Inventors’ Unfair Winners!!!
Congrats to this year’s winners!!! (Yes, this year, not this week. As the one running the UberContest, I can officially say that all the previous contests of the year don’t count. They were just practice rounds for this week.)
From the Vault by @horsecrash for Name, Set, Match
Oh this is sweeeeet. Booster pile was a mechanic used on one of the heroes of the realms cards and I’m happy to see it used here cause I think it has a lot of potential. I’m questioning a little if this is red, but the randomness of the booster makes me think that drawing cards from it is reasonable for red. I like the use of Treasure tokens to make sure you have the ability to cast the cards you open. This is really cool stuff.
Ferocious Counter by @real-aspen-hours for Tasting the Test of Time
Since you submitted this for a flavor text contest, I want to draw special attention to that flavor text cause that’s really fun, especially when combined with the art and effect. I feel like it tells me a lot about this character, and I don’t even know their name! It’s good stuff. I also quite like this card’s effect (though you forgot the rarity- uncommon?) It’s potentially rather efficient both as removal and a counterspell, but it seems about comparable to that UB card from eldraine that can be either. I don’t think it’s strong enough to be problematic. Good work.
Hand Former by @bergdg for To Arms!
This made me laugh out loud when I first read it, which is a very good sign. It basically just makes a dino token on ETB, but it does it in a really funny way that seems like it’s gonna be a good time in the game. I’m a big fan of this. It’s simple, but fun which is a good place to be as an undesign. (Also, fun synergy with Handy Dandy Clone machine).

Winner Circle Babyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!
Just finished NaNoWriMo!!!!!!!!!!! Finished much earlier than I did last year. Last year I finished at 3AM and this year I finished around 10:30PM so I finished a full 4.5 hours before last year. The fic's not done but I'm not touching it for a good minute. I have other things to write, other hobbies to pursue, I can play solitaire again!! I am coming back from the dead and I am now available again.
To everyone else who participated in NaNoWriMo, whether you already won, are going to win tomorrow, or didn't finish, I hope you had fun.
And I'm totally buying Scrivener at some point.

Mew lit the match to start this dumpster fire...
After multiple dates of watching Top being approached again and again...
Mew is feeling insecure and powerless.
So he does the one thing he can to act on that frustration... he calls Boston to rub it in his face.
Which prompts Boston to retaliate through Ray.
And that's going to lead to Ray finding out about Top and Boston.
Which will in turn cause Ray to tell Mew...and although he may not believe it at first, he will eventually.
So in the end, Mew will have started the fire that comes around, Full Circle.

X Marks the Spot Winners!!!
Thank you all for your x-cellent submissions! And congrats to our winners! These are all great cards that I’d love to x-ist.
Rite of Calling by @asexualbard-blog
I think this would have to be a modern horizons card, I struggle to see it fitting in anywhere else, but DAMN would I love to see it in wherever it does fit. Affinity is always a dangerous mechanic of course, but I think this is costed in a good way. The double X is definitely a good choice here. Affinity for Elves is specific enough that this is unlikely to be *too* problematic like affinity for artifacts is, it’s for a very specific deck. I love the way this plays into that deck’s strategy. It tells you to go wide with a whole bunch of elves so you can cheat out some big beatstick. I can’t say with certainty this is costed correctly, it would probably require some playtesting to get a handle on, but it seems correct at a glance. And this is a very fun design that I absolutely think is worth doing that testing for.
Bloodhammer Battleskald by @reaperfromtheabyss
Oh this is neat! I think this is a really good use of boast. I think the once-per-turn restriction of boast is helpful here, and I like how boast allows it to do that while still allowing (and encouraging) being aggressive. And I like how the first ability encourages combat tricks, that seems like a good direction to push this card since it’s a card that want to attack and wants to cast (probably cheap) spells, which already points toward combat tricks. So I like the extra reward for them. I think this maybe wants to be on a cheaper, more aggressive body, but also it may be best where it is.
Calix’s Resolve by @curiooftheheart
Oh this card… this is cool. This is very cool. The effect is exciting. Reanimating an enchantment is a neat effect, but sometimes needs a bit more oomph, and I think the oblivion ring effect is the perfect addition. And I think the mana reduction is really good on this card, cause once again, the mana cost is probably roughly at the spot where it needs to be, but it’s a bit conservative so the cost reduction makes things much spicier. All in all, I love it. There is one minor but important tweak I’d add to this though. In the O-ring effect, it should be *up to one* target creature, so that you don’t have to target something on your board if you have no good targets.
Thank you all for your submissions! Runners will be up shortly
