10 years

As you may know, wtnv has recently hit its ten year anniversary.  Now personally, I haven’t been around for 10 years, or 5, or even two. 

In fact, I only started listening to wtnv on April 2nd of 2022, this year.

Im not far in, i don’t have a heart warming story of how it shaped my youth. 

But that’s because it still is. Even though my history with Night Vale is a mere blip in its vast decade (and counting) of influence, it still means so much to me. 

Because no matter how far in, or not, someone is,  Wtnv changes them, however small.

Welcome to Night Vale is still one of the most amazing, bizarre, and representative piece of media I’ve ever come across. 

Although my search has just begun, it will keep that place in my heart with me.

You know...when I say that Night Vale changed my life, that's not a statement I make lightly.

I first got into the podcast at a really low time in my life and it helped pull me from rock bottom. Over the time I've listened to it, I've changed. Grown. As a person. As an artist.

This podcast introduced me some amazing art and music and people. I had no idea that starting a weird lil podcast would be the reason I'd meet the love of my life. That I'd be alive to move across the country to be with him.

I'm not really great with translating my thoughts into words but with all of my heart, thank you Night Vale. For being a safe haven. For simply existing.

To a life time more.

to me one of cecils prominent fears is his loss of identity / sense of self / not knowing who the real version of himself is (ie the mirror stuff, mind control, age etc.) and that is so good because like, i get why he hated steve so so so much how, from his pov, he had to watch steve slowly replace him in his own family unit — a family unit that was already so small and fragile and barely healed and scarred from its trauma. and steve offered even more than what cecil was able (which was stronger emotional support for abby, and probably better financial support for janice)

thinking about cecil’s abandonment issues and how his worth is attached to what he can do for others, what he can offer, connecting through shared experience but never looking too closely at himself— and how lonely it probably felt to feel like he wasn’t needed anymore by the only people in his life.

okay yeah year ten bad year ten bad i agree but i can never hate it entirely bc the sitter cancelled is so dear to me . JUST for the scene of cecil sweetly reading that sad little story about the little bunny who can never escape his mom to his kid, his son that he loves, who he cares for so much, showing that he HAS escaped his own mom in this very moment through the gentleness with which he treats his son which his mother did not afford to him . makes me sniffle
