Hi can I request a dadlevi x momreader where they have a teenage daughter and the 104th cadet boys gave a crush on her and Levi gets really protective and the reader has to reassure him that she's not a baby anymore pleaseeee thank you😁
welp, i’m usually slow as a sloth with requests but if you don’t mind it being a short drabble i can sure as hell crack up sth soo sorry if it’s a bit too short but here goes, hope you like it anonie (also i kind of said trabble and it turned out 1500 words, sorry) ________________________________________________
“This is getting out of hand, Levi.” Your words were low around the table at the mess hall as your raven-haired husband fixed the cadets across from you with a murderous glare. You put a hand to his tense shoulder and could distinctly hear Mike and Hanji snort from next to you at Levi’s click of the tongue - still, his abuse didn’t stop.
Your daughter glanced at her father once, smiling happily from her place in between the cheerful males of the 104th squad and proceeding to be rather oblivious when it came to his foul mood. Admittedly, he hadn’t spoken about it to anybody but, as the mother of his rather grown-up child and the woman who’d spent well over two decades with him already, you didn’t need a verbal explanation to gather why he was being so pissy.
Since your daughter had been enlisted in the Corps (something her and Levi and you and her had had two separate rather long arguments about), she was in the spotlight, or, well, something of the sort. She was kind enough to communicate with her peers and funny enough to make them laugh, and the looks she’d mostly inherited from you did its part when it came to charming the rookies you’d later checked were named Jean Kirstein, Reiner Braun, Connie Springer, Armin Arlert and partly, the very special Eren Jaeger.
They were her comrades and she regarded them as such - close people she would protect and work with in the future, and they regarded her the same with just a little bit of an ulterior motive. Naturally, parents were good at noticing those stuff and the usually emotion-incompetent Levi Ackerman was no exception when it came to Jean’s heart eyes mirroring his own aimed at you in the past.
As a good father who couldn’t, however, reveal his identity straight-up, he made sure to mentor the kids as harshly as he could, strict in his teachings and rather sadistic out of them. The poor boys had handled stable and kitchen duty more than any previous rookies enlisted and two or three of them had gotten lucky enough to clean up a whole storage of 3DM gear and run laps till they fainted. You were nurturing when it came to those undeserved mishaps and ended up playing the good cop who gave the poor boys water and let them sleep for the rest of the day.
Levi didn’t know it but the harder his punishments got, the more reason his daughter had to pity the boys and question her father’s behaviour. We arrive at a moment where he could no longer think of a suitable punishment to pull through with enough reason and, of course, your endless nagging on the topic. Your daughter didn’t need to know about this secret little bickering, as the cadets didn’t know she was your child and nobody but the superiors were aware of your relationship with Humanity’s Strongest Soldier.
“I’m just monitoring.” The raven’s excuse was laughable as you were leaving the mess hall and he literally stalked his daughter and her tall charmers to the training fields, where you decided to pull him along into the building and have a little talk.
“This is ridiculous, do you realise what you’re doing?” Your question struck nothing in him as he made his way to the second floor of the building only so he could observe from above the training the 104th cadets would undertake with Hanji. His hawk eyes pierced the window and the boys surrounding his precious little baby, and in that moment you felt a little soft when it came to reprimanding him.
“I’m watching my fucking child.” He argued with a grumble and crossed arms, making you sigh as you leaned against the window and observed his features. You could guess only by the pissed off twitch of his brow your daughter had been paired to combat with some of the boys he so disliked.
“But she’s not in danger.” You objected with a snort to which he rolled his eyes. “Also our child.” The addition made his frown more sarcastic, then you pushed at his shoulder and glanced outside. The sun was shining and your husband was silent - and you had to be a good wife and mother at the same time. “Now, I need you to hear me out. Our daughter is fifteen years old and she’s part of the worst group possible. Maybe we can concern ourselves more with her safety and happiness, not so much with the boys she has as friends.”
“It’s unacceptable for them to slack off this much, not to mention you’re defending her. You pointed it out, she’s just fifteen.” The emphasis was a cold slap in your face, then you were eyeing him pointedly.
“Levi,” his grey hues left the window for a second to lock with your gaze, “I was fifteen when I met you.” Your words made him suck in a breath but his obstinance had no limits when it came to his overprotective nature.
“All the more fucking reason for me to protect her.”
“No, all the more reason for us to watch from afar and let her live her life. She’s a teenager once and the fact she’s bonding with her comrades isn’t going to kill her.” The brow he quirked at you made you glare, then you beat him to speaking. “She’s not a baby anymore, we take care of her, yes, but we have to give her some freedom too. Otherwise, we’ll get a rebellious period and I can’t handle managing both your explosive asses once that happens.” His spiteful snort was provocative but his figure turned away from the window to glare at you - good, so he was buckling.
“My ass is explosive only when I drink too much coffee.” His childish retort made you chuckle - you took it as him admitting defeat by not addressing the issue any further.
“And when Hanji cooks.” Your joke called forth an eye-roll from him, then his lips pursed and you smiled at his pale countenance. “It’s fine being worried, she’s been sheltered her whole life and suddenly you’re forced to watch her form connections with people who’re not us. I would say, however,” your smile slowly curled into a smirk as you glanced at the training fields through the window, “she can beat up the boys if they annoy her without your help.”
His brows furrowed and his attention followed your gaze, and you watched your fifteen-year-old daughter flip the blond Reiner Braun over her shoulder with a move Levi had taught her when she was ten. He fell to the ground and, from experience, you knew how much it hurt when all the air was pushed out of your lungs in that moment. Next thing he knew, a foot had stepped on his dominant hand’s wrist and a small hand held a wooden knife to his throat.
In your peripheral vision, you saw the satisfied flicker in Levi’s orbs and decided he wouldn’t be arguing with you on the topic of this anymore. Also, he might as well spare the boys their duties. If his daughter could handle the biggest one this easily, she could land a kick to the testicles effortlessly if any of them proved problematic. You shook your head at the sight and how proud Levi seemed due to it, then you realised he was back to watching you.
“On the topic of us meeting when you were still a brat, are you insinuating anything?” You began waving your hands around in a “no” when he glared at the field, then at you. You’d just denied when he tactfully cut in with: “Far as I remember, you jumped me and you had eighteen.” You let out an awkward laugh and his glare got all the more deadly.
“Haha, about that. I actually lied so you’d let me.” The slow admittance slipped past your dry lips and you watched your husband doubt everything you’d told him in your shared life. You could see him recall everything and make sure he was in the right - except you’d been stupid as a teenager and twice as scheming.
“But your birthday had passed.” He argued coldly, unsuspecting of the truth and ever so sweet because he put so much trust in you.
“And about that, my birthday’s kind of a month after the date I told you.” You watched his eyes widen and began ranting, as per tradition when he came close to blowing a fuse and you wanted to avoid being collateral damage. “I know what you’re thinking, I’m so lucky that my wife is even younger than I thought she was, she’s so attractive and youthful---”
“I’m thinking how I’m about to beat your ass in our next combat session for lying to me for twenty fucking years, that’s what I’m thinking.”

In the fifteen days of your absence
Pairing: Reader x Reiner Braun
Tags/Warning: deep angst in the end
Summary: Reiner wanted to leave you, but you chose to leave him first.
Word Count: 1.5K
A/N: Written half-drunk at 4 AM. Very unstructured piece that I wrote in a whim. Just me being overwhelmed with emotion. So please, bare with me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a prolonged misery in the way Reiner Braun saw the world, in a rather apocalyptic outlook which made wariness became a permanent figure throughout the course of his life, he couldn't help but to incessantly ponder on his role in the world. Every day, every waking moment in his short, miserable life. Like it was an urgency that he had to find answer to immediately.
"What was I destined to be?" was the question he pondered every morning. He had grown to believe that everyone was made for single, destined role and he was on an never-ending quest to find his. You often thought, what was it that drove the man into the verge of such desperation to find an answer? "Doesn't that depend on what you choose to do every day?" you once asked, as the two of you laid naked on your bed. He didn't utter a word afterward, but he knew your answer-slash-question wasn’t up to his appetite for philosophical discourse. He just rolled over away from you and succumbed into silence until the next morning when he left your apartment without saying goodbye. Even in the path where he left, you could sense he left with utter disappointment towards you.
He didn't reach out to you after his shift. Nor did he send the customary good morning text that had grown to be habitual rather than a display of affection over the past three years you had been with him. You waited patiently until the night came, yet still there was no sign of him. That night, you slept anxiously, jolting out of drowsiness each time your phone buzzed, only to find that it was just a typhoon warning. You didn’t care, all you wanted to know was how Reiner was.
The next morning, out of fright of somewhat the expected disappointment, the first thing you did in the morning was shoving your phone underneath your pillow, as you got ready for work. You didn’t want to have your heart shattered by the non-existing message or missed calls from Reiner. That was the least you could do to refrain having an anxiety attack an hour away before your shift started.
At lunch, your Japanese bento tasted bland. And the words of your manager rung into your eardrums like a mere inconvenience. You had grown antsy by that point, and you had not checked your phone since the morning. You continued to torture yourself by putting your phone on Airplane Mode. You couldn’t bear having each minute neurotically checking your phone to see whether Reiner had texted your or not.
By the third day, you caved in. You finally operated your phone because you had to call your grocer for a weekly delivery. When things were okay, Reiner would come by and walk with you to the nearby deli. He would buy three bottles of his favorite ranch, one that he would store at your house, one at his mum’s, and one for his own storage at home. But now that he was off the grid, you didn’t feel like leaving your apartment and opted for a delivery instead. The courier was grim, didn’t say thank you even after a rather generous tip. He was listening to Happy Days Are Here Again, the melodious tunes seeped through his headphone. What an odd irony, you thought to yourself as you closed the door on him.
There was a sickening anticipation as you waited for your phone to load, and when the homepage popped open you felt nausea looming as you found no sign of Reiner neither in your inbox nor your call log.
You had grown accustomed to the anxiety of being with Reiner. As if being nauseous, with your heart thumping all night, wondering his whereabout, is the default state that came with dating the man with those sorrowful eyes.
Reiner Braun. That man.
He had affinity for leaving in the quietest fashion, putting you in the dark over what went wrong. Beating yourself up for his departure. Sometimes it would be because of the little thing you said mindlessly, or the way Reiner felt like he had been treated by you in a way that he regarded as distasteful. But he never told you about it, he would just disappear into the thin air and let you succumbed into your own misery in the complete absence of him, until you came to your sense into what wrongdoing you might have committed.
Yet, despite knowing his playbook already, still you were the willing victim, “Reiner, I’m sorry. Please, forgive me.” Were the words he would be waiting from you.
“Do you love me still?” once Reiner asked, when the two of you were soaked underneath the summer rain because Reiner forgot to bring the umbrella although you had reminded him numerous times before stepping out of the apartment. You thought the question was a misfit given the circumstances, but he looked dead serious as he wiped his eyes from drips of the water that drenched the two of you.
“Yes. I do.” You said, to which he nodded with no smile.
For the longest time you wondered what did he mean by that? Until you realized too late, that he was so scared of being left, that his question was his desperate way to commit you into forgiving him after a small mistake he had done. Later, you were bed-ridden from the cold you got after being drenched for hours, and he asked you again, “Do you love me?” You had no other choice but to plant a deep kiss on his soft, thin lips as an answer. A display of forgiveness he was yearning for.
Reiner’s absence persisted like the growing pain he caused within you that was only becoming more gaping as days go by. When fifteen days had passed, your friends started to chirp, ‘Why don’t you just come to his house?’; ‘But you have tried calling him right?’. You couldn’t quite explain the strange way you understood Reiner, in silence, in certain distance, in mutual recognition of each other’s disdain.
You knew he had blocked your caller ID, and how should you tell your friends that you never went to his home more than once before? Because you could feel the palpable reluctance in him as once, years ago, you insisted to drive him home. “In certain distance, did our love find no resistance,” he once declared.
In resistance did our hearts bound with happenstance,
and in happenstance did we end in desistance.
Reiner. Reiner. Reiner. You thought of him relentlessly. Was it only a happenstance that you uttered the wrong choice of words as he asked for validation of his role in life? What was it that he wanted to hear from you anyway? Maybe: ‘You are destined for something big, Reiner.’ Did the happenstance finally led him to desist from further effort in loving you?
The thought persisted when you walked down the street that night, out for a beer on your own. As you passed through the lonely buildings of your neighborhood, the reminiscing of his form made your thoughts murky, as you crossed the avenue in scurry, with your gaze that had gone blurry.
You couldn’t make out of it, but a very loud noise suddenly deafened your ear and you could feel your body tossed into the air and fell into a hard surface. You could feel nothing as you slipped into the abyss of nothingness. Was it the sound of Reiner calling for you finally?
Tumblr media
“Do you love me?” you heard a voice. A deep, sad voice coming from a mouth of a man with sorrowful eyes.
“Yes, I do.” you answered. But still he asked, “Do you love me?”
And he asked again, “Do you love me?” and again, and again, no matter how much you have answered, “Yes, I do, Reiner. Yes, I do.” still he asked the same thing, “Do you love me?”
You didn’t know where you were, you could hardly see the man that you had loved with your demure heart, despite the desolation of his heart. You could only hear his voice, calling out for you like you wished he had been in those fifteen days of his absence.
“Reiner,” someone said, a kindly voice of mature wisdom. She sounded a lot like your mum, “let her go.”
“I can’t,” he refused, his voice broke in despair, “not until she answers me.”
“Baby, do you love me? Do you love me?”
You shouted with all your might, “I do, Reiner! I do!”
Yet he heard no words. He held you close in his cradle, yet still he knew you were slipping away. Underneath the bright lights of an ER did your body lay cold. Reiner had came late after he was told, “She got hit by an eight-wheeler,” a colleague told him over the phone. Even then, Reiner knew he had lost you, but still he wished for the last chance to make amend. It was true he contemplated to leave you, but never did he expect he’d be given no second chance to atone.
In his cradle, you finally went away. Underneath his tears, your face drenched once again. In the agonizing realization did Reiner find himself, drowned in his regret on how he had chosen to spend the last fifteen days he would ever have with you.

"reiner! is that really you?!"
you stood quickly from your place at the booth, unable to stop yourself from scrambling up to the small group of soldiers, who were all looking down at you with a mixture of confusion and amusment.
"you didn't tell us you had a girlfriend back home, braun." the dark-haired woman to his right teased, earning a crossed frown from your friend.
"not my girlfriend." he muttered, ignoring their chuckles as he turned his attention back to you, "i haven't changed that much in a few months, have i?"
you sighed, a relieved grin breaking out across your face as he opened his arms to you, gratefully accepting his invitation and squeezing him tight, face pressing into his shoulder. the scent of gunpowder that usually clung to him in his uniform was absent on his civilian clothes, replaced instead with the pleasant smell of fresh linen. "a few months? felt more like a whole year to me."
you stayed cognizant of the people behind him, now exchanging curious glances at the sight of their comrade's affection, the woman who'd initially teased him whispering something to the stern looking man by her side that made his expression crack into a small grin. he pulled away from you after a moment, a soft smile warming his usually sullen features, which dampened at a hand being placed on his shoulder.
"would you care to introduce us, reiner?" a low voice asked, the speaker stepping to reiner's side to get a good look at you.
you instantly recognized the man, face flushing with embarrassment as you scrambled to find your words. "c-captain jaeger! i apologize for interrupting your evening, p-please forgive-"
"nonsense." he said, holding out his hand for you to shake, "and no need for the formalities, feel free to call me zeke."
you clasped your hands gratefully around his, shaking vibrantly much to his amusement. you exchanged names with the remaining three, the tired looking but jovial woman, pieck, insisting that you join them on their night out. seeing as you had already planned to be at the old bar for the rest of the night by yourself, you had no qualms with inviting them all to fill the remaining seats of the booth you'd been occupying before they entered.
"pock here isn't much of a talker," she said after everyone got themselves situated, poking the cheek of the man she'd been whispering to earlier, "he's a little shy, but don't hold it against him."
"i thought i told you not to call me that.." he grumbled in reply, smacking away her hand and earning a small round of laughter from everyone at the table. the freshest face among them, colt, flagged down the barmaiden that was milling about the tavern floor, ordering a beer for everyone at the table with a kind smile.
"this'll be the only one for me tonight." you told him across the table after the woman had sauntered away, "i kinda didn't budget to be drinking more than one beer tonight anyways.."
"don't worry about it." you turned at reiner's voice beside you, gaze flitting down to see him thumbing through the bills in his wallet, "i'll pay for you tonight. my treat."
"nice to see that you know how to treat a lady." zeke quipped with a grin from his place on your left, earning another unreadable frown from reiner, but you could see the flush creeping up on his cheeks as a result of the implication.
before he could dismiss his friend, the barmaiden had returned, toting six mugs filled to the brim with beer on her serving platter. everyone murmured their thanks as she passed them around the table, her eyes lingered on colt before she slipped away to attend to another awaiting party.
"look at you, colt! haven't even been here for thirty minutes and you've already got the ladies swooning." pieck drawled, taking a long sip from her mug with a smile on her lips as she watched the young man stammer out an excuse.
you couldn't help but laugh along at the display, taking a generous drink of your own as you watched the conversation pick up around you. pieck seemed to be more than comfortable with everyone at the table, fueling the majority of the discussion with her playful words. porco, as she'd said, didn't seem to be much of a talker, but nodded along to what the others said, contributing a brief input when he saw fit and staying silent for the rest of the time. colt wasn't naive, but he was easy to tease, the perfect target for little jabs here and there from around the table that drew irritated, flustered protests from him and made everyone laugh.
the dynamic that had intrigued you the most was that between zeke and reiner. they didn't speak directly to the other often, mostly relaying remarks through their responses to the others, but when they did, there seemed to be an odd sort of tension between them. not exactly rivals, but not exactly friends either. they were on the same team, but there was a clear disconnect between them despite that. you felt every slight shift that reiner made when zeke addressed him, debating on whether you should request to move from your place between them for your sake or stay as a buffer for reiner's.
everyone was on their third glass—the only exception being reiner, who was nearly through his fourth—definitely loosened up though not quite drunk yet, but before you could put much thought into how you'd go about doing that, porco spoke to you for the first time. "so, how do you even know reiner?"
"oh! i'd also like to know too!" pieck piped up between sips, downing the rest of her mug in one go and resting her chin in her hands. everyone's attention had turned to you in an instant, intently waiting for your response, making your posture stiffen as you twisted your hands in your lap.
"well, it was a few years ago, when the war with the mid-east had just started ramping up." you began, tensing up the slightest bit when you felt your hand brush reiner's under the table, "i was working at the produce shop down on kaiser lane, and one day reiner came by with his mother on one of her grocery visits, she had always spoken to me about him when i was counting up her total. i asked her if this was son she was always talking about, and she said yes and introduced us. reiner looked tired," pieck giggled at that. "so i tried to hurry it up a little for his sake, and then she paid and they both went on their way. later that day i came here, and i saw him sitting alone at the counter, so i decided to sit down next to him and see if he could put up with my insufferable small talk for a little while. we ended up talking all night, and we've been great friends since then."
"well, isn't that the sweetest thing," pieck smiled warmly at you from across the table, balancing her head on one hand so could pensively drum her fingers across the wood, "if i didn't know any better, i'd say you two made a lovely couple!"
"pieck, would you stop bothering reiner." porco chided, waving a hand at your friend, "just look at him, he looks like he's one more girlfriend comment away from popping a blood vessel."
reiner grumbled out a low 'fuck you', gulping down the rest of his beer and flagging down the barmaiden as the rest of the warriors shared a hearty laugh at his expense. you yourself were similarly blushing at their constant assertions of something more between the two of you. it's not as if you hadn't mulled the idea over in your head many times before on all the previous outings you'd been on together, and the few times the two of you had gotten drunk enough to fool around a bit before one of you came to your senses and excused yourself for the night.
there were some days where you were glad you kept a modest distance between yourselves, and there were others where you wanted to do nothing more than throw all caution to the window and just enjoy one irresponsible night of doing whatever came to mind, no doubts or worries or responsibilities to get in the way, politics and the war be damned. you started to shake away those unnecessary thoughts, but zeke did a much better job of distracting you when his arm fell around your shoulders, giving you a friendly squeeze as he spoke.
"i see that even in good company, my colleagues' manners still aren't up to par," he said, directing his words at you but talking loud enough for anyone to hear, "allow me to apologize on their behalf."
"oh hush, zeke, you're the worst out of all of us!" pieck argued through her laughter, playfully kicking his shin under the table, "you're only playing nice because she's here."
her words didn't draw his attention away from your face, gleaming grey eyes intently drinking in the emotions passing over your flushed features. you laughed nervously, turning away to face the rest of the table, sneaking a glance at reiner as the barmaiden swept by to clean up the empty glasses and replace them with filled mugs. he had an irritated frown drawn across his lips, worry lines creasing his face as he gulped down half of his mug in seconds.
"look's like you're finally not the one overdoing it, huh colt?" you heard pieck whisper into the young man's ear, snickering at him when he turned away from her and huffed.
just glancing around at them all made you forget that everyone of them were living on borrowed time, that in less than a month they would most likely be shipped out on their next assignment to defend marley against any one of the neighboring nations that were just waiting to pounce at the slightest slip up. aside from reiner, they all seemed to be forgetting that fact as well in favor of just enjoying this night while it was still young.
another banter-filled hour passed, your table not noticing how the bar had been steadily emptying as closing time drew near. zeke had kept his grasp around you for the entire time, much to reiner's dismay, which was evident on his face each time you tried to coax him back into the conversation, always faltering each time zeke peered over you to repeat your question to him with a thinly veiled haughtiness. reiner had gone through more beer than anyone at the table, his flushed face and low-lidded gaze along with his slurring words letting you know just how drunk he'd really become. but aside from his borderline unpleasant exchanges with your friend, zeke was incredibly charismatic, almost overbearingly so, your own intoxication making it easy for you give in to his infectious energy and laugh along with him and everyone else at the table.
sure, you were worried about reiner, but he knew that you would always be friends at the end of the day, and you had to make a good impression on these newly introduced people who were so kind as to invite you in on one of their rare leisurely getaways from the military barracks. so you let yourself lean into zeke's side, relishing in the warmth that you'd been craving for so long—a warmth that the alcohol only made you want more and more—the break in your routine that you'd been searching for in an evening alone turning into a night that you were sure you wouldn't forget for a long time. they didn't even seem to care that you weren't an honorary marleyan, or even that you were a lowly blue-collar worker that made a measly sum at her meaningless job on a forgettable street corner.
but alas, the blissfully ignorant fun of the table's atmosphere was dampened by the arrival of the barmaiden with your table's tab, setting it down in front of colt with a coy smile as she gathered up the rest of your empty glasses and disappeared into the back of the tavern.
"aw colt, you never made your move!" pieck chided, giggling as she dug into the pocket of her skirt to reach for her wallet just as everyone else around the table was doing.
"reiner.. are you okay?" you gently nudged his arm, looking over with concern at the sight of him. his elbow was propped on the table, forehead resting in the heel of his palm as he stared down at his lap, mouth drawn into a slight frown.
"shit, he's loaded." porco commented snarkily.
"we can't let magath see him like this!" colt said nervously, looking around at his colleagues, waiting for one of them to come up with a plan to deal with this new issue.
you glanced from colt to reiner, then up at zeke, turning back to everyone as you made an offer. "well.. i have a guest room at my house, he could stay there for the night if it makes things any easier for you all."
"oh, you're an angel!" pieck sighed, reaching across the table and clasping your hands in hers, "and if the commander asks, i could say that he decided to stay with his family!!"
"sharp as always, pieck." zeke chimed from beside you, "though, i don't think it'd be fair to make her watch him all by herself, so i think it'd be best if i help her out with him for the evening, just to be sure he doesn't cause her any trouble."
he met eyes with pieck, and for a moment you thought you saw the briefest flash of realization cross her features, the slightest smirk perking up at her lips before her face relaxed back into its natural smile and she nodded at him. "great idea." she said, tugging at porco and colt's sleeves, "i'll deal with these two, and i'll tell the commander that you had a change of heart as well. reiner, hand me your wallet if you can't count the bills."
"i've got it." he grunted, fumbling with his wallet for a few moments before slamming a fistful of bills down in front of her.
"thank you very much!" she sang happily, getting all the money in order and putting her own small tip for the barmaiden before she slapped colt's arm a few times, prompting him to start scooting out of the booth.
zeke finally retracted his arm to begin leaving the booth, standing out on the floor and offering his hand out to you. you flushed, taking it and allowing him to help you to your feet. everyone got themselves situated, stepping out of the bar and saying their goodbyes, pieck, colt, and porco turning to make their way back to the barracks, zeke slinging reiner's arm over his shoulder and following you along as you gave directions on how to get to your home.
there wasn't many words exchanged between the three of you on your short walk, only having some small talk with zeke between the bouts of comfortable silence hanging around you in the warm night air. you arrived home within minutes, wrestling the key into the old lock and holding open the door for zeke to help reiner in.
"i can walk myself, jaeger." he muttered while kicking his shoes off, earning a low chuckle from the older man.
"then why aren't you doing it right now?"
he didn't get a response as you directed them to your bedroom, hoping to settle him down as soon as you could in the hopes of him being able to get enough rest to sleep off the worst parts of his hangover. while zeke assisted him, you scampered over to the guest bedroom to get it ready for your other, less intoxicated guest. but as you opened the door to the bedroom, you were mortified at the sight of your mess upon looking into the room. in the moment of wanting to do something nice for your friends, you'd completely forget about how you'd basically turned your spare room into more of a storage closet.
looking around to try and think about where to get started, hopefully make it look like you didn't completely neglect this room for the past few months before zeke finished putting his friend to bed, you felt a hand on your shoulder, stiffening in surprise as you slowly turned to look at him.
"i-i'm really sorry, i totally wasn't expecting guests tonight, and i promise i've been meaning to move everything to the basement-"
"don't worry about it, really." he stopped you before you could continue to profusely apologize, offering you another one of those warm smiles that made your knees feel weak, "let me help you, it's the least i could do after you opened your home to a couple of irresponsible soldiers." to your surprise, he brushed past you, picking up one of the many boxes that had accumulated on the bed and floor over the months. "you said you had a basement, right? would you mind showing me where it is exactly?"
unable to find your words, you pointed halfheartedly to the door at the end of the hall, watching him carry one of the few boxes that had left you panting by the time you'd transported them across the house with ease, not even having to set it down to open the door and begin descending the steps. his quick return up the steps finally spurred you into action, hauling another box into your arms and repeating his path of depositing it down in your basement and returning to your room to grab another, making sure to take it slow on your way down the steps from how heavy the alcohol made your limbs feel.
within a few minutes, you both had everything squared away. you let yourself take a seat on the now empty bed, breathing out a sigh of relief and wiping the sweat that had begun to bead around your forehead with the back of your hand, watching as he settled down next to you. "sheesh, you made all that heavy lifting look so easy! and thank you again, for doing such a generous favor for me."
"there's no need to thank me." he replied earnestly, a hand settling on your thigh, making you suppress a small flinch, "you have a lovely home, do you really live all on your own?"
you tried to laugh off the warmth of his hand on your skin through your long skirt. "y-yeah, it's just been me for a while. sometimes friends come over for the night, but for the most part, it's just me."
zeke hummed pensively, grey eyes shining with something dangerous as he gazed down at you. "makes sense that someone such as yourself hasn't found anybody qualified enough to settle down with," he grinned at your flustered expression, openly appreciating the way your eyes widened and you breathed out a soft, indecisive 'thank you', "though, i was so sure that you and reiner had something between you.."
"n-no! it's not like that." the words spilled out of your mouth before you could even think about them, the desire to answer him overriding any clear thought that might cut through your intoxicated embarrassment, "i'm sure s-soldiers such as him and yourself don't really have time to play around with people l-like me."
you mentally slapped yourself for coming to such a conclusion, let alone allowing it to actually exit your brain and be heard by the most esteemed guest you'd probably ever have the honor of hosting.
"oh?" he peered curiously at you, thumb rubbing a slow stroke over your leg, face seeming much closer than it was a few blinks ago, "and what exactly is that supposed to mean?" you knew just how intentional his word choice was, practically setting up a verbal trap for you to fall into, but how could you not take the bait when it was marley's strongest warrior dangling it before you?
"i-i-i'm sorry, s-sir— zeke!"
you scrambled to correct yourself, looking any place except his face and wanting to do nothing more than hide away somewhere where neither him nor reiner could find you to sober yourself up before you could humiliate yourself any further. but you felt the desperation that was now gripping your pounding heart start to squeeze like a vice around it when a rough hand found your chin, gently turning your head to face him again.
"again with the apologies.. what am i going to do with you?"
your bottom lip quivered, more frantic sorries threatening to spill out, but stopped by the lack of air that you were able to take in from his proximity. you hadn't even realized you were holding your breath until you felt a tight ache seize your chest, exhaling an alarmed breath as you stared up into the glinting grey irises studying your face, mirroring their actions at the tavern but containing all of the hunger he'd been hiding in front of his comrades. the hand of your thigh slid up your leg just an inch, zeke breathing out a chuckle at the feeling of you tensing under his touch.
