Been chewing on Killers of the Flower Moon since I saw it. I think there wasn’t enough of Lily Gladstone, but I saw a review on letterboxd saying this is Scorsese’s angriest film yet, and I think that’s really true. I think he wants the audience to, if not hate these white men, then at least to be seething with rage at the injustices they inflicted on the Osage people. It was wrong and cruel and every second of the film is there to drive that point home, even parts of Lily Gladstone’s absence. I think it really comes together at the very end with the “what happened next” sequence (which I won’t spoil), but made me weep, it was so affecting. That sequence, after everything you saw, really elevates the film beyond its minor flaws.

hiiii haha. hello. exceptionally awkward introduction bc idrk how to start something like this so let's just jump right in. im taking a break from this account for a bit. i know i said i wanted taob out before halloween and currently im fine sticking with that deadline, but if i decide i need longer away then i will take longer away. every time ive reassured people that id never abandon a fic and updates will always come eventually i never once considered that my writing and ability to feel safe and comfortable on this site would be actively taken from me, so im not even going to apologise. i dont want this either and more importantly i dont fucking deserve it. i dont know what it is in the past year, if ive hit a certain amount of followers or 'popularity' that's made it so the natural ratio of positive to negative interactions must in turn go up, but there's been a serious uptick in weird asks for me. the annoying part is that a very small amount of them are actually objectively mean and hateful, the rest are just weird and invasive from people who seemingly dont realise that's what they're being. ive reached a point where i dont care if the intentions are good. it's not my job as a 20 year old tumblr user of all things to defend the morality of someone who couldnt even bother to come off anon. unfortunately, after blocking only one or two anons, the weird asks have decreased substantially, which says all you need to know about the fascinating and exhilarating lives led by these people, but ive also gone on to turn anon asks off entirely. this is something i actively fought against doing and had to be pushed into by my mutuals (who have been the coolest people on planet earth during this entire thing). turning off anon was a big deal to me even if it sounds silly. i felt betrayed and like id been backed into a corner because it was so vehmently something i DIDNT WANT that to feel like i had to do it anyway for my own mental health??? that sucks. so even though ive 'fixed' the problem, im still kind of reeling and uncomfortable every time i come on tumblr. i hope it's just something i need time to ease because i'll truly be devastated if this becomes 'ruined' for me. tumblr exists as the only place in the world where i am honestly every facet of myself without shame or hesitation; losing that would be insanely harmful to me. and to the people who cant appeal to the actual human behind the post, let me put that in words you can understand: we wouldn't get any more writing 😦😦😦 riots and fires and sirens, i know. so yeah. to anyone who has sent me an anon ask and you're now wondering if you were part of the problem, im firmly of the belief that you'll know if you are. when i say 'weird asks' i dont mean 'you sent me a para about your personal life just to vent or ask for advice' or 'you sent me a really deep emotional compliment about the impact me and/or my writing has had on you' - i love asks like that, so much that i put off taking a break and turning off anon solely for the joy they bring me. im sorry that it might feel like you're being punished too bc of the actions of what in reality is a HANDFUL of weird people, but this is what i feel like i have to do to feel safe and not go insane every time i log in. love you guys, hopefully ill see you soon x

okay... idk at all if this has been discussed or that I'm just stating the obvious. I'm posting any way to get more feedback.

so. can we be sure that the last boat scene even happened (in the way we saw it at least)

yeah the letter was delivered to the intended recipients. the letter also did say 李相夷绝笔 lit. the final writing by li xiangyi. there's a brief exchange between him and the assumed "boatman" asking him where he was going. and we see he spat blood while writing yeah but:

llh/lxy's eyesight had been failing for some time.

Professional Letter Writers are a thing in the past in service to people who can't write their own letters (idk enough to verify the historical accuracy in this specific context though)

what has been bugging me since forever is the manner of speech of the letter. yeah it's different from their everyday speech, but that's actually perfectly fine since this is A Letter so I'm good with it being more formal. but... there's something I just can't quite pinpoint. especially with the use of the 君 jun pronoun by llh/lxy to refer to dfs when there could be other pronouns with less connotations of intimacy (and scholarly/imperial court system) implied and still conveyed cordiality, marking a shift in their relationship. (I'm not well versed with wuxia as a genre enough to know what are the conventions. someone else who does can say something though.)

