. But from the observations of the group members, he’s a sweetheart who just doesn’t want to get close to anyone in fear of being left alone.
Elo: He’s a real piece of work, he is. At his worst, he could kill a man. He has been suspended for fighting with his the principal’s son of his school. However, the said son threatened to hurt Ruby. You can imagine what happened next. At his best however, he’s the nicest, most thoughtful person ever. He even saved all the pictures that was sent in MEOW (even if he denies it.)
Yuki: Real life tsundere boi. He’s a brutal prankster too. Oh and surprising fact, he dances ballet. Actually, he dances a variety of styles but still, ballet.
Ruby
Nicknames: Gemmie
Posts including Ruby will be tagged as #ruby.
The angel of the group that rarely goes online but not as rare as the adults, Jordan and Edzon. She’s the female of the Kang twins and just like Rudy, she loves and cares about her sibling just as much as he does even though she’s the usual target of Rudy’s freaky pranks. The only difference is, she’s a lot more open and honest about that part. She doesn’t like it when her brother gets judged too quickly and she’s always the first to defend him. She rarely gets mad at anyone but when she does, it can be quite unsettling. She holds grudges but forgiveness is not something that’s hard to come by her. Nevertheless, she’s the sweetest and purest person in the group and the guilt will haunt you for the rest of your days if you’ve ever mader her upset.
Yuki:  Angel is no exaggeration cuz she literally is one. It’s really hard to make her mad, just to let you know( as long as it’s not about her brother that is) so don’t worry ‘bout her hating you. Like Rudy, she dances too and she’s got a knack at it..
Aimee
Nicknames: Aim, Shotgun, and Gun
Posts including Aimee will be tagged as #shotgun.
She’s the youngest and newest member of the group. A great artist. Much is yet to be known by her and prior to Miles's request (and interest), she was added. We've had our doubts about her but looking back, our conditions are pretty much better than the ones Rudy has put us all through. And so far, the group have had quite a grand time with the lass and are looking forward to get to know the fun little gal more.
Elo: We will link her art blog here once she makes one! (If we fail to do so, someone please remind us.)
Yuki: Very great artist. Had a DA once but she gan move here now—internet’s hell hole.

Any picture, visuals or video clip can be developed into a viral meme. Inning accordance with Merriam-Webster, a meme is: " A concept, habits, design or use that spreads from one person to another within a culture. A GIF can be a meme but a meme isn't necessarily a GIF.
8 Meme Instances and The Best Ways To Successfully Jack a Meme Along with the few instances we cooperated the intro to this blog post, have a look at some of one of the most popular memes of the previous decade to get a feeling of exactly what memes can be around. We consisted of some captions simply for marketing experts on the Vid Siphon Review listed below ... 1. Kermit: But That's None of My Business
At simply the ideal minute, Kermit the Frog ends up being an amusing design template for easy hostility. The subtitle listed below the photo of Kermit constantly remains the very same; it's the subtle gripe above Kermit that makes this meme yours. The meme could help you express your audience's normal challenges-- yet that's none of my service. 2. Futurama Fry: Unsure If
You do not have to be a follower of the TV show, Futurama, to value the appearance of uncertainty on the face of Fry, shown over. This meme is known by its opening expression, "Uncertain if ..." It permits any type of user to memejack the rest with a subtitle that explains an amusing, possibly overstated uncertainty amongst their audience. 3. Be Like Expense Simplicity is the source of the funny in this meme. Meet Costs, a lovable stick-figure design for the actions you understand your target market would endorse. All you have to do is explain him in three lines, all leading up to "Be Like Expense," the last caption on every model of this preferred meme. 4. What Individuals Believe I Do
Some memes are developed to identify with the online reputation struggles of your target market. The one over speaks for itself. When HubSpot memejacked the "What Individuals Believe I Do/What I Truly Do" meme for our Facebook web page, our sales-themed meme generated a remarkable 453 likes, 57 remarks, and 256 shares, while our marketing expert version built up a monstrous 460 sort, 53 comments, and 337 shares. 5. The characters above requirement no intro, but this meme might. For Vid Siphon Review marketing professionals, the best lead magnets could generate even more leads compared to you ever before believed possible ... Buzz's words, not mine. 7. Boromir: One Does Not Simply
You could acknowledge this handsome soldier from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. But Boromir, kid of Denethor, is much more than a warrior of Gondor. In the scene above from the Fellowship of the Ring, Boromir discusses exactly how "one does not merely" walk into Mordor, a bad region of Center Earth where couple of have actually made it through. Everybody has their own version of Boromir's grave caution. In advertising and marketing circles, Google could also be Mordor for search engine optimization (SEO) experts. 8. Puss in Boots: Old Spice Guy
While a lot of memes are very easy to pirate, some could be a little bit much more difficult if aspects like video clip are included. For instance, DreamWorks showcased its Shrek-based character, Puss in Boots playing the Old Flavor Male in the above trailer to advertise the 2011 film spinoff, Puss in Boots. However, even memes that have stemmed as videos have been successfully adjusted into photos, as obvious by the Old Seasoning Guy meme, which originated as a series of videos. However hey, if you have a talent for video clip as well as feel you could hijack that preferred new video meme, go for it!