"if you must know," his face was so close that you could even see the pale freckles dotting across his sharp cheekbones and the bridge of his nose, the shadowed contour of his face looking even deeper in the dim light of the guest room, parted lips exhaling a warm breath that fanned across your face, the scent of alcohol still evident as he slowly spoke, "a soldier such as myself can make plenty of time to play around with someone like you."
you couldn't barely contain your awe, drawing in another shaky, shallow breath at the feeling of his lips brushing across your own, just daring you to indulge in his offer. you could barely form a cohesive thought before your brain forced a new topic into your conscious, confusion and shock and abrupt desire drowning out all the rationality that you were so desperately grasping for in this moment.
you'd just met this man tonight, it didn't matter that you'd known of his grand legacy even from when you were a young girl or felt like you'd gotten to know him quite a bit in that short amount of time, you'd only shaken his hand and drank with him and sat face-to-face with him for the first time just a few hours ago. not to mention how the person you were truly familiar with, the one who wasn't nearly a decade your senior, the one you had really been yearning for was just down the hall in your bed, only two shut doors and a few thin walls away from this spectacle. but, zeke was right in front of you, and he was offering out an opportunity that was impossible to refuse—an offer that you really, really didn't want to refuse.
so you didn't. you gave in to the sinful temptation of his warmth, his skin, his soft touches with calloused, work-roughened hands, the knowledge that this kiss was only just the beginning of something unforgettable.
in contrast to his hands, his lips were soft, ridiculously soft as they pressed over yours, the fingers at your chin unfurling to cup the length of your jaw. you leaned into his touch, earning a pleased grunt from him when your trembling hand found his hair, slowly carding through it as you focused on maintaining the easy rhythm of his kiss. you stifled a small sound when the hand on your leg smoothed up to your inner thigh, not pressing any further, just gently stroking and giving the occasional squeeze to the pliant flesh through your skirt.
you could feel the light flutter in your chest heavy and knot into something familiar, twisting deep in your stomach as he sucked at your bottom lip, nipping at it before his attention wandered across your cheek, the hand at your jaw tilting your head up to expose more of your neck to his eager mouth. faint kisses gave way to teasing bites and licks, drawing a soft whimper as he sucked with the intent to bruise where your shoulder met your neck. he seemed to appreciate the way your grasp in his hair tightened, the hand on your thigh traveling across your waist to find the knotted string holding up your skirt.
the progression of his actions felt natural, but almost too fast at the same time, your hand giving an apprehensive tug to his hair when you felt the waistline of your skirt go slack with the undoing of its lacing. he groaned lowly at the sensation, spurring you to do it again when his teeth grazed over the forming redness just right. you could feel the haze of arousal fogged your mind already, all rationale dissipating under the influence of the alcohol and the hands that were now roaming your body, searching for a moment for the top button of your shirt before they began to messily undo those as well. each brush of his fingers across your bare skin sent goosebumps across the expanse of your chest, making quick work of your blouse as he pushed it over your shoulders, guiding your arms out of the sleeves before tossing it aside in favor of working on the clasp of your bra, never pulling away from his place at your neck for more than a moment before returning the bruising attention of his mouth back over the flushed skin.
you breathed out a weak whimper at the feeling of his thumb and forefinger taking one of your nipples between them, bra forgotten somewhere on the floor with your shirt, baring the entirety of your naked torso to him. he could feel how you squirmed when another hand smoothed down your stomach, slipping beneath your skirt's waistline and settling just between your legs, only a sheer barrier provided by your thin underwear, the arousal threatening to soak through the fabric leaving it clinging to every fold. he hummed appreciatively at the welcome surprise, drawing more stifled sounds out of you when his fingers slowly stroked over your clothed cunt.
"all this just for me?" he murmured lowly in your ear, thumb pressing down on your clit, rubbing slow circles over the sensitive nub.
his touch was electrifying, almost overwhelmingly good as you arched into it, the hand at your breast now groping at the supple flesh, palm offering a much-needed friction over your nipple. you finally registered his teasing question, barely managing a disoriented 'mhm' and a small nod, unable to think of anything else besides your heartbeat pounding loud enough that you though he might be able to hear, and the fingers prodded at you and teasing your body as they pleased.
your half-lidded gaze drifted to the door, blinking away the fogginess when you realized it wasn't actually properly shut. you opened your mouth to try and murmur out your observation, but the words in your head spilled out as an incoherent moan, feeling his mouth detach from your bruised neck before he urged you down onto the mattress. but the sight of him standing above you, tugging off his shirt and revealing the impressively toned physique of his stomach and chest, made you forget the ajar door behind him entirely. your hands moved without a second thought, pushing your skirt and underwear down your legs as far as you could, kicking them the rest of the way off as he began to unbuckle his belt.
you couldn't help the way your eyes widened when he shoved down his pants and underwear in one go, unable to choose between focusing your gaze on the smug smirk drawing across his lips or his achingly hard cock, already looking like more than you could handle even at a distance. he plucked his glasses off his face, setting them on the bedside table before he moved over you in bed, your hands tugging him down into a kiss and earning a low chuckle against your lips.
"eager little thing, aren't you?" he only pulled away for a moment to speak, knuckles dragging down the swell of your breast and curving down your waist. your legs spread in anticipation, back arching off the bed when his fingers finally trailed down between your thighs to smooth a finger down your pussy. "and so, so wet."
you squeaked at the intrusion of two thick fingers pumping into you, sliding in easily with a soft, wet sound. the rhythm of your lips faltered, whimpering as his tongue slid between your teeth, tangling with yours, mouth greedily swallowing every desperate sound you made for him. you were grateful for how he was muffling you, just barely remembering that there was another presence in your house besides you and zeke that you had to worry about, heat sparking up your spine at the feeling of his fingers curling just right inside you.
the thought of reiner finding you in here with the captain of his squad, so pathetically obedient and practically dripping from just his fingers, was horrifying and unnervingly thrilling all at once. would he be angry with you? why would he be? what did he even consider you as?
you couldn't dwell on that thought for too long, hips bucking and toes curling when his thumb rubbed firm circles over your clit, wordlessly begging for more. he seemed to be just as impatient as you were in the face of your desperation, pulling away from your lips and removing his touch from between your legs, rolling himself onto his back and tugging you on top of him in one swift motion. you flush even deeper as you watched him drink in the sight of your naked figure, large hands finding your hips, pupils blown wide enough to nearly swallow up the silvery grey of his irises as he eased you down so his cock was just at your aching cunt, offering a sliver of mercy by allowing you to seat yourself onto him as fast or slow as you'd like.
just the first few inches had you whimpering, hands settling on his chest to steady yourself, teeth worrying the skin of your bottom lip, trying to contain the borderline humiliating sounds that were making him grin so smugly up at you. you could feel tears pricking your eyes by the time you finally sank all the way down, deep, shaky breaths giving away your lack of composure even more so than the way the thighs on either side of him tremble, or the nails now digging into the toned muscles of his shoulders. he gave you just a moment of respite, letting you get used to the feeling of something so big before his grip on your hips fastened, fingers sinking into the soft flesh as he began to guide you up and down on his cock.
the low groan your motion earned from him was enough to make your already pounding heart race even faster, heat echoing through you in a way that made it impossible to silence the heated whines that were spilling out of you. the bed squeaked in protest beneath you, but you could care less as you quickened the pace he'd started you at all on your own, admiring the flush that had darkened over his handsome features and the parted lips breathing out low curses and appraising groans.
his eyes fell shut, head falling back before he forced it back up, gaze wandering across your face, then your body, then flitting elsewhere for the briefest moment before they returned to you, hips now thrusting up with even more vigor to meet your own. you moaned openly, struggling out a meaningless string of pleas, the ache beginning to burn in your legs drowned out when he reached out to rub tight, fast circles around your clit. he was grinning now, licking his lips before he spoke in a knowing slur, "you're gonna cum soon, aren't you?"
"yes, f-fuck yes..!" it took you a moment to find your words, embarrassed by how fast he'd managed to work you up to this point but unable to be dishonest in your current position.
his motions didn't falter in the slightest, only seeming to grow more and more urgent as you quivered and whined, bouncing yourself up and down on his cock like it was the last time you'll ever get the chance to do it. and while that's likely the case, you don't care to think about it, too wrapped up in the way you could feel that pressure that had been welling in your stomach finally reach a breaking point, stammered curses devolving into breathless cries as you came hard around him.
you could feel the movement of his hips slow significantly, still rocking up into you to let you ride out your high but not nearly enough for him to push himself over the edge along with you. but you're grateful for his mercy, knowing that if he'd continued at the pace he was going you probably wouldn't be able to walk the next morning. so you took it as a testament to his goodwill, falling forward onto his chest in a whimpering heap, trying to steady your breathing and calm your heart rate, remaining seated on his still hard cock.
you felt a strong arm wrap around your waist, the other resting across your shoulder so he could settle his hand on the back of your head, fingers working their way into your hair and gently carding through it. the attention was comforting, unexpected but definitely comforting as you pressed your face into the crook of his neck, still too hazy off of your post-orgasm bliss to have any shame about wanting to be close to his warmth. you didn't think about whether he was expecting you to get him off at some point, or if he was just content letting you rest on top of him like this, but you soon found that he had a much different answer—or rather, a question—that didn't at all take you into consideration.
"so, reiner, are you just going to stand there and watch all night?"
there was confusion for a brief moment, then a horrifying realization that made an ice-cold fear prick under your spine, blood draining from your face as you felt the fine hairs on the back of your neck raise, completely frozen at the knowledge that the worst of the night you had imagined had come true. zeke's hand didn't stop its slow petting across your head, arm fastening around your body, seemingly in preparation for you to start squirming or fighting to get away. but you couldn't move an inch, not even enough to turn your head and risk a glance at your friend who was apparently right at the door.
"well?" his voice rumbled low in his chest once more, dripping with arrogance, entirely absent of any shame, just tempting him to step past the unseen boundary that had kept him there for however long he'd been watching, "i know, i know, you haven't your fair share all night. it's just so, sohard to let go once you finally get your hands on her. you should know all about that feeling, right?"
"fuck you."
you felt a warm curl in your stomach at the sound of his voice, breathing short and fast as your heart skipped anxiously, but mentally almost enjoying the fact that he was feeling something for you, even if it was some sort of possessive envy. the sound of his heavy, uneven footsteps making their way towards the bed.
he clearly still sounded drunk—who wouldn't be after so many beers in one sitting—and that was probably why he didn't hesitate at all to start tugging his clothes off, the ruffle of fabric and clinking metal of a belt being unbuckled finally snapping out of your compliant state, shaky arms trying to push yourself in bed. zeke allowed you to sit up, hands dropping to your thighs as your foggy gaze wandered from his face over to reiner at the bedside, heartbeat nearly drowning out the other sounds in the room as it drummed loudly in your ears.
"you don't mind, do you?" zeke called your attention back to him, gently stroking up and down your thigh just as he had been when you'd first accepted his offer.
your mouth had gone dry, leaving you struggling to get enough saliva back for your tongue not to stick to the roof of your mouth, feeling the heat of arousal flickering back to life when his cock twitched inside of you. did you mind? well you definitely minded the humiliation, the anxiety taut within your chest that made each breath an effort, the fact that you had no idea what was going on or would happen next. but did you mind enough to force yourself off of him, to struggle to collect your clothes from the ground and stagger out of the room with shaky legs that you weren't sure were capable of doing even that right now? did you really want this?
but it seemed that the choice had already been made in both of their minds, your answer—or lack thereof— speaking for your choice in the matter as zeke's hands lifted you up off of his lap, enough for him to slip out from under you. the sudden emptiness after being so full made you whimper, falling back down onto your calves in the middle of the bed and staring down at zeke's cock, slick with your arousal and still aching to be tended to.
the sinking weight of reiner clambering onto the bed behind you made you exhale a shaky breath, still in disbelief as his hand settled on your cheek, turning your head to face over his shoulder to press his lips onto yours. his kiss was messy but familiar, his low moan making you shiver alongside the feeling of zeke's stare wandering across the display before him. your exchange didn't last long before he pulled away, gazing at you with an unreadable look in his golden eyes for a moment, hand moving to the back of your head to push you down onto your hands and knees.
you obediently complied, met with the sight of zeke's cock once more, peering up to meet his gaze, features showing a mixture of eager expectancy and relaxed pride, just knowing that you were willing to do whatever he asked of you. and he relished in the changes your expressions went through in the next few seconds, the way your eyes widened when reiner's hands grasped your soft hips, how you swallowed thickly to try and get enough saliva down your tongue to get your mouth ready, and finally your mouth falling open and face twisting when reiner eased himself entirely into you in one solid thrust, finding little resistance from how soaked you were. you whimpered out a shaky curse, fists bunching up the sheets under you as he picked up a steady rhythm from behind you, zeke's fingers tangling into your hair and guiding onto your parted lips onto his awaiting cock.
he groaned out at the wet heat of your mouth engulfing him, tongue laving up over the underside of his length as you did your best to take as much of him in as possible without gagging. you wanted to be ashamed of how much you were enjoying the feeling of being entirely overwhelming, fuller than you'd ever felt in your entire life, but you'd be lying to yourself if you said that you'd made a mistake by giving in to the lustful temptations. you could feel your eyes water as zeke hit the back of your throat, your teary gaze and muffled moans against him only seeming to enthrall him further. reiner's hands felt up your waist, one reaching down your front to pinch and roll a nipple between his fingers, driving more stifled sounds and shaky breaths through your nose out of you.
you felt yourself squeezing around his cock, earning yourself a few low, muttered curses as he began to pound even faster into you, evidently approaching his limit just as fast as you are. the hand in your hair was guiding you up and down on the cock in your mouth, the tip of your nose just brushing zeke's stomach each time you surged forward with the momentum of the thrusts from behind you. it was all far too much in the best way possible, vision going hazy at the edges from the lack of proper air you could get into your lungs, insides aching from overusing alongside the tight knotting deep in your gut that was threatening to send you over the edge.
it was zeke that came first, heat pooling over your tongue and spilling down your throat, nearly too much for you to swallow as you tried not to choke. but he kept himself in your mouth and his hand firmly grasping your hair, if not to feel the hum of your desperate whines across your skin then to admire your pathetic expression, half-lidded eyes barely able to hold themselves open enough to stare back at him as you came hard for the second time that night. you could hear reiner give a generous groan of your name, thrusting as deep as he could go just a few times more, having enough sense to not cum inside you, pulling out and making a sticky mess of your trembling thighs.
only after you'd blinked away the glossiness in your eyes did zeke pull himself out of your mouth with a wet pop, holding your head up to appreciate the way your mouth still hung open to gasp in much needed gulps of air, tears and saliva dripping down your chin, halfhearted whimpers still escaping you as you trembled.
"you have good taste, reiner." zeke said, releasing your hair and letting you rest your cheek down against the mattress under you, grabbing his glasses off the side table and putting them back onto his face.
you watched as he stepped off the bed, picking out his clothes from the messy array of garments strewn about on the floor and tugging them on. he fished a handkerchief out of the the pocket of his pants, tossing it at reiner's side and glancing over your body, offering you a lazy smile when he caught your gaze.
"clean her up," he instructed, reaching out to give one last soft touch down your back, "and don't give her anymore trouble, alright? i expect to see you bright and early tomorrow."
you assumed that reiner nodded, since zeke turned without another word and exited the bedroom, making sure to shut the door behind him. for a moment, there was uneasy silence, only occupied by your breaths and the faint sound of zeke pulling on his boots somewhere in the living room and leaving out the front door. you gave a low hiss at the feeling of the fabric smoothing down the backs of your thighs, skin far too sensitive for your liking and legs aching uncomfortably.
you lifted your head up enough to wipe your chin with the back of your hand, eyes and limbs heavy with the desire to sleep. there were no words exchanged as he helped you move to lay down on your back, his face just as tired as he'd looked at the bar, but there was something else weighing down his expression as you took his face in your hands, staring up at him with a soft look of concern.
and though he still said nothing, he kissed you, so much gentler than he'd ever kissed you, with a tenderness that made you want savor this brief moment for as long as you could. but he eventually pulled away, and the brief worry that he might leave just as his captain had minutes before, but he rested down beside you with a low sigh. he didn't protest when you curled into the warmth of his body, head finding a comfortable place on his chest, not even bothering to try and venture out onto the floor to turn off the lamp before you settled down and let your eyes fall shut.
it was easy to fall asleep after he wrapped his arms around you, firm chest rising and falling with steady breaths, heart slow in your ear. you didn't think about the fact that you'd probably wake up alone in the morning, or that walking properly would be a monumental task on its own without even considering going to work to stay on your feet for the entire day—just appreciated this night while he couldn't slip away from you like all the other times before.

Chapter 3
Chapter 4
"There is also a letter for you, sir."
Levi snatched it out of the messenger's fingers, thanking him by a quick, curt nod.
"You may go," he said, waiting for the soldier to leave, so he could read the letter in silence.
Just as he opened it, however, Zeke's face appeared right in front of him, materializing out of thin air.
"Got a love letter, Captain?" he mocked, his eyes glinting. "Or were you popular only once in your life?"
There was a fire right behind Zeke. Levi longed to throw him there. He almost smiled, as he imagined the beast running around with his pants on fire. Watching it would be much more satisfying than simply punching him in a face. Although.... if the beast lost his pants, Levi would be forced to become an unwilling spectator to Zeke walking around half naked. And Levi would rather slit his own throat with a sword.
"Mind your own business, beast," he grumbled, having his fill of arguing with Zeke. The bastard just wanted to get rise out of him anyway. One time Levi had let him. He wouldn't allow Zeke to have another victory. "And get lost. If you won't let me read the letter in peace, I won't let you read at all."
Levi pointedly looked at the book in Zeke's hands. The beast took a staggering step back, cradling the book protectively to his chest.
"Now I see why you weren't popular," he arrogantly scoffed, but left hurriedly before Levi could act on his threat.
When Zeke was a safe distance away, Levi sat down by the fire and opened the letter. The handwriting consisted of small, carefully curved letters. Armin's handwriting.
Levi hesitated to open it. He hoped it wasn't anything urgent. He hoped it wasn't bad news.
But if the things remained just as they were when he left, it could very well be both.
Oh how he hated being away. When he was in a thick of it, at least, he had the illusion of having control.
And right now, the only thing he could control was Zeke. As long as the beast’s and their goals aligned and the beast let Levi control him. And who knew when that was going to change.
It was going to change, Levi was sure of it.
Worry about that later, when the time comes, he told himself, as he shook his head, pushing anxious thoughts to the back of his mind, and finally opened the letter.
Sitting a little closer to fire, he started reading.
Captain Levi!
I hope the messenger brought you everything you needed. If supplies are running low, please tell me so.
I'm sure you want to know what's going on our side. Do not fret, we're holding on. For now. The tensions are still running high, but Commander Pixis is doing a great job of keeping everything under control. Commander Dawk helps plenty too, and together they're working closely with Chief Zacklay to ensure the island's safety.
Yesterday, I wrote a letter to Historia, requesting her to come back. I know she has to care for herself and her future child, but I think... maybe, we can use people's love for the Queen to put an end to their protests. There are more and more people gathering next to our headquarters. I think it’s time for her intervention.
Another matter you should know about is the fate of these Marleyans kids, Gabi Braun and Falco Grace. Unfortunately, they escaped from the prison, but rest assured we're going everything we can to locate them.
Truth be told, I worry about them. It's dangerous for them to walk around the island, while we're in the middle of that mess. Many people don't like Marleyans, so I hope these kids are at least smart enough to not start any trouble. Hange-san told me the very same thing - she worries for Falco and Gabi, but doesn't think they'll do something stupid.
And before you can ask, yes, I've interrogated Hange-san about their escape, she knows nothing. What's more, Jean, Sasha and Connie were with her in the presumptive time of the escape. If you don’t trust her, at least have faith in them.
Well, as I said, we're working on bringing them back.
Oh, and, by the way, Captain, we let Hange-san stay in her old room, just like I told you we would. She praised whoever cleaned it. Don't worry, though, I kept your secret. Hange-san is too smart to be fooled so easily, but, alas, I did my best.
If you need anything, send a letter immediately. Stay alert and keep your wits about you, Captain.
The others are eagerly waiting for your return. Connie and Sasha are doing their best at keeping the headquarters clean. And Mikasa is doing a great job of taking over your duties and training the recruits. Oh, and Moblit-san sends his regards.
I hope you’re holding on. I’m sure you are.
Best wishes, Armin
With a letter still in his hand, Levi stared at the fire, thinking it all over.
Bringing Historia back could help ease the tensions, or… It could make it all even worse. But the Queen’s influence was undeniable, in that regard, Armin was right. She was probably the only one who could get them out of this mess.
And these damned Marleyan brats… Escaping from the prison was not an easy feat. Marleyans had taught them well, it seemed.
Was Hange involved in their trainings as well?
Whether she was or she was not, Levi didn’t believe she had helped them to escape. What for? If someone finds out where they came from, they’d be killed on sight. Hange would never do something so careless. If she truly cared about these kids, and it seemed like she actually did, she’d bargain with Armin and others, ask them to let the kids stay with her.
In her room. That he had cleaned.
He briefly wondered what Hange reaction had been like. Was she surprised? Confused? Touched?
She was most probably enraged, Levi concluded. Pissed off that all of her things weren’t on their places – Levi made sure they weren’t. Maybe, he was too much of a pitiful idiot to throw her shit out, but he knew the other way to get to Hange.
He used to know so many things about Hange.
There had been a time he thought he knew everything. Now he knew better.
***
"Another letter?"
As soon as the messenger left, Zeke was right beside him, his head raised high, as he attempted to take a peak over Levi's shoulder.
Levi swatted him away, too confused by the letter and the large enough package he had received to answer Zeke with the violence he so rightfully deserved.
"Get lost," he just said, blindly reaching behind him to push Zeke away.
"I don't care what you have there," the beast scoffed, lifting his haughty nose even higher. "I just came to ask if there are any letters for me."
Levi looked up at him in surprise, his lips curling up. Letters for Zeke? The notion was so ridiculous he almost started to laugh.
"Do you seriously think there is someone who would write letters to you? Your dear brother is in prison and he isn't allowed to talk even to his friends, and you expect a letter from him?"
In the face of Levi's open mockery, Zeke's eyes darkened. "Eren is not the only who can write to me. From what I've heard, she's not in prison anymore."
Oh, so he was using that card again? Levi wasn't going to succumb to it. He wasn't. Not again.
Still, his fingers gripped the letter more tightly, as he threw a sizzling gaze at the beast.
But. At least, he didn't hit him. Clearly, a progress.
"She is not allowed to write letters either," he revealed. "And letting Hange reside in her old room wasn't my decision."
"Clearly," Zeke nodded, his lips moving upwards. "If it was up to you, she'd be sleeping in your room, isn’t that right, Captain?"
The letter in his hand crumpled as Levi attempted to take a breath and keep himself from latching on the bastard.
But clearly, Zeke wasn’t finished. Clearly, he wanted more of Levi’s rage.
“And, just so you know,” he lowered his voice, as though he was going to tell him a secret. He crouched down to his level too, his hand next to his ear. Levi was too dazed to push him away. “When Hange cares about someone, she always finds a way.”
“Then where is your letter, Zeke?”
There was a beat of silence, the beast’s mouth falling open as he struggled to find his own words. Fucking finally, he managed to get him back.
Reveling in his small victory, Levi pushed past Zeke, heading to his tent.
There, he lighted the candle and put the package down onto a wooden table, sitting down beside it. Deciding to start with the letter, he opened it in a quick, fluid motion. His chest warmed, as he recognized Moblit’s neat, delicate handwriting. He didn’t even notice it, his thoughts too scattered amidst all this mess, but he missed his friend. More than he thought he would.
Captain!
How are you doing? Hope you’re not picking too many fights with our shifter-ally. Remember, we need him alive - at least, until we feed him to someone else. Although, I’m sure you’re keeping it together. You know just how important this is.
As on our end, things are not going all too well. Truthfully, I don’t know how bad it actually is, I have been out of loop lately, but I trust Commanders Pixis and Dawk and our Armin to get us through this.
There are rumors of the Queen getting back, or so Sasha told me. In my opinion, it’s dangerous to let Historia into the city, but, maybe, it really can help ease the tensions. Maybe, if she advises everyone to calm down, protesters will stop shouting under my window. It’s a good thing you aren’t here, Captain, these protesters – Yeagerists, as they started to call themselves, - are absolutely horrible. They’re loud and rowdy, and, honestly, their demands are making me a bit worried.
Maybe, they’re so bold because you aren’t here. I’m sure one deadly look from you and they’d scatter.
I also miss our evening tea parties, you wouldn’t believe it, I know – but I really do, terribly so. I went to the Niccolo’s place recently, tried a new pastry there, you will absolutely love it. I wanted to send it to you, but I was afraid it won’t be as delicious after a long road.
Now, I think it’s time to get to the thing that interests you the most – the package I sent you. I hope you haven’t opened it yet, so let me explain what it is first. I’ve included a few of my sketches in the second part of the letter, so you can get the overall idea of what it is.
In your absence, I’ve started to visit Sq Hange-san more often (I know what you’d say – we can’t trust her and should be more careful around here, but… we’ve been through much together, even if some part of it was a lie. It’s stronger than me. I’m sure you can understand) and we started working together on something new.
I’m not going to lie, working with her after all these years is still exciting to me. She’s just as brilliant as I remember, perhaps even more so, now that she doesn’t have to hide the whole extent of her knowledge.
She critiqued our performance during the Reid on Liberio. I was offended at first, surely, it wasn’t such a disaster. What we did was disastrous, I can’t and won’t deny it, but how we did it? It really was rather a success? Minimal amount of casualties on our side and another shifter, taken away from Marley…
But Hange-san wasn’t nearly as impressed. She said that we could do so much better, if only we improved our equipment.
Of course, I couldn’t refuse her offer to work together again. So, without further ado, here I present to you, Captain – the new uniform of Survey Corps’ soldier. We used some parts of our old uniform and uniforms of Anti-Personnel Control Squad, so now aiming and recharging the gun is a lot easier and carrying thunder spears is more comfortable too.
We haven’t done enough tests on this one yet, and, as of now, we only have a few models (yours is actually the first one we made), but I do think the modified version should be implemented among our ranks.
I’m eager to hear what you think about it, and I’m even more eager to have you back with us.
I’m not the only one who waits for you to come back. One person in particular is interested in your well-being. She doesn’t actually ask, but she always listens carefully. Turns out, reading Hange-san is as easy as it’s always been.
Waiting to hear from you,
Moblit.
Whenever he was expecting to read in Moblit’s letter, that wasn’t it. He half-expected that the package would contain a new type of tea or a warmer blanket. What he did not expect was a new uniform.
That Moblit created with Hange.
He looked at the pages, attached to the letter. Detailed, realistic looking sketches were undoubtedly made by Moblit’s skilled hand. But the crooked, hurried notes could only be written by her.
Staring at these sketches brought back unwanted memories. Nights, spent in the dimly-lit lab, brown eyes that sparkled with enthusiasm and excitement, burning brighter than the candle beside them, the deep, melodic voice enchanting him with one theory after another.
How calm, how content he had felt during these fleeting moments, during these nights he spent next to Hange.
And now the only emotions these memories brought back were pain and shame. She lied, she betrayed, and yet he still couldn’t let these moments go, still held them inside his heart, in the depth of his soul where no one would see them but him.
She lied, she betrayed, and all these moments were fake, but they still were. They happened, and when they did, they brought him an evanescent happiness.
And he was pathetic enough to still treasure them.
With a deep sigh, Levi put the letter down, reaching over for the package.
He took the wrappings off slowly and carefully, despite his eagerness to know what was inside. He didn’t know who made them, who sew the fabric together. It could very well be Moblit, the man was talented in various areas. It could very well be Hange. Despite her messy appearances, she was good with needle and thread, he had learnt it first-hand, when he got injured during expedition and Hange had sewed the skin of his arm quickly and neatly, her touch surprisingly careful and gentle.
When he was done with the wrapping, he took out what was inside. Black pants, black shirt, it looked so different from the old uniform.
He put it on, meticulously checking that every belt and fasting was in its place, zipped and secured. Finished, he stood before the mirror, turning this and that way.
It wasn’t ugly, Levi was sure it was very efficient and he would test it all by himself, when his squad would go to sleep, but he liked the old one better. He felt more comfortable in it, more like himself. More like a Captain of Survey Corps who fought against bloodthirsty titans. But the weapons this uniform was modified for wasn’t made for defeating titans. It was made for defeating humans.
And he still struggled with accepting that new, simple truth.
He couldn’t deny, though, Moblit was right.
Hange was just as brilliant as they all had remembered.
It made him think – albeit, fleetingly – how far would they go, if they had her with them? How far would she have taken them if she was always on their side?
How happy he would be, if she still had been with him?
Pointless brooding, he decided and started to peel off the uniform.
Its efficiency in fighting other humans was doubtless. That’s why Levi hoped he would never have to use it.