whatever these put together means (eg. he may not have written the letter personally, or he wrote it in a different situation from what we saw, etc etc.) alongside:

this scene existed only as part of a visualisation as the letter content is revealed to the audience (or assumed to be fdb reading the letter to dfs & guests of the wedding spectators of the duel)

the boat lxy/llh jumped on is not the same as the one he was writing the letter on - the boatman is also not on it despite the conversation at the beginning, but lxy/llh's dressing and hairpin are the same as the ones before he jumped. (the boatman delivered the letter so he's real though.)

also as @wonderfulnonsense happened to have just pointed out in the tags left in my other post: it's in fact the same boat he took to go fight dfs at donghai 10 years ago. (edit: or maybe it isn't? as pointed out by anon.)

if we viewed whatever we perceived in this scene as imaginary (not what actually happened), then the reading of it being a metaphor for lxy/llh being on his way to enlightenment just makes sense. (the boat being a carrier on his spiritual transformations.) especially when you consider that 彼岸 the other shore is another concept in buddhism to represent enlightenment, alongside the motif of lotuses. (credits to @markiafc for the buddhism reading - edit: mark's meta here) and then, consider the beach ending... yeah.

OH THATS SO SWEET I DIDNT EVEN THINK ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!! hes so cute..... on one of his m-34th missions he helps an old guy who happens to be selling his run down old building in the outskirts of the downtown area, and lime just staring at it thinking about how mochi wouldve loved this place... nice location and everything. how cool would it be if i had a place for her to open a shop in, he thinks. and it makes him a sad thinking about it because hes standing there listening to an old guy talk about this house, daydreaming of a life he could build with the girl he loves meanwhile he has no idea where she even is.

(and buys it anyway cuz with his salary, if anything he could fix it up and resell it or use it to finally move out of the stupid m-34th barracks. totally not because hes thinking of living there with mochi and building a life with her together one day. yeah definitely not that)

I am sad that Back to the Rock decided to just give Mokey rod-hands full time

In the original puppet show, Mokey had two sets of hand that would be used depending on what was needed for a scene.

A set of rod-hands like the rest of the main Fraggle characters, and a set of live-hands (which are like a pair of gloves that a puppeteer wears to act as the character's hands).

Something easily facilitated by her large billowing robe. Though there's various Muppets who do a similar thing even with tight clothing such as Ernie.

Anyways the live-hands is how it was so easy to do scenes of Mokey doing stuff like painting, writing, throwing things, and other stuff in the original series.

If there's an object that either can't be easily attached to a rod-hand, or that needs to be immediately thrown, there's a pretty good chance Mokey is going to be the one to pick it up.

Such as the "hideous round thing" that she picks up and throws to distract Sprocket in episode 1 of the original series. It's too large and smooth to easily (and realistically) have a rod-handed puppet hold, but a live-handed puppet could pick it up and throw it quiet easily.

It could just be because rod-hands have advanced since the original series, and the hands now have greater pose ability than the kind in the 80s, so live-handed puppets have become redundant when not necessary.

Like Mokey doesn't play the piano or anything super intricate that requires extreme finger dexterity that couldn't just be added in post or something.

Though I do think Mokey's live-hands gave her an expressiveness and groundedness in her movements that the rod-handed puppets didn't have in the original series.

Live-hands are more fluid, dynamic and nimble compared to rod-hands just by default.

When she did something, like paint, or touch something, or even touch her friends, with her live-hands it was always more grounded and believable than when any of the characters with rod-hands did something similar.

Like when Mokey pulls out a poem and is holding it, she's literally holding it with real hands, but if Gobo pulls out a postcard from Uncle Matt that same episode it can look kind of funny, because it just doesn't look as realistic. Sometimes they didn't manage to get the fingers on his rod-hand to close all the way, so the letter is just awkwardly stuck to his hand.

Same with the other rod-hand Fraggles whenever they hold a piece of paper.

Human hand in a glove will always be more 'realistic' (believable) feeling in movement and action compared to a fake hand being controlled by a stick.

And I think that is something missing from the new version of Mokey.

Original Mokey was always an artistic dreamer who could sometimes feel like she had her head in the clouds, but also had these moments of being very grounded and insightful, and was very down to earth in general.

Mokey was the most physically affectionate of her friends in the original, and I feel like that was due to, at least in part, her being a live-hand puppet a lot of the time.

