Masterlist
Princess Amentia of Downland (Queen in 4Kids dub), first appearing S2E4, is the ruler of a small kingdom of people called Trog (which I have a few problems about that we’ll talk on later). She is a dominant, perfectionist that falls madly in love with Brandon, Stella’s boyfriend. She serves as a minor conflict and minor ally to the Winx against Darkar. And while I think Amentia is a unique character that should’ve been explored more, she is also written off as a pitch poor portrayal of women in positions of power and borders on racist stereotypes. It’s unfortunate that I’ve yet to see any posts or articles talking about the inappropriate portrayal of her character and her people.
Not only is she a powerful ruler, she is also an impressive warrior, and so are many of her people. Despite their impressive nature, she and her soldiers are written as brainless brutes. Especially the soldiers. This is a common portrayal of unfortunately several brown people, but especially Indians & Arabians (also Natives, with how they’re written as savage and uncivilized) All of these cultures are stereotyped as being controlling, the same way Princess Amentia is. But I specifically want to talk about her being a woman in a position of power first.
In the world of Winx we don’t often get female rulers, which is strange as the Magic Realm has various societies and cultures but for some reason they’re all Kingdoms? Another rant for another day. But my point still stands, she is, other than the Queen of the Earth fairies, the only female ruler and indisputably the only female warrior. Yet, she’s controlling and doesn’t understand the idea of consent. She’s selfish, self-centered, and uses her position as a way to, frankly, just be a bitch to everyone. While she has good qualities, like being a strong strategist and, of course, fighter. She’s written so shallowly for the sake of being a low-stake conflict instead of a fully-rounded character. It’s sad to see the only woman in power to be written in such a bitchy way as many women with positional power are viewed.
It’s also gross with the way they solved this conflict by forcing her to fall in love with someone else without her consent nor the work necessary to make a happy couple. I know one of the dubs made it where she realized Sponsus is her soulmate instead of falling in love with him on the spot, but I’ve always hated the soulmate trope because, in this case, it just feels like an easy fix.
Tumblr media
Now onto the stereotypes, it was always something I noticed even as a child. It’s clear the Trog is a weird mix of Aztec & Orientalist aesthetics. Amentia wears what looks like a dupatta in her military outfit (a strange contrast to her immodest outfit which goes against the usage of the dupatta). She also wears a bindi or a Tilaka, which personally I think it is more of, which isn’t specifically a problem but helps to prove the Trogs are pulling from Indian asesthetics. Her and the other female Trogs dress in what looks like bellydancing costumes or vaguely Aztec costumes. And while I don’t have a problem with her or the Trogs being inspired by various cultures, the fact that they’re portrayed as savages leaves a sour taste when paired with their outfits being poor, sexualized versions or shallow depictions of real cultures.
Not to mention the forced marriage conflict, is strange. I get using arranged marriages as conflict, this happens in several series, it literally happens multiple times in Winx alone. But it feels downplayed for how uncomfortable Brandon was and for how often Amentia forced herself on him. And while this may be a stretch, it just looks like they’re minimizing female-initiated sexual assault and harassment.
Lastly, the name Trog. This is literally an insult in the english language, it being a shortened version of Troglodyte. It’s already a shitty move to name a species after an insult but to have these stereotypes on top of it, is so much worse.
Tumblr media
Amentia deserved to be taken seriously as a character and not a gross interpretation of women in power, her being aggressive and forceful are not what make a powerful woman powerful. She deserved to learn how to fall in love and not to pick a suitor based on looks or her perfectionist ideas. Her people deserved to stand as interesting characters without being stereotypical or shallow. Also it would’ve been great to see her pop up again in later seasons, especially S3. As one of the only kingdoms that doesn’t use magic it would’ve been interesting to see where she stood against Valtor.
There is so much that could’ve been done with her personality and a character in her position, yet they threw them in for low-stake conflict and filler content.
In short, Princess Amentia deserved better.

Random thoughts: Winx Club S2 part 3
The first Downland episodes weren't really my cup of tea mainly because Amentia irritated the hell out of me, but I also kinda expected more action from Bloom, Stella, Aisha, and Sky's side in rescuing Brandon; after all, if it hadn't been for Amore who put a permament love spell on Amentia, he probably would have had to come to terms with the fact that he's gonna be her husband forever and never see the sun again (literally and metaphorically, by the latter I mean Stella ofc). Let's not forget that Sky didn't even seem to be convinced about rescuing his friend in the first place, it was Stella who couldn't stand the thought of losing Brandon and kept moving forward.