***
“Um, Captain, wait a moment, please…” the messenger frowned, scratching his head in confusion, as he stared at the letter in his hands. “It’s not signed, but maybe I’ve lost something…”
His put his arm inside the back pack, rummaging through it. Levi waited for a second, two, ten, twenty… The messenger was still at it. His patience running low, Levi grabbed the unsigned letter. If it was some soldier’s love letter, he’d get it back. But if that was something important…
He opened the letter.
And had his breath caught in his throat, because that— that crooked, hurried handwriting… He could recognize it anywhere.
“I’ll be in my tent,” he announced, his voice shakier than he was comfortable with.
He all but tumbled inside, leaning against the table to keep himself steady. His eyes ran over the letter, taking it all in.
The message was short, fairly simple. But it raised so many questions, filled him with emotions so raw he could choke on them.
Levi,
Something bad is going to happen. Don’t take your eyes off Zeke. Don’t underestimate him.
Be careful. And, please, come back home safely.
It took him but a moment to read it all. But the few words of the letter kept replaying in his mind over and over, making it impossible to fall asleep. Levi mulled it over again and again, trying to find some sense, trying to understand.
He got his first clue the very next day, when the messenger was back again, sweaty and panting.
Chief Zacklay is dead, he said, murdered inside his own office.
And the look Zeke had given him, the long, intent gaze that didn’t waver as Levi had followed after his soldiers to get more details.
That was his second clue.

AHHHHHH THANK YOU AGAIN TO @ghost-party for listening to me babble for hours on end and letting me join your collab not to mention beta reading!!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH TREASURE OF MY HEART 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
A/N : Update because i realized i have zero context for this. 😅
Modern! Single dad! Reiner with GN reader. Theme is meet-cute. 4.8k mentions of death, war, and injury. More along the lines of fluff with slight smut so minors DNI. ENJOY 😊
The young woman ran from Eldia, from a home torn apart with war. One arm caged her son Reiner against her chest, the other hand held fast to the child of her sister, the rest of their family dead. Still in the throes of grief that threatened to tear apart her soul, her only thought was to save the children in her arms. A prayer that they soon would find themselves someplace safe and far away from this nightmare dragged into daylight was whispered unceasingly on chapped lips.
Years later, at 24, Reiner Braun has worn each stage of life like too-tight skin. Skin split down his back as he tried to find freedom with each forward step. Each new layer would crack across the knuckles, dripping blood-soaked memories. More cracks formed down his chest, broken and straining against the strong beat of his heart. He had run from childhood into the military without a second to breathe let alone think. A military that sent him to that first forgotten home to kill his own people that everyone was raised to see as monsters. Yet on the return, he could only see them as a single entity being lead to slaughter. The sight of his mother's tears when he had left burned in his dreams before turning into the screams of comrades who hadn't come home. With that, he now carries himself like a broken weapon, only good for being melted down and used for scrap.
Upon an old motorcycle, Reiner settled down in the traffic, kickstand on the road. They hadn't moved in a while, and from what little he could see, they wouldn't be for a while. As if the sky above had conspired against his desire to have a peaceful night with half-forgotten family before returning to the apartment — to the death that waited. A clean, loaded rifle, with the barrel ready for him to swallow so he could greet the stars above. Would they be welcoming in their cold light? Most of them were long dead after images, just as he was only the mirage of whatever broken mold there had been before. Still, he would say his goodbyes while they welcomed his brother's baby girl into this broken world.
Tumblr media
Slowly, traffic moved forward after an age of stillness. A silent prayer of thanks to whatever power kept the world spinning escaped Reiner's lips. The thanks turned into that sharp inhale of one who is trying to stay calm when faced with carnage. His eyes widened at the sight of the crash, one car so mangled as to be unrecognizable, trapped under a jack-knifed semi-truck. Blood dripped down a mangled hand, a ring glinting in a shaft of sunlight. Reiner wasn't sure if he felt envy or pity for the poor bastard. He crawled past and on towards the hospital where his family waited.
"Mr. Braun?" Reiner stood and turned towards the voice, faltering for a moment when he saw a policeman standing with a doctor. Their expressions were agonized, bodies as stiff as corpses on a sting.
"Yes?"
"I'm Doctor Cooper and this is Officer Forger. I'm afraid we have terrible news."
Reiner had known something was wrong when the nurse at the desk had, with the face of a ghost, told him to sit when he gave his name. How she had whispered into her phone, "He's here," when his back was turned. He sat stone-still, mind spinning. What could it be? What could be so bad that not one of the family could greet him? His heart thumped against cracked ribs, the scabbed-over, broken skin now oozing fresh blood at the strength of it. Fear filled his blood, choking the air.
"There was an accident. Your mother and brother were involved in a car crash and died. Your sister-in-law, upon hearing the news, became frantic, and in the attempt to restrain her, stitches from the caesarian tore open. We tried to save her but sadly were unable to do so."
Reiner felt the world stop, a shuddering breath turning to poison in his lungs. The car under the semi… Had that been them?
"What about..." His voice faltered before the soldier in him took over. "What about the baby? Gabi?"
"She’s fine. Healthy baby girl. There will be paperwork and other legalities to take care of, but it looks like you’re the only family she has left."
At nearly 30, this latest skin Reiner wears hardly fits him any better than others in the past. It still bleeds at the knuckles, staining his hands crimson. The baby turned toddler and now child, calling him Dad, not Uncle, even as Reiner tried to convince her otherwise. Gabi is as headstrong as both he and his brother combined. She has learned from her friends that he fits the definition of a dad, and so he is Dad. As such, he has taken this new name like a vow to be the best he could be. The rifle was long ago sold, his old uniform and medals placed in a locked box at the back of his closet, left to rot. The apartment that would have welcomed his death has now been left behind. With his daughter, they have made a faraway condo their home.
"Dad! It's time for the park!" Gabi calls, her little feet dancing loudly at the back door.
"I hear you, I hear you. One second," Reiner calls back from the kitchen, filling a water bottle before adding it to a backpack, along with some snacks.
Gabi continues to stamp her feet and huff as he puts on his jacket and shoes. Then they are out the back door, to the gate that leads from their backyard into the park. Gabi is already running top speed to the playground. Reiner just lengthens his strides to keep up, not even trying to get her to slow down. It’s as futile as trying to stop a rocket with bare hands.
At the park on the benches, three moms sit like The Fates squabbling over their single eye. He takes his place on another bench, close enough to hear them but only just. His mind is more focused on watching the children than listening to their continual tainted stream of gossip.
"Did you hear? The old condo sold, and apparently it’s the sister of that shrew," one hisses.
"They’re going to be living next to each other. It’s a family," a second observes. She must have spent the night over Facebook and wine again.
"Oh, look... Here comes the shrew. The kid must be the sister’s," the final woman — the ringleader — observes.
This catches Reiner's attention. He looks up from the kids to see the new arrivals. You are heart-stopping, wearing a black leather jacket and light pink shirt, snug jeans, and leather boots. Your hand is intertwined with one belonging to a small child, puffy in their coat and boots, and you silently encourage them forward to the swings. They look back at you before running towards Gabi to introduce themselves. Already her hand is taking the place of yours, and they are off running and tumbling across the playground.
Reiner has heard of you before, sure, the mothers only calling you “the shrew.” The only other single person on this block, they tried to set you two up as soon as they learned he was also single. But he never agreed and neither did you. An action he now regrets as his eyes drift back over you, a warm smile dancing on your lips as you stand before The Fates while they weigh you in the scale of their own image. He knows they already find you both lacking. Their ideal of white picket fences with a spouse and two children, with the only variant being what pet you own, doesn’t match the lines you have drawn around as your framework. And yet you stand, head high, knowing you are your own ideal. It is like looking at a river breaking the bonds others would have forced on it — magnificent, leaving him hungry for any scrape of attention you would throw at him. A shriek of delight recalls his attention to the children, even as he strains to hear the nectar that drips from your lips.
"Yes, my sister bought the condo next to me. Rin is the kid's name. I'm watching them today. Yes, my sister will be wanting to join the Facebook group. No, I still don't have a Facebook and won't be joining." Your voice is clipped against the torrent of questions.
Finally, you get away from them and come sit next to him. He can feel the blush rising to his face.
"God, they’re catty. I almost thought they were going to try and eat my heart." Reiner chuckles at this. "I'm Y/N. And you?"
"Reiner Braun."
"Which one is yours?"
"The one with dark brown hair leading the group. Her name is Gabi."
"Cute. Not even five and already a leader."
"Six, actually."
"So close."
"Not in her eyes."
"No, you’re right. Never in the eyes of the child is ‘close’ good enough when it comes to their age and how they wish to be treated." Reiner lifts an eyebrow. "Rin has to say their exact age down to the day and expects everyone else to do the same. But they also desire to be given the same respect as a child twice their age." You pause, eyes wandering the outlines of him. "Househusband?"
"No, our tale is a bit more tragic. She was my brother's child, but our family is... Our family is gone." His voice is ice numb, with the passage of time scabbing over those wounds. Yet he hears you suck in broken air at the revelation.
"I'm sorry to ask."
"I'm not. She changed my life for the better, even if it came with heartache."
"You don't look like a philosopher, Reiner Braun, but you talk like one."
"Oh, do I?"
"Just a bit." You offer him a small smile and it is a sunbeam through the rain.
The conversation is molasses, honey-sweet and slow, an amber spyglass that sharpens and colors in the lines you both have drawn around yourselves. He learns about what you call a sedentary life of living and working from home, broken up with family events and vacations. But it is a life you love, even in solitude. The way your eyes glow with each spilled word has his heart skipping like the children you both watch in between shy glances made of the spun sugar of new yearning.
You learn about Reiner's struggle with being thrust into his guardianship soon after his return home from war. His struggle to find a job that would allow him to be there for Gabi. The path that eventually led him to be a building inspector. He can feel the words rise from places within him that are both featherlight yet suck at his soul like tar. This time, his glance is rewarded with your eyes locked on his, your lip caught in your teeth.
"I know I should say thank you for your service, but your eyes look so haunted." There is compassion written in your eyes that says more than a thousand speeches about the honor he should feel from being a soldier, about doing his country proud. It's overwhelming, so he looks away, afraid to break at this lightest touch of tenderness.
Far too soon, the sky begins its slow turn to dusk. Far too soon, it is just Gabi and Rin running around. Far too soon, you both are the only ones left, yet there is no move to leave. It is comfortable, sitting together as the children run. As if it is a comfortable silence built by months and years of understanding and not just moments and hours.
"It's getting late, but I don't want to say goodbye." Your voice is whisper soft.
"Then don't. You’re both welcome to come over for dinner." His boldness is a surprise, even as he waits with bated breath for your answer. The words begin to slip from your smiling lips.
A discordant, jarring noise fills the air, making you both jump in fright before turning to nervous laughter. You hold up your phone, wincing as you see the name across the screen — a reminder of something previously forgotten.
"Hey, sis."
"What do you mean, ‘Hey, sis’? Where is Rin? I've been texting you for the past ten minutes and haven't heard anything back. Are you guys okay?" Pulling the phone away from your ear as the person on the other end shouts, Reiner grimaces in sympathy.
"Yeah, sorry, Rin is fine. We’ve been having lots of fun at the park. They made a friend."
The voice on the other end goes soft after your apology, so much so that he can't hear it. Not that he should have been listening to your conversation. He turns to face the children, watching them laugh as they go down a slide, tangled together. The blinding brilliance of childhood friendships made in innocence.
"Sorry, Rin was supposed to be home by now. Raincheck?" You offer a small smile in apology.
"Of course." He recites to you his phone number before turning to the children. "Gabi! Rin! Time!" His voice is loud enough to carry but not a shout, never a yell in anger. The two children pop up like weasels before scrambling over.
Rin holds on to Gabi's hand and won't let go. Gabi, too, has a determined look about her that he has seen for so long yet it still affects him, filling him with pride over how fierce she is.
"No. I want to keep playing with Rin. Can they sleep over?" Her voice is the high-pitched whistle of a fire in the clouds. Until you get down to their level, a serenity about you like the sea.
"I promise, you and Rin can play again really soon. Rin is moving here next month. But I'll try and get Rin down here again before then, okay?"
"Okay," She grumbles, the two dropping their interlocked hands. Rin wrapping their arms about your neck, head tucked against your shoulder.
Cooing to the child, you give Reiner one final smile before leaving.
"I'll text you later, Reiner." How you say his name has him weak-kneed. He wants to hear it again, bottle the sound and use it to fuel this newfound addiction. So lost in his name written in your voice, he stands rock still as you walk away.
"Dad?" Gabi tugs at him, her small hand hardly wrapping around his first couple of fingers.
Shaking off the spell of your voice he turns to her, kneeling himself. "Yeah, sweetie?"
"What's for dinner?"
"How about breakfast?" he asks, grunting softly as he picks her up with one arm, the other grabbing the backpack.
"Can I have waffles with whipped cream?"
"Sure, if you ask nicely."
"Please, Dad!" she squeals in delight.
"I'll get it ready. Why don't you go take a bath and get in your PJs?" Setting her down to open up the back gate, he holds it open for her before locking it once he is through.
"Okay!" Hardly remembering to take off her boots and coat, she is running up the stairs, unable to contain her energy and excitement. Reiner smiles at this blessing he has been given. A tree growing again after a fire, healing from its damage.
Reiner has learned the relaxation his mother taught him was in cooking, in feeding those you love with creations of your hands. He remembers her soft songs in a language he cast off. He hums them now, the words long lost to the decay of time. Soon the smell of waffles and eggs fills the small kitchen. Behind him, on the chair where he left his coat, his phone dings loudly once, twice. Work probably, some contractor asking him for the punch list. So he ignores it in favor of not burning their dinner.
Gabi babbles her thanks in between half-chewed bites of whipped cream mixed with syrup dribbling down her chin. Reiner tries to remind her to chew her food, which she apologizes for as more slips down her face, causing him to sigh. When she is satisfied, he sits her on the kitchen counter with gentle hands and cleans her face. How these hands have changed, but still, a scar across his palm catches at the soft skin. These hands are still marked with cracked skin, knuckles with fresh blood that slides down the back of them. He prays she never sees the ache of the bleeding wounds.
Gabi uses the last bit of her energy, squirming under the wet cloth before collapsing against his chest. In the soft silence of their home, he avoids the one stair that creaks before helping her brush her teeth and braid her hair to sleep. Her eyes have gone glassy, hands grabbing around his neck, soft breath against him. She is a gift he never would have deemed himself worthy to have. Already asleep, he tucks her in bed before kissing her forehead. Satisfied with checking that the window is locked, he turns the combination night light music player on before he leaves.
This new life is made of cotton, a cushion against the harsh turning of the times. Looking at the small mess in the kitchen, Reiner remembers his phone going off and puts off the latter in favor of just checking. Surprised delight works a smile up to his face as he sees a new number flash across his screen.
Rin's home safe. Wouldn't stop talking about Gabi and how much they love her. Had to admit, I thought her father was pretty neat. Is the dinner invitation still available if it’s just me?
Of course! Oh, I just looked at the time. Sorry for the late reply. If you want to come over, you’re welcome, but I don't want to disrupt your evening.
You're fine. I figured you were taking care of Gabi. How is she?
Sleeping like a log after playing with Rin. Thank you for letting me know you both are safe. I have to admit, I think you're pretty neat, too.
I'm glad we agree. I can be there in a couple of minutes. I'm back home now.
I'll have a plate of waffles ready for you.
Reiner sets down the phone before looking to make sure that it's only a messy kitchen he has to worry about. Satisfied that it looks decent, he finds no toys left on the floor like landmines. In the small kitchen, he sets up a plate. There is excitement trembling in his hands at the thought of seeing you again in the near dark. What sides will he see from this new angle?
But there is worry weighing on his shoulders, wondering how will you see him? The darkness is a theater screen that plays out the harshest memories of our past. Will the shadows that line his face be too much? Will you see the cracked skin and turn away, squeamish at the sight of blood? His thoughts are quicksand and cold rain, draining even as his breath speeds up.
He has already been given a new direction and blessing in his life with Gabi. Is there the possibility of the hope that he might be blessed with love? Someone who will hold his hand as he continues to bandage the cracks and seal them together? His chest heaves at the strain of racing thoughts, even as he is still blocking out the world lost in the mire. The crack of a stone on wood startles him.
The soldier he has restrained for years rises within, ready to fight to protect the life that sleeps peacefully above. He is quick to rush outside, only to hear giggling. Confusion twists around his head like a halo, the soldier retreating to the corner of his soul where he forces them to find peace. He finds you smiling, another small rock in your hand which is quickly dropped. With a look of false innocence fighting against an overwhelming smile, he can feel his own smile forming in response.
"I wonder who could be throwing rocks at this hour?" He looks around ready to see how far you will take this act.
"Must be a delinquent punk or a ghost."
"Well then, my chivalry demands I let you in, at the very least, to keep you safe."
Your hand coming up to pat against his chest has his head spinning, the lingering heat blooming and unfurling like vines, pulling his cracked edges back together. He hardly remembers the plate he had fixed for you. He cracks open two sour orange beers that he hopes pair well with the sickly sweet of the whipped cream and syrup. He sips at his can while you eat, your content moan at the food nearly setting him on fire. The dark clouds of his earlier thoughts change to different desires.
Those thoughts stay and linger after you set down your plate, thanking him. They rage when you move closer to him. The purse of your lips as you sip at the beer. How your eyes linger on his face before turning back to the sky. The stars that once looked so cold now point out the lights in the dark. Those lights dance across your skin, and he knows you are another light in the dark, calling to him — a blessing he feels unworthy to touch as you pull his arm around your shoulders, leaning into the warmth of his chest. He keeps his vision trained on you, drinking in your soft light. He pulls you closer, until you’re squished against him.
It’s a picture and a movie he will treasure in his heart, the soft exhale of your breath across his chest causing shockwaves. He thinks about leaning down and kissing the crest of your hair. Tensing to ask if he can, the first drops of rain hit. It’s a deluge in a moment, soaking you both as he lifts you into his arms to carry you to the warm safety of the living room.
"Wait, Reiner!" Your laughing hand against his face pulls his attention to your eyes. "Let's dance — please." Your voice is a whispering beg, and he would fall on his knees to hear that sound again.
Reiner is careful in how he sets you down, steadying hands against your waist. Your own hands wrap over his to guide them. The cold rain is nothing against the heat in his chest as he twirls you in the downpour. If happiness were a sound, it would be your laugh and sigh. The gasp you make when he picks you up and dips you back is a benediction. Your hands travel the path of his shoulder and waist to cup his face, pulling him again to your rainwater-soft lips, warm breath against his before the movement is sealed.
When you pull back to breathe, he catches your lower lip in his teeth, finding he finally can breathe. Your arms loop around his neck as you pull in closer to him. His arms lower to your thighs, pulling you up. He starts walking into the condo. Soon, your back is against the wall, legs wrapped around his waist. His heart is beating hard when he finally pulls back, pressing his forehead against yours and pressing a soft kiss to it.
"If this is too fast, tell me to stop." His voice is shaking with desire.
"But we both need to get out of these wet clothes." You nip at his lip, pulling him back into a kiss that quickly turns deep, his tongue scraping across teeth, the taste of beer and waffles lingering in your mouth.
Laughter bubbles soft in pressed-together chests. Soaked shirts and pants abandoned on the floor. Warm kisses press against cold exposed skin. He moves to your neck, placing kisses there. When you tug on his hair, he growls softly before nipping at the skin and moving back to your lips. Again, he is carrying something precious in his arms as he climbs the stairs. Again, he steps over the one that creaks, walks down the other side of the hall until he is pressing you against his bed.
Heat crackles, electricity flowing like circuits finally connecting at last. Soft thighs rub against his own. Nails scrape down his chest and back until he is keening. The heavy weight between his legs presses against yielding hips. The last of the soaked clothing is stripped away, cast off into the darkness. Moonlight plays across your skin, making him swear you have been sent from the stars to guide him home.
"Dad!"
He pulls away quickly, a groan leaving you both. He places a soft kiss on your stomach before trying to find some sweatpants, calling back that he will be there in a second. Looking back, you are smirking, swaddled in the thick duvet, finger pressed against your lips even as your eyes travel the length of him. Padding out and closing the door behind him, Reiner shakes his head at this sweet, tormenting twist of fate.
"Gabi?"
"Down here!" He turns, going down to the living room.
"What is it, sweetie?"
"I was thirsty, so I was getting some water. I came down and saw the clothes on the floor." He can just make out the confusion across her face.
“Oh, I was outside and got caught in the rain, so I took them off as soon as I came in." His body flushes with embarrassment.
"Okay, but why are there two pants on the floor? Are you having a sleepover?"
"You know, I think it's time you go back to bed. Did you get your water?" His voice is cracking, mind spinning, eyes widening with horror as his breath speeds up.
"You are having a sleepover! Can I come join?"
"Gabi! No!" He is too quick, too loud, fear making him desperate.
"Why not?" She is pouting.
"Because." He pauses. "They’re already asleep and I don't want to wake them up."
"Oh, okay. Wait, why do you get to have a sleepover and I don't?"
"Come on, back to bed with you. I'll explain in the morning." He hopes for once she will be too tired and leave it alone.
"Fine." The sigh of relief cascades through his whole body.
Gabi, with a glass of water in her hand, trudges back up the stairs, little legs making her step on the creaking one. He really should fix it. Reiner grabs the clothes and goes back to his room, caught between shock and hysterical laughter, wondering if you heard all that transpired. He hopes to find you laughing. To press against you again, happiness wrapping around you both. To lose himself in your embrace. Instead, he finds you have pilfered one of his shirts and are curled up in his bed, asleep. Not having the heart to wake you, he goes to hang the clothes up in the attached bathroom’s shower so they can dry. Coming back, he leans down to kiss the space behind your ear, enjoying the mewl you let out from the contact.
"Hey, do you want to bed to yourself?"
"No — cuddles." Your arms are already grabbing for him. "Maybe I'll wake back up so we can continue."
"Don’t worry about that. Let yourself sleep. I'll still be here tomorrow,” he mummers against sleep-warm skin as he tucks you two together, bodies nestled together like puzzle pieces. Already, you are drifting back to sleep, face pressed against his chest, arms and legs tangling with his. A sob claws its way around his chest. Questions of why he was blessed and saved with first Gabi and now your brilliance in his life. How you feel like a permanent fixture, even within only hours.
He can feel sleep tugging at him, but still, his thoughts slip out. "Is it strange that I can already see us as a family?"
"No — not if I say yes." The words press themselves deeper into his skin, until they sink to his heart, a new bandage forming over the cracks.
His breath catches before he pulls you closer, lips pressing kisses into your hair.
That night, when he dreams, he doesn't see a mother's tears. But he remembers. When he came home with some groceries he had gotten for doing some work for a neighbor, and how his mother patted his head and told him he would be an amazing husband and father one day.
Reiner notices the next morning that his skin is healing, scars becoming thick with scales like armor. His role as father fits him far better than before, his hand having found yours.

Fight for Us
Chapter i- the reunion
Tumblr media
summary- it’s been a long time since you’ve last seen reiner, one of your best friends from your childhood. but he’s changed. a lot.
genre- some fluff, angst, comfort/hurt
warnings- mentions of trauma, alcohol, readers feeling getting hurt, death. major spoilers for those who have not watched aot. eventual smut, not in this chapter- this is mainly just background info.
a/n- i told y’all i would be giving you a reiner fanfic for 500 followers, so i delivered and now it’s probably a series lol
Tumblr media
For the past hour, you had been waiting at the train station for the Warriors to arrive once again. You had heard about their recent victory at Fort Slava, which everyone seemed to be giddy about. Another step towards victory.
You hadn’t seen them since you were about fourteen or fifteen, when you used to hang out with them in their free time when they weren’t training. You would all chat about who would be getting each titan and why and what the future would hold for you all.
It was always peaceful except for when Porco and Reiner had their usual clash, a few of which quickly became violent. It would usually end with Reiner having a bloody nose which you would always have to tend to, telling him to tilt his head back as you dabbed a tissue under his nose and on his clothes to wipe off the remaining blood.
Your parents lectured you each and every day about how you shouldn’t be hanging out with Eldian scum like him, that he and the others were spawns of the devil and not to be trusted around their innocent daughter. They scolded you each time you checked on them or decided to bring them bread to eat, and sent you to your room for hanging around them. They claimed it was out of love, but you knew better at this age that it wasn’t out of love- it was out of fear.
But they gave in on the day they were leaving for Paradis, and let you say goodbye one last time. You and Reiner talked for a while about how he will make his parents proud of him and save the world.
———
“So you think you can do it? You can really turn things around?”
“Of course I can!” Reiner chirped. “I’ll be a hero.”
“But you only have thirteen years, Reiner”, you warn him. “Your life is cut short now. I, I just...”
“Just what?” Reiner asks you, hazel eyes looking your way.
“I just... don’t want to lose you that early.”
You felt your cheeks start to warm, and quickly hid your face in your shirt to save yourself from the embarrassment. Reiners gaze was soft now, mouth slightly agape. You could easily see a pale pink form on his light complexion.
“You’re that worried about me?” He questioned, slightly raising his brow.
“Yeah, sure. You’re one of my best friends and I don’t want you dying early like that. It’s not fair to you”, you said, almost muttering those words.
“Y/n...” Reiner said. “I’m not just doing this for my parents. It’s for you too.”
Your eyes stop staring down at the ground and now avert to Reiner, who’s blush was deep now.
You had no clue what to say. It seemed like this comfortable silence was the best option, just sitting there trying to process your emotions.
The sun was starting to set, and Reiner had to leave at sunrise with the others. He slowly got up from the pavement of the sidewalk and brushed off his uniform pants in case any dirt got on them. You got up with him, wanting to spend every moment you possibly could with him before he left.
“I think this is goodbye, y/n. I should get some sleep before I leave in the morning”, he murmured.
“Okay. Guess I should let you sleep then”, you say. “Just...promise me you’ll come back alive. Fight for us, Reiner.”
Reiners expression turned warm, a smile curling on his rosy lips. “I will. I’ll come back, I promise.”
You both knew what was coming next. Reiner put his hands out for you and pulled you in close, your lips landing on his. You put a hand on his cheek, rubbing at his skin as both of your lips clashed against each other. It wasn’t a rough kiss, but not timid either. It was somewhere perfectly in the middle. Something you both were going to need to remind you of each other.
———
Now the time had finally come to meet eyes with him again. This was the last thing you thought about before the train came rolling in, coughing big clouds of black steam as it entered the station. Cheers could be heard from the crowd on the platform as passengers from inside waved to their families, likely for the first time in years.
You jostled through the crowd once the train came to a stop and started to unload its contents. Soldiers ran to embrace their mothers, fathers, siblings and spouses, some reunions making tears fall from their cheeks. This was the most happiness you had seen in a while.
Nearby, a short brunette girl quite literally flung herself out of the train, shouting into the air about how happy she was to be home. A man with slicked back hair had a rosy-cheeked blonde, clearly intoxicated, slung around his shoulder. For a moment you thought it was Reiner, but you thought otherwise when you continued to observe his features.
“Reiner! I’m so glad you’re home!”
You heard what sounded to be an old woman talking in another direction, the mention of his name making your head instantly turn towards where it was coming from. A woman with short blonde-grey hair was hugging a much taller man, with pale skin, hollow cheeks and noticeable dark circles under his eyes.
No fucking way that’s him, you thought to yourself. The solemn expression on his face did not match what you last saw, the old Reiner you used to know. What the hell had happened while he was in Paradis? Did the island devils get to him?
You gulp and decide to go and see for sure if this was really Reiner. Pushing through the dense crowd again, you walk the direction of the familiar voices.
Once you finally get a clearer glimpse of the old woman and who you assumed to be Reiner, you came to the conclusion that this was in fact him- just a tired, potentially malnourished version of him.
“Reiner!” You call. His head spun around, eyes widening when he saw your figure running towards him. You swore you could see a tiny smile form on his face, a contrast to his exhausted features.
You run into his chest, and wrap your arms around his buff figure. But for some reason, you don’t feel his arms hug you back. It felt strange, but you were going to take what you could get.
“Y/n?” Reiner asked, making you tilt your face up to confirm that it was you. “Oh fuck, I missed you, how are you?”
“Language, Reiner”, the old woman scolded. You could recognize her now, it was his mother- Karina Braun.
“Excuse me mother”, he said. “But really, how have you been?”
“I’m okay, but shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?” You question him. “You’ve been at war for years.”
“Yeah, sure”, he responds. “Just tired.”
You pull away, and see Karina starting to smile, making her dimples appear on her cheeks. “This must be y/n, the girl you wouldn’t stay quiet about when you were little!” She exclaimed.
Reiner scoffed. “Not the time, mother. And I didn’t talk about her that much.”
The dispute between them made you giggle. Karina sighed, slightly exaggerated.
“If you like, you can come over for dinner tonight”, she offers. “I’m making beef stew and my sister and her family will be over to talk about what happened. Her daughter is a warrior candidate too, so I bet Reiner and her would have some interesting stories to tell.”
“Sounds wonderful!”, you say. “I’ll be over whenever.”
“Is seven alright for you?”