Like there are just scenes where she'll just be holding one of her friends hands while she guides them along, or she'll cradle their heads when she hugs them, and there's just an extra layer of depth that comes with it being done by live-hand puppetry.

There were actions that Mokey as a live-handed puppet could do that the rest of the main cast couldn't do due to her status as a live-handed puppet, and the old show took advantage of that, and I feel like that's where at least a bit of her characterization came from.

Because for a lot of those scenes weren't of Mokey doing something complicated that made live-hands neccessary, no, in a lot of them she's just talking with her friends and gesturing with her hands, or being physically affectionate, and what she's doing with her hands aren't even the focus of what's going on in the scene.

In the episode where Wembley is looking for his job, when Mokey is walking him up to the Gorg's garden to get radishes. She's holding hands with him as she leads him up there, but that's barely in frame at all.

To the point that their hands are bobbing in and out of frame as they walk, and it only lasts a few seconds.

The hand holding was completely unnecessary, it barely makes it into the scene at all, but it was still something the puppeteers decided to do, because Mokey holding her friends hand while leading them somewhere was a Mokey kind of thing to do.

And it's the tiny moments like that, that I think is missing from Mokey in Back to the Rock.

#I was talking to some buddies about lies of p and sekiro and how LoP’s defense as offense mentality helped get into sekiro #but then how sekiro overwrote that mentality with its own “offense is the best defense” mentality #or “hesitate and you lose” as Grandpappy isshin would say #and how the switch for the change for me was genichiro who I think is one of the best designed bosses in gaming #you CAN’T play too defensively with him because he’s happy to pepper you with arrows from a distance #and then the moment comes when you realize your sword interrupts his bow attacks sekiro truly begins as a game #lady butterfly is also a good fight but all her moves bring her to you so there’s less incentive to be as aggressive #vs genny baby who will back off and fire off his bow if you let him #this isn’t even like a video of me playing perfectly but I LOVE getting my feudal edgelord corner stunned and just bursting him down #I kinda hate the owl shinobi fight bc he hits too hard and his attacks just aren’t interesting to react to #but it’s also possible to corner stun him and just go to town on his health bar #owl father and inner father are much better fights and I actually really enjoyed inner father a lot #but the Ashina family fights are absolutely stunning achievements in game design imo #perfectly balanced to be difficult but fair and visually stunning to boot #even if there is a layer of artificial difficulty in the final battle with the flowers obscuring their swords when they’re crouched #but the animations are solid enough that there are enough other more subtle differences like how hes shifting his weight #if he’s centered he’s going to lunge but if he’s angled he’s gonna sweep #I had so much fun with LoP and sekiro 🥰🥰🥰 I crave more… #I can’t say the combat in Elden ring gorilla gripped me like these two games have but I like HAVE to play dark souls I know this #sekiro #tsuchi plays games

The very first proper digital drawings of all of them. Airi is the oldest, with hers being from the may of 2016, with Sharon lagging behind at the march of 2017. Aalis is the "youngest" at the june of 2017.

Airi used to have her totally own thing, but I merged her into Sharon's project later on. Airi's gone through the hardest design revisions, while Aalis is like 99% the exact same as when i first doodled her sometime before that drawing.

Hey fellow milkweed nerds of Tumblr I have a question.

So. Swamp milkweed. It's pink! That's pretty cool. I wanna know how pink.

Because whenever I google Swamp Milkweed, whether its to look for seeds or plants for sale or just to show other people, the flowers look like this.

Thats Fucking Hot Pink. This bright ass pink is what drew me to the plant in the first place. If I were to find my Dream Swamp Milkweed, it would be this pink.

However, a lot of the times, I end up finding swamp milkweed that looks more like this.

Its a much lighter, more of a strawberry-milk pink. These are pictures I took from my own swamp milkweed plant, but from the pictures I've seen in my gardening server, a lot of them have plants in a color similar to this.

So what I'm curious about is. If you grow swamp milkweed, or have seen it growing in the wild, have you ever seen it as pink in the first example? Or is it just Photoshop magic? And if you do have it that pink... do you have any seeds you'd be willing to share?

After MK saw the shadowpeach fight in 4x11, I imagine he see's himself in Macaque just like he saw himself in the warrior (finally understanding what Macaque meant in 2x07 lol)