However, when Aisha, Brandon, and Sky came back to Downland to ask for their help in war against Darkar, oh my, now we're talking.
I loved E24 from the very beginning, to be honest. First, Brandon and Sky in action (their friendship shows), them being fooled into getting feathers as a mandatory accessory, cool dialogues with Aisha. Next, this scene:
Brandon: Trog Kingdom can't be far from here.
Guard: When you uplanders gonna show proper respect? It Queendom, not Kingdom.
Later, Amentia demonstrates her awesome martial art skills against Brandon, and also during the actual fight with Darkar's monster army while her soldiers chicken out. She might be a spoilt brat, but in combat she's a fantastic warrior and a brave leader.
And I have to admit that I adore the fact that the guys have to prove that they're worthy of alliance through a duel with the Queen herself and her guard, while Aisha's worth is taken for granted and she observes them while sipping tea (I think I slightly prefer her 4kids voice and what she says in 4kids: "Wow, this is the best tea I've ever had").
So yeah, the second part of the Downland subplot was much more fun.

I got tagged by @rosie-love98 on this:
Tag 9 People you want to get to know better
Thank you and sorry, that it took me so long!
3 ships:
Okay, since I’m tagged on this tumblr account I’ll first go with WINX of course.
1. Driven (Darcy x Riven - Winx Club)
I’ll say it over and over again – they’re perfect. THE POTENTIAL: OMG: If Rainbow had be braver and didn’t focus SO much on Bloom, they could’ve added such an angsty storyline. They build the grounding but never made it to detail and that’s a shame. I may repeat myself, but Darcy was the first one to listen to Riven. To really listen and maybe even the first person after a long time to actually care for him. Of course, she is beautiful and she used that beauty to enchant him but what mattered in the end was that Riven finally found someone who was really interested in him. Someone who saw his ambition and talent. Someone who didn’t see the sparkly outside of perfect Sky and Brandon but who saw this man, who I bet went trough a lot to achieve the right to study at Red Fountain. Finally, someone interested in the one who trained hard to be where was and who wasn’t privileged like other people. Another thing I love about them is the trust and faith Riven had in Darcy who.. in the end destroyed that YES THANKS RAINBOW.  I mean, he never questioned her even though he knew that the Trix’ plans were evil. He did not care about that. Only for her. The betrayal must have been hard. But what about Darcy? How did she feel? Well, we never saw it but regarding her character she might be an overthinker who thinks everything through, who is afraid to show her true self. Darcy seems to be the one who is afraid of losing control and of being betrayed herself. So better destroy than get destroyed? I’m sure she opened up to Riven to some extend and got caught by her own fear of losing control and then overreacted. Maybe. Who know. But the thing is that their end came completely out of the nowhere and I wished the writers had focused a bit more on that instrad of making a cut so that another fairy had a love interest by the end of season 1. It also should have been more focus on their relationship in the following seasons. (I miss the longing stares omg. We could have so much angsty drama!) I think the end of the relationship was not easy for both of them. Darcy lost everything at the end of season 1 and I’m sure she questioned herself a lot after it. Like, what would have happened if etc. And Riven, even more broken than before. What did he think? It’s no secret, that most characters in this show need therapy but these two? Couple therapy maybe lol (now this was long, but that’s when I talk about ships haha)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Brella (Brandon and Stella - Winx Club)
I don’t really talk about the fairies here, but I love Brella. They are such a healthy and dynamic couple. Even as a kid I noticed how harmonic and devoted. I loved, that they got so much attention in the show and that they were the harmonic couple and not Sky and Bloom. They had the storyline in s1 I which Brandon disguised as Prince Sky and lied to her. He was afraid, that Stella would only like him as a prince. And yes, Stella might look superficial at first glance but in fact she is not. And I think she showed a lot of strength in forgiving Brandon who lied to her for a long time. She made no big deal of it even though she is a princess who could have easily married or dated a prince. But she chose Brandon. Then there is the Downland arc at the beginning of season 2 and it wouldn’t have worked with another couple. As I said, they are devoted to each other. Stella fkn jumped after him into that abyss without a second thought? Luckily they survived but then Amentia shows up and Stella almost dies because there is no sunlight in Downland. So to save her life, Brandon agrees to marry Amentia who then agrees to let Stella go. I could fangirl over this arc a lot but I won’t because it already gets too long here. Then s3 in which Stella thinks that it might be just her beauty which Brandon loves (which doesn’t make sense after what they went through) but I think the problem Stella has, is that she was always judged by her looks. She was raised to be a perfect princess and let’s face it, before she met Bloom and the Winx, she had no real friends. However back to the show, Brandon knew that Stella was transformed into that Monster but he did not care. Of course not. He was trying to help her no matter what, just to see her happy again. I won’t focus on the later seasons, because they might still have their cute moments there but after all there was too much beef going on between all the couples and I don’t consider these superficial seasons as canon so I’ll stop here. But Brella is chef’s kiss. The best Winx couple followed by Tecna and Timmy and no one can convince me otherwise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Ethel Hallow x Nick Hobbes - Weirdsister College (Do they have a shipping name?)