“Yes, that’s alright”, you reply. “In that case, I’ll see you two tonight!”
Karina beamed and nodded. Reiner was clearly starting to get bored of the conversation, observing some of the architecture of the station. It looked like he was in his own world, telling from the foreign look in his eyes. They didn’t seem as bright as they used to.
“I should go. I need to run some errands for my family before tonight, but I’ll be over! See you two later!”
“Goodbye, y/n!” Karina yelled as you waved and began to walk away. For some reason, Reiner did not say anything to you before you left, which you found strange. You chose to not question it out of being polite, he may still be adjusting to being back in Marley.
A couple hours had passed since you left the train station. You went to the market to negotiate the high prices of nectarines and plums, to the bank to cash a few checks, and back to your parents house to drop off groceries and a little bit of spare cash to buy toiletries for the week.
But Reiner didn’t leave your mind while you were doing all of this. You were almost scared to ask what happened to the others who went on the mission, in fear of the truth. Perhaps minding your own business was the best thing to do right now.
You walked into the Braun household at exactly 6:55, a smile on your face. Karina hurriedly walked to the door to greet you, a bubbling sound in the distance along with the scent of meat, garlic and rosemary.
“Welcome, welcome!” Karina chimed. “I’ll take your coat, it’s rather warm in here.”
“Thank you”, you say. “It smells delightful in here!”
“That would be the signature Braun family stew”, she said. “My sister is tending to the stew. Reiner and Gabi are in here waiting for you.”
You walked though the hall that connected to the dining room and small kitchen, where the smell was coming from. Reiner and Gabi sat at the table along with a middle aged man, who was Gabis father.
“Is this her?” The man asked. “Nice to meet you, y/n. This is my daughter Gabi, and I bet you know Reiner. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Gabi gave you a toothy smile, while Reiner just looked down staring at his empty bowl.
“Sit down, Reiner and Gabi are about to tell out about their experiences”, he said and pulled out a chair.
The other woman in the kitchen brought in a steaming pot of a red stew, chunks of meat, carrots and celery floating around in the thick broth. She dished you some, then gave some to the others.
Gabi seemed to talk for hours about how she single-handedly took out the rest of the Allied Forces from a grenade she constructed, Reiner not saying anything and only staring at the stew, occasionally poking the contents.
“It was amazing!” Gabi said. “After this it’s just those island demons!”
“Speaking of”, her father said. “Reiner, how was your stay in Paradis?”
“Dad, you shouldn’t ask that stuff!” Gabi yelled. “Most of it is probably classified anyways!”
“You’re right, Gabi”, he sighed. “Reiner, forgive your uncle.”
“Actually”, he began. “Not all of it is a secret. There was this girl who had the courage to eat a potato at the opening ceremony... what was her name again? Sasha Braus? Yep, that sounds about right...”
“That’s wonderful, but I mean the battle. Did they find out? About you know... the titan thing?”
The slight smile on Reiners face soon disappeared and turned into one of terror, his pupils getting small and eyebrows furrowing slightly.
Gabi elbowed her father. Karina flashed a nervous look to her sister, and you looked back to her for guidance.
“Reiner, are you okay?” She asked.
“Y-yeah, just need to step outside. I think the air is getting to m-me”.” He quickly got up and left his seat and hurried out the door, slamming it shut behind him.
You all sat in silence, growing uncomfortable by the second.
You weren’t hungry now.
———
After failing to make conversation due to the recent events, you get up and excuse yourself, only after putting your bowl in your sink and thanking them for dinner. Gabi promised she would tell you more about her adventures before you headed out the door.
The Braun’s had a small porch on the house, and you assumed that Reiner would be sitting there when you came out. But you were shocked to find him nowhere to be found. You told Karina that you would look around for him, and left the house.
You were out for two hours looking for him. The night was starting to become darker, stars twinkling above you and shining down on this messed up world you were a part of.
But after hours of searching and worrying that you may not see him again, you found him on a bench outside of a pub in Liberio.
“Hey, Reiner!” You yell to him. His reaction wasn’t as sudden as the last time you called his name at the train station. Instead, his head was hanging low and slowly lifted up, his eyes reminding you of a stray dog.
You walked towards him, and stood in front of him once you felt that he noticed your presence.
“Your mom is scared, she doesn’t know where you ran off to”, you lecture him. “You should really come back home-“
“I’m not coming back home tonight, y/n.”
“Huh?” You ask him. “Reiner, it’s almost midnight. I’ll take you home if you need someone to walk you home.”
“Stop worrying about me. I’m staying here for the night, gonna have a few beers. Just... go away.”
These words take you by surprise. You can feel your throat tighten, and you try and swallow the feeling down so you wouldn’t have to deal with it right now. You couldn’t cry, not with him in front of you like this.
“I said fuck off. What do you not get about that?” His gruff voice growled. There was hostility in his expression, like you had never known him, or even worse- he was your enemy.
“O-ok, I’ll be going now”, your say as your voice cracked. You did your best to stifle your tears but you couldn’t stop them from collecting at your lash line. “Um, have a good night, Reiner.”
Swiftly, you get up from the bench and head in the direction of home, where you would probably spend the incoming day crying in embarrassment for making Reiner pissed. This was the exact last thing you wanted to do, make him feel uncomfortable to the point where he was pushing you away.
You stopped at a nearby lamppost to collect your thoughts, slumping against the cold pole and letting a few tears trickle down your cheeks. You grab a tissue from your pocket, and try to soak up your salty tears. You felt like absolute and utter shit.
A few footsteps are heard in the distance, and you are quick to reach in your other pocket and pull out a small pocketknife. After all, Liberio after dark wasn’t a safe place for a woman to be. Especially in this lighting.
“Who’s there?” You ask. “Show yourself or I’m drawing my knife.”
“Calm yourself, y/n.”
The familiar deep voice came closer to where you were standing, and a tall figure showed itself in the shadows. The red armband was crimson in the faded yellow light from the lamp, the man wearing a beige uniform.
“Reiner?” You ask, hoping for an answer. “Is that you?”
“I followed you back. I’m sorry for yelling at you”, he grumbled, and scratched the back of his head. “It’s about time I told you what happened.”
You nod, and sit on the curbside of the dimly lit street. He came and sat with you, just like you two did when you were young.
“So are they like people say?” You ask. “You know, the whole devil thing.”
Reiner shrugs. “They’re not evil. But they’re not good people either. It’s... hard to describe.”
“I understand.”
“You do?”
“Well, that’s a stretch”, you say. “I don’t, but I know how you feel. Um, I know you probably don’t want me asking but... what happened to the rest of the people who went with you? Marcel? Bertholdt? Annie?”
Reiner puts a hand to his face and shakes his head.
“Marcel died first. Bertholdt died a year ago I think. His titan was passed down to some blonde boy with a bowl cut in Paradis. And Annie, god who knows where she is? I’m not sure if she’s alive or dead.”
This information was something you were struggling to process. Marcel was a quick thinker, how could he not survive? And Bertholdt- he had what may have been the strongest titan, and who would want to kill his poor gentle soul? Annie though, you still had a bit of hope for.
“Before he died”, Reiner began. “Marcel told me I wasn’t meant to become the Armored. It was supposed to be Porco, but he interfered to protect him. I’m seeing what he means by I wasn’t meant to do this.”
“Don’t say that”, you order him, but not in a pushy tone. More like a gentle one. “If you’ve made it back alive, that’s enough for me.”
“What would you have done if I died?”
“I wouldn’t know”, you say. “I don’t think I want to even think about that.”
He nods. Death was too familiar to him now, it had almost become his friend now. It wasn’t an uncommon thing to see nowadays.
“And you kept that promise to me”, you utter. “You came back in one piece. I’m proud. This entire country is too.”
Reiner doesn’t look to you. Instead he gives a hum of approval, indicating that he heard you. You could see his chiseled features in the moonlight shining down on him to create a perfect shadow. God he was beautiful, he always was.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐁𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭
Tumblr media
(Jean x fem!/reader) -> Angst -> 5.3k
Tumblr media
Notes: By far the most enjoyable chapter I’ve wrote (and teared up qwq) for this series. Hope you guys like it as much as I did! ^^
Ⅶ > Ⅸ
Tumblr media
That night, both you and the man had sat there for a little longer. Silence got the best of you along with him. Though you should have felt tense, the longer you sat, the more you enjoyed it. However, eventually, all good things came to an end. You reckoned how late it was getting, and he offered to walk you home.
Though you denied at first, he insisted saying: “that a gentleman should always walk a lady to her front door.” So he did. He ended up bringing you home, and helped you up the steps (still worried about your condition).
Before he left, he then looked at you and smiled. You did the same to then notice his jacket was still laced on your shoulders.
“Mr...Mr. Philosopher,” though you felt idiotic saying such a name, what else could you call him?
“Yes?” he chuckled at the label.
“What about your coat? I can’t guarantee I’ll see you again. Plus, I am home...meaning I won’t need it.”
Though he looked a little disappointed (since his attempt at chivalry didn’t go the way he planned), he then thought of something. He grabbed his jacket from you, and instead placed his hat on both of your palms. You were confused to say the least, but he then explained:
“I can guarantee that we will meet again. You’ll return my hat when we do, and don’t worry, I won’t make you wait for too long.”
“And you better not either,” he smirked as you shook your head.
“Haha alright then. Have a goodnight, and get home safely.”
“I will. Sleep well and...have good dreams.”
“You too,” you whispered to then close the door.
Tumblr media
---
“Y/n dear, you can’t be going out with someone like that at such late hours,” you paused while eating your breakfast, wondering why she would say such a thing.
“You don’t think I know? It already spiraled through the ladies that you met with someone a few nights ago. Though that was the case, the way it was told made it sound like you two were both friends.”
“Regardless, you need to be more careful with what you do,” your mother scolded as you sipped your tea.
“Yes mother...don’t worry too much about me.”
“Who was your friend Y/n? Have we met him before?” your father asked as you shook your head.
“No, you haven’t...so don’t think too hard about who he is,” you chuckled as the two sighed, concerned.
“Anyways, I need to go now. I’ll see you both later.”
You kissed your father’s cheek, slipped on your coat, and then grabbed a basket. Your father seemed worried for you, but couldn’t help but give in. After all, you were his little girl. Your mother shook her head also feeling the same. You knew they both just wanted the best, but you also knew what was best for you.
That being the case, you walked out of your house, and made your way to Gabi’s place.
---
“Oh hello Y/n.”
“Hello Mrs. Braun, lovely seeing you.”
“Same as well. Gabi should be down in a few minutes-”
“I’m already here!! Y/n, I’m ready when you are,” she muffled while eating a slice of toast.
“Don’t worry too much about me Gabi. You should finish eating if anything,” you chuckled as she seemed determined.
“No! I’m fine, we should get going now. See you later mom!”
“Bye Gabi and Y/n! Be safe you two,” you both nodded as you then started to walk away.
---
“Oh Y/n, I forgot to mention that Reiner might pop up sometime today. Mom told me to tell you in the morning,” she said while walking beside you.
“Sounds good. I’m free all day, so we can do whatever you want to do.”
That being the case, you both strolled through town for a while. You wanted to make sure that you were able to spend as much time as you could with Gabi. Your schedules barely aligned, and because of that, you chose to take advantage of the day ahead of you. You both bought snacks, and fruits to fill your basket with. Then, you both put things together in a field.
After laying down the cloth, and setting up your display, you then slipped your coat off. Reason being, you were going to train sooner than later, so better to get it out of the way. You put it to the side and said:
“So, what do you want to start of with-”’
“Y/n...I’m sorry,” you were shocked to say the least.
“For what?” you then kneeled to her level.
“For being so...so burdensome, you know? You seemed to have a lot on your mind as of recently, and all I’ve done is bother you...Falco talked some sense into me the other day, and I felt really bad...sorry.”
Gabi was someone who had trouble when trying to convey her feelings. That being the case, she started to cry. Both upset at herself, yet sorrowful towards you. She truly was a child, and you would never blame her for such a thing.
“Gabi, I get why you feel that way, but don’t worry too much about it. Yes, it’s true that a lot has been on my mind, but ultimately, I’m always open to helping you with something I’m capable of. Never hesitate to ask because...you might just regret it one day.”
“Okay Y/n.” she then jumped into your torso, and initiated a hug. You both rolled on the ground laughing, to then wince at the pain in your stomach. It healed quite a bit, but you still felt sore at times.
“Are you?-”
“I’m fine, no need to worry.”
To prove you were, you quickly grabbed her by her ankle while standing. She was now head down, and legs up. You giggled for her to then swing, and grab your leg, ready to slam it whenever her body commanded. You then gave in and gently let her down. You didn’t need to break your back, and plus, your stomach couldn’t afford another hard blow. She smirked, and you both then went on to train for a while.
Tumblr media
---
Next thing you knew, it was lunch time. Reiner had just dropped by as you two pulled out your meal. Gabi waved to get his attention, and he did the same while walking towards you. You smiled and Gabi sprang up, thrilled to see him.
“Reiner! You’re just in time!” She said as he nodded.
“Yeah...I actually got off early for once.”
“Luckily, you’re just in time for lunch,” you said.
“Sounds great, I haven’t eaten yet.”
“Y/n! Y/n! Did you bring pancakes this time!?” Gabi asked as you then pulled a cloth, revealing the dessert.
Though these ones were fluffier, had toppings, and whipped cream, it still reminded you of that one time you made them...which made you smile an ounce. Both were ecstatic to see them, and even tried diving in. You laughed and pulled them away, exclaiming:
“Not now! We need to eat lunch first, then we can have them after,” they both sighed as you grabbed the sandwiches.
The three of you sat and ate those sandwiches, along with all different kinds of fruits Gabi picked out. After that, you then allowed them to enjoy the pancakes, which they were very grateful for. To your surprise, after you all finished, Reiner then pulled out something in two separate boxes. One each for the two of you.
“I found them on my way here. They looked matching and I thought they’d suit you,” he said while drinking his iced tea.
They were two charm bracelets. Your’s with a f/c accent, and gabi’s with an emerald like tint. You both adored the gifts as you stared at them in awe. You watched as Gabi struggled to put her’s on, which made you laugh. You then helped her out and connected the two ends together. Needless to say, she seemed upset that you had both put it on for her, and that thought it was funny.
Unfortunately, to your surprise, you also found yourself in a similar position. It really was hard to put on. Gabi then found herself laughing at you, as you shook your head in disappointment. Reiner then held your wrist, and clasped the two ends, making them connect.
“Here. Did I pinch you?”
“No, you didn’t. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Oooo Reiner helping Y/n out? Hehe,” the both of you rolled your eyes.
“It’s not like that,” he said.
“Yeah...it’s really not.”
“Dang...but I want you to be my cousin...ah good try,” she muttered to herself.
“Wait Reiner, did you get one for yourself?”
“I didn’t Gabi, why?-”
“We should get you one!” she exclaimed.
“I’m not sure...jewelry isn’t much of an appeal in my opinion.”
“I agree with Gabi. I’ll buy it for you,” you then stared at him optimistically, along with Gabi. He then sighed in defeat, following with:
“Only after I get a good spar with the both of you,” he then stood up, and looked at you.
You nodded to then stand as well. You got in a ready position, and he did the same. Though you thought he would engage, he instead waited for you to do so. You did as he wanted and ran straight towards him. Since Reiner had always been weak in the knees, you tried to kick him there. Though you attempted, he was just much bigger, and faster than you.
He was able to doge your attack, and while your body was in the kicking motion, grabbed your torso, to then fling you onto his shoulder. You struggled as he held onto both your upper, and lower body. Trapping you to your misfortune.
“Haha, I won,” he smirked and you groaned.
“No fair...you didn’t even let me-”
“It’s going to take a while before you beat the likes of me,” you then tried to squiggle your way out, but stopped as he then let you down.
“Damn...I’ll be sure to get you next time,” you smiled determinedly.
“Heheh, we’ll see.”
“Anyways, we can go a little later into the day. I actually invited everyone else to meet up with us, so we’ll have more company,” Reiner stated. Both you and Gabi agreed to then start training with Reiner.
Tumblr media
---
During the evening, the three of you travelled to town. There, you met almost everyone. They either were done with their responsibilities, or also had the day off. Porco, Zeke, Pieck, Colt, and Falco showed, and you all greeted them with a wave.
“Zeke, it’s been a while,” he opened his arms and you hugged him. If anything, now that time had passed, he probably came second when being your older brother (since Berthold came first).
“Yeah, it has been. How’s your stomach by the way? Reiner told us about it,” Pieck would then intervene.
“Yeah he did. I brought some ointment just in case.”
“Yeah...you okay?” Proco asked and you’d nod.
“I’m fine haha, always making thingd seem over dramatic.”
“I was just worried is all,” Reiner would defend as the others chortled.
“Yeah yeah, wish you’d worry more about Porco like that,” Zeke would tease as Porco scoffed.
“Guys! Let’s go around to the cafes! I’m in the mood for some cake!”
“You know what, yeah, we should!” for once, Falco actually agreed with Gabi. Which you found quite funny as Colt tried to calm down the two.
“Guys guys, maybe not today.”
“Don’t worry about it Colt. It is our night off, so we should make the best of it,``” Pieck assured as the boy gave in.
“If that’s the case, let’s go all on out!”
“Hey now, don’t get too excited Colt. Afterall, you might be paying for us,” Zeke joked as Colt blushed embarrassed.
“Don’t listen to Zeke...now let’s go have some fun!” Porco would remark as the rest of you agreed.
You all browsed around with each other. Gabi and Falco were able to get the cupcakes they wanted, and colt, some apple pie. Zeke had gotten a cinnamon bun, while the rest of you spent your money elsewhere. Pieck had bought all Riner, Zeke, and Porco ties, while you bought the two younger boys their own things.
Colt a watch, and Falco an encrusted journal. Though both had insisted on you not doing so, you couldn’t help but do it. You already treated Gabi along with Reiner, so it only felt right to. Both were thankful to say the least, and the others were joyful while cruising around. You continued to stroll to then hear Gabi call for you.
“Y/N! Y/N!” she grabbed your arm dragging you towards a stall. You swore you saw someone watch the both of you, but ignored it as she then spoke.
“I found the bracelets! You can finally get one for Reiner now!”
“Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that. What colour should we get?”
“Hm,” Gabi then looked at the variety. She seemed to have thought for a while, to then spew:
“I think we should get the black.”
“Why is that?”
“I feel like black is a neutral colour. Plus, it kind of describes Reiner. Mysterious yet respected, you know?”
“I guess so,” the merchant passed you a nice box with the bracelet in it. You then paid, and thought about her statement. She wasn’t wrong about Reiner, but you wondered what convinced her into thinking that way. In your perspective, he’s always been someone she looked up to, and yet, here she was displaying him in such a light.
Though it didn’t bother you much, you wondered what she had caught onto. Before you could think even more, Zeke then called out to the both of you.
“Let’s go to the beach. The moon’s out, so it’ll look nice.”
“Plus, we could all take a dip, eh?”
“Sure, let’s go.”
Tumblr media
---
Everyone splashed around for a little bit. The moon peered over all of you, as the stars flowed in the skies above. The sight of all of your friends was a great one to see. They all seemed so happy. Falco splashed some water onto your clothes. He apologized almost immediately, but you reassured that things were fine. After all, you felt like you needed a break from so much horse play.
You then walked back to the sand, and sat there. Though soon enough, you realized your clothes were full of wet sand. Even so, you could have cared less. You were then joined by Pieck. She sat beside you only to have the same problem.
“Oh dear.”
“Haha yeah...I should’ve warned you in advance.”
“No, it's fine. It’s good to dip into the sand like this every now and then.”
“Mhm…”
“Y/n...do you mind if I ask you about something? If the topic isn’t to your liking, we can change it.”
“Of course Pieck, go on.”
“I heard about the idea of your proposal...have you made a decision?” you felt as if that was all you were asked. The engagement and the future those wanted for you. Though Pieck and some others wanted to know for your well being, it started to annoy you. You felt as if things were pent up inside, but you continuously chose to ignore them. This being just another example.
“*sigh* I think so...I mean, I probably will.”
Pieck saw the uncertainty written all over you. Though she knew something was wrong, she didn’t question. She was someone who would rather observe then get involved (unless needed). Though she didn’t want to interfere and attack you with questions, she instead decided to give you her opinion. Hoping her less suppressive way of communication could help a bit.
“Well, I’m sure many have told you this...but pick what you want. I know it’s not simple, but what I also know is that I never want to see that look on your face.”
“What look?”
“When I grabbed you from that Island,” she then stared at the stars above, putting her hands behind her, trying to relax. She tried to prepare herself with what she was going to say next, along with you.
“Your face...it looked so...so torn. Even though I didn’t know for what reason, you looked...so hurt. It broke my heart seeing you like that, and if something like this...is going to trigger that same reaction...don’t do it...okay? The Eldians don’t need such an event to excite them, they just need you to continue to be the leader you are.”
You were surprised at her answer. Needless to say, you then said:
“Wow...you figured out my intentions so easily.”
“I know you in and out Y/n,” she grinded and you as well.
You both watched as Reiner came over. He seemed exhausted from playing with the others. Though he felt that way, the other five were enthusiastic while chicken fighting. Pieck took notice, and knew it was cue for her to leave. Though you didn’t say anything, she got up, and walked past Reiner. You were thankful (yet baffled) by her words, and then watched as the man sat beside you.
“What was that all about?”
“Nothing,” you then gestured for him to sit closer. He did so, and you grabbed the box from earlier. Though you had tried to make the exchange quick, Proco and Gabi made that an obstacle for you.
“Is that Y/n proposing?” he gasped dramatically.
“NO WAY! SHE’S GOING TO BE MY COUSIN!?”
You both then sighed leading you to stand up. He did the same, and followed you to the other side of the beach. Though you loved the two, in your opinion...this wasn’t the time for any tomfoolery. You weren’t sure as to what was yet to come...but your gut said something serious. You then laid your jacket and set up “camp” on the side you were on. You were thankful for the privacy, and opened the box yet again.
“Gabi picked this out for you,” he then opened it.
“I forgot about that...you didn’t have to-”
“But I did. For both Gabi and I. Here, let me help you,” you then placed the bracelet on his wrist, and hooked the two ends together.
He looked at you for a moment, though thankful for your gesture, he was more curious as to why you both were alone. All you needed to do was exchange the gift...that being the case, why were you so far from the others.
“So, I’m assuming we moved for more than a mere jewelry exchange”
Like said before...you weren’t even sure yourself.
“Nah, I just...didn’t want the others to tease,” you said while you stared at the ocean.
Though you never wanted to think about Paradis (intentionally)...tonight...tonight felt different. While staring at the body of water, you thought about how the place was just on the other side. Once considered enemies, friends...and now...you didn’t even know. You tried avoiding so many things. Those thoughts just being a small portion. It felt as if you were penting in so many feelings, but couldn’t let them out...alone at least.
You wondered if that was the reason why you brought Reiner here. So far from the others, yet so close to you. Though you weren’t sure if you were going to vent, knowing you both shared the same pain...gave you some type of comfort. You always knew that there was one significant thing connecting the two of you, and that was the burden of your memories. The guilt of coming back, and the blood you both shed, laid on your hands. Though it sounded selfish to use each other as a way to cope...what else could you do?
Though you hated it, it felt like the only thing that made sense. Friends with a guilt who would die with it...embedded in their hearts. Though not the most romantic trope, it was the most realistic one...the one thing you constantly found yourself facing...reality. Something you despised and yet, could not ignore. There was no escaping it, and even Reiner knew. You were glad you weren’t alone during all of this. Though a somewhat torn friendship which had both fake, yet genuine smiles, it was one that was beautifully made between the two of you.
He would say the same as he gazed at your palm which caressed the sand. It’s almost as if he could read your mind as he skipped a pebble into the water.
“You’re thinking of Paradis aren’t you?...” no more denial...today was the day you wanted to be honest with him, and yourself.
“Yeah…”
“Ah...I see,” he then shifted his gaze towards you. The saddened yet hurt look on your face, though he could relate to, made him feel ever so sorry towards you. If he hadn’t messed things up, you wouldn’t have ended up where you were now...though he felt this way, he sighed and said:
“You know what, let’s be honest with each other Y/n. It seems as if we could...both use it.”
“Yes...of course,” you nodded in agreement.
“We haven’t talked about it ever since our return, and I think...ah...we could use this time to do so. So ask me anything...I’ll answer honestly...that way, we can both get rid of any suppressed iniquity.”
You watched as he put a hand to his heart. Though you found it to be out of the blue, you took it in as a note of sincerity. Knowing how much that place traumatized him, seeing the salute, put you at ease as you sunk into your thoughts.
“Okay...first of all, how’s your sleep going? Are the nightmares as bad as I think they are?” Though shocked at your question (expecting it to be more interrogative), he answered wholeheartedly.
“They are pretty bad...to the point I force myself to stay awake at times. But they aren’t unbearable, so to answer your question, I’ve been doing fine.”
“I see,” You then decided that you would ask him things that you were actually curious about. Both at the island, and in present time.  He said he would be honest, and you trusted that.
“Why did the three of you leave me out of things? I know it wasn’t out of pure burden, so I’d like an actual reason, Reiner.”
“Ahh, I had a feeling this would be a question,” he then readjusted himself.
“You know, it being a burden to you was partially part of the reason...but I wouldn’t say the main motive. At the time, being as delusional as I was, I only believed that the mission to Paradis was one for the warriors. The warriors only. Since you weren’t one, I saw it to be burdensome on both sides. You being a disadvantage to us, and us being one to you. That being the case, the three of us had meetings without you, and if we did tell you anything, it was either misleading, or a fraction of our actual plan.”
“Hm, makes sense,” you said bluntly to then ask the next question.
“My third question is, why did you leave me out of the plan for Trost? I feel as if that specific expedition had more to it then the reasoning you just gave. As if there were other motives...during that event specifically.”
This had to do with the fact Berthold had warned you ahead of time. Though you hated the idea of your predictions being correct, this was your time to get an answer. He then looked at you shocked, and understood that you must’ve caught on. He proceeded to ask:
“What makes you say that?...”
“A few days prior, Berthold had warned me about staying alert...and alive. After watching the colossal, and seeing how the three of you responded to my questions...I only assumed the worst.”
Reiner sighed and you could hear the guilt in his voice. Though this was the case, he knew he would have to atone one day for his wrong doing...and coming clean, though made him seem awful...was the only way to do things.
“Whatever you had assumed...you were probably right. I honestly thought you were going to die during that mission. You were just...so strong, yet so weak at the same time. Seeing that one flaw, I had basically planned for you to do so. Though I had no direct strategy, I assumed that if you stayed alone like you usually did, that you would pass (“pass” meaning: “pass away).
We would both get you out of our way, and simply tell your family that you had died “honorably” for the sake of Marely. Though we never got to since only I (out of the three) came back, and well...so did you.”
You felt sickened to say the least. To see how viscous they were, and how they would’ve easily come back to spout lies to your family. That disgusted you in every way possible. To dispose of your life so that they could save theirs? Though yours didn’t mean much to Marely, you knew it did to them...and to hear Reiner actually admit with such words...hurt a lot. It saddened you to see just how much Marely had conditioned the three...along with yourself.
Though that was the case, you still needed to understand more...more as to why things were done the way they were. So you responded to Reiner, and he listened.
“I had assumed so...since Berthold came with such a worried expression...and that would be the only logical reason for your planning,” though you thought he had finished, he continued to say:
“That being the case, it was obvious for us to not say anything to you...though Berthold had thought differently. Honestly...I’m glad he did, or you wouldn’t be here today.”
“Mhm...wait, now that I think of it, what happened to him? I know he didn’t come back, but do you think they actually...k-killed him?” you choked on your words, hoping that it wasn’t true.
“I...I don’t know. I was unconscious the entire time in shiganshina, and Zeke didn’t seem to have any idea either.
‘Shiganshina? Wait...wait does that mean?’
“I wouldn’t doubt it though...especially with after all we’ve done-” before he could say anything else, you then cut him off.
“Reiner, where was Jean? Was he alive? Please tell me he was alive,” panic filled the brim of your eyes as he tried to calm you down.
“Last time I recall, he was. I’m pretty sure he actually attacked me, along with the rest of our comrades. So yes...he was alive.”
Relief then piled on top of you. You were glad that he lived till that day. Though you weren’t sure whether he died or not (which added even more guilt to your conscience), knowing that his heart pumped in the midst of that chaos, helped remove an inch of that guilt which resided. You had enough faith to believe he might have been alive...somewhere out there. But you would never be able to say unless you saw him...once more...yet again.
“How did you get here? I was never told and avoided asking, but knowing that if a titan and Zeke were involved...it must’ve been something shocking, yet miraculous.”
“Ah...as sharp as ever. That day, the titan held me in it’s mouth and carried me back to Zeke. I think he told it to bring someone back, if anything anyone, and it did. He then explained to me as to what he was doing on Paradis, and Pieck then sent me back to the doc...leading me back to Marely.”