GIF Memes A GIF meme is a GIF that has actually come to be a meme after being shared exponentially. GIF memes are quite preferred because they are so simple to share and can be fairly funny. They can be little bits of a video clip or a group of photos or development of a procedure.
Some GIF memes are created by using a cutout GIF positioned on any history, to tell whatever amusing tale the creator desires. "Overwhelmed Travolta" is a traditional instance of this fad. This is the intermediary that any person could make use of to make their very own GIF meme:
Here is an instance of exactly what could be finished with the cutout. The opportunities of ways to utilize this are limitless. Simply go into Giphy as well as search for "confused travolta" to see how many choices there are.
Social Memes Social memes are social posts that were shared on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and afterwards ingrained, screenshot and replicated by various other customers. Social memes normally begin as "viral tweets" then blow up from there. There are lots of amusing people worldwide that think of hashtag prompts that also occasionally lead to memes, such as this one for the #explainafilmplotbadly hashtag.
How You Can Make Use Of Memes for Marketing The first thing to take into account when thinking about carrying out Vid Siphon advertising and marketing for your brand is that memes are not for everybody. The very best memes are funny as well as typically have a jokingly kind of wit to them. Memes are likewise liked by more youthful target markets who invest a great deal of time online. If your brand name is light-hearted as well as deals with all ages, after that meme advertising might be a great way to go. If your brand name is extra significant, then utilizing meme marketing can polarize your audience. With that said said, allow's take a look at how memes could be made use of for advertising.
1 Memejacking The term used for taking a meme and also using it for your very own purposes is called "memejacking." Memejacking could be either when you make use of a meme that currently exists and include your own discourse in the share box, or when you develop a brand-new meme in reaction to a currently existing meme. The Nintendo video clip and memes we shared above are perfect examples of memejacking.
2 Difficulties You could also take part in an on-line video clip meme difficulty like the "Harlem Shake" or "Mannequin Obstacle." This happens when the original meme/video becomes the ideas for the challenge. When you take part of the challenge as well as create your personal video, you need to then publish it on social networks. You likewise have to see to it you use the pertinent hashtag. For example: #harlemshake or #mannequinchallenge. We do not recommend you make use of these meme obstacle instances for any future marketing projects because they have actually currently passed their minute of glory. To recognize exactly what is trending in terms of meme difficulties, you need to be energetic on social networks. This is the initial Mannequin Obstacle video that inspired many others.