Since it was rosie, who tagged me I think I have to take a ship which has nothing to do with Winx but which goes more in the direction of Harry Potter and The Worst Witch. And that is an easy one: Ethel Hallow x Nick Hobbes. OMG the potential, the POTENTIAL! Same as driven, they have so much unused potential even though they were on the best way to build an angsty couple with trust issues and all the drama my fangirl heart needs. I love how Nick noticed right away, that Ethel resembled him. She always played the nice and hardworking students but we all know that she was a devious bitch who used every opportunity to make Mildred look bad. And from her perspective, she did nothing wrong. It was always Mildred who stole the show by breaking the rules and being at school but was in the end the good girl who was appreciated. She always played by the rules (yeah not always but she tried her best) and was ambitious and just wanted to be the number one student, yet who interfered? Always Mildred. It’s no wonder she tried everything to get rid of her. Ethel just wanted a happy school life without interruptions. So she wasn’t innocent at all and Nick knew that. In the first episode of Weirdsister College, he immediately checked that he AND Ethel would not have a chance of passing the all-seeing-eye. He tricked Mildred so that she helped him and used that for him and Ethel to pass the ceremony. He’s the typical bad boy who took advantage of Mildred’s talent and gosh, I wished they hadn’t followed this weird storyline he has with Mildred. Because everything was already there with Ehtel: Both students who tried their best to become the top of the class, both power-driven and both unsure in the end. They have so much in common. And Ethel is, after all, the good girl who fell for the bad boy and she KNOWS that he’s doubtful. She does not trust him but is still fascinated by him. And I just love that trope, okay? Ehtel also gives me hardcore rl Darcy vibes and not, it’s not just because they have the same voice actress I Germany. They’re the dark edgy couple I live for. There could have been done so much if they gave us a second season…..It looked like they were giving up on the Mildred/Nick storyline by episode 9 which was again one big flirt of Ethel and Nick. (The potential!) This is why I hate the way they went on the last episode where it’s like “It’s only you who can save him, Mildred” bullshit. I’m doomed for loving couples the writers seem to hate. I could write an essay about them and I probably will on @yaviae somewhen.

How many fairy forms are there and what villains will you include in the rewrite ?
Because if they are battling Valtor in season 2 with Charmix, does that mean Charmix is a final fairy form?
Ooo this is gonna be a big one!!
Ok so (SPOILERS FOR BLOOMS MAGIC DONT READ IF U WANNA READ THAT COMIC BLIND)
We're doing two sagas that parallel the og series. Saga 1 is seasons 1-3 and saga 2 is seasons 4-6. The villains of saga 1 include the trix, ancestral witches, and valtor. The trix are the same and a lot of season 1 is the same, most notably that final dragon fight with bloom and icy
We end up including charmix, enchantix, harmonix, and emsartwork's elementix across the two sagas (sorry but no believix)
In season 1, darcy uses her dragon power to get into omega and break out valtor so he can help them rule the magic dimension, since he served their ancestors.
When the trix are sent to that rehab place in the clouds, valtor is at half strength and has to stay underground in hiding (also he has to make everyone do stuff for him), he spends a lot of season 2 recovering his strength.