“I see…”
You then started to tear up. Water flowed down your cheeks as Reiner looked at you surprised. Though you had felt the wrongdoing for so long, you couldn’t help but cry. Just like death is described so simply, so was the feeling of guilt...along with sadness. Sorrow for your friends, comrades...and the person you loved most. Even if these events took place in the past, the pain would forever stay in the present.
“Annie...Bertholdt...I’m so sorry. Sorry for being pathetic, and getting in your way…” you then clenched your hair as the next words came out. Both out of agony, yet a way to guilt trip Reiner in the moment. Before hearing what you would say, he patted your shoulder, trying to comfort you in the way he knew best. Silence and listening.
“If only I had died like Reiner had planned...would you have been here now?” Reiner looked horrified to say the least. Though you did feel this (to an extent), you’d never want to bring up such a thing. But at this time, you selfishly did. Since impulsivity was your pathetic excuse to help you cope. Reiner felt such weight on his shoulders, and you could tell as he too started to pour.
“The three of you...I’m so sorry. If only I wasn’t such a fake...such a coward...all of us would be here. No casualties, no deaths...none of the trauma...I’m so sorry...especially to you Y/n.”
He sat there and continued to sob. His hands clenched, body stiff, and eyes red. You stopped after seeing him in such a condition. You were right...every smile did have it’s frowns...Reiner being the greatest example, along with yourself. Though it looked pitiful from an outsider’s view, it was merely absurd for the two of you to be this broken. Afterall, you both (out of the five) had inflicted the most pain onto the torn.
Your lies, actions, and murders. You both knew that and seeing you wail, made you feel even more upset. Though that was the case...you acknowledged that you would have to toughen up, be the bigger person for the sake of you both. That way, you could get through that hell hole of your mind. Even with that, you still used this as an opportunity to let out everything. That way, you could prepare for whatever mental wave was yet to come.
“Y/n...I’m sorry. I dragged you into such a mess, almost killed you on numerous events, betrayed your trust, and yet...you’re still my friend,” you then rubbed his back hoping to soothe his anguish.
“I...stop acting so pitiful...the two would pester you if they saw. The past is the past, and we both need to focus on the present. Now that we’ve got this long awaited, and needed conversation out of the way, we can move on with less burden.”
You then put a hand on his shoulder, for him to then look at you.
“I forgive you. Though it hurts to hear, and I’m still quite furious...you’re my friend. Plus, I have no right to play innocent when I’ve done just as much harm. I forgive you, and the others probably do as well. Even Porco for goodness sake,” you smirked for him to then say:
“Ah...Porco still hates me though,” you then smacked his arm playfully.
“That’s not true haha.”
You then lie in the sand, and gestured for him to do so. He lay beside you, and watched as your finger pointed to the sky. Though he was confused, you understood your own intentions. You decided to be open with Reiner about Jean. Only this once since he was so open to you, and this was the only time you felt vulnerable enough to do so.
“You see those constellations?”
“Yes.”
“Jean showed me those. We went stargazing together one time, and stared at the beautiful orbs. It was such a precious moment...one that I’ve never forgotten no matter how hard I tried.”
“I see.”
You both sat and watched in silence. No words were exchanged because none needed to be. The wind that rushed down from head to toe, consoled you as the ocean moved back and forth. The quietness of this scene...was ever so comforting. You were glad Reiner was able to share it with you. That being the case, you also felt relieved when he asked:
“Do you...do you miss him?”
“Yes...yes I do.”

GREAT DESCENDANT — Pt. 2 Extra Bread

"T-Thank you, sir!"
He stuttered out and bowed a little to the soldier who gave him five loaves of bread. Though the older man did not acknowledge his gratitude at all, instead he just sneered at him, making him flinch since he was reminded of the fact that this island filled with demons.
His long feet stride out from the line, wanting to get back to where his friends waited. Today it was his duty to get the food for his companions, and it needed all of his courage to utter how many people in his family were left when the soldier asked him.
Four, it was the right answer that he was supposed to say. But he couldn't help but stutter five instead. It had only been a few weeks after they breached the outer wall, Maria, and yet he still couldn't believe that it was only the four of them now.
Each of them was grieving. Annie would now scowl a lot and buried her face in her hands, not wanting anyone to see the vulnerable look on her face. Reiner was different, he tried to act tough despite the nightmares that often accompanied him in his sleep. While him? He hid his sadness and pain deep inside his heart because he knew that someone suffered more.
You, you didn't talk at all for days as if you were just their shadows. Annie made sure that you were not hurt when he and Reiner crushed the gate. And even though you were not uttering any words, you could do your task ideally without a hitch, and that was to sneak inside with battered clothes, acting like a child who lost everything.
But maybe you were indeed lost everything, that was what he thought when he saw you just staring into spaces without any expression on your face. The bubbly and warm person that he met back then in Marley was nowhere to be found at this point and he hoped that someday he could meet her again.
When his pale green eyes fell to the familiar strands of your hair, he started to run, wanting to give you the bread for today since the sun was up for hours yet no one ate anything just yet. The shelter where all of them were hiding was an abandoned barn just outside the main city, no one knew who the owner of it was, but when Reiner found it empty, they decided to use it as a temporary house.
They just needed to survive for a few years and they could enroll in the military after that. But now they had to make a plan about what they should do in the meantime. Now they were just four orphans who lost everything from wall Maria. A few days ago a soldier gave them a form to fill out, consisting of some questions about names, birth, and the residence they used to live in before.
And that was the first time he heard your voice after weeks wallowing yourself in silence. When Marcel was alive, he told you that you needed to change your last name. Just for a disguise, it was the safest option because who would have expected if someone knew the weight of your name.
"No." You whispered out, one hand scribbling down the paper to write your name. "I am not going to lose my identity. No." There was a lingering pain in your voice that everyone could notice. "I will do anything, Reiner, but not this. This is my last name and I will lose it if someone takes it away from me."
The blonde frowned when he heard your rebellion, you seemed fine when Marcel asked you to do that back then, but now you changed your mind and he wished he knew the words that could sway you. You continued to write down your information without stopping while the boys stared at you with wonder.
Annie knew that you couldn't be forced to do something that you wouldn't do, so she just shrugged it off and focused on her paper, not wanting to spend her time filling forms if she could do it fast. She really thought Reiner would drop it after hearing your statement, but sometimes he just didn't know when to stop.
"Hey, but Marcel would tell you to do the same."
Bertolt could imagine his friend getting beaten up again at this point. But this time not from Annie, instead, he would get it from you who was now gripping so tight on the pencil that he was afraid you would stab the armoured titan inheritor on the neck with it.
"That's the thing, Braun." You gritted your teeth, avoiding yourself for kicking him on the face. And when the poor boy heard you called him by his last name, he knew that he was done for good. "Marcel is not here anymore, and you are not Marcel."
Bertolt made a note on his head that he would never want to get on your bad side. He felt a shiver down his spine at that time when you completely disregarded Reiner, and those words were not even for him. He couldn't imagine what his friend felt, must be hell for sure.
"Hey, I-I got the food for us today." Stopping on his track right in front of you. You were currently cleaning up the dust on the window, he recalled you said that you despised dirty windowpane last night, and he raised his eyebrow since he wondered how you got some clothes to clean it up with.
"Thank you, Bertolt." You gave him a soft smile, and from just that gesture he could feel his cheek burning from — goodness, he didn't even know what he was feeling right now. "Oh? You got five? How?" He was still in a trance when you threw the question, making him baffled for a second there.
"I said that there were five members in my family." He averted his eyes, ashamed to confess that to you. That and the fact he would see the sadness inside your eyes if he did so."I didn't mean to, really, b-but I only realised it after the soldier gave the portion to me."
"Oh, Bertolt." You let out a long sigh and grabbed two pieces of bread from his hand. "You know you could correct yourself after that, right?" He knew that you were scolding him, but with how soft your voice was, he just accepted it, not even once trying to correct himself. "I will give it back to the soldier, okay? You go inside, Reiner and Annie are waiting for you."
"But shouldn't you eat first?" He was concerned for sure, and despite knowing the fact that you could handle this harsh world by yourself, he was not sure if it was the right choice to let you go alone. "I can drop this off to them and I can accompany you, right?"
You chuckled at this, and his pupils widened at that since it was the first time you expressed some kind of joyful gesture since Marcel's incident. Your eyes closed as you chuckled at him, he didn't know what he did to make you like this but his brain short-circuited to even think about it. He just stood there with mouth agape, enjoying the pure, melodious giggle that slipped from your mouth.
"Bertolt," And how much he loved his name rolled down your tongue was uncanny. "It's okay, I will eat mine on the way. And I can handle myself, I am going to be back before you know it! You don't have to be concerned about me." You gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder, and his body went rigid at that. "See you later, tell the others where I am going, okay?"
He was too frozen in the spot even when you already strolled down the street with the loaves of bread in your hand. There was no time for him to answer you, and he felt like all the words were stuck in his throat. You just touched him, that was the only thing that he could process right now.
Yes, it was nothing special since you always held Pieck's hand back then or gave a pat to the other warrior candidates (especially Porco, for as long as he remembered even though the boy seemed to dislike your presence and unfazed by it), but to him, feeling your touch like that was everything.
It gave him some kind of boost, maybe it was the warm tingle that he felt whenever you were around or the fact that your existence just screamed comfort — he didn't know exactly what caused him to treasure your touch. What he knew for sure that in the end, he enjoyed your company.
"Oi, Bertolt! Why are you standing there like a statue?!"
"S-Sorry, Reiner—"
The wind caressed your hair as you wandered down the street, turning left and right to the alleyway that would lead you to the plaza. This place had been your home for a few weeks now, and you started to enjoy living here, greeting some people here and there despite how many times Reiner told you not to.
They would ask, of course, where you were from. And you always answered it without hesitation, without a pause, as if the one who talked was an entirely different person with how you always lost all the light in your face when you gave them your answer. They would sympathize, and you took their pity and kept acting it out.
You had a different approach in this mission compared to the other warrior. While they decided to keep a low profile, you were going all out and showed yourself as a victim from the fall of wall Maria. Lots of benefits coming your way with how some adults asked you to move in with them or offering you a job so you could fend for yourself.
Their offers were always so sweet, but you didn't want to leave your friends inside a cold barn with nothing to lay on except the pile of hay. You always ended up cuddling with Annie, not caring that she wanted to kick you on the face at first for not giving her enough space, she ended up liking to sleep in your embrace days after that, so for you, it was all worth it.
Maybe though, their offer about working for them could help you. There were some of them and you sure at least one of the jobs had good earnings. You could buy food for your friends if that was the case, all of you didn't have to rely on free food anymore. And so, you decided that you would go to the adult near the plaza after this, asking if the offer was still up.
"I am sorry! It was already late and there was only one bread left for us!"
Your ears caught the distressed tone that came from the alleyway near you. The plaza was empty now since it seemed like the ration already finished for the day. To know that a lot of people couldn't even have one bread to eat made your stomach churned with guilt and anger for yourself.
"It's alright, Armin. We can share it."
"Yeah, it's not like I eat a lot anyway."
There were three of them, three children that looked like they were the same age as you, and they only got one piece of bread for the whole day. Knowing that the soldier was not there anymore and the commotion already dispersed, you decided to give the bread to them instead.
Your tiny feet waddled toward them, they were currently deep in thought about how to divide the food fairly. And you were thankful that you haven't eaten your fair of bread, so now each of the kids could have one.
"Excuse me," You interrupted their discussion, three pairs of eyes immediately turned to face you. Two of them looked at you with confusion while the other one had her eyes filled with caution. "I am sorry, I heard about your problem before, and I have two extra pieces of bread that you guys could take."
The two boys, one with blonde hair and the other with short dark brown hair — looked at each other without saying anything. It was like they had this kind of bond, talking through their minds before giving each other a nod. Maybe they were debating if it was alright to accept your hospitality or not.
"It's fine, but is this bread really alright for us to take?" The boy with the ocean blue eyes spoke up, taking one step forward to your figure. "What about you then, have you eaten yet today?"
"Yes, it's fine. If not, I am not going to offer it in the first place." You gave him a gentle smile before answering his next question a little bit too quickly to your liking. "Don't worry about me! I already got breakfast before and ate mine. You don't have to think—"
"You are lying." The girl that had been silent the whole time suddenly cut your sentence. "Don't tell me I am wrong because I am sure that I am right." She didn't sugarcoat her words at all, and you couldn't understand anymore if her words mean good or bad. Because surely her onyx orbs looked at you as if you were a threat.
You closed your eyes and exhaled loudly, knowing that you couldn't lie anymore with how sharp the three of them were. But this fact wouldn't stop you from wanting them to take your fair.
"Well, yes, I haven't eaten." Surrendering yourself to honesty, you continued. "But I am going to be fine, an adult in this shop near the plaza offered me a job and food, so I could get it from them after this." You explained truthfully, handing them the bread thereafter.
"Then how come you had extra bread in the first place?" The short-haired boy now squinting his eyes, wanting to understand your hidden motive in case there were any. "You had one for yourself too despite knowing that you could get food from this adult you told us about. So why should we trust you?"
"Eren!"
Ah, so the boy's name is Eren. You thought, couldn't believe that someone would even doubt the others for giving free food. But then again, you couldn't blame them for being extra cautious. No one knew what could happen inside these walls. The worst-case scenario from this was that you poisoned them to get rid of another life to prevent any more hunger.
"You don't have to trust me, of course." You answered him with a soft and calm tone, something that you learned from your house back in Marley. That even when someone raised their voice at you, you needed to handle them with care. "My friend was the one who got the food from me, and he didn't check that he got extra food, so I am here with the first mission to give it back to the garrison soldier."
You gave them the answer that they want, both hands still pushed forward, waiting for them to take it. "Promise I wouldn't disturb you anymore, I just want to make sure you guys get enough food. That's all."
There was a long silence engulfing the four of you. That was until the blonde took the bread out of your hand and gave you a smile of gratitude, which you answered with the same gesture as him. The other two were now looking at you with a softened gaze, finally stripping away their caution towards you.
"I am sorry that I sounded rude before." The brunette started, giving you a cheeky smile as his ears tinted with a pinkish hue. "I just need to be careful around strangers, everything just messed up at this time, you know?" He chuckled bitterly, his eyes darkening as if a terrible memory fleeting through his mind for a second.
"It's fine. I know where that thought is coming from." You kicked the pebbles near your foot before, making it bounce to the wall as you looked down. "Everything is just a nightmare after the breach." And you tried so hard not to break down, not in front of anyone, especially those who were the victim of your action. "All of you — didn't deserve any of it."
Your voice that was so warm and comforting before now turned into a completely different tone. There was sadness, at least that was what they could hear from you. They couldn't see the expression in your eyes since you persisted in looking down at your feet, avoiding their gaze at all cost.
"And you didn't deserve it too."
The blonde, that if you recalled from before was called Armin, telling you words that you thought you wouldn't need to hear. "No one wanted this to happen, no one deserved to live like this." He continued, and you were ready to crumble even more. "But this is our life, for now, so we can't do anything else but move on."
You wanted to get down on your knees, hugging his legs as you begged for forgiveness. Just like what you saw in some of the memories from your ancestors, there were just normal human beings inside these walls. Just like in Marley, just like on the other continent, there were good and bad people, and nothing differentiated them except the fact that they had a titan's blood flowing inside their veins.
Nothing else but that — and the dangerous truth that lies within the walls.
"It's called rumbling, right?"
Just one month from now, you were going to inherit the war hammer titan, and you have been studying a lot, reading the journal that your ancestor wrote. The book was so helpful, preparing you to know the truth that this world had to hide. Sometimes your twelve years old brain could not even understand it.
The past few years you had been training hard privately. You got the best instructor, honing your mental and physical build at the same time. But since you reached the age of ten, your father introduced you to Commander Magath who was in charge of the Warrior Unit, the unit for those titan inheritors.
And you trained with them ever since then. Creating a bond and friendship to those who would fight alongside you in the upcoming battle. The majority of them were easy to talk with like Marcel, Pieck, Zeke, Reiner, and Bertolt. While the rest — not so much.
Annie was fine though, she still talked to you here and there and taught you about some certain techniques of hand-to-hand combat that you deemed remarkably useful. Porco on the other hand, you wanted to grimace at the interaction that you had with him. Yet despite all that, you couldn't stop yourself from smiling for just thinking about him.
But this moment was not the right time to reminisce about the warrior training, not when a few months from now, you would embark on a mission to reclaim the founding titan.
"Yes, when the founding titan decided to unharden the walls and released millions of colossal titan, it was called rumbling." Your father sat across from where you were, filling out papers from the military about you. "If that happened, the whole world would turn into nothing."
You gave a nod of acknowledgement, fingers tracing the ink that seeped on the worn-out paper journal.
"So it was risky to let the founding titan stay in Paradis since no one knew if someday they would activate the rumbling or not." You stated the sentence as a matter of factly, absorbing the information that sometimes made your head pound. "It was risky since they closed themselves inside those walls and no one knew what happened there."
"Yes, my dear." His voice cracked like any other time, having so much burden for throwing you to the frontline of the battle like that. You, his little star, his precious daughter that he never wanted to turn her into a war machine that could only live for thirteen years. "That is why you need to prevent it from happening."
But it was something that needed to be done — and there was nothing that you could do except embracing the cruel truth like an old friend.
"Yes, you are right." Fixing your composure, you were back to the kind girl from before. "Thank you for telling me that, I think I need it." You chuckled softly, fingers tucking the strands of your hair behind the ear. "I-I will go now, then. Hope all of you survive and continue on living!"
Bowing yourself a little before departing (a trait that you couldn't shake off that easily), you waved at them and turned your heels, walking away from the three children that you really hoped would have a beautiful life ahead, for as long as they could have.
"Wait!" But you halted your feet to move forward when you heard Eren's voice calling out for you.
"Yes? What is it?" You were still not that far from them, so you decided to use your normal volume as if they were still right in front of you.
"We haven't got your name!" Yet despite how calm you were, the boy seemed to choose to shout at you anyway. "I am Eren! This is Armin and Mikasa, they are everything that I had left! Now, what's yours?!"
Hearing how excited he was made you giggle, such a complete opposite for real compared to him a few minutes ago when he looked at you with caution. Now he became the child he was supposed to be, with a wide grin on his face as he just wanted to know the name of his probably new friend.
And so you indulged him with it, answering his question with a clear and solid tone.
"It's (Y/n)!" You decided to shout back, equaling his enthusiasm. "(Y/n), (Y/n) Tybur!"

Hiiii! I came to say that I LOVED the reiner fic!!! I would 100% read a part two. I like to think that youre going to give us a good ending :")
[Read Part 1 here] Omg brace yourself, this part is going to be ANGSTYYYYY. (Nice of you to think of a good ending tho, I wanna think about it to :’) )
Reiner Braun
Reiner and you both joined the Survey Corps, plus, the two of you have become a couple.
After all the terrible things that happened, the first time together at the Survey Corps was pretty nice - not relaxing, but nice.
You would go on your first mission soon, so there was a lot of training again. And since you are used to Reiner and Bertl as training partners, you continued this tradition.
Reiner especially enjoyed the sparring sessions with you - he had become veeeery touchy since you became a couple. His hands often meet the small of your back, your thighs and waist.
And even though it sends shivers down your spine, you used this fact to your advance: You often sent Reiner to the ground. (In his opinion this made you ten times sexier).
Life at the scout’s head quarter was a little more relaxed than during your training. There were no separated dorms, every scout had their own little room - some of them shared the bigger rooms - and you had dinner with everyone, no matter what military rank they had.
Therefore, Reiner and you often sit together with the rest of your friends until late at night, chatting, bonding, and enjoying the fact that you are still alive.
And you spend the nights together with Reiner. Not every night, because you didn’t want to cause any trouble (like, when both of you were super tired during training).
Most nights you just lay side by side, holding each other, talking. Reiner’s fingers would softy run through your hair and his broad chest would make the best pillow ever.  Reiner would love to hold you close, feeling your tiny (tiny compared to his) body.
And when the two of you are not talking about your day, your feelings, or your childhood (he’s pretty silent about that...) you spend your time making out.
Reiner is anything but shy. Oc, he would never do anything you didn’t want, but he was definitely the type of guy who initiated things.
Be prepared to be pushed against the door as soon as it closes behind you. Reiner just loves to feel your skin and his hands would be everywhere. He also enjoys it, when you sit in his lap on the bed, letting out little gasps whenever he kisses your neck or shoulders.
Making-out soon wasn't enough anymore for neither of you - and it was Reiner who initiated the next step:
“Y/N… damn, I really would like to...you know…” His voice was already husky from your make-out session and you felt a blush crawling up your cheeks. “Would...would you want it… Like...can I…?” You almost chuckled at how uncharacteristically shy he was, but you nodded. “Yes, Reiner. Let just take these damn clothes off.” And confident Reiner was back again.
Your first time was neither perfect, but also nor a disappointment. There were awkward moments of course - especially when you saw how well equipped Reiner was. He was pretty eager and would have liked to get down to business as fast as possible, but luckily you suggested to him that...he might want to prepare you a little.
Apart from that, it was really fun and lovely. Reiners long fingers did a good job in preparing you, and despite his own excitement he took his time to make you feel good. At the same time, your fingers were discovering any inch of his body, your lips every inch of skin, and it almost made Reiner lose it. He actually had to stop you at some point.
Eventually, the two of you came together, enjoying each other's presence, devouring eachothers feelings… And even though both of you had already dropped the L-word casually, you felt even closer now. Both of you are deeply in love.
The closer you and Reiner got, the more you got the feeling that Bertl had something against your relationship… You just thought he might be a little jealous at this point, since Annie was no longer with you.
Of course, the good and sweet honeymoon times don’t hold on for forever. Your first mission starts and Reiner hated the thought of not riding by your side. He even thought about discussing with Erwin about it, but you shut him up and reminded him of how many times you had kicked his ass. He is still worried, but got quiet.
When the formation is broken and the titans appear along with the Female Titan, Reiner almost freaks out and you are worried as well. However, you are not with him when he and Jean and Armin meet the Female Titan and your boyfriend almost gets crushed. You end up with Christa, after the soldier next to you got eaten and you had to kill the monster, and the two of you find a lonely horse. You take the horse and continue the way, when three figures appear in the far. And it took you only seconds to recognize the shape of your boyfriend.
You girls spur on the horses and ride towards the boys. Reiner sees you. His eyes start glowing and he says to the other boys:
“I am going to marry her.”
Reiner wraps you in his arms immediately, but you remind him of the current dangerous situation. So after saving the boys, you reunite with the rest of the squad, and storm towards the forest. What happens there is history. You and Reiner stay on one of the trees, and later help with helping the wounded soldiers. It was a massacre again and the morale of the Survey Corps was deeply hurt.
When you are back at the headquarters, you and your friends have a drink on the dead. But Reiner is nowhere to be seen.
Reiner is outside with Bertl, having a serious conversation. The taller boy was furious and worried because of Annie, and tried to remind Reiner of the reason why they were here.
And there it was again. The pain inside of Reiner’s head. “Reiner...what are you doing? You act so strange lately, especially since you are with Y/N.” “What has this to do with my and Y/N’s relationship!?” “You act reckless! Like, I know you took a liking into her, but you are aware that this has no future, are you?” Reiner is taken aback by these words. Why shouldn’t the two of you have a future? “You better watch your mouth, my friend. I don’t see your problem, Y/N and I are happy, and we will stay together until one of us dies while defending humanity from the titans!”
It is at this time that Bertl understands what Marco’s death and the training here on Paradis had done to Reiner. And he becomes even more worried. He wants to say something, but suddenly you appear outside. “Here are you boys! Are you alright?” You hand both of them a bottle of beer and wrap your arm around your boyfriend. Reiner pulls you close and smiles softly. “We were just discussing some stuff, babe, nothing too serious. Let’s go back inside, I just wanna hold you tonight, my cute little saviour.”
The following days are pretty quiet. You, Reiner, and some of the others are send to another headquarters. There is a weird feeling all the time, since the older soldiers are all wearing their 3D Gear while you youngsters are bored as hell. You and Reiner can at least sneak away to have some (sexy time) couple time again.
And suddenly, one afternoon, titans are coming towards the headquarters and you need to flee. Wall Rose has fallen. Reiner seemed rather confused rather than scared, while Bertl has hit a state of disbelief. Maybe both of them are still shocked from what had happened in Trost. At least, this is what you thought.
It is a dangerous ride and Reiner stays by your side all the time, even if you accompany Connie to his home. It is even more dangerous at night, when you cannot see anything. Shills are crawling down your spine at the thought of titans lingering in the dark. In the end, you reach a castle and find shelter there. All of you have no idea what is happening, but at least you got a little rest.
Reiner sits down next by your side and wraps an Arm around you. “Hey, babe, how are you feeling?” “I don’t know, Reiner. Like, what the fuck is happening. Actually I am afraid… we don’t even have our weapons with us…” “Well, at least to have me as your brave knight.” Reiner realizes that he cannot cheer you up with his jokes, so he pulls you closer. “We will survive this, Y/N. I won’t let us die… none of us. We will make it out of here and everything is going to be fine again…” “You really think so? And what after that? Waiting for the next dangers? I don’t even know if we will survive the next few days, Reiner…” “But I do. We will survive, we will safe the day, and we will stay together.”
He looked you deep in the eyes and he was so convinced by his own words that he convinced you as well. “We will stay together,” he repeated, “and have a damn long life to annoy each other. I promise.” This promise is the reassurance you needed.
You lay your head against his shoulder and fell asleep at some point. When you wake up, Hell is breaking upon you. The castle is getting attacked and you and your friends need to defend yourself without any weapons. When Reiner is bitten by a titan and threatens to jump out of a window, you scream a bunch of swear words that would even make Captain Levi blush. Luckily, Connies saves your dumb boyfriend from death and you all make it to the top of the castle, where you see your advisors die brutally. This is it, you think, you are going to die.
But the rest of the events are history. Ymir and the other members of the Survey Squad save the day and you make it out alive. Together with Eren and Co. you arrive on top of the wall. But something feels odd to you. There is a tension in the air which you cannot quite grasp. And when you want to check on Reiner, one of the other scouts steps in your way to treat the little wound you got on your cheek. It feels like...he tries to hold you away from something.
And while the cut at your cheek is stitched up, you glance over at Reiner - and before you kno what is happening, your world breaks apart because at the point where Reiner and his best friend were standing now the Colossal and the Armoured have appeared. You cannot understand. You don’t want to. You are deaf, feel nothing, can just stare.
The next minutes feel like an unreal dream because you could not understand why the people around you screamed that Reiner was the Armoured Titan. Images flicker through your head: You see Reiner on your first day of training, see how both of you slowly became friends and grew older together, how he held your hand and kissed your cheeks, how he wrapped you in his arms after joining the corps, how you spend your first night together.
You just stand and watch as the Armoured jumped down the wall with Eren in his hand, the boy outrageous, calling him a traitor. Traitor. Traitor. Traitor. Traitor.
You do not care about the fight between the titans beneath you. All you can think of is that painful feeling of betrayal that creeps up your body and takes a seat deep in your heart. Reiner. Traitor. Lover. Traitor.
You remember the day of the fall of Wall Maria. How your family was killed by titans, titans that were only able to enter the city because the Colossal and the Armoured had attacked humanity. Reiner. Reiner told you his story, how his village was destroyed as well. Liar. Traitor.
Someone screams your name, but you are still deaf, incapable of understanding what is happening. And then you let the thought into your brain. Allow yourself to understand the impossible.
Reiner is the Armoured Titan.
You are back to reality and the first thing you see is the Colossal only metres away from you. Bertholdt. The pain in your heart is accompanied by something else: Anger. And when you see how the Colossal Titan falls down the wall, knocks out several soldiers and enables the Armoured to make a run along with Bertl, Eren and Ymir.
Not the Armoured. Reiner. Reiner Braun.
This is all it needs. You jump off the wall, finding hold at the OMD Gear of an unconscious scout, who is just hanging there. Your hand starts to bleed while you slip down, but you don’t care. You have no weapon, nothing. But you cannot just stand there. Your feet touch the ground and you start running towards the massive titan who is about to flee. “REINER!!!!”
Your scream is loud, shrill, and full of pain and desperation. And it makes the Armoured turn his head towards you. You don’t try to recognize Reiner’s features in these glowing eyes. You don’t want to.
Your eyes meet for a split second, at least you think so - and then Reiner starts to run. Away from his fake life, away from his fake comrades, away from you. His fake lover.
You sink down on your knees and the deafness surrounds you again.
Reiner's head hurts.

Charlatans and Pills - Part 3/4
<<previous
Three days later he was sitting in the office of Dr. Hans Zoe, his neurologist. A tall grandfather clock in the corner on the left behind their desk ticked lively back and forth and showed shortly before half past twelve. Eren always hated this, but his life mostly consisted of charlatans and pills for the last years.
He never had had a regular job, not that he couldn do one, a lot of people that shared his fate had ordinary jobs until their health wouldn’t let them anymore but Eren could never have settled with something as trivial as an office job. Lastly he was working at a gallery where he had insulted a visitor and got knocked out because of it. Since then he’s been without a job and he actually liked it. That way he didn’t need to beg his principal for getting a day off for the third time this month so he could see his doctor. Without long explanations they didn’t understand it anyway. And with long explanations, they usually didn’t want to keep him as an employee.