The best ways to Make a Meme: Finest Practices for Memejacking Due to the fact that memes are typically really basic (like the one I produced by pirating the 'Y U NO' Person meme), they're typically straightforward productions. Some fundamental understanding of a photo editing tool like Photoshop (or hey ... even Microsoft Paint can often do the trick) could be available in convenient when hijacking brand new memes. Yet you'll find there tons of meme templates around, like Meme Generator, quickmeme, and also Make a Meme-- all of which make it very basic to pirate prominent memes. For example, to create my meme for this message, I conducted a Google look for "Y U No Individual Meme Generator," as well as stumbled upon MemeGenerator.net's tool, allowing me to produce the meme imagined at the top of this blog post. As soon as you select a device you like, you could either choose from the blank memes in the tool's gallery, or publish your own. Then, you'll have the choice to personalize the message on the top and bottom of the image you have actually chosen. Then, download your freshly Vid Siphon meme and post it on the channel of your deciding on. Just be sure to add extra context if the meme is being shared together with a larger tale or campaign. All set to do some memejacking of your very own? Here are our top memejacking pointers. Attempt to Get On it Quickly The most successful circumstances of memejacking for marketing take place when a meme goes to its tipping point-- it's started to spread hugely, yet couple of have actually pirated it. This is your memejacking sweet spot, given that memes could begin to feel old after every person and their mother has actually pirated it. To stay in advance of the contour and also remain on top of trending memes as they begin cropping up, browse social bookmarking sites like Reddit or StumbleUpon, which are known to surface up-and-coming memes before even more mainstream socials media like Twitter and facebook. Actually, just remaining well linked online as well as abreast of the current news could keep you in addition to the most up to date splitting memes. Recognize the Meme Before you memejack, ensure you're well informed regarding just what the meme means and indicates. The last thing you wish to do is offend your target market or memejack something you wouldn't have if you had totally recognized the connotations of it. The good news is, the individuals at Know Your Meme are typically on top of the prominent memes, their backgrounds, and their specialties so you could identify whether a meme is proper for your target market. Ask Yourself, "Will Our Target Market Appreciate It?" To piggyback off the last factor, understand that using memes will just succeed in your marketing if your audience values the particular meme you're hijacking. If your target market doesn't have any connection to the meme, does not understand it, or doesn't assume it's amusing, it doesn't matter if it's already been wildly preferred among a general net audience. See to it it's Relatable to Your Brand Most notably, see to it your memejacking isn't really at the expenditure of being relatable. The way you pirate your meme ought to have something to do with your brand, sector, and so on. If it's a stretch to produce a funny meme that connects to your brand name, then it's most likely not worth doing. The most effective memejacks are those that cleverly include some significance of the brand-- its industry, messaging, goal, motto, and so on . Keep in mind, uploading material regarding topics related to your brand typically produces one of the most involvement. To puts it simply, uploading material unassociated to your brand name-- like the most up to date internet meme that could in no way be aligned with your brand name-- simply isn't mosting likely to suffice.

fall trailers recap (as of 5/17)
okay, so, i didn’t watch all of the trailers that came out for new fall tv series (some just do not interest me). nonetheless, here are my thoughts on the ones i did watch:
the gifted - i am not much of an x-men person. do i have interest in the films? a little, but at this point it seems like too much to take on. however, this series does look interesting, especially considering that the two mutant teens have a father who literally locks up mutants for a living. will make for an interesting show, and like legion, i can see this being pretty popular on social media. also, hello, little lev tashi’ne! wonder how the unwind production will continue now that one of their stars has a leading tv role... hmm...
the orville - one of several trailers on this list that surprised me. anyone that follows me on my other blog knows i have become a star trek fan in the past year (blame chris pine and his stupidly handsome face - and karl urban too), so it was inevitable for me to have some interest in what is essentially a parody series. and honestly? it looks great. the set feels reminiscent of the original enterprise set from the 1960s series (in that it’s quite basic and perfect for tv), and it’s good to see seth macfarlane in something that isn’t animated for once. (he was surprisingly lovable in sing, though, if i’m being honest.) i laughed quite a few times during this trailer, and i can definitely see myself giving this series a try. (i’ll have to play catch-up the following day, though, since its broadcast conflicts with this is us!)
ghosted - more parody series! this time more along the lines of x-files, a show i never watched. this gave me a feel of that with a dash of ghostbusters, and it feels a little... i don’t know, cheesy? the two leads seem okay and the trailer had its moments, but i’ll pass on this one. (fox comedies do tend to fall flat for me...)
will & grace - not exactly a new series, but still a series i wanted to comment on. the trailer was amusing (hello singing agent maclaren, lol), but did make me wonder if this reboot could work. while i love the original series, times have changed since it first aired. gay is a bit more normal, especially on tv. most shows will feature at least one lgbtq+ character nowadays, so the uniqueness of will & grace isn’t there anymore. it just feels like any other show on tv. will original viewers of the series still tune in? probably. but don’t expect it to be as buzzed about as reboots like x-files or gilmore girls. will & grace is a great sitcom that probably should have been left alone as is.