The winx use charmix to rough him up in the final s2 fight, but its not the end. Valtor recovers and even gets strong enough to get out of downland by s3
And yes, hes still got that dope ass phoenix form
So TLDR to answer your question, charmix isnt a final fairy form, valtor is just a multi-season villain.

My Winx Club Rewrite Random Lore Tidbits: Magix
Just like about everyone else in the fandom right now, I made a Winx Club rewrite. It's 3 chapters in right now and I have plans. There's a chance that I might make a sub-blog or whatever devoted to it (but I doubt I will). If you want to read it, it's "Winx Club: Discovering Magix" on Ao3.
Things are relatively the same from what's shown in the show (and some of the comics) but here's some random lore tidbits.
Magix is the exact center of the Magic Dimension so it acts like the capital.
Magix refers to the center planet and the solar system it is in. This all depends on context, though.
Unia (U) is the universal currency in the Magic Dimension and the only currency on Magix. Other planets have additional currencies unique to themselves. 1 USD is worth 150 Unia.
It used to be an absolute monarchy but recently became a republic.
Magix is home to four schools: Alfea College for Fairies, Cloud Tower College for Witches, Red Fountain College for Specialists, and Beta Academy.
Magix as a planet is pretty small. It has only 1 continent and a plethora of islands.
Most of the planet is generally uninhabited and unexplored.
Timmy is from Magix, more specifically a small town very south of Gloomy Wood Forest. (not shown on the map)
The entrance to the Downlands and underground caverns is southwest of Magix City (not shown on the map).
Pixie Village is hidden somewhere in the western Gloomy Wood Forest.
Magix City has an "old town" district that faces Cloud Tower.
Cloud Tower's mountain range is the school's namesake.
Cloud Tower Mountain is in an eternal storm.
Below is a very poorly made map I constructed, not exactly to scale. The yellow-green spot is Black-Mud Swamp and the dark green is Gloomy-Wood Forest. The dark yellow spots are minor population centers.
@referrix was my source for the rough directional locations of the schools (except for Beta Academy because I came up with that)

Winx S2 E20 Pixie Village
Okay so they're quarrelsome and divided, but I don't actually remember them fighting until just now. In the last episode they were literally giving Bloom a makeover
Avalon and Palladium! What a handsome couple
"Drastic measures" = vacation? How about therapy?
"but what about all the classes we'll be missing?" (Flora you nerd) "this is much more important" FARAGONDA. YOU ARE AN EDUCATOR (or supposed to be)!!! You should be letting, I don't know, the army or something handle Darkar, not 6 teenage girls? They should be in school. You know, the school you run (poorly).
"I've invited some specialists" So not only is this bitch making them miss class to take a trip, she's also sending their boyfriends. Peak educator 👌🏻
Icy is so over Darkar. She sounds like a 16 year old talking to their overbearing mother 😂
"Hullo Riven" 😂😂😂
IT'S MY FAVOURITE SCENE 💀💀💀💀
Why is Bloom being such a bitch to Sky 😂😂😂
Not Flora debating over coats for them all to end up in exactly the same thing
Even Avalon 😏 Brandon you jerk 😂
It's a ski hat, isn't it supposed to be warm is literally one of my favourite things Riven's ever said 😂😂😂😂 it's just so innocent and clueless, and he's so adorably confused 😂😂
Look at all the pixies we'll literally never see again
"I'm terrified of heights" "you can fly" THANK YOU TECNA. FINALLY SOMEONE REMEMBERS IT (she says this to a pixie, who is literally almost constantly flying)
"oh no the antidote for Avalon" Livy your home is being attacked!
Livy's power is to turn anything into a skateboard (airboard?), including Codexes.
Note to self: absolutely include Sky and Riven trash talking each other while snowboarding when I eventually get there
Aisha beating them like the queen she is
Did I miss something? How did Icy end up in Downland?
It's getting quite dark well yeah Flora you guys decided to go skiing when you only had 43 minutes of daylight left
She's having fun without Avalon. Brandon is living for this
Stella was totally ready to transform and leave the guys behind 💀
Let's keep our cool and work together stfu Bloom
Amentia never surrenders. Yes Amentia!