Dr. Hans looked intently at the healed up cut on his cheek. “You know Eren, I’ve eventurally cut myself while shaving too”, they said dryly.
Eren couldn’t imagine this to be true when their soft, almost feminime face didn’t show any signs of facial hair.
But Dr. Hans’ face turned stern behind their glasses. “It would be very early for you to develop hyperkinesia. On the other hand…” They took off their glasses, slowly circling the side pieces over their hooked nose and pulled them back on. “it’s not unusual for an inherited Huntington's disease to break out earlier than in the previous generation. Your mother didn’t have a genetically inherited variant, she spontaneously developed the mutation before being born and unknowingly inherited on you. Your mother was 38 when she had her first symptoms, that’s a rather average age. But we always knew, it could be starting earlier for you.”
Eren’s face was without expression. He almost had forgotten his appointment with Dr. Hans but when Mikasa reminded him two days ago he was glad and tense at the same time. Dr. Hans was a good neurologist even if they had an eccentric personality and was married to one of Mikasa’s distant cousins. Without Mikasa he would never have met this doctor who was at his side for almost five years by now.
“How are you, overall?”, Dr. Hans asked and thoughtfully folded their hands under their pointly, smooth chin.
Eren shrugged. “How should I be. The countdown has started. I might be the clam in person by now but ten years from now I’ll probably be nothing more than a slobbering piece of trash that’s on a feeding tube and doesn’t remember its family. Guess what, no thank you, I’m really not wanting that. I’d rather steal Mikasa’s riffle and bang a bullet through my skull.”
Dr. Hans’ eyes widened behind their thick glasses. “Eren! What are you talking about? I must not hear things like that in here or I have to -”
The grandfather clock chimed the half hour and swallowed their words.
Dr. Hans sighed desperately. “Eren, I know it’s not easy for you. I can hardly imagine the psychical pressure but think about everyone who’s loving you and who’s by your side. They wouldn’t want you to throw away the rest of your life as easily.”
Eren still looked at them stoically, trying for an answer, that would satisfy them.
But before anything came to his mind, the door to the office opened without further knocking. “You still got a patient, Hansi?”, a chilly, dark voice asked. “It’s half past twelve, we’ve got a table reserved. Hurry up.”
Dr. Hans threw a smile at the intruder. “I’ll be right with you, Levi. It’s Eren, you probably remember him, Mikasa’s boyfriend. Go and have a cup of tea with Moblit, yeah?”
Eren also threw a hasty glance over his shoulder and saw a well below average sized man standing under the door frame.
“They’ll never give us another table, if we’re coming too late for lunch time, but that’s your loss. I hope Moblit finally has learned to pour a good black tea. Say Mikasa hi from me.” Without further looking at Eren or Dr. Hans, Levi let the heavy door fall shut behind him.
“I’m glad to have him”, Dr. Hans sighed and smiled mildly. “I would never get out of here without him.” But with a stern glance towards Eren they turned back into his worrying doctor. “Listen, I won’t give you a prescription against hyperkinesia, that would be way too early. They only hit needlessly hard on your already gloomy personality. You’ll be good and keep taking you antidepressiva and -” They started scribbling on their pad. “I’ll make it your constraint to go see a psychotherapist. At least once, better twice a week. You know where to find appropriate help, I know he offered you to join his group several times already. I’ll make talk therapy a constraint or else I’ll see what you just said is a reason to make you go to a mental hospital until you’re less suicidal!” They ripped a sheet off teir pad and pulled it towards Eren. It was a letter of referral for a psychologist.
Eren took the letter between two fingers, nobody really could read what they’ve scrawled on it. “All right Doctor”, he murmured impatiently. “I’ll go there. But I can see no use in it, I’ve made up my mind a long time ago.”
Dr. Hans swallowed audibly. “Cut the crap, Eren, you still got plenty of time. I hope your brother can put some reasoning back into you.”

Romantic? More Like NO [Levi | Reader]
Prequel: Fairy Tale NOT Like
Tumblr media
"Levi, I really am irritated right now." Hearing her voice from the female showers made him just as irritated because she might’ve been pretty but she had no tact and it was too early for him to get another headache.
"As if I don't fucking know that already. I'm irritated, too." He was leaning on the wall next to the door and leaning slightly to the side would expose her whole body to his eyes but it was a thing he - one, shouldn’t do and two, wasn’t interested in doing. He’d be lucky if Mikasa Ackerman didn’t show up for her early shower because if he were to be seen waiting on a grown-ass unknown woman by the door, he’d quickly go from Humanity’s Strongest Soldier to Humanity’s Biggest Pervert.
"You're not the one having to play a ninja around an army's headquarters." She snapped from the inside.
"Yes, but I'm the one who has to play the stupid ninja’s bodyguard around the headquarters of the army I'm supposed to be second-in-command in." He hissed in return, listening to the slowly decreasing sound of water hitting the floor.
"Just tell me one thing." The warmth was first, then he turned his head and the tip of his nose almost bumped into hers. Pupils dilating in surprise, his orbs followed the droplets rolling over her skin but his corssed arms stood ridig as if glued to his chest. "What am I going to wear now?" Her sweet voice was laced with fake innocence but her lips wore a small smirk. He snorted but kept quiet. "You're not going to give me any of your clothes, are you now?"
The situation was so messed up right now.
After he’d brought her the coffee, Levi had hastened to point out her stink and immediately after force her into the showers, dismissing her concerns on what she’d wear afterwards by telling her he had a plan. He, in actual fact, had not even an inkling of a plan. Every option he could think of was either humiliating, incriminating or straight-up perverted.
If he gave her his clothes and they were seen together, there would be assumptions. Her dress was already with the piles of laundry that would be washed today, stealing somebody else’s clothes was plain ridiculous, asking another female cadet for an outfit would lead to even more assumptions and making her sneak around the HQ in nothing but a towel was a scene out of a book Hanji would write. He considered finding clothes for her on his own but leaving her alone was too risky. And since the showers would start filling up soon, he had no choice but to take her with him.
"You're going to wear something. Follow me and be quiet." He ordered, heading down the hallway and looking around every time a sound erupted from a room. It could’ve been a snore, the shuffle of clothes or a blanket - it didn’t matter because Levi was paranoid. Then his heel made an unstable plank creak in the silent space and he mentally shat himself.
He was supposed to be a soldier, a former thug, flexibe and agile, and strong, but no--- he couldn’t even walk without making the floor creak like it would break. He held back a groan and resumed walking only to feel something pulling him back by the wrist. (Y/N)’s determined expression faced him the moment he turned back. He awaited her words with a thinning patience. They were making progress and she just had to stop him for God knows what.
"You do know that even if people see us together they wouldn't speak, right?" Her question - naive, stupid and anything but reasonable, made him want to facepalm against the wall.
"And how does that help us?” He frowned. They were so close to the staircase. Why did she have to stop and ask stupid questions?
"All I'm saying is you can make anybody who sees us keep their mouth shut.” She reasoned, making his brow twitch in annoyance. His voice, however, managed to stay quiet.
"It's not that easy."
"Because they’d talk about it behind your back?"
"This isn't even a---" His voice grew in volume as his patience ran out but his incoming outburst was quickly cut off by a muffled voice coming from behind the door they were standing next to.
"Armin, did you hear that?"
"Fucking shit." Levi cursed under his breath, exchanging a panicked look with (Y/N). That was Jean Kirstein’s voice. His brain went into overdrive  - they couldn’t run up the stairs, couldn’t wait to be caught here either.
He grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the other side of the narrow hallway into the first room he saw, which was seemingly the last one in row. He hastily opened the door, gripping (Y/N) and feeling his heart on its way to burst. He wouldn’t allow to be caught with a half-naked woman by his own squad.
He heard her call his name as the door was shut - she was pressed against the wall, feeling her towel slip. She held her breath and the fabric fell to the floor, except she couldn’t pick it up since one of her hands was captive and the other was the only thing holding her upright and quiet. The raven-haired man was staring at the door but he would look at her sooner or later.
"I think I heard someone." Armin's voice sounded as he exited the room and looked around, three pairs of footsteps following close behind. (Y/N) couldn’t tell Levi not to turn - a whisper could ruin everything. So she’d keep quiet because the raven seeing her naked in the dark was better than them being found.
"Berthold, do you see anyone?" A masculine voice was heard, one that Levi recognised as Reiner Braun's.
"It's too early for this Reiner." Berthold stated quietly, probably trying not to wake the other cadets.
"I bet I heard someone, guys." Jean's voice sounded next and Levi knew he was fucking doomed. Four damn cadets were going to find him in a closet with a half-naked woman - great.
"Maybe the girls were just heading to the shower."
Levi turned around and his eyes widened. He could hear (Y/N) gulp, then he drew a sharp breath and bit back every vocal reaction which came to mind.
"Maybe we can get to see Mikasa today."
Realising that he’d been stopping her from covering herself, the male let go of her wrist and watched her shakily cover her breasts as her free hand began blindly searching for her towel.
"As if. Come on, Jean. If she doesn't kill you, Eren will try."
The cadets’ conversation was white noise to his ears, his eyes couldn’t leave (Y/N)’s body and his ears could only hear his blood rushing around his body at the sight.
"And maybe after that Corporal Levi will end you completely."
He caught the sound of his name but paid no attention to it, fixed on the woman who finally found the towel and attempted to hide herself. Only then did it occur to him his gaze brought her discomfort. He faced the other way quickly, momentarily stunned by his own rudeness.
"Why would the Corporal even care?"
He heard an almost audible sigh come from her lips once she was covered so he turned, watching her hands grip the upper part of the towel as her gaze avoided his eyes at all cost. Her previous confidence was nowhere to be found.
"He is in charge of Eren after all. If Eren ends up getting hurt during the fight, both the Corporal and Mikasa will beat you up. He's obliged to do it, while Mikasa..."
"Is Mikasa."
"Anyways, let's stop talking about this. Do you know the time?"
"We have time before breakfast."
"But the Corporal will punish us if we end up sleeping in."
"I’m with Berthold, let's go for the showers."
"No, we better sleep a little more."
He made a step in her direction, to which she tried to retract and her foot hit something which then dropped to the side with a loud clangour. Fucking bucket. (Y/N) looked at Levi like a deer in headlights and he, despite his stoic persona, related the same panic she did. He cursed under his breath.
"Did you all hear that?" Jean's startled voice reached their ears as they stood motionless as possible in the closet, fearful of doing as much as breathing.
"Is there an intruder?"
"Jean, come on. Who would sneak into the headquarters? They must be crazy or stupid. The Commander would make Corporal kill them or something." Reiner said and (Y/N) eyed Levi.
"Not knowing the Corporal and being stupid are vastly different - one is called being uninformed." Jean argued, much to Reiner’s dismay.
"And the other is called being crazy. Now let's just go to the showers."
(Y/N) was about to stifle a giggle when Levi’s reflexes acted - knowing when something wouldn’t go as planned. His hand covered her mouth and she held in a yelp as her balance was knocked off and her back hit the wall with a thud.
"Okay, I definitely heard that one! Is someone pranking us?" Jean's voice grew in pitch and volume, meaning he was approaching the closet.
"Jean, what’s all the fuss about?" Another voice (Y/N) didn’t recognise joined the conversation, to which she glanced at Levi in confusion, mouth still covered by his cold hand.
"The suicidal bastard was freed from his cell." Jean's mocking remark almost made (Y/N) snort.
"Hanji came to unlock me for showers and breakfast." The other voice responded just when (Y/N) picked up the unmistakable speech of her hyperactive friend. She felt herself tensing alongside Levi.
"Hello, kiddos! What's up?" Hanji greeted, to which Jean had an immediate reply.
"I heard a sound---"
"Jean is being delusional." Reiner cut off, setting the other boy off.
"No, I definitely heard something! Someone is sneaking around!"
"Who do you think is sneaking around the headquarters?" Hanji questioned curiously, clearly doubting the cadet’s accusations.
"I don't know! Probably a cadet who went to town. They do it often." Jean tried to reason with Hanji and the others, but they weren't ready to accept his seemingly delusional point of view yet.
"I know people do that, Jean. I do it to meet up with (Y/N) and the plank in front of Erwin’s office always creaks." The mad scientist complained and Levi made a mental note about Hanji sneaking out. And about the creaky plank. Armin and Eren went on to ask who (Y/N) was, which just prompted Hanji to rant. “An old friend of mine. She's extremely sweet! And such an eye-candy! Levi couldn't get his eyes off her yesterday!"
Levi couldn't get his eyes off her now either, but he wasn't going to let that information become public knowledge. He was sure she’d sensed it too - the sexual tension drowned by the panic and anticipation they felt.
"Corporal couldn't what?" Eren sputtered, almost choking in shock.
"What was Corporal Levi doing with (Y/N) yesterday?" Armin's voice rang, announcing to (Y/N) and Levi the erasure of Hanji’s brain-to-mouth filter.
"Oh, we went to that ball Eren was whining about! It was fun, Levi took (Y/N) as his escort, he had a suit, flowers and everything!" Levi would’ve facepalmed if possible, whereas (Y/N)’s discomfort grew to the point she contemplated giving his handsome face a slap and walking out of the closet. It would ruin only his reputation either way - but that was the problem.
The whole Survey Corps would suffer if their most valuable member was caught breaking the rules. His authority normally prevented people from badmouthing him but even that wouldn’t save him if rumours of him having a lover got out. It was something (Y/N) couldn’t allow - besides being interesting to her, he was also willing to land her a job.
"And what happened then?" The question derailed her train of thought and she was back in the dark closet, painfully pressed against the wall. She tried to change that by moving just a little and that was when the old forgotten bucket came back into play.
"Oh, well, Levi---"
(Y/N) gasped as her mouth was released and her foot slipped on the bucket - then Levi’s fast reflexes saved them a very painful fall by pushing their bodies back against the wall, except it cost them their low profile.
"Okay, that's it! Now everyone heard that one, right?!" Jean's voice echoed as the others shuffled about.
"You weren't lying after all." Hanji’s statement was heard over the shameful admittances of the other cadets confirming they’d finally heard it themselves.
"Is there someone... in that closet?" The words that exited Berthold's mouth made (Y/N)'s eyes fill with fear. Levi’s composure was also slowly starting to leave him.
"You know the only way to understand."
"Rock, paper, scissors - loser opens the door?"
Besides his composure, his self-respect evaporated at his own squad’s stupidity. He felt more humiliated listening to their problem-solving tactics than imagining himself getting caught with a half-naked woman in a closet. A few seconds of silence later, a small sigh left somebody’s lips, to which the duo in the closet exchanged worried glances.
"Armin, go for it." A voice was heard and said blond sighed again before asking:
"Why do I even have to---"
"Just do it." Jean insisted and the others hummed in agreement.
"You won't die."
"On three." Hanji announced.
Armin’s steps approaching the closet were heard. (Y/N) felt her heart was about to burst and Levi could already picture decades of reputation crumbling to the ground. Years of being a cold-hearted ass with a deadpan, years of fear and respect and not an ounce of regret.
"One..."
The woman met his gaze, feeling his fingers twitch in the slighest over her waist. She mouthed a small apology and he shook his head. He wanted to blame her for everything but he couldn’t stoop that low.
"Two..."
Her fingers were digging into his rigid shoulders when he closed his eyes. He didn’t want to look.
"... three!"
There was the opening of a door. Nobody was saying anything---
Thud.
Crash!
Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click.
"Shit! That scared me." Jean's voice was just as muffled. Levi slowly opened his eyes to witness the confusion on (Y/N)’s face in the dark.
"It was just a racoon." At Armin’s statement, both their heads whipped back to look at the closed door with wide eyes.
"Mystery solved. At least Jean hasn't gone delusional yet." Hanji mocked cordially, making said boy give an exclamation of indignation. Everybody else was chuckling and (Y/N) and Levi hadn’t begun getting over their shock.
"Now let's go to the showers."
"Okay, okay."
"I'm going to visit Erwin. See you at breakfast, kiddos!" Hanji was off, her footsteps fading up the stairs.
"How did that racoon even get in there?" The boys discussed, voices dropping.
"I don't have an idea..."
Once their footsteps had faded down the hallway, Levi let go of (Y/N), deciding it was safe for them to go out. He dusted himself off and slowly opened the door.
"That was a close call." (Y/N)'s words made him sigh as they slipped back into the empty hallway. He noticed her voice had a sweet ring to it when she was nervous.
"Tell me about it." He snorted and observed the open door of the other closet, right next to their hiding spot.
"I'm sorry about that." Her apology was mumbled in mild shame as he clicked his tongue.
"I raised my voice. Whatever, let's just go." She followed him up the stairs, noting their luck and making him hum along in agreement - it was something he’d never know had made her knees feel like jelly. To her next question of what they would do now, he had an answer at the ready. "I'm bringing you to my office. We dress you up and send you off to town." There was a pause on her end, then a ‘why’ Levi considered rather stupid. "Because you can't stay here."
"Did you forget why you brought me here yesterday?" Her inquiry made him frown but it was just so it wouldn’t betray his ‘oh shit’ face. "Maybe because I had no home at the time?" She pressed further, making him curse as he turned to face her. “You did forget.” Her blunt statement made him snort, rolling his eyes and deciding to play it cool.
"And what of that?" He asked, annoyed and with his arms crossed.
"Well, it intervenes with your plan. And you promised me a job. I can find myself a place to stay but it won’t happen fast, so I’m sorry for being insolent but I’m going to hold you to your word.” Hands on her hips, she was glaring and he avoided looking anywhere but her eyes. She was right and he knew it.
"Let's just go to my office. Discussing this in the middle of the hallway is no good." He commented with a click of his tongue, watching her lips purse as her eyes narrowed. However, she still complied. They passed Erwin’s office, tactfully avoiding the creaky plank and soundlessly slipping in his office. A sigh left his lips as he locked the door.
"Now. You’ll need a plan." (Y/N)'s serious voice helped him shake off the relief he felt. He rolled his eyes, annoyance brimming. He wanted to avoid thinking of a new plan, and the complications that would surely come with it.
"You still need clothes, so we'll find you some. And after that...” He trailed off, making her eyebrow quirk as she waited for his brain to think of the best course of action. “I suppose I’ve got only one choice.” He concluded with a sigh, leaning back against his desk and contemplating. Rumours could spread but it was the only way to keep his word whilst creating the least misunderstandings. “I have to introduce you to everybody.”
Tumblr media
"Ready?"
"Never been, never going to be. Let's just do this." Her statement evoked a snort from him as he suppressed the chuckle at the back of his throat. She seemed more nervous than him and it was amusing to say the least. Still, he held out on giving her advice on how to fix it because something told him she wouldn’t manage either way.
The raven-haired male entered the mess hall and she walked at his side; suddenly there were gazes on them, on the baggy clothes she wore that kind of looked to be his size, and whispers slithering round the room. He ignored everything and approached his squad’s table, sitting down and watching before him his usual cup of tea whilst his squad stared at him in bewilderment.
"Uh, Corporal Levi... who is she?" Eren’s hesitant question made Levi glare at the brunet - he was a tad bit anxious but he needn’t admonish his subordinates verbally because of it.
"I'm a friend of Levi's. (Y/N), nice to meet you all." The woman flashed them a smile and voiced a casual introduction before Levi could even begin to speak. He wouldn’t, however, get angry at her, she seemed to be doing well.
"Corporal, I made your tea, it's a bit cold, but---"
"It's fine, Eren." Levi cut him off, taking a sip from mentioned beverage and sighing. So far so good. He briefly glanced at the superiors’ table where he usually sat, finding his Commander’s insistent gaze on him. He wanted to avoid everybody who knew (Y/N) but an encounter was inevitable so he was only stalling even though he was well aware Hanji had already seen them walk in and had probably informed Erwin and Mike of their presence.
"So, Corporal, how did the ball go yesterday?" Mikasa asked boredly while Eren pouted on her left, disappointed still that he hadn’t been invited. Levi and (Y/N) exchanged an alarmed look but neither gave out their concern. The Corporal looked back at his squad: Jean and Eren were impatient to hear his answer, Mikasa was quiet as per usual, Armin was silently observing, Connie and Sasha were gorging on their food and Ymir and Christa were whispering of other topics.
"Not that it's your business but it was shitty. Eren, you can stop whining about not getting invited, it wasn’t worth it either way." The raven took a sip from his cup, watching the four reactions his words caused. Eren’s face dropped as he dismissed his frustration on the matter, Mikasa visibly became suspicious and Armin’s gaze grew uneasy due to the fact he might’ve already pieced everything together and, finally, (Y/N) snorted with laughter and coughed to cover it up. “What seems to be so funny?” Levi faced her with a scowl.
“That was a complete lie, sir. You almost got drunk, you watched an eating contest and you were hit on multiple times by gorgeous noble ladies. I'm afraid you liked your night out. " (Y/N) explained with a smirk, making Jean and Eren gape as Mikasa and Armin's eyebrows raised to the tops of their foreheads. He glared at (Y/N), noting how she’d omitted to mention herself during the story she told - it was something that ticked him off. And he had no idea why.
"Not like you're one to talk - you did get drunk, you fainted, you danced terribly and about half the males in the hall were undressing you with their eyes." He retorted and she looked at him, visibly surprised, while his subordinates curiously observed their exchange.
"Was that a subtle compliment or just a horrible attempt at an insult?" She asked with a terribly attractive smirk, which wasn't good for his moody insides as of lately. His stomach did loops at random ever since he met her, his heart would sometimes skip a beat and his skin would get irritatingly itchy when she touched him. He couldn’t go on to think normally, an image of her smile always had to interrupt him and it was fucking annoying - this whole thing.
"Neither - it's summing up your night there." He clicked his tongue and watched her smile - exactly the thing he didn’t need after the kind of inner monologue he had.
"Whatever it is, I don't mind it. Although I must thank you for making my night so nice." She added at the end, making his eyes narrow. (Y/N) bit her bottom lip to stop herself from grinning, but it was inevitable and the fact she tried to hide it put Levi at a loss for words. Staring at her face and her eyes there was hardly anything for him to think besides:
Fuck, I think I want to kiss this woman right now. His eyes widened at the notion and his rational mind slapped him so hard he suppressed the urge to turn his head to the side in reality. Instead, he only shook it and cursed himself multiple times while sipping on his tea.
"I've done nothing deserving of your gratitude." Levi mumbled in a cold voice once having calmed down while (Y/N) only smiled at him, this time without saying anything.
He wondered whether he’d actually taken a liking to a woman he met just the night before. He knew nothing of her yet he couldn’t simply ignore her like he usually would - he wanted to learn a bit more. He didn’t think himself a naive fool as to let her influence him to this extent - but then again she couldn’t be a witch either. Had it been any other woman, things would’ve been different - and then it clicked. Things were like this because it was her, because she affected him and because she interfered with how he usually thought and acted. He didn’t know why but one thing was clear and it was something he’d never admit to himself, Hanji, (Y/N), Erwin or anybody else. He’d die before saying it out loud.
"Corporal is everything alright?" Jean Kirstein's voice snapped him out of his thoughts and softened his expression. Levi looked up with a sigh.
"I have something to do." Groaning inwardly, he pushed himself off the bench and stood up, meeting (Y/N)’s worried gaze and hastening to ease her concern. "You stay here and chat with them or whatever. I'll be back." He headed towards Hanji, Erwin and Mike. Before doing anything else, he had to distance himself from (Y/N) and cease all contact with her after his part of the deal was done. For that to happen, he had to talk to his Commander. He’d promised her a job and, under the man who’d loved her or not, he’d get it for her.
Tumblr media
"You're in." He stated coldly with crossed arms.
"I am?" She was literally beaming.
"I already said it, idiot. Are you fucking deaf?" He snapped but her grin was still and so was her posture.
"This is great! Now I get to spend time with my friends, I have a job and a home. Thank you so much.” (Y/N) piped excitedly and he only snorted.
"Anyway, until we find a free room for you you’ll be sharing with somebody.” He stated absentmindedly, feeling just a bit ticked off on this particular topic. Not that he had a reason to feel irritation because he’d known her for a day and she didn’t mean anything to him. That was how things should’ve been.
"Hanji?" (Y/N) guessed as she took a seat in the chair in front of his desk and he looked at the papers before him, pretending to read and trying his hardest not to pay attention to her. He reasoned why she wouldn’t be staying with Hanji and she went on to ask if it would be him she’d share a room with. He almost let out a snort and answered her question with a cold ‘no’. “Then who?” She pressed curiously, making him grit his teeth. He didn’t understand what he was so angry with. Maybe himself.
"Erwin."
"You're kidding me." She blurted out, to which he glared at her. She didn't seem overjoyed by the fact she was about to spend an unknown period of time with the handsome, tall and successful man that had feelings for her, instead she looked confused.
"Do I look like I enjoy joking around?" His questioned was a hiss and his eyes were cold and unforgiving. Her brows twitched.
"But Erwin’s the Commander, it’ll be troublesome for me to stay with him." (Y/N) reasoned, (e/c) hues gleaming as she spoke.
"He volunteered to take you in. Guess his feelings aren’t entirely gone." Levi commented after giving a spiteful click of the tongue, making (Y/N)'s eyes narrow at his visage.
"And how do you feel about that?" She inquired curiously, almost as if seeking confirmation on a topic she knew the answer to. The question ticked him off.
"What does that have to do with me?" He was playing unemotional and oblivious - he knew it had a little if not a lot to do with him but he refused to admit it. She shrugged, stating she’d just asked, and, without thinking at all, he got ahead of himself. "It doesn't make me feel anything. Did you expect me to argue with my Commander over you? Assert myself as the person who shelters you? If anything, I feel relieved to finally get you off my case. Whatever fantasies you might be harbouring, the reality is that I escorted you to a ball because I needed somebody and now you may go next door to let Erwin instruct you on your job."
Levi's scowl may have been terribly scary, but on the inside, he was on the verge of hitting himself because of how unreasonably rude he was being to a woman he thought he felt something for. (Y/N)'s reaction wasn't one of shock, nor one of heartbreak - it was one of deep indifference. And indifference was a mask he used all too often to let himself be fooled by it. She was offended and hurt as she stood up and headed to the door, then, with her hand on the doorknob, she turned her eyes to him.
"Just for the record - I expected nothing from you and I harbour no fantasies, you're right when you say Erwin still has feelings for me, but you're wrong when you say you’re impartial. Even if you don't like me, I have to say I took quite the liking to you." He could almost hear how her voice broke at the last word. "I’m just sorry I won’t have the chance to say it to your face as a woman instead of a stupid peasant."
The door closed after her, leaving behind the voice which had betrayed her upon the word ‘peasant’. If he’d known more about her, he would’ve realised how it hurt her to say it because that’s what she’d been her whole life - a faceless nameless stupid peasant. But he didn’t know. He leaned back in his chair after realising he’d tensed with the intention to stand and go after her. Shoulders slumping, he groaned and closed his eyes at the thought of having made her cry. He was getting a headache.
"A lovers quarrel a day after your first meeting. Fucking way to go." He praised himself mockingly and wished to endure the worst headache in existence if it would give him the chance to fix this situation. It was an unrealistic wish but he wanted it nonetheless. He tried beating it into his head that he’d known her for a day but he wanted to see her smile again and it was a pity he probably never would.
He started this conversation so angry and ended it so regretful that it was a pitiful thing to watch.
Tumblr media
"Is this your way of saying 'sorry'?" She asked with disbelief as he looked at her with pleading eyes.
"You could say so." He nodded weakly and she snorted.
"It's not romantic at all." She placed her hands on her hips and his brows furrowed as he glared at her.
"Is it supposed to be?" He inquired and she smirked slightly. He hadn’t realised how much he missed that - it had been a goddamn month since it had been directed to him last.
"Of course, after all the indirect insults you threw at me."
"If it makes you feel better if I was still a thug, I'd want to fuck you senselessly." His deadpan statement was an attempt at brightening the mood and it brought him so much more when she began laughing - a month since he’d heard that one too.
"Enough of a compensation. But I don’t get why before is different from now since you’re the same person." Her objection made his eyes narrow - of course they weren’t much different in nature but he couldn’t let himself rush into something he hadn’t had ever. He didn’t need love and support - he’d been fine without them until now. Sex was another thing he could get but preferred not to because she, unlike him, probably connected it to something more emotional.
"I have boundaries now and I’m more self-conscious." She snorted with laughter once more, though he would be surprised to hear why.
"Of what - the perfect body, the flawless face, the smooth voice or the heart of gold under all the piled-up bad experience?" Her mocking question made it hard for him to distinguish whether she’d meant to tease or compliment him. Maybe both - it sounded like her.
"Of the fact I’m far from flawless yet I'm supposed to be a role model to young cadets. Of the fact I fight and promote that others die as they fight. Of the fact I’m worshipped by kids who don’t really know me, kids I’ll probably outlive." His voice was low and deep, tired, morose. Silence followed. Then (Y/N) nudged his shoulder and he watched her empathetic smile. She couldn’t say anything to make him feel better. "Does this mean you accept my apology?"