deception - i was interest in this series just when i read about it getting a series order, so i was highly anticipating the trailer. it’s tv’s now you see me, basically, except the magician works for the law. (considering the fact that a producer on the series is in fact associated with the nysm franchise, i would love for there to be implications of a shared universe.) otherwise, it feels like any other procedural out there now, with the man having some ability that makes him more capable of solving crimes. this may be bc the partner is a woc, but it vaguely reminds me of minority report... i do mean vaguely. it just follows the same formula.
the good doctor - another trailer that surprised me. in my eyes, it feels like limitless (hello boyle!) meets house. it looks really good. something i can 100% see myself trying come fall. it does help that the lead actor, freddie highmore, is someone i’ve seen in films since even he was a child. (charlie and the chocolate factory ring a bell? that movie was terrible, but he was a cute kid actor.) i have seen some people complain a little that he’s playing an autistic doctor but doesn’t have autism himself in real life, and i do see why that would be a problem. still, i think that makes it even more of a challenge for him to get that part of the character right, and therefore show off more of his talent. if they make mistakes along the way with how they portray autism, then we really have a problem.
the alienist - you all know why i watched this trailer. luke evans, the current love of my life (he’s gorgeous and ridiculously talented and oh so sweet, okay?), is a lead on this series. (it’s surprising to see him go to tv considering that his film career is just continuing to blossom, but tv has adopted a lot of film stars lately - hbo’s big little lies has a bunch of them - so maybe i shouldn’t be so surprised.) that probably has a lot to do with why i liked the trailer, bc it’s normally not my kind of show. but the period drama aspect gives me flashbacks to the past (not present day) scenes of forever and time after time, so i can potentially give this show a try. it is an event series, so it can’t hurt too much to get into considering it won’t last long, meaning not a lot to dedicate myself to. heck, i could probably wait to binge the season over two days. but we’ll see, bc dan stevens’ tv run creeped me out, so this could do the same.
star trek: discovery - again, i like star trek. a lot. so this series does interest me a little. can’t say i will watch it, though, bc the prequel aspect just loses me. i’d probably be more interested if it were just like the original series and featured kirk or spock - even in quick cameo roles. but ten years before the events of the original series? yeah, count me out. i do support its diverse cast, and for a tv series, the effects are, no pun intended, out of this world. i cannot believe the budget they must have had for this show.
9jkl - i’m pretty sure i clicked play on this trailer by accident. but holy crap, i’m so glad i watched it. it looks like a hilarious sitcom, which is surprising considering how campy other cbs sitcoms tend to feel. a comment-er on the trailer says this feels campy too, but i don’t think so. the basic plot, with an actor living back home with his parents - though said home is actually an apartment next door - does sound a little cheesy, but the humor is good. a bit risque considering all the sex references, but surprisingly funny. i do recognize two actors on the show (i don’t know names, sorry!) - one is ross and monica’s father from friends, and i believe the other was the lead on about a boy? anyway, i don’t watch a lot of sitcoms, but i’ll definitely try this one - i didn’t give the cbs schedule much of a look, so i’ll have to make sure this is on at a time that works for me!
me, myself, and i - one youtube comment-er described this show perfectly: “it’s like the wonder years meets this is us”. i definitely get that sort of feel from this show. it’ll be interesting to watch these three different timelines all move at once, considering that there are characters besides the lead who we’ll see in the future while we simultaneously watch their past unfold. (like the lead’s daughter - there’ll probably be a lot of foreshadowing regarding her future career that we’ll already see turning out in the future portions of the show.) but i do like that connection between past and future with the crush. i wonder if that girl will pop up at all in the present day timeline. i’m a fan of bobby moynihan’s from snl, so i’m happy to see him branching out. and i’m also so ready to root for that child actor from the past portion of the show. he seems quite charming, adorable, and talented.
young sheldon - never saw an episode of big bang theory. however, this was trending on twitter for a while today, so i got curious. it started off feeling a bit cheesy and like a hallmark film, but the more i watched, the more heart it had. it wasn’t overly funny, but it was cute. and this must be the year of the child actor, bc man, a star is being born here. this does give me a little bit of forest gump vibes, except sheldon is actually a genius. maybe it’s more his behavior, which i’m assuming is Asperger or something, that has me giving that comparison. i probably won’t watch this one, but i’ll root for it to succeed.