Does Timmy have a calculator with him 😂😂😂
Amentia just called Icy a hussy 💀
Let's hope it works as well as it looks. That glider looks like patchwork that'll lead to their death 😅
Why are they having a chat as floating heads in the snow 😂😂😂 fucking get up
What weakness did Bloom overcome to gain her Charmix? Stubbornness?

So I've been thinking about that time loop au and nfksjdd
Ok so the obvious way this would go down is that the Winx, at the end of season 4, wake up back at the start of the show
Bloom is really confused as to why Mike and Vanessa bought her the same bike?? And then Stella falls in, in her intro outfit, and they're like "Wait. What day is it?" And they both realize they've gone back in time
Aisha, waking up in her old bed room to her nanny lecturing her about all the rules about sleeping and waking up shes not following: OH FUCK NO
Aisha, calling Stella after she jumped out of the window: Pick me up
Stella: I'll pass off Aisha as my friend, and I'll just tell Griselda that I found a fairy on earth. What the fuck is she going to do? Let the last earth fairy flounder
Bloom: oh my god are we just gonna have to let Faragona lie to us
Aisha, vibrating in her seat: I get to be included on the early stuff
Tecna, Flora and Musa are already in the dorm room like GUYS WHAT THE FUCK
and the princess trio is like WE KNOW
Tecna: does this mean we have the upper hand over the Trix???
Musa: oh god, pre-therepy Riven
Flora: we have to re take all our classes
Stella: We! Are! In! Hell!
I like to imagine they're still in their magic winx form just so they can bitch about it bdnsns and complain
The Trix are technically stronger than them because the Winx are in their weakest form, but the Winx have years of experience fighting them so it's weirdly even
Stormy: something fuck-y is going on with thes girls
Icy: Darcy, figure it out
Darcy: Fine
Later, when Darcy is trying to sneak into their dorm
Musa: BEEP BEEP BITCH, I CAN HEAR YOU
Flora: what about Roxy
Bloom: oh my god, what about Roxy
Anyways it's just the girls being unhinged during s1
The Trix probably still manage to steal Bloom's power and they're all very grumpy about it
And then they try to warn everyone during s2 and NO ONE LISTENS, Rip
The Winx:
Avalon:
The Winx: Don't you try to double back, I already despise you
Bloom: wait, how the fuck are we going to achieve Charmix
Musa: *screams into a pillow*
Dark Bloom wouldn't happen. S2 would be a fucking mess
Musa still gets her consert
Stella, Bloom and Aisha conspire to stop the downland plot
Bloom: we're still gonna fuck with Mitzi, right?
Musa: yeah obviously
Griffin would be so dumbstuck during twinning witches bc they act like a well oiled machine
There's not much they can do about Valtor, they just have to suffer though season 3
Stella, grabbing Chimera: Never talk to me or my little sister ever again
Aisha is grinding her teeth at the state of Andros but can't do much, but she does grab Nabu early on into the season
Nabu is all like ⁄(⁄ ⁄•⁄-⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄ bc the coolest fairy he's ever met is suddenly hitting on him and what deity's favor did he happen to garner
Stella doesn't get turned into a monster at her princess ball by Cassandra, anything that ruins my sister au will be changed no exceptions, bc Stella was expecting it
Enchantix is gained different but still gained bc these girls don't know what self preservation is
Fighting Valtor is easier because they know what he's gonna do next, but still hard bc Valtor
But since they already know about the water stars and aren't gonna believe Valtor's bullshit, after they all get Enchantix they nearly murder him and he gets away in his true form gravely injured in panic mode
S4 is so easy however bc they just grab Roxy, get the Believix powers, don't free the earth faries until after they've kicked the wizards back to where they belong and then deal with the earth faries
Nabu is closely guarded at this time, he is very confused, but appreciates that every one seems to care about him so much
And then what ever caused the loop doesn't happen again and everything is a-ok dksndjsjd
I'm also thinking about Riven getting to naturally go though a redemption arc with out Darcy setting him back and pushing him forward
Everyone keeps mixing up Sky and Brandon's names, and Brandon knows they know but doesn't know how
Bloom meets up with Diaspro instead of fighting her, and that plot point gets so much weirder
Bloom: btw I'm gonna free you from your abusive parents
Diaspro: um?????
