Had a wonderful time sketching seals at the ravenscar seal colony! It was a challenge capturing the majesty of these awe inspiring creatures, particularly whilst also trying to race against the tide, but it feels so wonderful to sketch such magnificent beings up close!

Still on our Isle of Skye theme, I took this photo a few years back. Eilean Donan Castle is probably, after Edinburgh, the most famous castle north of the border. Built in 1220, and home to the clans MacKenzie and MacRae, it sits at the meeting of three lochs, Loch Alsh which you cross to get to Skye, Loch Duich which runs south and Loch Long. If previous planks from the same log are anything to go by, then this book-matched pair of rippled sycamore boards are going to look absolutely stunning when they've been smoothed off and oiled! Just as impressive was the display of pyramidal orchids, knapweed broomrape, twayblade orchids and marbled whites that I saw on a lovely Nature Reserve in Wiltshire which I visited on my way home from wood shopping.