"Of course. Who can resist when it’s obvious you’re trying so hard?" (Y/N) chuckled when the raven glared at her but quickly calmed down, only to glance shyly at the ground right after. "I'm sorry, too. I rushed to snap back at you."
"You've nothing to apologise for, I deserved it.” He countered, making her blush slightly before she patted his shoulder with a smile.
"Since we're going to be seeing each other often, let's talk when something like this happens again, alright?" Levi rolled his eyes before nodding - way nonchalant than the furious ‘yes’ pushing at his lips. The small ‘fine’ he uttered earned him one of her grins. His stomach took a turn. He focused on his heartbeat - either it hadn’t skipped or he’d been lucky enough not to have heard it. "But next time be a bit more romantic." She joked whilst getting up, to which he only glared.
"Romantic? More like no thanks. I’m not romantic and will not attempt to become romantic." He stated coldly as they walked out the mess hall and headed towards their respective rooms.
"I can teach you." She suggested with a small shrug and he snorted at her.
"As if you're any better."
"You don't have a way of knowing. I may just be a hidden romantic." (Y/N) flashed him yet another terribly attractive smirk and it would've been a lie to say it didn’t make his heart beat faster but he was adamant not to admit it.
"Or I may just be the princess of the walls." He teased, his voice rid of all emotion. The woman next to him was still able to sense his sarcasm. He rolled his eyes and she slapped his shoulder playfully, laughing and feigning offence - it ended in vain. Maybe he could learn to accept the fact he regarded her in such a way after a few months. Just a few. And maybe if he got the chance he’d tell her too. Or not. He was fine with just watching her smile and , by god, if somebody took that from him he would kill to get it back.
Such determination was so him in spite of the topic, he never understood how all of this became so natural to the point it happened every day.

Chapter 7: Preparation
It was dark with a clear sky as the stars twinkle bright. A figure was walking down the streets to enter a late night pub. The stranger roamed his eyes to find his fellow colleagues who were gathered around the table having a drink and chatting.
He walked towards them then greeted them. “Good evening gentlemen. What have I missed?” The stranger chuckled as he sat down to join in the conversation.
“Ah Ricky, we were just talking about what had happened at the Court Hall. Apparently, Captain Levi and the prisoner are related. Who would have thought?! Nobody knows anything about the Captain of the Survey Corps. Not even his squad. That man is a crazy loner. A cousin of mine said he’s too good when it comes slaughtering Titans.” Another man spoke then took a sip of ale.
Ricky or Richard Adams was interested in what his friend said. He didn’t go to the trial. The man was occupied with important missions from his higher ups. “Who is this prisoner the Military police and Survey Corps captured?”
“He’s some foreigner from a country that’s across the ocean. What was his name? I think William Miles.” One of the men intervene the conversation.
William Miles. The Mentor Assassin? Why is he here? Huh, this is trouble. Maybe, the templars already begin their next phase. So there must be assassins roaming in the Paradis Isle. Ricky had joined the Templar Order five years ago. The Order had been here longer since King Karl Fritz came to this island and built the Walls to protect the Eldians here from the rest of the world. After all, they encourage the king to move here. This side of the world was untouched by Assassins. Looks like they finally came here to get rid of Templars, but the brotherhoods are small in numbers while the Order are growing bigger and stronger.
“I see. It’s such a shame I wasn’t there to witness.” Ricky glanced at the other man.
Richard Adams stayed for a while with his friends then he decided to leave to attend a different meeting. His hat covered his eyes so no one would recognize him. He stopped and double checked in case he was not being followed. He knocked in a certain code on the wooden door. The door opened enough for a man in his 40s to peak out. “Show me the mark of Cain.” Ricky pulls out a red cross symbol attached to a chain on his belt. The door man nodded and opened the door wide. “Welcome, my friend.”
Ricky smiled and entered the building. He followed the other templar to a dining room with several members seated already. He took his usual place to sit. Not long, their leader arrived and sat at the head of the table. His hood was covered until he removed to reveal light brown hair and pierce blue eyes. The leader looked like in his early 20’s.
“Hello gentleman, as you can see the Mentor Assassin William Miles has come to this island. We, templars, must be on our guard. There will be other assassins since Mr. Miles doesn't come alone. The Grandmaster blessed me to take charge, the Paradis Isle Order of Templars. Ever since the Marleyans sent their Titan shifters to invade here, we lost control; but don’t worry. We’ll take it back before the assassin’s take over. I will make sure they are annihilated once I become king by marrying the bastard queen.” The blue eyed man smirked.
The rest of the Templars cheered their leader. “Yes Lord Evans, we’re with you all the way!” One of the men said.
“But one of my intel's told me some interesting news. Her Majesty and Levi Ackerman are secretly married. Plus, Captain Ackerman is the grandson of Mentor Miles. He is known to be a bloodlust monster on the battlefield. The more reason it’s best to execute him. The Ackerman bloodline is dangerous. I can’t believe they are still alive and producing like varmints.” Lord Evans said with a venomous tone. His ancestor, King Karl Fritz who founded House Reiss, started the persecution of the Ackerman and the Azumabito clans that resided within the Walls.
“My lord, would it be best to have Levi Ackerman as our Subject 18. His DNA is something that Abstergo Industries would want to collect data. He shares the same ancestry of Desmond Miles. We can look further on the real secret of the creation of the Ackermans. We’ll use it to make an army for global power.”  A brown haired man with dark eyes name, Patrick Summers speaks out.
“Hmm, if the grandmaster accepts this idea then I don’t see why not, but after we’re done using him; I will personally kill him.” Nathaniel wants to see Levi dead, but he’s a logical man and what his brethren points out is Ackerman's ancestry. With time and patience, he’ll get what he wants.
“Even though the company has Desmond’s infant bastard son, the baby is not old enough to begin to collect data from the animus. Ackerman is a perfect candidate to continue exploring Miles' bloodline.” Patrick resumed his explanation when he observed the way his leader’s expression gives off a displeasing look. Lord Evans may be logical, but only when he isn’t blind with his emotions and arrogance.
Patrick is an ambitious man that came from nothing. He joined the Templars for making a world a better place for people like him who are poor with no access to necessary things to live comfortably. People like Lord Evans are full of greed. The dark eyed templar will do whatever it takes to get to the top of the ranks.
Lord Evans stared at Patrick with annoyance while the rest of the men mumbles and agrees with what Patrick said. Both men never get along, they always one up each other of every opportunity comes towards them. Nate will make sure nobody like Patrick outran him.
“Gentlemen, Phase two is activated. This meeting is dismissed” Nate gets up and begins to walk out of the small room with his personal assistance.
“Sir, pardon me for being bold, but are you really going to tell the Grandmaster?” Nate’s assistant, Gilbert, whispers low. As the two men are now out into the dark street of Mitras, the nobleman turns to his assistant. “No, the grandmaster doesn’t need to know about that street rat connection to the mentor assassin. Gilbert, you have been loyal to me for many years. Can I trust you enough to do this mission for me?” Gilbert kneel on his knee to show his fealty to his lord. “Of course, my lord. You can trust me with any mission you give me. I’m always loyal to you until I draw my last breath.” He said.
“Only to me, right?” Lord Evans wants to be sure before giving the mission to his loyal servant and assistant.
“Yes my lord. Only to you forever.” Gilbert’s voice became soft and blushes. Nathaniel looks around to make sure no one is able to see. He helped Gilbert up to have him look into his eyes.
“Good because it will break my heart if you betray me, Gilly.” He grips gently on Gilbert’s chin to kiss his lips.
“I will never betray you, Nate.” Gilbert has a determined look to show his lover of his loyalty. “So who is it you want me to kill? I knew you too well. Is it Patrick Summers?”
“Summers does get on my nerves, but it’s not him. I’ll give you more information at home.” Both Lord Evans and Gilbert walk through the dark, quiet streets to get to home.
Meanwhile in Marley
A group of soldiers are doing their late night routine to prepare for the war against Paradis Isle or what they call the Devil’s Island.
The sounds of rifle guns and marching boots echo the fields of the military base. A dark haired man with rough facial features. His eyes are glancing at the marching soldiers.
“Sir, our soldiers look ready for the war.” Another man smirks from seeing how sharp and focused the Marleyan army looks.
“Yes, they are ready. We just need to be patient for the Commander-in-chief to signal us to invade Paradis.” The General observed his troops with pride. “Is the Warrior unit ready for the invasion?”
“I believe so, General Theo Magath. Would you like me to send a message to Deputy Chief Braun of the process of the Warrior Unit?” The Lieutenant suggested to the general.
“Yes, we need to be perfect and sharp. Those devil spawns are aware of us and the war that’s coming to them. It’s best to give a surprise invasion.” General Magath said. The lieutenant went to do as he was told.
On the other side of the base where the Eldian Units reside, Reiner Braun the Deputy Chief of the Warrior Unit is occupied writing a letter to his mother.
A knock on the door stops him writing. He looks up to see an Eldian comrade handing him a note. The Armored Titan grabs the note then reads it. He begins to reply on the paper. Once he’s done, Reiner gives back the note to the same messenger. When the messenger leaves, Reiner thinks about his former friends and comrades from Paradis Isle.
Soon things will get ugly when he comes face to face with them.
Paradis Isle
At the Headquarters of the Survey Corps, the Mess Hall is full of soldiers eating and chatting with their comrades. The Levi’s squad are huddled in their table whispering each other.
“You know the Captain and Historia didn’t explain how they became...you know.” Jean looks around then faces back at his friends. “Together and married.” His tone is low for only his friends to hear.
Armin stops eating his hot meal to speak. “Jean, it’s best we don’t bring it up here. Remember, this is supposed to keep hidden from everyone.”
“We can ask them when Captain Levi takes us to the palace later.” Sasha said while eating her breakfast. For years the gang learned to understand what Sasha said with her mouth full whenever she eats.
Everyone nods in agreement. “Yeah, Sasha is right. We can ask them later.” Jean said. He glanced at Armin who avoided his stare from being nervous he knew the relationship between Historia and Levi. After all Armin was one of the witnesses for the captain and the queen’s wedding.
While the members of Levi’s squad are eating and chatting, on the other side of the Mess Hall; the two figures who are sitting on the same table are having their own conversation.
“Wait? There are cities with lights everywhere?!” Hange looks amazed at what William said.
“Yes, it's common in majority places even towns have them.” The only thing that amaze Will was this island being isolated to the world for centuries and these people survived on medieval-like technologies.
“Yeah well, not here. We are way behind. So what else does your city have?” Her tone sounds like an excited child that can’t wait to hear good news.
“Maybe instead of telling you about New York City, I can take you to show what it looks like and the sites to see.” Again, Will can’t help it to flirt at this extraordinary woman in front of him. You don’t find women like Hange in many places.
An assassin like him needs a wife who understands what they're getting themselves into because the Brotherhood is lifestyle permanently. His late wife married him without knowing what she was getting herself into. Their marriage was full of arguments and resentments. William doesn’t regret marrying her. They had two wonderful and strong boys. At one point after losing his son, Desmond from Juno; he went into a deep depression and blamed everything on the Creed.
Now his passion and dedication to the Creed had ignited to return back to his fellow assassin and became the Mentor of the Global Brotherhood. This gives him the connection to find and meet his long lost grandson he learnt about many years ago. Will made a promise to his older son’s grave that he will be there for Levi. He understands his grandson will need time to adjust to him being there in his life.
Will may not know much about the queen, but she does have the spirit to be a member of the Brotherhood Assassins. The Mentor does want to get to know his granddaughter in law. Hopefully he’ll get the chance to do that without Levi getting overprotective with her.
“That would be awesome, but maybe after the war if I make it out alive.” She frowns at the thought of the upcoming war with Marley. If the Goddesses bless her to win and make it out alive, she will gladly go with William to visit his home country.
“A war? With who?” This caught his attention. He feels a bit concerned since his grandson is a soldier. Will can’t lose another member of his family again.
Hange pause a bit to contemplate whether to tell him or not. “I don’t if I should tell you-” William interrupted her.
“Please, I need to know why there will be a war soon. Levi is a soldier and I just finally found him. I don’t want anything bad to happen to him. I don’t know how many soldiers your nation has in the army, but it looks small not to consider an army.” He still looks concerned. Hange senses some pain in his voice when he mentions not wanting to lose Levi to the war.
“It’s Marleyans. We’re going to war with them. They had been preparing to invade our island just to take the Founding Titan while wanting to eradicate us from this world. To the rest of the world, were devils because the Eldians are cursed being connected to the Path. Our ancestor, Ymir, was the first Eldian to become a Titan by making a deal with the Earth Devil whoever that son of bitch was. So there’s 9 main Titans that an Eldian can inherit. The Jaw Titan, Attack Titan, War Hammer Titan, Armored Titan, Beast Titan, Cart Titan, Female Titan, Colossus Titan, and Founding Titan. A Titan shift of the 9 Titans has 13 years left to be alive until they die. If there’s no successor to pass it on the power of one of the nine Titans, a newborn Eldian baby will inherit once they are born into this cruel world. So nations in this continent hate and fear us. In ancient times, The Eldian Empire did use the Titans to conquer lands until one of the noble clans turned they’re back on the Empire and sided that Marleyans to defeat us. The king, Karl Fritz moved some of the Eldians to this island and built the Three Walls. He erased our people’s memories from the outside world. Through generations, we thought we’re the last humans, but when my late commander Erwin led us to the basement of Dr. Jaeger’s home, we found out the truth. Under Queen Historia’s rule, we learnt who’s the real enemy.” She paused to watch how William was taking all of this information.
“I see. If I was just an average man with a simple life, I would call you crazy, but I've seen crazy things. Who has the nine titans right now? Is Levi part of the curse?” His curiosity reveals from his expression.
“Few of the titans are in the possession of the nation of Marley. I think the Armor Titan, Cart Titan, Jaw Titans and War Hammer Titan. No wait Eren inherited the War hammer after the attack of Liberio he caused. He got the Founding titan, Attack Titan and now the War Hammer Titan, but he betrayed us to join with his brother who is the Beast Titan. His brother has followers called The Jeagerists. They kidnapped Historia. Your grandson was ready to go on a rampage to slaughter them. After all he is an Ackerman. They are a bloodline of warriors to protect the royal family until King Karl orders them to kill every Ackerman member clan. Few survived that’s why Levi and a girl named Mikasa are the last Ackermans in the world. They have titan genes as their the descendants of the first Ackerman volunteer to be the by product bio engineer of a titan in a human form. They don’t have the 13 year cursed and they’re strong and dangerous when they are triggered. I like to call them the 10th Titan.” Hange chuckles.
William Miles sighs from absorbing that Levi is basically a Superhuman. Levi had not just the Ackerman warrior blood in him but also the assassin bloodline too. It’s like Life itself had made this happen probably soon the world will need Superhumans to protect the world from either Juno and her followers or something else that’s not from this planet. The universe is much bigger. Anything can come and try to attack this small planet.
“You know if this remind me of the holocaust and the Nazis.” Hange was confused but intriguing.
“What are the holocaust  and Nazis?” She asked.
Of course, he is aware how disconnected this side of the world is. They basically are repeating history. That’s something William will not let it happen. If he can get the UN involved to have this side of the world to make a peace treaty with the Paradis Isle. It will save countless lives. Also, the Eldians will be free from being annihilate from this world. The sad thing is it will take many years or centuries for the Eldians to be seen as human beings instead of monsters. For now stopping a war will start.
“The Holocaust was one of the dark periods in mankind history. Jewish people were once being persecuted too. In Germany during World War II, the German leader, Adolf Hitler was a cruel man but powerful. He had conquered the continent of Europe. He and his party known as the Nazis were supremacist. They first segregated the Jewish people by creating ghettos for them. They were treated as low class humans until Hitler introduced The Final Solution. By sending them to a contraction camp to get them to do labor work until death or sending them into a gas chamber to kill the mass of the Jewish people.” Will stopped and thought about how this part of history had impacted him personally.
His mother was a holocaust survivor. His father during that time was an Assassin master freeing the Jews from the camps. He fought the Nazis soldiers. Some were Templars, but even the Templars never agreed what Hitler and his Nazis did to the people who did not like them.
His parents met when his father was on a mission to assassinate one of the SS Nazi top officers in the camp where his mother was in doing labor working. His father encountered his mother who was returning to her bunker from another brutal labor work. She didn’t snitch on him but has a curious personality which intrigues his father. Since then, they secretly met up until his father was assigned to another mission. For a couple of years they didn’t see each other. William remembered what his father told him how anxious and paranoid he felt when he couldn’t convince the women to come with him to be free, but she declined his offer. She had her family here and she would have guilt if she had escaped while her parents and younger siblings were still there as prisoners.
When the Allies won and break free the victims of the camps, his father began to search for his mother who was in love. When he saw a skinny boned woman with hollow cheeks, but her dark eyes were recognizable. He was so relieved she was still alive. His mother was looking hopeless from losing her family from the gas chamber. She was lucky enough that her group didn’t enter. His father made a promise to protect her and love her until death. It took a couple of years for his mother to heal physically, but the mentally it affected her. Will was born three years after the war was over.
Hange was disgusted and horrified what those Nazis did with no remorse. Will this happen to the Eldians if nobody stops Marley or other nations from this side of the world? No, she wouldn’t allow that to happen.
“That sounds like hell.” She frowns.
“I despise bigotry. My mother was a survivor from the Holocaust. She rarely spoke of it. All it reminded her was pain and terror. She had lost her parents and siblings. This is one of the reasons I’m passionate about being an Assassin. We believe in free will and give the people a voice against oppression society.” He said with passion.
“By assassinating?” She glances at the older man.
“Yes, well we are not just some common assassins. We have codes that guide us for centuries. Think of it like Jedi’s from Star Wars.” William chuckles.
Hange is confused from not picking up his reference. “Jedi’s? Star Wars?”
“Oh my poor soul, I forgot you haven’t been exposed to watching movies.” He sips his drink. “Thank goodness I have my laptop with me. I’ll introduce you to the world of Star Wars.”
The commander may not know what he meant but she is excited to learn more mysterious things. “Oh yeah I can’t wait. Levi should join us! And I’m sure the queen would love to see this Star Wars thing.”
“That’s a wonderful idea. I hope he will join us. He seems a grumpy child that doesn’t like anything.” Hange burst into a laughter which most of the soldiers looked at her like she’s a crazy person.
“Oh you define Levi just right. Don’t worry, Historia is very good at persuading him to do almost anything.” She grins wickedly.
“Alright, I’ll hold you on to that.” He smiles then his expression changes to seriousness. “The Brotherhood will be under your command as we are allies. We will win this war. You have my word, Zoe.”
The Survey Commander looks at the Mentor and nods with gratitude. “Thank you, William. I really appreciate it.” She smiles.
Both Mentor and Commander resume eating their breakfast. At least Hange now has an ally for Paradis. She can sleep better knowing this is better than having nothing or trying to gain alliance outside of the island.
------------------------------------------------------
Levi and Historia are having a quiet and peaceful breakfast in Historia’s chamber. The table is covered with platters of cut fruits, pancakes, bacon, sausages, and eggs. A pitch of fresh squeezed orange juice is in the middle of the table, but both Ackerman-Reiss couples prefer sipping a cup of tea.
“Oh Levi, say ah for me.” the queen is facing her husband with a strip of bacon in her hand.
The soldier is occupied reading the Newspaper from any suspicion clues from the Jeagerists. “Hm?” he stops to give his attention to his wife.
“No, who knows where your hands had been?” He glances back reading the newspaper.
Historia rolls her eyes. “My hands are clean, Levi. I just washed them before eating right now.”
“Tch, earlier they weren’t clean especially when you were touching yourself in your sleep-” Levi smirks as Historia begins to blush embarrassingly.
“It’s the pregnancy hormones’ fault and the dream.” She hmphed at him then looked away to hide her flushed face.
Levi couldn’t help it but to give one of his rare smiles at her. “Oh I’m aware. What an interesting sight to wake up in the morning.”
Historia was about to smack his chest, but with his quick reflects, Levi caught it to bring her hand to his lips and kisses gently.
“I thought they were dirty for you.” Historia forgot her embarrassment when seeing Levi being gentle and kissing her hand. This made her heart melt from his action. She is a very lucky woman to have such a man like Levi Ackerman who looks cold and aloof on the outside, but with Historia his walls drop for her to see the real him. A gentle compassionate protector who will go great lengths to make sure she’s happy and smiles constantly.
To Levi, Historia made him feel alive once again. All he knew was tragedy, but this pure angel brought him back to life. She’s the sun and he’s the wither flower.
The captain gently pulled his wife to him so she could sit on his lap comfortably. Once Historia sat on his lap, her arms wrap around his neck to lean in to kiss him softly. She loves being under his embrace. Her nose is hit with his scent of cedarwood and black tea leaves.
The queen giggles when her husband begins to kiss her neck softly. Levi let out a chuckle. Now his hand is on his wife’s baby bump to rub gently. He still can’t believe he’ll be a father soon.
Historia watches her husband eyeing on her growing womb. “Our baby started to move. It felt like butterflies swirling in my womb.” She places her hand on Levi’s so both of them can embrace as soon to be new parents.
“The brat better not start kicking me when we go to bed.” He mumbles. “I won't be able to explain Four Eyes about why my back aches.” Historia chuckles from Levi’s comment.
“You’ll be fine and I doubt the baby will kick you that hard.” She kisses his jawline affectionately. The older man moans softly as he enjoys her affection.
“Speaking of our baby, I was thinking...with the war coming soon, I think you should go to the country where Will- I mean grandfather is from. For your own and the baby protection.” His grey eyes stare a bit nervously at his wife. He knows Historia will protest and become stubborn to stay here.
“Levi, we talked about this. I will not leave you. I can protect myself and our unborn baby. Please don’t sent me away. I can’t be separated away from you. What if you don’t come back and leave us from this world!” The blonde woman feels tears are threatening to fall from her eyes.
“Historia please don’t make this difficult. This will be hard for me too, but I need you to be safe away from the war. The Marleyans will do whatever it takes to win even assassinate you, the queen, and our child. I can’t promise anyone to be safe around me if I lose you both! I wasn’t joking about annihilating anyone in my way. Fuck, I will come back to you once the war is over and be reunited as a family. I’ve talked to both my grandfather and Hange before coming here to spend the night with you. They agree it’s for the best. Us, Eldians, need their queen. We need you to be alive. You’re the symbol of hope.”
Historia buried her face on his chest. She cries silently from the thought of being separated from her soulmate. She wants Levi to be there when she gives birth to their first born child.
“It just hurts so much that you’re right. I’m scared, my love. You’re my strength. You say I’m your sun but you’re my moon, Levi”  Her blue eyes widen from her speech.
“Baby, I will come back to you. With you and our kid being safe and sound; I know I can breathe a little to give my all into this war so I can be back with you under my arms. I just need you to cooperate with me.” He pleaded with his wife.
“Then as your queen, I command you to make sure you stay alive to come back to me.” Both their eyes are locked and Historia gives a commanding tone to him. Levi submitted willingly to kiss her hand. “As you wish, my queen.”
Historia cups her hands on to his face to press her lips onto his. “Protect your people, friends, and family. I will wait for you, my warrior.”
“I’m under your command, always my goddess.” He whispers.
Ever since the star-crossed lovers got together, a bond was created. It was strange but familiar. During the time their relationship was new, Historia invested her time to research. Now that Commander Hange knows about their relationship, she helps the queen to further the research of the Reiss and Ackerman bloodlines and the bonds that Ackermans were known for.
As time passes, their bond increases. Both are equals in many ways. Historia has been trying to find information on what Zeke had claimed this child she;s carrying will be the doom of the Eldians race. The queen had hired an intel to go to Marley and find this so-called prophecy. She did get a letter earlier when she woke up that this spy will come back home in a few days as he did find something on what she was looking for. It was best to read it in person. The queen of course will share with Hange since she knows how the Survey Commander will rejoice from learning new things.
The couple are still lost in their stares until a knock on the doors is heard. Both queen and captain break off their intense stare. They got off from each other. Historia was about to tell whoever it is to enter, but Levi gestured his head a no. “Not yet until you change something not too revealing.” His tone was showing possessiveness.
Historia looks down to see her night gown was too revealing especially for a queen that’s supposed to represent modesty and virtue. She looks at the door. “Who is it?” Her tone was authoritative.
Levi growls in annoyance that his wife is ignoring what he said. Plus, she better not dare to let whoever is on the other side of the door to enter or that poor soul will get their ass beaten. Shit, better not be that annoying Lord Ethan whatever the fuck his last name is.
“It’s Jean, Sasha, Connie, Mikasa and Armin, your majesty.” Jean said on the other side of the door. Well, at least it wasn’t that noble asshole.
“Give her a minute so Historia can dress up properly.” Levi cuts in before Historia says anything. The queen glares in annoyance to her husband. “You can be such a possessive jerk.” She said in a low tone while walking to her closet to find something that is modesty enough to have an audience in her chamber.
“You know I don’t like anyone staring at you like they see you nude already.” He leans to the ear to whisper huskily. His strong arms wrap around her like a treasure in his possession. Historia is used to his possessive side which she resumes browsing her outfits.
Levi removed her robe which fell on the floor. Her nightgown is transparent for him to see her nude body. “Levi, behave yourself.” Historia is trying to be composed and not cave into his seducing gesture.
“But I am on my best behavior, my queen.” He chuckles deeply. Levi enjoys how Historia reacts when he gets bold. “You look ravishing, especially you’re growing my seed inside you. Our offspring will be strong.” The young blonde realizes Levi is not Levi right now. His speech pattern and tone are indifferent.
She remembers one of the journals from the Reiss estate’s library mentioning one of the “side effects” of the experiment to make the Ackermans what they are now. The ancient journal said, when an Ackerman becomes awakened of their true potential; their beast or the titan that laid dormant in them until its activated. The queen did encounter Levi’s titan before, but she wasn’t aware why his personality had changed at first. Probably that’s one of the reasons why most Ackermans who were awakened, had intense headaches from fighting to be in control with their titan side subconsciously.
A Titan shifter like Eren, Zeke, Ymir, Annie, Reiner, and now Armin don’t have that because they are able to transform into a Titan. Also, what the journal mentioned, a titan shifter just needs a successor to live on. Whether the host gets eaten or a newborn baby is being born. Hange wasn’t joking about the Ackermans are the 10th Titan but their bloodline is what drives their existence. Her baby if he or she awakens their power, the titan within them will awake from their ‘sleep’. This titan is seriously insatiable.
“Levi, we guests are waiting on the other side of the door.” She can feel his hands traveling down to her thighs. Historia’s breathing becomes slow and heavy. Her body definitely wants more of his touch.
“They can wait more. I must have you again, my mate.” His nose buried on her neck to smell her sweet scent while feeling her up with his touch. Levi smirks from how wet Historia is from her cunt. His fingers insert further inside her. Her voice squeals while squirm a bit from his bold touch. He continues fingering her. “A-ah L-levi.” She moans.
“Call me, Iapetus.” His baritone voice rumbles. This made Historia weak on her knees. She wants him again, but unlike this thirsty beast; she can wait later.
“Alright then Iapetus, it’s nice to officially meet you. But like I told Levi, he can wait which means you can too, mister.” The queen grabbed his hand to pull out from her dripping wet core. “I mean it or both of you won’t get all of this.” She turns to face the possessed man. Levi’s or Iapetus’s eyes are not the usually grey-blue shade. His eyes are clear like glass and glowing. Under his eyes was dark and shadowed. Historia feels a bit intimidated by his appearance but she knows he won’t hurt her.
Iapetus growls at her in frustration. “You wouldn’t, my mate.” As she uses this sudden courage to stand her ground. “I will, so try me.” She smirks.
“Your body is begging for my touch, my queen. You have been insatiable earlier.” While Historia strips her nightgown off of her, Iapetus steps closer to press his body onto hers. Historia is now getting annoyed. Levi’s titan is so  persistent. If it wasn’t for her friends stopping by to see her, she would have happily gone for another round of the day. Her hand pressed onto his strong chest to surprisingly push him away from her. Both parties were shocked by this sudden strength, Historia had possessed.
“Just for you being a naughty titan, you’re not getting anything for a while and that includes Levi getting the punishment.” The queen grabs a random dress to put it on. Once she is ready and presentable, her neck turns a bit to see Levi/Iapetus still flabbergasted. “Tch, you’ll get needy soon, mate.” Now a grumpy possessed Levi mumbles like a misbehave child when they know, they’re getting punished.
“Baby, these two fingers will do the job, just remember that.” Historia smirks again but leans in to peck his cheek. “Be good and maybe I will let you off your punishment tomorrow.” She uses her usual soft, sweet voice. “Now get fix yourself my love, your squad is here.” Historia walks away from him to go to open the doors for her friends to enter.
The chamber where Historia spent most of her time, was big. Her bedroom is further deep. The lounge is where she rests to have peace from ruling the island. On the left wing there’s her study room. So, her friends can’t see the bedroom unless they walked deeper into the living room to open another double door.
Before opening the main doors to let her friends in, the queen fixes her hair into her signature low bun. Finally, she opens the door and Sasha was the first to give her a tight hug. “Historia! We missed you. So are you gonna finish your breakfast?” The brown haired soldier sniffed from the smell of bacon and sausage, eggs.