They'd be so happy when they get Enchantix back, bc they'd feel so squished in magic Winx and Charmix
During the first movie when Riven starts acting weird, Aisha just puts him in a bubble bc Musa will not be getting stabbed again
They speed run that too jngkwkekem
This is all very amusing to me

Magix
Magix is a highly prominent planet located at the center of the Magic Dimension. Aside from being also the major city situated on it, it is the capital of all the realms within the Magical Universe, as well as the "Crossroads to All Magical Dimensions." Due to the three major schools being located on the planet, Magix acts as a major setting for most of the Winx.
Magix is one of the only Planets in the magic dimension that isnt a monarchy. i see it as a free market place and each planet has a representative there as a democracy thing, and also people born on Magix get a representative as well.
Locations within Magix:
Alfea School for Fairies, Adquistes, Barrier Mountains, Veil Mist Forest, Red Tower, Black Mud Swamp, Cloud Tower School for Witches, Magix City, Red Fountain School for Specialists
Gloomy Wood Forest - Pixie Village - Story Tree, Tree of Life, Tree of Portals)
Pixie Village is the home of the pixies and where the magical trees like the Tree of Life, the Tree of Portals, and the Story Tree are located.
Roccaluce Gorge - Lake Roccaluce, Fortress of Light
Underground of Magix - Darkar's Fortress, Downland, Magix Underground World

What were some big hang-ups you had about the early seasons 1-3 do you think some stories should have been completely cut or expanded more?
OOOH THIS IS JUICY
Well for starters I think basically everything should've been expanded more lol. I just want more!! But let's see
LESS
Darkar. I just don't like him I think he's dumb and boring and it's way too early in the series to be introducing a character who's supposed to be a deity of cosmic evil
Sky and Bloom romance. Their relationship can still be centered but it needs to be Ending
that. Fake teacher subplot with Avalon
the Codex. They can still gather pieces of a magic macguffin but not a portal to the ultimate magic whatever
Bloom reading auras. And that whole subplot tbh. I like having Gardenia plots but this one was pointless and introduced a power that has to be ignored later
pixies. They are annoying
the water stars. I like the trials to get them, but the water stars themselves wind up being pretty pointless
MORE
splitting the winx up because not all of them should be on the same mission! Showcasing their unique strengths and weaknesses! The Downland plot was great for this
unique character interactions in general. This includes paying more attention to the specialists!
pixies. I want them to be better developed
Stormy and Musa rivalry
witches!!!!!!! Cloudtower!!!!!!!!
time devoted to the winx earning their charmix lol
seeing the winx home planets
I think the gist of this boils down to 'replace the entire A-plot of season 2' and 'add more B-plot content to season 3' lol

Chapter 6 of The Shadow is up!
Sorry for the wait, it turns out it takes quite a long time to edit a 6k word chapter. But I have covered all of the mission to Darkar’s cavern in this one (no, there is no Downland).
As usual, CWs are in the notes at the beginning and if you think I’ve missed one, please do let me know.

Question: What's the difference between planets, realms and dimensions in your opinion on Winx Club?
Ooooh love this question. So this is my understanding of the difference between the three and the logic I use for my fics. (this got long so under the cut)
Dimensions:
if you're thinking of the three in terms of size, dimensions would be the biggest. a collection of planets, suns, moons, stars, etc. are contained within a dimension, say for instance the Magical Dimension. you can move around physically within the dimension without the aid of magic (ie. using the specialists' ships to fly from planet to planet), but to cross into another dimension (ie. the non magical dimension) you need to use some kind of portal/transportation magic.
the two biggest dimensions that i reference in my fic are simply the magical and non-magical dimensions although that isn't to say that there aren't more and they're the biggest because they contain multiple planets/moons/etc.
but i also reference something called pocket dimensions which essentially follow the same "rules" (cannot enter physically without the aid of magic) but derive their name from their smaller sizes. examples of these are the omega dimension, obsidian, and realix. the first two are used as prisons which is handy because the prisoners can't physically break out unless they have access to their magic. while realix was like the magical dimension with multiple magical planets but has since become uninhabitable..
realms and planets:
realms and planets kind of go hand in hand even though they aren't necessarily the same thing. "realm" is simply another name for kingdom/country/territories/etc. in the magical dimension. so solaria, eraklyon, zenith, sparx, they're all realms with their own ruling system/laws/culture etc.etc.
