Sometimes I rewatch the Tuck Everlasting musical just to feel something. Everyone who enjoys musical theatre should be required to watch it at least once

I’ve seen hc that say Winnie named her son Jesse but I just had the thought that that she named him Thomas after Miles son. I just feel like that’s what she did. She wanted to name him after someone she knew was loved so strongly but miles lost too early as maybe in a way that would help heal Miles pain. Even if Miles never knew.

Oh, what I would give to be a toad.
Specifically a toad in 1893, where a little girl pours some water on me and makes me immortal, and then I get adopted by this weird chaotic man-child who makes me his adventure buddy and takes me around the world.
What a life.

Winnie: but I still don’t understand!
Miles: *violently turns head to the right* ENOUGH! *violently turns head to the left* Alright. *calmly sits down next to Winnie*
Miles: Were not aging. We’re not growing. And none of us know why. *glares at Jesse*
Jesse: *mouths* the hell did I do?
Miles: once upon a time, we drank from your spring. And now we’ll never die
Jessie: *rolls eyes*

jesse & winnie - age gap opinion
I'm known for having obsessive and extremely strict opinions about age gaps between partners in a romantic relationship, and as someone who is currently in a brainrot about Tuck Everlasting I need to share my thoughts on this topic <3
point 1: the romance is not as big as people say it is. At first listen to the soundtrack, it sounds like Jesse and Winnie both have equal feelings towards each other. It is clear they are best friends, but also like each other. The song Seventeen is the biggest example of this - it basically sounds like a proposal from Jesse. However, after seeing the stage version twice and reading the book, it's my opinion that the "romance" between them is nothing more than a adolescent crush on Winnie's part, and a desperate interest in anyone for Jesse. For Winnie (and this is proven in the book), she basically has a puppy crush on a funny, cute, older boy. This is not unusual. However, I don't believe Jesse has any romantic feelings for Winnie at all. Jesse has spent a hundred years with his parents and older brother. He is desperate for someone "closer" to his age (or maturity) to talk to. He finds Winnie, someone with a similar sense of adventure and humor, and latches on to her, especially because she likes him so much. In his mind, he has found the perfect friend. But he is fully aware of how young she is. There is a line during the song Seventeen that is not in the album recording - Winnie asks why she can't just drink the water right now, and Jesse says, clearly uncomfortable, something along the lines of "Oh no, you have to wait. You'll see, there's a difference." The line about them getting married is very throwaway. Jesse is imagining having his best friend by his side for forever; marriage is an obvious possibility, if he's going to be spending his life with a girl his age. He's not seriously considering marrying her at this point.
point 2: the age gap is not really as huge as you might think. People sometimes try to portray Jesse as someone older than 17. Obviously, he is, but maturity-wise, he is not. People seem to think that he's basically a full grown adult in a kid's body, but what they seem to miss is that his brain is frozen too. His brain has stopped developing at 17 years old. Sure, he has a hundred years of memories, but he does not have the mental maturity that an adult would have. This is not a super strong point, because he is still mentally 17 which is still way too old for Winnie, but it does eliminate the common argument that Jesse is basically an adult.
TLDR, Jesse isn't really in love with Winnie yet and just wants a lifelong partner because he's lonely. Winnie has a juvenile crush on Jesse. It's not creepy, it's very sweet.

Guys Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Sarah Charles-Lewis’s acting during seventeen is so good. They both look and sound so lonely and it breaks my heart they just want a friend😭