Jean interrupts and looks at Sasha. “We just had breakfast not that long ago.” Sasha pouts like a sad puppy. “B-but it’s bacon. You can’t say no to bacon.” her mouth drools from thinking about the crispy grease strip of bacon.
Historia giggles from Sasha daydreaming over a bacon. “Sure, you can have some. It’s too much for Levi and I to finish.”
“By the way, where's the captain.” Connie said as he roamed his eyes to find his superior officer.
“Oh he’ll join us in a bit once he’s ready.” The queen pops her head out of the main doors of her chamber to ask a staff to bring a fresh brew pot of tea with several cups. She closes the doors and leads her friends to the living room wing so they can comfortably sit down on the couches. Sasha already has a plate full of warm bacon, sausages, and eggs with pastries and fruits.
“What brings you guys here? Don’t get me wrong, I am happy you are all here to visit. I feel you’re here for a reason.” Historia said. Just when one of them was about to say something, the door from the bedroom wing opened abruptly. Levi Ackerman is dressed in his Survey Corps uniform while fixing his cravat on his neck. His expression is still grumpy. He glances at his wife then acknowledges his squad with a tch. “You’re late, brats.” His tone was in his usual monotone. Then the captain sits next to his wife a bit to close. He crossed his leg over the other and placed his arm over Historia’s shoulders comfortably. There’s no point in hiding their relationship anymore in front of his squad. They know both Historia Reiss and Levi Ackerman are husband and wife.
The gang were still not used to it of seeing these two being too comfortable around each other. “We’re sorry, Captain Levi. We took a detour to get here.” Armin bows nervously while his comrades bow too. The room became silent until a soft knock was heard. “Oh right, I order tea for everyone.” She smiles. “You may enter Stephanie.” She called the staff’s name. The doors open and a middle aged woman carries a tray of tea sets. The staff bows to her queen. “Here is the tea you asked, You’re Majesty.” The woman placed the tray on the elegant marble coffee table. The staff notice there’s guests in the queen’s personal living room. “Good morning our nation’s heroes. It’s an honor to be at your present especially you, Captain Levi, Humanity’s Strongest.” The woman bathes her eyelashes at the captain flirtatiously.
Levi leans to pour a cup of warm freshly brewed tea then leans back next to Historia as he sips his tea. He is aware the staff lady is flirting with him, but he doesn’t give her any attention. On the other hand, Historia was not pleased her staff was being too bold trying to get her man’s attention. She tries to be as composed and mannerly as a queen should. Her friends can feel the awkward situation in front of them. Thank you, Stephanie. You may leave now.” Her voice cracks a bit from hiding her jealousy.
Levi pretends being oblivious. He low key wants to smirk at his wife. She feels how he felt earlier. Even he was possessed a while ago by his titan named Iapetus. He is a real douchebag since Levi is also being punished from Iapetus being needy and disobedient. Tch, he needs to keep that beast locked in. He’ll get him into trouble in the future especially HIstoria now can manifest strength. It could be from either the bond or maybe from their baby.
Already the lady had left and he could hear his squad and his wife chattering. How long does he zone out? It doesn't matter. He listens to their conversation while sipping more tea.
“So, Captain and HIstoria, you said yesterday you guys will explain a bit how you two end up together. I don’t mean to sound disrespectful but the two of you are the last people I ever imagine being together. You are completely different people and your age gap is almost twenty or fifteen years difference. We’re happy for you, but it will take time for us to grasp.” Connie speaks out. Some of his comrades nod in agreement.
Historia understands what they mean. If someone had told her that she would be married to Captain Levi Ackerman of the Survey Corps and pregnant with his child, Historia would be in horror while laughing in disbelief. Probably, Ymir would say something snarky then becomes in a sour mood.
Ymir. She hopes her close friend is alright across the sea. As long Ymir is alive and safe, Historia can be at ease. Someday, She’ll see her and tell her how grateful to have Ymir in her life.
“We’re not much different as we thought.” Levi said as he placed the tea cup on the coffee table.
“Let's just say we have a similar parallel background upbringing as children.” Historia said then took a sip from her tea.
“So, what questions do all of you have been dying to ask?” The captain interrupted since he doesn’t want their childhood upbringing being asked. That’s too personal for him not ready to share with anyone beside Erwin, Hange, and now Historia.
“When did you two got married? You could’ve told us. Well, at least Mikasa and I. So we could have been your maid of honors. Aww, I bet you had looked beautiful in a wedding dress!” Sasha excitedly asks questions while still stuffing her mouth with food.
“Oi Braus, finish your food then talk. We barely can understand.” Levi scoffs at his subordinate.
Sasha swallows her food then apologies to the captain. “Sorry, sir.”
“Don’t worry Sasha, I understood you.” Historia smiles.
“It wasn't a planned wedding. Two days ago, we tied the knot and Armin and Commander Hange was with us to be our witnesses.” Historia added.
Her friends stared at Armin who nervously chuckled. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t tell you guys since it was supposed to be a secret until they are ready to expose their relationship status.” He explains to the squad.
“Don’t give Arlert a hard time, brats. I ordered him not to say anything or he’ll face punishment for disobeying his superior officer.” Levi glares at his comrades who were ready to hound the poor blonde guy with questions.
Mikasa has been quiet the whole time until she finally said something. “I know you don’t need anyone’s approval, but I’m glad that you both are happily together. Captain, I suggest don’t hurt my best friend or I will come after you.” She glares at her captain. When the younger Ackerman met Historia or back then Krista, they were bedmates. Sometimes they along Sasha, Annie, and Ymir, have nightly girl talks about the boys in their cadet years to combat fighting positions.
Historia smiles in gratitude. “Thank you, Mikasa. This means lots from you.” She’s happy that her friends are aware of her marriage with Levi. The queen quickly glanced at her husband. He was glaring at Mikasa from her threat just a second ago. The blonde haired woman wonders why both Ackermans had bad blood with each other.
She will need to ask them both alone when opportunity comes. This needs to stop. Levi and Mikasa are family, probably distant cousins or something. It’s understandable there’s some family who are needed to cut ties with, but with communication Mikasa and Levi will amend their dislikes to each other.
“Also, we want to tell you that I’m pregnant. Almost three months along.” Historia said as her hand holds onto Levi’s.
“Congratulations! Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?” Connie then Sasha said.
“It’s too soon to tell.” Levi peeks at the baby bump that’s under Historia’s loose white gown that usually she wears in public.
“Yes, we’ll probably have to wait until I reach five months.” Historia pat her stomach.
For a couple hours everyone continues talking and sipping tea. Levi told his squad it’s time to go since Historia was getting sleepy. The pregnancy made her feel exhausted. At first, she tried to fight off but the fatigue won. Once her friends had left, the queen already plowed on the bed to cuddle her pillow. Her husband joins her to spoon her. Both lovers embrace each other.
Levi admires the way his wife looks when she cuddles with him. “You were joking right about my punishment?”
Historia groans annoyed, then grabs a pillow to hit his head. “No, I meant it, mister. Now let your cute wife sleep.” She huffs then turns her back to him to try to sleep.
“Oi woman, you have been moody today.” He grabbed the pillow to toss it aside. “I notice you tried not to snap at the lady earlier. You’re cute when you get jealous.” He chuckles.
“Pfft don’t remind me. I don’t like how she admires you too much.” She turns a bit to look at Levi.
“It just makes me think, why do you fall in love with a girl like me?” Her blue eyes glimpse insecurely at him.
“Stop this. I hate how you thought low of yourself. You are the woman of my dreams. Our child will be beautiful and courageously strong like his or her mother.” His lips brush on her temple spots to leave kisses.
“You’re one of a kind, Historia. I should be the lucky one. Not in a million years, I would have imagined myself having a wife and soon to be a father.” He leans to her baby bump to kiss softly.
“Who would have thought a former thug from the Underground City turned into a captain of the Survey Corps is a husband to a sexy but also pure queen.” Levi continues kissing her belly. He can feel her hand stroking his raven hair.
“And who would have thought a royal bastard girl from the countryside that joined the Survey Corps that became queen is a wife to a handsome but also strong and soft captain.” She glances at Levi with a soft smile.
“See we go so well together, my queen. We’re meant to be.” His baritone softened.
“For eternity, my king?” She whispers enough for him to hear.
“For eternity.” He promised to her.

Warnings: Fluff
You and Ethan have been friends for the past two years, now you have become insanely close in your time not only on NXT but up on the main roster on Raw. You started to develop feelings for Ethan, but you had to down play them every time you were around him; because he looked at you like a friend, or so you thought...
Ethan started to develop feelings for you too, but he didn’t want you to know it; In fear it would destroy your relationship. You two may not have been able to see your mutual feeling for each other, but the lockerroom did. Everyone actually started betting, that you two would end up together before the end of the year.
—Your POV—
Tumblr media
You were backstage, gearing up to start Raw off against Sasha Banks of Tesm BAD, you were a part of Team Bella, as part of the ongoing Women’s Evolution in WWE. Nikki and Brie were helping you stretch, when Ethan came up and kissed you on the forehead “Good luck out there, Y/N.” Nikki and Brie were giggling like little school girls as he walked away, you jokingly slapped them “You know just as much as me, he doesn’t like me like that.” You finished getting ready for your match.
—Ethan’s POV—
Tumblr media
Drake Maverick and Braun Strowman looked at you “Just ask her out bro, what’s the worst that could happen?” You snickered, “Geeeeeez guys, I don’t know guys. She says “No.” and never talks to me again. And let me tell you, that can’t happen because, she’s the only thing that truly makes my heart smile.” Drake looked at you “I heard that bets are going around that you two get together.” You looked at him, surprised “Really?” Brain and Drake both nodded, saying at the same time “We’ve actually placed our bets in, because everyone sees how you two are around each other.”
—LATER THAT NIGHT—
Ethan won his match against Dean, and you had won your match against Sasha. Now you and Ethan we’re sitting side by side with the rest of the lockerroom, watching the main event between The Revival against Chad Gable and Bobby Roode for the Tag Team Championships. Half way through the match, Ethan looked at you saying “Apparently all our friends have a bet going that we end up together.” You were surprised “You’ve heard about that too?” Ethan nodded, he looked at you “Y/N, just know you can say “No.”, but I need to tell you how I feel. Y/N every since NXT, I’ve always had a small crush on you, then it grew into an even bigger one, the more I got to know you.” You smiled “I love you too Ethan.” Ethan smiled “So with that being said, Y/N will you be my girlfriend?” You smiled “Yes Ethan, a thousand times Yes!” The crowd that was behind you, was cheering saying “I knew it.” “It’s about damn time.” You two kissed, before holding hands and watching the remainder of Raw.

Drew X Chubby! Reader - Beautiful to Me Pt. 1
SUMMARY; He asks out Stephanie’s chubby assistant. While out, he can tell she feels insecure. So, when they get back to the hotel, he shows her how beautiful she is.
WARNINGS; Fluff and Smut. ALSO; This is about a chubby reader so expect there to be quite a lot of angst and self hatred.
REQUESTED BY; Anon
WORD COUNT; 1,754
Part 2 - 3- 4
Y/N headed out of Stephanie and Triple H’s make shift office, making her way to catering. As she passed several superstars she kept her head down, avoiding eye contact. Y/N was rather shy; unless you were Stephanie, triple H, or Aleister simply because he was shy like her. Even then, she didn’t speak much.
Lost in thought, she didn’t notice the person in front of her until she was bouncing off their chest; long, thick arms reaching out to catch and steady her. She looked up startled, eyes scanning the broad tan chest in front of her before connecting with piercing blue eyes. Her breath caught as Drew McIntyre smiled down at her, that dimple of his on full display.
“Are you alright lass?” He rubbed his hands up her arms slightly as he looked down at her.
She blushed and nodded, keeping her eyes on his chest. “Y-yes Drew, thank you.”
He just smiled and dropped his hands. “Where ye goin in such a hurry?”
“Catering to get a banana before the matches start. I told Aleister I’d watch with him.” She rocked back and forth on her heals, crossing her arms to appear smaller, nervous.
“I’ll walk with you then.” He smiled, gesturing for her to lead the way.
Y/N blushed as she nodded, walking in front of him.
“You know I’ve been meaning to talk to you for a while. Yet every time I see you, you seem to run away.”
Her eyes widened slightly as she shook her head. “I-I don’t run away. Just busy. Ya know? Being an assistant and everything.”
“Aye, that’s why I wanted to talk to you. I know we have a two-day break and was wanting to take you to dinner. Would that be all right?”
Y/N stopped in her tracks and looked up at him, eyebrow raised. Was this a joke? No way the Scottish Psychopath wanted to take a fatty like her out. He had to be joking.
“Seriously? No.” She scoffed and rolled her eyes, trying to hide her hurt as he turned to look at her, shock painting his normally placid face.
“No?” He repeated. “Well why not? Have I misinterpreted the longing glances you give me?”
Y/N frowned, she hadn’t realized he was that aware of the way she reacted around him.
“No, that’s not it. I’m me and you’re you.” She shrugged. “I’m sure you’d rather ask someone like Becky or Charlotte out anyways.”
Before he could respond she turned and headed into catering. Drew stared after her, eyebrow still raised. Had he misinterpreted the looks? Did he offend her? He really wasn’t sure. However, he knew someone who would be. A sly smirk slide back over his face as he went to find Aleister; who was, no doubt, hiding in a dark corner somewhere.
Back in catering, Y/N took a deep breath as she grabbed a banana, slowly peeling it before she took a bite. It didn’t take long for her anxiety to set in. Had she upset Drew with her blatant refusal? She really hadn’t meant to. She just couldn’t see the point in going out with him; even if she would love nothing more. After all, he really could have his pick of the women and she really was a nobody. Still...maybe she should apologize?
She sighed and hung her head as she trashed her banana peel and headed back out of catering. Now all she had to do was track down the 6’5” superstar. It couldn’t be that hard. Yet, it proved otherwise. She had circled backstage twice, missing the first two matches as she did, and couldn’t find him. At this point she was sure he was off getting ready for his match and she had missed her chance.
Drew stood at gorilla, a smile on his face as he waited for music. He had found and successfully talked to Aleister, although he had been reluctant to talk about his friend. However, he learnt all he needed too and had a plan going out as the music started.
Bobby, Baron, and he started down the apron together, ready to face off against Braun and Roman. It should be a fairly easy match and Drew was more than ready. Yet, something didn’t feel right. He tried not to dwell on it though as he slid into the ring; Bobby and Baron right behind him.
Y/N watched from backstage as Baron droned on and on about why the trio was better than Braun and Roman could ever be. She couldn’t help but role her eyes, honestly slightly tired of the same old storyline. The three of them were amazing wrestlers, but she felt like they’d be better solo. She bit her nails as the match started, barely noticing as Aleister walked up beside her.
“You know, lover boy came asking about you.” He sipped at the cup in his hands, smirking against the rim.
Y/N turned to look at him, eyes wide.
“What?!”
Aleister just chuckled and nodded. “Something about him asking you out and you running off.”
She groaned and slapped her hand to her forehead.
“That explains why I couldn’t find him to apologize.”
“He didn’t seem to upset about it Y/nickname,” he shrugged as he watched the monitor. “Was just worried he upset you.”
Y/N pursed her lips as she looked at him, a million thoughts swimming around in her head. Maybe Drew wasn’t mad at her after all. Maybe she could still save any hopes for a friendship. Well, if he wants to be friends. Oh. What if he doesn’t want anything to do with her now?
“Oh fuck!” Aleister!s raised voice brought her out of her thinking and drew her eyes back to the monitor.
Her eyes widened as she gasped, hands flying to her mouth. “Oh, my god.”
The scene on the screen was chaos. What had started as a three on two handicap match had turned into a four on one; with Drew being the one. She watched in horror ad Baron bounced him off the ropes, right into a waiting Superman Punch from Roman. Drew went down with a thud as the whole arena went quiet. Baron and Bobby laughed as they slid out of the ring, starting back up the apron as Braun and Roman stood over the Scotsman. From there, the easily got the pin before they too, left him alone in the ring.
Y/N didn’t even fully understand what was happening until she was running past Roman down the apron, sliding into the ring before the medics even made it. She crawled to Drew’s side. He groaned, holding his side as he looked up at her.
“Aye. I knew ye couldn’t resist me love.”
She rolled her eyes as the medics slid in.
“Oh shush, I’d be concerned for anyone who took a beating like that.”
The medics quickly pushed her out of the way, checking him over for injuries; once again the moment was squandered. She’d have to find him before they left for the evening, or maybe at the hotel.
Drew watched as she walked away, huffing in frustration and anger. He had had a plan to ask her out again after they won, but that was before his so-called friends turned against him.
He pushed the medics away as he sat up, glaring at them.
“I’m fine, nothing I haven’t taken before.”
He got up and headed up the apron, medics following him as he plotted his revenge. It wouldn’t happen tonight. Oh no, tonight he had something more important to do.
Two hours later Y/N was huffing as she headed for the door to leave Stephanie’s office. She had finally finished for the night and couldn’t wait to go to the hotel and curl into bed; but Drew had other plans. He stood blocking the way, changed into a pair of basketball shorts and a plain t-shirt with his hands folded over his chest.
“Seems you’re walking into me here lately love.” He smiled playfully. “I’m here to ask you on that date again.”
Y/N raised an eyebrow as she looked up at him. “You mean, after how rude I was earlier, you still want to take me out?”
He nodded, his signature smirk making its way onto his face.
“Aye, I’d very much like to take you out, wine and dine ya.” He licked his lips, eyes bearing into hers. “See where the night takes up Y/N. I’d love to take you out.”
Her mouth went dry at the burning intensity in his eyes. He was serious; and not taking no for an answer.
At first, she thought of a thousand horrible excuses on why she couldn’t, or shouldn’t. But the longer she looked at him the more she realized she really wanted too. Better than that, if this man really wanted to take someone like her out, she deserved it. So, she nodded, smiled and blushing slightly.
“Alright Drew, Ilike go.”
A megawatt smile lit up his face as he pulled her into a hug, her head resting level with his pecks as she gasped slightly, wrapping her arms around him. She had frozen for a second, knowing that was quite a lot of weight for him to pull into him, let alone a lot of fat to wrap her arms around, but he didn’t seem to really mind.
“Iknow it’s late and ye must be tired. We can go tomorrow?
She nodded again, mouth dry as the sent from his body soap intoxicated her.
“Uhuh.”
He chuckled, chest rumbling against her.
“I can pick ye up at six? I know yer staying at the same hotel, since everyone is there.” He pulled back and slid his phone from his pocket. “If you’ll add you’re number I’ll text you for yer room number.”
She licked her lips and stepped back, taking his phone with shaking hands. “I-I’ll text myself off yours if that’s okay? So, I’ll have your number.”
Drew nodded happily as she handed the phone back to him. “I’d offer you a ride but I know Aleister is waitin’ for ye.” He smiled and leaned forward, kissing her cheek before turning and starting down the hall. “I’ll see you tomorrow Y/N, don’t even think about chickening out.”
She held her breathe, waiting until he was out of sight before she squealed, jumping in place. She spun quickly to grab her purse before rushing off to find Aleister. After all, she had so much to tell him.
Yello lovelies! So, this request got away from me SO MUCH it’s now 2 parts. I really didn’t expect for it to go this way, but I just got so into it. Enjoy this part 1! Part 2 should be up in about 24 hours. Also, I had to edit this on my phone as severe weather/tornados have got cell signal and such acting up. So sorry for any errors

Traveler’s Dilemma
Words: 1,960
Genres: science fiction, time travel, dark comedy
Content Warning: murder, blood, hitler
Synopsis: Thomas travels back in time on a very important secret mission, killing Adolf Hitler before he grows up to be a genocidal dictator. But something unusual happens just as he’s about to complete it.
"T-minus 2 minutes." the automatic voice read aloud. The entire room was dark except for the various instruments which blinked and blared around them.
Thomas strapped the cuffs of the special suit into his wrists, his gloves tightening and repressurizing. Lindsey stepped behind him and hooked the rest of the suit up his back. He turned around to look at her. Behind her he saw the countdown clock.
"You know they'll kill you when you come back." she said, her blue eyes seeming purple in the red light of the room.
"Hopefully when I come back, it'll be a better world." his voice was gruff and sexy, his face unshaven. He leaned and put his gloved hand on her cheek. "A world without us in it."
"We talked about it, Lin. We're doing this for the world."
Lindsey nodded and her eyes went serious. "For the world."
"T-minus 1 minute." the voice read.
"Time for you to go." Lindsey said and handed Thomas his helmet. He put it on his head and clicked it into place. He turned around and started walking into the chamber, but not before looking back at Lindsey from up close one last time.
He entered the chamber and looked up at his wife. She was fiddling with the controls, making sure everything was in order. "T-minus 30 seconds."
He looked down at his wrist, where his personal control panel was located.
"Passau, Germany, 24-08-1893" it read.
Lindsey gave him the thumbs up, and he returned with a gloved thumbs up of his own.
"T-minus 10 seconds... 9... 8... 7..."
Thomas closed his eyes. He knew that after his mission is complete, he'll be in a new world. A better world.
"6... 5... 4..."
"I love you." he whispered to Lindsey, though he knew she couldn't hear him. "3... 2... 1." Lightning zapped around him, the flashes filling the room with light. Lindsey narrowed her eyes, and for a fraction of a second, she saw her husband disappearing into dust. The room then grew dark again, and nothing in the central chamber remained.
A flash of light signalled Thomas' arrival in his destination. Like his origin point, it was the middle of the night, but he knew he was half a world and more than a century away from the Temporal Studies lab of the CIA.
The architecture was very familiar for houses in this period, but it looked so new and shiny. Thomas wasn't used to seeing such style in such good conditions.
He got his head straight and focused on his mission. We went up the stairs and into the bedroom of the youngest child in the house.
"Adolphus." it read on the door.
He went inside, stepping in as quietly as he could in the clunky suit. As expected, in the sole bed in the corner of the room slept a four-year-old boy with black hair, fast asleep.
He pressed on a container on the side of his shin, which opened automatically and pulled out an electric syringe. Synthetic blood poison. Would temporarily neutralize all red blood cells and deprive the brain of oxygen. Dead within 1 minute, gone within 14 hours. Undetectable to the medicinal technology of this era. They'd think the boy died from sudden system failure. It wasn't uncommon. All of his older siblings died young as well.
"Goodbye, Hitler." Thomas' hand was shaking as he was about to stab the needle into the sleeping boy's neck. He clenched his fist. He couldn't hesitate. He had to remember what this boy would grow up to be. What he'll grow up to do.
He raised his arm up high, and just as he was about to lower it, a familiar flash of lightning filled the room.
A bit of smoke was wofting through the air before going out the window, and in the smoke stood a man wearing a large top hat with goggles on top of it, and a three piece suit with large lappels.
"Oh, hello." the man spoke quite loudly.
"Sshh!" Thomas shut him up with a gloved finger on the man's lips. Young Hitler shifted in his bed, but stayed asleep. "Who are you?"
"I'm Menckill. I came here to kill the boy." Menckill bowed in front of Thomas, his left hand gesturing forward. He was holding a jagged knife.
"You can't kill him with that!" Thomas whispered-yelled at him before snatching up the knife. "That's barbaric."
"Well obviously, it's child murder." Menckill explained. "Is that not considered taboo where you're from?"
"No, I mean. Yes... I mean, not this child, I was here to kill him too. But not like this! This is brutal and unnecessary. What do you think the parents will think when they find him bleeding out in the morning?"
"Well, how were you going to kill him?"
"Humanely, with a single injection to the bloodstream that will kill his brain within 60 seconds."
"You think a lifeless body without blood stains will be any more acceptable for the parents?"
"I mean, yeah. At least they could bury him with dignity. They didn't do anything wrong. Besides, he's not gonna suffer." Thomas explained. "And neither will the millions he killed."
"Millions he killed? What are you talking about?" Menckill asked, he held his knife in a peculiar way, and Thomas was startled to find it's no longer in his hand.
"I am from the future. This kid will grow up to start a major war and end the lives of dozens of millions."
"Wow, weird. I'm also from the future, and where I come from he's just an overrated artist."
Thomas paused for a second, his head was spinning. After a couple of long moments he got back to his sense. "You were gonna kill a kid for growing up to be an artist?!"
"I mean, his art is really bad. And he's so beloved. It's like, awful. I blame the Post-Wiemerists and their shitty communist art."
"Where you're from Hitler is a communist?"
"Well he took his husband's name and became Adolphus Braun, but yes."
"Where you're from Hitler is a gay communist???" Thomas had to take a step back.
"What, is it not common where you're from? Still taboo?" Menckill leaned and jabbed Thomas side with the hilt of his knife.
Thomas was hyperventilating, his mask was getting fogged up.
"Listen, you seem a bit tensed up. Is this your first time journeying? Your first changing of history?" Menckill tapped the sides of Thomas' suit, accidentally opening a few compartments.
"I mean, yes." Thomas took off his helmet, revealing his pale sweaty face.
"Oh, you're a ginger." Menckill commented. "Your kind was wiped out where I'm from."
"First of all, don't call me that. Second of all... What?!"
"Sshh..."
"Don't shoosh me!" Thomas almost screamed. The young boy in the bed was turning in his sleep.
"Okay... okay..." Thomas was using the drapes to wipe the sweat off his face.
"Tell me exactly who you are, where and when you're from, and how you got here."
"Well well well, somebody is intrigued."
"You're damn right I am."
"Okay then, my name is Menckill Dilafrigos. I am from New Rodham in the far-off year of 1999. I came here like this..." Menckill snapped his fingers, a small flash of lightning burst from his hand, and a fraction of a second later he was holding an apple. "Why, where you're from?"
Thomas stared at the apple for a couple of seconds before answering. "I'm from New York City, in 2064. And this is absolutely insane... you're from like... a different timeline. A different course of history. Does that mean I succeeded?"
"Well, clearly not, since the kid is still alive in my 'timeline', whatever that is." Menckill seemed relax, he was scratching his butt.
"Maybe it's a sort of grandfather paradox. Like, killing my own grandfather breaks the universe and makes a new one, and you're like, from that one?" Thomas looked puzzled at the other time traveler, though he wasn't really expecting an answer.
"I doubt this kid is your grandpa, man."
"Fucking hell, I meant metaphorically, like.... if I kill Hitler, he doesn't kill millions when he's a grown up, and I have no reason to come back and kill Hitler."
"So then I come in and kill him instead. Makes sense to me."
"No! Because he still grows up in your timeline to become a shitty artist. Which means if he died at age 4 you wouldn't have a reason to go back either."
"Listen, bud, you're overcomplicating this whole thing. What I do is this: I see something I don't like, I go back, I change it. I come back home, it's gone. I have sex with my wives." Menckill gestured with his hands like it was all a simple matter to him.
"And your world isn't changed? Your friends are still there? Wait, how many people did you kill just because you didn't like them?"
"A few here and there." Menckill tossed his knife about.
"Maybe you have like... special paradox preserving powers. Maybe you isolate things in your timeline and deliver them to someplace else. Maybe you're the key! The source of time travel in my universe. Maybe all universes!" Thomas put both hands on his head, his mind spinning.
"Maybe... All I know is, you wanna kill the kid, I wanna kill the kid. So let's just do it!"
"But you, you want to kill him for bad reasons. I'm trying to save the world!"
"Fine, whatever, let's just do it together. We'll do it your way. As long as neither his paintings nor his mass murders happen, right?"
"I guess..." Thomas' hand was trembling again, he gripped the needle tightly. Menckill held his hand to stabilize it.
"3... 2... 1..." Thomas whispered and raised his arm once again.
Before he could thrust down, he was interrupted once again, this time by a woman bursting through the door.
"What?" he turned around to see a flint pistol flash in the darkness. A second later, Meckill was fallen over on the bed, his blood spilled all over it.
The young boy woke up and screamed.
"Wait! Wait! I can go, I'll leave, don't shoot!" Thomas started fiddling with his wrist control panel, setting it to travel back to 2064.
He didn't make it before a second shot fired and his lifeless body was sprawled on the floor.
"Mother?" young Adolphus asked in German, his voice shaking. "Were the bad men here to hurt me again?"
"Yes, dearie." Klara Hitler answered him with a sweet motherly voice as she blew the smoke off the barrel of the gun. "But don't worry, mommy took care of it."
She leaned in and wiped the blood off of his face with a handkerchief. "Now why don't you go get clean and then come sleep in the big bed with me and papa. The maid will clean your room in the morning."
"Okay, mama." the boy got up and went to the washing room.
Meanwhile, Klara picked up the two bodies, wrapped them around in the drapes, and dragged them down to the basement.
"Mother, are you coming?" she heard Adolphus calling up to her from upstairs.
"Just a minute!" she shouted back to him. She dumped the blood drapes in the basement. They slouched next to the pile of bodies from all of the other strange men, women, and machines who came barging into her son's bedroom ever since he was born and even before then.
"We never had two of them at the same night." she said to nobody in particular. "We'll have to move again if this continues."
"Oh well." she closed the basement's door, leaving the two fresh corpses in the dark.