now most of the time one realm takes up a whole planet. so imagine that earth wasn't divided into countries and it was just all Earth with a overarching ruling system, an overarching set of laws, etc.
but there are also planets that are divided up into realms (so basically earth as we actually know it). examples include Tides and Andros, two different realms that occupy the same planet (Tides being the underwater realm of mermaids, Andros being the land realm that Layla's family rules over), and who are close allies but still have their own separate royal families. another example are the Under Realms which occupy the same planet but are divided into territories (or "realms"), two of which are Downland and Shadowhaunt.
and then you have places like the harmonic nebula where one royal family rules over a cluster of smaller planets but it's considered one "realm".
i hope that's not too confusing! i guess the best way to think of it is that the term planet refers to physical/geographical space, while the term realm references a nation with a ruling system/laws/culture who's territory could be part of a planet/a whole planet/or multiple planets.

Who do you think is the strongest Trix in terms of powers? I know Icy is the leader, but somehow I could imagine that Darcy is more powerful than her because of the whole darkness and illusion thing. I mean, doesn't she draw her power from the darkness and it is practically everywhere?
I think Icy’s the strongest and a lot of that is owed to her drive and intent. She’s the most driven and ambitious of the three and she commands a great deal of respect and loyalty from her sisters as well as from her peers. If she didn’t have Darcy or Stormy, I fully believe that she would be capable of finding other people to fill in those roles. Not to mention that she as a person is capable of winning people’s loyalty (The witches in s1 who attacked Musa just because Icy said so.) Icy has the vision and the organizational and people skills necessary and that is her greatest strength more than her ice powers are. Her ice powers are also very flexible in their use, they aren’t relegated strictly to offense in the way Stormy’s are, but they also have actual physical offensive abilities unlike Darcy’s. If I had to pick one of the Trix… I’d say Icy.
I think Stormy’s the most powerful in terms of raw power. It’s not an accident that her attacks do seem to have the strongest impact on her opponents, especially on a physical level. We see her regularly landing attacks that both hit and damage the Winx on multiple occasions. Her powers are the most directly offensive (there aren’t many ways to use storm magic defensively) and so she compensates with very strong offense in the hopes that it will be enough to overpower her opponent with sheer raw power and I think it works well for her… to an extent. Her attacks can be somewhat predictable as a result and we see other people negate her attacks (Musa’s weird rain dance in s2.) I think if she developed her powers beyond “throw lightning at opponent” and developed certain mentalities and skills (ie people skills, organizational skills) I could see her vying with Icy for leadership (which was mentioned a few times in supplemental material for s1.)
I think Darcy’s powerful for her knowledge. I think the fandom latches onto her as the most powerful of the three and I’m not sure that’s the case. In terms of her powers, I’m not sure they translate the best in terms of battle. Her powers translate well to intimidation and disorientation of the enemy, which work well if she has the upper hand and is paired with someone who does have actual offensive abilities (ie Stormy) but on her own that leaves her very vulnerable (Brandon knocks her out easily with a boomerang in s1 and she’s out of commission for the rest of the fight.) I also think it’s a weakness she’s aware of. We know she’s the most well learned of the three and that her powers are more flexible (fire, levitation, strength, some earth) and extend beyond her “core magic” in ways we don’t see in many other characters. Additionally, I think her powers are more an extension of her skillset than with the others. She’s manipulative and that ties in very well with her illusory powers, and we see her use them in tandem with one another (when she uses both her knowledge of Riven’s insecurities along with the illusion that he faces in the dungeons at the end of S1.) I think Darcy’s the most flexible and the most aware of her weakness and works to counter them but she has a lot of weaknesses.
I’m not sure how much power source contributes to this argument since we see that none of the characters actually need their power source to be present. Icy regularly conjures ice out of nowhere and Stormy’s storms and lightning attacks are generally self generated. I don’t think darkness being everywhere necessarily gives Darcy an advantage any more than air being everywhere gives Stormy an advantage. And that extends to people outside the Trix too: Bloom regularly conjures fire out nowhere, Tecna is able to use her powers even in locations that have no business having any form of technology (Omega.) Yes, Stella requires light to power her but she’s able to conjure light even in the dark. I imagine it’s similar for Darcy, I think being subject to light 24/7 would affect her similarly to how Downland affected Stella but it shouldn’t affect the actual output of her powers.
